  5. Upcoming multiplayer combat foot-racing game DeathSprint 66 looks pretty cool, but I still might be a little nervous if I were responsible for making back its budget. A genre of news story we've become pretty familiar with is "niche multiplayer game was great, but not enough people played it to justify keeping the servers on." Knockout City, for example, shut down a couple years after it launched. Rumbleverse lasted only six months. At the Game Developers Conference last month, DeathSprint 66 director Andrew Willans told me that he's confident in the game, saying that playtesters are "overwhelmingly finding something which is very fresh." That freshness, he thinks, is due in part to the scope of the project: It's a medium-sized game from a medium-sized team, and will be "sensibly priced." "I think that [under $70] price bracket … it allows you to be a bit more creative," said Willans. "If you've got a more limited budget than triple-A, and you've got a more limited timeframe to do it, I think you get more innovation on that scale. It's not indie, and it's not triple-A, it's somewhere in between. And when I look at the indie market and the amount of innovation constantly being pushed, there are really exciting things there which you don't tend to see in the bigger triple-A games. And I think there's this lovely middle ground, where we're aiming to be as a studio." https://www.pcgamer.com/games/racing/smaller-games-can-be-more-creative-says-designer-who-made-one-of-ubisofts-most-acclaimed-games-with-a-tiny-team/

However, if you've already tried monday.com and decided it wasn't for you, we also found Teamwork really straightforward and intuitive – creating automations was surprisingly quick and easy. Plus, it only costs $5.99 per user, per month. There's nothing more frustrating than purchasing project management software designed to make you more organized and bring clarity to your work, only to find out that it's going to take you hours to set up – and that half your team thinks it's too complicated to use anyway. In this guide, you'll learn the advantages and disadvantages of the most straightforward, simple project management software platforms you can currently get your hands on. https://tech.co/project-management-software/best-simple-project-management-software
  7. Two types of cutting edge tech have made a bit of a splash over the past few years, while collecting their fair share of criticism: Wearables and Apple's wireless AirPods. Both are seen as useful, but largely optional (unless you're at risk for a stroke, in which case a Series 3 Apple Watch sure would be handy). No one needs a smartwatch to tell them things they can look up on their phone. Decades in the future, however, we might see these two gadgets as a sign of the technology to come. It all depends on whether we can crack Brain-Machine interfaces, and we're a lot farther along than many people realize. The Brain-Machine Interface Wired has the latest on our progress developing a mind-control ability over our technology, a concept which has long lived only in sci-fi. Here's what the startup CTRL-Labs says of their goals on their website: “Our work to build a transformative brain-machine interface spans research and challenges at the intersection of computational neuroscience, statistics, machine learning, biophysics, hardware, and human-computer interaction.” And here's where they're at, per Wired. “CTRL-Labs, which comes with both tech bona fides and an all-star neuroscience advisory board, bypasses the incredibly complicated tangle of connections inside the cranium and dispenses with the necessity of breaking the skin or the skull to insert a chip—the Big Ask of BMI. Instead, the company is concentrating on the rich set of signals controlling movement that travel through the spinal column, which is the nervous system’s low-hanging fruit,” Wired explains. What Do Wearables Have to Do With It? Remember back when AirPods were first announced? Everyone made fun of how easy they were to drop in a toilet, and how crazy it was to need to recharge one's ear buds. And by themselves, they're not that great. But once you add an ability to communicate through brain signals to the expected advances in computing power, a new device emerges: The AirPod could eventually replace smartphones for the role of “main computer in your life.” Once viable, a Brain-Machine interface removes the need for anyone to physically touch their computer. You could communicate directly with a wearable in your ear or on your wrist. As AI develops into areas like facial recognition, actual hand-on-screen contact will continue to be phased out. Brain-Machine interfaces might sound like sci-fi, but given the innovations in tech gadgets over the last few years, they're also the logical conclusion. https://tech.co/news/brain-machine-interfaces-future-2017-09
  8. At this point, it's hard to deny that Facebook has changed the world. From connecting friends across the planet to providing for its employees, the social media company turned tech giant has experimented with everything under the sun. However, Facebook hasn't done a lot of experimentation with hardware, as their model primarily deals in data and software. That is, until now. According to Bloomberg, Facebook's experimental Building 8 has been working on a home video chat device. This will be the social media company's first major hardware product, which makes sense as Building 8 is notably staffed with hardware veterans that likely wanted to get their hands dirty with something less social media-y. This move, while obviously newsworthy, shouldn't come as a huge shock, as Facebook spokespeople have been explaining that the company is trying to find ways to make the world more social while getting them off their smartphones. Regina Dugan, head of Building 8 and former Google executive, explained at the recent F8 conference recently that they want to “create and ship new, category-defining consumer products that are social first.” “I’m optimistic that technology can help, that new hardware platforms can chip away at false choices,” Dugan continued. “If we fail, it’s gonna suck.” To say it would suck is a bit of an understatement. The battle for tech supremacy is essentially televised at this point, with the likes of Amazon and Google vying for as many industries as possible. If Facebook has a prayer in competing in the hardware sector, they're going to have to knock this first iteration out of the park. Honestly though, I've got all the confidence in the world that the fight for the consumers' heart is going to be pretty entertaining to say the least. https://tech.co/news/facebook-video-chat-device-hardware-2017-08
  9. When it comes to puzzle games, mobile is one platform where this genre thrives, with dozens of amazing titles that are both visually pleasing and punishingly difficult. There’s no better way to while away the hours than flexing your brain’s muscles. And now you can do so while reliving the joy of playing with your toy train set in Teeny Tiny Trains. From Short Circuit Studio, the makers of Teeny Tiny Town, Teeny Tiny Trains takes the ‘action’ from city-building and instead to rail-line building. You’ll go from the floor of your bedroom, to the living room and beyond to solve the increasingly complex rail networks needed to make sure your trains reach their destination on time. Okay, so it’s not exactly high-octane action or anything, but don't write it off because of that. Teeny Tiny Trains has more than a few unique selling points that make it one to consider adding to your library. Having gone hands-on with the game, here’s what we thought of Teeny Tiny Trains. https://www.pocketgamer.com/teeny-tiny-trains/review/
  10. As high-earning Indians settle abroad, they're infusing billions into local economies. Shubhangi Sharma is set to host a Holi party later this month at her family home in an affluent part of Berlin. To celebrate the po[CENSORED]r Hindu festival of colours, which falls on 25 March, the 34-year-old will spend around €200 (£171; $218) to cover the costs of the Indian food and sweets she will serve friends; she'll buy the pricey Holi paint online; and wear the traditional clothes she bought as part of an earlier bulk buy during her most recent visit to her hometown, Delhi. Dr Sharma, a microbiologist, and her tech-worker husband, are able to spend freely on traditional festivals like Holi. Living in a double-income household with one young daughter and another child on the way, the couple buy mainly organic foods in their weekly shop, go on holidays ideally every three months and purchase expensive flights for their annual trips back to India. "I moved my investments from India to Germany, so now all my savings are here, and I enjoy investing money in different stock profiles and different exchange-traded funds (ETFs)," says Sharma "We are in the process of buying a house that should go through by the end of the year. It will take away a big chunk of our savings, but it's also a commitment for our future. Overall, the move to Germany has given me economic freedom and stability." Dr Sharma is part of a wider group of Indians who have moved to Germany in recent years, a figure that's been steadily rising following more accommodating visa regulations for highly skilled workers. Many well-educated and English-speaking Indians are acquiring jobs primarily in science, technology, engineering and maths – often high-paying fields. With full-time employees earning a median monthly wage of €4,974 (£4,253; $5,416), Indians now rank as the top immigrant earners in Europe's largest economy. https://www.bbc.com/worklife/article/20240321-global-economic-impact-indian-diaspora
  11. BMW has teased the next-generation M5, specifically the wagon model that's called the M5 Touring. We expect the M5 to have the same plug-in-hybrid V-8 powertrain as the XM, which produces up to 738 hp in the Label Red version. The most exciting news is that BMW will bring the wagon version to the U.S. UPDATE 4/4/24: BMW officially confirmed that the 2025 BMW M5 Touring is coming to the U.S., marking the first time that BMW has ever sold a wagon version of the high-performance model in the States. It will have a hybrid powertrain and promises more cargo space than the upcoming seventh-generation M5 sedan. Production will begin in the fourth quarter of this year, so look forward to hearing more information soon. A new generation of the BMW M5 is enticing enough on its own, but news of an M5 wagon is guaranteed to send car enthusiasts into a tizzy. These new teaser photos show the upcoming M5 Touring for the first time, and we're particularly intrigued given the rumor that the longroof M5 could come to the U.S. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a44344061/bmw-m5-wagon-teaser/
  12. I was an art student in Santiago, Chile, when I was invited to the National Museum of Fine Arts for a private event in June 2005. I had some drinks and needed the bathroom, which was downstairs. On the way, I went into a very dark room – I couldn’t even see the palms of my hands. Then, unknowingly, I walked into Rodin’s Torso of Adele, a small sculpture that is just 11cm high and 37.5cm wide. When I touched it, it was cold. It was the first time Rodin had been exhibited in Chile. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2024/apr/05/experience-i-stole-a-rodin-sculpture-from-a-museum
  13. A fire and rescue service says it has helped develop national standards and protocols after 20 years of animal rescue. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service recognised in 2004, the lack of formal procedures for helping animals who found themselves in tricky situations. So a small team of firefighters formed a new unit to provide specialist advice. Over the last two decades, the service has rescued a cow from a swimming pool, a python stuck in a car and a badger who used a cat flap to enter a house. Firefighter Jim Green was one of the founding members of the team. Mr Green said he has been involved with hundreds of incidents and many "successful and rewarding rescues". He said: "When emergencies happen to people, they also happen to animals." "I am proud of the contribution the Hampshire team have made over the years to our national understanding of this unique rescue type," he added. A memorable rescue for the team involved three Shire horses stuck in a bog near Basingstoke. Each horse weighed nearly a tonne and the team rescued all three horses unharmed, with just people power. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cz9zz3zj11po
  14. The bottom-of-the-table Blades were on course for a shock draw at Anfield, but Mac Allister - a World Cup winner with Argentina - scored with a brilliant 20-yard strike into the top corner to put the Reds 2-1 up. Cody Gakpo added a 90th-minute third as Liverpool returned to the top of the table. Boss Klopp said: "We needed Macca's wonder goal to turn it around. He is super important for us, a wonderful player and a wonderful boy - I'm really happy for Liverpool that we got him. "His defensive work has been really good where people were doubting if he could be defensive, but I prefer him in the eight [attacking midfield]. "He is a really good player. In the first half he was playing [as a] six, but we knew we could move him slightly higher. Then he scores this kind of goal, the two biggest screamers of the season [after also scoring from long distance against Fulham] have come from him. Then the free-kick directly after [the goal] - absolutely insane, what a player." Visit our Liverpool page Access all our Sheffield United content Mac Allister, who joined Liverpool for £35m from Brighton last summer, also hit the crossbar with a curling free-kick. Liverpool were gifted a 17th-minute lead when Darwin Nunez charged down goalkeeper Ivo Grbic's clearance with the ball rebounding into the net. Despite having 84% of possession in the first half and wasting numerous chances, the hosts conceded a 58th-minute equaliser as Gustavo Hamer's header bounced off Conor Bradley and into his own net. But Mac Allister - nominated for March's Premier League Player of the Month award - put the hosts back in front with 14 minutes left, before substitute Gakpo's header sealed a vital success. The result moved the Reds two points clear of Arsenal and three ahead of reigning champions Manchester City, with eight league games left. More importantly, it also kept Liverpool's title destiny in their own hands. They know if they beat Manchester United, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Everton, West Ham, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Wolves, it will secure their second Premier League title and confirm them as top-flight English champions for a 20th time. Liverpool v Sheffield United as it happened, plus reaction and analysis Reds rally for victory, but late goals frustrate Wilder The visitors were looking to win at Anfield for the first time since Jostein Flo scored twice in a 2-1 win on 2 April, 1994, while Liverpool had not lost a home league match in 27 games - a 2-1 reverse against Leeds in October 2022. But Sheffield United nearly made a dream start, only for home goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to make an excellent save to deny James McAtee in the opening 90 seconds. Striker Ben Brereton Diaz was then unable to convert Auston Trusty's flick-on from the resulting corner. However, the visitors gifted the Reds an early goal with Grbic's clearance charged down by Nunez, who scored his 18th club goal of the season in all competitions. The only mystery was how it was only 1-0 at half-time. Mohamed Salah twice missed the target when well placed, Nunez headed wide and shot at Grbic and Joe Gomez - still without a Liverpool goal - curled an effort past the post. Ryan Gravenberch slipped when taking a shot after great skill from Luis Diaz and Dominik Szoboszlai fired just off target and forced a good stop from Grbic. Diaz's 25-yard attempt also went just wide as the chances came and went for Liverpool. But Klopp's side were given a warning that the match was not over just before the break when Jayden Bogle forced a smart save from Kelleher. Then, against the run of play, the Blades equalised as Anfield started to get nervous in what could have been a devastating loss of two points. It needed something special to change the course of the outcome - and Mac Allister provided it with a glorious strike for one of the goals of the season to calm the home fans' nerves before Gakpo put the game to bed. For the struggling Blades, they would not have expected to get anything from Anfield, with boss Chris Wilder admitting beforehand they needed "a huge night" if they were to cause an upset. "The narrative at the press conference before the game and in the interviews was a sense that we were just here to make the numbers up and this was going to be a comfortable evening for Liverpool," said Wilder afterwards. "That was not our motivation, or our emotions and we try to do everything for the club. In possession they dominated, they dominate everybody, but we hung on in there. We had good opportunities. "We got done by a world-class goal. In the last 15 minutes, you saw the power of the Premier League, and our Achilles heel has been conceding late goals." The Blades are trying to avoid an instant return to the Championship and are 10 points adrift of safety, although they still have four of their relegation rivals - Brentford, Burnley, Nottingham Forest and Everton - still to play. Liverpool, Premier League winners under Klopp in 2019-20, next face a huge game on Sunday at Manchester United - the side that beat them 4-3 after extra time in a thrilling FA Cup quarter-final at Old Trafford last month. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/68681424
  15. Israel military sacks two senior officers over killing of aid workers and says strikes were a tragedy The Israeli military said on Friday that it has dismissed two officers and reprimanded three others for their roles in drone strikes in Gaza that killed seven aid workers on a food-delivery mission, saying they had mishandled critical information and violated the army’s rules of engagement. The findings of a retired general’s investigation into the Monday killings marked an embarrassing admission by Israel, which faces growing accusations from key allies, including the US, of not doing enough to protect Gaza’s civilians from its war with Hamas, AP reports. The findings are likely to renew scepticism over the Israeli military’s decision-making. Palestinians, aid groups and human rights organisations have repeatedly accused Israeli forces of firing recklessly at civilians throughout the conflict — a charge Israel denies. “It’s a tragedy,” the military’s spokesman, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, told reporters. “It’s a serious event that we are responsible for and it shouldn’t have happened and we will make sure that it won’t happen again.” With pressure mounting on Israel to hold itself accountable, Hagari and other officials late Thursday shared with reporters the results of the military’s uncommonly speedy and detailed investigation. It was unclear whether the punishments and the apology would calm an international outcry over the deaths of the World Central Kitchen workers or reassure international aid groups that it was safe to resume operations in Gaza, where nearly a third of the po[CENSORED]tion is on the brink of starvation. According to what spokespeople said were the Israeli army’s rules, targets must be visually identified as threats for multiple reasons before they can be hit. But the investigation determined that a colonel had authorized the series of deadly drone strikes on the convoy based on one major’s observation — from grainy drone-camera footage — that someone in the convoy was armed. That observation turned out to be untrue, military officials said. The army said the colonel and the major were dismissed, while three other officers were reprimanded. It said the results of its investigation were turned over to the military’s advocate general, who will decide whether the officers or anyone else involved in the killings should receive further punishment or be prosecuted. https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2024/apr/05/middle-east-crisis-live-us-welcomes-israeli-plan-to-reopen-erez-crossing-for-gaza-aid
