Just two weeks after its last hardware launch, Amazfit has revealed yet another pair of smartwatches: the Amazfit GTS 2e and GTR 2e. As their names suggest, these new devices are very similar to this year's GTS 2 and GTR 2, but with some key differences. The new watches make an interesting trade-off, losing the Wi-Fi connectivity of their older counterparts, but keeping the same battery capacity .This means they can last far longer between charges; both watches can now keep going for 24 days before running dry, rather then the original 14 days. The flip side is that you'll need to keep them within Bluetooth distance of your phone in order to use their full features. We've rounded up the best fitness trackers you can buy today Find your perfect GPS device with our guide to the best running watches We've also rounded up this year's best running headphones Perhaps even more interesting, as Wareable reports, is the addition of a new skin temperature sensor, like that found in the Fitbit Sense. This can't be used to take core temperature or give you a spot reading if you suspect you have a fever, but can show you relative changes in temperature over the course of several nights, which can be an indication that you're starting to become ill. Health tracking for all As with the original GTS 2 and GTR 2, the main difference between the GTS 2e and GTR 2e is the shape of their faces: the former is square, while the latter is round. They also come in a different selection of colors: the GTR 2e comes in black, light gray and mint green, while the GTS 2e comes in black, forest green and light pink. The new watches are priced at CNY799 (about $120 / £90 / AU$160), which is slightly cheaper than the original GTS 2 and GTR 2. There's no word yet on whether they'll be released outside China, but if they are, they'll make skin temperature tech accessible to people whose budgets wouldn't stretch to the $330 / £300 / AU$500 Fitbit Sense, helping more people get an insight into their health.

The 27-inch 1440p (aka QHD) 144 Hz category is red hot for those seeking the best gaming monitors right now with 57 choices available at one online retailer alone. It’s no wonder, because there is no better way to maximize performance for an affordable low price. Things like Adaptive-Sync and extended color have become commodities too and those features are a minimum for manufacturers that want to compete in this genre. With both flat and curved panels selling for under $300, the choice comes down to small differences in performance. We’re looking for high contrast, reliable video processing and solid build quality. AOC’s CQ27G2 appears to meet those expectations with a 27-inch QHD/VA panel, gently curved to a 1500mm radius. It features 144 Hz, Adaptive-Sync, extended color and excellent contrast. Contrast is always our top consideration when reviewing monitors and any display with a VA panel already has an advantage. You can expect at least double the dynamic range of an IPS or TN screen and sometimes even triple, like the AOC CQ27G2. Though it doesn’t include HDR, it delivers a very high contrast ratio over 3600:1 right out of the box. It is a bit less bright than most of its competition at a rated 250 nits but its killer black levels more than make up for that. The image is further enhanced by extended color. By our measurements, the CQ27G2 covers almost 83% of the DCI-P3 gamut. That’s not as much as some others but it is enough to make a visible impact. And color purists will rejoice in its accurate and usable sRGB mode. Precision is not a problem here as we found it qualified for our calibration-not-required list.

CD Projekt's terrible, horrible, no good, very bad month continues The saga of Cyberpunk 2077 continues to move in new and unexpected directions as Sony has announced it is pulling the game from the PlayStation Store and will begin issuing refunds to people who purchased a copy directly from Sony. The announcement comes days after developer CD Projekt Red said it would offer refunds on PS4 and Xbox One without any clear direction on how unsatisfied buyers were supposed to go about getting their money back. Sony originally told people looking for a refund to wait for a future patch but has now reversed course and is offering refunds to those who purchased the game through the PlayStation Store. Anyone interested in getting their money back can visit the Cyberpunk 2077 Refunds page and fill out the request form. While the game is no longer available on the PlayStation Store, anyone who bought it and wants to keep will still be able to access their purchase. [Update: Since this post went live, the link to the refund request form has been removed from the Cyberpunk 2077 Refunds page. If you are interested in a refund, I suggest you contact the @AskPlayStation Twitter account as it seems to be assisting people.] I don't think I can name a quicker fall from grace than what CD Projekt has done this week, but I hope this will serve as a wake-up call to the industry and to consumers that this type of behavior shouldn't be tolerated, excused, or brushed off anymore.

Double vision, also known as diplopia, refers to seeing two images of a single object. All the parts of your eye, from the pupil to the optic nerve, work together to help you see. The process involved is complex and extremely critical; any problem with any of the parts can hamper the process of image formation leading to problems such as double vision. Double vision can be vertical, horizontal or a combination of both, depending on which direction the second image is displayed in. It is usually a symptom of an underlying condition and can be treated after identifying the cause. Following are some possible causes of double vision: 1. Defect in the eye muscles There are six muscles in the eye socket that control eye movements. They help move the eyeball up, down and rotate. Conditions that weaken or paralyse these ocular muscles can lead to double vision. Conditions like strabismus (cross eyes) or amblyopia (lazy eyes), where the muscles of the eyes are weak or paralysed could disrupt the alignment required for perfect vision. Also, Grave’s disease, an autoimmune disease of the thyroid, affects the muscles of the eye and could lead to double vision. 2. Defects in the nerves that regulate vision Certain cranial nerves such as the optic nerve help send visual information from the retina to the vision centers of the brain to form an image. However, some conditions that affect the nerves may also cause double vision. Multiple sclerosis is a potentially disabling condition where the brain and nervous system are affected. The immune system attacks the nerves to wear off their protective sheath. This affects the nerves that control vision and could cause double vision. Guillain-Barre syndrome is a rare autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks the nervous system. This condition also affects the nerves of the eyes and may lead to double vision. Diabetes is a chronic metabolic condition that, if not controlled, can damage the nerves in the eyes and eventually cause double vision. 3. Defect in the eye lens The lens of the eye is situated beyond the pupil and refracts the incoming light on to the retina to form an image. The lens has to be clear and transparent to perform its function. Cataracts are a very common condition that affects the lens. In this condition, the lens becomes cloudy, making it difficult for the affected eye lens to help you see clearly. This could lead to double vision. 4. Defect in the cornea The cornea is the transparent and smooth covering that covers the front portion of the eye. The main function of the cornea is to focus the incoming light onto the retina, like the lens. Any damage or distortion in the cornea can lead to double vision. Some of the conditions that can affect the shape of or damage the cornea are: Dryness of the eyes due to prolonged digital-screen use Astigmatism (abnormal [CENSORED]ture of the cornea) Keratoconus (thin, cone-shaped cornea) Scars caused by infection or injury Shingles or herpes infection in the eye 5. Defect in the retina The retina is present just behind the eye and sends signals to the brain to form an image. However, in macular degeneration, the retina gets affected and the center of the field of vision slowly degenerates, leading to double vision in one eye. 6. Defect in the brain The visual cortex of the brain controls vision. It transcripts the visual information to form an image of what we see. This complex process can be affected by any injury or disease of the brain, leading to double vision. Some brain conditions that can cause double vision are: Stroke Brain aneurysm (swelling of a blood vessel) or brain tumour Brain haemorrhage (internal bleeding) Migraine headaches

US officials have warned that a sophisticated hacking campaign uncovered this week poses a "grave risk" to the government, critical infrastructure and the private sector. The US Treasury and commerce departments were among those attacked. The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (Cisa) said thwarting the attack would be "highly complex and challenging". Many suspect the Russian government is responsible. It has denied the claims. In a statement on Thursday, Cisa said government agencies, critical infrastructure entities and private sector organisations had been targeted by what it called an "advanced persistent threat actor", beginning in at least March 2020. The actor behind the hacks "demonstrated patience, operational security, and complex tradecraft in these intrusions", it said. SolarWinds: Why the Sunburst hack matters More US government agencies hacked Cisa did not identify who was behind the attack; which agencies and organisations had been breached; or what information had been stolen or exposed. Meanwhile, US President-elect Joe Biden said he would make cyber-security a "top priority" of his administration. "We need to disrupt and deter our adversaries from undertaking significant cyber-attacks in the first place," he said. "We will do that by, among other things, imposing substantial costs on those responsible for such malicious attacks, including in coordination with our allies and partners." What's the background? Several US government agencies are reported to have been attacked in the hacking campaign, which has been described as "significant and ongoing." Hackers are known to have at least monitored data within US departments including state, defence, homeland security, treasury and commerce, Reuters news agency reports. The Energy Department and National Nuclear Security Administration also have evidence that hackers accessed their networks, Politico magazine reported, citing officials familiar with the matter. Cisa said the perpetrators managed to breach computer networks using network management software made by the Texas-based IT company SolarWinds. Up to 18,000 SolarWinds Orion customers downloaded updates containing a back door that let hackers in. All US federal civilian agencies were told to remove SolarWinds from their servers earlier this week as a result of the hack. In its statement on Thursday, Cisa said it was investigating "evidence of additional access vectors, other than the SolarWinds Orion platform". Tech giant Microsoft said it had identified more than 40 of its customers who were targeted in the cyber-attack, including government agencies, think tanks, non-governmental organisations and IT companies. About 80% of these were in the US, while others were in Canada, Mexico, Belgium, Spain, the UK, Israel and the UAE. The company's president Brad Smith said the attack was "remarkable for its scope, sophistication and impact". It "unfortunately represents a broad and successful espionage-based assault on both the confidential information of the US government and the tech tools used by firms to protect them," he wrote in a blog post. Cisa and the FBI have not publicly said who they believe to be behind the attacks, but private security companies and officials quoted in US media have pointed the finger at Russia. In a statement shared on social media on Monday, the Russian embassy in the US said it "does not conduct offensive operations in the cyber domain".

What is it? Is this it? This could be it. The end. This is the 2020 Nissan GT-R Nismo, announced in the middle of 2019 and available to us just in time for 2021, and with it, it could be that the R35-generation GT-R will reach the end of the development line. Maybe. So far, age hasn’t stopped Nissan developing the GT-R. But if you’re thinking that the relative gains must be getting smaller and smaller by now, then I think you’d probably be right. But gains there are, and engineers there must be, looking for them, constantly tweaking and evolving everything there is to have from this brutalist sports car even 13 years after they started making it. The first iteration of this more hardcore Nismo variant arrived in 2015. Nissan then made a series of annual changes to the regular GT-R, some of which filtered back up to the Nismo later as part of a round of upgrades in 2017, but this is the proper follow-up. The important thing is that, on the face of it, it’s still a big 2+2 coupé with a four-wheel-drive powertrain and complex mechanicals. But here come some technical highlights over the previous Nismo. They are quite niche. There is one less groove on the Dunlop front tyres – increasing the amount of rubber on the road by 11% – while a new rubber compound is said to be 7% more grippy. The tyre shoulder is more rounded to keep more tyre in contact with the road and, overall, ‘tyre cornering force’ is up by 5%. The 3.8-litre hand-assembled twin-turbo V6 engine has new turbochargers, as before taken from the GT3 race car variant, but the race items have clearly been improved lately and so have these. They employ 10 vanes apiece, one less than the previous model’s, and each vane is 0.3mm thinner. If you open the throttle at 68mph in fourth gear (in manual mode), it says here that this 14.5% reduction in mass and 24% reduction in inertia mean engine response is improved by 20%. For all the extra apparent response, power remains unchanged at 592bhp. But it has less weight to push around, too, thanks in some part to increased use of carbonfibre. New front and rear bumper and wing designs are 4.5kg lighter than the previous Nismo’s and a new roof saves 4kg and bonnet 2kg. Then there are lighter wheels (although only by 25g each) and, more significantly, the adoption of carbon-ceramic brakes, of 410mm diameter at the front, between them weighing 16.2kg less than the previous items. Overall, then, the new Nismo is around 27kg lighter than it was, although that still leaves its kerb weight at 1703kg. It never was a light car and it isn’t going to start now. The dampers have been softened, though, to account for this modest decrease in mass, by some 20% in rebound and 5% in compression, with revised spring rates, too, while the power steering map has been adjusted.

Intel is taking Optane to the next level with its SSD P5800X, which it bills as the fastest SSD in the world. The next-gen Optane SSD leverages the PCIe 4.0 interface, second-gen Optane media, and a new SSD controller to deliver truly astounding performance and endurance specifications. Compared to the first-gen Optane DC P4800X, Intel says the 5800X offers an impressive 3X performance improvement in random read/write workloads, peaking at 1.5 million 4K random IOPS, and 3X more sequential performance at a peak of 7.2 GB/s. The drive also delivers up to 4.6 million IOPS in random 512B workloads (useful for certain types of caching workloads) and up to 1.8 million IOPS in mixed workloads. Additionally, the drive offers up to 67% more write endurance than the first-gen P4800X, and now peaks at a staggering 100 drive writes per day (DWPD). That also makes it the most endurant SSD on the market. For perspective, there are very few 'regular' NAND-based SSDs that offer even 10DWPD of endurance, meaning the P5800X is truly in a class of its own. Just like any other Optane-powered drive, the exotic underlying 3D XPoint technology provides far more speed and endurance than any NAND-based SSD, delivering a level of performance that lands between flash SSDs and system memory. The drives are also designed to offer a superior quality of service (QoS) over competing NAND-based SSDs, meaning performance consistency is a key focus area. Intel's first-gen P4800X had already established itself as the most consistent SSD on the market, but Intel says the P5800X extends that with up to a 40% better QoS in 4K random read workloads. The drive leverages Intel's second-gen Optane media, which comes with two decks/layers instead of one, and a new PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD controller that allows the company to finally break the shackles of the PCIe 3.0 interface. Intel isn't sharing the finer-grained technical specifications behind the P5800X's new PCIe 4.0 SSD controller. Still, we know that the drives will come in the tried-and-true U.2 form factor in capacities of 400GB, 800GB, 1.6TB, and 3.2TB, marking a healthy capacity increase that is more than twice the storage of the previous-gen DC P4800X. Perhaps one of the most valuable aspects of an Optane SSD is its ability to deliver tremendously consistent performance even while it is under heavy load. As outlined in the slide above, the P5800X reaches new heights with more than 8 GB/s of throughput while under heavy load, easily outclassing all NAND-based SSDs on this logarithmic scale and also notching a substantial lead over its previous-gen counterpart. Intel claims the drive can deliver less than 66us of 99.999th percentile latency, which is a massive step forward over the first-gen DC P4800X, not to mention standard SSDs. The Optane Memory P5800X can even outstrip what we typically classify as the throughput limit of the PCIe 4.0 bus. That comes as a byproduct of the drive's ability to leverage PCIe's bi-directional interface. By saturating both sides of the interface at full line-rate read and write performance, the drive delivers even higher performance during mixed workloads. We can see that ability in the 70/30 read/write workload outlined above where the SSD peaked at 2 million IOPS. This allows the drive to deliver 3.7x more performance than the previous-gen model in mixed random workloads. Intel hasn't released pricing information yet, but the company says the drives are already shipping to OEM companies. Naturally, as a standards-based NVMe block-addressable device, these SSDs will also be compatible with AMD's EPYC processors. On the other end of the performance spectrum, Intel also announced new QLC SSDs today, along with its plans to debut 5-bit-per-cell PLC flash, a first, in the near future. You can read about that here.

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Singapore’s tradition of communal dining at hawker centres, open air food courts po[CENSORED]rised by celebrity chefs and hit films such as ‘Crazy Rich Asians’, has been recognised by UNESCO for its cultural significance. The United Nations’ cultural agency announced late Wednesday it had added the city-state’s “hawker culture” to its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, nearly two years after Singapore submitted a bid to be included in the list. Singapore’s hawker centres were set up to house former street vendors, or “hawkers” in an effort to clean up the island in the 1970s and serve a variety of cheap, no-frills dishes to locals as well as providing a social setting. “These centres serve as ‘community dining rooms’ where people from diverse backgrounds gather and share the experience of dining over breakfast, lunch and dinner,” UNESCO said. Celebrity chefs including Anthony Bourdain and Gordon Ramsay have effused over favourite hawker centre dishes such as chicken rice. The 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians showed its stars tucking into heaped plates at a famous night market, and some stalls even gained Michelin stars for meals costing only a few dollars. However, Singapore’s hawker culture does face its challenges. The median age of hawkers in the city-state is 60, and younger Singaporeans are increasingly shunning cramped, sweaty kitchens for office jobs. The COVID-19 pandemic also dealt a blow, halting the usual train of tourists to the centres, while even locals were prevented from dining out for a few months during a lockdown earlier this year. Singapore must submit a report every six years to UNESCO, showing the efforts made to safeguarding and promoting its hawker culture.

It might rank as the understatement of the decade to say that when the DB11 was launched in 2016, it was a fairly important car for Aston Martin. Never a company to prosper with quite the financial success you’d imagine a maker of such desirable and expensive sports cars might do, the DB11 arrived at what could be called a make or break time for the British firm. Luckily the car was liked by the press, the public and the people who bought it, so the work Aston had put in was certainly justified. It sat on a brand-new platform, for one, and it borrowed a lot of technology from Aston’s partner, Mercedes. The DB11 is made mostly from aluminium, too, which is light, except where it’s made of magnesium, which is even lighter, and on top of that a lot of work went into making its graceful and arresting shape aerodynamic, so it not only looks like a million dollars but also goes like it. Under that voluptuous bonnet was an initial choice of either a twinturbo 4.0-litre V8 or a 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12. Some buyers felt a proper GT Aston should always have a V12, but they were in the minority and the engine was discontinued last year. Although it turns out that Aston didn’t really discontinue the DB11 V12 after all, it simply rebranded it as the DB11 AMR (for ‘Aston Martin Racing’). Those seeking some wind-inthe-hair action might look to the convertible Volante version, which, if anything, looks even more divine than the closed-top coupé. Volante buyers will have to make do with just the V8 option, and inevitably 110kg of extra weight, but one look at this beautiful machine should be enough to convince most people to overlook such trivialities. It’s fair to say the DB11 marked a return to form for Aston. All the engine choices sound glorious and respond to the pedal with alacrity. The V8 is the most entertaining, which is odd, it being the cheaper version, but it’s fast and it’s fun to drive. That’s because it’s lighter than the V12, and lightness is a good thing when it comes to steering and handling. Inside, the driving position is spot on. There’s plenty of adjustability in the seat and steering wheel, although visibility is limited by those stylish thick pillars. Fit and finish retains the best bits from Aston Martins of old, however, with soft, hand-stitched leather sitting side by side with wood or carbonfibre trim highlights. And all those bits that look like metal in the interior really are metal, including the air vents. Space up front is fine, but as you might expect, given the rakish profile, the rear seats are best reserved for tiny children or suitcases. Speaking of which, the boot is a little on the small side, although you can squeeze in a couple of overnight bags. Earliest DB11s start at around £83,000 from independent dealers. Pay between £85,000 and £100,000 for a 2017 or 2018 car from a franchised dealer, and £100k-plus for a 2019 or 2020 car, more for an AMR version. The V12 manages 21.1mpg (WLTP combined), with 265g/km CO2 emissions. The V8 records 24.8mpg and 230g/km. VED is CO2 -based for cars registered before April 2017; those registered after pay a flat rate, currently £150 a year, followed by a supplementary luxury car tax of, currently, £325 a year. There have been a few reports of cars having starting trouble. Owners also report issues with the electrics, especially the sat-nav and air-con. Build quality is good. Our pick DB11 V8: Less is more with the DB11. This V8 version is lighter, more agile and more fun to drive than the heavyweight V12. It’s even a teeny bit cheaper to run, too. Wild card DB11 AMR: It lacks the V8’s deftness, but what an engine. AMR version gains 30bhp over the old V12 and a tweaked chassis means it handles brilliantly. Expensive, mind. Ones we found 2016 DB11 V8, 18,000 miles, £82,995 2017 DB11 V12, 24,000 miles, £90,995 2019 DB11 V8, 9000 miles, £105,000 2020 DB11 AMR, 3000 miles, £124,000

A powerful snowstorm is sweeping through the north-east US, with warnings in place for 14 states affecting more than 60 million people. Some parts of Pennsylvania and New York are predicted to see as much as two feet (60cm) of snow. The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned of "dangerous, if not impossible travel conditions and isolated power surges" in the worst affected areas. Two people died in a crash involving dozens of cars in central Pennsylvania. Officials say they do not expect the storm to disrupt Covid-19 vaccine distribution, which began in the US on Monday. However, there were reports of some coronavirus testing centres in several states being temporarily closed. Forecasters said the storm could dump up to two feet of snow in an area stretching from eastern Pennsylvania to New York's Catskill Mountains, with a foot or more in the rest of the north-east. Some areas will see more snow "in one event than they have seen all of last winter", the NWS warned. Parts of Centre County in Pennsylvania were hit with up to 33cm of snow by Wednesday night, according to the NWS. Police in Pennsylvania said a pile-up left two people dead on the Interstate 80 in Clinton County. Multiple people were also injured in the crash which involved between 30-60 vehicles. Six people were also hurt in a separate multi-car collision in New York City, involving 27 vehicles. In New York, Mayor Bill de Blasio warned that the storm could be the biggest the city has seen in several years, warning residents to "take this seriously". Schools across the city have moved to online learning, outdoor dining has been suspended and ferry routes in the city have stopped. Japan sees record snowfall When will I get a Covid vaccine in US? Hundreds of flights have been cancelled and rail services suspended across the north-east. US Secretary for Transportation Elaine Chao warned those in the path of the storm "to know that's expected for your area and don't drive in dangerous conditions". Coronavirus testing sites in a number of states including New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Maryland have closed, CBS News reports. Officials say they are monitoring any potential impact of the storm on the delivery of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine to hospitals. "We're following all of that," Health Secretary Alex Azar said. "We have prepositioned Centres for Disease Control and Prevention people at each place receiving people. This is FedEx, this is UPS express shipping - they know how to deal with snow and bad weather, but we are on it and following it." New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy warned residents to wear a mask if they helped their neighbours shovel snow. Bob Oravec, a Weather Service meteorologist told the New York Times: "The snowstorm is going to have a huge impact on travel. It will be an issue, but it is not going to be an event that is too long lasting."
