Tucked away on the other side of the sun, this twin planet is said to have been crafted by a superior cosmic entity as a replica of the Earth we know and love - only this time, you'll explore a gorgeous neon-lit environment across cityscapes that mirror their real-life counterparts. https://www.pocketgamer.com/l3e7/alpha-test-announced/
  2. Yesterday, Helldivers 2 players were presented with the simple yet daunting task of killing 2 billion Terminids as part of the newest Major Order. Some soldiers voiced concern over getting the task done within a week, but it seems as if they had nothing to worry about. The notification went through this morning that this monumental task is done and tidied away with more than enough time to spare, as 2 billion bugs were killed in just over 12 hours. While a few people still differ in opinion on whether this Major Order was actually difficult, considering how many people consistently play Helldivers 2, the achievement has still come as a surprise to some. "I just got a notification saying the major order was already completed," one player says in a Reddit post. "I thought 2 billion would be a lot, especially with a couple of hundred kills per player, maybe only 1000 per mission at the most. But apparently, a lot of people must have played. I was looking forward to being a part of it and helping to kill the equivalent of what is a QUARTER of humans on Earth, but I didn't even get a chance!" https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/helldivers-2-players-eradicate-2-billion-bugs-in-less-than-a-day-surprising-even-themselves/
  3. Economic concepts like subvention, productivity and identifiable expenditure are not the usual materials of political passion in Northern Ireland. But this week they took centre stage as a new report attempted to estimate the initial costs of Irish unification. The work by Dublin-based economists, John Fitzgerald and Edgar Morgenroth, looked at how much it costs to deliver public services in Northern Ireland and how those costs could be carried across to a unified state. The reaction was a taster of the economic arguments for and against unification, should a border poll be called anytime soon. Official data shows that Northern Ireland raises less in tax than it spends on public services with the gap filled by money from central government - a subvention. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-68743937
  4. Mercedes-AMG has revealed a hybrid version of the GT coupe, which produces 805 horsepower and 1047 pound-feet of torque. The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance pairs a twin-turbo V-8 with a rear-mounted electric motor. Mercedes claims a zero-to-60-mph sprint of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 199 mph. Mercedes-AMG decided that the GT63 coupe's 577 horsepower wasn't enough. Meet the new range-topping 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance, which emits a beastly 805 hp from its hybrid V-8 powertrain. Revealed in Shanghai during the Formula 1 race weekend, the new E Performance model has a hybrid setup that takes inspiration from proven technology used in the world's top open-wheel race cars. This same powertrain already appeared in the mechanically related SL63 convertible. Hi-Po Hybrid The E Performance system pairs a 603-hp twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 with a rear-mounted electric motor. The permanently excited synchronous e-motor produces 201 hp, which it sends to the wheels through a two-speed transmission and limited-slip differential. The e-motor can also send its power to the front wheels if necessary for extra traction. Along with 805 ponies, the hybrid system pumps out a total of 1047 pound-feet of torque. Feeding the e-motor is a lightweight 6.1-kWh AMG-specific battery that lives above the rear axle and has a direct cooling system that sends a special fluid around each of the 560 cells to maintain a consistent temperature and improve battery performance. Mercedes claims the coolant they developed can store more thermal energy than water-based systems and has a heat capacity two to three times higher. Mercedes also says the battery tech is informed by the hybrid system in the company's Formula 1 race cars and focuses on fast power delivery and draw instead of prioritizing range. The pack is recharged with a 3.7-kW on-board AC charger. Mercedes claims the E Performance will blast to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds en route to a 199 mph top speed. That's three-tenths quicker to 60 mph than the company's claim for the standard GT63. There are eight different drive modes, including an all-electric setting, Sport, Sport+, and Race. The hybrid AMG also gets four levels of regeneration for the battery, including a mode that's akin to one-pedal driving in an EV. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a60551603/2025-mercedes-amg-gt63-s-e-performance-details/
  5. A new £365m venue is set to become the biggest indoor arena in the UK as it opens in Manchester. Co-op Live, a giant black box next to Manchester City's football ground, has a capacity of 23,500 and aims to attract more major events from London. The venue was forced to apologise on Saturday after cancelling some tickets for a test event featuring Rick Astley so it could reduce capacity. Comedian Peter Kay will officially open the arena on Tuesday. Olivia Rodrigo, Take That, Eric Clapton and Liam Gallagher are among the other stars lined up to perform there. https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-68761025
  6. Trainers? Check. Water? Check. Sun cream? Check. Inflatable shark costume? It's the London Marathon this weekend, and it wouldn't be the nation's favourite long-distance running event without a healthy dose of fancy dress. And some of the participants, who've been wrangling with their outfits for months, will have some extra packing to do before Sunday. But it's not always a chilled exercise, as one man training with a fridge on his back found out when police mistook him for a thief. And while Georgie Box, who's planning to complete the race dressed as a shark, has never been stopped by the law, she admits to the odd unwanted pursuit. https://www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-68805968
  7. It was redemption for Silva after his poor spot-kick played a key role in City's loss on penalties to Real. The Portuguese midfielder turned in the winner at the far post from Kevin de Bruyne's cross six minutes from time. Chelsea will regret missing a host of chances, nearly all falling to striker Nicolas Jackson, as they suffered another agonising Wembley experience after the extra-time defeat on penalties against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final. And Chelsea also feel they were victims of an injustice as they were infuriated that they were not awarded a second-half penalty when Cole Palmer's free-kick struck Jack Grealish's hand in the wall, only for the video assistant referee to rule no offence had taken place. 'Chelsea pain self-inflicted as Man City show mentality of champions' How did you rate Manchester City's performance? Have your say here What did you make of Chelsea's display? Send us your comments here City remain on course for another double of Premier League and FA Cup and will now face either arch-rivals Manchester United or Championship side Coventry City in the final. Man City dig deep for victory City manager Pep Guardiola asked his side, who suffered such bitter disappointed as their hold on the Champions League trophy was wrestled away by Spanish giants Real, to go to the well once more against a highly-motivated Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. And, at times, it looked like the quest for victory might be beyond them as they looked jaded and leggy, only for their pedigree and muscle memory keeping them in contention until they could shake off the lethargy. City did not even have a shot on target in the first half but slowly came into the game before, as the great sides do, they found a way to win. The holders are always capable of moments of quality and it was no surprise that it was De Bruyne who unlocked Chelsea when they switched off fatally late on, the Belgian picking out Silva at the far post for the winner. And it was a sweet moment for Silva, who chose to loft a dreadful penalty straight at Real keeper Andriy Lunin in a decisive moment in the shootout against Real as City's attempt to win a second Champions League failed. Here, as he has done so often, the Portuguese arrived with perfect timing to send City into another FA Cup Final. City will be exhausted after another mammoth effort but will be refreshed for battles ahead by a hugely significant victory. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/68860454
  8. We will be closing this live page soon. Here’s a quick recap from today: Israeli forces continue to raid the Nur Shams refugee camp in the occupied West Bank’s Tulkarem, with at least 14 reported killed. Three Palestinians were killed and others injured as a result of the Israeli bombing of a house in the centre of the city of Rafah, according to Wafa. The US House of Representatives voted to provide Israel with $26bn in military aid. Reports say that the US is set to impose sanctions against the Israeli military’s “Netzah Yehuda” battalion for human rights violations in the occupied West Bank within days. Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh met with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul. Wafa reported that two civilians were killed and several others injured after Israeli warplanes bombed an area near Khan Younis. The Government Media Office in Gaza announced the total number of aid trucks entering the Gaza Strip daily ranges, on average, between 130 and 150 and said that Israel’s claims of about 300 trucks were “lies”. Funerals have been held for Palestinians, including six children, killed in an Israeli air attack on Rafah. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2024/4/20/israels-war-on-gaza-live-israelis-continue-intense-raid-on-nur-shams-camp

  14. Der8auer reports that Lamptron is selling illegal AIDA64 keys with its LCD-equipped products — including LCD air coolers and dedicated LCD hardware monitoring displays. FinalWire Ltd., makers of AIDA64, confirmed to Der8auer that Lamptron is bundling free invalid AIDA64 keys with its products and has been doing so for some time. FinalWire has requested that Lamptron stop this shady practice, but it has not. Der8auer suspects that Lamptron is using some sort of key generator to generate fake AIDA64 keys that will validate, but only on select versions of the software. The German overclocker first discovered Lamptron's shady tactics through one of his employees who heard about Lamptron AIDA64 product keys not working on a forum two years ago. Deciding to see if this was true or not, Der8auer pulled out a "free" AIDA64 key from his Lampton ST060 air cooler to see if it would work. https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cooling/lamptron-gets-caught-using-counterfeit-aida64-software-keys-with-its-lcd-equipped-products
  15. On Wednesday Logitech revealed three new peripherals designed specifically for Windows 8, Microsoft's updated OS slated to launch later this month. These new gadgets include the Logitech Wireless Rechargeable Touchpad T650, the Logitech Touch Mouse T620 and the Logitech Zone Touch Mouse T400. Each was developed with Microsoft's new Modern UI interface in mind, offering shortcuts to make it easier for users to move between the old Windows desktop and the new Windows 8 Start Screen. https://www.tomshardware.com/news/Touchpad-Touch-Mouse-T400-T620-T650,18330.html
  16. Ever wanted to see an original Xbox run Halo 2 at HD resolutions — or at least a non-distorted widescreen image at 480p? Hardware and game modder Ryan Miceli, aka grimdoomer on GitHub, has made the dream of Halo 2 in HD on Xbox a reality, though you'll need to make some modifications. Miceli has listed the project on GitHub and described it in depth on his blog. This doesn't run at 720p on the original Xbox as you may have bought it years ago. That requires getting into the system's guts. Fortunately, the mod and a number of its fixes — including disabling anamorphic scaling that distorts a 480p widescreen image in the original game — should still work fine on the original Xbox hardware. https://www.tomshardware.com/video-games/console-gaming/determined-modder-gets-halo-2-running-at-720p-on-the-original-xbox-after-tweaks-to-the-console-hardware-kernel-and-game

  18. The reaction to the Fallout show has been almost universally positive, and even those of us who have a few complaints about it still really enjoyed it. But Prime TV's Fallout adaptation has raised a few questions among fans and Fallout lore enthusiasts, particularly when it comes to one important historic location: Shady Sands. Spoilers for the Fallout show follow. In the Fallout games, Shady Sands is one of the largest cities in California and the first capital of the New California Republic, but when we see it in the Fallout show it's just a big crater. The city and its po[CENSORED]tion of 30,000 residents is simply gone, which is quite a blow to the NCR—and Fallout fans. https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fallout/todd-howard-confirms-the-fallout-show-didnt-retcon-non-bethesda-fallout-games-everything-that-happened-in-the-previous-games-including-new-vegas-happened/
  19. An influential global body has forecast Russia's economy will grow faster than all of the world's advanced economies, including the US, this year. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects Russia to grow 3.2% this year, significantly more than the UK, France and Germany. Oil exports have "held steady" and government spending has "remained high" contributing to growth, the IMF said. Overall, it said the world economy had been "remarkably resilient" "Despite many gloomy predictions, the world avoided a recession, the banking system proved largely resilient, and major emerging market economies did not suffer sudden stops," the IMF said. https://www.bbc.com/news/business-68823399
  20. Applications to order the upcoming 2025 Ford Mustang GTD have opened, with Ford increasing the estimated starting price to $325,000. North American production is expected to start in late 2024 or early 2025. You can apply to purchase the GTD between now and May 20, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. EST when the application window will close. Haven't you heard the old adage "It's not what you know, it's who you know"? That statement certainly rings true if you're interested in buying Ford's new Mustang GTD. Even if you can afford the estimated $325,000 starting price, Ford won't just let you walk into your local dealership and pick one up off the lot. You'll need to properly supplicate through an application process, with each order individually vetted before approval. This isn't a new practice for Ford—the manufacturer used a similar process for the rebirth of the GT supercar in 2016. The Mustang GTD's application starts out as you might expect, with Ford collecting your name, address, and contact information. After that, things get a little more interesting, with the automaker inquiring about your relationship with the brand. Do you own a Ford? How about a Lincoln? Are you involved in the motorsports world? Would you consider yourself a car collector? https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a60535740/2025-ford-mustang-gtd-application/
  21. A hotel undergoing major renovations has pledged to give its old furniture to a military charity. The Northampton Town Centre Hotel, on Silver Street, said it would hand over beds, tables and other furniture to the local branch of SSAFA. The charity was chosen to benefit after it won a BBC Dragon's Den-style event to pitch for the furniture. Gareth Bull, from SSAFA, said the donations would allow the charity to support local veterans. SSAFA, the Soldiers', Sailors' and Airmen's Families Association, provides a welfare, health and support services for serving and current personnel from the British armed forces. The furniture would otherwise have ended up in landfill but will now be used to benefit those leaving the forces and settling back into civilian life. "We often encounter extended waiting periods for furniture items, particularly beds. With this donation, our volunteers can respond to our clients' needs within 24 hours, if required," said Mr Bull. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-northamptonshire-68821996
  22. Russia's internet censor has asked streaming services to restrict access to an artist called Ap$ent after one of his songs went viral across Eastern Europe. TikTok users from countries like Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan have in recent months adopted his 2022 song Can I Come with You? as a backing track for clips of stray-animal rescues. The censor, Roskomnadzor, imposed the ban on his music, supposedly to prevent "destabilisation of Russian society". Ap$ent, who comes from Belarus and his real name is Arseniy Kisliak, thinks he's probably been targeted because of an earlier song he wrote with an anti-war theme. But it was Can I Come with You? that attracted millions of listens on YouTube and Spotify because of the TikTok trend. The song was never meant to be about stray animals. Ap$ent wrote it when he was fleeing Belarus with his wife Maryia. They decided to leave after she was sentenced to a year in an open penal facility for insulting Belarus's long-time leader Alexander Lukashenko. She had used a derogatory word on social media and Belarusian authorities assumed it was aimed at him. Although the song was about the couple's experience of leaving, Ap$ent says that animals did partly inspire the lyrics. "The line 'Can I come with you?' was probably inspired by my cat, Tishka. He somehow knew we were leaving soon," Ap$ent said. "And one day he came to me and gave me a cuddle, which wasn't his usual behaviour." He believes the Russian authorities received complaints from internet users: "I was accused of calling all Russians fascists. That's untrue. I'd never generalise like that," he told BBC Russian. But Ap$ent thinks the ban made him even more famous. "People who don't trust [the Russian internet censor]... became interested. They thought that I must be a decent person, if Roskomnadzor blocked me". Ap$ent first rose to fame during the Covid pandemic, with a tongue-in-cheek song about Mr Lukashenko's advice to Belarusians to drink vodka and visit saunas to keep Covid-19 at bay. The singer's other satirical hit, The song of a jolly Belarusian, came out ahead of Belarus's presidential elections in 2020, which were widely condemned as rigged. "Uncle Sasha [referring to Mr Lukashenko], no offence, but no-one is glad to see you... Go back to hell!," sang Ap$ent, two months before the vote. After the election, opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya claimed victory but fled Belarus as Mr Lukashenko brutally clamped down on protests. Ap$ent and his wife Maryia have since fled too and are now living in Poland. He says they now joke about Maryia's comment on social media which prompted them to leave. Despite his recent viral success, Ap$ent does not see himself as a political songwriter: "I'm purely writing from a position of common folk, and I add a bit of satire." His cat Tishka is still in Belarus but the singer hopes to bring him to Poland, and he plans open an animal rescue charity. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-68826576
