  3. The new Raspberry Pi Zero W was designed to be a board to make internet-of-things devices, but a key OS from Google won't work on the hardware. Google's Android Things IoT OS will not work with the small developer board, which is partly a wireless board, partly a gadget development tool. The Zero W is priced at US$10. The Zero W has a 1GHz single-core BCM2835 processor, which is based on the ARMv6 architecture. Android Things does not support ARMv6, so the OS will not work on the board. The OS is specially tuned to work with specific chipsets. The BCM2835 chip is the same in the original Raspberry Pi developer boards. The lack of support of Android Things on Zero W isn't a major concern for Eben Upton, the founder of Raspberry Pi Foundation. "We're hopeful that in time Google will resuscitate the ARMv6 support in Android to allow Things to run on Zero W," Upton said. Upton likes the low power consumption and small form factor that comes with using BCM2835, especially when compared to the faster Broadcom chips on the newer and faster, but larger, Raspberry Pi 3. The hardware specs, like the 512MB of memory of the Raspberry Pi Zero W, are reasonable for Android Things, but the BCM2835 SoC isn't supported, said Dave Smith, an IoT developer advocate at Google. "This part is a bit of a problem for Android, as the platform doesn't really support that [ARMv6] architecture anymore," Smith said in a post on the Android Things page on the Google IoT Developers Community page on Google+. Android Things is supported by Raspberry Pi 3 and boards from Intel. The OS is still in preview and has a lot of growth potential with the emergence of IoT devices. No date has been provided for a final version of Android Things, but features like machine-learning are being built into the OS. The OS will eventually support more boards as usage of Android Things expands. Support for ARMv6 has also been pulled from latest Android OS used in mobile devices, considering the architecture is now more than 15 years old. ARM's core architecture is the 64-bit ARMv8, and the chip architecture is still being improved with performance and power-efficiency features. The Pi Zero W competes with other low-cost IoT boards like the $6.99 Orange Pi Zero. The Zero W also competes with po[CENSORED]r wireless boards like Particle Photon and ESP32 boards from Espressif Systems. The Zero W could be picked up by many users as an extension of the main Raspberry Pi 3 board, which has sold in the millions. The Zero W supports Raspbian, a Linux-based OS from Raspberry Pi.

  6. Psyonix's soccer-with-cars game Rocket League grows today with the launch of a new update that adds the cool-looking Dropshot mode that basically reinvents the game. Specifically, the free update lands at 3 PM PT / 6 PM ET / 10 PM GMT, Psyonix said on Twitter. This is Rocket League's latest non-traditional mode, following Hoops (a spin on basketball) and Rumble, which gives you superpowers. There is also a mutator available that lets you play with a hockey puck instead of a ball, with the physics changing accordingly. Dropshot sounds like craziest of the bunch so far, at least in terms of setup. As we reported when the mode was announced earlier this month, matches take place in a hexagonal arena that's divided down the middle and overlaid with a grid of smaller hexagons. There are no fixed goals or scoring areas; instead, players must break through the floor on their opponents' half of the field by knocking the ball downward. You can read GameSpot's previous coverage and watch the video above to learn more about how Dropshot works. Rocket League's new update today also adds Easter-themed items, including an Easter Egg Antenna, Easter Basket Topper, and the Bunny Ears Topper. These items will be distributed randomly as post-game drops for all online playlists, but only until April 17.
  7. Sniper Ghost Warrior 3's open world represents a new step for the series, and now developer CI Games has released a new video to show off how that world changes things up. The video, which you can watch below, also showcases the game's challenge mode and some of the stealth and sniping mechanics seen in the game. Take a look for yourself: Challenge mode is a tougher variant on standard Side Op missions. You might need to take over a base, or infiltrate a heavily defended command room, as in the video. As well as shifting to an open-world, Ghost Warrior 3 is also the first in the series to feature multiplayer. You can read more about all of the major changes in our interview with CI's CEO, Marek Tyminski, or take a look at the game in action with some beta gameplay. The game was recently delayed and will now launch worldwide for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 25. We enjoyed the most recent release in the Ghost Warrior series, with reviewer Brett Todd calling 2013's Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 "a worthy sniping experience." Read our full review here. An unrelated franchise from developer Rebellion Developments called Sniper Elite recently saw its latest release. Sniper Elite 4, which launched in February, fared well in our review: critic Richard Wakeling said the series is finally "living up to its long-standing potential."

  10. After being teased yesterday, Mass Effect: Andromeda's launch trailer has now been released. The video, which you can watch below, sets up the game's plot of humanity desperately searching for new homes. We also get a glimpse of some of Andromeda's worlds, as well as the game's new ship, the Tempest. The video highlights how humanity and Andromeda's other species are capable of working together and fighting each other. It also heavily features the song "Human" by British singer Rag'n'Bone Man. Take a look at the trailer for yourself below. The details keep coming for the sci-fi title, which is now less than two weeks away from being released. It was recently revealed that you can skip the game's multiplayer missions and still gain some of their rewards--find out how here. The game's multiplayer tech test has been canceled, however; developer BioWare said the cancellation was a "long story but right decision for how close we are to [going] live." Although Andromeda won't have a multiplayer beta, a portion of the game will be available for a limited time early via EA Access on Xbox One and Origin Access for PC starting on March 16. BioWare has confirmed that the Access version of the game will let you play multiplayer as much as you want, though single-player will be limited. The full game launches on March 21 (March 23 in Europe) for Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4.
  11. NetherRealm will announce the next character for fighting game sequel Injustice 2 next week. A post on the game's website (via DualShockers) shows that the reveal is slated for Monday, March 13. However, that's all there is to go on, as the image below teasing the reveal doesn't appear to contain any clues. This is the same image used to tease past reveals, though the date is of course different. NetherRealm boss Ed Boon teased the reveal on Twitter, saying he's seen the reveal trailer believes fans will enjoy it. Just saw the next Injustice 2 character reveal video & segment that airs Monday on @UpUpDwnDwn YouTube channel. You're gonna love it! In other news, NetherRealm has confirmed that Swamp Thing will be the focus of an upcoming livestream for Injustice 2 scheduled for March 15. Earlier this week, a new Injustice 2 trailer showed off the characters Captain Cold, Green Lantern, and Green Arrow, though it's not completely clear if they are indeed playable. Confirmed playable characters for Injustice 2 include Doctor Fate, Swamp Thing, Cyborg, Batman, Blue Beetle, The Flash, Harley Quinn, Superman, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Deadshot, Gorilla Grodd, Aquaman, Robin, Cheetah, Brainiac, Bane, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Black Canary, and Atrocitus. Injustice 2 launches for PS4 and Xbox One on May 16. In other news, an Injustice 2 mobile game has been announced, while a new trailer for the console version shows Superman and Batman duking it out. Additionally, NetherRealm recently discussed the game's gear system.
