Gio Corsi, Director of Third Party Production at Sony Computer America, just announced during the PlayStation Experience keynote that Yakuza Zero is finally coming to the West in 2016. Yakuza Zero, as suggested by the title, is a prequel to the Yakuza series (developed and published by SEGA), taking place in December 1988. The game originally released in Japan for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on 12 March, 2015. As in all franchise titles, the main protagonist is Kazuma Kiryu of the Tojo clan. Gio Corsi also announced that Yakuza 5 will be available for PlayStation 3 on December 8 via PSN. We still have few information, but this is it guys: Yakuza ZERO is coming to the West in 2016! The news came during Sony’s PlayStation Experience 2015 keynote, along with the announcement of Yakuza 5’s release date. As with Yakuza 5, Yakuza ZERO is being brought to the West with the help of Gio Corsi and its Sony Third Party Studio.

Hard West, at first glance, appears to be a combination of X-Com meets Sergio Leone meets Supernatural. The west is a huge setting that is grossly underutilised and features in some of the best games you’re likely to play, from the likes of Red Dead Redemption, GUN and Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. It makes me wish that Hard West was a little more grounded than the bewildering lunacy it delves into. In reality you’re more likely to find that Hard West shares more in common with the Jagged Alliance style of isometric turn-based combat but sadly with none of the continuity. There are a combination of short stories, connected to each other as sequels, prequels and offshoots, in what turns out to be a series of bewildering events. The problem is that these sections of the campaign may share characters, areas and lay in the same continuity, but everything you’ve done in the previous one, two or even five campaigns is rendered moot by the fact that any items bought, any cards gained and all the experience obtained is lost to the ether and you are left to start again. What makes this all the more disappointing is that Hard West clearly wants to makes your decisions matter in the way it gives you choices with their consequences. This is where the supernatural element is introduced. The introductory story dabbles a little, with side stories about men having their eyes sewn shut but are still totally aware or selling a part of yourself for increased power. Soon after, though, you’ll find yourself having sold your soul to the devil who resurrects you from the grave, leaving you to a path of vengeance and hundreds of dead bodies. It goes deeper from there. Alongside the new mini-story, each of the campaign sections offer a new overhead map with new locations to visit. What tends to add to the disjointed feeling of the campaign is that they offer a new feature, or possibly just a gimmick, taken right out of the Wild West handbook of tropes. One will have you digging for gold while another will have you leading an expedition. Another tasks you with scraping by and holding back hunger and of course you won’t miss out on the most po[CENSORED]r theme, the wanderer seeking vengeance. What happens to be the problem is that all of these as stories just feel a little weak. The lack of continuity removes all fear of making the wrong decision after the very first scenario is finished. If there’s nothing carried over then what does it matter, beyond getting a specific achievement, what choice you make? It doesn’t. It’s also hard to care about the death of old man Murray or your reason for hunting The Masked Man when the characterisation is less than that of the toast you had for breakfast. I’m possibly being a little harsh when the whole idea of these games tends to be that you make your own story and to be fair, the main cast do tend to be interesting as the game moves through the scenarios. There would probably be a lot more heft to the story, if the game hadn’t given as much freedom as it actually did. What I mean by this is the inclusion of a world map in each of the scenarios. As previously mentioned, it gave me side-stories, things to explore and the added on feature. However, it never really mattered what part of the primary story I was, since I could stop off and do as much as I wanted without any real progression taking place. On the very rare occasions Hard West finally decided that it was fed up of just waiting, it never really knew what to do with itself and led to utterly bewildering moments. One instance was in the very first story. Having been attacked by raiders, the objective was to head to your neighbours and find out if your sister was okay. At this point in time you are also being taxed on what gold you uncover by the local Mexican mobster. I kept on digging for gold and ignored the sister. However, the game decided it was fed up of waiting and the story advanced with the sister going to the mobster and trying to talk to him, getting kidnapped in the process. I then decided to go to the neighbours, where my sister was still there waiting for me. Turned out I ended up rescuing my sister while my sister was in the party, shooting herself out of a locked room. It’s a shame because Hard West really shines in anything related to combat. Character development is based around the aforementioned cards that are gained at the end of every fight. Each card has a benefit or offers an ability for you to use. Up to five cards can be held at any one time, but you can only get more than one cards benefit if they are from the same suite. Further benefits are gained if you manage to get a poker hand using them. There’s also a good variety of weapons, from close range shotguns to long range elephant guns and extra benefits can be gained from consumables and armor. This all contributes to an extremely solid combat system that veterans of X-COM, XCOM or the older Jagged Alliance fans will be familiar with. The cover system, using full, half and no cover, is brought over in the same form that you would expect. Turns take place in the same sort of two-action phase and you always have to pay attention to your ammo counter, reloading out in the open is a sure-fire death sentence. Indeed, it’s the threat of death that made the combat all that more compelling. While your characters aren’t the most developed and I certainly didn’t care about them as much as I did my hand-reared teams in such as Jagged Alliance and XCOM, the lack of mid-battle save system and my use of Iron Man mode – the death of a story centric character in battle forces you to restart the whole scenario – made the fights that much more tense. Hard West is an unusual title. The budget limitations are shown with the bland visuals, but surprisingly made up for by the understated yet excellent voice acting. The core game isn’t quite revolutionary, but there’s little need to reinvent the wheel when you can perfect it. That’s what Hard West seems to have done. It lacks any features that can surprise you, but what it does have is polished to a diamond like shine.

Tecmo-Koei announced at Sony’s pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference today that Ni-Oh, a title originally announced for the PlayStation 3, is coming to PlayStation 4 next year. Japanese Magazine Famitsu in its latest issue, featured an article on NiOh, with some screenshots, as well as a few details on the game. Tecmo Koei is targeting 60 FPS, an understandable choice, given the fast pace of Ninja Team’s previous Ninja Gaiden titles. Even though the methodical fighting of a Samurai is somewhat slower paced than a Ninja’s, the game would benefit immensely from the higher framerate, as it would allow for telegraphing moves and assist in the strategical approach that the game seems to follow.

Origin announced its Origin PC EON17-X this past June, giving PC gamers around the world a reason to show some interest in the gaming laptop. Considering G-Sync technology was only previously available for desktop machines, delivering a gaming laptop with the feature is a pretty big deal as it can keep tearing and screen stutter to a minimum while you’re on the go. The EON17-X has all the bells and whistles those who take their PC gaming serious would want in a gaming laptop. And while it performs to the degree I expected it to, I didn't expect it to underperform as much as it did in certain aspects. Heavy-duty Gaming The EON17-X is considered a desktop replacement, which means you shouldn’t expect to do any serious traveling with it. Weighing in at 8.6lbs, it’s quite a heavy gaming laptop, but considering how much is stuffed within its chassis, I’m impressed Origin was able to put so much into such a small space. Stuffing an Intel i7 6700K CPU into the EON17-X alone should is an impressive feat, considering it’s only ever been made available for desktop computers. And what makes the CPU even more enticing is the fact it’s been overclocked to 4.5GHz. While the laptop itself is on the larger side, it uses its space well as it features a 17.3-inch 1080p IPS Matte Display, a full sized keyboard with customizable backlight, and a multi-gesture trackpad. The keyboard was comfortable to write on as it had just the right amount of sponginess and clickiness for my taste, and I really enjoyed the custom backlighting since I was able to have it display a wide variety of colors. It wasn’t to the quality I’d expect from an RGB keyboard, but I was still impressed with its ability to add just a bit of visual spice to its overall black and rigid body. The trackpad, on the other hand, was more of a nuisance than anything else. Instead of being placed in the middle of the palm rests, it’s positioned slightly to the left. Having it in that position has caused my left palm to come into contact with the trackpad too often. Other than its frustrating positioning, the trackpad had a smooth surface, which I always prefer over one with texture to it, and it even had a fingerprint reader in the middle, which performed very well as I was able to capture all of my fingertips within its system. Now if I lose nine of my fingers, I’ll at least have one more available to unlock this laptop. Performance at a Cost With an Intel i7 6700K overclocked at 4.5GHz and an Nvidia GTX 980M, the EON17-X performed just as well as I expected it to in our benchmarks. In PCMark 7, it scored a 6513, which is on the higher end of the gaming laptop spectrum, while in 3DMark 11, it scored a P11423 and an X4331. It’s 3DMark 11 scores are also very good as it nearly reaches performance levels that can run the Oculus Rift, which is very impressive for a gaming laptop. In my time with the EON17-X, I played the latest releases, including Fallout 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Across the board, the laptop performed flawlessly as I was able to push it to give me a smooth gaming experience in everything I threw at it. While getting Fallout 4 to perform well was a breeze considering its recommended specs, getting The Witcher 3 to perform at Full 1080p with all of its details maxed out is even more impressive. When it comes to gaming on the go, battery life may be just as important as the performance you can get out of a machine. While the EON17-X exceeds in its performance, it fails in its ability to stay on for long periods of time. On a single charge, I was able to achieve a little over two hours of battery life when using it for everyday tasks, such as email, social networking, and watching videos on YouTube. When I played a game on it, the battery life dropped significantly as I was only able to get around 30 - 45 minutes of game time while running several games on their highest visual settings. So if you plan on taking your gaming on your commute, it better be a quick one or else you’ll find yourself with a nearly nine-pound paperweight. Homebody Even though the EON17-X is categorized as a laptop, I can’t imagine myself lugging it around on a daily basis. Instead, I could easily see myself propping this on my office desk and treating it like a desktop while also saving some space from having a full-sized desktop set up. And if I need to travel with it, it’ll be at short distances where I can throw it in my car to visit friends and family while also showing off this beast of a laptop. One caveat that keeps me from wanting to travel with the EON17-X is its very short battery life. I feel like it wasn’t really built with traveling in mind as getting to play a game for under an hour while on the go doesn’t warrant having to lug it around for several hours. With all that said, as long as you keep the laptop at home and close to its power adapter, you're going to get some serious performance that should be able to keep up with your gaming habits for a couple of years. System Specs CPU: Intel i7 6700K overclocked to 4.5GHz GPU: Nvidia GTX 8GB 980M Display: 1920 x 1080p IPS Matte Display Memory: 16GB DDR4 2133MHz Storage: 1TB Seagate Mobile SSHD OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OS Drive: 256GB Samsung SM951 PCie M.2 Lifetime 24/7 Based Support and Lifetime Free Labor. 1 year Part Replacement & 45 day shipping warranty 45 Day No Dead Pixel Guarantee Free

Just Cause 3 is the explosive sequel to Avalanche’s story of Dictator-removal specialist Rico Rodriguez. This time, however, he isn’t simply facing off against another tyrant. Rico has returned home to Medici, a country he was banished from, to help his friends throw down their own evil tyrant named Sebastian Di Ravello, and restore control to his once peaceful home. With over four hundred square miles to explore, and cause chaos, Just Cause 3 is an bombastic adventure just asking to be savored. Welcome Home Rico Just Cause 3 begins in typical Just Cause fashion. Thrust right into the action, players are instantly given a taste of what the game has to offer, before being thrown headfirst into the game’s evolving storyline. It’s a more fast-paced entry point than most games tend to offer these days, and it really helps to hit home with the level of destruction and chaos that players will be able to cause. From here players will be introduced to the Just Cause staples, the parachute and grappling hook. But the nifty gadgets don’t stop there, as players will also pick up the wingsuit within the first fifteen to twenty minutes of game time. This means you’ll effectively have every form of transportation you need early on in the game, which keeps the pace rapid from the very beginning. Shock and Awesome Even for a series defined by causing mayhem and explosions, Just Cause 3 delivers. Armed with infinite C4, and many more explosive throwing weapons, Rico is ready to take down any chaos items he comes across--and they are everywhere. This time around Avalanche has taken a new approach to the towns and cities pockmarking the islands of Medici. Now responsible for liberating the towns, Rico must destroy every Chaos object within the town’s border. Then, and only then, can he place a rebel flag over the town, which marks it as a free city. You’ll then have to continue to do this until you’ve liberated the surrounding region and province, which will weaken Di Ravello’s hold on the nation. It can prove annoying when campaign progress is gated behind liberating areas, but the core loop of causing chaos is so enjoyable that it's easy to overlook. What could have been a tedious exercise in busywork instead felt like gentle pathing toward the requisite insane combat and destruction scenarios. This is a series all about wanton havoc, and Just Cause 3 captures that perfectly. All the open-world freedom and gameplay tools come at a slight cost, though. I experienced a few graphical glitches, and the ragdoll effects had a tendency to occasionally go overboard. Wingsuit Extraordinaire The most prominent new mechanic, the wingsuit, is one of the most useful items in the entire game, and helps further refine an already smartly realized traversal system. Not only can you wingsuit down mountainsides and experience beautifully crafted vistas, but you can also use it to quickly infiltrate and exfiltrate towns and fortresses as you work to liberate Medici. Pair the wingsuit up with the grappling hook, and you can find yourself soaring through the skies of Medici for extended periods of time. My longest record so far is around ten and a half minutes, and I’m sure it's possible to go even longer. All round the wingsuit is a nice addition to the Just Cause armory, and I’ve really enjoyed my time with it. I have had a few gripes with it though, as you can’t simply stop using the wingsuit, instead needing to open your parachute to end it. This small difference makes precise landings almost impossible. This isn't altogether a huge issue, but having a grappling hook I'd expect Rico to be able to close his wingsuit and reel himself in, which I haven't been able to do. The assortment of different mods available throughout the game's many challenges also spices things up, allowing you to have homing grenades, thruster C4, and an assortment of other options that help to keep the carnage from growing dull. Toppling Tyrants Rico’s latest adventure is a welcome addition to the Just Cause family. There is plenty of destruction to cause, and plenty of room to explore the world however you want to. It’s a welcome amount of freedom from the action-packed linear games we seem to have gotten used to, and I’d easily rank it among the best of the open world games that the current generation of gaming has to offer.Just Cause 3 is more than worthy of sitting on your shelf next to games like The Witcher 3 and Fallout 4, so don't miss out on this action-packed ride.

To display a picture of any size on a computer screen is a difficult process. Computer graphics are used to simplify this process. Various algorithms and techniques are used to generate graphics in computers. This tutorial will help you understand how all these are processed by the computer to give a rich visual experience to the user. Audience This tutorial has been prepared for students who don’t know how graphics are used in computers. It explains the basics of graphics and how they are implemented in computers to generate various visuals. Prerequisites Before you start proceeding with this tutorial, we assume that you are already aware of the basic concepts of C programming language and basic mathematics. Computer graphics is an art of drawing pictures on computer screens with the help of programming. It involves computations, creation, and mani[CENSORED]tion of data. In other words, we can say that computer graphics is a rendering tool for the generation and mani[CENSORED]tion of images. Cathode Ray Tube The primary output device in a graphical system is the video monitor. The main element of a video monitor is the Cathode Ray Tube (CRT), shown in the following illustration. The operation of CRT is very simple − The electron gun emits a beam of electrons (cathode rays). The electron beam passes through focusing and deflection systems that direct it towards specified positions on the phosphor-coated screen. When the beam hits the screen, the phosphor emits a small spot of light at each position contacted by the electron beam. It redraws the picture by directing the electron beam back over the same screen points quickly. There are two ways (Random scan and Raster scan) by which we can display an object on the screen. Raster Scan In a raster scan system, the electron beam is swept across the screen, one row at a time from top to bottom. As the electron beam moves across each row, the beam intensity is turned on and off to create a pattern of illuminated spots. Picture definition is stored in memory area called the Refresh Buffer or Frame Buffer. This memory area holds the set of intensity values for all the screen points. Stored intensity values are then retrieved from the refresh buffer and “painted” on the screen one row (scan line) at a time as shown in the following illustration. Each screen point is referred to as a pixel (picture element) or pel. At the end of each scan line, the electron beam returns to the left side of the screen to begin displaying the next scan line. Random Scan (Vector Scan) In this technique, the electron beam is directed only to the part of the screen where the picture is to be drawn rather than scanning from left to right and top to bottom as in raster scan. It is also called vector display, stroke-writing display, or calligraphic display. Picture definition is stored as a set of line-drawing commands in an area of memory referred to as the refresh display file. To display a specified picture, the system cycles through the set of commands in the display file, drawing each component line in turn. After all the line-drawing commands are processed, the system cycles back to the first line command in the list. Random-scan displays are designed to draw all the component lines of a picture 30 to 60 times each second. Application of Computer Graphics Computer Graphics has numerous applications, some of which are listed below − Computer graphics user interfaces (GUIs) − A graphic, mouse-oriented paradigm which allows the user to interact with a computer. Business presentation graphics − "A picture is worth a thousand words". Cartography − Drawing maps. Weather Maps − Real-time mapping, symbolic representations. Satellite Imaging − Geodesic images. Photo Enhancement − Sharpening blurred photos. Medical imaging − MRIs, CAT scans, etc. - Non-invasive internal examination. Engineering drawings − mechanical, electrical, civil, etc. - Replacing the blueprints of the past. Typography − The use of character images in publishing - replacing the hard type of the past. Architecture − Construction plans, exterior sketches - replacing the blueprints and hand drawings of the past. Art − Computers provide a new medium for artists. Training − Flight simulators, computer aided instruction, etc. Entertainment − Movies and games. Simulation and modeling − Replacing physical modeling and enactments

Facebook has so far provided the opportunity to perform live transmissions from the smartphone only celebrities via the Mentions, but now starting to launch this feature and to the end users. Along with new capabilities designed as a response to the Periscope site from Twitter, Facebook introduces possibilities to achieve collage photo / video animated. Both features will be rolled out gradually, initially debuting in the United States and currently only the iOS platform. Performing live transmissions is very simple. You can start to communicate through a video stream in real time by simply publishing a new status by choosing the new "Live Video". You can broadcast using any smartphone cameras, and friends can comment in real time. At the end of transmission, the video will remain saved on your personal Timeline to be viewed by those who were not online at the time. To ensure the po[CENSORED]rity of this feature, there is the possibility to subscribe to transmissions friends prefer to receive notification each time you start a livestream. The second new feature of the Facebook app for iOS is publishing photo collages. This can be done simply using the integration with the iPhone photo album. Facebook automatically detects several photographs taken in a particular event and suggests publishing them in one post. They can be rearranged and resized and include the possibility along with a title and location, and also offers the ability to tag people in photos. The collages will be launched more quickly than live transmissions and will begin to appear in the iOS app from today. Those who use Facebook on Android will have to wait a while to get access to these functions. While collages have already been confirmed for the beginning of 2016, the company currently says nothingabout the availability of live broadcasts on the Google platform.

Introduction The hardware world might be ever changing, but we as consumers don't always necessarily have the finances available to purchase the latest technologies the moment they appear. This means that, in general, when reviewing something we avoid taking the price too much into consideration, or mention it too early in the review, because by the time someone comes to see what to spend their hard earned money upon the prices will have changed dramatically. However, sometimes a product arrives where the price is such a dominating feature that it would be doing a great disservice to not place it front and centre. The Crucial BX200 SSD we have for review today is listed as a 960GB drive, but it's near as dammit a terabyte. At the time of writing the retail price is £220. Let that sink in. It wasn't that long ago that a Solid State Drive was an OS drive. At £2 per GB, and very very recently a Quid a Gig, only the most well-heeled user could afford something you could stick a few games on, let alone one so big that you could forget about a mechanical. Crucial, backed by Micron, have managed to squeeze so much capacity at such an affordable price that unless the drive is a complete dog it's the kind of thing that needs no more words from us before you rush to purchase one. This is a review though, not an article, so let's get to reviewing. Technical Specifications The BX200 is available in three capacities, but with the smallest one being still a beefy 240GB there is no difference in the speeds of the relative sizes. Although given that the 960GB model on test today is only a couple of hundred, a 120GB drive would probably have to be given away with a box of cornflakes.

Over the years, GIGABYTE has released many products that are good, and many other products that are good AND focused on overclocking (think their SOC Force motherboards). One thing we haven’t seen on from them, on that front, is within their GPU lineup. Sure, the Windforce line is more than solid with the cooler, but their new Extreme line should take their video cards to another level. GIGABYTE promises a better overclocking GPU with their sorting technology, dubbed Gauntlet sorting, high factory overclocks, good cooling, durability, protection, and being “Xtreme” friendly. Let’s take a look and see what they did on the GTX 970 Extreme we have to review! Specifications & Features Below is a list of specifications and features from the GIGABYTE media kit. We all know the GTX 970 silicon (GM-204) comes to the table with its 28 nm process, so we will just get into the card’s specifications. The base clock comes in at 1190 MHz, with a ‘base’ boost of 1342 MHz. This is a difference of 139 MHz on the base clock from the reference design GTX 970s, so it is a pretty healthy boost. The memory comes in at 7.1 Gbps or 1774 MHz ‘non DDR5’ rates which rests on the 256 bit bus. For I/O, there are DL DVI-I, HDMI, and three DisplayPorts. GIGABYTE recommends a 600 W PSU for this card (though I feel that is really overestimating unless you are truly going extreme and modifying the BIOS – more on that later). More details can be found at the GIGABYTE webpage for the GTX 970 Extreme. GIGABYTE GTX 970 Extreme Specifications Chipset: GeForce GTX 970 Core Clock: Base/Boost clock: 1190/1342 MHz (ref: 1051/1178) Process Technology: 28 nm Memory Clock: 7.1 Gbps (ref: 7 Gbps) Memory Size: 4GB Memory Bus: 256-bit Memory Type: GDDR5 Card Bus: PCIe 3.0 Direct X / Open GL: DX12 / 4.5 Max Resolution (Digital / Analog): 4096 x 2160 / 2048 x 1536 Multi-View: 4 I/O: Dual-Link DVI-I (1) / HDMI (1) / DisplayPort (3) Power Requirement: 600 W (with two 8-pin external power connectors) Below is a list of features from GIGABYTE’s media guide. With the Extreme series comes a set of mostly unique features on their cards. The first is their GPU Gauntlet Sorting. This alludes to the fact that the GPUs are binned better than some other series, but the tangible differences are in the hardware used. It has a total of 12 phases for power to assist with higher overclocking capability and needs versus the reference models with half that. It comes with better, Titan X grade, chokes and capacitors for cooler running and more durability. A high-end overclocked GPU deserves a great cooler when you can pump more volts through it, and GIGABYTE doesn’t disappoint here. They use their venerable Windforce 3 cooling system that has composite copper heat-pipes, a special fin architecture, unique fan blade design (delivers 23% more airflow via special triangle design at the end of the fans which is then directed through the fan by a “3D stripe curve”). Like a lot of manufacturers, GIGABYTE’s Windforce 3 cooler uses what they call 3D-Active Fan which leaves the fans off until higher loads or temperatures hit the card, 60 °C in this case. You can see the fan’s status by looking at the two LEDs on the stop of the card. One says “stop”, the other says “silent” to display which mode it is in/the fans are moving or not. Next up is something that benefits everyone, but in particular the extreme crowd that will want to take this card cold… it has a conformal coating! This coating helps keep moisture, corrosion, and dust off the PCB. I don’t recall ever seeing a GPU with a conformal coating before. We have seen a motherboard with it (ASRock OC Formula series), but not a GPU. Another cool value-add on the GIGABYTE 970 Extreme is the PCIe smart detection LEDs that are on the PCIe power leads. If there is any instability in the power or no power at all, the LED will flash letting you know there is an issue. It also logs the information into their overclocking software, OC Guru II, which will further aid in troubleshooting problems with the device. Wrapping up some of the major features, we end with GIGABYTE’s Ultra Durable VGA designation. This entails 2 oz of copper on the PCB, solid caps, metal chokes, and upgraded MOSFETs (lower RDSon). There are all kinds of goodies on here to help get the most out of the silicon on the board, that is for sure! You can find a more complete list on their website (images also Courtesy of GIGABYTE). GPU Gauntlet™ Sorting Forged with only the top-notch GPU, the GIGABYTE XTREME GAMING graphics cards guarantee the higher overclocking capability in terms of excellent power switching, ensuring the highest performance without compromising system reliability. WINDFORCE 3X Cooling System The WINDFORCE 3X cooling system features with composite copper heat-pipes, special fin architecture, unique blade fan design, and GIGABYTE ‘Triangle Cool’ technology, together delivering an effective heat dissipation capacity for higher performance at lower temperature.3D-Active Fan with LED Indicators GIGABYTE’s XTREME GAMING graphics cards are equipped with 3D-Active Fan, the industry’s first 0dB semi-passive fan design introduced by GIGABYTE back in 2007. The fans will remain off when the GPU is under a set loading or temperature for low power gaming. Besides, LED fan indicators on the top of the graphics card provide an instant display of whether the fans are spinning or not. Aerospace-grade PCB Coating for Best Protection PCB applied with a breathable aerospace-grade coating to shield against moisture, dust, and corrosion for a complete protection. PCIE smart power detection with LED indicators Be alert when PCI-E voltage is unstable with the smart power LED indicators. Any power abnormality is also recorded in the system through OC GURU utility software for troubleshooting. 12-phase power design and Titan X-grade Chocks and Capacitors Built for extreme overclocking with 12 power phases backed by highest-grade chokes and capacitors for supreme durability. GPU-Z Next is our always gratuitous screenshot of GPUz to validate the specifications… and it does! The GTX 970 works on the GM204 core which sports a total of 1664 shaders with a pixel fill rate of 66.6 GPixel/s and a texture fillrate of 123.8 GTexel/s. ROPs and TMUs come in at 56 and 104 respectively. The memory totals 4 GB of Elpida based GDDR5 on the 256 bit bus. It comes in at a clock speed of 1774 MHz (7100 MHz GDDR5) which translates to 227.1 GB/s bandwidth. Stock clocks are 1190 MHz core that boosts to at least 1342 MHz (1443 MHz actual sustained). GPUz v8.6 Photo Op – Meet the GIGABYTE GTX 970 Extreme Retail Packaging and Accessories In the slideshow, you will first notice the retail packaging for the Extreme series of cards is a bit different than their normal line. Here we have a black on orange theme with the GIGABYTE Extreme Gaming symbol prominently placed on the front of the package. Also, on the front, is the model of the card inside, as well as a couple of its high-level features. The back of the box goes into more details we went over above such as the 3D-Active fans, LED control, and the GPU Gauntlet. Inside the box is another box with the GPU sitting inside its anti-static bag surrounded by form fitting foam. The accessories include the driver disk, quick installation guide, a 6 to 8 pin converter, and a wrist or headband. Retail Packaging – Front The Card Below you can finally see what the card looks like! We see the Windforce 3 cooler and its triple fan setup, a dual slot cooling solution. The shroud is mostly black with a grey accent between the back two fans. We see it does come with a backplate to protect the PCB. The top of the card has LEDs for the Windforce writing, as well as the words ‘silent’ and ‘stop’ flanking that wording. Silent and stop are lit up depending on which mode the fan is in. Around the fans, there is a unique and really cool looking circular LED which by default glows orange (again you can control the color of these as well as any ‘motion’ through the OC Guru II software). It is a good looking card that should fit well with a lot of build themes due to its neutral color scheme and variable color LEDs. A Closer Look Taking a look at the I/O we see a typical complement of DVI (DL DVI-I flavor), HDMI, and three full size DisplayPort ports. For this version of the GTX 970, you will need two 8-pin PCIe connections. With those, the card can accept 375 W if you include the PCIe power. This thing seems ready to go places with that amount of power available, no? I/O – DL DVI-I / HDMI / DisplayPort (3) Two 8 pin PCIe required! As usual, I took apart the card to show off the PCB as well as the heatsink with its the finely brushed (not mirror) finish on the copper base and the six heatpipes that make their way through the fin array. You can see that all the memory and VRM area is cooled. I was a bit worried about the three smaller fans being a noisy when spinning up, but it wasn’t an issue until the fan reached around 80% (which only happens when set manually). Heatsink removed Heatsink base 12 Phase power delivery Below is a picture of the Elpida W4032BABG-70-F memory IC’s used. Memory IC – Elpida W4032BABG-70-F Monitoring/Overclocking Software – OC Guru II Pictured below is GIGABYTE’s GPU monitoring and overclocking software, OC Guru II. This software is able to monitor conditions on the card like temperature and fan speed. It will also allow you to change the LED color and style, as well as put an on screen display. It also has graphing capabilities as well so one can see a history of metrics if you choose. I have no issues with the software as far as how easy it was to use or its looks. Very simple and straightforward folks!

Like crossword puzzles and Sudoku, picross has historically been a no-frills affair. The meat is within the puzzle design itself, and if the pictures happen to resemble recognizable licensed characters, that's just gravy. Pokemon Picross, Nintendo's latest free-to-play 3DS experiment, attempts to add flourishes from one of its most successful franchises. The idea successfully livens up the formula despite some questionable design choices. The Art of Numbers For the uninitiated, Picross is essentially a game of math and logic. You're given blank rows and columns along with the knowledge that a certain number of blocks within them should be filled in. From there it's a matter of sussing out which blocks can be filled in with certainty, which then leads to others, and then others. The end result is a simple picture made of pixel-art. I've always enjoyed picross games as a meditative experience, since slowly chipping away at a puzzle is both satisfying and calming. This being a Pokemon-themed game, of course, the vast majority of the puzzles are portraits of Pokemon themselves. Finishing a stage lets you "catch" that particular pocket monster, which then lets you use their abilities in [CENSORED]ure stages. Those powers bear a striking similarity to the optional help tools in the 3DS Picross E series, like highlighting actionable rows in blue or revealing a small set of blocks to get you started. Unlike in Picross E, however, these are powers with a cooldown timer, so you can't necessarily rely on them for every stage. The roster of Pokemon is massive enough that you can usually swap out a resting Pokemon for a fresh one if need-be. Their strength level determines how large of a puzzle they can handle. As you approach later stages, most of the earlier ones will be functionally useless, stressing the importance of conquering every stage to catch them all. View Gallery Mission Control The currency here is Picrites, which you can get by completing Missions. Each stage has three optional objectives, and you get a bonus for completing them all in one go. These range from equipping a certain number of Pokemon, or a certain type, to using a particular power-up. The latter requirement struck me as strange, since rewarding the use of power-ups means you get more currency for making the puzzle easier. It would make more intuitive sense, and be more rewarding, to receive a bonus based on using fewer powers, not more. The interface for missions can be a bit of a pain, since there's no way to automatically equip the necessary skills and Pokemon to complete them. That means between each puzzle, you need to check the mission requirements, go into your roster, swap out the correct Pokemon if you have them, and make sure you have access to the correct powers. It's not particularly difficult, just time-consuming busywork. Pokemon at a Premium What gives this busywork a sour taste is the fact that Picrites are also this game's premium currency, and so making it inconvenient to earn them naturally seems driven by commercial interests. We make it a point to review games without considering their price points, but F2P games are such a fusion of creativity and commerce, and the monetization hooks are embedded so deeply into fundamental game design decisions, sometimes it's difficult to tell where one ends and another begins. Nintendo has been remarkably honest in its moves toward free-to-play, instead regularly calling it “free-to-start.” The language sends a clear message that at a certain point, you can no longer earn your way through the game. The gates that lead to different areas in Pokemon Picross are increasingly expensive, and you can't earn Picrites by repeating a mission, so it seems unlikely that a player could play their way through it entirely without some investment. Pokemon Picross also comes with an energy mechanic based on how many squares a puzzle requires, but I didn't find it too onerous since I'd only play in short bursts anyway. If you invest your Picrites in upgrading your energy meter, it eventually just gives you infinite energy. Once you hit 5000 Picrites purchased through the shop--about $30, if you purchase the right packages--you unlock the ability to just buy Picrites for free, making that the de facto price for the full game. That means that Nintendo is at least gracious enough to give its F2P hooks an end-point, even if it's one that's relatively high for a picross game. Pocket Monsters, Big World However, Pokemon Picross is massive, so longevity certainly isn't lacking. It comes with 30 areas, two large-scale murals composed of smaller puzzles, special stages to help your Pokemon Mega Evolve, and randomized encounters that appear occasionally on the map to catch rare creatures. It is a Picross game at its core, but Nintendo has found enough ways to integrate the Pokemon mythos that it feels fresh and new. While it's certainly strange that you're essentially penalized for challenging yourself, and the asking price to access all the content may feel too steep, it is a creative take on the classic puzzle type. For Picross devotees or Pokemon fans, it's certainly worth exploring.
