  13. Five teenage students have drowned in a river in Bangladesh moments after playing a football match, police say. The boys, from a school in the south-eastern Cox's Bazar district, went to bathe after a friendly game between supporters of Argentina and Brazil. They were then swept away by the strong current of the Matamuhuri river. Police recovered the bodies on Saturday evening, some six hours after the boys drowned. Tens of thousands of people attended their funeral on Sunday. Local police chief Bakhtiar Uddin Chowdhury said that 22 schoolboys played a friendly football match on Saturday after dividing themselves between supporters of the two South American teams. He said that, following the game, six boys went to the river. The area near the Matamuhuri Bridge where they had chosen to swim was "very deep", he added. "We rescued a boy. Later five bodies were recovered. The dead included two brothers," he told AFP news agency. Bangladesh country profile The incident occurred at about 17:00 local time (11:00 GMT) on Saturday, according to reports. Cricket is po[CENSORED]r in Bangladesh but during the football World Cup the country is gripped by football fever. The teams of Brazil and Argentina are particularly po[CENSORED]r among Bangladeshi fans.

  18. Israel says it has struck dozens of Hamas military targets in northern Gaza in retaliation for assaults including more than 90 rocket attacks. Palestinian health officials said two people were killed and 12 injured in an air strike in Gaza City. Three Israelis were injured by a rocket in Sderot. Israel's targets included a battalion HQ and a training facility used by Hamas, its military said. The operation is one of Israel's broadest since the 2014 war with Hamas. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said it struck facilities used by the militant group, which dominates Gaza, including a battalion headquarters in Beit Lahia, a training camp located in a high-rise building in the al-Shati refugee camp in northern Gaza, weapons storage facilities and rocket launchers. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the operation could continue. "We will expand the scope of our reaction to Hamas' terror attacks as much as needed. If Hamas doesn't get our message today, it will tomorrow," he said. Witnesses told Reuters news agency an Israeli strike had hit an empty building in Gaza City and that the casualties were passers-by. Hamas said another Palestinian had died after being shot by Israeli troops during border protests on Friday. The IDF said dozens of rockets had been fired on Israel from within Gaza. One rocket hit a home in the town of Sderot. Three people suffered shrapnel wounds. The attacks come amid an escalation of violence in the region in recent months. They coincided with mass demonstrations along the border which saw thousands of Palestinians express their support for the declared right of Palestinian refugees to return to their ancestral homes in what is now Israel - as well as demanding an end to the blockade of Gaza imposed by Israel and Egypt.

  19. US President Donald Trump has criticised the administration of his predecessor Barack Obama over alleged Russian hacking to help him win the 2016 presidential election. "Why didn't they do something about it?" he tweeted, adding that Mr Obama had been told about it before the vote. It follows pressure on Mr Trump to cancel Monday's talks with Russia's Vladimir Putin following the indictment of 12 Russians on Friday. Russia denies allegations of hacking. Mr Trump is due to meet Mr Putin in the Finnish capital Helsinki. Russia said it was looking forward to the meeting. "We consider Trump a negotiating partner," said Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov. "The state of bilateral relations is very bad. We have to start to set them right." Four intriguing lines in Mueller charges Who's who in Trump-Russia drama? However the hacking allegations have sparked a heated war of words between Washington and Moscow. US Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein insisted that "the goal of the conspirators was to have an impact on the election". But Russia's foreign ministry said the claims were a "heap of conspiracy schemes" intended to "damage the atmosphere" before Monday's summit. It said there was no evidence linking any of the dozen officials to hacking or military intelligence. What are the allegations? The 11-count indictment names the Russians defendants, alleging they began cyber-attacks in March 2016 on the email accounts of staff for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. They are accused of using keystroke reading software to spy on the chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and hack into the party's computers. Mr Rosenstein said the conspirators used fictitious online personas, including "DCLeaks" and "Guccifer 2.0", to release thousands of stolen emails. They are also accused of stealing the data of half a million voters from a state election board website. What pressure is there to cancel the talks? During a joint news conference with UK Prime Minister Theresa May on Friday, Mr Trump said he would "absolutely" ask the Russian president about alleged election meddling. But top Democrats have urged him to cancel the planned summit altogether following the indictment. "President Trump should absolutely cancel this meeting with Putin on Monday," said DNC chairman Tom Perez. "He is not a friend of the United States." "President Trump should cancel his meeting with Vladimir Putin until Russia takes demonstrable and transparent steps to prove that they won't interfere in future elections," said Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer.

  22. A US-UK trade deal "will absolutely be possible", Donald Trump has said, after he told The Sun Theresa May's Brexit plan could kill an agreement. Speaking after talks at Chequers, Mr Trump said the US-UK relationship is "the highest level of special", while Mrs May said they had discussed plans for an "ambitious" trade agreement. Mr Trump and his wife, Melania, later had tea with the Queen at Windsor. Thousands of people have protested in London against Mr Trump's UK visit. A large balloon, portraying the president as a baby, has been floated in Parliament Square as part of the demonstrations. Other protests are taking place across the UK on Friday and Saturday. The Queen greeted Mr Trump and the first lady as their motorcade arrived at Windsor Castle. The band of the Coldstream Guards played the Star-Spangled Banner and she invited the president to inspect the guard of honour. Their meeting lasted nearly an hour and was the final engagement in Mr Trump's two-day working visit to the UK. The Trumps later took off from Windsor in a presidential helicopter on their way to Scotland for a weekend stay at his Turnberry golf resort. Mr Trump and Mrs May's talks at Chequers took place after the Sun published its wide-ranging interview with the president in which he was critical of the PM's Brexit plan. But standing alongside Mrs May after the meeting at her Buckinghamshire country residence, Mr Trump praised her as an "incredible woman" and a "very tough negotiator" who was "doing a fantastic job", and said there could be a "great" trade deal between the US and UK. Jon Sopel: The Wacky Races of press conferences Trump: I didn't criticise May to The Sun Corbyn: It's not Trump's business who's PM Queen and US presidents through history He said: "I read reports where that won't be possible, but I believe after speaking with the prime minister's people and representatives and trade experts it will absolutely be possible". Mr Trump's first visit official visit to the UK as president took place in between the Nato summit in Brussels and a meeting on Monday in Helsinki with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Thousands of protesters, mainly women, have flooded the streets of central London in the first of the day's demonstrations against against Donald Trump. The crowd is full of whistles, drums and the all important pots and pans that seem to have become a symbol of this movement. Whilst the mood is jovial, their motivation is serious. Most of those I've talked to are here because of Mr Trump's immigration policies, especially after recent pictures from the Mexican border. There are also countless signs on his attitude to women. At the news conference, Mr Trump said: "The relationship between our two nations is indispensable to the cause of liberty, justice, and peace." He also told reporters: He had apologised to Mrs May for the Sun's story - but she told him not to worry as "it's only the press" He had not given Mrs May advice on how to deal with the EU but "did give her a suggestion... and I think she found it maybe too brutal" Brexit was an "incredible opportunity" and "whatever" the UK did after it left the EU was "OK with me" Mr Trump described Brexit as a "very tough situation... between the borders and the entries into the countries and all of the things", saying: "The only thing I ask is that she work it out so that we can have very even trade." Mrs May said the US was "keen" to do a deal with the UK, adding: "We will do a trade deal with them and with others around the rest of the world." She maintained the government's Brexit agreement - which has come under fire from supporters of a "hard Brexit" - "delivers" on the referendum vote. Earlier, Mr Trump said he and Mrs May had spoken for an hour-and-a-half at the black-tie dinner at Blenheim Palace on Thursday, which he attended with his wife Melania. "I think we probably never developed a better relationship than last night," he said. Mr Trump arrived at Chequers by helicopter after visiting the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, Berkshire. Meanwhile, Mrs Trump played bowls with the PM's husband, Philip May, at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London, where she met Chelsea Pensioners and local children and was shown how to make remembrance poppies. Downing Street said Mrs May had presented the US president with a gift of an illustrated ancestral chart of his Scottish heritage through his mother, and his wife with a bespoke perfume called the First Lady in a custom bottle. In his Sun interview, Mr Trump also said former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson - who disagrees with the PM on Brexit and resigned this week - would make a "great prime minister", adding: "I think he's got what it takes." At the news conference, Mr Trump said he had been responding to the Sun's question about Mr Johnson as a possible prime minister, adding: "He has been
