  1. Passive income is the pinnacle of online entrepreneurial pursuits. Everybody wants it. Few have it. Fewer make enough to live on it. The idea of “passive income” (money earned on a regular basis as a result of little effort) fascinated me when I started my entrepreneurial journey. I followed online experts who laid out the “perfect path” to passive income. Unfortunately, I spent two years seeking this elusive Holy Grail of income with little to show for it. Related: 7.1 Steps to Create Multiple Streams of Income Too many aspiring entrepreneurs hear the same message that I did about passive income. Many seek passive routes first without understanding the power of pursuing active income (or, said differently, “trading time for dollars”). A new entrepreneur should pursue active income first. Let’s dive into why. The quickest way to make money online Let’s imagine that two new entrepreneurs wish to start side businesses using their experience in recruiting. The first entrepreneur, named Anh, pursues active income by selling recruiter services to local businesses. The second entrepreneur, Steve, aims for passive income opportunities by creating a “niche website” with exclusive information on recruiters. He hopes visitors will click his article links and purchase products. In exchange for his work, he’ll receive affiliate commissions from purchases. Who will make money first? After three months, Anh is trouncing Steve. Anh generates more revenue faster than Steve. Anh is on the streets reaching her ideal clients, learning about their major problems and figuring out how she can solve them. Steve, on the other hand, must wait for his potential customers to find his obscure website. He promotes his website on social media, but Google won’t recognize it for at least three to six months. Steve also won’t meet his potential customers, so he misses out on direct feedback and won’t know if he’s creating the right content. Related: Passive vs. Active LLC Members: Who's Paid What? Here are three advantages of pursuing active income before passive income: Easy to start Consider the time it takes Anh to make her first dollar compared to Steve. After three weeks of visiting businesses in her local area and submitting proposals to websites like UpWork.com, Anh can easily get her first client and can use her revenue to obtain more clients. Anh gains real-world experience by interacting with her clients and hearing about their problems. While Anh is killing it, Steve is stuck his in basement tweaking his website to fix a menu bar problem. Easy to adapt Active income can quickly adapt based on client feedback, market changes or business needs. Passive income pursuits may lead down a path where there is only lost money. Although Anh may fail, she fails “on the job.” She can quickly rebound and can take what she learns from her previous failed attempts and approach the next potential client differently.Steve, on the other hand, must wait to see if his website will generate income after receiving thousands of visitors. Steve cannot learn as quickly as Anh. While Anh is securing another client, Steve must wait to analyze the data. Related: Are You Diversifying Your Income? You'd Better Start. Easy to scale Active income is based on one product or service idea. After Anh establishes a stream of clients, she can focus on scaling her business in different ways. For example, she could create different tiers of her service, expand to different industries or hire another recruiter. And, Anh’s services could easily turn into products or courses, thereby generating passive income. For example, Anh notices that her clients struggle with defining their desired applicants. Based on this client need, Anh creates a training course and sells it on her website. Returning to Steve’s business, he hopes that he gets enough traffic on his website to generate sales, but it’s slow going as he hasn’t received income from affiliates (affiliates often take one to three months to send commissions). New entrepreneurs should consider passive income only after a business model is established. Anh will eventually develop passive income sources, but not until she receives feedback that the market is asking for her solution to a client problem. Said differently, Anh seeks validation for her business idea first - the best first step. If you don’t believe me, ask the guy behind HotShot, who appeared on Shark Tank. He spent $3 million in six years building his product without making a sale. After seeking active income and getting to know her clients and their problems, Anh knows that she can offer solutions and build something once that will hold value over time. Steve, on the other hand, is still crunching numbers in his basement while he waits for sales to happen.

  2. Bought yourself a shiny new Xbox One S yet? We doubt you've done anything as impressive with it as hardware hacker Edward Zarick has: he's stuffed Microsoft's slimmed-down console into a laptop shell and added a fold-down screen. It's not a true laptop - you still need a power supply at all times - but it's still an impressive bit of modding from Zarick, who previously performed the same trick with a full-size Xbox One. Oh, and he's also combined a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One together in the same machine as well. The 19-inch Samsung screen runs at a 720p resolution, but you can still connect up an external monitor if you need more pixels for your gaming. Zarick will actually build one for you, if you're prepared to fork out $1,495 (about £1,150) plus shipping for the 500GB model. Add $50 (£40) for the bigger 1TB console. Alternatively, enter the competition Zarick is running to win one for free and enjoy the freedom of being able to take your Xbox One S console anywhere - as long as there's a spare power socket available.

Analysts estimated that the game is going to make money between 200 million and 500 million dollars in one year. Michael Patcher, analyst at the company "weidbosh", the highest number in these estimates would put the game in the list of the best 20 game collectibles in terms of profits in history. It is said that Pokemon game became most downloaded Goo, since its launch in July.

  11. Before the release of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Naughty Dog developers talked about how the events of that game would make it difficult for Nathan Drake to star in a new entry in the series. This, combined with the game's ominous-sounding title, may have led some fans to believe Drake would not survive. Drake does survive. Now, director Neil Druckmann has revealed Naughty Dog never had any intention of killing off the franchise hero in part because it wouldn't have worked with the franchise's tone. "It felt like Nathan Drake didn't have too many places left to go," Druckmann said on a recent Writers Guild of America podcast. "How do we wrap it up in this definitive way while still maintaining the tone of the series? A lot of the times, when you say it's the last one, people go, 'Oh, you're going to kill him.' That's one way to make it definitive." Druckmann added that keeping Drake's fate ambiguous in press interviews and official marketing assets was a way to "throw people off." But killing the beloved character was never in the cards. "We pretty early on decided that, tonally, [killing Drake] wouldn't be right for this kind of lighthearted pulp action-adventure series," he said. Druckmann appears on the WGA podcast with Breaking Bad, X-Files,and Better Call Saul writer Gennifer Hutchinson, each sharing their own illuminating perspectives on storytelling. Listen to it here. Uncharted 4 is the final entry in the series to star Drake and the last one developed by Naughty Dog. There could be a fifth mainline Uncharted game with another developer and presumably a new hero, however. In other news about the Uncharted franchise, it was recently announced that Bad Boys 3 director Joe Carnahan is attached to write the Uncharted film's script.

  13. No Man's Sky is an intimidating game at first glance. It's easy to get the hang of, however, especially if you're familiar with Minecraft, Terraria, or Starbound. Here are some useful tips for beginners that will assist you with the first couple of hours of your strange new life. Collect the supplies from around your crash site -- When you first wake up, you'll find some supplies scattered around your ship. Don't leave them behind! Your ship is a haven -- Your ship is a handy-dandy save point. It also protects you against extreme temperatures and other hostilities. Retreat there for a safe place to think and craft. Stay close to your ship until you're familiar with the game's controls -- Hiding out in your ship for a short time restores your thermal protection without needing to spend isotopes or other consumables. Stay close to "home" for a bit until you get an idea of how to move. There should be plenty of useful isotopes within range. Remember to replenish your thermal protection and life support when you're far from "home" -- Your life support and thermal protection drains when you're in hostile territory, but you can recharge it using easy-to-find isotopes like zinc, plutonium, and carbon. You'll get warnings when your level drops, so heed them when you're on a long trip. Caves offer environmental protection -- If you need to warm up or cool off in a hurry, caves can give you respite from the cruel world. Know your plants: They contain health and isotopes -- Much of the florae in No Man's Sky contain healing and restorative properties that can recharge your thermal protection and your life support. Many also contain isotopes. It's unclear why platinum grows in flowers, but don't question your good fortune. Use your jetpack to save you from big falls -- Long falls hurt! Use your jetpack to soften landings. In fact, early on, your jetpack is far better suited for assisting jumps than for rocketing around to and fro. Do minor repair work as soon as possible -- Whenever you're ready, enter your personal inventory (press the touch pad on the PlayStation 4) and flip through the tabs to get a bead on what needs to be repaired. Your Scanner and Analysis Visor should be the first things you repair: They let you identify the species around you, and make it easier to zoom in on deposits of rare minerals. Repair your mining beam -- One more repair job you should prioritize is your mining beam. It's the only way to chip at larger deposits of rare elements. Make a weapon! -- Your spawn-planet may never put you face-to-face with hostile life forms. On the other hand, it might. It's not a bad idea to have a weapon on-hand. In your personal inventory, flip to the "Multi-tool" tab, place your cursor on an empty spot, and see what weapons you can craft. If you don't have the necessary elements, get them. You should at least make sure you have a simple bolt caster on you at all times. Be wary around sentinels -- Sentinels are robots that occupy some planets. They're more plentiful on some worlds than others. They'll leave you alone for the most part, but if you mine for resources while they're looking, they might disapprove and attack you. Sentinels are tough enemies early in the game; it's best to avoid provoking their wrath, period. If some are whizzing around, go mine somewhere else. Find and activate beacons -- Beacons let you upload your findings, discover new territory, and sometimes advance story missions. Here's more information about finding and activating beacons. Enjoy, and take your time! -- Ultimately, there's no wrong way to play No Man's Sky. Sit back, don't stress, and explore the vast, vast universe before you!

  21. You may not be in the big leagues yet, sporting Fortune 500 status and a private jet, but that does not mean you can't grow like you are. The principal behind business growth is universal. It does not discriminate against size at all. In fact, its modus operandi resembles something more along the lines of “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” The truth is, you can grow like a big corporation. They are no different that you. Most of the time, we fail to experience growth for two primary reasons. First, is our fear of failure. Many chances for growth pass by because we are afraid to take them. And hey, let's be honest -- sometimes it happens. It did for e-gifting company Boomerang founder, Zach Smith. Yet, rather than take failure as a final event, he rerouted and rebooted the company to success. Related: Challenges Evolve Differently During the 5 Stages of a Growing Small Business The second reason growth eludes us? We lack the infrastructure. This is all too common. It happened to Pets.com. You have to be a sapling before you are an oak. Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz understood this. Though his vision was a global billion-dollar industry, they began by selling a variety of simple coffee blends with a focus on customer service. Paying attention to these two points, we can unpack a few strategies major corporations use for growth. Though they may be larger, it is still possible to emulate their model and achieve similar results. These business growth principles apply to all sorts of fields, from coffee shops to medical practices. 1. Leverage partnerships. Before you zone out, thinking you are in no position to entertain a partnership, expand the semantic range of the word. I'm not talking about fronting the capital to establish a partnership. No, this is much more creative than that. Offer a strategic partnership. For instance, maybe you have a great product, but you have supply or distribution issues. Why not partner with a manufacturer and offer them a percentage of each sale? It's a hustle for sure, but not unusual in the least. It is the best way to leverage a partnership when you are a small business. It allows you to focus on selling your products, so you can level up in the future. Related: Improve Your Great Idea by Listening to What Your Customers Tell You 2. Maintain customer focus. This is how giants like Starbucks, Apple and Old Navy grew into the megalithic corporations they are today. Focusing on the customer should always be front and center, for without them, there would be no business. Consumers are people, and to grow any business, you need to cater to individuals. Specifically, according to Bob Mangat, CEO of Invigomedia, "Some products or services take a while to deliver, but feeling cared for lifts the spirits immediately. For consumers, this is priceless." Why are doctors with full practices so successful? Customer focus via customer service. It's amazing what a shift in customer focus will do. Now, we do not go to the doctor to be told we are sick. We go because we want someone to care. Our needs changed and the marketplace adapted. The lesson here is make sure you continually focus on your customer so you can maintain focus when a shift occurs. That will contribute to steady, consistent growth. 3. Push for penetration. Notice what large companies do. They are never content to remain small. Take Finland-based game app developer Rovio. You might know them by another name, Angry Birds. They are worth a look. In 2009, they hit the market with Angry Birds. You could download it for $0.99. By 2010, they were the number-one downloaded game. In 2011, a round of venture capital fundraising found them holding 42 million dollars. They also launched a physical products store in Helsinki and expanded the product line globally. More than half of their total revenue is expected to come through physical products. Here is the really interesting part though. In 2011, they also had more than 200 million monthly users. It has now been downloaded just over 1.7 billion times. That is close to one-third of the planet's po[CENSORED]tion. 4. Implementing all three tips Look closely though, and you will see something unique about the Angry Birds story. They first started with a game, then diversified. The diversification brought product and brand awareness, which in turn led to more growth. Market penetration for Angry Birds reached a tipping point when they began selling physical products. It still worked, because they were delivering value with their physical products. Related: Why Collaboration Is an Easier Route to Small Business Growth It is a powerful story. It is inspiring. Notice they used all of the three strategies mentioned above. They leveraged a partnership, maintained customer focus and went full throttle for market penetration. Can you grow like a large corporation? Sure you can. Angry Birds started growing $0.99 at a time -- until they struck gold.
  22. Bossa Studios, the creator of the sleeper hit Surgeon Simulator, is heading for adventures in the sky with its next game Worlds Adrift, and VentureBeat is reporting it has raised $1.35 million in funding from UK investment firm London Venture Partners to fund the MMO. Worlds Adrift, as Bossa Studios previously explained to Gamasutra, will be a sandbox online game where players can join together to crew flying pirate ships as they sail through the floating islands of a fantasy world. The funding is a big jump for the UK developer, whose previous games Surgeon Simulator and I Am Bread have been far smaller than a full-scale MMO. The company has already released a player creation tool for Worlds Adrift which lets them create their own islands that can be considered for implementation in the game. In a statement, Bossa CEO Henrique Olifiers says the company intends to use the funding to take advantage of advancements in cloud computing technology to create a more procedurally-generated MMO, rather then the scripted MMOs of recent years. “Think of it as the difference between a scripted TV show where once you’ve watched an episode and know what’s happened…versus an improv stage where the same scenario can lead to an infinite number of unexpected interactions due to actors empowered with full freedom each time,” Olifiers says. Olifiers previously told Gamasutra that Worlds Adrift was only possible thanks to a partnership with world simulator startup Improbable, which builds operating environments for virtual worlds.
  23. A fun little glitch in Lucioball, the Rocket League-like Overwatch game mode Blizzard released last week, recently came to light: While the game is supposed to be a Lucio-exclusive affair, it's possible to play as other characters who really aren't designed for it. At first, it seemed to happen almost randomly, but some players have apparently figured out how to make it happen intentionally, which has prompted Blizzard to warn of dire consequences for those who do. “Apologies for this bug. We've attempted to fix it numerous times and have had unrelated issues preventing the fix. We hope to have a fix this week,” Game Director Jeff Kaplan wrote in the Battle.net forums. “In the meantime, we are in discussions with our Customer Support group to start taking action against those deliberately using the bug to play heroes other than Lucio. Please do not exploit this bug. Fair warning.” Kaplan didn't hint at what sort of unpleasantness might befall those who willfully dick around with the game, but the unspoken “or else” is clear. I would guess that a straight-up ban is unlikely—taking advantage of a bug in a semi-silly game mode like Lucioball is hardly the same as hacking in competitive play, after all—but a ban from that particular mode strikes me as perfectly reasonable. And if history has taught us anything, it's that Blizzard is not shy about dropping the hammer on those who behave badly. Fair warning.
