  1. Zoom has revealed its potential plan to boost the encryption of video calls made by its paying customers including businesses and schools. The video conferencing provider discussed its plans to offer improved encryption for premium users during a recent call with civil liberties groups and organizations fighting sexual abuse. In an interview with Reuters, security consultant at Zoom, Alex Stamos said the plan is subject to change and that at this time, it is still not clear whether nonprofits or other users that need additional security such as political dissidents may qualify for access to the company's premium accounts. Zoom will stop accepting new users in some markets Zoom picks Oracle Cloud to help meet surge in demand This is everything you need to know about Zoom During the pandemic, Zoom has attracted millions of free and paying customers as its video conferencing software allows users to join a meeting without registering first. However, this has also led to users of the service having their meetings disrupted through a practice known as 'Zoom-bombing' where hackers and pranksters join public and private meetings they have not been invited to. Increased encryption While businesses, schools and non-profit organizations can benefit greatly from the additional security that encryption brings, safety experts and law enforcement agencies have warned that sexual predators and other criminals are increasingly employing encrypted communications to help avoid being detected online. This could be one of the reasons why Zoom is planning to limit encryption to its paid users. The company recently released a whitepaper titled “E2E Encryption for Zoom Meetings” in which it laid out its encryption plans. These plans have not yet been finalized according to the whitepaper that explains that Zoom is has begun “a process of consultation with multiple stakeholders, including clients, cryptography experts, and civil society” on the matter of encryption. Following a series of security failures earlier this year that led some organizations to ban Zoom, the company hired Alex Stamos and other experts to help. Stamos provided further details to Reuters regarding how Zoom is improving its security, saying: “At the same time that Zoom is trying to improve security, they are also significantly upgrading their trust and safety. The CEO is looking at different arguments. The current plan is paid customers plus enterprise accounts where the company knows who they are.” If Zoom were to add full encryption to every meeting on its service, the company's trust and safety team would be unable to add itself as a participant which would make tackling abuse in real time far more difficult. At the same time, users who call into Zoom meetings from their telephones would be unable to do so if the company adopts an end-to-end model.
  2. For the next 10 hours, the LG 34CB99-W ultrawide curved monitor is on sale for $699.99 on Newegg. That’s $300, or 30%, off its usual price of $999.99. A productivity focused display, this monitor has a 34-inch 21:9 curved IPS screen with a 1440p (3440 x 1440) resolution. It connects over HDMI, DisplayPort or USB Type-C. USB-C means you can do video display, data transfer and mobile device charging over a single cable. The monitor also has a secondary USB 3.0 port for charging other devices. As an LG monitor, this display also includes LG’s Screen Split feature, which virtually mimics multiple physical monitors by splitting up the ultrawide screen into different windows. There are 14 options overall , including four options for picture-in-picture. Since this monitor is mostly meant for work, it unfortunately tops out at a 60 Hz refresh rate, meaning it won't be the best gaming monitor. But its ultrawide aspect ratio and 1440p resolution still make it an attractive choice for those looking for immersion over speed.
  3. (CNN Spanish) - "I have to work, but where do I eat from?" Says Victoria, a vegetable vendor after a person from the district municipality asks her to leave. "Madam, we do not want to get sick, neither you nor your children, please be kind to retire," he explains. Like Victoria, many Peruvians are more afraid of going out on the streets than the possibility of facing the virus in them. Peru has extended its quarantine up to 5 times in an effort to face the pandemic. The last time, the president, Martín Vizcarra, announced that he would extend it until June 30. By then, the po[CENSORED]tion will complete 107 of confinement. When President Vizcarra made the decision to implement the quarantine only 10 days had passed since the report of case zero in the country, the measure was taken more quickly than other countries, but Peru, after Brazil, has become the place with the highest number of infected by covid-19, why? According to the authorities, the number of tests carried out by the country, which already exceeds one million, influences the number of infected people detected. But, there are more reasons, and these are related to the characteristics of the Peruvian society and state. "The pandemic finds us with structural weakness as a country," says Pilar Mazzetti, head of the Covid Command, in charge of meeting the demand that the virus demands from the health system. MIRA: This awaits Peru in the pandemic for the next 15 days, according to chief of operations command covid-19 1. Informality More than 70% of the Peruvian working class is informal according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics. "Peru is one of the countries with the highest informality rate in Latin America," says Martín Tanaka, a researcher at the Institute of Peruvian Studies. Pilar Mazzetti knows that an important part of the po[CENSORED]tion "the day they work they have their expenses, the day they don't work, they don't have it." For the also former Minister of Health, the first part of the quarantine was effective but the same did not happen later "I am afraid that things did not go well and we have to be honest in recognizing it, why? Because it was already very difficult for the po[CENSORED]tion to stay within such a rigid system, we all started to leave. " 2. The markets A third of urban households in Peru do not have a refrigerator according to the National Household Survey, so many families cannot keep food for a long time and must go to the market frequently. These places have been sources of contagion; in some markets where the Ministry of Health carried out tests to detect covid-19, the number of infected merchants reached 85.9%. But Pilar Mazzetti makes a point: "There are activities that open up, but it is we, the citizens, who carry out these activities and generate turmoil." During quarantine, one member of each family is allowed to go to the market, banks and pharmacies. Overcrowding in homes is another factor to consider. According to the 2019 National Household Survey, 11.8% of poor households in Peru occupy overcrowded housing. “We have homes where we enter to carry out tests and there are 10,11,12 people living in a house. That makes us also have a lot of difficulty because if one person is positive, other people will quickly be positive, "says Pilar Mazzetti. 3. The banks According to the Minister of Economy, Maria Antonieta Alva, Peru has implemented the most aggressive economic plan in the region to face the pandemic that reaches 17% of GDP. The government announced bonds for 6.8 of the more than 9 million families in the country. Many of these people, who do not have a bank account, had to go to them in long lines to collect the money assigned by the State. 4. Transportation Pilar Mazzetti and Martin Tanaka agree that public transport became another focus of contagion, despite the authorities' recommendation to maintain social distance. “A citizen must be responsible and I do believe that it is one of the things that we lack the most, when we have a State, it is not necessarily as solid as we would like and, at the same time, we citizens contribute to a disorder, I think which is a bad combination, "says Mazzetti. Martin Tanaka adds that "the po[CENSORED]tion is used to acting without following the rules, procedures and protocols that come from the State."
  4. Game Informations : Developer: Jeff Gerstmann Platforms: Computer Initial release date: April 28, 2000 at 9:14PM PDT Cruis'n World is an arcade translation and the sequel to one of the first N64 games to hit shelves, Cruis'n USA. As you might imagine, no longer are you confined to the continental US in your races. Now you take your car around the world, visiting exotic locales like China, Russia, Germany, and France. Some improvements have been made over the previous game, but it's the same game at heart. The graphics have moved forward, resulting in a reasonably manageable amount of pop-up, even in the four-player split-screen mode. The music and sound are significantly better than the original (which probably still is the low-water mark for music on the N64), but most of the tracks still come across in an incredibly annoying way. Cruis'n World has a few different modes. In the standard arcade mode, you can just pick one track and race, or you can cruise the world one track at a time. In championship mode, you race over just a few tracks, but you do multiple laps on each track. Beating this mode is the key to unlocking the game's additional cars. A practice mode allows you to take on the tracks all alone, with no traffic to stand in your way, but since the game's difficulty comes from the opposing racers and not the track on its own, this mode isn't terribly useful or interesting. Multiplayer allows up to four players to select cars and race the tracks against each other. All in all, Cruis'n World isn't a bad game, but it certainly isn't very good, either. Most of the time spent with this game will be centered around driving in first place, only to have it robbed from you by the CPU-controlled cars at the very last second. There's no room for error in your driving if you want to win, and that's perhaps what makes this such an annoying game. Rent this one, but it really isn't worth purchasing. System requirements: PC compatible Operating systems: Windows 10/Windows 8/Windows 7/2000/Vista/WinXP

  7. If you resort to deleting apps when your phone's storage space is full, researchers have a solution. New software "streams" data and code resources to an app from a cloud server when necessary, allowing the app to use only the space it needs on a phone at any given time. "It's like how Netflix movies aren't actually stored on a computer. They are streamed to you as you are watching them," said Saurabh Bagchi, a Purdue University professor of electrical and computer engineering, and computer science, and director of the Center for Resilient Infrastructures, Systems and Processes. "Here the application components, like heavy video or graphics or code paths, are streaming instantly despite the errors and slowdowns that are possible on a cellular network." Bagchi's team showed in a study how the software, called "AppStreamer," cuts down storage requirements by at least 85% for po[CENSORED]r gaming apps on an Android. The software seamlessly shuffles data between an app and a cloud server without stalling the game. Most study participants didn't notice any differences in their gaming experience while the app used AppStreamer. Since AppStreamer works for these storage-hungry gaming apps, it could work for other apps that usually take up far less space, Bagchi said. The software also allows the app itself to download faster to a phone. The researchers will present their findings Feb. 18 at the 17th International Conference on Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks in Lyon, France. Conference organizers have selected this study as one of three top papers. AppStreamer is a type of software known as middleware, located between the apps on a device and the operating system. The middleware automatically predicts when to fetch data from a cloud server. AT&T Labs Research provided data from cellular networks for this study to help evaluate which bandwidths AppStreamer would use and how much energy it would consume. AppStreamer could help phones better accommodate 5G connectivity -- high-speed wireless cellular networks that would allow devices to download movies in seconds and handle other data-heavy tasks much faster than the 4G networks currently available to most phones. Using AppStreamer on a 5G network would mean that an app downloads instantly, runs faster and takes up minimal space on a phone. The researchers also designed AppStreamer to use "edge computing," which stores and sends data from edge servers. These servers, located in spots such as cellphone towers, are closer to a device compared to the cloud. The shorter distance reduces data download time. Bagchi's lab researches ways to make edge computing more reliable. Bagchi wrote on those challenges in an article recently published in Communications of the ACM. The researchers believe that AppStreamer could be good for more than just phones. In order for self-driving cars to respond to their surroundings more safely, they would need to reliably pull data from servers in milliseconds. Middleware such as AppStreamer could eventually supply this functionality through edge computing on a 5G network. This research was supported by AT&T and the National Science Foundation (grant numbers CNS-1409506 and CNS-1527262).
  8. For the past 13 years, Ali Ibrahim has worked at AMD as a Senior Fellow, working on cloud and Xbox related projects, among other things. Now, Ibrahim has been poached by Intel, where he has become VP of Platform Architecture and Engineering of discrete GPUs department, as reported by CRN. "We are thrilled that Ali has joined Intel as Vice President, Platform Architecture and Engineering – dGPUs to be part of the exciting Intel Xe Graphics journey," a spokesperson told CRN. Intel's poaching of AMD's executives started in 2017, when Intel hired AMD's Raja Koduri at the start of Intel's plans for discrete graphics—though at that time we didn't know exactly what Intel was cooking. Now, it's no longer a secret that Intel has been building its own discrete graphics card, but they're not directly aimed at competing with AMD and Nvidia in the gaming segment—rather, the Xe GPUs are expected to be targeted at scientific and data center use. Here is all we know about Xe Graphics so far. Next to Koduri and Ibrahim, Intel has also poached Masooma Bhaiwala for the discrete graphics projects, Jim Keller, Mark Hirsch, Balaji Kanigicherla, and Joseph Facca But, AMD also fired back by hiring Intel's Daniel McNamara to help grow AMD's Epyc business.
  9. EV charging times are likely to tumble soon and industry sources predict that in five years it should be possible to ultra-rapid-charge even a high-capacity EV battery en route in under 10 minutes. But this will be a story of two parts, the first being the introduction of high-power charging and the second improvements to the way batteries are designed (rather than any new miracle chemistry). Most EVs today are equipped with 400V electrical systems, which are rated by the industry as high-voltage systems. Electrical power is measured in watts and the power in watts is worked out by multiplying the voltage by the current in amperes. To increase the power in watts that an EV system can deliver, or the charge it can accept, either the voltage or the current (amperage) needs to be increased. The problem with using a higher current is that it requires bigger, heavier cables with thicker insulation and it generates more heat, so the alternative is to increase the voltage instead, hence the introduction of 800V electrical architecture by Porsche. Increasing the system’s power allows both higher performance and faster charging. Most public rapid chargers can replenish at up to 50kW DC but ultra-rapid chargers delivering up to 150kW and a handful of 800V, ultra-rapid chargers capable of 350kW from Ionity began to appear last year. The Porsche Taycan is the first to be able to take advantage of the 350kW chargers thanks to its 800V electrical architecture. According to Porsche, taking a Taycan battery from 5% to 80% charge at one of the new Ionity chargers takes a tad over 20 minutes. Even then, the Porsche isn’t using the full capacity of the charger, drawing power at a peak of 270kW. But charge speed isn’t just about charger power: it’s also governed by how fast the battery cells can accept charge, and that’s the other part of the story. The best is yet to come as battery design catches up with EV electrical and charging systems. The logic behind charging at such a high rate is to achieve some parity with conventionally fuelled cars in highway driving over distances, so 800V technology is about convenience as well as performance. Compare average EV journey times using 50kW rapid chargers with those of conventional cars on a 450-mile trip at motorway cruising speeds and there’s a big gap. A conventional car may be stopping for a splash and dash, but Porsche estimates the EV making two much lengthier refuelling stops will take around 45% longer, compared with around 10% longer at close to 350kW. Put another way, an EV with a large battery capacity charging at close to 350kW and 800V could take on enough charge to cover 125 miles in a mere eight minutes. Ionity was set up by a group of major car makers so it’s fair to assume 800V systems will eventually appear in EVs further down the food chain than the Taycan. When that happens, the difference in ‘refuelling’ times between a family EV and a conventional car could become insignificant. General Motors’ sell-out 2020 Corvette Stingray is equipped with an eight-speed Tremec dual-clutch transmission designed especially for the job. The gearbox has a low first gear for quick getaways, gears two to six are close ratio and seven and eight are taller for cruising. Algorithms in the 32-bit controller adapt to the driver’s style.

  11. Game Informations : Developer: Jeff Gerstmann Platforms: Computer Initial release date: April 04,1993 at 9:14PM PDT The Destruction Derby series is one of the lines of games that helped define the PlayStation in its youth. In its day, DD looked great and did the little things that we all hoped the newest and greatest platform would do. DD2 was highly anticipated, but it ultimately failed to truly expand on the original. Now, THQ has picked up the pieces that Psygnosis left behind by delivering the first N64 version of the game in Destruction Derby 64. While the game bears the same name and concept as the old PlayStation versions of the game, there's been a lot of changes, for better and worse. The game's damage system used to revolve around the distance you could make the other car spin. Head-on impacts with enemy cars did little to boost your score. Now, the scoring is centered on causing big wrecks, killing opposing cars, and reaching checkpoints in the racing mode. The world championship puts you through demolition races and arena battles in a multirace quest for the best. Much like in the previous games, the race modes will force you to get into a lot of wrecks to earn points, but it will also require you to keep your car in good enough shape to actually finish the race with a decent ranking. Arcade mode is the game's exhibition mode, letting you race any track with no strings attached. The game also has multiplayer-specific modes. Deathmatch is a simple arena battle. Bomb tag is a version of hot potato. The bomb is passed from car to car as you tag back and forth. Capture the flag splits four players into two teams. You must somehow manage to get your opponents' flag back to your base to earn points. Points are also earned for blocking attacks and getting your team's flag back. Destruction race takes place on the racetrack, and it's a simple fight to the finish line. Graphically, Destruction Derby 64 surpasses the old PlayStation games by quite a bit - not that that is a particularly hard thing to do, considering the age of the PlayStation series. My favorite graphical effect is when sparks shoot off your car during a collision. Beyond that, the game moves well, and the split screen doesn't detract too much from the game's presentation. The audio effects are pretty much what you'd expect from a Destruction Derby game, complete with some pretty good sounds of metal grinding against metal. The control is still extremely simple - you use one button for forward motion and one for reverse. But rather than using a slow, swinging camera angle for direction changes, the game has a Z trigger, which is used for quick view changes, letting you see what's going on behind you at a moment's notice. It takes a bit of getting used to, and you have to hold the trigger down anytime you want to look behind you, but it works pretty well. Destruction Derby 64 is a better game than its PlayStation counterparts, but overall, it's still roughly the same in its one-player mode. The meat of the game is in its multiplayer modes, and DD64 should make a fine party game for you and your friends. Give it a rent next time you're rounding up the posse for a day of gaming. System requirements: PC compatible Operating systems: Windows 10/Windows 8/Windows 7/2000/Vista/WinXP

  14. New research from ExpressVPN has revealed that while many Americans distrust contact tracing apps, they are still willing to use them for the greater good during the global pandemic. The VPN provider surveyed 1,200 American adults to find that 75 percent of respondents believe that contact tracing apps violate a person's privacy and 77 percent think these apps put them are at risk of long term mass surveillance. However, Americans do realize that these uncertain times require complex, out-of-the-box solutions. Despite the potential loss of privacy as a result of contact tracing apps, 59 percent of those surveyed did indicate a willingness to forgo some of their rights for the sake of public health. Billions of phones can't run Google and Apple contact-tracing apps What are contact-tracing apps and how will they help you? Contact-tracing apps from Apple and Google 'will not collect location data' Vice president of ExpressVPN, Harold Li provided further insight on the survey's findings in a blog post, saying: “It’s clear that most Americans are invested in the public-health benefits of using contact-tracing technology. However, privacy concerns continue to weigh heavily, and it’s clear that governments and tech companies need to place clear limits and safeguards on contact-tracing efforts,” Contact tracing apps Google and Apple have developed a contact tracing API which use Bluetooth and GPS data to provide a low-cost solution to find out who those infected with Covid-19 have come into contact with. Contact tracing is not a new idea and in the past, it has been done manually but this requires a lot more work as well as time. Singapore, South Korea, Iceland and Israel are all currently using contact tracing apps to fight the spread of Covid-19 while Australia and the UK are in the process of creating localized versions of these apps for their residents. However, states such as New York, California and Massachusetts have eschewed contact tracing apps and have instead decided to take an analog approach. These states have hired tens of thousands of people to act as manual contact tracers and doctors and public health officials across the US are urging the federal government to follow suit. They argue that manual contact tracing has been practiced for decades and the current situation is too dire to use an untested tech-based approach. Over half (54%) of ExpressVPN survey respondents expressed willingness to voluntarily download a contact tracing app, though concerns about potential data misuse are still high. Of those surveyed, 84 percent believe the government could overstep its boundaries with the data and 79 percent believe that tech giants could as well. Contact tracing will soon be coming to your iPhone or Android smartphone. In fact, Apple's latest iOS 13.5 update includes a new feature called Exposure Notifications that contains the API needed for contact tracing apps to function. The update also makes it easier to use Apple's Face ID when wearing a face mask so that users don't have to remove them to unlock their phones.
  15. The best gaming laptops come in all shapes and sizes, for different needs and budgets. Because while a tricked out $5,000-plus model with the highest-end graphics and best display might give you the best gaming laptop experience, most of us can't afford a rig like that. And even if we could, it wouldn't be the best gaming laptop for those who travel frequently with their PC. Thankfully, there are more gaming laptop options now than ever, from budget-friendly to VR-ready. Some come with full-size Nvidia GeForce GTX or RTX graphics cards, while others go for the more efficient Max-Q designs that enable thinner chassis and (sometimes) quieter fans. While many of the best gaming laptops come with a 1080p display and high refresh rates, some include 4K screens. To help you find the best gaming laptop today, we've compiled a list of the best models we've tested and reviewed recently. For much more on how to narrow down your list of best gaming laptop considerations, check out our best gaming laptop buyer’s guide. But here are a few quick tips to get you started down the road to the right portable gaming rig for you. While many gamers may go to desktops to get the most performance for their money, try lugging a tower, monitor and keyboard around in your backpack. When you need a powerful rig you can take with you, there's no substitute for a gaming laptop. Best gaming laptops at a glance: 1. MSI GE65 Raider 2. Dell G3 15 (2019) 3. Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 4. Alienware Area-51m 5. Asus ROG Strix Hero II Quick Shopping Tips Focus on the GPU: Most games are dependent on the GPU, and those aren’t upgradeable. If you splurge on a powerful GPU now, you’ll be gaming comfortably for a few years. Choose higher resolution or faster speeds: 4K displays are pretty, but the fastest 240Hz and 360Hz displays are mostly limited to 1920 x 1080 screens. Just keep in mind that unless you're playing older, non-demanding titles like CS:GO, you'll need a very powerful GPU in your system to run games at high settings and frame rates. You can upgrade some parts later: While CPUs and GPUs are almost always soldered down, most gaming laptops let you replace the RAM and storage, so you can buy cheaper now and add more memory and a bigger hard drive or SSD down the road. Get a good keyboard: You don’t want to play your games on something mushy or stiff. Battery life will probably be bad: Very few gaming notebooks get 8 hours or more on a charge, and you need the power supply to get the best gaming performance anyway. However, we've seen some strong times from AMD's Ryzen 4000 processors, and Nvidia suggests its improved Optimus technology may help turn the tide.
  16. The President of the Republic, Martín Vizcarra, asked the po[CENSORED]tion not to worry after reporting a new daily record of coronavirus infections. The president indicated that this is expected with the largest number of tests that are being carried out. "Only 48,000 tests have been carried out yesterday, the equivalent of all the tests carried out in the first month of the state of emergency," Vizcarra said today at a press conference. Vizcarra reported that the number of positive cases for coronavirus in Peru rose to 155,671, an increase of 7,386 new cases compared to the previous day, thereby marking a new daily record number. He added that the government has never given messages of triumphalism. "We have had three months when the curve goes up," so the road is still long. "A pandemic is overcome in 6 to 8 months, we are at 50%." A million tests The President also announced that more than a million Peruvian citizens have already undergone a test, between rapid and molecular, of coronavirus (COVID-19). "After a great effort, yesterday we passed the million Peruvians who have passed the COVID-19 discard test. More than a million, we are 32 million Peruvians living in Peru and 1,012,708 have already passed the test, "he said at a press conference. The head of state stressed that the objective set by his management weeks ago has been exceeded, when he pointed out that they aimed to carry out 12,000 discard tests per day. “Yesterday we did 48,000 tests, that is, four times more than the ones we set for ourselves a few weeks ago. We are averaging 30,000 tests per day, "he said.
  17. Game Informations : Developer: Joe Fielder Platforms: Computer Initial release date: April 28, 1986 at 9:09PM PDT It's always frustrating to watch sequels make the same mistakes as their predecessors, but it happens often. Instances such as the weak camera from the original Croc showing up again in Croc 2 are surprisingly common. That said, 3DO's BattleTanx: Global Assault is remarkable because its developers clearly listened to all the complaints lodged against the first title and systematically corrected those problems in part two. While the end result isn't necessarily a flawless game, it's a title much improved over BattleTanx and far easier to recommend. The premise of BattleTanx new and old was inspired by the plots from at least several apocalyptic '70s sci-fi films and novels. In this latest edition, you and your wife are safeguarding chieftains of a new civilization and have recently sired a child - a rarity in this future world, where most of the women have died due to a strange, if modestly generic plague. One of the other world leaders, a madwoman who controls most of Europe, has discovered that your son has telepathic powers (known as The Edge) similar to her own, and sets out to steal him from you before he develops fully. When her troops (they're all in tanks - everyone drives tanks in this game, just accept it) fail to kidnap him, she uses The Edge to take control of your forces, setting the three of you on the run. At that point, you pop into your trusty tank and fight the good fight once again. OK, so obviously, unlike other aspects of the game, the original BattleTanx storyline wasn't criticized enough to warrant an upgrade, but enhancements do abound here. To begin with, not only are there almost twice as many levels, but they feel less cookie-cutter than before and offer more variety. You might play a few simple search-and-destroy missions back to back, but then they're followed up by one in which you have to guard a convoy or free allies from a prison. Your tank's turning ability has also been significantly upgraded. While it once took forever to bring your turret to bear on an enemy, it now shifts quickly with the treads following only shortly thereafter. The graphics? They're prettier too. There are also new secondary weapons and power-ups, such as grenades, which can be thrown into fortified areas or bounced around corners to destroy heavy-gun emplacements; a plasma pulse that zooms around the screen until it finds a target; and a cloaking effect that renders you invisible after a Predator-style shimmer. And you're not the only one who gets to pick them up; you'll find the enemy tanks using them frequently, perhaps to your chagrin, but it at least adds to the game's challenge. No doubt about it though, the best weapon you have in your arsenal is The Edge, which initially only stuns opponents within close range, but then later allies them with you once your abilities have improved. The game's whole life system has changed as well. Instead of having a set number of lives, you acquire tank bucks, which are used to buy different tanks. The basic Abrams tanks cost a standard amount of money, with the beefy Goliaths running twice as much, and the small quick rides running about half the price. How you want to spend your cash is up to you. There are more tanks to choose from in the sequel as well - from the Inferno, which sports a flamethrower, to the Marksman, which equips a laser you can use to snipe from a distance. The multiplayer modes were the main attraction in the first title, but they seem to have fallen behind a little bit in the sequel. With frame rates getting faster and faster in the multiplayer sections of consoles games, the slow-moving tanks no longer seem to get the thematic break they once used to get. Even the fastest vehicle in this game has nothing on a basic grunt from Quake II's multiplayer. The variety of tanks, weapons, and stages helps out a lot throughout BT2's multiplayer deathmatch variations, but you'll skip over many of them for the Battlelord stages, where you must steal your opponents' queens and return them to your base, all the while defending your own matriarch. The two-player co-op mission, where you and a friend play the main game through a split-screen perspective, is also worth noting, and serves as a great addition to the series. It's true that the BattleTanx series' gameplay is essentially just a slower version of 989's Twisted Metal, yet it possesses a more strategic bent and a certain cheesy charm that, this time, is just enough to win you over. Playing BattleTanx: Global Assault will remind you of renting SNES and Genesis games that, while not scoring any high marks for technical merit, were simply fun to play. BT2's improvements over its forerunner, combined with its multiplayer options, nudge it out of the rental category and into that of a worthwhile buy. 19. From its launch in 2012 up until 2019, the Raspberry Pi wasn’t regarded as a serious PC replacement. Sure, you could play a few games, run office apps and surf the web with even the $5 Raspberry Pi Zero, but most people don’t want to do that with just 512MB or 1GB of RAM. When the Raspberry Pi 4 came out in June 2019, it changed the game by offering up to 4GB of RAM, more than enough for real multitasking and productivity. Now, the Raspberry Pi Foundation has upped the ante by releasing a Raspberry Pi 4 B with a generous 8GB of RAM. Launching today for $75, the Raspberry Pi 4 B (8GB) is identical to other Raspberry Pi 4 B models in every way, except for its RAM capacity. So what do you do with all that memory, and is spending $20 more than the price of the $55 4GB model worth it? The short answer is that, right now, the 8GB capacity makes the most sense for users with very specialized needs: running data-intensive server loads or using virtual machines. As our tests show, it’s pretty difficult to use more than 4GB of RAM on Raspberry Pi, even if you’re a heavy multitasker. As part of this announcement, the Raspberry Pi Foundation has decided to change its official operating system's name from Raspbian to Raspberry Pi OS. Up until now, Raspberry Pi OS has only been available in 32-bit form, which means that it can’t allow a single process to use more than 4GB of RAM, though it can use all 8GB when it is spread across multiple processes (each browser tab is a separate process, for example). However, the organization is working on a 64-bit version of Raspberry Pi OS, which is already available in public beta. A 64-bit operating system allows 64-bit apps that can use more than 4GB in a single process. It could also lead to more caching and better performance overall. “Once we have the 64-bit kernel and userland there's going to be a performance advantage. The RAM will turn directly into a performance advantage by improving filesystem performance,” Raspberry Pi CEO Eben Upton said. “Once you've been running your machine for a day every conceivable page that you might want off the drive is going to be in RAM.”
  20. Congressman Daniel Urresti, spokesman for Podemos Peru, assured that denying confidence to the Cabinet chaired by Vicente Zeballos in the midst of the new coronavirus pandemic was "the worst thing that could be done", which is why his caucus voted in favor of the ministerial team in the session that ended this morning. “We understand that there have been errors in the handling, because nobody is prepared to face this. We understand that they are doing their best and we understand, at least in my caucus, that denying him confidence and creating a crisis in the Cabinet was the worst thing that could be done at this time, "he said in News Expansion. After a long debate that lasted until dawn this Friday, the Plenary Session of the Congress approved the request for confidence from the President of the Council of Ministers with 89 votes in favor, 35 against and 4 abstentions. However, Urresti considered that the majority of the measures implemented by the Government benefit just 30% of the po[CENSORED]tion that is working formally, leaving aside the informal and independent workers. He also criticized officials who commit acts of corruption in a state of emergency, paralleling the crimes committed in the fight against terrorism. "He who killed with a rifle committed a serious crime, and he who caused deaths by corrupting himself, buying face masks that were useless, are also serious crimes," he sentenced. "Populist career" At another time, he accused both the government and Congress of being in a "populist race" thinking about next year's general election. "They are playing who is the best, who gives the most things to people, without caring much about the impact that this may have in the future," he complained.
  21. Game Informations : Developer: Nelson Taruc Platforms: Computer Initial release date: April 28, 2000 at 9:12PM PDT California Speed might sound like the new trendy drug of choice for Hollywood's swanky celebs, but it's merely Midway's translation of the arcade racing game from Atari Games. Still, "drug" might not be a too-far-off description for this game: Although it gets you juiced up with psychedelic, tripped-out track designs, its shallow gameplay and dated graphics quickly bring you back down to a catatonic stupor. Those of you addicted to simple arcade racers may still feel a "rush," but for the rest, this game's a bad trip. Clearly, the game's lone bright spot is its wild, colorful, over-the-top track designs. Whether driving up the Golden Gate Bridge, through shopping malls, or into UFOs, the tracks break from the plain-Jane race tracks very effectively. The tracks are also littered with pop-culture references (such as the Intel commercial drive-through in Silicon Valley), and scenic landmarks, such as the Hollywood sign and Pebble Beach. The game's connections to California will be most amusing to those of you who live in or have visited the areas featured in the tracks; if you are one of those people, this game's almost worth renting just to take the California Speed tour. The track layouts themselves contain a handful of secret shortcuts, which are easy to find by racing in practice mode. Since this game is, at its roots, a fast arcade racer, it's ridiculously easy to learn. There's a brake button (rarely used), accelerator button (always used), and gear shift buttons (can be used, but doing so doesn't offer any advantage). Although the various cars available handle differently, the basic arcade driving maxim is in full effect: Don't hit stuff, and stay fast. It makes for mindless, shallow gameplay that's fun at first, but boredom-inducing in large doses. To combat that malady, the game offers an incentive to play on. The game offers a series of cups to compete in, and beating each cup unlocks a new track or secret car. The problem with California Speed is that those same eleven tracks have to be raced over and over again to unlock these extras. The tracks' novelty value quickly wears thin, leaving you with an uninspiring series of races. Since the computer AI doesn't offer any semblance of intelligent racing opponents (all they do is go fast, like you), there isn't much driving strategy to employ other than using the too-few shortcuts - additional branching paths may have given the tracks more replay value. And while the car designs (such as the golf cart) are extremely wacky, the default cars handle similarly enough so that the overalldriving experience gets monotonous, regardless of selection. The Nintendo 64's limitations prevent an exact duplication of the game's arcade-level graphics, so the resulting visuals look just barely above average. While eye-catching in the days of the original San Francisco Rush, this game's graphics are on the verge of becoming dated. The animation, when driving fast, does get a little choppy, but it's not enough to hamper gameplay speed, which remains brisk at all times. As for the cheesy, bland audio tracks, there's thankfully an option to shut them off. If you worship the looks and gameplay style of Midway's Rush series, this game just makes the grade. But if you think arcade racers are as burned-out as a Hollywood has-been, or as shallow as a bubbly bimbo from Los Angeles, California Speed offers very little to change your mind.
