Dear Amy: My husband and I recently welcomed our first child. On my side of the extended family, our baby son ("Samuel") is the fifth grandchild, but on my husband's side, he is the first. I am trying to be sensitive to the excitement and extra attention a first grandchild receives. - Advertisement - My mother-in-law, "Joan," has been to our house for a visit of a week's duration each month since Sam's birth. Each time she visits, I am more hesitant to welcome her back. Joan is blatantly disregarding the parenting strategy my husband and I have adopted in favor of her own techniques. She does this against our specific instructions and without discussion. My husband has stepped up and politely addressed our concerns multiple times with Joan. She either apologizes (without any change in her behavior) or tells him that she prefers to do things her way. I am ready to toss manners, along with any future invitations to visit, out the window, but I do not want to start a family drama centered around our child. How should I approach the situation? — First-time Mom Dear Mom: Don't wait until you lose your cool. Talk to your husband and develop a plan for communicating with his mother - together. This presents an opportunity for you two to offer a united front regarding behavior that seems to bother both of you. Boundaries must be drawn. After you draw your boundaries, you should patrol them — respectfully, but firmly and consistently. Essentially, you will be training your mother-in-law on how to treat your family. If you demonstrate some leadership now, you will have the opportunity to establish a healthier and more respectful relationship moving forward. If you don't like the pressure of handling an extra person in your household for a week every month, you should take steps to reduce either the frequency of these visits, or their duration. Also, for perspective, ask yourselves: Five years from now, which aspects of these visits will you regret the most? Try to take the longest view -- are there childrearing matters where you can be more flexible? Are you so bothered by her overwhelming presence that you are missing opportunities to learn from her? Then, you and your husband should outline the basics: "Mom, we don't expect you to do things exactly the way we do, but you must respect our choices for how we're raising 'Sam.' This is important to us." And then every single time she deliberately subverts you, you'll have to remind her and tell her, honestly, how her behavior makes you feel (disrespected and frustrated). Express your honest hope that you can work things out, because you genuinely want to support her having an active and positive relationship with her wonderful grandson. Dear Amy: My ex-husband remarried after we broke up. Even though he has a wife and a baby, he still calls me every day. We continue to see one another and have rekindled our sexual and emotional relationship. I'm confused. I'd like your ideas on how I can pursue him, even though he's not necessarily available. — Back in Love Dear Back: You don't have to pursue your ex-husband, because - according to you - you two are already involved, physically and emotionally. If you are asking me for ideas of how you can break up his marriage, it would be unethical for me to offer them, and unethical for you to try. I suspect that your ex-husband might not be as involved and committed to you as you may think. Engaging with you in this way may simply be his way of fleeing from his current responsibilities. Dear Amy: You ran a question from "Desperate Daughter," who was struggling with her father's drunken rantings and ravings on Facebook. I know these posts were offensive, but I agreed with your assessment - that the biggest issue was her dad's alcohol use. I want to share my own family's story. I have a family member who used social media in a similar way - posting offensive and incendiary rantings and ramblings on Facebook. The unintended consequence of his behavior was that people in his social media circle saw the tenor of his posts, and several reached out to him privately, urging him to take a closer look at his drinking. Confronted with the truth, he decided to admit his alcoholism. He got help and is currently sober. — Grateful for Ranting Dear Grateful: Surely, this was the best imaginable outcome flowing from your dad's upsetting behavior. I'm happy for you all. After closing down a portion of Minnesota Highway 61 north of Silver Bay on Saturday due to multiple wildfires, wildland fire crews from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources continued to patrol for wildfires on Sunday. Residents and motorists traveling along Highway 61 can expect to continue to see crews dousing lingering fire hotspots, according to a news release from the DNR. It's not expected that planes will be called back in to the fires, however helicopters may be brought in to help crews calm down hot spots. On Saturday, multiple fires burned an estimated 45 acres. Several aircraft were called in to cool and slow down the wildfires. Six local fire departments worked on the ground to suppress the wildfires. The cause of the fires remains under investigation. According to Leanne Langeberg, public information officer for the Minnesota Interagency Fire Center, the fire activity is not surprising. “Every spring, we see a rise in wildfire activity as the snowpack melts and leaves behind dry vegetation like grasses, leaves, and needles,” Langeberg said. “We left last fall in abnormally dry conditions in northeast Minnesota. Snow totals were less than normal, and lack of measurable precipitation has left us in a persistent dry pattern.” The DNR also urged caution as fire conditions remain high. Dragging chains from vehicles, tossing cigarette butts out of windows and parking along roadsides on dry vegetation can create a spark that can become a wildfire. This story was updated at 5:46 p.m. April 4 to better indicate the location of Saturday's closure. It was originally published at 12:44 p.m. April 4.

Google has announced an update to its Developer Program Policy that will help to prevent applications from viewing which other apps are installed on an Android device. The company states that they consider installed apps to be private user information and therefore, aim to protect Android users by keeping this data secure. That is to say, Google will limit which apps can request the QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES permission, presently mandatory for application targeting API level 30 (Android 11) and above that wish to query the list of application a user has installed for an Android 11 or later device. From now on, the QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES permission will only be available when the core functionality of an app in question must query any of the device's installed applications. Therefore, in order to dispute this new policy, developers will have to provide reasonable evidence for how querying the API of an Android devices installed applications is absolutely necessary in order for that device to properly function. Google describes the QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES permission as allowing any apps that require access to the installed apps list in order to remain aware an interoperable during use. Such a requirement would be relevant for antivirus apps, browsers, device search and file managers. If an app doesn't meet the aforementioned eligibility points, the Play Policy dictates that the developer must remove the application. In fact, even when an app does meat the packages requirement, the developer must still sign a declaration form in the Play Console. Failing to sign this form could result in the app being removed from the Google Play Store. This update will go into effect on May 5 of 2021, and as of November of 2021, all apps submitted to the Google Play Store must target Android 11 or higher. The policy ultimately seeks to safeguard users against any malicious advertising or other such activity that may happen when an external entity can view apps installed on a device. In fact, a similar and longer-standing developer policy had a similar goal with enabling the user to opt out of applications such as Facebook interacting with apps installed on their mobile device. All of that said, for its part, Google has already required for some time that the developers of apps requiring a device's SMS or Call Log permissions sign a declaration form before publication on Google Play. Now, this next step promises to enhance user privacy even further.

Intel has released the first official graphics driver for its Rocket Lake CPUs featuring the Iris Xe integrated GPUs. At launch, the Rocket Lake lineup was the first desktop family to feature the brand new Iris Xe (Xe-LP) graphics architecture but it took Intel a few days before official driver support landed for them. Intel Iris Xe GPUs on Rocket Lake Desktop CPUs Get First Official Graphics Driver Support Well, Intel has finally released the graphics drivers for its Iris Xe GPUs featured on the Rocket Lake CPUs. The 27.20.100.9316 is 426 MB in size but the more interesting part is that the date it is listed for is 3rd March 2021. This suggests that while the support for Intel Rocket Lake Desktop CPUs is new, the driver itself isn't technically different than the ones already available for Iris Xe GPUs. Intel simply added support for Rocket Lake CPUs on its existing driver suite and called it a day & it does make sense considering all Iris Xe chips are essentially based on the same Xe-LP GPU architecture. Following are the release notes for the Intel graphics driver itself: HIGHLIGHTS Fix for crash seen when launching Outriders* on Intel Iris Xe Max graphics. Fantastic PlayStation 3 fighting game Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown could be returning to the ring, if a recently registered rating in Korea is anything to go by. The brawler was originally released for Sony's last-last-gen system all the way back in 2012, and that was pretty much the last we saw of SEGA's long running series on consoles. However, as part of its Tokyo Game Show 2020 livestream, SEGA teased something to do with Virtua Fighter, although the whole thing was very light on tangible details. It's assumed that this new rating probably has something to do with announcement. Said rating, by the way, is specifically for 'Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown' — which perhaps suggests that this is some kind of remaster. We certainly wouldn't say no. It's also worth noting that Virtua Fighter 5 is already up and running on PS4, kind of. The game's arcade and versus modes are playable from within Yakuza 6: The Song of Life. Make of that what you will. Would you welcome a remastered Virtua Fighter 5? Land a KO in the comments section below.

If a cat or dog shares your domicile, I'll venture a guess that you don't refer to the four-footed family member who licks your face, naps in your lap, sleeps on your bed and inhales the redolence of your dirty socks — as if they were saturated with rose petals — as "it." You probably call them by a name; and refer to them as "he" or "she" and various nicknames inspired by their personality and habits, and for that matter, yours. A group of more than 80 people with an interest in animal welfare, including Dr. Jane Goodall, have signed a letter calling on the editors of the Associated Press Stylebook to change their guidance so that animals in news stories would be identified as "she/her/hers and he/him/his when their sex is known, regardless of species, and the gender-neutral they, or he/she, or his/hers when their sex is unknown." News organizations, including NPR, often follow the guidance of the AP Stylebook. The signatories of this letter hope that when we write about animals in zoos, shelters, fields, farms, forests, seas, slaughterhouses and labs that they are recognized as living beings who feel: hunger, fear, happiness and pain. It would mean writing sentences like, "The rat was injected with the virus ..." or, "The deer was struck by the car ..." and he, she or they died — not it. The proposed change might seem difficult to imagine right now. But consider how the care we take with personal pronouns for humans has changed over the past several years. Ben Dreyer, copy chief at Random House and author of the bestselling Dreyer's English: An Utterly Correct Guide to Clarity and Style, says these changes remind us that thoughtful adjustments to our language don't have to wait for a stylebook. "Writers should write the way they see fit to write," he told us, "and the changes they wish to effect either will or won't be embraced broadly. The so-called genderless 'he' for instance is now overwhelmingly a thing of the past because writers have abandoned it." Laura Hillenbrand, author of Seabiscuit and other bestselling books, told us that if we don't refer to animals in personal terms, "we open ourselves to abusing, neglecting, and exploiting creatures whose capacity for suffering is no less than our own. "People and animals share an immense capacity to feel," she says. "[W]e form beautiful, profound relationships with them, and we justly place animals on a moral plane alongside ourselves and far above that of the cinder block or the hubcap, the things we call 'it.' " Referring to animals in personal terms may help us recognize how much of life we share.

TOKYO -- Suzuki Motor will temporarily halt production at two of its three auto plants in Japan due to a shortage of semiconductors, Nikkei has learned, a sign of the growing headache the supply squeeze is causing the industry. The decision comes amid continuing shortages of computer chips, as well as concerns over delays in procuring some parts. The Japanese automaker will suspend production on Monday at its two factories in Shizuoka Prefecture. This is the first time Suzuki has had to shut down manufacturing due the lack of semiconductors. The suspension will apply to its plant in Sagara, and one of the three production lines at its Kosai plant. Suzuki has told Nikkei that "it has no plans to reduce [planned] production" for the time being, as it will operate the factories during holidays to make up for the suspension. The Sagara plant makes compact cars such as the Swift and Solio models, while the Kosai factory makes so-called kei minicars, including the Jimny. Suzuki's domestic production of passenger cars totaled 940,000 vehicles in the fiscal year ended March 2020. The two factories in Shizuoka produce about 80% of the automaker's output. The automaker was forced to shut some lines at the Kosai plant for one day in February because an earthquake in northeastern Japan that month disrupted production at some of its business partners. Other Japanese automakers, including Toyota Motor, Honda Motor, Nissan Motor, also halted operations due to parts shortages caused by a severe winter storm in North America.

In this undated selfie photo provided by Charlotte Crawford is Natalia Crawford, who died of COVID-19 in Texas before she had a chance to receive a vaccine against the coronavirus that causes the illness. More than 247,000 people have died of COVID-19 in the U.S. since vaccines first became available in mid-December 2020. While it's unknown how many of them wanted to be immunized, families have wrenching stories of loved ones being infected after months of staying safe and then dying before they could get a dose. (Natalia Crawford via AP) THE ASSOCIATED PRESS. BY JAY REEVES, Associated Press After months of hoping to receive a COVID-19 immunization and then weeks of fighting the illness after one never came, Air Force veteran Diane Drewes was down to her last few breaths at a hospice center in Ohio when the phone rang. It was a health care worker, calling to schedule her first appointment for a coronavirus shot. Drewes’ daughter Laura Brown was stunned by the timing of the call in January but didn’t lash out over the phone or even explain that her 75-year-old mom was at the point of death. There just wasn’t any point, she said. “But me and my sister were upset that it came too late,” Brown said. “It seemed like the final insult.” More than 247,000 people have died of COVID-19 in the U.S. since vaccines first became available mid-December. Officials had warned that dispensing enough vaccines to reach herd immunity would take months. And with the initial vaccine supply extremely limited and the virus running rampant across the nation over the winter, it was a sad reality that some would contract COVID-19 and die before they could be inoculated. With surveys showing a large percentage of the U.S. po[CENSORED]tion leery of vaccines, it’s impossible to say exactly how many of the dead would have even wanted an immunization. But Brown said her mother wanted one — desperately. Other families have similar, wrenching stories of loved ones being infected after months of staying safe and then dying before they could get a dose. Charlotte Crawford, who has spent 40 years working in the microbiology laboratory at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, was fully immunized in January after receiving two doses of the Moderna vaccine because of her work. Yet she then endured the agony of watching her husband and two adult children contract COVID-19 and die before they could get shots. Henry Royce Crawford, 65, had an appointment for a vaccine when he fell ill, his widow said. Their children, Roycie Crawford, 33, and Natalia Crawford, 38, also wanted the shot but had yet to find one when they got sick and died, Crawford said. The days since their deaths in late February and early March seem like a jumble to Crawford; she is still trying to sort out what happened as she pleads with anyone who will listen to get a vaccine as soon as possible. “All I know is I did three funerals in three weeks,” said Crawford, of Forney, Texas. While more than 96 million people in the U.S. have received at least one dose of vaccine, only 53 million are fully vaccinated, or roughly 16% of the nation's po[CENSORED]tion, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. With doses now more widely available, shots are proceeding at a quickened pace. More than a dozen states have opened vaccine eligibility to all adults amid an increase in virus cases. Only the Johnson & Johnson shot is complete after one dose, so the wait time between the first and second shot of either the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines leaves a period of weeks when a recipient remains vulnerable and subject to infection. The wait for a second shot proved too long for Richard Rasmussen of Las Vegas, said daughter Julie Rasmussen. Richard Rasmussen, 73, fervently believed in wearing face masks for protection and had his first dose of the Pfizer vaccine in early January. “He was very excited to get his vaccine,” she said. Yet Rasmussen tested positive for the virus 10 days later and died Feb. 19 before receiving a second dose, Julie Rasmussen said. His final decline was stunning for its speed, she said. “And now I am alone,” Rasmussen said in an email interview. “He was my best friend. We texted everyday, all day. I have no siblings. No husband/boyfriend. He was single. I am all alone navigating the legal system and packing his house." The same day Rasmussen died, Deidre Love Sullens, of Oklahoma City, was standing in the icy, snow-covered parking lot of a vaccine clinic amid the grief of losing both her mother, Catherine Douglas, 65, and stepfather, Asa Bartlett Douglas, 58, to COVID-19 in a span of 16 days before they could get shots. “They, and I, looked at the vaccine as the single life-changing factor that would allow us to see one another in person again. It was our goal. We all aimed to get the vaccine so we could gather again, so my mother could play with my daughter again, so we could maybe visit my grandma in the nursing home and not be restricted to window visits,” Sullens said in an interview conducted by email. On that cold February day, with some doses to spare because foul weather kept others from making appointments, a worker called Sullens in to the clinic to be immunized. Sullens said she was overcome by tears and a “surreal feeling of disbelief" as she entered. “My mind was thinking, ‘If only my parents could have held out an extra two months ... they’d be here getting the vaccine too. They’d be alive. They’d be here with me,'" she said. Copyright 2021 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.

Intel seems to be preparing a refresh of its existing Tiger Lake-U and Tiger Lake-H CPUs with faster quad-core models. The lineup will be pitted against AMD's Ryzen 5000U and Ryzen 5000H Cezanne CPUs that are available in several configurations. Intel Readies Tiger Lake-U & Tiger Lake-H Refresh CPU Lineup To Tackle AMD Ryzen 5000 Cezanne Notebook Chips Four models have leaked out by several retailers & OEMs. The models include two Tiger Lake-U & two Tiger Lake-H CPUs. Now you may be wondering that why is Intel offering a refresh for its yet-to-be-released Tiger Lake-H SKUs already but the refreshed lineup is mainly for the H35 variants that feature quad cores while the H45 variants launch in mid of 2021. Both lineups are based on the same Willow Cove cores and feature quad-core-only configurations. Intel Tiger Lake-H35 Core i7-11390H & Core i5-11320H The Intel Tiger Lake-H35 lineup will feature the Core i7-11390H and the Core i5-11320H. The Core i7-11390H will be the fastest chip in the lineup featuring 4 cores, 8 threads, 12 MB cache, 96 EUs & 768 cores. The chip will feature a base clock of 3.4 GHz and boost clocks of 4.6 GHz (all-core) / 5.00 GHz (1-core). The Intel Core i5-11320H also features 4 cores and 8 threads with a similar cache configuration of 12 MB. The chip offers a 3.2 GHz base clock, 4.3 GHz (all-core) boost, and 4.5 GHz (1-core) boost. It comes with the same TDP of 35W which is configurable down to 28W. The Core i5-11320H will likely get 80 EUs or 640 cores. Intel Tiger Lake-U Core i7-1195G7 & Core i5-1155G7 The Intel Tiger Lake-U lineup will also get two new CPUs for the UP3 platform. As per the info, the U Series will consist of the Core i7-1195G7 and the Core i5-1155G7. Both of these chips have 4 cores & 8 threads with a 12 MB cache. The most interesting part about these chips is that they retain the same clocks as the existing parts they are meant to replace so a possible change is speculated to come in the form of the all-core boost frequency which will be higher than the existing models. It is very likely that this would be the case for the 28W CPUs that can be configured down to 12W too. For these moderate clock speed boosts, you can expect a small improvement in performance in various notebooks that will make use of them. As for the products themselves, it looks like OEMs are already working on laptops with designs such as the Lenovo ThinkBook 14s Yoga, the Dell XPS 13 9310 & Intel NUC M15 Laptop already under work. Expect the laptops to launch around mid of this year after Tiger Lake-H45 notebooks have entered the market.

Attack helicopters were added to Call of Duty: Warzone in December 2020, but were quickly removed after players discovered that they could be used to trigger an exploit that made them invisible: They could see, move, and shoot as normal, but couldn't be seen by others. This wasn't a lot of fun for most players, as you can imagine, and Raven grounded the choppers until it could figure out what was going on. It took more than three months, but the buzzbirds finally returned to action in yesterday's Season Two Reloaded update. Unfortunately, it soon became apparent that Raven was being a little over-optimistic about having fixed the problem, as players almost immediately began reporting that the invisibility glitch was back, too. It's not clear whether this is the same invisibility glitch as the one in December or a new glitch with the same effect, but either way Raven eventually took notice and once again grounded the fleet. A time frame for their return hasn't been announced yet; currently the Black Ops Cold War/Warzone Trello says only that the issue is still under investigation. While it's no doubt frustrating for players, the bright side is that at least it's not as bad as the Warzone stim glitch, which took multiple tries to kill and eventually forced a rework of gas effects just to keep it from messing things up too badly. I've reached out to Activision for more information on the status of the glitch and a possible timeline for the return of attack helicopters, and will update if I receive a reply.Andy covers the day-to-day happenings in the big, wide world of PC gaming—the stuff we call "news." In his off hours, he wishes he had time to play the 80-hour RPGs and immersive sims he used to love so much.

The public is being urged to give seals space to protect them. after a much-reported death of a seal in London. The Seal Alliance is warning that getting too close to seals can lead to their injury and death, even up to several months later. Seals have ventured further inshore on beaches and coastlines that were quieter during lockdown, it says. Last month a po[CENSORED]r seal known as "Freddie" was put down after he was attacked by a dog in Barnes, London. The animal, named after singer Freddie Mercury because of his crowd-pleasing antics, had been entertaining people near Hammersmith Bridge. Seal named after Queen singer dies in dog attack What's the roadmap for lifting lockdown? The Seal Alliance, a coalition of regional marine wildlife groups, is launching its campaign over the Easter weekend because people are expected to take advantage of lockdown relaxation to go for walks on coasts and estuaries, take part in water activities or fly drones. The government-backed campaign urges people to keep dogs on a lead when seals might be present, never to feed the marine mammals and take all litter home. Female seals are heavily pregnant during the summer, the Sea Alliance says, and getting too close or disturbing them could lead to seals stampeding on rocks, which can prove fatal to both mother and pup. Environment Secretary George Eustice said: "Seals are one of our most iconic marine mammals. They can be found along our coastline around the UK and we must do all that we can to protect them. "Disturbance by members of the public can be detrimental to seals but this is entirely preventable." Andy Ottaway, of the Seal Protection Action Group, added: "Our precious coastal wildlife is coming under increasing human pressure. "We need to be aware of the harm we can cause by getting too close to our seals and the often tragic consequences when we do." Sue Sayer, of the Seal Research Trust, said: "If a seal is looking at you, it has been disturbed, so please move further away. Use your camera and binoculars, stay quiet and out of sight." The UK is home to about 153,000 grey seals, an estimated 38% of the world's po[CENSORED]tion, and 88% of these are in Scotland. The coastline is also home to about 30% of the European subspecies of common or harbour seals, about 46,000 seals.

Auto companies racked up more than 100 per cent growth in sales in March on account of the low base of the same month last year. However, industry executives warned the numbers must be seen in the context of last March, when seven days of sales were lost due to the lockdown and the pandemic began buffeting growth much before that. The country had gone into lockdown on March 25. “Sales numbers of March 2021 have been uncharacteristically high due to the extremely low numbers of March 2020, which was a reason for the lockdown. Hence, it cannot be used as a reference for industry standards. The truth is sales numbers are lower than 2015-16 levels,” said an industry executive. Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, reported a near 100 per cent jump in sales in March at 167,014 units against just 83,792 units last year. ALSO READ: Recovery on a roll: GST mop-up hits record Rs 1.24 trillion in March However, the carmaker registered a decline of 7.8 per cent in sales at a little more than 1.32 million units in FY21 as compared to slightly above 1.43 million units in FY20. The company, however, said sales had returned to pre-pandemic levels. They registered a growth rate of 0.8 per cent over March 2019. Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) reported sales in March at 40,403 vehicles, compared to 6,679 in March last year. At Mahindra we are witnessing very good momentum in demand. Bolero volumes for March have been the highest in this financial year and despite supply constraints we have been able to ramp up production of the Bolero Pik-up significantly during the month. We expect supply challenges to remain for the next two to three months and then ease out gradually,” said Vijay Nakra, chief executive officer, automotive division at M&M. The momentum of high numbers was also witnessed in the two-wheeler space with Hero Moto Corp, the largest two-wheeler maker, ringing up a growth rate of 72 per cent over the corresponding month in the previous year. The company had sold 334,647 units in March 2020. The recovery in consumer demand and efficient collaboration with our global distributors have enabled us to achieve these numbers. While the pandemic continues to impact the global auto industry, we are witnessing strong preference for wide range of motorcycles and scooters,” said Sanjay Bhan, head of global business at the firm. However, executives and analysts warned the rising number of Covid cases, semiconductor shortages, and high fuel prices remained key challengers for the sales momentum to continue. Our interaction with leading channel partners indicates demand sentiment across segments except two-wheelers remains unaffected, despite second concurrent lockdown in certain parts (of the country). However short supply both in CVs and PVs are impacting retails to an extent 20-25 per cent. Two-wheeler demand continues to remain weak, leading to further inventory increase,” analysts at Prabhudas Lilladher said in a research report.

Medical workers have expressed concern over the rising cases of non-communicable diseases, also known as lifestyle diseases, in rural communities. The doctors say initially, such ailments, which include diabetes, heart diseases, cancer, chronic kidney disease and osteoarthritis are associated with people living in urban areas. But medical doctors were surprised that 60 per cent of about 2,000 people who turned for a medical camp in Bushenyi District on Monday and Tuesday were diagnosed with heart diseases, hypertension (high blood pressure) and diabetes. The free medical camp attracted residents from the districts of Bushenyi, Mitooma, Rubirizi, Sheema and Buhweju. It was organised by Ishaka Adventist Hospital in collaboration with Mr Dick Noble, an American social worker, and Bushenyi District local government. Findings “Observations from nine clinicians in the camp indicate that most people are suffering from diabetes, hypertension and heart diseases, something that seems abnormal. Previously, we have had people diagnosed with infections such as malaria, urinary tract infections, flu and cough,” Dr Paul Ssempebwa, a medical doctor at Ishaka Adventist Hospital, told Daily Monitor. The main factors contributing to lifestyle diseases include bad food habits, physical inactivity, wrong body posture, and disturbed biological clock. While people living in urban centres have previously been vulnerable to non-communicable disease because of spending much of the time in one place and not minding exercising, their counterparts in the rural areas get non-communicable diseases due to poverty-related stress, according to Dr Eliab Tayebwa, the Bushenyi District health officer. “Yes, people in rural areas do a lot of work because they dig, weed and do all sorts of movements, but many of them remain stressed and stress management is their problem. Someone spends the whole day working, but has no money for taking care of the family. Such people normally get stressed and suffer from lifestyle diseases. Some end up getting mental health problems and committing suicide,” Dr Tayebwa said. Ms Zaharat Nabadda, a nurse, added that rural-based people have poor eating habits, hardly exercise, and handle stress poorly. “No insect causes lifestyle diseases like diabetes. It is basically how you are managing and behaving. What you eat and how it affects you brings in conditions such as high blood pressure, arthritis and diabetes. We have also realised that many people don’t exercise because they don’t have time. Others don’t see it important, others say they are busy. So, Inactivity, especially in the rural areas where people think they have everything near them, is becoming a problem,” she argued. he head of nursing at Ishaka Adventist Hospital, Ms Hope Rukundo advised people to always go for medical check-up to help them in monitoring their health. The Ishaka Adventist Hospital executive director, Ms Lydia Komugisha, said the medical camp was missionary work extended to the people who cannot access affordable medical services.

SPRINGFIELD — State education officials made their case Thursday for a funding increase above and beyond what Gov. J.B. Pritzker has recommended, arguing that schools need the additional money to overcome the effects the COVID-19 pandemic has had on student learning. “While this recommendation does not represent the full need of education, and we clearly understand that, it's made in recognition of the state's current fiscal condition,” Illinois State Board of Education chairman Darren Reisberg told lawmakers Thursday. “We strongly believe this budget recommendation is necessary to provide the resources our schools, educators and students need to continue to recover equitably from the COVID-19 pandemic.” SBE officials made the case at a state Senate appropriations committee Thursday after appearing before a House committee last month. Pritzker proposed essentially flat funding for K-12 schools in the next fiscal year, with only a $12.1 million increase for two districts — East St. Louis and North Chicago — that remain under state financial supervision. ISBE, however, is seeking a $406.5 million increase, or 4.6 percent, above current year spending. That would bring their total state funding to just over $9.3 billion. That includes a $362.1 million increase in evidence-based funding – a formula adopted in 2017 that aims to bring all districts up to 90 percent of adequacy by 2027. The state board also expects to receive a $2.4 billion increase in federal funding, but a slight decrease in funding from other state funds. Combined, that would bring its total funding next year to just under $16.1 billion, or 21.4 percent above this year’s level. The evidence-based funding formula uses factors such as a district’s student headcount, poverty rate and class sizes to determine what an adequate level of funding would be. When it was first adopted, 168 school districts were funded at less than 60 percent of adequacy, but currently only 10 are at or below that level. Still, Robin Steans, president of the education advocacy group Advance Illinois, said more than half of all students in Illinois attend districts that are less than 70 percent funded. “And just so you understand that when we say over half of our students are in districts below 70 percent funded, that means that on average those districts have over $4,500 per-kid funding gap,” she said. “So as they're trying to meet needs, they're doing it with both hands tied behind their backs.” Reisberg said the additional funding is especially needed this year because the pandemic has deepened racial and economic inequities that have existed since long before the outbreak. “State investment, we believe, is needed to ensure that our students who were hardest hit by the pandemic have the increased access to learning time, support, staffing and opportunities that they need to recover,” he said. In addition to the increase in base funding for K-12 schools, ISBE is also seeking a $50 million increase in funding for early childhood education, enough to open an additional 9,400 slots for children from birth to age 5. “Research shows that providing a high-quality education for children before they turn 5 yields significant medium- and long-term benefits for students,” State Superintendent of Education Carmen Ayala said. “Children in early childhood education programs are less likely to repeat a grade, they're less likely to be identified as having special needs. more prepared academically for later grades, more likely to graduate from high school and are higher earners in the workforce.” ISBE’s presentation was substantially the same as the one it made to a House committee in March. Thursday’s hearing was for informational purposes only and the Senate committee took no action on the request. Lawmakers typically begin putting the budget together late in the legislative session, and the final budget bill is usually one of the last to pass the General Assembly in late May. The Committee on Liberatory Information Technology has announced a long-standing Chromebook bug that could reveal user location history. Evidently already on the radar of Google, the platform has a feature allowing anyone with physical access to your device to connect as a guest and view your Wi-Fi logs. Of course, once said intruder has accessed these logs, they would then need the technical knowhow to make sense of them. However, if they are skilled enough, they may be able to track your place history by viewing your Wi-Fi network access over the past seven days. It turns out the bug exists largely due to Chrome OS's constant sharing of information with the Internet in order to enhance ease-of-use for the user. So far, a Google representative has stated that they are investigating this issue. For the time being, users can avoid such tracking by disabling guest browsing mode on their devices. Furthermore, a device owner should only allow guest users run of their device by first having the guest sign into his or her own account from the lock screen. Once finished, the guest should immediately log out, and the device owner should use the user drop down menu to remove the guest from the device. In order to avoid this bug, users can navigate to the 'Everything' button on their keyboard and input 'Settings'. Next, in the left sidebar, they should visit the 'People' section and then select 'Manage other people'. From there, the user should turn off 'Enable Guest browsing'. However, if your device version shows the 'Accounts' section on the 'Settings' left sidebar instead of 'People', users must click on 'People' in order to access the 'Manage other people' option. Moreover, users can take the further action of 'Restrict sign-in to the following users', which can be found in the same section. That way, by selecting the option 'Add user', a single device owner with multiple Google accounts can add their email addresses so that Chromebook recognizes and allows access from only those accounts. Once the user makes this change, even someone with physical access to the device will not be able to get anywhere without knowing the credentials of the whitelisted email account. In terms of reactions to this bug, various outlets such as The Verge have stated that they would prefer Google spend time and effort securing its products rather than inviting potential vulnerabilities simply to provide users higher tech gadgets.

After hearing about the NVIDIA CMP series of cryptocurrency mining cards, we didn't really learn too much about who would actually be purchasing them. Now, we know one customer who is ready to implement a lot of the CMP mining cards. Hut 8 Mining Corp. has put in a $30 million order with NVIDIA for CMP mining cards. Hut 8's Mining Capacity With The Added NVIDIA CMP Series Cards Will Rise To 1600 GH/s Hut 8 Mining Corp. is already one of the largest and oldest Bitcoin mining companies and this purchase looks to greatly expand their mining capacity. NVIDIA will start delivering the CMP mining cards in May of 2021 and Hut 8 plans to implement them all by the summer. This purchase will increase Hut 8's mining capacity by 1600 Gigahash. In terms of consumer GPUs, 1600 GH/s is equivalent to running roughly 13,333 RTX 3090s which have a hash rate of 120 MH/s. Hut 8 also mentioned that they will be using the CMP cards to venture into an alternative blockchain network and expand their current operation. The CEO of Hut 8, Jaime Leverton, was certainly excited to purchase the CMP mining cards. The adoption and the development of applications interacting with various blockchain networks have never been stronger, opening many possibilities across a variety of industries. We are incredibly excited to have these high performance CMPs in our fleet. We believe mining with CMPs will open up new opportunities for Hut 8 and will allow us to continue to execute on our long- and short-term plans for increased and diversified revenue streams. Hut 8 did not mention which CMP cards they will be receiving or how many they will be receiving. NVIDIA currently offers the CMP 30HX, 40HX, 50HX, and 90HX. There has also been a rumor of a 5th, more powerful CMP 220X based on the Ampere A100 GPU. The Ampere A100 GPU is the most powerful GPU in NVIDIA's lineup aimed at HPC and AI applications. It's likely that they will receive the CMP 90HX and CMP 220HX to add to their operation due to the sheer mining power of the cards. Most miners can't even compete with this level of sophistication, but it's an impressive feat to have a mining operation with a hash rate of 1600 GH/s and surely draws a lot of power as well. For the regular consumer, the struggle continues to buy RTX 30 series GPUs as smaller miners have been purchasing them.

This article was originally published on March 28. It was updated on March 31 to reflect the latest comments from Wizards of the Coast and the artist. On Tuesday, Wizards of the Coast suspended work with contract artist Jason Felix following accusations that a Magic: The Gathering card he illustrated for the new Strixhaven set plagiarized official and fan-made art. Felix has now admitted to copying the artworks, and has pledged to compensate the original artists. The plagiarism came to light last weekend, when artist Kitt Lapeña, who goes by Scarypet online, was told that Magic card Crux of Fate strongly resembled one of their DeviantArt fan art uploads from 2016. The similarities between Crux of Fate's depiction of Magic elder dragon Nicol Bolas and Lapeña's 2016 depiction of the character isn't subtle. Even details like skin folds are mimicked. Most notably, the original fan art contains a critical error which is repeated in the final Crux of Fate art. Nearly all modern art of Nicol Bolas gives the dragon three fingers, while Lapeña's rendition has five. The Crux of Fate art's Nicol Bolas also has five fingers. Lapeña took the incident in good humor, posting a lighthearted video to Twitter showing how similar the images are. The art of the other character on the card, Ugin, is also similar to art from another Magic card depicting that character: Ugin, the Spirit Dragon by Raymond Swanland. Although Lapeña said on Twitter that they were "not really looking for confrontation," Wizards of the Coast took notice. On Tuesday, the company announced that it would stop working with Felix, a freelance artist with 127 pieces of Magic: The Gathering card art to his name, for the immediate future. "It has come to our attention that the card Crux of Fate from the Strixhaven: School of Mages Mystical Archive may overtly feature Magic: The Gathering fan art and the contracted artist did not receive permission for this incorporation," said the company. "These actions do not reflect the values of Wizards, and, as a result, we will be suspending future work with Jason Felix until we have been able to bring this matter to successful conclusion."On Wednesday, Felix acknowledged the accusation on Twitter and apologized. "I've waited to make a public response because I wanted to reach out to the affected artists Kitt Lapeña, Raymond Swanland and WotC first," he wrote. "I was overworked, but that's no excuse. I messed up and I'm trying to make amends." Felix goes on to say that he will compensate both artists, and that he plans to advocate for their names to go on the card rather than his. "The artists did not deserve this. It's not much and I don't expect forgiveness," he said. "But I hope it's a step towards being better. I'm so sorry this ever happened and to let down the fans." Crux of Fate is a variant for a reprint of an old card, and was added this year as part of the Strixhaven set's Mystical Archive feature. Wizards of the Coast often works with freelance artists on Magic: The Gathering, who produce the majority of the game's art and often retain limited rights and receive royalties for its future use.
