  2. After earning an M.B.A. at Kent State University and working for International Business Machines Corp., Umang Gupta was tempted to return to his native India and start his own company. He went home for an extended visit in late 1977. Then he was lured back by two things, a girlfriend and a sense that Silicon Valley was his best career bet. He married the young woman, Ruth Pike, in 1980 and raised a family with her. He signed on as employee No. 17 at what became the software giant Oracle Corp. He launched his own software company, Gupta Technologies Inc., in 1984. Initially successful, that business floundered in the mid-1990s as Oracle and Microsoft Corp. muscled into its niche. “For the first time in my life I felt like a failure," Mr. Gupta wrote later. He got another chance in January 1998 when he was named chief executive officer of Keynote Systems Inc. A pioneer in selling software as a subscription service, Keynote gave companies a way to measure the performance of their websites. Mr. Gupta expanded the company and sold it in 2013 to Thoma Bravo LLC for about $395 million. In recent years, Mr. Gupta assembled a team to develop a free application called Reading Racer to help children learn to read. Mr. Gupta died April 19. He was 72 and had been under treatment for cancer for 2½ years. He told friends that, faced with severe pain and bleak survival prospects, he was ending his life under a California law allowing doctors to prescribe an aid-in-dying drug. Umang Pavel Gupta was born Aug. 23, 1949, in Patiala, in the northern Indian state of Punjab. His father was a civil servant in the labor ministry. His mother was a left-wing activist whose causes included organizing miners. His parents separated, and young Umang attended boarding schools before enrolling at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, where he earned a chemical engineering degree in 1971. He chose Kent State in Ohio for his M.B.A. studies largely because he could support himself by working as a teaching assistant there. He then worked briefly at Copperweld Steel Co. before jumping to IBM. While working for IBM in Ohio, he spotted his future wife at a bar and asked her to dance. Raised near London, she was an immigrant too. They began dating, but Mr. Gupta felt the pull of his homeland. "It was either Ruth or India," he wrote later in the New York Times. “I went back to India in order to make a decision." He returned to the U.S. in mid-1978 and tried to start a company. After failing to interest venture capitalists, he joined Larry Ellison’s Relational Software, later known as Oracle, where he helped write a business plan and became a vice president. In 1984, Mr. Gupta left Oracle to found Gupta Technologies, later called Gupta Corp., which offered a new type of database software for personal-computer networks. The company went public in 1993 and soared to a market value of around $400 million, then plunged. Mr. Gupta told The Wall Street Journal he had a net worth of nearly $100 million for a few days. Oracle considered acquiring Mr. Gupta’s company in 1994, but he couldn’t bear the idea of selling what he called his baby—a decision he later regretted. In 1996, he resigned as chief executive and left the company. “My dad once told me, ‘No victory is final, and no defeat is fatal,’" he said. “I hadn’t paid attention." Stung by what he saw as a failure, he traveled with his family across America—he was particularly entranced by a history museum in Deadwood, S.D.—and read a book a day for months. “I started to think of all the things I should have done to make the company outlast me," he said. One of his conclusions was that he should have hired people willing to challenge his ideas. “Decisions can’t be based just on what the founder knows or his gut feels," he said. He joined the board of Keynote Systems in 1997 and was named CEO a few months later. The company had a successful initial public offering in 1999 and then raised additional capital, helping it survive the dot.com bust. While running that company, he encouraged board members to give him critical feedback, said Raymond L. Ocampo Jr., who was a Keynote director. “He didn’t want yes people," Mr. Ocampo said. Mr. Gupta is survived by his wife, Ruth Gupta, along with two children, three grandchildren and two sisters. His philanthropy included donations to the Indian Institute of Technology and to a gallery on immigrants at the San Mateo County History Museum in Redwood City, Calif. The Guptas also funded Raji House in Burlingame, Calif., to provide services for children with developmental disabilities. It is named for their son Raji, who died at age 2. Shortly before dying, Mr. Gupta set up a foundation to continue support of the Reading Racer app, which he developed with a team including Melanie Lam and Rodrigo Cano, both graduates of Carnegie Mellon University. During his treatment for cancer, one of his small pleasures was rinsing his blue Mercedes CL600 at Ducky’s carwash in San Mateo, Calif. He assured friends that, given his thrifty nature and uncertain prognosis, he was being careful not to buy too many carwash coupons.
  3. The past few years have been challenging for PC, hardware, and tech-related industries. Ongoing COVID-19 restrictions are still having supply chain impacts to this day, resulting in component shortages tricking amongst countless industries. Chip shortages have throttled CPU and GPU production, while scalpers, miners, and gougers haven’t let off, either. The recent COVID-19 lockdowns in China, where Shanghai witnessed draconian lockdown measures, certainly didn’t help the global situation. However, slowly but surely, things are starting to reflect a sense of normalcy to how things used to be pre-pandemic. PC shipments dipped 4.3 percent year over year in Q2 2021 to reach 78.7 million units, according to Counterpoint’s latest report, a global industry analysis firm headquartered in Asia. Lenovo maintained its spot as the top global vendor based on 18.2 million units shipped. Albeit, that’s down about 9.5 percent compared to the same period exactly one year ago. It’s worth mentioning Lenovo performed well during the pandemic largely due to in-house manufacturing and operation control, directly combating logistic and supply chain issues plaguing other competitor companies. HP captured the second spot with 15.9 million PCs shipped, about a 15.4 percent year-over-year dip. Dell and Apple saw shipments increase by 1.5 percent and 7.6 percent, respectively. It’s a good bet that component shortages are going to ease in H2 2022. Since late 2021, demand-supply gaps have been shrinking, signaling an impending end to supply tightness across the broader ecosystem. That’s good news for every related industry, including PC gaming to current-generation consoles looking to reach as many consumers as possible.
  4. In its latest developer diary, Hinterland Studio says that a The Long Dark season pass is coming “later this year” – which will represent the first paid DLC for the po[CENSORED]r survival game since it was released eight years ago in 2014, as the studio founder hands the reins to a new lead. In a lengthy April update on Steam, Hinterland founder Raphael van Lierop talks about the future of The Long Dark and the changes coming to the open-world game – specifically, about the team’s plans to “decouple” the sandbox survival mode and the story mode. He explains how The Long Dark has steadily “increased in scope and complexity” to the point where it has become “unwieldy”. Furthermore, the close connection between the two modes meant that certain planned updates for one mode “couldn’t really be done because of how they might impact the other”. However, the team is now at the stage where it can “update survival independently of story”. According to Raphael, players can now expect “a whole new era of survival mode content updates that will bring new life and new energy back into The Long Dark”. To that end, Hinterland confirms that paid DLC for survival mode is coming as “some kind of ‘season pass’-type approach” with a “15-18 month campaign of updates” including new regions, challenges, mechanics, and more – which should release in the second half of 2022. For anyone who doesn’t want a full season pass, Hinterlands says it will meter these out in “3-4 individual paid DLC packages”, and there will still be free content too. Episode five of the story mode should hit in 2023. Beyond that, Raphael van Lierop also says he is stepping down as project lead in favour of lead designer Katie Sorrell. He will remain at Hinterland as creative director and will start work on a new project, where he will “attempt to come up with something that has even greater longevity and impact that The Long Dark has had”.
  5. Developer tap4fun has announced its latest project, a strategy game called Kingdom Guard, will launch on the Samsung Galaxy Store app platform as well as the Amazon App Store. This title features plenty of deep systems, encouraging players to utilize every single structure at their disposal as well as some hardcore strategizing to make sure they can defeat all of the challenges thrown their way. The release onto new platforms will allow the already po[CENSORED]r kingdom management game to reach new audiences and become even bigger. Kingdom Guard has been out since the middle of last year, and since then, has topped the charts in numerous countries. Featuring an in-depth tower defense style gameplay that grows more and more challenging as you progress further, this one requires plenty of forward-thinking and planning ahead to avoid getting overwhelmed. The actual gameplay involves defending an egg from invading hordes of foes throughout various levels. The units at your disposal range from elven archers, fire wizards, ice witches, and goblins rocking massive cannons. You’ll place these units on several platforms spread along a planned path and watch them do battle with the oncoming hordes of enemies. In a unique twist on the tower defense genre, you can swap out these units as you please without any timer or cooldown, meaning you can truly stay on your toes and make sure you’re using the right units at all times. The foes you’ll be striking down include rogues, orcs, and cyclops bosses that will appear at the end of each level. All of this leads to a pretty in-depth and intelligent tower defense game that will test your skills and reflexes in keeping up with swapping your units around and making sure you’re on top of things. If that sounds like something you’d enjoy, you can find Kingdom Guard for free on the App Store, Google Play, and now the Amazon App Store and is soon to launch on the Samsung Galaxy App Store. 7. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), the Chinese Special Territory's central bank, has issued a discussion paper on the possible direction a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) issued by Hong Kong could take. Referred to as the e-HKD by the HKMA, the paper focusses on the policy and design issues of a CBDC, but also tries to question whether the issuance of a CBDC should be necessary in the first place. The HKMA struggles to find any strong justification apart from innovation and has opened a public consultation on the topic. The HKMA also issued a warning in the discussion paper saying that stablecoins posed a risk to the stability of the Hong Kong dollar. The “e-HKD: A Policy and Design Perspective” discussion paper said, “In a scenario where the use of these stablecoins becomes widespread… the role of the domestic currency as the single unit of account could be undermined The HKMA mentioned the risks posed by stablecoins and how these private cryptocurrencies could undermine the integrity of the payment system because of failures in the operational and financial sectors. These stablecoins could also promote capital flight during periods of financial recession, undermining the control of the government over the local economy. Hong Kong commenced its official study about a CBDC in June last year. That said, the HKMA has been assessing the benefits of issuing a wholesale CBDC since 2017. The authority focuses on retail-focused CBDCs that target the general public and can be used as an alternative to fiat currencies in making daily transactions. As things stand, the HKMA has not given any commitment to launching a CBDC. The recent discussion paper has invited various industry leaders and the public to give detailed feedback about a CBDC and the potential benefits and risks of creating an e-HKD. The HKMA has also invited feedback about the design of the CBDC. The design features being considered include interoperability, the right retail-CBDC issuance mechanism, potential use cases, legal framework, privacy and consumer protection measures. The issuance of the discussion paper also shows Hong Kong's increased interest in launching CBDCs. The interest in CBDCs can be attributed to the rapid growth of the private cryptocurrency sector in the country, despite the high risks of volatility.

  12. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg reassures that the company is now “laying the groundwork for a very successful 2030s.” Facebook owner Meta has revealed in an earnings report that its virtual and augmented reality division, Reality Labs, has posted roughly $2.9 billion (roughly Rs. 22,970 crore) in losses in Q1 of 2022. As per the report released on Wednesday, Reality Labs brought in a revenue of $695 million (roughly Rs. 5,320 crore) over the first quarter of the year, and while it surpassed the Wall Street-expected $683 million (roughly Rs. 5,230 crore), it nonetheless represents a minuscule percentage of the $27.2 billion (roughly Rs. 2,08,245 crore) in revenue generated by Meta's other apps, including Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Reality Labs may not yet be profitable by a long shot, but it is laying the groundwork for an “exciting 2030s,” said Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, in an after-hours earnings call. "I recognise it's expensive to build this, it's something that's never been built before. And it's a new paradigm for computing and social connection," Zuckerberg said. "So, over the next several years our goal from a financial perspective is to generate sufficient operating income growth from Family of Apps to fund the growth of investment in Reality Labs, while still growing our overall profitability." Meta's focus for now, Zuckerberg said, will be on building out better hardware and Horizon Worlds, the company's latest social VR product, to help creators make money. “Our other focus for Horizon is building out the metaverse economy, and helping creators make a living working in the metaverse," said Zuckerberg. "We expect to be meaningfully better at monetization than others in the space, and we expect that should become a sustainable advantage for our platforms as they develop." On the hardware side, the company is working on developing virtual reality headsets. It is scheduled to release a higher-end VR headset, codenamed Project Cambria, later this year. That headset will be designed specifically for work use cases and eventually “replace your laptop and work set up,” according to Zuckerberg. The hardware devices will also feature eye tracking and face tracking technology so users can make good eye contact in the virtual world. In a bid to offer people a glimpse into the company's all-virtual future, Meta Platforms recently decided to open a 1,550 square-foot retail store on the company's Reality Labs campus in Burlingame, California. The company also plans to release a high-end virtual-reality headset and would continue to develop Project Nazare, which is Meta's first fully augmented reality glasses. 13. When the job of a young east coast-based analyst – we’ll call him James – went remote with the pandemic, he didn’t envisage any problems. The company, a large US retailer for which he has been a salaried employee for more than half a decade, provided him with a laptop, and his home became his new office. Part of a team dealing with supply chain issues, the job was a busy one, but never had he been reprimanded for not working hard enough. So it was a shock when his team was hauled in one day late last year to an online meeting to be told there was gaps in its work: specifically periods when people – including James himself, he was later informed – weren’t inputting information into the company’s database. As far as team members knew, no one had been watching them on the job. But as it became clear what had happened, James grew furious. Can a company really use computer monitoring tools – known as “bossware” to critics – to tell if you’re productive at work? Or if you’re about to run away to a competitor with proprietary knowledge? Or even, simply, if you’re happy? Many companies in the US and Europe now appear – controversially – to want to try, spurred on by the enormous shifts in working habits during the pandemic, in which countless office jobs moved home and seem set to either stay there or become hybrid. This is colliding with another trend among employers towards the quantification of work – whether physical or digital – in the hope of driving efficiency. “The rise of monitoring software is one of the untold stories of the Covid pandemic,” says Andrew Pakes, deputy general secretary of Prospect, a UK labor union. that went remote during the pandemic are a particular area of growth. A survey last September by review site Digital.com of 1,250 US employers found 60% with remote employees are using work monitoring software of some type, most commonly to track web browsing and application use. And almost nine out of 10 of the companies said they had terminated workers after implementing monitoring software. The number and array of tools now on offer to continuously monitor employees’ digital activity and provide feedback to managers is remarkable. Tracking technology can also log keystrokes, take screenshots, record mouse movements, activate webcams and microphones, or periodically snap pictures without employees knowing. And a growing subset incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) and complex algorithms to make sense of the data being collected. One AI monitoring technology, Veriato, gives workers a daily “risk score” which indicates the likelihood they pose a security threat to their employer. This could be because they may accidentally leak something, or because they intend to steal data or intellectual property. The score is made up from many components, but it includes what an AI sees when it examines the text of a worker’s emails and chats to purportedly determine their sentiment, or changes in it, that can point towards disgruntlement. The company can then subject those people to closer examination. “This is really about protecting consumers and investors as well as employees from making accidental mistakes,” says Elizabeth Harz, CEO. Another company making use of AI, RemoteDesk, has a product meant for remote workers whose job requires a secure environment, because for example they are dealing with credit card details or health information. It monitors workers through their webcams with real-time facial recognition and object detection technology to ensure that no one else looks at their screen and that no recording device, like a phone, comes into view. It can even trigger alerts if a worker eats or drinks on the job, if a company prohibits it. RemoteDesk’s own description of its technology for “work-from-home obedience” caused consternation on Twitter last year. (That language didn’t capture the company’s intention and has been changed, its CEO, Rajinish Kumar, told the Guardian.) But tools that claim to assess a worker’s productivity seem poised to become the most ubiquitous. In late 2020, Microsoft rolled out a new product it called Productivity Score which rated employee activity across its suite of apps, including how often they attended video meetings and sent emails. A widespread backlash ensued, and Microsoft apologised and revamped the product so workers couldn’t be identified. But some smaller companies are happily pushing the envelope. Prodoscore, founded in 2016, is one. Its software is being used to monitor about 5000 workers at various companies. Each employee gets a daily “productivity score” out of 100 which is sent to a team’s manager and the worker, who will also see their ranking among their peers. The score is calculated by a proprietary algorithm that weighs and aggregates the volume of a worker’s input across all the company’s business applications – email, phones, messaging apps, databases. demonstrating they are actually working at home. “[Just] keep your Prodoscore north of 70,” says Naficy. And because it is only scoring a worker based on their activity, it doesn’t come with the same gender, racial or other biases that human managers might, the company argues. Prodoscore doesn’t suggest that businesses make consequential decisions for workers – for example about bonuses, promotions or firing – based on its scores. Though “at the end of the day, it’s their discretion”, says Naficy. Rather it is intended as a “complementary measurement” to a worker’s actual outputs, which can help businesses see how people are spending their time or rein in overworking. Naficy lists legal and tech firms as its customers, but those approached by the Guardian declined to speak about what they do with the product. One, the major US newspaper publisher Gannett, responded that it is only used by a small sales division of about 20 people. A video surveillance company named DTiQ is quoted on Prodoscore’s website as saying that declining scores accurately predicted which employees would leave. Prodoscore shortly plans to launch a separate “happiness/wellbeing index” which will mine a team’s chats and other communications in an attempt to discover how workers are feeling. It would, for example, be able to forewarn of an unhappy employee who may need a break, Naficy claims. But what do workers themselves think about being surveilled like this? James and the rest of his team at the US retailer learned that, unbeknownst to them, the company had been monitoring their keystrokes into the database. In the moment when he was being rebuked, James realized some of the gaps would actually be breaks – employees needed to eat. Later, he reflected hard on what had happened. While having his keystrokes tracked surreptitiously was certainly disquieting, it wasn’t what really smarted. Rather what was “infuriating”, “soul crushing” and a “kick in the teeth” was that the higher-ups had failed to grasp that inputting data was only a small part of his job, and was therefore a bad measure of his performance. Communicating with vendors and couriers actually consumed most of his time. "It was the lack of human oversight,” he says. “It was ‘your numbers are not matching what we want, despite the fact that you have proven your performance is good’… They looked at the individual analysts almost as if we were robots.” To critics, this is indeed a dismaying landscape. “A lot of these technologies are largely untested,” says Lisa Kresge, a research and policy associate at the University of California, Berkeley Labor Centre and co-author of the recent report Data and Algorithms at Work. Productivity scores give the impression that they are objective and impartial and can be trusted because they are technologically derived – but are they? Many use activity as a proxy for productivity, but more emails or phone calls don’t necessarily translate to being more productive or performing better. And how the proprietary systems arrive at their scores is often as unclear to managers as it is to workers, says Kresge. Moreover systems that automatically classify a worker’s time into “idle” and “productive” are making value judgments about what is and isn’t productive, notes Merve Hickok, research director at the Center for AI and Digital Policy and founder of AIethicist.org. A worker who takes time to train or coach a colleague might be classified as unproductive because there is less traffic originating from their computer, she says. And productivity scores that force workers to compete can lead to them trying to game the system rather than actually do productive work. AI models, often trained on databases of previous subjects’ behaviour, can also be inaccurate and bake in bias. Problems with gender and racial bias have been well documented in facial recognition technology. And there are privacy issues. Remote monitoring products that involve a webcam can be particularly problematic: there could be a clue a worker is pregnant (a crib in the background), of a certain sexual orientation or living with an extended family. “It gives employers a different level of information than they would have otherwise,” says Hickok. There is also a psychological toll. Being monitored lowers your sense of perceived autonomy, explains Nathanael Fast, an associate professor of management at the University of Southern California who co-directs its Psychology of Technology Institute. And that can increase stress and anxiety. Research on workers in the call centre industry – which has been a pioneer of electronic monitoring – highlights the direct relationship between extensive monitoring and stress. Computer programmer and remote work advocate David Heinemeier Hansson has been waging a one-company campaign against the vendors of the technology. Early in the pandemic he announced that the company he co-founded, Basecamp, which provides project management software for remote working, would ban vendors of the technology from integrating with it. The companies tried to push back, says Hansson – “very few of them see themselves as purveyors of surveillance technology” – but Basecamp couldn’t be complicit in supporting technology that resulted in workers being subjected to such “inhuman treatment”, he says. Hansson isn’t naive enough to think his stance is going to change things. Even if other companies followed Basecamp’s lead, it wouldn’t be enough to quench the market. What is really needed, argue Hansson and other critics, is better laws regulating how employers can use algorithms and protect workers’ mental health. In the US, except in a few states that have introduced legislation, employers aren’t even required to specifically disclose monitoring to workers. (The situation is better in the UK and Europe, where general rights around data protection and privacy exist, but the system suffers from lack of enforcement.) Hansson also urges managers to reflect on their desire to monitor workers. Tracking may catch that “one goofer out of 100” he says. “But what about the other 99 whose environment you have rendered completely insufferable?” As for James, he is looking for another job where “toxic” monitoring habits aren’t a feature of work life. … we have a small favour to ask. 19. Developers have almost three months to complete the section with information about what data their apps are collecting and for what purposes. Google on Tuesday announced the release of its Data safety section in Google Play that will allow users to look at the information about how apps collect, share, and secure their data. The move, which was first announced in May last year, is similar to how Apple introduced privacy nutrition labels in 2020. All developers publishing their apps on Google Play are required to complete the new section with information about how their apps collect and share user data by as early as July 20. Users will start seeing the Data safety section in Google Play from Wednesday, Google said in a blog post. The section will have different elements to let users know what data an app is collecting and for what purpose it is being collected. It will also show users whether the developer of the listed app is sharing their data with third parties. Google said that the Data safety section will help users get "more visibility into how apps collect, share, secure their data" on their Android devices.
  20. On Monday, 45-year-old Alexei Saab faced trial in one of the many New York City buildings he has been accused of plotting to bomb. A New Jersey software developer, Alexei Saab, lived a double life as a “sleeper agent” for Islamic militant group Hezbollah, and scouted terror targets in New York City, federal prosecutors said on Monday during the start of his trial. According to New York Post, Mr Saab, a US citizen since 2008, was arrested by the feds in 2019 and charged with several counts, including terrorism, for allegedly providing materials to the terrorist group. On Monday, Mr Saab faced trial in one of the many New York City buildings he has been accused of plotting to bomb. As per the Post, the former sleeper agent for Hezbollah allegedly moved to the United States in 2000 from Lebanon with a secret mission to apply for citizenship and plan a future attack on behalf of the militant group designated a foreign terrorist organisation. In his opening statement, Assistant US Attorney Sam Adelsberg noted that the 45-year-old kept up appearances as a “normal” law-abiding US citizen, while also gathering intelligence on a number of tunnels and bridges. “He posed as a regular guy,” Mr Adelsberg said, adding, “In reality, he was a sleeper agent for Hezbollah ready to strike.”
  21. Lego is releasing an official 2600 console and controller to commemorate Atari’s 50th anniversary. It’s due later this year and should provide a healthy dose of nostalgia for old-school gamers and collectors of ’70s and 80’s memorabilia. Atari’s 2600 was initially released in 1977 and was rebranded as the VCS in 1982 so it’s celebrating its 40th and 45th anniversary. The console was instrumental in bringing gaming into peoples’ homes and shipped over 30 million copies in its lifetime. However, it fell from grace in its later years and led to the video game crash of 1983. Some of its most po[CENSORED]r games included Pac-Man, Frogger, Pitfall, and Space Invaders, which are still available on some platforms today. According to Promobricks, the Lego Atari will almost be a life-size representation of the console and stay true to form with an all-black look with brown wood panels. It will be hinged and open to reveal a scene from the game Pitfall and includes a replica CX40 joystick and game cartridge. It’s Lego’s second console release following 2021’s Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Nintendo’s console that’s known for dragging the world out of the video game crash with games like Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt. The 2,646-piece replica includes a controller and an old TV with Super Mario Bros on the screen. The 2600 is being released to commemorate Atari’s 50th anniversary and should be available from Lego in August 2022 before release on other online retailers in January 2023. Pricing is around $199.99, but it’s not confirmed and may change before launch.
  22. Updated on April 25, 2022 - We have the official release date! Read more below. Back in 2018 when Diablo Immortal was first announced at BlizzCon, it didn't receive a... positive reaction. However, some time has passed since then, and more news regarding the game has been released. Many people have changed their minds in regards to the game, while others have stood by their choice. No matter which side you fall into, the opinions will always be split - even after the official release As for how exactly the gameplay will be, that's an entirely different story. And since you are here, chances are you're trying to find out as much as possible before forming an opinion on it (or you are desperately looking for reasons to change your sour first impression, which is the case for myself). Either way, we've got you covered. Below you'll find everything we know so far about Diablo Immorta WHAT IS DIABLO IMMORTA To those who are not yet familiar with the age-old series, Diablo is an aRPG (action role-playing game) that was first released back in 1997. Diablo Immortal is the latest entry announced for the series, and it will feature the same style of game, but on a different platform: Mobile The action in Diablo Immortal takes place sometime in between Diablo II and Diablo III, tying this title to the pre-existing series through the main storyline, while still being relevant in and of itself for players who aren't familiar with them Players will have to find and destroy shards of the Worldstone in order to keep the cultists and the undead at bay and prevent any world-threatening scenario. As you might have guessed, there will be a battle between "good and evil", or rather, between the "Immortals" and the "Shadows While the game will experience several familiar features, such as the destructive environment, Rifts and quests, there is one major difference that basically places Diablo Immortal in an entirely different universe from Diablo II and III - the skill casting. Mana will be completely removed, as well as every other class-specific resource. Instead, a cooldown system will be in plac Who is developing i The game will be a collaboration between Blizzard Entertainment and NetEase, which is a well-established company with plenty of po[CENSORED]r titles under its belt. From Onmyoji to LifeAfter and Extraordinary Ones, the company is known to be a force in the mobile gaming scene WHEN WILL DIABLO IMMORTAL BE RELEASE Finally, we have the official release date for Diablo Immortal, and it's June, 2nd, 2022! You can check the announcement in the video below https://youtu.be/_sDxsXYn7 If we check on Play Store, we will see the “coming soon” placeholder, and can pre-register for the game there too, and since March 28, 2022, Apple users are also able to pre-register, and you'll both get a nice set of Horadrim Cosmetic The closed beta is out now but it's limited to a few regions on In one of their announcements, Blizzard stated that the closed beta will start on October 28th, 2021. The sad part is that it will be limited to Canada and Australia for now In November 2021, the Diablo Immortal closed beta got expanded to Japan, China, and South Korea. They also announced Necromancer as the latest addition to existing classes. It also had a couple of patch releases and a first official event As of February 24th, 2022 the closed beta has just come to an end, and that takes us one step closer to the official Diablo Immortal release date HOW WILL DIABLO IMMORTAL PLA In Diablo Immortal, the graphical style will be a mish-mash between Diablo II and Diablo III - not as simple and pixelated as in II, and not as "smooth" as in III. Fairly simplified isometric graphics make adjusting to the mobile platform a lot easier, so don't expect them to be highly defined as in other mobile MMORPG As far as the gameplay goes, the multiplayer element should balance out the single-player one, allowing for plenty of features that resemble your typical MMOs, such as guilds, multiplayer dungeons and shared social spaces, but also rich single-player dungeons. After th WHY HAS THE GAME HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED YE There could be a number of reasons why the game has not yet been released, and why there has been such little information on it. For start, the world hasn't exactly been the same - the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and that set back everyone, including developers worldwide. Secondly, after BlizzCon 2021, we know that Blizzard is also working on other titles in parallel, including Diablo IV. Could it be that they're dedicating fewer resources to it? We don't know All we know for sure is that the game is currently an alpha testing in Australia and that only means it's bound to release sooner or later (let's hope for the former) Can we play it on P The short answer to this would be no, Diablo Immortal will not be playable on PC. If you are running emulators, it could be possible, but they'll need to have the following requirements WILL DIABLO IMMORTAL BE ON SWITCH? WHAT ABOUT CONTROLLER SUPPOR What we know for sure is that the game will feature touchscreen controls - yes, Nintendo Switch does indeed have touchscreen capabilities, but sadly we can't say for sure that it will be available. If we were to rely solely on what Matthew Burger said during a Q&A session at BlizzCon in 2018, "Yes, it’s also on the Switch. You’re right!” As for the controller support, Wyatt Cheng claimed the following in a Reddit post: "We are actively investigating controller support. The main challenge right now is that full controller support isn't just movement and skill usage, it's also menus, inventory management, paragon trees, NPC UIs, chat, etc. To set some expectations - we would love to see controller support but full controller support may not make the release version of the game. New in! On February 24th, 2022 it was announced that Diablo Immortal has finished updating some of its control support features, so we're happy to see that it's more than just a rumour. We'll actually get controller support in Diablo Immortal, even if it might not be at launch TLDR; we might not get controller support at launch, but it's most certainly something we will see in the future HOW TO PLAY DIABLO IMMORTA At the moment, the game is in closed beta stages, which is locked only for Australia, Japan, Korea and a few other regions. Make sure you follow the official Diablo Immortal Twitter page because they sometimes hold random draws where players can win access to the closed beta IS THE GAME FREE (FREE-TO-PLAY / F2P) The game will be available for free, it will be completely free-to-play, but there will be some sort of monetization and IAPs. Of course, it's Diablo, so all of the equipment will be available only via grinding (hopefully not for hundreds of hours!) Most of the IAPs will consist of Crests, which will be used with Elder Rifts for varied rewards, Reforge Stones, Specialized Reforged Stones, and - you guessed it - a battle pass THE AGE-OLD QUESTION: DIABLO IMMORTAL VS DIABLO I When it comes to new names, there will never be a shortage of them. However, in the Diablo world, this is something quite different. While we're eagerly expecting new names, those names need to meet certain player expectations. Diablo Immortal and Diablo IV are 2 different games - the former is a game entirely for mobile, while the latter is a PC game As for Diablo Immortal being cross-platform, that won't happen Now that we've shed some light on some of the crucial aspects of the game, let's take a look at some more information that you might be interested in. We won't get into too much detail, so you should find these brief answers short and to the point Q: What are the classes in Diablo Immorta A: The current classes are: Barbarian, Monk, Necromancer, Wizard, Demon Hunter, Crusader. For more info, take a look at our classes guide Q: Is Diablo Immortal available for iO A: Yes, it will be. At the moment the game is in the alpha testing period, but once it will be released, it will be available for iOS users Q: Will Diablo Immortal have Pv A: YES! It will have a PvP feature, the Battlegrounds, where players can partake in 8v8 PvP battles Q: Is Diablo Immortal cancelle A: Most certainly it is not. We expect it to be released in June 2022 Q: Is Diablo Immortal offlin A: The game will be online, so players will require a steady connection to the internet Q: Will Diablo Immortal be pay-to-wi A: There is no certain answer to this question at this point in time. While we're all too familiar with the mobile games being mostly p2w through microtransactions, the actual game requires people to acquire their equipment only by playing and slaying enemies. Unless there will be some sort of trade system which turns premium currency into game-tradeable items, it probably won't become pay-to-win Q: How to gain access to the alpha/beta testing in Diablo Immorta A: To gain access to alpha or beta testing, you'll need a special key. Follow the game's social media, because sometimes they hold alpha testing access giveaways. At the moment, however, the beta phase has just come to an end and that means we're one step closer to the official release. Q: What are Warbands in Diablo Immortal A: Warbands are a feature meant to encourage players to team up, sort of like parties running dungeons. That has been expanded in the beta testing and we're definitely going to see it introduced in the official launch.? l?.n?.e?!d?.P?.S?.l?...V?!.?.L?.. Although clouds are the dominant feature in the Earth image, it showed the west coast outline of South America at the lower right Ever wondered how the Earth and the Moon would appear when seen from a Martian orbit? NASA has shared an image that showed them together in a single frame. The image was caught by NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) when the Earth was 142 million kilometres from Mars. In the image, only the visible parts of the Earth and the Moon can be seen. While the Earth appeared in blue, the moon looked white against a dark, black canvas. The image was taken by MRO's High-Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera, NASA said. Although the image was taken in October 2007, it has been again shared by NASA this week. The US space agency said each of its seven missions currently exploring Mars, including the Perseverance and Curiosity rovers, is "really a NASA Earthling". They act as the eyes of the scientists exploring the Red Planet. These robots also help deepen our appreciation for the Earth, the agency said. https://mobile.twitter.com/NASAMars/status/1517600665945616384?ref_src=twsrc^tfw|twcamp^tweetembed|twterm^1517600665945616384|twgr^|twcon^s1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fgadgets360.com%2Fscience%2Fnews%2Fnasa-mars-reconnaisance-orbiter-earth-moon-image-october-2007-orbit-2918616 Although clouds are the dominant feature in the Earth image, it showed the west coast outline of South America at the lower right. NASA said in a statement that at the time the image was captured the phase angle was 98 degrees, meaning that less than half of the disk of the Earth and the disk of the moon have direct illumination. NASA said the MRO can image Earth and moon at full disk illumination only when they are on the opposite side of the Sun from Mars. But there's one problem: the range would be much greater and the image would have less detail compared to this one. The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter was launched in August 2005 and it was inserted into Mars orbit in March 2006. Its primary objective was to learn more about the Red Planet, including the history of water flows on or near the Martian surface. It has also been a key data relay station for other Mars missions...
