  1. Nissan's Pike Factory cars—the Figaro, Be-1, S-Cargo and so on—have long been the best-known cars that embody Japanese domestic-market wonkiness. But they aren't the only ones, as this wonky little Toyota proves. Check out this Toyota WiLL Vi, up for sale on Bring a Trailer (which, like Car and Driver, is part of Hearst Autos). It's a blend of Citroën and Yaris, and if you can believe it, also beer, fax machines, and candy. The WiLL Vi was part of an experimental linkup of various Japanese companies trying to appeal to the youth market. As you may have already guessed from the unusual styling, the experiment didn't work.Still, there's something appealing about an odd-duck car with conventional underpinnings, and if the WiLL Vi looks strange, it's conventional Toyota underneath. That means you get a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine with 87 horsepower and a four-speed automatic transmission. This car will provide modest acceleration, excellent fuel economy, and likely long-lived and faithful reliability. All the usual Toyota dependability that enthusiasts sometimes deride as boring. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a64246021/2000-toyota-will-vi-bring-a-trailer-auction/
  2. The family of a British couple in their seventies who have been detained in Afghanistan have expressed fears for their health after a court appearance was delayed. Peter Reynolds, 79, and his wife Barbie, 75, were arrested on 1 February while returning to their home in Bamiyan province. They were taken out of jail for court proceedings on Saturday and spent four hours sitting on the floor, chained to other prisoners before being returned to prison, according to their daughter. Sarah Entwistle added that her mother was "collapsing due to malnutrition" and that her father's health was "declining", saying that they have "no charges against them". She said that on Saturday, the couple had been informed "at the last minute" that they would not be seen by the judge. "The guards indicated that a different judge would now be handling the case, and we continue to hope they will receive a fair hearing in the coming week," she said. Their daughter added: "We continue to hope they will receive a fair hearing in the coming week." The couple are being held separately and did not see each other on Saturday. Before their arrest, Mr and Mrs Reynolds, who married in the Afghan capital Kabul in 1970, had been running training projects in Afghanistan for 18 years - including one that involved training mothers and children. Their work had apparently been approved by the local authorities despite the Taliban banning education for girls over 12-years-old and not allowing women to work. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4gd5epdlxno
  3. The Dusky-footed woodrat (Neotoma fuscipes) is a species of nocturnal rodent from North America. Woodrats are nicknamed "packrats" or "trade rats" because they tend to hoard things, build large domed dens, and "trade" by dropping then picking up another object for it.Dusky-footed woodrats are found in Mexico and the United States. They occur from Oregon into the northern part of Baja California. They are found along the Pacific coast, west of the deserts and Great Basin. Woodrats live near streams and in juniper and mixed coniferous forests. They prefer living in chaparral areas with dense ground cover because these areas offer a steady food supply and protection from predators, as well as an abundance of materials to build houses. In northeastern California, woodrats can inhabit lava rims and beds with enough vegetation cover.
  4. Venue: Hampden Park, Glasgow Date: Sunday, 23 March Kick-off: 17:00 GMT Coverage: Watch on BBC Scotland, BBC Two Scotland & iPlayer; listen on BBC Radio Scotland & Sounds; live text coverage & in-play clips on the BBC Sport website & app Scotland striker Lyndon Dykes was speaking to BBC Scotland's Amy Canavan From a dominant and fearless first half to a defensively sound second, Thursday night in Greece was a really good win for Scotland. The Greeks' home record over the last few years has been outstanding, so to go over there and get the win is a real credit to the boys. Everyone playing showed a lot of good things, there were some great performances and, finally, we got a little bit of luck that we are due - but you make your own luck. I think the boys did that, so I think they should go into this game on Sunday full of confidence and, obviously, with the advantage, we're looking in a good position. But it's definitely not dead. The first game was always going to be a little bit nervy, but I thought, particularly in the first half, our movement was very fluid and very confident. The front four, including Kenny McLean and Billy Gilmour sitting behind them, was really attacking - which is great to see and I hope we see more of that at Hampden. That's where we were fearless. Look at the defence, too, with Anthony Ralston and Grant Hanley especially. Two guys who haven't really had that many minutes this season, but both were excellent. They came in, knew what they needed to do with this team and with the manager and both put in outstanding performances. Grant's a top guy who I'm lucky enough to have as a club team-mate now. Football is not always easy, but the tough times show people's character and Grant's just top. As a person, he's a leader and a really good team-mate because you always know what you're going to get with him on and off the pitch. He's a great guy and I'm so pleased for him. He, with the other leaders in the squad, will make sure the mood is relaxed. Everyone will be happy and joking around. Just the same old with the squad we have. But everyone will be focussed on the game tonight at a full Hampden because we want to be playing against the best teams in League A of the Nations League. 'We got knocked down but stood back up again' To stay in the top group of the Nations League would be a massive achievement in itself. You see the teams that we've been playing and I'm sure the Tartan Army would've been saying at the start of the campaign that they'd want more of that. People have been saying for years we've got to get back to major tournaments and we've proven that we're good enough having got to the last two Euros. The tournament in Germany just didn't go in our favour. It was a disappointment for us all as it's just not how we wanted it to go. But it shows our character and it shows what kind of players we have on and off the pitch to put in the sort of performances we have recently. We had a setback, we got knocked down, but we stood back up again and we kept fighting. Now we've got back into our rhythm again. Form comes back and it looks like, at the moment, we are getting there as our confidence returns too. If we get a win over Greece, which I hope we do, and we remain in League A, then it's a massive achievement and we can look on to the next thing... the World Cup qualifiers. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/cg70m7yv9k9o
  5. More than 50,000 Palestinians have been killed during Israel's military campaign in Gaza, the territory's Hamas-run health ministry has announced. That number - 50,021 - equates to about 2.1% of the 2.3 million pre-war po[CENSORED]tion of the territory, or around 1 in 46 people. A total of 113,274 others had been injured in the same period, the health ministry said. Figures from the Gaza Ministry of Health (MoH) have been widely used throughout the war and are seen as reliable by the United Nations (UN) and international institutions. But Israel has consistently refuted data published by Gaza's authorities. International journalists, including the BBC, are blocked by Israel from entering Gaza independently, so are unable to verify figures from either side. The figures released by the MoH for the number of people killed do not differentiate between civilians and fighters. In November, the UN's Human Rights Office said its analysis showed close to 70% of verified victims over a six-month period were women and children. In January, The Lancet medical journal published a study which suggested the death toll could in fact be substantially higher than official figures reported by MoH - by up to 41%. The war was triggered by Hamas's attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people, mainly civilians, were killed and 251 other taken hostage. Israel responded to the 7 October attack with a massive military offensive, which has caused vast destruction to homes and infrastructure, in addition to those killed or injured. The MoH also reported on Sunday at least 39 deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of people killed to 673 since Israel resumed its military operations in the territory on Tuesday. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/clyz4nnqgvdo

There are new modes to experience, Dolls to recruit, and the announcement of the first-ever Exiulium offline event. Read on to find out exactly what Aphelion has in store. New Elite Dolls and Outfits Without a doubt, one of the biggest additions to this new update is the Elite Dolls. If you manage to recruit Klukai, and can tear yourself away from simply spending time with her at the Dormitory, you will want to get her geared up just right. Her Elite Weapon, Skylla, is a Medium Ammo Assault Rifle modelled after the 416. You can also roll for the Bittersweet Caramel weapon for Makiatto. Seeing as style is king, there are a few new outfits to try on. Knocking out a few in-game tasks will net you Klukai's Speed Star outfit for free, giving you even more reason to try and recruit her. 10.
  11. Apple's iPhone 17 series of smartphones is expected to arrive with certain changes to the rear panel, and these purported design changes been spotted in a fresh set of images showing dummy units of the handsets. The successors to the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are said to arrive with larger camera modules, and feature a rear panel made of glass and aluminium. Previous reports suggest that the regular iPhone 17 will arrive without any major design changes, while the iPhone 16 Plus will make way for a new iPhone 17 Air model. iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max Design (Expected) A new image showing dummy units of the purported iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Air, and iPhone 17 Pro Max was leaked by X (formerly Twitter) user Sonny Dickson. Unlike the pictures of metal iPhone 17 series dummies that were previously posted by the same user, this image gives us a good look at the design changes on the Pro models. https://www.gadgets360.com/mobiles/news/apple-iphone-17-pro-max-design-dummy-unit-metal-7982940#pfrom=topstory
  12. US President Donald Trump's administration has said it will revoke the temporary legal status of more than half a million migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela. Migrants without a legal basis to remain have been warned to leave the country before their work permits and deportation shield are cancelled on 24 April, according to a notice posted by the federal government. The 530,000 migrants were brought into the US under a Biden-era sponsorship process known as CHNV that was designed to open legal migration pathways. Trump suspended the programme once he took office. It is unclear how many of these migrants have been able to secure another status in the interim that would allow them to stay in the US legally. The programme was launched under Democratic President Joe Biden in 2022, first covering Venezuelans before it was expanded to other countries. It allowed the migrants and their immediate family members to fly into the US if they had American sponsors and remain for two years under a temporary immigration status known as parole. The Biden administration had argued that CHNV would help curb illegal border crossings at the southern US border. But the Department of Homeland Security on Friday accused the previous administration of having lied to America. The agency's statement said Biden officials "granted them [migrants] opportunities to compete for American jobs and undercut American workers; forced career civil servants to promote the programs even when fraud was identified; and then blamed Republicans in Congress for the chaos that ensued and the crime that followed". However, the 35-page notice in the Federal Register said some of those in the US under CHNV might be allowed to remain on a "case-by-case basis". Trump is also considering whether to cancel the temporary legal status of some 240,000 Ukrainians who fled to the US during the conflict with Russia. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c33706jy774o
  13. The next-generation Alfa Romeo Stelvio will be revealed this year ahead of a launch in 2026, the company's CEO has confirmed. The Stelvio will be followed by a next-generation Giulia, and both models will continue to be built in Italy. Alfa Romeo also confirmed that both the Giulia and Stelvio will be offered with hybrid powertrains. UPDATE 3/21/25: Alfa Romeo confirmed to Car and Driver that the next-generation Stelvio will begin production for North America in 2026 with both electric and hybrid powertrains. Alfa Romeo also shed light on the future of the outgoing models: “In North America, the 2.0L gas powertrain for Stelvio and Giulia will continue to be available through the 2026 calendar year.” Alfa Romeo desperately needs some fresh metal to rejuvenate its lineup. A next-generation for the Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV are on the way, with both set to adopt electric powertrains. But earlier this year, Alfa Romeo confirmed it would follow a "multi-energy approach," suggesting electricity wouldn't be the sole motivation for the two upcoming models. Now, Alfa Romeo has confirmed the next-generation Stelvio will arrive first and that both models will be offered with a hybrid powertrain. The confirmation came via a LinkedIn post from Santo Ficili, the CEO of Alfa Romeo and Maserati, who assumed the roles following the corporate shakeup caused by the departure of Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares last fall. While we already knew the aging Stelvio and Giulia were due for new generations—the Giulia originally arrived for the 2017 model year, while Stelvio showed up for 2018—we now have more concrete details about the upcoming versions. The next-generation Stelvio will hit the road first, with Ficili stating that it will be revealed this year ahead of a launch in 2026. The CEO said the Giulia would follow but didn't specify when, although we expect the next iteration of Alfa Romeo's sports sedan to be unveiled sometime in 2026. Comments made by Ficili earlier this year also suggest that the Giulia may morph into an SUV-like vehicle with a taller body. Ficili also confirmed that the original plan for Alfa Romeo to go all-electric by 2027 has been scrapped, as he stated that the Stelvio and Giulia will be offered with a gas-electric hybrid powertrain. Both cars will be built on the STLA Large platform, which also underpins the latest Dodge Charger and Jeep Wagoneer S. Ficili didn't say what engine will provide the internal-combustion portion of this new hybrid system, but we can take an educated guess. The new Charger is currently sold as the electric Charger Daytona model but will soon be joined by the Charger Sixpack, which will pack the Hurricane twin-turbocharged inline-six, currently found in the Ram 1500 as well as the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. The 3.0-liter makes 420 horsepower in its standard tune, and 550 hp in the "High Output" setup. Since we already know that it will work with the STLA Large platform, it seems likely that the Hurricane engine will form the basis of a new hybrid powertrain in the Alfa Romeo models. While it's possible that the Alfas could use a different hybrid system—like the four-cylinder-based setup found in the Tonale hybrid—we think the Stelvio and Giulia will stick to six cylinders. Ficili also confirmed both the Stelvio and Giulia will continue to be assembled in Italy. More details on both models should emerge later this year. This story was originally published March 19, 2025. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a64231062/2026-alfa-romeo-stelvio-hybrid-revealed-this-year/
  14. The family of a businessman who died after being hit by a car while running have concerns about the police investigation into his death, an inquest heard. Stephen Chamberlain, an associate of tech tycoon Mike Lynch, died in hospital three days after a collision with a car on 17 August last year. The 52-year-old died from a "traumatic head injury" at Addenbrooke's Hospital following the incident on the A1123 in Cambridgeshire. At a pre-inquest review, lawyers representing Mr Chamberlain's family claimed key information was missing from the police collision investigation report. A previous hearing heard a car had been travelling between Stretham and Wicken when it crested a humpback bridge and hit him as he crossed the road. The driver of the car, a 49-year-old woman from Haddenham, remained at the scene and assisted with inquiries. At Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Coroner's Court lawyers said the incident report provided by the police was incomplete and did not contain details of what was said at the scene. Sally Hobson, representing Mr Chamberlain's family, said: "I make it very clear, that we are not for one moment involved in this inquest with a view to it being a blame game. "It is simply so that the family can be aware of the full details of what took place prior to the collision and in the immediate aftermath before Mr Chamberlain was taken to the hospital." She continued it did not properly address all the responsibilities of a driver, although it set out the responsibilities of a pedestrian. The barrister urged the coroner to order an independent report to "look fully at the issues we have set out". Cleared of fraud Area Coroner, Caroline Jones, said she would direct the police to produce further information but would not order an independent report. "As much as I would love to have the time and resources to thoroughly investigate each and every case that comes before the court, we simply have to be proportionate in the evidence we gather in cases so that we may answer those statutory questions," she said. "I note that the officers involved in the collision investigation have outlined what additional information they have obtained. "They might also be able to assuage some of the family's concerns." The coroner adjourned the hearing for a full inquest to take place later this year. The pair had been defendants in a fraud trial in the United States earlier last year. American prosecutors made fraud allegations over the $11bn (£8.6bn) sale of Mr Lynch's software firm, Autonomy, to Hewlett-Packard in 2011. Both men were found not guilty of the charge in June last year, following a trial at a federal court in San Francisco, California. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cly2vn82zdlo
  15. The wolverine (Gulo gulo) is the largest land-dwelling species of the family Mustelidae. It is a muscular carnivore and a solitary animal. The wolverine has a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion to its size, with the documented ability to kill prey many times larger than itself.Wolverines have the characteristics of a dog a bear and, a skunk. They have long snouts, short legs, and long hair. Though the legs of these animals are short, their large, five-toed paws with crampon-like claws and plantigrade posture enable them to climb up and over steep cliffs, trees, and snow-covered peaks with relative ease. Wolverines have thick, dark, oily, highly hydrophobic fur, making it resistant to frost. A light-silvery facial mask is distinct in some individuals, and a pale buff stripe runs laterally from the shoulders along the side and crosses the rump just above a 25-35 cm (10-14 in) bushy tail. Some individuals display prominent white hair patches on their throats or chests. Wolverines, like other mustelids, possess a special upper molar in the back of the mouth that is rotated 90 degrees, towards the inside of the mouth. This special characteristic allows wolverines to tear off meat from prey or carrion that has been frozen solid. https://animalia.bio/wolverine?collection=34
  16. The Thomas Tuchel era is officially under way, but who impressed most in his first game as England head coach against Albania? BBC Sport football news reporter Alex Howell rates how the players performed in Friday's World Cup qualifier - and you can see how BBC Sport readers rated them at the bottom of the page too. Starting XI Jordan Pickford: Barely had a save to make. His distribution was good as always. 6 Kyle Walker: Picked as right-back in a four-man defence and gave England width in attack. His experience helped a backline with two debutants. One key interception but hard to judge defensively as he didn't have much to deal with. 6 Ezri Konsa: Very tidy at the back, dealt with the few Albania attacks when called upon and continues to excel at international level. A positive first start under the new manager ahead of the 2026 World Cup. 7 Dan Burn: A first England start caps a dream couple of weeks for the Newcastle defender. Overall he was solid and made a couple of key blocks. A couple of nervy moments and a slight misunderstanding with Pickford after blocking a shot in the first half, but dealt with the danger afterwards. A threat from set-pieces and hit the bar with a header. 6 Myles Lewis-Skelly: A full England debut caps an amazing breakthrough season for the Arsenal defender. He was tasked, like he is for his club, with stepping into midfield but also ran on the outside at times too. His goal means the 18-year-old is the youngest player to score on his senior England debut. 8 Declan Rice: The deepest of the midfielders and again not really tested defensively. Gave the ball to the attackers and kept play moving. A clever pass set up Kane's goal. 7 Curtis Jones: Just a third start for Jones but showed, in flashes, why he has been a key part of Liverpool's midfield this season. Linked the play well and looked to get into the box when he could. A quiet second half before being replaced in the 74th minute. 6 Phil Foden: A quiet performance from the Manchester City man playing in his unfavoured position on the right wing. Undoubted talent but he found it hard against an Albania side that defended deep and he didn't show enough. 5 Jude Bellingham: A superb pass for Lewis-Skelly's opener. He looked to make things happen with passes or by dribbling past players to get through Albania's low block. 7 Marcus Rashford: Linked well with Bellingham on the left and looked to beat his full-back when the opportunity came. He also pressed well which is something Tuchel wanted him to show. Subbed after a quiet second half. 6 Harry Kane: The instruction to press and stay high up the pitch was clear, a big difference from the Kane that England saw at the Euros last summer. An excellent touch and finish for his trademark goal showed why he is still captain and first choice number nine. 7 Substitutes Morgan Rogers: Brought on in a deeper central role as Tuchel looked to use his dribbling skills and power to break down a stubborn Albania defence. 6 Jarrod Bowen: Came on for Foden but with England scoring a second soon after he came on, the game went flat. 6 Anthony Gordon: Similarly to Bowen, there weren't many attacks for Gordon to show what he is about. Will be an interesting battle for the starting role on the left side of England's attack. 6 Jordan Henderson: Came on and marshalled the midfield as England saw out a comfortable win. 6 Reece James: A late sub for Lewis-Skelly but no time to show anything. 17. Tech billionaire and senior Trump adviser Elon Musk has visited the Pentagon for briefings that have sparked debate after US media reported that he would be given an overview of American plans in the event of war with China. President Donald Trump denied the reports, saying "China will not even be mentioned or discussed". Musk himself called for the prosecution of officials he said had leaked "maliciously false information" to the New York Times, which first reported the story. But the Pentagon visit represented an unusual level of access for the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, whose companies hold billions of dollars in federal defence contracts. As Musk departed the defence secretary's office around 10:21 local time (14:21 GMT) on Friday, reporters asked him about the meeting. "It's always a great meeting. I've been here before, you know," he said before departing the Pentagon. The public back-and-forth about the meeting follows a New York Times report that Musk would learn about the China war plan during his Pentagon visit. But NBC News and Politico later reported the Pentagon meeting would involve unclassified information. An unnamed US official told Reuters that the briefing would be an overview of several topics that included China. Trump said the New York Times reported "incorrectly, that Elon Musk is going to the Pentagon tomorrow to be briefed on any potential 'war with China.' How ridiculous? China will not even be mentioned or discussed. How disgraceful it is that the discredited media can make up such lies. Anyway, the story is completely untrue!!!" US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth also denied the New York Times report, saying in a post on X "this is NOT a meeting about 'top secret China war plans.' It's an informal meeting about innovation, efficiencies & smarter production". Asked by reporters about the meeting on Friday, Trump said: "We don't want to have a potential war with China, but I can tell you if we did, we're very well equipped to handle it. But I don't want to show [the plan] to anybody." He nodded to concerns about Musk's visit to the Pentagon, which is drawing scrutiny over potential conflicts of interest, saying "you wouldn't show it to a businessman". "Elon has businesses in China, and he would be susceptible perhaps to that," Trump said. Tesla, Musk's electric vehicle company, has two facilities in Shanghai, China. Starlink and SpaceX, two of Musk's companies, also have contracts with the Pentagon. Since Trump returned to the White House, Musk, as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), has been leading a cost-cutting task force to aggressively curtail government spending through funding cuts and firings. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c0mw7wr0gp9o
