  1. Amazon will reimburse staff in the US who travel for a wide range of non-life threatening medical treatments including elective abortions. A message to Amazon staff said that the firm will pay up to $4,000 (£3,201) in travel expenses each year for treatments not available nearby. Several other companies have announced plans that ensure staff have access to abortions. It comes amid rising restrictions for the procedure nationwide. Amazon's new benefits are effective retroactively from 1 January. According to the announcement, first reported by Reuters, the new benefits will apply to treatments that are not available inside a 100-mile (161km) radius of an employee's home and for which virtual options are not available. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the benefit expansion to the BBC and said it also includes bariatric care, oncology, congenital anomalies from within 24 months of birth, mental health treatments and in-patient substance abuse disorder services. Amazon is one of the biggest private sector employers in the US, with 1.1m full and part-time workers in the country. It employs people nation-wide, with most workers in California, Texas, and Washington state - home to its global headquarters. The benefits will be available to all employees enrolled in two different health plans offered by the company, including those working in offices or in warehouses. The company also offers up to $10,000 (£8,002) for urgent, life-threatening medical issues. The ‘ranch’ for Texas mothers with no place to go While the expansion of benefits by Amazon is not aimed specifically at allowing access to abortions, it comes at a time when several Republican state governments have passed laws restricting abortion access in their jurisdictions. Next month, the conservative-leaning Supreme Court will also rule on a case that could overturn Roe v Wade, a 1973 court ruling that legalised abortion in the US. If the law is overturned, each US state could be permitted to determine its own abortion rules, with more than 20 states expected to limit abortion care or even ban abortions in most cases all together. In Texas - which has one of the strictest abortion laws in the country and bans the procedure after six weeks of a pregnancy - a recent study found that some 1,400 Texans were traveling out of state for abortions monthly. Companies including Yelp and Citigroup have recently said they will reimburse employees who travel to circumvent local abortion restrictions. Citigroup said the policy was "in response to changes in reproductive healthcare laws in certain states".
  2. Interactive tools that allow online media users to navigate, save and customize graphs and charts may help them make better sense of the deluge of data that is available online, according to a team of researchers. These tools may help users identify personally relevant information, and check on misinformation, they added. In a study advancing the concept of "news informatics," which provides news in the form of data rather than stories, the researchers reported that people found news sites that offered certain interactive tools—such as modality, message and source interactivity tools—to visualize and mani[CENSORED]te data were more engaging than ones without the tools. Modality interactivity includes tools to interact with the content, such as hyperlinks and zoom-ins, while message interactivity focuses on how the users exchange messages with the site. Source interactivity allows users to tailor the information to their individual needs and contribute their own content to the site. However, it was not the case that more is always better, according to S. Shyam Sundar, James P. Jimirro Professor of Media Effects in the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications and co-director of the Media Effects Research Laboratory at Penn State. The user's experience depended on how these tools were combined and how involved they are in the topic, he said. "These three interactivity types come together in interesting ways that were not seen in prior research," said Sundar, an affiliate of Penn State's Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS). "We found that the presence of these tools in certain combinations could be good for users, however, in other cases, combining these tools might not be preferrable." For example, the researchers found that the most engaging website featured a high level of modality tools and message interactivity, said Sundar. Together, they seemed to improve users' retention of information they reviewed on the site, according to the researchers. When the website featured an increased level of message interactivity along with the availability of more tools, the researchers found participants demonstrated an improved recall of visualized information. However, Sundar suggested that certain combinations of interactive tools could lower engagement. "Just adding a lot of tools to a big data visualization is not necessarily going to be a good thing for users," said Sundar. "For example, developers should take note that a site with high source interactivity, such as a blogging feature, is actually bad for the user when combined with high modality interactivity." According to the researchers, the modality interactivity tools affected user engagement by increasing the ability of participants to take in information—or perceptual bandwidth—as well as inducing feelings that the system was responsive and that they were in charge. "When, for example, you are sliding and zooming with these tools, the site engages us because we are absorbed in it and that expands our perceptual bandwidth," said Sundar. "In other words, we can absorb more from the site because you can do all these things. You can look around the site, you can slide over a section, or even zoom in and get a bigger picture. All of that expands how much one can perceive." Sundar said that the study is a first step in developing research around news informatics, which refers to the presentation and consumption of big data on online sites. "There is a humongous amount of data coming in all the time with all kinds of ways to look at different aspects of an event or phenomenon," said Sundar. "So, these data-driven sites can allow users to make sense of it, if they are equipped with the right kinds of interactive tools. What news informatics is basically trying to do is enable users to extract as much information and intelligence or knowledge from data in a way that is personally relevant to them." By encouraging people to explore big data on their own, interactive tools may help people better understand issues, explore data points that are relevant to them, and verify for themselves if the information is biased or false. "With most big data stories, journalists go in and extract meaning from that data," said Sundar. "They write the story on the points that they find interesting and they might put their own spin on it. The types of interactivities we are talking about here can help users find information that they find personally meaningful and that they care about. This is a case of genuine information need." However, not every news consumer will have such a need or be interested in exploring the data with such depth. "It is important for sites using 'news informatics' to balance the exploration and expression needs of highly involved users with the simpler needs of less involved users," Sundar said. The researchers recruited 166 participants, who were randomly assigned to interact with one of the 12 different websites—or experimental conditions—that featured various levels of tool combinations that could be used to explore an interactive visualization of public opinion about several world news events. To test modality interactivity, for example, the researchers added tools, such as clicking, dragging and mouse-overs, to the high condition while including fewer tools for the medium and low conditions. For high source interactivity, the site allowed the user more customization features, such as the ability to change colors and writing a blog post, while medium and low conditions offered fewer tools. The researchers tested message interactivity by the presence—or not—of features providing interaction history of each individual user. Participants were asked to assess the website, including whether they thought the site was easy to use and whether they felt any anxiety using the site. Participants also were asked about their level of engagement, as well as quizzed about the information that was on the site, such as global issues. The researchers recorded the time the participants spent using the site as another measure of engagement. This research won honorable mention at the ACM Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI'22) and was reported on May 3 in its proceedings. https://techxplore.com/news/2022-05-interactive-tools-people-big-journalists.html
  3. AMD Navi 31 GPUs based on the RDNA 3 graphics architecture are allegedly going to offer PCIe Gen 5.0 x16 support for the high-end Radeon RX 7000 series. AMD Radeon RX 7000 High-End Graphics Cards Based on Navi 31 'RDNA 3' GPUs To Feature PCIe Gen 5.0 x16 Support The latest information regarding the high-end Radeon RX 7000 graphics card lineup comes from Kepler_L2 who has been digging RDNA 3 GPU information through various drivers and patches. Now, the same leaker is reporting that AMD's Navi 31 GPU, the flagship for the Navi 3X lineup, is going to feature support for PCIe Gen 5.0 x16 lanes. I wouldn't be surprised to see AMD first to the PCIe Gen 5.0 standard considering they were the first to both PCIe Gen 4.0 (RX 5000 series) and PCIe Gen 3.0 (HD 7000 series). Just for comparison, the current AMD RDNA 2 'Navi 2x' GPUs feature PCIe Gen 4.0 support and come in a mix of x16, x8, and x4 interfaces. Kepler only states PCIe Gen 5.0 support for Navi 31 though other Navi 3X offerings might also be getting the same protocol infused within their GPU I/O die but with a limited interface (x8 or x4). The biggest benefit that PCIe Gen 5.0 brings is the doubling of the transfer rates from 64 GB/s (16 GT/s) to 128 GB/s (32 GT/s). Currently, other rumors have pointed out that NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 40 series might stick with the existing PCIe Gen 4.0 protocol even though they will feature the PCIe Gen 5 connector, allowing for up to 600W of power. AMD isn't expected to utilize the PCIe Gen 5 power connectors on their cards and might ship them with the traditional connector design. Though even if AMD does upgrade to the new Gen 5 12VPWHR standard, it will easily be adaptable to existing power supplies and users won't have to worry about upgrading their PSUs besides the 'Power Excursions' that the new ATX 3 standard is designed to eliminate. It makes sense to have PCIe Gen 5 ready hardware within this year as AMD has multiple platforms coming out that will take advantage of the new protocol. Just yesterday, AMD confirmed that their Zen 4-powered desktop and laptop chips will feature PCIe 5.0 support so having the necessary Gen 5 IO on RDNA 3 GPUs (which will be a major deal for next-gen APUs) is going to improve the inter-connectivity transfer rates by a big margin. With that said, AMD is working on multiple RDNA 3 IPs as recently revealed in the latest Linux patches and we also talk about various configurations with updated (yet still rumored) specs here. https://wccftech.com/amd-navi-31-rdna-3-gpus-for-high-end-radeon-rx-7000-allegedly-feature-pcie-gen-5-0-x16-support-up-to-128-gb-s-transfer-rates/
  4. The Federal Reserve is tasked with slowing the U.S. economy enough to control inflation but not so much that it tips into recession. Financial markets expect the central bank on Wednesday to announce a half-percentage point increase in the Fed’s benchmark interest rate. The fed funds rate controls the amount that banks charge each other for short-term borrowing but also serves as a signpost for many forms of consumer debt. Doubts are rising about whether it can pull it off, even among some former Fed officials. Wall Street saw another day of whipsaw trading Monday afternoon, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 rebounding after being down more than 1% earlier in the session. “A recession at this stage is almost inevitable,” former Fed vice chair Roger Ferguson told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” in a Monday interview. “It’s a witch’s brew, and the probability of a recession I think is unfortunately very, very high because their tool is crude and all they can control is aggregate demand.” Indeed, it’s the supply side of the equation that is driving most of the inflation problem, as the demand for goods has outstripped supply in dramatic fashion during the Covid-era economy. After spending much of 2021 insisting that the problem was “transitory” and would likely dissipate as conditions returned to normal, Fed officials this year have had to acknowledge the problem is deeper and more persistent than they acknowledged. Ferguson said he expects the recession to hit in 2023, and he hopes it “will be a mild one.” Hiking and ‘the recession that comes with it’ That sets up this week’s Federal Open Market Committee as pivotal: Policymakers not only are almost certain to approve a 50-basis-point interest rate hike, but they also are likely to announce a reduction in bond holdings accumulated during the recovery. Chair Jerome Powell will have to explain all that to the public, drawing a line between a Fed determined to crush inflation while not killing an economy that lately has looked vulnerable to shocks. “What that means is you’re going to have to hike enough to maintain credibility and start to shrink the balance sheet, and he’s going to have to take the recession that comes with it,” said Danielle DiMartino Booth, CEO of Quill Intelligence and a top advisor to former Dallas Fed President Richard Fisher while he served. “That’s going to be an extremely difficult message to communicate.” The recession chatter on Wall Street has intensified a bit lately, though most economists still think the Fed can tighten inflation and avoid a crash landing. Market pricing indicates this week’s increase of 50 basis points is to be followed by a hike of 75 basis points in June before the Fed settles back into a slower pace that eventually takes the funds rate to as high as 3% by the end of the year. But none of that is certain, and it will depend largely on an economy that contracted at 1.4% annualized pace in the first quarter of 2022. Goldman Sachs said it sees that reading dropping to a 1.5% decline, though it expects second-quarter growth of 3%. Fears of bad timing There are “growing risks” in the economy that could derail the Fed’s plans, said Tom Porcelli, chief U.S. economist at RBC Capital Markets. “For starters, while everyone seems very focused on here and now data/earnings that seem to suggest all is fine at the moment, the problem is cracks are building,” Porcelli said in a note. “Moreover, this is all happening as inflationary pressures are quite likely to slow — and possibly slow more than seems appreciated at the moment.” Monday brought fresh signs that growth at least could be slowing: The ISM Manufacturing Index for April decreased to 55.4, indicative of a sector still expanding but at a reduced pace. Perhaps more importantly, the employment index for the month was just 50.9 — a reading of 50 indicates expansion, so April pointed to a near-halt in hiring. And what of inflation? Twelve-month readings are still registering the highest levels in about 40 years. But the Fed’s preferred measure saw a monthly gain of just 0.3% in March. The Dallas Fed’s trimmed mean, which throws out readings at either end of the range, tumbled from 6.3% in January down to 3.1% in March. Those kinds of numbers conjure up the worst fears on Wall Street, namely that a Fed way behind the curve on inflation when it began now may be as recalcitrant when it comes to tightening. “They’re going to reiterate, ‘Look, we’re going to be data-sensitive. If the data changes, we’ll change what we’re expected to do,’” said James Paulsen, chief investment strategist at The Leuthold Group. “There’s certainly some slower real growth going on. It’s not falling off a cliff, for sure, but it’s moderating. I think they’ll be more sensitive to that down the road.” https://www.cnbc.com/2022/05/02/fears-of-a-fed-mistake-grow-as-this-weeks-anticipated-interest-rate-hike-looms.html
  5. An unidentified monkey spotted in Borneo is a rare hybrid between two different species that are competing for forest space, a new study suggests. Researchers concluded that the "mystery monkey" is likely the offspring of a proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus) and a silvery langur (Trachypithecus cristatus) — two distantly related species that share the same habitat. Coronavirus restrictions prevented the researchers from investigating the forest where the monkey lives, so instead the scientists analyzed photos that began appearing on social media in 2017. The monkey was initially photographed as a juvenile, but more recent photos from 2020 reveal that the animal is now a mature female and may have an infant of her own. "She appeared to be nursing a baby," study co-author Nadine Ruppert, a primatologist at the Universiti Sains Malaysia (Science University of Malaysia), told Live Science in an email. "We were all in awe, it was quite surreal." While different species typically don't produce viable offspring if they mate, very closely related species may occasionally interbreed in the wild to create hybrids. For example, northern pig-tailed macaques (Macaca leonina) and southern pig-tailed macaques (Macaca nemestrina) interbreed in certain parts of Thailand, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). However, interbreeding species are typically similar and belong to the same evolutionary group, or genus — proboscis monkeys and silvery langurs do not. The hybrid monkey was spotted near the Kinabatangan River in Malaysian Borneo (the island is divided among three nations: Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia), where the ranges of proboscis monkeys and silvery langurs overlap. But these two monkey species are visibly very different. Adult proboscis monkeys have pinkish faces with elongated noses, while adult silvery langurs have black faces with shorter, flatter noses. Probosicis monkeys are also larger. A male proboscis monkey can grow up to 30 inches (76 cm) long and weighs 44 to 53 pounds (20 to 24 kg). Silvery langurs only reach about 22 inches (56 cm) long and weigh 14.5 pounds (6.6 kg) on average, according to the New England Primate Conservancy. Both species live in groups composed of a dominant male and multiple females and their offspring. Males born into these groups are pressured to leave once they mature to start groups of their own, or take over another group. However, habitat decline is limiting the areas where these dispersing males can go, according to Ruppert. "We concluded from the observations that the photographers made that male proboscis monkeys are mating with female silver langurs in the area and that there are mixed groups where female proboscis monkeys even take care of silver langur babies," Ruppert said. Male proboscis monkeys may be using their larger size to oust langur males and take over langur groups. The researchers suspect that the "mystery monkey" in the photos is the offspring of a male proboscis monkey and a female langur because it shares characteristics of both species. For example, her nose is pronounced like a female proboscis monkey, but not as elongated, and her face has a gray tinge. Most hybrids born from different species are sterile and unable to produce offspring, which makes the so-called mystery monkey and her baby even more unusual. It's possible she was allomothering — or taking care of another female's infant — but the photos showed that she had swollen breasts associated with lactation, which indicates the offspring was her own. As unique and intriguing as the discovery appears to be, there's a downside. "It’s tragic that both species now cramp together in the remaining narrow riparian forest patches surrounded by oil palm plantations, where they compete for food and mating opportunities," Ruppert said. "I hope that people will start talking about her, not as an attraction, but as a 'flagship' animal of the area that needs to be protected, and with her, her two parent species and their habitat." https://www.livescience.com/mystery-monkey-rare-hybrid
  6. For years, the Kia Soul has existed in the gray area between a subcompact hatchback and a subcompact SUV. We consider it the latter (and one of the best you can buy), but changes Kia has implemented for 2023—including the erasure of the rugged-ish-looking X-Line trim level—will, at the very least, surely keep customers guessing. That's because the Soul veers back toward a more car-like appearance; the look also skews more conventional, with more formal headlights than before, a new front bumper with slimmed-down fog lights, and a redesigned rear bumper and taillights. This is still the same basic Soul that debuted for 2020, albeit refreshed slightly. Kia also has cut down how many trim levels it'll offer, reducing the choices to the base LX, S, EX, and GT-Line variants. Gone is the SUV-cosplaying X-Line and the sporty Turbo trim, along with its namesake, a 201-hp turbocharged 1.6-liter I-4 engine and dual-clutch automatic transmission. That means every 2023 Kia Soul comes powered by last year's entry-level 2.0-liter I-4 making 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque, along with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). As before, only the front wheels receive power, and all-wheel drive is not available. Changes to the Soul's interior are minor and mostly limited to a switch from red to whiteish-blue switchgear backlighting and what appears to be a newly available digital gauge cluster, at least on the GT-Line trim. Kia has packed in more standard safety gear, and every Soul now gets forward collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. An option package can add blind-spot monitoring to that pile on Soul LX variants. GT-Line Souls are available with a new Technology package that includes heated front seats, a Harman/Kardon audio system, LED speaker lights, LED headlights and taillights, navigation, and Kia's Highway Drive Assist feature that can handle steering and throttle/braking duties on freeways (with driver supervision, of course). There are also several new paint options, as well as new two-tone paint options. The Kia Soul's pricing won't be announced until closer to its on-sale date, but with the loss of the available turbo engine and consolidation of trim levels, we wouldn't be surprised to see the model's pricing envelope shrink. Look for the base price to remain around $20,000, but for loaded GT-Line versions to perhaps come in cheaper than last year's maxed-out GT-Line Turbo, which started around $29,000. Though the front end now resembles Kia's sedate Rio subcompact sedan and hatchback a little more than we'd like—remember, the Soul has long traded on its funkiness—its basic appeal remains. This is a well-packaged, affordable small car with a taller-than-usual seating position and pleasant boxiness. https://www.motortrend.com/news/2023-kia-soul-first-look-review/
  7. The defamation trial between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp is unfolding new facts and secrets with each hearing. Yesterday, Johnny finished his four-day testimony in Fairfax, Virginia Court. Johnny filed a defamation suit against his ex-wife regarding an opinion article published in 2018. In the article, Amber, without naming her ex-husband, called herself a ‘public figure representing domestic abuse’. As it was indirectly hinted at Johnny, he sued Amber and dragged her to court. After a number of allegations by Johnny Depp on his ex-wife such as starting arguments, throwing vodka bottle at him and so on, Amber’s psychological condition and behaviour was examined by a clinical psychologist, Dr Shannon Curry. Making shocking revelations about Amber’s mental health, the doctor revealed that the actor is suffering from two psychiatric disorders – histrionic personality disorder and borderline personality disorder. To put more light on the subject, let’s learn more about these disorders. The personality disorder develops mainly in adulthood when the person becomes too dramatic and develops attention-seeking behaviour. The personality disorder is characterised by the Cluster B personality disorder which defines as ‘dramatic, overly emotional or unpredictable thinking or behaviour.’ SYMPTOMS OF HPD Feeling uncomfortable when attention is not on you Provocative and sexually seductive behaviour Swiftly changing emotions Focus on appearance to gain attention Unclear speech which lacks detail Exaggerated emotions and self-dramatization Easily influenceable Sense of insecurity and too much intimacy in the relationship CAUSES There are numerous reasons why someone can develop HPD. Usually, these mental disorders are related to lifelong experiences and trauma which takes a dig on the mental health during the maturity age. The main causes include inconsistent parenting style, not enough attention received, the experience of violence at home, family history of psychiatric disorders and childhood trauma. BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER A borderline personality disorder is mainly associated with the person’s way of thinking about themselves. This mental disorder includes ‘self-image issues, difficulty managing emotions and behaviour, and a pattern of unstable relationships.’ The condition generally develops during early adulthood. SYMPTOMS OF BPD Intense fear of abandonment Unstable feelings about your partner Sudden changes in personality and emotions Episodes of stress-related paranoia and diminished reality Indulging in unhealthy social activities such as gambling, impulsive and unsafe sex, drug abuse and so on Episodes of self-injury Excessive mood swings Feeling of loneliness Aggressive behaviour can result in physical fights CAUSES Just like HPD, BPD is also linked to the experiences one goes through during their growing time. It can be anything from going through emotional or physical abuse suffered by them at an early age, neglection by parents, growing up with abusive people or drug addicts around, or a sense of fear developed at the early age. DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF HPD AND BPD Mental disorders are generally diagnosed by a detailed interview with a psychologist that includes a number of questions. They also take family history cases to know more about the type of time a person spent during their growing years. An open conversation on signs and symptoms and incidence which have impacted the patient a lot. The only way to cure the disorders is through psychotherapy. A number of therapies are tried upon the patient including Dialectical behaviour therapy, Schema-focused therapy, Transference-focused psychotherapy and so on. Psychologists also use medications to control emotions and calm down the hyperactive behaviour of the patient. https://www.news18.com/news/lifestyle/kanpur-to-kolkata-cities-that-have-been-renamed-several-times-5111449.html
  8. Russia has dismissed speculation that it will declare all-out war in Ukraine in the coming days as "nonsense". Moscow has up until now denied it is at war, instead referring to the invasion as a "special military operation". But Western officials have speculated that President Vladimir Putin could use the 9 May Victory Parade to announce an escalation of military action. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, however, said there was no truth to the rumours "at all". UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said last week that the Moscow parade - commemorating the defeat of the Nazis and World War Two - might be used to drum up support for a mass mobilisation of troops and renewed push into Ukraine. "I would not be surprised, and I don't have any information about this, that he is probably going to declare on this May Day that 'we are now at war with the world's Nazis and we need to mass mobilise the Russian people'," he told LBC radio. Russian officials only refer to the invasion as a "special military operation" to "demilitarise" or "de-Nazify" the country, referencing a baseless claim about Nazis in the Ukrainian government which Moscow used to justify the invasion. As well as the annual parade in Moscow, there are also long-standing reports that the Kremlin is planning some sort of additional parade in the city of Mariupol in southern Ukraine, almost all of which is now under Russian control. Ukrainian forces remain in one area of the city - a vast industrial steelworks called Azovstal. Latest reports suggest that after the recent successful evacuation of some civilians, attacks on the steelworks have resumed and contact has been lost with the last remaining soldiers inside. Ukrainian officials say the streets of the city centre are being cleared of debris, bodies, and unexploded bombs. Large parts of the city lie in ruins, after Russian forces bombarded it relentlessly for weeks under siege. Ukrainian politician Alyona Shkrum told the BBC she was expecting things to become more difficult alongside Russia's victory day celebrations. "For Putin and for the empire he's trying to build, basically this is a symbolic day, right?" she said. "So he takes some kind of victory day and he turns it into a big fight right now against Nazis, which is obviously Russian propaganda and completely ridiculous. "We are expecting that there will be quite tough times here in Kyiv and in Odesa and in Mariupol, and in other cities for 9 May." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-61321799

  13. Most games on Roblox have codes and Tower of Hell is no exception. So, today, we are going to be going through all of the codes currently active for Tower of Hell. Tower of Hell hasn’t been known to give very many codes, and actually doesn’t have any in-game code areas, like other games on this platform. VAULT CODES In the game, there are two vaults that you can make it too! Each of these vaults can be open with a different code, and give you an in-game item. Vault #1 Code: 69420 Vault #2 Code: 5164627 Previously, codes in this game have been made available to enter in-game chat, which is something that isn’t often used in games. This included a code for free membership, for 36 hours, through /freemember, however, this code expired in 2021. Keep your eye out for more codes in Tower of Hell - and hopefully the developers will start to release them more often, so that we can get XP and other items in game. If you do see any codes for Tower of Hell, do use them as soon as you see them, as they often will not last for very long at all! If you're looking for more Roblox codes that you can use, try All Star Tower Defense codes, Blox Fruits redeem codes, Grand Piece Online codes and many others that we are featuring! About the game Roblox is full of fun games for you and your friends to enjoy! One of the more po[CENSORED]r obby style games is titled Tower of Hell. This is a randomly generated obstacle course, where you will try to climb the tower by jumping around, climbing ladders, avoiding lasers, and otherwise getting to the top. There are no checkpoints, and a course is generated until a massive timer ticks down. This timer, once it reaches zero, will also bring everyone to the base of the game. Players can purchase more time, but this is risky! https://www.pocketgamer.com/how-tos/redeem-gift-cards-and-codes-on-itunes-app-store/
  14. This will be a day long remembered, as there’s a new Elden Ring lightsaber mod that immediately transforms the RPG game into an even better Souls-like Star Wars game than even Jedi Fallen Order – and, at last, an Elden Ring Darth Vader skin, with a Maul one on the way. These mods are the first uploads by Xelerate on Nexus Mods for Elden Ring, and they already threaten to turn it into the ultimate Star Wars open-world game. The first mod is the double-bladed lightsaber pack, as favoured by Darth Maul, which replaces the Godskin Peeler twinblade and comes in a variety of colours. Xelerate promises that the Darth Maul skin you can see in the screenshot above “will be released soon”, finally giving Star Wars fans that Darth Maul game they’ve been hoping for – even if via Elden Ring mods. The opportunity to drop Maul to his knees and scream “MALENIA!” at the start of her boss fight will be too much temptation for me to pass up. Xelenia has already added a Darth Vader skin to the game, however the only lightsaber so far is the double-bladed variety – despite Vader wielding a single blade in the video below. The modder says that players should “stay tuned for more Star Wars-themed mods”, so hopefully we’ll get a katana lightsaber swap soon – and maybe some Jedi into the bargain. I’d love to dash around the Lands Between as Yoda. Thanks to mods, Elden Ring isn’t just the best Star Wars RPG, it’s the ultimate Legend of Zelda game too. https://www.pcgamesn.com/elden-ring/lightsaber-mod-star-wars
  15. The Russian rouble will be used in Kherson from Sunday, according to Russia-backed forces that have taken control of the southern Ukrainian city. However, Kherson's Ukrainian mayor, Ihor Kolykhaiev, who has now been overthrown by Russian authorities, has said that he doesn't believe this will be possible while the only working banking system in the region is Ukrainian, not Russian. Despite being occupied for 60 days, many residents are trying to find small ways to defy the Russian forces - like exchanging any roubles they receive back into Ukraine's currency, the hryvnia. But there are very few ways to safely snub the Russian army when it occupies your streets. Z signs - a Russian pro-war symbol - have appeared around the city. Russian flags hang above Kherson's government buildings. Ukrainian TV has been mostly cut off, changed to Russian news. Russian soldiers drive armoured vehicles through the city centre, between a network of check points. Now, changing the region's currency is yet another bid to erase Ukrainian identity from the city. "I think most people will leave here if the rouble is introduced," Olga, who didn't want to use her real name, told me from inside Kherson. "At the moment there are still currency exchanges operating in the city. If I am paid in roubles, I think I will just go and exchange it for hryvnia, I think others will too. It's just a small act of protest." What does Putin want from Russia's war in Ukraine? Why has 'Z' become a Russian pro-war symbol? Olga is not the only one with this plan. Ukrainian news reports have said that some pensions have been handed out in roubles around Kherson, but that people have already exchanged it back into Ukrainian hryvnia. Life in Kherson has become increasingly difficult. Many now feel nervous about even speaking to a journalist. When we reach Olga and ask how she is feeling, she sighs. "I'm alive and I have food," she says. Around 40% of the po[CENSORED]tion have fled in the two months since this key, strategic city was taken by Russia, according to the mayor. Many residents tell us about their struggle to pay for what few goods there are, as supermarket shelves lie empty. They say that shops, restaurants and businesses have closed and parts of the economy have ground to a halt, cut off from much of the world. Earlier this week, Russian forces appointed a new administration in Kherson because Mr Kolykhaiev was "not cooperating" with the occupied forces, according to Russian state news agency Ria. Speaking on video call from somewhere in the region, with piles of binders and a toy camouflage jeep sitting on shelves behind him, Mr Kolykhaiev says he has not stopped working. He is sceptical of whether Russia can successfully introduce the rouble. "I have no confirmation that it's been introduced," he says. "When can it appear? When the treasury and the banking system of Ukraine will stop working? Anything can happen under occupation, I can't get into Russia's head to find out what they are thinking. If they do try to introduce the rouble zone here, we would be plunged back into 1992 when Ukraine gained its independence." Ukrainian authorities had suggested that Russia could try to hold a referendum in the region on 1 May, asking voters whether they want independence from Ukraine. Any attempt to do this would be seen as a way to legitimise Russia's intervention, suggesting that residents no longer want to be part of Ukraine and painting Russia as liberators. Russia held a referendum in Crimea after Moscow annexed it in 2014, and also in the Russian-backed separatist areas of Donetsk and Luhansk. Russia has denied plans to hold a vote in Kherson, and for now residents in the city say they've seen no sign of it. Rumours swirl on social media channels about what could happen. Some Ukrainians are worried that Russia will simply fake the result and use records of their identity documents - which they fear the Russians could gain access to in the administrative buildings they now occupy - to back it up. "I'm not sure they even need the po[CENSORED]tion here to know that there is a referendum," says Olga. "I guess they can do it without us. Maybe I already voted." Routes to safety shut off Several people inside Kherson told us that the routes out to safer parts of Ukraine have now been shut altogether. The only road available is through Crimea which means travelling into Russian territory, something several Ukrainians told us they would not be prepared to do. Maxim felt this was his only route to safety. He didn't want his name to be used as his family are still inside the city. At the border he was subject to a long interrogation as a security guard inspected his body for tattoos. "It was like a film," he said. "You sit on a suitcase under the scorching sun to be interrogated. I would never have imagined I would have to go through this. I was really horrified, because it's scary - people with machine guns are walking past you." His favourite artist almost got him into difficulties. "They were asking me the same questions on repeat," he says. "I have a David Bowie lightning tattoo and they asked me 'Is that Azov?'" The Azov battalion are a controversial regiment that was originally a far-right group later incorporated into Ukraine's National Guard. Maxim says that many of the cars in the queue had Kherson number plates. He has since safely travelled through Georgia and on to Europe. "Reaching Georgia was like being released from jail," he says. "You feel like you've got your human rights back." For those still in Kherson there are deep fears about the future. "I am afraid of a humanitarian catastrophe," says Mr Kolykhaiev. "I am worried for the people who are still in the city today. They are all hostages. "It's like we started with 100 litres of petrol in the car tank and we are driving until the gas runs out. I want to calculate how long we can keep driving. How long can we carry the city?" https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-61286505
