At least 13 people have died after a crash between a passenger ferry and a navy speedboat threw dozens into the sea near a po[CENSORED]r tourist destination in Mumbai, India, according to a local official. Devendra Fadnavis, chief minister of Maharashtra state, told reporters Wednesday the collision happened as the passenger ferry Neelkamal headed to the Elephanta Caves. The caves, on an island in the Sea of Oman and a short ferry ride from Mumbai, are one of the city’s most po[CENSORED]r tourist destinations, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Video footage from the Indian Coast Guard filmed after the incident shows a large-scale rescue operation with dozens of people, some wearing life jackets, being brought to safety aboard other vessels by emergency services. By Wednesday evening local time, 101 people had been rescued by the navy, coast guard and police, Fadnavis said, with 11 navy craft and four helicopters part of that mission. Of the 13 people killed, 10 were civilians and three were navy personnel, he said. Two others remain in critical condition and have been admitted to hospital, he added. Fadnavis added that the families of the deceased would be given 500,000 rupees (approximately $5,890). “My tributes to the deceased. We stand in full solidarity with the grieving families during this difficult time,” Fadnavis said. A police official told CNN an investigation is underway, including into all those on the speedboat. Preliminary reports suggested the naval speedboat had suffered an engine failure, according to the official. Search and rescue efforts are continuing, Fadnavis said, adding that further information will be provided to the public on Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his condolences to the bereaved families, saying on Wednesday that his office’s national relief fund would provide about $2,400 to victims’ next of kin while those injured would be given about $590. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/12/18/asia/elephanta-caves-navy-boat-collision-mumbai-intl-latam/index.html

Former basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal had a Lucid Air sedan turned into a coupe. West Coast Customs, known for building wildly modified cars, performed the work that kept the two-door Air looking mostly stock. Some unique details on Shaq's car include aftermarket wheels and a front trim piece that says "Diesel" instead of "Lucid" in reference to his nickname. The Lucid Air sedan, for the record, has 45.4 inches of front legroom. That's plenty for most people, but at 7'1" tall and 325 pounds, basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal is not most people. As Shaq recently noted on his Instagram account, he needed a bit of help to fit comfortably inside his new luxury electric car. So, he turned to West Coast Customs to convert his Lucid Air from a four-door sedan into a two-door coupe. West Coast Customs has plenty of experience with drastically changing the body style of a vehicle. Just a couple of months ago it built a Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT minivan for Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife. For that project, they extended the frame and fitted the Porsche with electric sliding doors. The approach was different with the Lucid, but the end goal was the same—more room. The custom Lucid boasts many of the typical Shaq touches. There are Superman logos on the wheel center caps, and the Air is painted in the same color as his Rolls-Royce Cullinan. However, the most humorous and ironic touch on the car is on the front trim piece. The word "Lucid" has been replaced with "Diesel," which is a reference to Shaq's DJ stage name. Of course, diesel is also a type of combustion engine that could not be more different from the Lucid Air's electric powertrain. It might raise some eyebrows for the few people who don't know the former NBA big man, and it could cause some to believe the car belongs to a certain Fast & Furious star. The overall look of the modified Lucid is understated, especially for a shop that was known for the wild builds of MTV's Pimp My Ride. Aside from the giant wheels with tires that have the sidewall of a rubber band, the car, at least from a distance, looks like it could have rolled out of the Lucid factory. As far as we know, Lucid has no plans to release a coupe version of the Air; perhaps they'll reconsider after seeing how well the design lends itself to the body style. It's not clear which model Lucid Air Shaq had modified, as it's difficult to distinguish the Pure, the Touring, the Grand Touring, and the Sapphire. It's likely a dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant, the least powerful of which still packs 620 horsepower and accelerated to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds in Car and Driver testing. Needless to say, Shaq should have plenty of performance—as well as plenty of space—in his new car. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a63229290/2025-lucid-air-coupe-shaq-west-coast-customs/

As the ink was drying on one of the world's biggest trade deals, signed in Uruguay this month, and hailed as a milestone for the global economy, anger was brewing thousands of miles away in France. Under the agreement between the EU on one hand, and Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay on the other, tariffs will be greatly reduced and the amounts of imports and exports allowed will be increased. The deal would affect almost 800 million people. It comes as a marked contrast to Donald Trump's plans to greatly increase protectionism when he returns to the White House next month. The deal still needs to be approved by the 27 EU member states, and France is planning to block it, due to fears that it will harm its farming sector. Alix Heurtault, a 34-year-old French farmer, says she is worried about her future if the planned agreement goes ahead. "I fear that the deal will mean making ends meet becoming even more difficult for farmers like me," she says. As a result, she is crossing her fingers that the French government will be able to stop it. The planned trade agreement will mean more South American beef, chicken and sugar coming to the EU, and at lower prices. While in the opposite direction, the likes of European cars, clothing and wine would have more access to the Mercosur zone. For France to block the deal it will need to persuade at least three other EU countries, representing at least 35% of the total po[CENSORED]tion to join it. Ireland, Poland and Austria are also opposed, but Italy will likely need to also come on board to achieve the required po[CENSORED]tion quota. And with the media giving very conflicting reports about Italy's position, we'll have to wait and see which way the Italians go when the vote is held some time in 2025. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c75w43xv3w0o

The Killer whale (Orcinus orca) is a toothed whale belonging to the oceanic dolphin family. It is the largest member of this family. The sophisticated hunting techniques and vocal behaviors of Killer whales have been described as manifestations of animal culture. They feature strongly in the mythologies of indigenous cultures, and their reputation in different cultures ranges from being the souls of humans to merciless killers.Killer whales have long, round bodies with big dorsal fins in the middle of their back. Their bodies are black with white patches underneath and near their eyes. These distinctive patterns help to camouflage them when they are searching for food. In newborns, the white parts of their bodies have an orange tinge. https://animalia.bio/killer-whale?custom_list=280

Farhad Moshiri says the end of his Everton ownership has left him with "mixed emotions" and that he wonders where the club might have been had Carlo Ancelotti remained at Goodison Park. The British-Iranian businessman's tenure in charge of the Toffees came to an end on Thursday after he sold his stake in the club to the Friedkin Group in a deal believed to be worth in excess of £400m. The takeover has prompted Everton fan groups to look forward with "hope and optimism" after a particularly chaotic period under Mosihiri. The club were beset by a difficult relationship with fans, managerial upheaval, relegation battles, boardroom collapse, Premier League points deductions, and a financial crisis that pushed Everton to the brink. In an open letter to supporters Moshiri acknowledged a sense of "sorrow when reflecting on the past" after a "challenging" time on Merseyside but said he leaves the club "in a materially better place" than the one he inherited. "I fully understand that in football that results on the pitch are paramount and over those same years they frankly haven't been good enough," Moshiri wrote. "We brought top-class managers like Carlo Ancelotti to the club and who knows where we might have been had he not been lured back to his first love Real Madrid." Moshiri said in the letter, external that leaving Everton with an "iconic stadium" for "all Evertonians, and the wider community, to enjoy for decades and decades to come" was something he would "feel real pride in". "When I purchased the club eight years ago, I knew it needed to be modernised, both with a new stadium and also at the training ground, which has seen much investment," he added. "I have met the huge costs of those improvements through my ownership, with season ticket prices remaining pretty well the same across my ownership period. "I have tried to minimise the impact on fans with our tickets among the most affordable in the Premier League." A statement from the Everton Fan Advisory Board (Fab) said that apart from the development of the club's new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, the time under Moshiri was a trying one. "Our recent history has been clouded by relegation battles, financial uncertainty, failed ownership bids, a leadership vacuum and unjust sporting sanctions," Fab said. "Today's announcement provides the opportunity for Evertonians to once again look forward with hope and optimism." Fab said it was "encouraged by the aims and ambitions" set out by the Friedkin Group following their takeover. "Providing clarity and communicating about the road ahead will be essential. We recognise that change will not come overnight," Fab added. "We look forward to hearing more about their plans in the coming weeks and months and working alongside them to help achieve their aims of embracing the passion, creativity and values of Evertonians." https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/crl3549lpjlo

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Russia should have launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine earlier and been better prepared for the war. In his end-of-year press conference on Thursday, Putin said, with hindsight, there should have been "systemic preparation" for the 2022 invasion, which he refers to as a "special military operation". Russia seized Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 and pro-Russian forces began a conflict in eastern Ukraine, but it was eight years later that Putin tried to seize Kyiv. During his four-hour long appearance, Putin also talked about Syria's deposed leader, Russia's more aggressive nuclear doctrine as well as domestic issues, like the price of butter. Billed as "Results of the Year with Vladimir Putin", the event was broadcast live across the main state TV channels on Thursday. Putin appeared in front of a large blue screen emblazoned with a map of the Russian Federation, complete with annexed parts of Ukraine. He took questions from members of the public, foreign journalists and pensioners - but it was a highly choreographed and tightly controlled affair. When asked by the BBC's Russia editor Steve Rosenberg whether he felt the country was in a better state than where his predecessor, Boris Yeltsin, had left it 25 years ago, Putin said Russia had regained its "sovereignty". "With everything that was happening to Russia before that, we were heading towards a complete, total loss of our sovereignty." https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cdjgzrkxp97o

For whatever reason it seems like the holiday season is also a major time for sporting events. Fortunately, if you can't be bothered to head out into the cold you can always get your baseball fix with Haegin's HomeRun Clash 2: Legends Derby and their newest update! And this one really is a doozy as you're not only getting Christmas-themed cosmetics to let your players embody the holiday cheer, but a whole new stadium and batter to boot. The Polar Stadium, themed after the extreme north and south of the world, features suitably wintry surroundings. Meanwhile, Luca Leone the fighter turned-batter brings in some amazing new skills. His Specialist ability, when charged, earns you extra points when you hit consecutive home runs! And you'll need that skill because the new Lightning Ball which travels in a zig-zag manner is going to be a major obstacle for any player to overcome. Speaking of, for the Christmas-themed cosmetics you'll find that Rikitaro and Lee A-Young will be receiving some suitably red-and-white coloured outfits. And the addition of SS rank equipment ensures that, alongside new Lightning Ball Defense and Lightning Ball Keep, you'll have the tools necessary to deal with some powerful new challenges. While HomeRun Clash 2 may be a bit more on the cartoony side, there's no denying that many of you seem to enjoy the simple pleasure that hitting a "homer" brings you. And for the Christmas period, the addition of themed cosmetics is good, but more content, stadiums and batters are better. Speaking of new additions, if you're looking to find something else to play this Christmas why not dig into our latest list of the top five new mobile games to try this week? We've got plenty of top launches, and a lot more besides, for you this holiday! https://www.pocketgamer.com/homerun-clash-2-legends-derby/new-update/

With IEMs and more portable headphones releasing every day, the market for portable sources has never been bigger. There's so much competition now, be it from wired-only DAC/amps to wireless ones to even standalone music players (DAPs). These come in a variety of sizes too, with some going large to have more room for specialized features, such as the xDuoo XD05T DAC with tube amplifiers we recently saw, or even the FiiO Q7 and Q15 that offer flagship desktop-class DACs in your hands. Most portable sources are much smaller though, and several have gone the Bluetooth route to allow a wireless connection to your phone or PC. FiiO has been involved in this from the beginning, with the BTR5 from a few years ago being a stepping stone for what was to come later. Today we take a closer look at the FiiO BTR17, which follows FiiO's new product naming scheme—it's the direct replacement for the older BTR7, and the next generation version will be called the BTR27 to help clarify things. I first saw this tiny thing at FiiO's booth in the Shenzhen International Audio Show this past September, before having the opportunity to spend more time with it when I visited FiiO's industrial park a few days later. The BTR17 comes in two color options—black and blue—with both being identical otherwise. It's a pocketable DAC/amp with several key features, including connecting to your phone wirelessly, having a desktop mode with more output power when powered simultaneously during use, the ability to use as a USB DAC/amp as needed, built-in EQ with the option to have custom EQ modes stored, and fantastic PEQ customization both via FiiO's mobile app and a recently developed desktop EQ configurator too. The BTR17 does feel quite feature-rich, so let's see how it fares in our review which begins with a look at the product specifications below, so be sure to click the images twice to fully open it and go through all the details. Thanks to FiiO for providing a review sample to TechPowerUp! https://www.techpowerup.com/review/fiio-btr17-portable-bluetooth-dac-and-headphones-amplifier/
