  1. Donald Trump's former election campaign chief Paul Manafort breached his plea deal with special counsel Robert Mueller by lying to prosecutors, a US judge says. US District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson ruled that Manafort "made multiple false statements" to the FBI, Mr Mueller's office and a grand jury. Mr Mueller leads a probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 US election. Manafort has pleaded guilty to some charges, avoiding a separate trial. He then accepted a plea deal on other charges in return for co-operating with Mr Mueller's investigation. Winners and losers from Manafort's plea deal Manafort: The man who helped Trump win Russia-Trump: Who's who in the drama to end all dramas? In her ruling on Wednesday, Judge Berman Jackson said there was evidence that showed Manafort had lied about three different topics, including his contacts with Konstantin Kilimnik, a Russian political consultant. Prosecutors claim Mr Kilimnik had ties to Russian intelligence. However, the judge cleared Manafort, 69, of allegations that he lied on two other subjects. The verdict means that Manafort - who has been held in a detention centre in Virginia since June - could now potentially face harsher sentences or have charges against him re-filed. Last year, Mr Mueller said that Manafort lied "on a variety of subject matters" after signing the plea deal.
  2. The new generation Honda Civic is all set to be launched in India on March 7, bringing back the iconic sedan to the country The Honda Civic first arrived in India over a decade ago and while it was one of the most loved sedans of its time, the automaker decided to discontinue the model in the country, as the sedan moved to the next generation globally. Nevertheless, the Civic is now set to make a comeback to the Indian market in the latest tenth generation avatar and will go on sale on March 7, 2019. The all-new Civic is a major departure over its predecessors in both performance and tech wizardry, while the big update is the addition of a diesel heart on the sedan. We first saw the tenth generation Honda Civic at the 2018 Auto Expo in India, and anticipations have been high ever since as the legendary nameplate comes back to the Indian roads the facelifted version of the tenth generation Honda Civic. The sedan gets a new and bolder looking design language that includes the chrome-induced front wing grille, angular bumper and all-LED headlamps. Compared to the eighth generation Civic that was sold in the country, the new model is a complete overhaul in design and looks nicer too. This version is also slightly raised, making for easier ingress and egress. The rear styling has completely transformed with the new C-shaped LED taillights and the fastback roofline that converges into the boot. The new Civic is a lovely looking car like that and certainly commands presence on road. With respect to features, the 2019 Honda Civic is equipped with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, 8-way adjustable driver's seat, electric sunroof, dual-zone climate control and smart key engine on and off feature. The instrument cluster is digital as well with a 7-inch unit, while you also get a push-button start system. On the feature front, the new Civic comes loaded with six airbags, ABS, EBD, Agile Handling Assist, stability control, hill start assist and electric parking brake Honda Civic comes with a pair stylish C-shaped LED taillights at the rear Engine options on the 2019 Honda Civic include the 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol motor that is tuned for 139 bhp at 6500 rpm and 174 Nm of peak torque available at 4300 rpm. The Civic is also offered with a 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel heart in India for the first time and the motor is tuned for 118 bhp at 4000 rpm and 300 Nm of peak torque at 2000 rpm. The petrol version is only offered with a CVT unit, while the diesel gets a 6-speed manual transmission. Honda claims an ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of 16.5 kmpl on the petrol and 26.8 kmpl on the diesel model. Prices for the 2019 Honda Civic will be announced on March 7 and the sedan is expected to be priced in the vicinity of ₹ 18-24 lakh (ex-showroom). The D-sedan segment may not be as po[CENSORED]r as it was a decade ago, but India does get a host of capable cars in this space. The new Civic will lock horns against the Skoda Octavia. Toyota Corolla Altis and the Hyundai Elantra in the segment.

  7. Ticwatch E review: the cheapest smartwatch with Android Wear Two months ago I ordered a Ticwatch E, a smartwatch produced by a Chinese company named Mobvoi. Since then I have said that I owe a review, so here, I'm going to tell you, in short, what this watch can do. Ticwatch E is an Android Wear 2 smartwatch, so it does not make sense to bore you with details about the operating system. It's the same on all watches. Originally Ticwatch E came with Android OS 7 but after a month and a little bit got an update to Android 8. I say honestly, I did not feel any improvement, maybe even on the contrary. Let me tell you what I like and what I do not like at Ticwatch E. pluses The clock looks relatively good, it does not look like a toy. It looks worse than in the presentation photos but better than you expect. The display is bright and clear and because it's OLED you have Always-ON. In general, everything moves fluently, from interface to application. Well, I have not installed much. I often use Strava when I ride a bicycle, and Sleep as Android to monitor my sleep and wake me up when needed. The battery is charged within an hour. The pulse sensor works pretty well. A lot of watchfolds, you can practically find anything for anyone and any occasion. Relatively small price, I gave 657 lei on it and it was delivered using the OnePlus logistics. I mean, in about 3-4 days. You can connect to your Google Fit account and synchronize all your daily activity there, which makes Mobvoi applications unnecessary minuses The battery lasts between half a day (~ 12 hours) and 2.5 days. Depends on how you use it. Almost on (notifications, GPS, Wi-Fi), the battery does not run for 12 hours. Quite off you can reach 2.5 days, but only see the time. I have noticed though that in day-to-day use (it can hold for 24 hours, but with indulgence) the battery keeps your Wi-Fi turned on more than without. But it must be stopped The clock is not waterproof, except for accidental splashing. So do not think you can take a bath with him in no shape. Sometimes the notifications come late or no longer come. I feel like I've been here since I went to Android 8. I still do not know if it's on the phone or the clock. I gave it a factory reset and things are better, but it's not great. Conclusion Now we come to the conclusion and to the most audacious question: do you recommend it? I think the answer is: it depends. If you really want a colorful screen with good resolution, a decent design (no more) and a heartbeat sensor but you're willing to load it daily or twice a day then yes, I recommend it. Otherwise, for sports and simple notifications, there are other variants, but they do not have the same good looking screen. Acquisition details in the original article. In other words, on the screen, I usually put a foil from SmartProtection. It's almost invisible and makes sure I do not accidentally scratch the display, Soon I come with a short review for the Xiaomi Amazfit Bip, the battery watch lasts for two weeks. For now, I'm thinking if a Garmin Fenix 3 is not right for me.
  8. Attempts to incorporate a key scientific study into global climate talks in Poland have failed. The IPCC report on the impacts of a temperature rise of 1.5C, had a significant impact when it was launched last October. Scientists and many delegates in Poland were shocked as the US, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Kuwait objected to this meeting "welcoming" the report. It was the 2015 climate conference that had commissioned the landmark study. The report said that the world is now completely off track, heading more towards 3C this century rather than 1.5C. Keeping to the preferred target would need "rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society". If warming was to be kept to 1.5C this century, then emissions of carbon dioxide would have to be reduced by 45% by 2030. The report, launched in Incheon in South Korea, had an immediate impact winning praise from politicians all over the world But negotiators here ran into serious trouble when Saudi Arabia, the US, Russia and Kuwait objected to the conference "welcoming" the document. Instead they wanted to support a much more lukewarm phrase, that the conference would "take note" of the report. Saudi Arabia had fought until the last minute in Korea to limit the conclusions of the document. Eventually they gave in. But it now seems that they have brought their objections to Poland. The dispute dragged on as huddles of negotiators met in corners of the plenary session here, trying to agree a compromise wording. None was forthcoming. With no consensus, under UN rules the passage of text had to be dropped. Many countries expressed frustration and disappointment at the outcome. "It's not about one word or another, it is us being in a position to welcome a report we commissioned in the first place," said Ruenna Haynes from St Kitts and Nevis. "If there is anything ludicrous about the discussion it's that we can't welcome the report," she said to spontaneous applause. Scientists and campaigners were also extremely disappointed by the outcome. "We are really angry and find it atrocious that some countries dismiss the messages and the consequences that we are facing, by not accepting what is unequivocal and not acting upon it," said Yamide Dagnet from the World Resources Institute, and a former climate negotiator for the UK. Others noted that Saudi Arabia and the US had supported the report when it was launched in October. It appears that the Saudis and the US baulked at the political implications of the UN body putting the IPCC report at its heart. "Climate science is not a political football," said Camilla Born, from climate think tank E3G. "All the worlds governments - Saudi included - agreed the 1.5C report and we deserve the truth. Saudi can't argue with physics, the climate will keep on changing." Many delegates are now hoping that ministers, who arrive on Monday, will try and revive efforts to put this key report at the heart of the conference. "We hope that the rest of the world will rally and we get a decisive response to the report," said Yamide Dagnet. "I sincerely hope that all countries will fight that we don't leave COP24 having missed a moment of history

  10. McLaren is world-renowned for its top-class cars, but the new McLaren Speedtail bullfighting is set to meet any expectations. Exorbitant pricing cars are far from being a premiere in 2018. However, there are still some creations that leave you prickly, both in terms of purchase price and technical specifications. The latest such example comes from McLaren. The super machine in the adjoining images has a price of 2.25 million dollars, but the likelihood of not selling like hot bread is low to nonexistent. There are surprisingly many potential buyers for cars of this value. The new McLaren Speedtail comes in front of the competition with some superlatives. The bolid boasts a maximum speed of 400 kilometers per hour. It's a hybrid with a highly aerodynamic design. From a point of view, it is the perfect combination of modern technology and the principles behind racing cars for which the brand is recognized. The acceleration of the bolid runs at such an aggressive pace that it can reach an average speed of 300 kmph in just 12.8 seconds. McLaren P1's former leader in speed, and the machine needed about four extra seconds to hit the speed. The reminiscences of racing design experience are also reflected in choosing to install the driver's seat in the center of the racing car. Two other people can sit comfortably on the sides of the steering wheel. A number of touch sensitive panels provide quick access to all the information the "pilot" needs. It is interesting to note that there are no rear-view mirrors on the sides of this car. Instead, the driver can take a look at two real-time video streams from two cameras installed instead of the traditional mirrors.
  11. iOS 12.1 has officially announced release by Apple, along with new features that are being offered for iPhone and iPad since today. iOS 12.1 had Apple's announcement of the launch last night, and the Americans also confirmed the important new releases that customers will have available. iOS 12.1 will be released today by Apple and the first important feature announced by the Americans is the integration of the option to make video calls in groups with up to 32 people on the iPhone and iPad. iOS 12.1 also brings iPhone and iPad the option of using new emoji characters, with Apple embracing 70 new emoji that we can use when talking. Apple now features emothy characters with hairy hair, hairless head, more emoji with smiling faces, emoji that represent animals, sports events, and even food. iOS 12.1: Apple Announces LANSAREA on iPhone and iPad iOS 12.1 also brings a very important function to the iPhone XS and iPhone XR Series, Apple's implementation of the option to control the depth of the camera. Specifically, iOS 12.1 will allow you to control the depth effect, including the camera's interface, when taking pictures, not just after recording a picture, as it is now. iOS 12.1 finally brings the option to use the dual-SIM function for the iPhone XS and iPhone XR, but unfortunately not in Romania for the time being, but maybe that will change. iOS 12.1 will be launched this evening by Apple after the afternoon conference to present new iPad Pro 2018 models and new Macs.
  12. Currently available only in the Opera Beta version, the new VPN service allows users to set up a virtual location from which to browse the Internet, bypassing the area restrictions imposed on their home country. Unlike other more sophisticated VPN services, the integrated browser with Opera lets you just randomly select a VPN server located in the United States, Europe, or Asia region to anonymize the actual location of the user. Without access to the real IP address, or even for determining the country of origin, imposing content restrictions and filtering web addresses is more difficult. But using a VPN client does not automatically stop monitoring your browsing habits through our volunteer services such as social networks and Google products. For total anonymity, we should avoid logging in with any of the services we have previously denied our identity, and regularly delete the browsing history for removing cookies. This is not the first attempt by the Opera developer to test the integration of a VPN service directly into the web browser, the functionality being available for some time in Opera's PC edition. Interpretation for Android is also easier to use, the activation consisting only of checking the VPN option in the configuration menu and choosing the general location where we want to appear. Those who are not sure what to do can leave the default option - Optimal, the browser automatically selecting the VPN server with the best connection speed. Obviously, the use of VPN services (especially free ones) comes with a perceptible penalty for waiting times when uploading web pages. In addition, it is almost impossible to determine with certainty whether the VPN server connected is trustworthy or not, there are few cases where extensive campaigns for collecting information for third parties have been carried out under the firewall of some VPN services. One of the most recent examples is the Onavo VPN service, used by the Facebook owner, to systematically collect information about users' preferences for using rival social networks without first requiring the consent of the data subjects.
  13. AMD has announced the availability of the first 7-nm gaming video card, packed with the Raise The Game Fully Loaded with three cumulative PC games of $ 180. Successor of the Radeon RX Vega 64 series, the new Radeon VII more than doubles the bandwidth of video memory and substantially increases the processing power. With code name VEGA20, the new 7nm GPU comes with increased operating frequencies and is helped with 16GB of HBM2 memory. Following the example given by Nvidia rival, AMD gave up the reference design of the Radeon VII accelerators to the turbine fan cooler, instead opting for a conventional three-fan solution that is more efficient in dissipating the heat. By focusing on maximizing performance, AMD engineers have decided to keep a "budget" of about 300W for power consumption previously set for the Radeon Vega 64 series. Thus, the improved manufacturing process makes it possible to achieve operating frequencies of 1750-1800 MHz in boost mode, resulting in performance gains of up to 35% in Battlefield V and 42% in the Strange Brigade, compared to Radeon Vega 64. Unfortunately, the power of up to 300W consumed during gaming sessions translates into an increased noise input from the cooling system. Also recommended for PC gaming enthusiasts and professionals who want to take advantage of GPU Compute capabilities, the AMD Radeon VII series of accelerators is available for purchase at AMD's $ 699 website. Players who purchase a Radeon VII video card or Radeon VII system will receive the PC version of Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry 5 and The Division 2, for free.

Those posting are asked to specify the source of the article. ================================================== ================================================== ================================================== ================= In order to ensure greater success for Windows 8 Consumer Preview, Microsoft has worked with application developers early to offer a variety of content to the Windows 8 Store for the first time users of the operating system. Here are 10 "must have" applications for Windows 8 Consumer Preview, recommended by Gizmodo. 1) Ashampoo ImageFX Easy and efficient image editor, Ashampoo ImageFX offers a large number of filters and effects for editing pictures taken with your Windows 8 phone or tablet. The application does not currently offer features as complex as Photoshop Touch for Android or iOS but could be improved with the release of the final version of Windows 8. 2) Evernote One of the most po[CENSORED]r productivity applications, Evernote has arrived in Windows 8 Store in a slightly restrained version. Currently, only text notes can be made, but they are effectively synchronized with any other gadget the user has installed Evernote. 3) News Republic Less impressed as Pulse or Flipboard, the News Republic is a necessary application for anyone who wants to organize their news effectively. When the user organizes the categories of interest, news related to them can be viewed in separate categories. 4) SketchBook Express The best graphics application currently available in Windows 8 Store, SketchBook Express does not have the same options as the Pro for Destop option, but provides the user with many tools that are useful for drawing. 5) Elements Weather Forecast Few users need a full screen application for weather forecasting. Elements Weather Forecast offers a live home screen tile that displays real-time information without opening the application. It also provides users with weather forecasts for 7 days. 6) Cut the Rope Compared to many with Angry Birds, Cut The Rope is an addictive game for Windows 8 Consumer Preview that replaces the catapult with the rope. A candy hangs on several ropes, and the way they are cut affects their star collecting movements that are points. 7) Grantophone The Grantophone application provides a complex sound handling interface that can be easily used by those who feel they have no musical talent, combining composition with fun. ? Endomondo Smartphones and integrated GPS tablets are the destination of Endomondo, which creates statistics on exercise, whether it's jogging or cycling. 9) Slapdash Podcasts Organizing podcasts becomes a simple task with Slapdash Podcasts, which also offers a huge list of online radio shows where the user can subscribe on the spot. The application does not currently have the automatic download function for new episodes in the podcast list. 10) Pirates Love Daisies Pirates Love Daisies tower defense game does not revolutionize the genre, but it brings an exciting improvement: three modes of action: Normal, Sudden Death and Epic. The player positions the pirates strategically on the map, and they attack everything that moves within their reach. - Users hoping to experiment with Windows 8 ARM tablets or new PCs using the same architecture will be disappointed to learn that ARM devices that have preinstalled Windows 8 are not compatible with other operating systems. Microsoft has decided to remove Custom Mode (ROM) through UEFI on Windows 8 ARM tablets and PCs that will not be able to run any other operating system, according to BGR. Even if it was initially included in Windows 8 Hardware Certification Requirements, the Custom Boot option will be removed from all Windows 8 ARM devices that will only work with Secure Boot. Microsoft's decision contradicts the company's previous position, which announces that it will provide users with the best experience, letting them choose the best solution themselves. It remains to be seen if the company's decision can be implemented, or the "stopped fruit" will stimulate independent developers to find a solution to bypass the Windows 8 constraint.
  16. Ever wondered what it would feel like to be carrying secrets that could impact national security in a drive with military-grade encryption? Well, while we can’t help you with the secrets portion, DiskAshur2 from iStorage can take care of the military-grade encrypted device part with its lineup of portable SSDs. Today, we will be looking at the iStorage DiskAshur2 512 GB portable SSD that ships with AES-XTS 256-bit – military grade encryption that is currently unbreakable (from a direct attack vecto r ) . iStorage’s DiskAshur2 brings unbreakable data security to the consumer market starting at $176 iStorage is a pretty well-known name in the encrypted storage market – they were the first company on earth to get a portable encrypted storage solution on the market with their DiskAshur Pro series (which has certifications by NATO and other major organizations). The DiskAshur 2 (non-pro) series lacks these certifications but as far as I can tell that’s pretty much all the difference between the Pro and non-Pro variants. In any case, they should be more than enough for the average consumer’s security needs. Before we go any further, here is a quick overview of the tech. Capacity 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, 3TB, 4TB & 5TB Data Transfer Speed Up to: Read 148 MBps / Write 140 MBps RPM 5400 Buffer Size 8MB Power Supply Bus Powered Dimensions (W, D, H) 124 mm x 84 mm x 19 mm (500GB,1TB,2TB)| 124 mm x 84mm x 27mm (3TB,4TB,5TB) Weight 500GB/1/2TB max. 216 grams approx. | 3/4/5TB max. 325 grams approx Approvals FIPS PUB 197 Validated, FCC, CE, RoHS, WEEE, TAA Compliant Interface Super Speed USB 3.1 - up to 5Gbps. A very good quality USB extension cable is also included in the box (which is a very thoughtful touch!) which increases the value of the package when looking at the price tag of $176. The SSD itself features an epoxy coated keypad, with a USB 3.1 cable tucked away in the side . The SSD feels very well built in hand and has oleo-phobic coating on the keypads so the keys don’t give away the possible key combinations by degrading over time as the same pin is keyed in repeatedly. I was slightly concerned about the integrated cable as that is the biggest possible point of failure but the quality of the material is very sturdy and my fears appear to be unfounded. Encryption and ruggedness overview The DiskAshur2 utilizes a dedicated on-board secure microprocessor to handle all encryption needs on a hardware-level. This is a very important distinction because this means all encryption processes will happen on-disk, away from the host’s PC where they might be modified. The specific encryption standard that is being used is the AES-XTS 256-bit which as far as I know is known to be unbreakable. This is a FIPS PUB 197 validated encryption algorithm that is handled in its entirety by a Common Criteria EAL4+ on-board microprocessor. Best of all, however, you get no performance degradation since this is full disk encryption. An interesting part of the security design is that the device will accept a maximum of 15 pin attempts. After that, it will delete all encryption keys and the data will be lost forever (the device assumes a forceful attempt is underway). This is either a pro or a con depending on how security conscious you are. The device also has a self-destruct pin which you can enter to delete all data in one go. The packaging is IP56 certified which means its fairly dust and water-resistance so don’t worry about the odd splashes and rain. The case itself is rubberized so it can handle a fall quite easily (SSDs are more resilient to falls than HDDs anyways). The case is also designed to be tamper-proof and any attempt to open the device or mess with the encryption hardware will result in the device assuming someone is attempting to tamper with it and all data lost. The device that iStorage has applied the encryption layer is actually the ADATA SU800 512GB – which is what benchmark software will sometimes detect the drive as when you plug it in. This means that you are looking at a 3D NAND based SSD with a very high shock tolerance. The DiskAshur2 features 294 MB/s read and 319 MB/s write speeds and includes intelligent SLC caching and DRAM memory cache buffer (the standard bells and whistles of modern SSD firmware). This particular SSD also contains an error LPDC – low-density parity check – which compared to non-error correcting memory is going to offer superior reliability of the data as well as the encryption keys. Our testing methodology includes filling up the drive to roughly 1/4th of its value and then running tests as this gives a more accurate picture than simply testing a newly formatted drive out of the box. The performance of the DiskAshur2 was very impressive and I was continuously getting 300 MB/s+ read and writes when transferring data from my M2 Samsung 960 SSD over the USB 3.1 front port. Here are the CrystalDiskMark results on the front USB 3.1 port:
  17. In brief: Cryptocurrency exchange QuadrigaCX’s 115,000 customers have lost a combined total of $145 million, after CEO and founder Gerald Cotton unfortunately passed away from complications caused by Crohn’s Disease last year. The company has less than half a million left in cash. A common practice among cryptocurrency exchanges is to store customers' coins in cold wallets, which are offline and encrypted and can only be accessed by those who know the password. This protects them from hacking and virtual theft but does mean that the entire value of the wallet rests in the hands of those with the password. An affidavit filed by QuadrigaCX on January 31 reveals that there are 26,500 bitcoins ($92 million), 11,00 bitcoin cash ($1.3 million), 11,000 bitcoin cash SV ($707,000), 35,000 bitcoin gold ($352,000), 200,000 litecoin ($6.5 million) and 430,000 ether ($46 million) stored on Cotton’s encrypted and inaccessible laptop. While the company has hired several security researchers (read: hackers) to attempt to access the laptop, they’ve had very little success so far. The company’s stance has gone from “Quadriga’s inventory of cryptocurrency has become unavailable and some of it may be lost” to “most, if not all” of their customers will suffer damages. To try and buy time to access the laptop and possibly to liquidate the company, QuadrigaCX has applied for a stay of proceedings from the Supreme Court. Ideally, it could let them access around $50 million or so that is currently trapped in a legal battle with a Canadian bank, though a good portion of that money is their customers', too. Since it’s leaked out that customers may not get their money back, many have taken to Reddit and Twitter to request proof of death and expressing their anger that the money was so mismanaged. QuadrigaCX employees have admitted that they’re even receiving death threats ???
  18. If there is a 2017 prototype (still in conceptual phase) that we have applauded until our hand hurt that was the Mazda Kai. Unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show, we hope that, as usual at the firm, its lines will be almost unchanged at the next Mazda 3. The model will come equipped with the Skyactiv-X engine that reduces fuel consumption and emissions by 30 %, key in its technological development plan. Very little information, but valuable ?
  19. LONDON – It's often said that David Cameron is a lucky politician who has seemed to coast through politics on instinct and charm during a career that has culminated in six years as British prime minister. But now his luck may be running out. In calling a referendum on Britain's membership in the European Union, Cameron has made a gamble that could end his career — and take his country out of an international alliance it joined more than 40 years ago. It would be a rare but fateful miscalculation for a politician who has a reputation for thriving under pressure and astutely judging political risks. "I think he's actually been pretty stunned by the strength of the 'leave' cause," said Cameron biographer James Hanning. "The golden rule is, never hold a referendum unless you're confident of winning it, and I think he thought that the moderate voices would prevail by some distance. But that's not the way the polls are suggesting it's going to go." The referendum campaign has been unexpectedly bitter and divisive, and was brought to a shocked halt when Labour lawmaker Jo Cox was shot and stabbed to death in the street last week by a man witnesses heard yell "Britain first." Both sides suspended campaigning out of respect for Cox, amid fears that the political fury unleashed by the EU campaign was somehow connected to the killing. Before Cox died, opinion polls had shown surging sentiment in favor of a British exit from the 28-nation EU — known as Brexit. A majority of supporters of Cameron's Conservative Party said they would vote to quit the bloc in Thursday's referendum. That's bitter news for Cameron, who called the referendum to puncture growing support for the anti-EU U.K. Independence Party and placate the strongly Euroskeptic right wing of the Conservatives. Victoria Honeyman, a lecturer in British politics at the University of Leeds, said Cameron had seen EU battles poison the leaderships of former Tory leaders John Major and William Hague and "feared a civil war in the Conservative Party." She said the referendum was about "defusing that time bomb" — but Cameron has "moved from having one ticking time bomb to having another ticking time bomb." When he promised the referendum, in 2013, Cameron said it would "settle this European question in British politics" once and for all. He told voters he would forge a new deal between Britain and the EU that would make remaining an attractive prospect. At a Brussels summit in February, he won changes to welfare benefits that he said would reduce immigration and an exemption for Britain from the EU's commitment to "ever-closer union" — a phrase that stirs images of a European super-state in some patriotic British hearts. But many voters have proved resistant to Cameron's message that Britain is stronger, safer and more economically secure within the EU than it would be outside it. The concessions he gained have been dismissed as paltry by "leave" campaigners, who say they will do little to limit immigration from other EU nations because the bloc guarantees free movement among member states. It's a subject that resonates with many voters, who have seen hundreds of thousands of people come to Britain over the past decade from new EU members in eastern Europe. (Hundreds of thousands of Britons also live in other EU countries, a less remarked-upon fact). "I think he has underestimated the enduring nature and the strength of the Euroskeptic support in the country and also the extent of the bitterness inside his own party," Hanning said. Far from healing Conservative divisions over Europe, the referendum has exacerbated them. Cameron has led the "remain" campaign, but let Euroskeptic members of his Cabinet call for a "leave" vote. As a result, senior Conservatives, including former London Mayor Boris Johnson and Justice Secretary Michael Gove, have spent months attacking him. Tory leader for a decade and prime minister since 2010, Cameron has vowed to stay in office if there is a "leave" vote. "Will I carry on as prime minister? Yes," he told the BBC last week, vowing to "construct a government that includes all of the talents of the Conservative Party." But many feel he will have little choice but to resign quickly, with a pro-Brexit figure like Johnson or Gove his likely successor. Even if Britain votes to remain, Cameron's days as leader are numbered. He has already announced he will step down before the next election in 2020. A deeply divided party will likely want him to leave long before that, so that a new leader can help heal the referendum's wounds, and dissident Conservative lawmakers could trigger a no-confidence vote to oust Cameron. Hanning said 50-year-old Cameron will be worried about what the referendum means for his legacy. A son of privilege, educated at elite Eton College and Oxford University, he has a strong sense of national duty. He won two elections espousing a fiscally conservative, socially moderate "one-nation Conservatism" that he believes speaks to a large swath of the British public. Tim Bale, professor of politics at Queen Mary, University of London, said Cameron had hoped to be remembered for restoring the economy after the 2008 financial crisis and for social reforms such as legalizing same-sex marriage. "I think gay marriage will still be an important one," Bale said. "But unfortunately I think he's going to be remembered in the history books as the prime minister who took us out of Europe." Hanning said Cameron would find that "mortifying." But he said a vote for Brexit would overshadow Cameron's other achievements, just as the decision to join the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 has clouded the legacy of former Prime Minister Tony Blair. "You might say that is his Iraq," Hanning said. "Blair had foreign affairs successes in Northern Ireland, Sierra Leone, Kosovo — and then Iraq was the manifestation of his overconfidence. I suppose people might say this is Cameron's."

  21. INF nuclear treaty: Russia plans new missile systems after pullout Russia says it is planning to develop new missile systems after both Russia and the US suspended their involvement in an arms control pact. The Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty banned both countries from using short- and medium-range missiles. Last week, US President Donald Trump announced the US would leave the pact, which it has long accused the Russians of violating. Russia then did the same. The moves have raised concerns about a new arms race. The INF was signed in 1987, during the Cold War, to ease a crisis in which US and Soviet missiles were placed within range of European capitals. What is Russia planning? On Tuesday, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said the aim was to create new land-based missiles within the next two years. Ground-launched missiles were banned under the INF, but not sea- or air-launched ones, which Russia already possesses. These can then be used to create the new systems. Tensions rise as US threatens to 'take out' Russian missiles Is nuclear control set to self-destruct? Mr Shoigu said the US was already violating the accord: "[The US] are actively working on creating ground-based missiles with the range capability of over 500km, which is outside the treaty-sti[CENSORED]ted limitations. "In this situation, the Russian president has set the task for the defence ministry to take tit-for-tat mirrored measures," he said. The US is yet to respond to Russia's announcement but AP news agency last week cited Trump officials as saying there were no immediate plans to test or deploy missiles banned under the INF. Why did the US pull out of the pact? The Trump administration has expressed concern at the threat posed by Russia as well as countries outside the INF, in particular China. Announcing that the US was suspending its involvement in the INF and would leave it completely in six months, President Trump said: "We cannot be the only country in the world unilaterally bound by this treaty, or any other." The US accuses Russia of several violations, including claims taht a new Russian missile falls within the 500-5,500km (310-3,400 miles) range banned by the treaty. But Russia says it is the US that has broken the pact, and says Washington is using false allegations as a pretext to withdraw from an agreement it never wanted to be part of. Russia has a head start - but is it the main threat? By Jonathan Marcus, BBC defence and diplomatic correspondent Given Russia is seen by the US as having already breached the INF treaty by its deployment of a ground-launched cruise missile, designated the 9M729 or SSC-8, Moscow is clearly ahead in the race to field this previously banned category of weapons. Reports suggest Russia could already have deployed up to about 100 of these missiles. President Putin is now talking about developing a ground-launched version of the successful Kalibr naval missile. He has also pointed to a potential hypersonic weapon on which the US believes Russia has been working for some time. So perhaps there is not much that is new here. The US itself is already allocating funds for new missile research and development. But the real arms race here could be in the Asia-Pacific rather than Europe, where both Russia and the US are wary of China's growing intermediate-range arsenal, which has never been restricted by any arms control agreement. Signed by the US and the USSR in 1987, the arms control deal banned all nuclear and non-nuclear missiles with short and medium ranges, except sea-launched weapons The US had been concerned by the Soviet deployment of the SS-20 missile system and responded by placing Pershing and cruise missiles in Europe - sparking widespread protests By 1991, nearly 2,700 missiles had been destroyed Both countries were allowed to inspect the other's installations In 2007, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared the treaty no longer served Russia's interests The move came after the US withdrew from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty in 2002
  22. Although it sparked a wave of enthusiasm and positive appreciation of the company, the news that Microsoft will offer Windows 10 free upgrade to all users of Windows 7 and Windows 8 / 8.1 was not as well received by everyone, a significant proportion of users hesitating and now to jump to the new OS. Unfortunately, simply declining offer does not seem to be an acceptable answer for Microsoft, and notices continue to appear even twice a day in the hope that even those who are left behind will eventually give up. But insistent notification messages, coupled with the fact that they can not be permanently disabled, only nudge unintended users in the Windows 10 camp, who now find another reason not to please Microsoft. Introduced first with an update package called KB3035583 and marked "recommended update" to be installed automatically, the application should check the compatibility of the PC used and inform the user of the upgrade offer. Whatever the reason, the mere refusal should have left the Upgrade topic closed. But the story does not stop here, the upgrade application remains firmly anchored in the guts of the operating system, continuing to show up for upgrade. Meanwhile, to make sure the more upscale users "do not find a way to get rid of the uninvited visitor, Microsoft has relaunched KB3035583 update in no less than 9 different versions, the upgrade recommendations become more insistent and hard to stop, the last iteration repeating the compatibility check and displaying the upgrade message twice a day. And if you refuse the upgrade every time, it's okay. Microsoft will download the Windows 10 installation kit anyway, taking up 6GB of the space available on the system partition, thinking that if you change your mind, the new OS can be installed immediately on your PC. To make the situation look like no exit, just uninstalling the KB3035583 package does not fix the changes to the operating system, the Windows 10 upgrade notification messages continue to appear in the same pattern. Fortunately, the problem can be resolved quickly with a free tool named GWX Control Panel. In addition to disabling notification messages, the utility promises to block reinstallation of the upgrade program in the event that Microsoft tries to deliver a new version through Windows Update.
