  1. Tens of thousands of people across Turkey have been protesting the arrest of Istanbul mayor Ekrem Imamoglu - the main political rival of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Protesters have been fired upon with tear gas and rubber bullets in what has become the worst unrest in the country for more than a decade. Demonstrations began in Istanbul on 19 March, sparked by the arrest of leading opposition politician Ekrem Imamoglu earlier the same day. It came days before Imamoglu was due to be elected as presidential candidate for the secular Republican People's Party (CHP). He was confirmed as the party's candidate for the 2028 election from his prison cell on Sunday, following a symbolic vote. Prosecutors accuse Imamoglu of corruption, which he denies. More than 100 people have also been detained as part of the investigation. He was formally arrested on Sunday and charged with "establishing and managing a criminal organisation, taking bribes, extortion, unlawfully recording personal data and rigging a tender". He has also been suspended from his post as mayor of Istanbul. His CHP party said the arrest represented a "coup against our next president" and called for supporters to take to the streets in protest. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czrnzdkp68eo

    [Animals] Lion

The lion (Panthera leo ) is a large cat of the genus Panthera native to Africa and India. It is the most widely recognized animal symbol in human culture and it has been extensively depicted in sculptures and paintings, on national flags, and in contemporary films and literature. Cultural depictions of lions were prominent in Ancient Egypt, and depictions have occurred in virtually all ancient and medieval cultures in the lion's historic and current range. https://animalia.bio/african-lion?category=1
  3. California says that the number of public EV chargers in the state has officially exceeded the number of gas pumps in the state. A release from California Gov. Gavin Newsome's office says the state now has 178,549 public and shared private EV chargers compared with 120,000 gas pumps. The vast majority of those chargers are Level 2 chargers, though there are roughly 17,000 fast-chargers spread throughout the Golden State. It's no secret that California is leading the charge toward electrifying American roads. It's the state that birthed Tesla, Rivian, and Lucid Motors, after all. Now, according to a new memo released by the governor's office, California's EV chargers outnumber the state's gas pumps by a considerable margin. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a64272691/california-more-ev-plugs-than-gas-pumps/
  4. "It is good, because I learn about my team and my team learn about me," said Thomas Tuchel after his England reign started with routine World Cup qualifying wins over Albania and Latvia. "We will get there." Some players played their way into Tuchel's thinking, while some may have played their way out of the team. Myles Lewis-Skelly, Reece James and Eberechi Eze all got their first England goals - while Harry Kane netted in both games. Lewis-Skelly and James both staked their claims at full-back - but things are less clear at centre-back or on the wings. Albania and Latvia were limited opponents who only briefly threatened to score at Wembley though. Former England goalkeeper and BBC Radio 5 Live pundit Rob Green said: "Tuchel on reflection will turn around and say 'how much could I expect from these two games?' "It's been the bare minimum. Still a lot of question marks." Tuchel added to the BBC: "These qualifiers bring a bit of tension, what happens when the going gets tough, how will the players react? It is important to get better. "I will always fight for them because they have been great in training. Some players played out of position. Taking this into account, overall I am very positive." 5. The Duchess of Sussex has launched a new digital shop, allowing fans to purchase her favourite clothing, accessories and jewellery recommendations. Meghan, who described her 'high-low' style approach to mixing designer and accessible fashion during an episode of her recent Netflix series, shared the ShopMy link to her 2.6 million Instagram followers on Monday. She included the disclaimer that she would receive a sales commission on some products purchased through the affiliate links she shared. The ShopMy platform is marketed at "elite creators" as a way for them to earn revenue if someone purchases an item through a link they have shared - with commission as high as 30%.Meghan described the pieces in the online shop as a "handpicked and curated collection of the things I love", adding she had long been asked to share her wardrobe inspiration.Outfits the Duchess has been pictured in previously have been known to sell out in minutes - a white coat by the Canadian brand Line the Label which she wore to announce her engagement to Prince Harry in November 2017 was reportedly so in demand it crashed the clothing brand's website.A month later she was photographed carrying a £500 ($675) midi tote bag made by Strathberry, which led to the item selling out in 11 minutes flat across its global, US and China website. The 32 piece collection unveiled on Monday revealed a capsule wardrobe of neutral staples in muted colours - white, beige, light blue and black - and natural fabrics like linen and cashmere.Items included the "perfect" white cotton t-shirt, a striped blue "boyfriend" shirt and white linen trousers, as well as more formal items such as a black wool blazer and a full-length, ivory-coloured evening dress. The majority of the products are from upscale high-street brands, including Theory, Reformation, Polene, Madewell, J Crew, but they also include luxury and budget options. A trench coat she linked to is a £99 Uniqlo option, while a pair of brown leather slip-on sandals from Saint Laurent retail for £595.According to ShopMy, commissions earned from the platform typically from 10 to 30% "depending on the brand or retailer". The platform also allows creators to "discover and manage paid collaboration opportunities" with over 47,000 brands. The duchess's latest venture comes just weeks after the debut of her glossy Netflix lifestyle show which portrays her life at home, lunches with friends and various gardening and cooking activities.Last year she also launched a lifestyle brand, originally called American Riviera Orchard and now known as As Ever that aims to sell "beautifully crafted essentials" like artisan preserve and tea.Fashion, lifestyle and product recommendations are all areas the duchess has explored before. Meghan set up and ran her own lifestyle blog called The Tig for almost three years before closing it in April 2017 - just months before her engagement to Prince Harry was announced. On The Tig, Meghan shared beauty, diet and fashion tips, recipes, travel advice, and words of wisdom about love and life. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cy5n6y2975wo
  6. Russia has launched a missile strike targeting north-eastern Ukraine as US and Russian officials met to push for a pause in the war. After Monday's attack, which injured dozens in the city of Sumy, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Russia must end strikes instead of "making hollow statements about peace". The latest round of talks between the US and Russia concluded on Monday in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. Top of the agenda was reportedly the revival of a 2022 grain deal allowing Kyiv to export across the Black Sea. In return, Moscow is said to be seeking relief from Western sanctions, enabling it to export fertilisers. The Russia-US talks went on for 12 hours. Russian news agencies said a joint statement would be released on Tuesday. But optimistic US ambitions for ending this war have had a head-on collision with reality. Finding common ground for even a partial ceasefire is proving a highly complex task. This is not something that can be solved quickly. So in the current talks, the aim has been to come up with a kind of "ceasefire light", focusing on the Black Sea.Russia stopped giving safe passage to cargo ships going to and from Ukraine in mid-2023, when it pulled out of the Black Sea grain deal complaining that sanctions were still in place. The Ukrainian delegation is in the same building - but there are no plans for the warring sides to meet. The Ukrainians remained there after meeting American counterparts on Sunday evening.Kyiv described talks as "productive and focused", while US President Donald Trump's special envoy said separate discussions with Ukrainian and Russian teams would bring about "some real progress" to ending the war. Both Russia and Ukraine have continued fighting despite the ongoing talks looking to bring a halt to hostilities across the vast front line.Ukrainian officials say 65 people, including 14 children, were injured in Monday's attack on Sumy. The city has long been the subject of Russian strikes - it lies just over the border from the Kursk region of Russia occupied by Ukraine last year. But Monday's missile strike was exceptional. The authorities said a school, hospital and apartment blocks were damaged. Scores were injured - including children.Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said the attack showed Russia was "once again showing that it wants to continue the terror"."The international community must increase the pressure on Russia to stop the aggression and ensure justice and save the lives of Ukrainians," he wrote on X.Sumy borders Russia's Kursk region, parts of which have been occupied by Ukrainian troops to strengthen Kyiv's hand in any negotiations, though they have been forced back in recent weeks.Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of not abiding by last week's deal for a 30-day ceasefire during which the warring parties would refrain from targeting infrastructure facilities.Russia's defence ministry said Ukraine launched a drone attack against the Kropotkinskaya oil pumping station in Krasnodar, southern Russia, at 02:00 local time on Monday (23:00 GMT on Sunday), according to Russian state media. The defence ministry said it had shot down overnight 227 Ukrainian drones in several Russian regions.Meanwhile, a Russian air strike injured a 37-year-old man in Ukraine's Kyiv region, according to local authorities.Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, and Moscow currently controls about 20% of Ukrainian territory. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cm2n7jzxy72o
