At the same time, Realme 8i is getting early access to Realme UI 3.0 in India. The company will be rolling out the beta software of the new operating system to a select number of users. An official post on the Realme forum details the changelog that comes with the Android 12-based Realme UI 3.0 update for the Realme 8 smartphone. To receive the update, Realme 8 users are told to update their smartphones to the required version RMX3085_11.A.24 or RMX3085_11.A.26. The latest update bears version number RMX3085_11.C.06 and it is being rolled out in a phased manner. In the initial stage, a select number of users will receive the stable update. If the new firmware doesn't have any bugs, a broader rollout will start soon. The company has not mentioned the size of the new update yet. Also, the manual download link will be updated on the website soon. The Realme 8 may take a longer time to boot for the first time after installing the update, says Realme. Also, the system is expected to use more storage which may lead to hanging and faster battery consumption. However, users are advised to leave their Realme 8 smartphones for five hours after the phone is fully charged. Similarly, Realme 8i is receiving early access to Realme UI 3.0 based on Android 12, the company announced in a press note on Wednesday. The beta software of its Realme's latest operating system is rolling out to a select number of users. According to Realme, Realme UI 3.0 will improve the functionality, fluency, customisability, security, and privacy of smartphones. Realme UI 3.0 features Realme UI 3.0 update comes with a new home screen layout with redesigned icons. The company's Quantum Animation Engine 3.0 is claimed to optimise over 300 animations. The update brings Background stream mode that allows users to continue playing the audio of a video even when the phone is locked. Realme UI 3.0 refreshes the always-on display (AOD) experience. It allows users to quickly switch between their Realme Book and Realme Smartphone. Further, Realme renamed the FlexDrop feature as Flexible Windows with the new update. It let users drag a file from My Files or a photo from the Photos app to a floating window. With Quick Launch, the system identifies and preloads apps used frequently by the user. Also, the update carries a chart displaying the battery usage. Realme UI 3.0 also raises the responsiveness of turning on or off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Airplane mode. TalkBack support for more apps including calendar and photos, customisation options on camera, and a new zoom slider to zoom in or out while shooting videos are other new additions. https://gadgets360.com/mobiles/news/realme-8i-ui-3-0-android-12-stable-version-rollout-changelog-india-features-2852750
  3. AI-powered smart copy and paste coming your way, perhaps Windows 11 looks like it could offer some smart new tricks with copying and pasting in the future, including intelligently determining what you’re cutting or copying, then offering to open a relevant app to paste into. Windows Latest uncovered clues pertaining to a Smart Clipboard and Smart Actions after digging around in the latest preview builds of Windows 11 and finding a number of experimental flags for these features. Those flags refer to a ‘Smart Clipboard UX’ and ‘Smart Install App Recommendation’ among other bits of functionality, with Windows Latest theorizing that this Smart Clipboard would have a different keyboard shortcut – and be separate to the current Clipboard – and would allow users to directly transfer rich content straight into apps. As an example, say you copied an email address. In this case, Smart Clipboard would immediately suggest to directly paste this into Outlook (opening the app, and placing the copied address in a blank message). Depending on what you’re cutting or copying, different apps could be recommended as a destination, and the whole system would be powered by AI, meaning that Windows 11 should learn the tasks you commonly perform, and become more accurate with its suggestions as time goes on. Analysis: Revamping even the most basic computing tasks Cutting or copying and pasting is such a basic task, it’s something that’s doubtless pretty much hardwired into your daily computing activities – an action you perform without even thinking about it. And while you wouldn’t imagine there’s much you can do with such a basic piece of functionality, it’s good to see that Microsoft is thinking about innovating in these kinds of spaces – the core nuts-and-bolts of the Windows 11 experience. Machine learning-powered suggested apps for whatever you’re cutting or copying could be a neat addition to make working within Microsoft’s OS that bit more streamlined. And if you don’t want them, then you don’t have to use the new function; at least if it works the way Windows Latest is describing. That said of course, all of this is just speculation based on some nuggets of info hidden away in Windows 11, and we don’t know if Microsoft has any firm plans to develop such a Smart Clipboard. It could remain experimental tweaking that never sees the light of day, for all we know. Or we might just see this Clipboard revamp later this year when the big 22H2 update rolls out, and if that’s the case, the feature should hit testing before too long. https://www.techradar.com/news/upcoming-windows-11-update-could-improve-how-you-copy-and-paste
  4. A sensible spec and plenty of RGB make this a deal worth grabbing. Nvidia may have just released the last card of the Ampere generation with the RTX 3090 Ti, but it's the RTX 3060 that still stands out as one of the best options of this generation. At least it is as far as sensible money is concerned. Sure, the likes of the RTX 3080 and AMD's Radeon RX 6800 XT may be where it's at for 4K gaming, but if you're happy to play at 1080p, then the RTX 3060 is where it's at. This $1,199 machine from ABS from Newegg takes that capable GPU and plays to its strengths while keeping an eye on the overall system price. I'll admit that I'd prefer to find a 12th-gen Intel CPU inside here instead of the 11th-gen Core i5 11400F, but that CPU will still manage to keep the GPU fed when it comes to the vast majority of games, and surely that's all that matters here. This is a 6-core, 12-thread CPU that can still hit 4.4GHz under pressure, which is nothing to turn your nose up at. As with most system builders right now, ABS doesn't specify which particular RTX 3060 model you'll get inside the machine you buy. Don't worry, though; in real terms, there isn't a lot separating any of them, at least not when it comes to raw performance—some are cooler, some are quieter, but when it comes to gaming, there are only a few frames per second in it. The important thing is that the RTX 3060 is a beast when it comes to 1080p gaming, and even 1440p isn't out of the question. ABS Master Gaming PC | Nvidia RTX 3060 | Intel Core i5 11400F | 16GB RAM | 512GB NVMe SSD | $1,399.99 $1,199.99 at Newegg (save $200) The RTX 3060 is the graphics card you want for high-end 1080p gaming, and it'll even turn its hand to 1440p action too. ABS has built around that card sensibly here, ticking all the major spec boxes in the process. The CPU may be last-gen, but it's still plenty powerful, and importantly won't hold the GPU back. You get 16GB of DDR4-3000 and a 512GB NVMe SSD for your money, solid for any gaming machine in 2022. You also get Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth support included, which should see you covered for your networking needs, although there is a gigabit ethernet connection if you'd prefer to stay wired. All this is encased in the Rosewill Spectra D100 chassis, which isn't a bad-looking shell. This system ships with Windows 10, but you can upgrade to Windows 11 for free if you want to see what all the cool kids are using—at least this way you have the option of which OS you use. You also get a keyboard and mouse thrown in with the system as well, which is better than nothing. Overall, this is a decent saving on a solid 1080p gaming rig. The real star of the show here is obviously the RTX 3060, but the rest of the spec is reliable too, and this should serve you well for at least a few years. https://www.pcgamer.com/excel-at-1080p-gaming-with-this-rtx-3060-powered-pc-for-just-dollar1200-right-now/

  6. The scarily po[CENSORED]r online slasher is coming up to eight years old. Dead by Daylight is one of those perennially po[CENSORED]r games that rarely seems to make the news: probably because developer Behaviour Interactive got it more-or-less right and players love the game as it is. Nevertheless it remains constantly active with new DLC and promotions and now, roughly eight years after its initial release, has hit the considerable milestone of 50 million players. The developer announced the news with a short gif that bounces off the double Spider-Man meme. Dead by Daylight is great fun and surprisingly inventive, one of those games all-encompassing enough to become some folks' main poison. There's no shortage of paid DLC expanding its roster either, though the game sensibly allows all players to play alongside any DLC characters and maps, regardless of what they own. The news of 50 million players came alongside the launch of a Kickstarter for a boardgame version of DBD: after only a few days it has already, unsurprisingly, sailed past its initial target of £190,000 and currently sits on just over £263,000. The boardgame is being created by Level 99 Games, a company that's delivered dozens of past kickstarter projects, and is a 3-5 player asymmetrical experience patterned after DBD's core mechanics. So you have a bunch of survivors, who have challenges like turning generators back on, while a killer prowls around and tries to... well, kill them. The below video gives a primer on the boardgame. The boardgame also comes with a tie-in promotion for some currency in the videogame: enter the code DBDTHEBOARDGAME through the in-game store for 200,000 Bloodpoints. It's funny how, since Left4Dead, there have been so many high-profile attempts at making asymmetrical monster-vs-human games the next big hit: it seems like only yesterday Back4Blood was the latest contender. Dead by Daylight wasn't a smash hit out of the gate but has quietly grown and grown over the years, and now looms large over the competition. https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/dead-by-daylight-has-fifty-million-players-and-now-a-boardgame-adaptation/

  10. Taking a tabbed moment A test build of Windows 11 has a rather cool hidden feature which allows tabs to be enabled in File Explorer to have multiple windows in one, similar to a web browser. File Explorer has recently seen its biggest change in appearance by ditching the Ribbon interface for a more simple toolbar layout, alongside a refreshed appearance for its windows and folders. But, managing our workflows on our PCs has become more important than ever. If you've got multiple File Explorer windows open at once, it can be a hassle to manage them, which is why this hidden feature of tabbed windows could go a long way to helping out so many users. However, macOS users have been reaping the benefits of this for years, and it makes us wonder why Microsoft has been late to the pass for tabs in File Explorer. Users in macOS have been able to use tabs in Finder, Apple's File Explorer equivalent, since 2013, with the arrival of 10.9 Mavericks. The process is the same as a web browser; you hold ALT / Command and when you click on a link, a new tab will appear. It's very useful for when you're managing files across multiple folders without having to plaster your display with Finder windows. But in 2022 with Windows 11, this is still occurring, and it finally looks as though Microsoft is listening to this piece of feedback. Tabbed windows can be enabled for users who are on Windows Insider build 22581 and above. If you've not signed up to be a Windows Insider to help test early versions of Windows 11, we're expecting this feature to appear later this year in the upcoming 'Sun Valley 2' update. The feature can be switched on by going to GitHub, downloading ViveTool, opening Command Prompt, and after browsing to where the ViveTool folder is, you have to input this command: vivetool addconfig 35908098 2 After you've restarted your PC, you'll be able to right-click in File Explorer and see a new 'Open in New Tab' command. Once you get this working, you won't want to go back, as we're already finding in Windows 11. It seems as though Microsoft is combing through every avenue of Windows lately, and noting down what may be needed in every app to keep it up to date with Apple, Linux and others. Tabs are going to be a big deal to many in File Explorer, where a display will just have one window with multiple tabs instead. While it's certainly a feature that should have been in Windows years ago, it's great to see it finally arrive, and the days of multiple File Explorer windows could soon be a thing of the past. https://www.techradar.com/news/major-windows-11-update-may-bring-a-welcome-macos-feature-to-file-explorer
  11. Those 600W+ TDP rumours are looking more and more likely. The launch of Nvidia’s next gen Lovelace GPUs draws nearer, and that means it’s leak season! A purported approximation of the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 Founders Edition PCB has hit the web, and it gives us a lot to ponder. The first thing to consider is the VRM phase count. With no less than 24 phases for what is likely a standard Founders Edition card, it’s clear that talk of very high TDPs for high end RTX 40 cards is accurate. The leak comes via Igor’s Lab. The PCB overview indicates that the card includes space for 12 GDDR6X memory chips. This would indicate that the RTX 4090 will include 24GB of VRAM while the RTX 4080 will include 12GB, likely over a 384-bit bus. That’s the same as what’s available now. Igor's Lab believes that the GA102 and next gen AD102 GPUs are pin-to-pin compatible. This means that manufacturers can re-use their current high end designs and that upcoming RTX 3090 Ti PCBs will likely carry over to RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 class cards. The 3090 Ti is also set to introduce the PCIe 5.0 power connector. If we assume the rumoured 450W+ TDP of the 3090 Ti is accurate, then it can be considered something of a test run before the main RTX 40 event. Lovelace GPUs are set to be manufactured on TSMC's 4N fabrication process which is tweaked specifically for Nvidia. Despite the significantly smaller node, those rumours of 600W or even higher TDPs just won’t go away. Bear in mind we’re talking about the enthusiast class cards here, where power consumption is typically secondary to performance. We hope that the mid range and entry level cards will end up a lot more power thrifty. Imagine the hassles system integrators will face if they have to accommodate a 300W entry to mid level GPU. All of this information is subject to change. We’re still many months away from the launch of the RTX 40 Lovelace cards. Nvidia still has time to fine tune the PCB design, clocks and power consumption of the GPU. Whatever final form the Founders Edition card takes, it’s clear the cards will be power hungry and hot. Partner cards will be even more so. Let’s hope they offer the performance to justify it. Before the launch of RTX 40 cards, there’s Intel’s Alchemist cards to come. Though they’re not expected to offer flagship tier performance, if they are priced right, and they have a good level of performance and driver maturity, they could end up very po[CENSORED]r. There’s also the upcoming refresh of AMD’s RX 6000 range. That’s before AMD launches its RTX 40 competing RDNA 3 series of cards later in the year. While 2021 might have been a lost year for PC gamers, the second half of 2022 is looking mighty, especially if the ongoing downward trend in GPU prices continues. https://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-rtx-4080-4090-leaks-point-to-extremely-power-hungry-cards/

  13. Can love bloom on the battlefield? As previously reported, I've become a no-good rotten invader. And in the weeks since I first took up the bloody fingers, I haven't slowed down, defending my underground lair with absolute fury. But lately, my invasions have gotten a little strange—and I'm not talking about those madness-vomiting mech suits. For context, here's how an invasion tends to pan out. You arrive, uninvited, into the world of a pair of strangers (we'll ignore the Taunter's Tongue for now), ready to wreck their entire day. If you're lucky, you might end up baiting them into a dignified, honourable series of 1v1s. If you're unlucky, a Hunter will be summoned in to turn the invasion into a stacked 3v1. Regardless, you arrive with intent to cause violence and violence is what usually results. But it's not always the result. See, Elden Ring's toolbox might include all manner of axes, greatswords and murderous spells, but it also contains far stranger, funner toys that, when deployed carefully, can turn even the most embittered foe into a newfound companion. Invasions are inherently a hostile act, but players have tools to determine the actual nature of an engagement through gestures, prattles, mimic veils and other assorted toys. So sure, while most invasions immediately turn bloody, sometimes I'll be summoned in to find my targets are all disguised as trees. Proper etiquette in a duel is to bow before combat, but there are also gestures for sitting down or dancing. Even beyond gestures, the act of spamming crouch is universal across games as a sign of friendship. In Nokstella, where I frequently hunt, these friendlier invasions were a welcome rarity. I'd guess maybe one in 20 hunts resulted in me and my targets just hanging out—either finding them using Mimic Veils to shimmy about as sentient crates or using my own friendly gestures to encourage pacifism. Then, we'd simply vibe together, and I'd often follow them further down the Ainsel River like a stray cat. I can't help them kill monsters, but it's frequently just a joy to observe how other players explore and interact with the world. On one magical evening, the Hunter summoned to kill me arrived to find us dancing around a glowstone campfire, and joined us in raising our arms in rapture. The next hour can only be described as the closest Elden Ring has ever come to feeling like a rave, dropping multicoloured lights as we danced and screamed and spun under a subterranean night sky. Sellsword Eventually I would leave the depths, and take my hunts to the wide open snowfields of the Mountaintops of the Giants. Here, things only got weirder, and rather than straight-up invasions I'd frequently stumble into pre-made fight clubs, geared up warriors luring multiple hunters in at once for intense 2v2 brawls. These fight clubs have always been a part of the Souls PVP 'endgame', not least because they get around the problem of the host dying and everyone being sent back to their worlds (keep the host out of the fights, and everyone can watch a load of duels). This adopted etiquette means you occasionally see a clueless invader come in and go straight for the host, at which point half-a-dozen players fall on them with force and fury. It was here that I learnt another important aspect of invasions. When a player uses Taunter's Tongue, they can potentially summon two invaders into their world. More importantly, those invaders can attack and kill each other. So when I invaded one world in the middle of a fight between an existing invader and two co-op pals stuck on top of a rock pillar, I decided to have a go at playing mercenary. After fending off the first invader and celebrating with a small dance party atop that pillar, we ventured forth into the snowfields in search of new opponents. When a fresh invader arrived, ready for a 2v2, I'd turn around and tilt the odds in the defender's favour, even if that meant taking great care to avoid hitting my new friends with my sword's absurdly wide swings. Now, you might be asking, what's the point of invading if you're not going to invade? And it's true that in doing this I'm forfeiting the more traditional rewards for invasions, Rune Arcs and a cut of the Runes held by targets I kill. But here's the best bit—after every felled invader, we'd cheer and they'd drop me a reward for my troubles. Rune rewards, in truly ludicrous numbers. By the end of the night I reckon they'd given me a whopping 300,000 in total—that's two entire levels! And y'know what? I reckon we all won. I've written before about the joys of recontextualising gaming battlefields as hang-out spots. Elden Ring isn't quite as saccharine as Splatoon 2, but it still offers all the tools you need to push against the violent framework of invasions, to communicate a far friendlier intent. Elden Ring, like Dark Souls before it, is a game about overcoming great difficulty. But both you and your target have faced overwhelming odds to get this far, and who's to say there's anything wrong with turning an enemy into an ally—if only for a moment? https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/elden-rings-invasions-have-me-turning-foes-into-friends/

  15. Chrome is hitting a century In the mid-2000s, Google was known for announcing joke software for April Fools Day that we all knew wouldn't ever be made. So, when its new web browser, Google Chrome first arrived in September 2008, users had thought that the company had delayed the joke by a few months. However, since its arrival, Chrome has seen many changes and revamps, to the point where it's the most-used web browser in the world. It's now also been made available on smartphones and tablets, further changing how we browse the web. Google is now about to launch version 100, and as it's close to April 1, we wouldn't be surprised if there's a major new feature or two coming to the update, perhaps as a hint to its April Fool gags of yore, or to tie in with Google Mail's launch, which actually launched on April 1 2004. With this in mind, we tracked down version 1.0 of Google Chrome and tried it in Windows 11 to see how it handles modern websites... or if it is even usable. Using Google Chrome 1.0 in 2022 The internet of 2008 was very different compared to what we use in 2022. It was a year when Apple's App Store launched alongside the iPhone 3G, and we were all still trying to get used to browsing the web on our smartphones. Trying to play a 4K video on YouTube back then would have been an impossible task, and streaming Banjo Kazooie on Game Pass through Chrome would have been as likely as seeing Mario come to the Steam Deck in a sequel to Half Life. After finding version 1.0.154 of Chrome, released on December 11 2008, we installed it and saw the familiar layout of the web browser, but in a shade of light blue that seemed to be a constant presence in these early versions. Tabs were still relatively new at the time, with Mozilla's Firefox, and Apple's Safari having had the feature for only a few years at the time. But, it defined Chrome, encouraging you to press the '+' button to open multiple tabs for the sites you wanted to visit. But this is where the troubles began for us. As the above screenshots show, loading up our Apple Studio review brought up the text, but it was the only aspect we could decipher. Chrome 1.0 couldn't render the photos or any sections correctly. Some would load up, but they would be stretched to the point that they would be pixelated. We thought we'd go to YouTube to see how this would fare, and not only did it show the mobile version, but nothing was displaying correctly anyway; only YouTube's logo. There were other times when we would visit other sites, and we would receive a pop-up saying 'You're using an old version, please upgrade your browser.' Ignoring this would try to display the website in question regardless, but none of them worked. Ironically, searching for trees in Google was the one website that did show correctly, albeit in its mobile version. Looking around Chrome 1.0.154's features, it's as barebones as you would expect for a web browser that was officially two months old at the time. There's a Preferences section, but nothing in the way of themes and web extensions that today's web browsers offer. The idea of doing some work in this version of Chrome through Google Docs or Apple's Pages is impossible - this was an era of the internet where you'd be browsing the web to be rid of boredom or to find the answer to something. While it was a short-lived trip using one of the first versions of Google Chrome, it's at least showed us how far Chrome - and the internet itself - has come. In 2022, playing Sea of Thieves or watching the upcoming Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi in 4K, is seen as a normal task in Chrome. After 100 versions and almost 14 years of Chrome, it only makes us wonder as to what version 200 could bring, and the devices we'll be browsing the web on then. https://www.techradar.com/news/google-chrome-is-about-to-hit-version-100-so-we-use-version-1-in-windows-11

  18. Dang indeed. Players of po[CENSORED]r social-deception-in-space game Among Us began having difficulty connecting to its servers on March 24, after which developers Innersloth had to take servers offline to deal with the problem, which is apparently the result of a DDoS attack. Or, as the charmingly informal Among Us Twitter account put it, "we have a sabotage going on lol". Servers in North America and Europe have been taken offline while Innersloth works on fixing the issue. A follow-up tweet explained that "they may come on/off but will update u when we think they're stable, sorry!!!" This isn't the first time someone has targeted Among Us. Back in 2020, a hack filled its lobbies with bots who repeatedly spammed messages, after which players would be despawned and left in a black room before being disconnected. The messages being spammed tried to convince players to subscribe to the hacker's YouTube channel "or else we will kill your device", after which they signed off with "Trump 2020". Among Us first released in 2018, but became an unexpected hit in 2020 thanks to a combination of lockdown-induced desperation for something to do with friends online, and going viral on Twitch. Here's the full story on how Among Us became so po[CENSORED]r.
