(CNN)When Fatimetou was 13-years-old she was forced to marry a much older man. She kept running away, but her family kept sending her back. "I could not look at him," says the girl from Mauritania, in west Africa. "And then when I saw his face I thought: 'I really hate that man.'" Her story is not unusual in this part of the world. Briggite, from the Democratic Republic Congo, was 13 when she gave birth. Amina, from Sierra Leone, was 15 when they sold her to a husband. Nafissa was married when she was 16, becoming pregnant three months later. Her first baby was stillborn. These girls -- whose names have been changed to protect their identities -- are just three of millions of child brides across Africa whose lives are permanently altered by harmful cultural practices. In an alarming new study, UNICEF estimates that the total number of child brides in Africa will rise from 125 million to 310 million by 2050. Slow rates of reduction and ballooning po[CENSORED]tions are the main cause of the projected increases. Early marriage is most prevalent in a vast belt across Africa stretching from Somalia in the east to Guinea in the west. Entrenched religious and cultural practices, and limited economic prospects, push girls into the margins and into harmful early marriages. "When you look at the projected numbers, it is particularly alarming to us because we know the impact on a girl who gets married before the age of 18, the impact on her health, the impact on education, the impact on the whole country," Manuel Fontaine, UNICEF's Regional Director for West and Central Africa, told CNN. He says the practice feeds into a cycle of poverty that could be broken by focusing on girls' rights and education. Fontaine adds that the practice is often anchored in cultural tradition, so entire communities need to be mobilized to combat it. On the African continent, declines in child marriage have only occurred in wealthier communities and families, but high levels have persisted amongst the very poorest. "The sheer number of girls affected -- and what this means in terms of lost childhoods and shattered [CENSORED]ures -- underline the urgency of banning the practice of child marriage once and for all," said UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake at the start of a two-day summit in Lusaka, Zambia. He called each individual case a tragedy. Earlier this year, the African Union launched a campaign to end child marriage. But legislation in many countries is often stacked against victims. THERE’S something in the water and it’s turning America mad. Social Justice Warriors (SJWs), groups of mostly young, mostly university students, are waging a bitter war with the cultural establishment of the nation and it’s turning increasingly nasty. Those who proudly adopt the title express a mix of sensitivity to social issues coupled with an aggressive and almost militant outrage at any perceived injustice. But their incendiary tactics have sparked a huge backlash from professors, journalists and commentators around the country as a culture war that has been bubbling under the surface for some time is on the verge of exploding. Those on the other side accuse SJWs of using fear mongering and bullying to police language, enforce censorship and unfairly discredit those who deviate from their position. “If there is any silver lining in this dark cloud, it’s that the social-justice faith is so grim, so angry, and so arrogant that it can prosper only through intimidation and coercion,” conservative columnist David French wrote in the National Review this week. The American political landscape is sharply divided with those on the fringes commanding a vast portion of commentary. While Australians may have viewed the extreme right wing as holding a monopoly over membership to the mad hatters, the SJWs, considered to be on the extreme left, seem intent on balancing the scale. ‘IT IS NOT ABOUT CREATING AN INTELLECTUAL SPACE’ The latest headline-grabbing incident that’s been played out in this war is the cancellation of free yoga classes at Ottaw Because of concerns of cultural appropiation. The backlash to the decision was biting with an online torrent of criticism levelled at the student union’s victory. Even though it took place in Canada, it’s just one of many bitter disputes dividing university campuses across North America. In response, Erika Christakis, a faculty member and administrator at a student residence wrote an email to her resident students on behalf of those who felt “frustrated” by the official advice. “Increasingly, it seems, they (universities) have become places of censure and prohibition,” she wrote. Her email sparked a firestorm of anger and spurred protests that became a massive news story in the US. It’s about creating a home here.” An open letter penned by upset students which accused Ms Christakis’ email of supporting stereotypes that “further degrade marginalised people” attracted a number of perplexed and ridiculing comments. “Stupidity beyond words. So much for free speech, eh?,” wrote one commenter. “As a father I am seriously reconsidering the wisdom of investing in my children’s higher education,” wrote another. Also this month, ongoing protests at Missouri University by students irate over what they saw as insufficient action on stopping racism led to the resignation of both the university president and the school’s chancellor, in what the New York Timesdescribed as a “coup”. Bitter protests lasting months were a product of a number of issues, and at the core of these was a grievance from a group of students that the university didn’t take racial slurs directed at a black student president seriously enough because of institutional racism. A video emerged of students and a faculty member ejecting a student journalist from covering the protests, claiming the photographer was impeding on their “safe space”. The footage sparked heated debate with many accusing the protesters of censorship and bullying.

A PIZZA delivery driver from Tennessee has almost 2000 reasons to be grateful this Thanksgiving. Audrey Martin, a single mother of three children under five, works for Domino’s pizza. On Sunday, she was delivering an order to a local church when she received a tip she never thought possible. “They ordered 10 pizzas and when I got on stage [the pastor] had asked everybody to give me a good tip,” Audrey Martin, 23, of Tennessee told ABC News. “Everybody at the church got up and started handing the preacher money and it was just crazy. So many people got up. They started hugging me, it was just awesome. I couldn’t help but cry. It was just amazing. “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh,” Martin recalled. “I was so nervous because there were so many people out there. I was like, ‘I hope I don’t pass out.” Audrey Martin with her three children. The $A1927 tip couldn’t have come at a better time for the young mum, who had just recently lost her apartment. “It’s going to help a lot,” she said. “Not only with the kids’ Christmas, but I recently lost my apartment. I’m able to get a place for the kids and me, to finally be able to move out of my mom’s house.” “It just makes me feel so blessed,” she added during the interview. “I always give to people. I never ask for anything in return. It’s just a shock that I have received this, especially in my need when everything is hard right now.” Pastor Tony McAfee had previously called the Domino’s store where Martin works, asking the manager if anyone employed there was in particular need of a blessing. “I did not know all of her story. I just thought it would be nice to surprise somebody with a huge tip,” the Pastor said. The Pastor called the manager of the Domino’s pizza store and asked if any of his employees was in need of a blessing. The reason behind the good deed was all part of the Pastor teaching his church a series on generosity. “Of course nobody knew ahead of time of just how much she needed this,” Mr McAfee said, admitting that he was unaware the delivery driver was a single mother. “It was all done quietly and discreetly and it was all spontaneous. When I mentioned we wanted to give this lady a generous tip, people began to run ... to the front and began to throw money on the platform. And they’ve never seen this lady before in their life. “Here’s our motto: What flows from you determines what flows to you,” he said. “A little generosity, no matter what has been going on in your life, no matter how bad things seem to be in the world, generosity dispels darkness.”

(HealthDay News) -- Nearly one in 10 Americans has some type of lifelong drug use disorder, a new federal government survey finds. But only a quarter of them get the treatment they need, researchers said. The findings stem from a large U.S. National Institutes of Health survey. It's the first survey based on updated mental health guidelines that set a higher bar for diagnosing drug addiction than previous guidelines. "But the seriousness and persistence of the situation doesn't appear to have changed all that drastically since our last look at this," said study lead author Bridget Grant. "What we see," Grant added, "is that a little over 23 million Americans are directly affected with a lifelong problem. And many more are affected when you consider that the issue involves not just the user but also the user's family and social network. And on top of that we also see that treatment rates are really not that great." Grant, a senior investigator at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism's Laboratory of Epidemiology and Biometry, and her colleagues discussed the survey results in the Nov. 18 online issue of JAMA Psychiatry. Drug use disorder occurs when the consistent use of a drug "causes clinically and functionally significant impairment, such as health problems, disability, and failure to meet major responsibilities at work, school, or home," according to the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. To get a snapshot of current national drug abuse patterns, the researchers conducted in-person interviews with more than 36,000 adults over age 18 between 2012 and 2013. The survey focused on the use of marijuana, amphetamines, club drugs (such as Ecstasy), cocaine, hallucinogens, heroin, narcotic painkillers, sedatives/tranquilizers and solvents/inhalants. Drug use was assessed collectively, rather than broken down one by one. Drinking patterns weren't assessed at all. Based on survey responses, the investigators determined that the general risk for having a lifelong drug use disorder was highest among whites, Native Americans, men, singles, people between 18 and 44, and those with lower incomes and educational backgrounds. The study also found that people with mental health illnesses, such as depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, personality disorders, anxiety, panic and social disorders were more likely to have a lifelong drug use disorder. The number of Americans estimated to have a lifelong drug use disorder was 10 percent, the study found. Those with a "12-month" drug use disorder -- meaning a current problem during the prior year -- was almost 4 percent, or more than 9 million adults, the researchers said. Less than 14 percent of these people were getting the appropriate treatment for their condition. What's more, the researchers found that those struggling with a drug use disorder who do ultimately get treatment tend to initiate it long after their problem first begins. This means that while drug use disorders tend to first develop at around age 24, the average age of first-time treatment hovers around 28, the study noted. Why? "A lot of people have concerns about the effectiveness of treatment, even though we've made a lot of strides over the past two decades," noted Grant. "And professionals, and even patients themselves, have a lot of problems simply identifying their problem. And also, of course, there's a stigma associated with admitting you have a drug problem. That's still a very, very big problem." Dr. Adam Bisaga, a professor of psychiatry at Columbia University in New York City, thinks that surveys like Grant's could help turn the tide of drug abuse. "The public will probably be surprised to know that the problem is so prevalent," he said, "because stigma keeps people silent and thinking they are all alone. But addiction is a disease with a well-established neurobiology, and treatments are now very effective, and promise a lot of help and relief. So surveys like this are important because they help get the message out that this is an issue that affects millions of people. And that in and of itself will help to abolish the stigma that surrounds the disease."

The tips offered by Dr. Gordon Strauss, a psychiatrist specializing in smoking cessation at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, might help you prepare for the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout on Nov. 19. First, you need to change the way you smoke, Strauss said. Instead of smoking whenever you feel like it, start smoking on a regular schedule. This will help separate your smoking from its triggers, he explained. Consider using approved anti-smoking medications, and get support from a "quit buddy" or an online group, he suggested. "Stay away from smokers. Watching someone light up and inhaling secondhand smoke are triggers for most smokers. If you live with a smoker, let them know you are trying to quit smoking and negotiate some rules about where they will smoke, so that you can keep your distance," Strauss said in a hospital news release. It's also important to manage stress by doing some stress-reducing activities every day, such as meditation, stretching or taking deep breaths. Stress is a major trigger for many smokers, he added. Also, set a quit date and put it on your schedule so you can prepare for it. Get rid of smoking-related items such as ashtrays and lighters. Decide on a mantra you can repeat to yourself when you're tempted by cigarettes, such as "I'm a nonsmoker" or "I want to live." "Take care of yourself," Strauss said. "Part of many 12-step programs is the concept of 'HALT' -- never let yourself get too Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired. This is just one quick way to remember to put your basic needs first. Don't use a cigarette as a substitute for tending to yourself." If you don't succeed in quitting on your first few attempts, don't give up. Keep putting quit dates on your calendar and trying new approaches to quitting, he said.

There, at least 89 people lost their lives when they were shot by black-clad gunmen wielding AK-47s and wearing suicide vests. The attackers stormed into the hall and fired calmly and methodically at hundreds of screaming concert-goers, who were watching the US rock group Eagles of Death Metal playing to a full house of 1,500 people. They began a siege that would last two hours and forty minutes. Two of the militants blew up their explosive belts as heavily armed anti-terror police ended the siege at around 12.30am. A third was shot by officers. Terrifying details have emerged of the police assault on the Islamist attackers. The first policeman to get there arrived at 10pm, about 20 minutes after the three gunmen burst into the concert hall last Friday night and began methodically killing fans who had turned out to watch the Eagles of Death Metal group. At around 10.15 pm a heavily armed Swat team arrived and entered the building. The attackers had by then retreated to an upper floor. The police evacuated all the people they found and then, in two columns, went up the stairs to the right and the left of the auditorium. As they progressed terrified people emerged from cupboards and other hiding places where they had taken cover. “They came out like zombies. They were in a terrible state and could hardly walk,” said one officer involved in the raid, named only as Jean. At 20 minutes past midnight the order was given to start the final assault. The police burst open the door and, protected by a heavy metal shield, being advancing down the corridor that was revealed to be full of about 20 hostages. The attackers opened fire immediately but the police unit kept advancing, with officers rushing screaming hostages out as they went forward. When finally they were face to face with the attackers, the police threw a stun grenade as they blasted their guns at the Islamists. One attacker went down, and then the other detonated his suicide vest, blowing both their bodies to pieces. The assault had lasted three minutes. The match had continued, with many attributing the initial noises to fireworks, but word soon spread of what had taken place outside the stadium, as people read updates on their mobile phones. One Briton - Nick Alexander - has been confirmed by family to have lost his life at the Bataclan. At least 89 people were killed in the concert hall. A little further east at least 19 people died when the terrace of the La Belle Equipe in Rue de Charonne was sprayed with gunfire, while 15 people were killed at Le Carillon bar-cafe in Rues Bichat. Five people at the Casa Nostra pizzeria and a nearby bar were killed by attackers wielding rifles. The Belgian connection The Molenbeek area of Brussels has continued to see a major crackdown with raids continuing overnight and throughout the day yesterday. On Sunday afternoon, French media reported that three brothers may be involved in the attacks and one may remain at large. They are said to be: Ibrahim Abdeslam - suicide bomber Ibrahim Abdeslam was a suicide bomebr who blew himself up outside the Comptoir Voltaire restaurant in Paris. He rented the Seat Leon which was found abandoned in a Paris suburb with Kalashnikovs inside. Salah Abdeslam - on the run There is an international arrest warrant out for Salah Abdeslam - a French national who rented a black VW Polo in Belgium which was found abandoned near the Bataclan concert hall. He was stopped near the Belgian border on Saturday morning in a grey VW golf also carrying two accomplices, but was not arrested at the time. The wanted poster for Salah Abdeslam, wanted in connection with the terror attacks in Paris The third brother, Mohamed Abdeslam, was arrested on Saturday in Brussels but was released on Monday without charge. He has since released a statement saying he had no idea that his brothers had been radicalised. He said: "My parents are truly shocked. I am thinking of the victims. I did not know that they had been radicalised." On Tuesday, he called for his brother- suspect Salah Abdeslam - to turn himself in. French media reported on Tuesday Salah Abdeslam that he rented two rooms in Alfortville, near Paris. According to news channel BFM TV, he used a credit card to rent the flat and police say there is evidence he was not alone. It is reported at least two others stayed with him. Le Point claims it has exclusive video inside the rooms which are sparse with pizza boxes and syringes lying around. Brother of two Paris attack suspects Mohammed Abdeslam was arrested and then let go by the police. Here, he speaks outside the family home Who were the other terrorists? Omar Ismail Mostefai, 29, was identified by his finger, which was found among the rubble of the Bataclan concert hall. Police say he was one of three men who blew himself up killing 89 people in the bloodiest scene of the carnage. His father and brother, who handed himself in, are in custody and police are searching the family's home and the homes of his friends. His brother told AFP that he had not seen Mostefai for years and said the attacks were "madness". A video uncovered by French news outlet BFMTV seems to show Paris attacker Omar Mustefai performing rap music Born on November 21 1985, in the poor Paris suburb of Courcouronnes, Mostefai's criminal record shows eight convictions for petty crimes between 2004 and 2010, but no jail time. Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said Mostefai had been singled out as a high-priority target for radicalisation in 2010 but, before Friday, he had "never been implicated in an investigation or a terrorist association". Investigators are now probing whether he took a trip to Syria last year, according to police sources. Bilal Hadfi blew himself up outside gate H of the Stade de France. He is said to have fought with Isil in Syria, and came from Belgium. A teacher at a school he attended told the Telegraph Hadfi, 20, was an unambitious loner who wanted to be a lorry driver after failing his exams. Ahmad Al Mohammad died in a suicide bomb at the Stade de France. A Syrian passport bearing his name was found at the scene. The 25-year-old was born in Idlib, a city in north-west Syria, and the Paris prosecutor's office said fingerprints from the attacker match those of a person who travelled through Greece last month. Sami Amimour was one of the suicide bombers who blew himself up at the Bataclan music hall, the Paris prosecutor's office said. A 28-year-old Frenchman, he was known to French intelligence services. He was charged with terror offences in 2012 and was placed under judicial supervision. But he later disappeared and an international arrest warrant was issued for him. Three of his relatives were arrested early today, prosecutors said. Belgian Abdelhamid Abaaoud was named by a French official as the suspected mastermind of the Paris attacks. The official said he has been linked to thwarted attacks on a Paris-bound high-speed train and a church in the Paris area. Raid targeting Abdelhamid Abaaoud Two terror suspects have been killed and seven arrested in a raid by elite French SWAT forces at Saint Denis, a north-eastern Paris suburb targeting Abaaoud. A female suicide bomber blew herself up seconds after police opened fire at around 4.20am local time in du Courbillon in the multi-ethnic working class district that is a stone’s throw from the Stade de France – where three suicide bombers blew themselves up on Friday outside a France-Germany friendly football game attended by president Francois Hollande. A police sniper shot dead a second suspect later on. Unconfirmed reports said a third terrorist was killed. Police arrested three men they found in the apartment but there has no been no confirmation as to who they were. At least one, perhaps two suspects are reportedly still holed up in the apartment. Police came under heavy Kalashnikov fire when they initially tried to enter the flat. Three officers suffered light injuries in the operation that was still ongoing at 9.30 am local time, six hours after it began. Police also arrested a man and woman near the location of the raid. Terrorists plotted second attack at La Defense and Charles de Gaulle airport The terror suspects killed and arrested on Wednesday were in the final stages of carrying out an "imminent" attack at Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport, which is near Saint-Denis, and a shopping centre in La Défense, the capital's business district, according to France 2, the main state broadcaster. Citing police sources, France 2 said investigators believe the Saint-Denis suspects formed part of a "fourth team" on top of the three that took part in Friday's attacks in Paris and the Stade de France, which killed 129. As well as the airport, the terrori suspects had intended to strike the Quatre Temps shopping centre in La Défense, to the West of the capital. On Wednesday morning, police searched two locations at Roissy, including the cargo branch of Air France. However the Paris airport security authority said these had "no direct link to the terror attacks but had other aims, notably the search for elements linked to the phenomenon of radicalisation", without providing more details. Earlier, bomb threats forced two Air France flights bound from America for Paris to be diverted on Tuesday night. An Air France jet from Los Angeles International Airport landed in Salt Lake City, while another from Washington Dulles International Airport landed in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The aircraft were searched after they landed and no explosives were found on either plane, police and airport officials said. The flights were "subjects of anonymous threats received by phone after takeoff," Air France spokesperson Christophe Paumier said. Were there 20 attackers? With seven suicide bombers dead, seven others under arrest and at least one man on the run, 15 men have so far been linked to the Paris attacks. But CCTV footage suggests that there may have been a ninth attacker, who is still at large. And Belgian intelligence officials have suggested that up to 20 people may have been part of the terrorist cell that planned the attacks. One attacker found with Syrian passport A passport found near one of the suicide bombers at the Stade de France bore the name of Ahmad al-Mohammad. It was used to register a refugee on the Greek island of Leros on October 3, and was then traced to Macedonia and an asylum claim in Serbia. American intelligence officials have reported that the passport was clearly fake, based on the sequence of its serial number, something not apparently picked up on as its holder made his way through Europe. The Paris prosecutor has said the fate of the suspected organiser of Friday's attacks remains unknown after a police raid on a flat ended in bloodshed. Francois Molins told reporters Abdelhamid Abaaoud was not among eight people arrested during the raid in the Paris suburb of Saint Denis. However, human remains found in the rubble of the flat had still to be identified, he said. A woman blew herself up and another suspect was shot dead during the raid. 3 AMD R9 380X GPU pictured It is rumored that AMD will launch their R9 380X will launching within the next week with 4GB of GDDR5 Memory, meaning that it will only be using a 256-bit memory bus instead of the silicon's full 384-bit memory bus like was previously though. This will mean that the new GPU can be made using the same, or lightly modified versions of the PCBs used for producing AMD's existing R9 380 GPUs, which will allow this GPU to be made at a reduced cost. Sadly this will mean that the GPUs full 384-bit bus size will not be used by the GPU, which will reduce this GPUs maximum memory bandwidth and mean that it will have to be used with a lower amount of memory. This chip will take advantage of the price gap which is between Nvidia's GTX 960 and GTX 970 GPUs and should fit neatly between AMD's existing R9 380 and R9 390 GPUs.
