A related suggestion is that Adele's sad music can be a friend to us. It can act as a social surrogate. Sad music can be experienced as an imaginary friend who provides support and empathy after loss. Adele’s new album, 30, is finally available. Last month, hundreds of millions of us streamed its first single, Easy On Me. This song evokes feelings not easily put into words. But we can probably agree it is a sad song. It isn’t obvious that we should like sad music. Sadness is usually a feeling we try to avoid. An alien might expect us to find such music depressing and dislikable. ALSO READ |Adele goes live on Instagram, talks about her favourite food, reading and much more Yet, sad music pulls us in and lifts us up. So, why does hearing sad music feel so good? The biology of sad music Let’s start with biological theories. When we experience real-life loss, or empathise with another’s pain, hormones such as prolactin and oxytocin are released within us. These help us cope with loss and pain. They do so by making us feel calmed, consoled, and supported. Feeling Adele’s pain, or recalling our own, may cause such chemical changes within us. Clicking on Adele’s song may be like clicking on our own metaphorical morphine drip. The jury is still out on this theory. One study found no evidence that sad music increases prolactin levels. Yet, other studies have hinted at a role for prolactin and oxytocin in making sad music feel good. The psychology of sad music A key reason we enjoy sad songs is because they profoundly “move” us. This experience is sometimes called kama muta, a Sanskrit term meaning “moved by love”. Feeling moved can involve chills, goosebumps, a flood of emotions (including romantic ones), a warmth in our chest, and elation. But why do we feel moved? The American writer James Baldwin got at this when he reflected: “The things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, who had ever been alive.” Similarly, feeling moved can come from us suddenly feeling closer to other people. ALSO READ |Adele, dressed for power This may explain why the people most likely to feel moved by sad music are those high in empathy. Indeed, when we have listened to 30 we may turn to reaction videos to see how others feel. This lets us share an emotional experience with others. A sense of communal sharing boosts our feeling of being moved and triggers feelings of comfort and belonging. A related suggestion is that Adele’s sad music can be a friend to us. It can act as a social surrogate. Sad music can be experienced as an imaginary friend who provides Feeling moved can also result from memories being triggered of important moments of our lives. Adele’s songs are powerfully nostalgic. It may be nostalgia, rather than sadness, that we enjoy. Indeed, when people listen to sad music, only around 25% say they actually feel sad. The remainder experience other, often related emotions, most commonly nostalgia. This feeling of nostalgia can help increase our sense of social connectedness, mitigate feelings of meaningless, and reduce anxiety. A completely different type of psychological theory is that Adele’s songs are emotional gyms. They give us a safe, controlled space in which we can explore simulated sadness. They are the emotional equivalent of Neo sparring with Morpheus in the Matrix movie. ALSO READ |Adele opens up about weight loss and objectification of her body ‘by other women’ Simulated sadness lets us experiment with and learn from this emotion. We can enhance our empathy, learn to better see things from other people’s perspectives, and try out various responses to sadness. This may make us better prepared for when real loss strikes. Such learning experiences may have evolved to be pleasurable to encourage their use. Making sense of sadness Alternatively, it could be that Adele’s songs aren’t pleasurable because they are sad or nostalgic. They may be pleasurable simply because they are beautiful. Sadness might just happen to coincide with beauty. Indeed, seeing acts of moral virtue or beauty have been suggested to provoke feelings of elevation and can touch, move and inspire us. We can also think at the cultural level. Here we can view the pleasure Adele’s songs gives us in terms of the meaning she helps us make. Adele takes hard life experiences and helps makes sense of them. support and empathy after loss. link : https://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/life-style/adele-30-the-psychology-of-why-sad-songs-make-us-feel-good-7633829/

Wisconsin officials will seek to charge a driver who ploughed into a Christmas parade on Sunday with five counts of intentional homicide. Police said Darrell Edward Brooks Jr, 39, killed five people, aged between 52 and 81, and injured 48 others, including young children, in Waukesha. Mr Brooks was fleeing a domestic disturbance when he mowed into the crowd, they said. They added he could face further charges based upon their investigation. Waukesha police also said the incident was not an act of terrorism. Several school children and grandparents were among the victims. Warning: This article contains upsetting content. What do we know about the victims? The victims named on Monday were: Mr Wilhelm Hospel, 81 Ms Virginia Sorenson, 79 Ms LeAnna Owen, 71 Ms Tamara Durand, 52 Ms Jane Kulich, 52 They include members of the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies, who are a regular fixture in the city's parades. "Our group was doing what they loved, performing in front of crowds in a parade putting smiles on faces of all ages," the group wrote in a statement on Facebook. "Those who died were extremely passionate Grannies." Waukesha Christmas Parade: Who were the victims? Dozens of people remain in hospital. Police said the injured were taken to six area hospitals by first responders as well as other residents who were at the parade. Eighteen children were admitted after the incident, the Children's Wisconsin paediatric hospital told reporters on Monday. Care providers described the incident as one of the state's largest mass casualty events involving children in recent history. Physicians said some children sustained serious head injuries and broken bones. The injured range in age from three to 16 and include three sets of siblings, medical staff said. Ten children required treatment in the intensive care unit. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee said one of its priests, multiple parishioners and students at a local Catholic school were also among the injured. What do we know about the suspect? "A lone subject intentionally drove his maroon SUV through barricades and into a crowd of people that was celebrating the Waukesha Christmas parade," city police chief Dan Thompson told reporters at a news conference on Monday. He added that an officer had fired shots at the vehicle, but had to stop due to the number of people on the street. Police said they were responding to a domestic incident involving Mr Brooks when he fled the scene and mowed through the parade crowd. Earlier media reports suggested he was escaping a knife fight, but police have not confirmed those details. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel newspaper reported Mr Brooks is currently facing at least five other criminal charges - including for domestic abuse and battery - and had been released from jail on bond just two days earlier. BBC News has also reviewed the records belonging to the suspect. In a statement on Monday, Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm, a Democrat, said the bail recommendation in Mr Brooks' open court case was "inappropriately low in light of the nature of recent charges and the pending charges" against him. Mr Brooks is from the city of Milwaukee, about 24 km (15 miles) east of Waukesha. What have eyewitnesses said? The parade in Waukesha - a community of about 72,000 located to the west of Milwaukee - is traditionally held every year on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and includes fancy dress, floats, dancers and marching bands. This year's theme was "comfort and joy". Families lined the sides of the road to watch the event, which was returning after a year's absence due to the coronavirus pandemic. Local resident Angelito Tenorio told the Journal Sentinel he had just finished marching in the parade when the SUV "put the pedal to the metal and just [started] zooming full speed along the parade route" at about 16:40 (22:40 GMT) on Sunday. "Then we heard a loud bang, and just deafening cries and screams from people who are struck by the vehicle," he said. Corey Montiho, whose daughter's dance team was hit by the SUV, told the paper: "There were pom-poms and shoes and spilled hot chocolate everywhere. I had to go from one crumpled body to the other to find my daughter." Sarah Saldivar, who was at the parade with her two young children, told CBS News she saw "a red blur" and then saw "little girls flying through the air". One video shared on social media shows the car crashing at high speed through street barriers, while another shows the vehicle driving into what looks like a group of musicians. Police officers ran down the street during the incident, telling people to take shelter in shops. What's the reaction? Mayor Shawn Reilly described the incident as a "horrible, senseless tragedy". "I am deeply saddened to know that so many in our community went to a parade but ended up dealing with injury and heartache," he said. President Joe Biden said he was praying for the community and "monitoring the situation very closely". Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff across the state in honour of the victims. Waukesha's public schools were closed on Monday, and counselling services were made available to those affected. A community fund has been created to help victims of the incident. link : https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-59378571

Pocket-lint) - Android tablet fans have been eagerly anticipating the new Galaxy Tab S lineup from Samsung. Word on the street is that Samsung plans to launch three high end tablets in early 2022 - the Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tab S8+ and the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. This will be the first time Samsung offers an Ultra model for its Android tablet series. The Ultra, as the name suggests, being its flagship model. Thanks to renders released by 91mobiles and @OnLeaks, we've been treated to a glimpse of what the S8 Ultra might look like. While at first glance it may look like most other tablets, closer inspection shows that the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra will likely be sporting a camera notch. The notch is positioned at the top of the screen when used in landscape mode, and will allow the tablet to have much thinner bezels on its huge 14.6-inch display, squeezing every millimeter out of the tablet's form factor. Comparatively, the Tab S8 will feature an 11-inch screen, and 12.4-inches on the Tab S8+, unofficial renders show no notch on either of these models. The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra renders show dual rear cameras, four speakers and a USB Type-C port, as well as a magnetic strip for the S Pen. There's a distinct lack of headphone jack though, which some users might find disappointing. The overall dimensions are reported to be 325.8 mm x 207.9 mm x 5.4 mm (12.8 inches x 8.2 inches x 0.2 inches). With the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, it seems clear that Samsung is taking aim at Apple's iPad Pro series, but with Apple's offering only measuring 12.9 inches, Samsung is betting bigger is better when it comes to tablets. link : https://www.pocket-lint.com/tablets/news/samsung/158851-samsung-galaxy-tab-s8-ultra-renders-show-notched-display

Apple’s Mac app strategy has become more confusing than ever as the company revives its computer hardware line. Also: The car project goes full-throttle, Apple will let consumers repair their own devices, and the company sets its return-to-office deadline. I’ve been using a new MacBook Pro with an M1 Max chip since its release last month, and it has certainly been worth the wait. Prior to this laptop, I had been using its 16-inch predecessor from 2019. From the beginning, that “Pro” computer really couldn’t handle simple everyday tasks like simultaneously having dozens of web tabs open at once, communicating on Slack and Messages, watching video, and scrolling through Twitter. The experience on that previous Mac, which had an Intel Corp. chip, was so subpar that I often switched to an iPad. This was the ultimate First World problem, of course, but it was surprising how slow and loud the Intel 16-inch MacBook Pro was during two years of ownership. My experience so far with the new MacBook Pro couldn’t be more different. The new chip powers through everything I need to do daily. The fans also don’t run as loud as a 747 airplane (I haven’t heard them once), and I don’t need to worry about the machine heating up my legs. So, the hardware is great. But there remains one key Mac problem that I hope the company will address next: its app ecosystem. Apple has made strides with the Mac App Store in recent years, and it’s no longer the ghost town it once was. But it’s also become a bit of a muddle. Apple and third parties now offer several different ways to make Mac apps, creating confusion in the developer community and sometimes for consumers. In addition, Apple’s cross-platform app development strategy—which lets developers optimize their iPad apps for the Mac or run iPhone apps unmodified on the desktop—hasn’t taken off as quickly as Apple may have hoped. Here are all the avenues that developers can use to build and distribute apps on the Mac (compared with iOS and Apple’s other platforms, which essentially have one): Running iOS apps on the Mac unmodified: This feature lets developers ship completely unmodified iPhone and iPad apps on Macs with in-house chips. Catalyst apps with an iPad-like interface: This technology lets developers modify their iPad apps and run them on the Mac with some optimizations. An example of this is Apple’s mediocre Mac Home app. Catalyst apps with a Mac-optimized interface: This goes a step further, with developers using the same underlying technology and code from their iOS app, but fully optimizing the app’s interface for macOS. The Mac’s well-received Messages, Swift Playgrounds, Find My and Maps apps are examples. AppKit apps: These are standard, native Mac apps built for the desktop first using Apple’s standard development technologies. This list includes Safari, Calendar, Mail and the Photos apps, plus more intricate software like Final Cut Pro. Electron apps: This method is the only one not made by Apple, but it’s still pretty po[CENSORED]r because of its reliance on simpler web development technology. This app engine is used by Slack, WhatsApp and Visual Studio Code and is more easily deployable across both Mac and Windows. The jumble of options means there’s inconsistency across the Mac software ecosystem. Some apps are simply mirror images of existing iPhone and iPad apps and have no optimization. Some are slightly tweaked iPad programs. And others—like Slack and WhatsApp—behave like web apps and could drag down performance. Running unmodified iOS apps on the Mac seemed promising when Apple first debuted the feature last year alongside its own Mac chips, but that means the Mac now supports a bevy of iPhone apps that don’t function well on desktops and laptops. At the same time, big-name apps that would make sense on the Mac aren’t being made available by their developers. The ability to load up the Netflix, Instagram, Nest, Postmates or ESPN iOS app on my Mac would be ideal. On the plus side, Apple is now giving developers a bevy of options—something many of them appreciate. Developers have complained in the past about needing to make changes at the drop of a hat every time Apple adopts new technologies. Now that’s less of a problem. Apple is also offering new tools like the SwiftUI framework, which is a more modern way of developing native Mac apps. It can be used by both AppKit and Catalyst developers. And the company recently rolled out TestFlight for Mac (finally) to let developers better test their apps before shipping. The sweet spot for first- and third-party Mac development in 2021 is Catalyst apps with Mac-optimized interfaces. Those apps are optimized for high-performing machines and standard Mac input devices like keyboards and trackpads. They’re also often simpler to develop than native AppKit apps and rely heavily on existing iOS code. That means programmers can share code between their iOS and Mac apps, speeding up development while creating consistency for customers. The problem is that Apple hasn’t even fully embraced that technology, leading some developers to question which route they should take for their own software. While the majority of Apple’s new apps are built with Catalyst—including Voice Memos and Stocks—many of them still use AppKit. If the company wants to push developers to use Catalyst technology, it should convert the rest of its software to that option. I expect this to happen over the next few years. This will speed up Apple’s own development timelines, and the company won’t have to write completely different Mac and iOS versions of apps like Safari and Photos. This shift would free up engineering resources to develop new platforms and provide more consistent apps for users. While Apple’s Mac hardware is stronger than ever, the company must now focus on unifying its Mac software ecosystem—for the benefit of its own products, third-party app developers, and, of course, consumers. The Bench Apple’s car project goes full-throttle. Kevin Lynch, the Apple Watch software chief, began overseeing the company’s car effort in recent weeks. Now he’s pushing the team behind the project to accelerate its development, with an eye on debuting a car as early 2025. He also wants the first version of the vehicle to be fully autonomous and lack a steering wheel or pedals. It’s an ambitious and aggressive plan and certainly fascinating to follow. If you haven’t already, read my in-depth look at what’s happening inside Apple’s car division as the company aims to take on Tesla Inc. link : https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2021-11-21/why-is-apple-s-aapl-strategy-for-developing-mac-apps-so-confusing-kw9lv17j

We're rerunning Richard Cobbett's classic Crapshoot column, in which he rolled the dice and took a chance on obscure games—both good and bad. From 2010 to 2014 Richard Cobbett wrote Crapshoot, a column about rolling the dice to bring random obscure games back into the light. This week, it's not just one game under the microscope, but our first random grab-bag of stuff that's fun, but not necessarily enough to justify a full write-up of their own. Writing this column every week, it's not hard to find obscure and interesting games. Often though, things get put on the back-burner for various reasons—usually because while there's something neat about the game, the interesting bit is fairly simple. Weird action games especially tend to be pretty easily summed up, at least unless you're planning to make one of those angry review shows on YouTube and need to complain about things that wouldn't be a problem if you'd actually read the manual. Ahem. This week then, we're going to speed through some of the games that didn't make it, quickfire-style—a few one-shot oddities, with no connection save them all being amusing. Let's dive in! Heimdall for example, was a rare example of a game whose character creation was much more iconic and interesting than the actual game, even at the time. The actual game was a badly designed isometric RPG with a penchant for deathtraps—and while there was a sequel that followed it up, neither particularly warrant any lingering nostalgia these days. If you're going to play an old game using these characters, try God Of Thunder—a cute little Zelda-style shareware game that never got much attention back in the day, but is much more memorable than anything in Heimdall. Except perhaps for this bit! This is actually part of the character creation system: three minigames you played that determined your starting situation. Many games have experimented with random chance, point buy, and Ultima asking morality questions. Heimdall opted for the oddly never-again-used 'throw axes at an understandably nervous girl's hair' approach. Beats rolling dice for charisma points. Now, obviously, you'd never even dream of hurling one straight into her face to see what happened. In the interests of Science though, the answer is that she ducks out of the way—not quite as trapped in that pillory as she looks. Also, those braids are falsies, presumably because there are only so many Viking maidens around willing to risk not being fast enough at getting out of the way. From there, you went on to two more sub-games (catching a greased pig and fighting aboard a boat), but it was this first one that stuck in the mind for fairly obvious reasons. With stats set, it was then time to head off for adventure. We however are not following that journey, because it's dull. Instead, here's the old RPG Eye of the Beholder 3 inventing the Goatse. What could be less sexy than that? Well, let's try an experiment. Imagine you were writing a text adventure about a trip to a brothel, but wanted to kill the erection—this being 1983, we can take it as read that no lady-equivalent was under consideration—of anyone who came across it. Can you think of a better way than calling it Granny's Place? Rhetorical question. The answer is no. "You are about to visit Granny's Place, a pleasant little house where a man with time on his hands and a pair of tight balls can go to loosen up," says the intro, before dropping you off in front of a small white house that, like its Zork equivalent, wastes little time having you head down a tight passage into a mysterious cave. Ha. No, seriously. This was 1983. This game is milder than milk. It's probably even milder than the Strip Poker game that casual gaming superstars PopCap were making before changing their name from "Sexy Action Cool" and making a fortune with Bejeweled instead. What's that? You think I'm joking? Nope. But I digress, which beats having to undress. What's strange about Granny's Place that it actually is a Zork rip-off, only with the promise of hookers instead of just frotzing yourself into a frenzy. As you step up to the house, you find a flashlight—which seems a little odd. Going inside explains everything. As you probably know, the Zork games had a monster called a grue—as in "it is dark, you are likely to be eaten by a grue." In Granny's Place, that becomes "It is now pitch dark. If you go on, a hitman may find you." I've never been to a brothel, so maybe people who visit them like the danger of knowing they can be killed at any second, but this seems like a somewhat short-sighted way to build repeat custom. And it's not just a joke. Go wandering around in the dark, and: "A pair of gloved hands suddenly grab you by the throat! You struggle, but can't get free..." If you turn on the flashlight though, inside you meet a bouncer with a walrus moustache, who doesn't murder you, but does just shrug off the whole point of the game with, "The girls is all busy, Mac. Where d'you want to go?" Exploring, you won't find much in the way of sexual bliss, but you will find a little old lady knitting upstairs with a sawed-off shotgun ready to shoot at your head, and a man with a fire axe randomly yelling "I'll get you, you sun of a *****!" before hurling it at your face. It's at this point that even the horniest sane man will simply take himself elsewhere, and take matters into—ahem—his own hands. There is some sex available in the game though. If you find the maid for example, Fifi, you can type something rude into the parser, and in return, get a moment of sheer eroticism that retroactively demotes Lady Chatterley's Lover back to just Lady Chatterley's Gardener. "First you do it to her. Then she does it to you. Then you do it to each other. Man, oh man! Every which way but loose!" Advertisement Wow. It's just like being there. With Clint Eastwood. And a monkey. This is however still sexier than Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, one of the most infamous FMV failures ever. I'm often asked why I've never featured it, and the answer is two-fold: I've never been able to find a copy of the PC version, which scored a frankly generous 3% back in PC Gamer UK Issue 8, and also there's not much to say about it that hasn't already been covered in video reviews like this one. What is it? Let me start by saying that I really hate it when critics use the word 'lazy' to describe games. To make even a simple game, the most cack-handed tie-in piece of crap imaginable, takes effort, skill, blood, sweat, and tears, and it's the height of arrogance to dismiss that while sitting in an ivory tower where all you really have to do is play someone else's hard work and then snark at it. That being said: Christ, this is a lazy pile of shit—a barely interactive photo story that feels like it was written the night before filming, where 'filming' means 'shooting some random pictures of a girl in her bra and a plumber who does in fact wear a tie'. It's so lazy at one point a character fluffs a line and they left it in. Its only redeeming feature (and I've calculated this as the same amount of redemption a serial killer would get for dropping 20p into a charity box) is how surreal it is. The only thing stopping it being in the running for worst commercial game ever created is that it's barely a game. Advertisement And also Altered Beast exists. Hmmm. That's now two games for the guys. Let's balance a little with a rare one for the ladies—an obscure little platformer called The Lost City of Atlantis. What makes it stand out? Yep, it's one of the only non-pornographic games ever made with a completely naked main character, and a male one with a penchant for casual full-frontals at that. Though not impressive ones, we can agree, and the setting rather stops him blaming that fact on the cold. Shrinkage, perhaps. What does soon become obvious though is that hero Raghim is surrounded by easily grabbable cloth things, and thus the only reason he's bouncing around platforms with Commander Keen hanging out is that he wants to. Oddly, despite Lara Croft becoming infamous for a nude code that never actually existed, this didn't help Raghim become an international icon. Hell, he didn't even get decent controls. Here's something completely different though: Gold Rush. It's one of the more forgotten Sierra adventures, and probably for good reason. It's also one of the most confused in design terms, with the first half aiming to be a historical story of a man taking part in the California Gold Rush, and then the second half collapsing into dribbling conspiracy and nonsensical puzzles. The weirdest bit though is how it handles death. Sierra Online was infamous for death—something known to fans as 'Sierra Sudden Death Syndrome'. These games would kill you at the drop of a hat, and that's when they were being generous. They would kill you for not having bought a hat to drop onto an angry crocodile's head in Paris. They would kill you for putting on the hat, because it would have razor blades or something in it. In one of the most infamous examples, Leisure Suit Larry has a puzzle where you have to buy a snack in an airport, but when you try to eat it, you die because there was a pin in it. The only clue was that when you ate it, you died. Restore, Restart, Quit? Gold Rush took this a step further, adding random deaths to the mix. What do I mean? A big chunk of the game is non-interactive, with your character buying passage to the second half of the game by sea or land depending on how much you're willing to spend. If you take, say, the land path, sometimes you'll arrive and just drop dead of cholera. Or you'll be walking through a swamp, when a crocodile just appears and murders you. The reason for this sadism? Because sometimes, shit just happens. link : https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/saturday-crapshoot-quickies-week/

In the cold season, it can maintain an optimum body temperature, since Himachal Pradesh experiences harsh winters One thing that keeps echoing in my head whenever I visit Himachal is the idea of moving to the mountains permanently. It gets stronger with every visit. And honestly, it is not always the fresh air or the fresh food, it’s the vibe of the place and its people. Today, the story of one such visit to Shimla, Himachal Pradesh demands to be shared. I had shared about the journey to the capital of Himachal on my Instagram stories. To my surprise, one of my followers reached out and expressed her wish to meet up. Anju Nirmal Sharma ji from Kasumpti warmed my heart with a sweet and salty gesture: she surprised me with authentic homemade siddus in both sweet and salty versions. The sweet siddu was prepared with a stuffing of jaggery and nuts, while the salty variation of this classic Himachali cuisine was a mixture of chutney ingredients like mint, garlic, onions along with some poppy seeds. During our ensuing conversation about the traditional dhams (celebratory feast) from Himachal, and how recipes have been customised over the years, Anju told me the siddus she made have kodo millet flour. I am beyond excited to share her unique, customised recipe of this dish. In the cold season, it can maintain an optimum body temperature as Himachal Pradesh experiences harsh winters. Method:1. Add instant yeast, jaggery and salt to the whole wheat and kodo millet flour together. Knead the mixture with lukewarm water. Leave the dough covered for 1-2 hours. It will become light and fluffy. Authentic recipe calls for natural yeast but this time it was an impromptu plan, so instant yeast came handy.2. For the stuffing, take poppy seeds (posth dana) and heat it in a pan for 5 minutes with continuous stirring. Let it cook and then grind in a mixer. Add the rest of the ingredients and keep it aside.3. For sweet Siddu instead of savoury ones, you just need to add crushed jaggery in the poppy seeds powder along with chopped nuts.4. Now to make Siddus, make 6-10 balls with the dough and stuff it with posth dana mixture (poppy seeds mixture). Refer to the video attached for filling the stuffing.5. Boil water in the bottom tier of the steamer. Place siddus on the sieved containers and cover it with a tight lid. Steam them for about 15-20 minutes. Remove from the steamer. Siddu is ready to be served steaming hot with melted cow ghee and walnut chutney.6. Always serve hot.(Shalini Rajani is a millet coach, the founder of Crazy Kadchi, and holds innovative Millets Cooking Workshops for all age groups.) link : https://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/food-wine/food-for-the-soul-homemade-himachali-siddus-7634102/

Information, amounts and rules for auto eco-bonuses. Such as Incentives on new and used cars, from electric to hybrids with and without scrapping nice theme, the 2021 car bonus . There is talk of the many incentives for car scrapping in Italy to buy a new or used one in price reduction thanks to the State, which sometimes together with the Regions, puts good money to the aid of motorists. Money that is not enough, however, to always satisfy everyone. That is why it is not absolute to say "up to 10,000 or 12,000 euros" for those who scrap and take an electric car. It depends , given that the millions allocated often run out and have to be refinanced over time. The types of engine are not excluded or indicated, in order to have the car bonus, but we always speak only of exhaust emissions declared by the manufacturer , thus leaving the door open also to classic thermals and bi-fuel. Ecobonus auto, Amounts The auto eco-bonus in Italy, in this phase of 2021, sees the maximum amount put by the state in combination with the resale of 6,000 euros. Reservations are allowed until June 30, 2022 and electric or plug-in hybrid cars are the ones that get the highest eco-incentive amounts. According to the logic of emissions protection, the car purchase bonus is lower when buying used cars, petrol or diesel, allowed only if Euro 6 D. Below is a precise indication of all the amounts, currently valid for auto eco-incentives. They are those with scrapping bonuses, the most substantial dedicated to new and used cars, but also without. In the event of a car change with a new model in the 0-20 g / km emission range (essentially cars with plugs) without scrapping, there is a bonus of 6,000 euros (5,000 state + 1,000 euros net from dealers). If with scrapping 10,000 euros (8,000 state + 2,000). For new cars in the 21-60 g / km range without scrapping, the overall bonus is 3,500 euros; in case of scrapping, 6,500 euros of total eco-bonus. When new cars are in the 61-135 g / km emissions range with scrapping, there are 3,500 euros. There are several eco-incentives for used cars, always divided according to emissions band. Used cars in the 0-60 g / km range with scrapping take 2,000 euros; those 61-90 g / km 1,000 euros; finally used cars 91-160 g / km take 750 euros. Remember that the car Ecobonus with scrapping discount is obtained by buying new cars if the list price is a maximum of 61,000 euros (50,000 € excluding VAT) while to have eco-incentives on used cars, the average market price must not exceed 25,000 euros. REGIONS : Regarding the 2021 car bonus, it should be remembered that there are also some regional car incentives of a certain weight to be considered and optioned at the reference body, by talking to the dealer. As in Lombardy (up to 8,000 euros), Lazio (up to 3,500 euros) or Veneto (up to 8,000 euros). These are 2021 car incentives that affect the various types of engines mentioned as appropriate. link : https://www.automoto.it/news/bonus-auto-2021-guida-agli-incentivi-rottamazione-auto.html

Two people among a group of 17 US and Canadian missionaries kidnapped by an armed gang in Haiti last month have been released, aid officials say. Christian Aid Ministries said on Sunday that the two individuals were "safe, in good spirits, and being cared for". "We cannot provide or confirm the names of those released," the ministry said, giving no further details. The abduction of the missionaries and their family members, including children, was reported on 16 October. They were returning from a visit to an orphanage when the bus they were travelling in was seized by gang members on a main road in the town of Ganthier, east of the capital, Port-au-Prince. All of those abducted at the time - five men, seven women and five children - are US citizens, except one who is a Canadian national. The gang reported to be behind the kidnappings, which goes by the name of 400 Mazowo, later demanded a ransom of $1m (£740,000) for each of the 17 people being held. Who are the kidnapped missionaries? On Sunday, Christian Aid Ministries - a US-based organisation that supports Haitians largely through donations, and supplies shelter, food and clothing to children - released a statement saying it continued to "pray for the full resolution of this situation". "While we rejoice at this release, our hearts are with the 15 people who are still being held," the statement added. Seizing vehicles and all of their occupants for ransom is one of the main activities that the 400 Mazowo uses to finance itself. In April, the gang abducted a group of Catholic clergy, who were later released. It is not clear if a ransom was paid. Haiti has one of the highest rates of kidnapping in the world, as powerful gangs exploit the lawless situation to make money from ransom payments. This year has been particularly bad, with nearly 800 kidnappings reported before the end of October. The rise has come in the wake of President Jovenel Moïse's assassination in July, as rival factions fight to gain control of the country in the face of a struggling police force. link: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-59369455

Latest version of Edge browser could save you money and battery life The latest version of Microsoft Edge has been unveiled with a strong focus on ecommerce for one of the busiest shopping periods of the year, including the latest Black Friday 2021 deals. The browser has added features that will help users compare prices, save money, check out reviews of products, and more. Shopping at any time of year means having to keep checking sites to make sure that the price hasn't changed on the products you want or need. If you're tracking multiple products across multiple online stores, it can be hard to remember quite what has happened with prices since you last checked - but Edge says it is now able to help. In addition to saving money, Edge – in conjunction with Bing – can be used to earn rewards while shopping online, gaming, or even just searching the web. To help you keep track of your rewards, it is now possible to pin Rewards to the Microsoft Edge tool bar – just enable the Microsoft Rewards button under Appearance in Settings. Save money and power Saving money is something that just about everyone can get onboard with; no one likes spending more money than they have to, after all. But the latest version of Edger can help you to make savings in other ways too. Efficiency mode is a fabulous feature of the browser that help you to stay online for longer, even when your battery is running low. What's great about efficiency mode in Microsoft Edge is that you don't need to do anything to take advantage of it – it's all entirely automated. When your laptop battery starts to run low, Edge's efficiency mode will kick in to maximize how long you can keep using it. By reducing CPU and RAM usage, the browser uses fewer system resources and is less of a drain in your battery. Analysis: making savings that matter For all of the progress Microsoft has made with Edge and the shift to the Chromium engine, the company is still having to work hard to shake off the reputation that it earned itself with Internet Explorer. It's fair to say that Edge is a far superior browser to IE, and the rapid development cycle has helped the browser to build up a dedicated following. It is still a relatively small following when compared to the likes of Chrome, but it is a growing one. Microsoft has learned what people want, and it has learned to give it to them. The company knows that people like to save money, that they want speedy performance, and that they want to eek out the most possible usage from their laptop between charges, With Edge, Microsoft is in a rare position of being able to address all of these things, and it is doing so withy increasing panache. link : https://www.techradar.com/news/this-new-microsoft-edge-update-will-help-you-snag-the-best-black-friday-deals

The Editor's Choice Alienware AW2521H is on a huge sale. Nowadays, it's not difficult to find high-refresh rate monitors at reasonable prices, but if you want to go all the way up to 360 Hz, you'll often pay more than $600. That's why Dell's current deal on the Alienware AW2521H is so impressive. This 360 Hz, HDR display normally goes for $649 to $865, depending on where and when you buy it, but right now, Dell.com has the AW2521H on sale for just $379. When we published our Alienware AW2521H review, we were blown away not only by the 24.5-inch monitor's buttery-smooth, blur-free picture, but also its amazingly-low input lag and response time. The HDR10 IPS display reproduced 112 percent of the SRGB color gamut and 76 percent of the DCI-P3 gamut while notching a full 460 nits of brightness. The Alienware AW2521H adds a dose of style with customizable RGB lights on the back surface. The high-quality stand is height-adjustable, offers 5/21 degrees of tilt and the ability to swivel into portrait mode. For connectivity, the Alienware AW2521H provides a single DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.0 connectors, along with four USB 3.2 ports. However, the most impressive thing about the Alienware AW2521H is the high-speed gaming experience it provides. "Gameplay this responsive and smooth is truly addictive," our monitor expert Christian Eberle wrote. He also noted that the difference between the AW2521H's 360 Hz panel and a 240 Hz panel is more than noticeable, even when moving dialog boxes around the screen. [Auto/Moto] Britain's best driver's car 2021: the final three
#Hassan. posted a topic in Auto / Moto
It’s the moment the cricket crowd holds its breath. The first two balls have sent stumps cartwheeling, and this is the third. The hat-trick ball. The bowler has steamed through his run-up, the ball is released. Twenty-two yards away a batsman grimaces. Can it possibly be three in a row? This is our 33rd attempt to find Britain’s Best Driver’s Car, and while plenty have won, just three have successfully defended a win (the Honda NSX, Ferrari 550 Maranello and Ariel Atom 4). That hat-trick car has always eluded us. But as an attendee at all bar the first of those 33 BBDCs, believe me when I tell you none has had a better shot at it than the Atom. That it won in glorious weather as a brand-new car in 2019 was perhaps not so surprising; that it was victorious again last year in absolutely filthy conditions was one of the most extraordinary feats and biggest upsets any of us have witnessed at this event. That the Atom made it through three largely dry days on Anglesey to progress to the final shootout, then, is unlikely to move your lower mandible. You’ll probably not faint with amazement to see the new Porsche 911 GT3 is here, either. But don’t suppose for a moment that it will walk away with this one just because it’s now got some downforce and fancy-pants front suspension. GT3s always do well at BBDC, but wins are perhaps rarer than you imagine: the most recent was back in 2017. That leaves the joker in the pack: the Ferrari. It is a car not far off 200bhp more powerful than any in the history of the event, a car that brings a new level of technological sophistication, not to mention the now customary truck full of spare wheels, tyres and technicians, plus another SF90 to use on the road. You can view this as Ferrari trying to re-level the playing field in its favour, or you can see it as Ferrari taking our event rather more seriously than the others. All I would say is the rules are the same for everyone and Ferrari alone chooses to exploit them to the full. That said, and despite plenty of opportunities, the last time a Ferrari came out on top was 2015, so don’t think for a moment this is going to be any kind of dead-cert coronation. Those, then, are the three and, as we have had cause to observe at this point in previous contests, what a pleasing symmetry they present: one Brit, one German, one Italian. One sports car, one supercar, one hypercar. Two rear-drivers, one with all-wheel drive. One with three pedals, two with two. One with its engine at the back, two with theirs in the middle. You’d have thought that after more than three decades, a formula for doing this right would by now have emerged and that we’d know that only a car in a certain configuration could win. It is a matter of some joy and no little relief to find that the perfect formula remains as elusive as ever. To battle. Let’s take the Atom first, just to remind ourselves where the standard now sits. It’s one of those rare cars that, despite having no inherent flaws, is so rapid that driving it as fast as you can make it go actually feels like a brave thing to do. So there’s no point in doing three laps and coming in all breathless and overwhelmed. What story could result from that? Stay out there. Find the car beneath all that rushing air, those wastegate whoops and jet fighter thrust. Let it normalise. It takes time, especially if you’re flirting with option ‘3’ on the boost settings, but it happens. Perhaps you’re now expecting me to say that what is revealed is just a good, honest, back-to-basic sports car. But it’s not; it is so much more than that. The reason the Atom 4 has done so well over the past three years is less to do with its raw materials than what has been done with them. Yes, this one has all the trick bits – Öhlins dampers, the limited-slip diff, track-day tyres, big brakes and so on – but, all in, the car is not much more than half the price of the GT3. The point is not how simple this car feels but how sophisticated. link : https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/features/britains-best-drivers-car-2021-final-three -

A 70-year-old man has shot dead a brown bear in south-western France after it attacked and injured him while he was out hunting wild boar, officials say. The man reportedly fired two shots with a rifle at the female bear, who was wandering with her cubs at the time, killing the animal instantly. Local media report that the man suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to a hospital in Toulouse. Police are now investigating the Saturday afternoon incident. The man, part of a local hunting association in the Seix region of Ariège, had been bitten by the bear several times, causing damage to the arteries in his legs, police said. AFP news agency reports that a source close to the case said the man was in a serious condition. Police said they responded to an emergency call at about 15:30 local time (14:30 GMT) and when they arrived at the scene, they discovered the dead bear just metres from where the hunter was lying injured. A member of the same hunting association, who was not named, told local news website La Depeche that he heard a call for help on a radio the group uses while hunting, and made his way to the scene of the attack. "One person managed to stop the bleeding until help arrived," he said. A local council official in Ariège, Christine Tequi, said that such attacks were "what we feared". "Today, you can really see that cohabitation is complicated," she told AFP. France began reintroducing brown bears to the Pyrenees after numbers of the animals plummeted in the 1990s. But the move has sparked protests from local farmers who say the bears pose a risk to their livestock. link : https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-59362845

Clubhouse has announced that its closed captions are now available for Clubhouse chats. Clubhouse has started rolling out the closed captioning feature for the app on iOS. The much-awaited functionality auto-generates live transcriptions during an audio session and allows users to follow the speaker along with in-text format. People who are differently-abled can also access the audio-only social networking platform following the latest update. In that way, the new feature will add another element to the app's wider push. Live captioning is already available in Clubhouse's major rival in the audio space — Twitter Spaces. Clubhouse on November 18 announced the update on its official Twitter account together with an example. Users with the latest version of its iOS app can use the feature while in live rooms. The closed captions feature is currently available in 13 languages according to a report by TechCrunch. These include English, Cantonese, Mandarin Chinese, Yue Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, and Turkish. An additional 12 languages are said to be in beta testing. There's also no word yet on when Clubhouse will make closed captioning available on its Android app. Clubhouse recently launched a host of accessibility features that make the audio-chat platform easier to use. To rival the likes of Twitter Spaces, Facebook, and Instagram, Clubhouse has added support for 13 new languages to its Android app including French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kannada, Korean, Malayalam, Portuguese (Brazilian), Spanish, Tamil, and Telugu. You Can Now Listen to Twitter Spaces Without an Account Also, Clubhouse is adding the ability to record and replay conversations and download 30-second clips to share on social media or other sites. The app in October announced a new pinned links feature that lets users share outside links and monetise their work on the platform.

Deploy AI-powered chatbots to handle customer messages without having to write code As more consumers are now sending messages to interact with businesses online, Google Cloud has introduced AI-powered Business Messages to make it easier for both small and large businesses to respond to customer requests. Over the last two years, the search giant has seen a significant uptick in the number of people using messages to connect with businesses to check their hours of operation, verify if an item is in stock, scheduling a pick-up and more. As messages are quickly becoming the go-to way to interact with businesses, consumers expect communication with them to be speedy, simple and convenient. However, for businesses, keeping up with custom inquiries can be quite labor intensive especially outside of store hours. Google Cloud's AI-powered Business Messages allow business owners to connect with their customers on Google Search and Google Maps where they're likely already looking for answers. This new service allows customers to chat with virtual agents that can understand, interact and respond in natural ways. At the same time though, Google Cloud is combining smart automation with the ability for customers to chat with live agents when they need too. Since Business Messages automatically handle customer inquiries in the background, businesses can distribute their human customer service agents to address other needs. Bot-in-a-Box As getting started with AI can be difficult for any business but especially so for small businesses, Google is utilizing its existing AI tools like Google Cloud Contact Center AI's Dialogflow to create a new capability called Bot-in-a-Box within Business Messages. Bot-in-a-Box makes getting started with conversational AI easy as it allows for fast and effective adoption of automation regardless of the size of your business. Enabling this new functionality can be as simple as using an existing customer FAQ document you already have regardless of whether it's from a web page or an internal document. Since the conversational AI is powered by Business Messages and Dialoglfow working together, a business' chatbot is able to understand and respond to customer questions automatically without the need to write code. Bot-in-a-Box also supports “Custom Intents” which means that a chatbot is able to understand all of the different ways customers might express a similar question such as “What's my order status” and respond accurately using machine learning capabilities. Businesses interested in using Bot-in-a-Box and AI for Business Messages can check out this page to find one of Google Cloud's partners that specialize in setting up and using this new service. link : https://www.techradar.com/news/google-cloud-wants-to-up-your-business-ai-with-bot-in-a-box

The Gigabyte Aorus 15P YD packs in an RTX 3080 and a 300Hz 1080p screen. If you've been on the hunt for a graphics card upgrade, this laptop might be your way into the Nvidia 30-series club. The Gigabyte Aorus 15P YD comes equipped with an RTX 3080 and is currently $1949 on Newegg, which saves you $450 off the regular price. The price is pretty competitive when it comes to laptops that have a 1080p screen, Intel i7 processor, 32GB of RAM, and a 3080. One of our favorite gaming laptops, the Razer Blade 15, has similar specs and is commonly priced at $3,000. The 3080 in this thing is the laptop version of the elusive desktop GPU. In other words, it's the lower-spec 8GB GDDR6 memory version of the GPU, coming at reduced clock speeds (it can boost to 1,245 MHz) compared to the 16GB version. The laptop version of the 3080 runs at speeds much closer to a desktop 3070 because it actually has the same GA104 GPU inside. A 3070, for comparison, can boost up to 1725MHz. The Aorus 15P YD doesn't come with a 1440p or 4K screen. Typically, we recommend a 1440p screen as a compromise between 1080p and 4K. This laptop's IPS screen makes up for a lackluster resolution with the ability to speed up to 300Hz. In my experience, higher refresh rates are life-changing for competitive games like Halo Infinite and Overwatch, but in something turn-based, for example, it's not as important. Reducing the lag between your inputs and seeing it on screen is a big deal, but if you play slower-paced games, you won't benefit from it as much. This laptop pairs its 3080 with an Intel Core i7 11800H processor. It's an 8-core, 16-thread CPU that can boost up to 4.6GHz. You also get 32GBs of RAM. Both of these components make this laptop capable of non-gaming applications like video and photo editing, if that's your thing. The Aorus 15P YD escapes the laptop problem of having a tiny SSD, but not by much. Its 1TB SSD is not nothing, but it'd be nice to see even more than that. Modern games can have huge install sizes and swapping out which ones you have stored on your system is both a pain and potentially costly depending on if you have a data cap. For the price of this laptop, this isn't a huge knock, but it's something to consider if you tend to download lots of games and applications. The laptop's design is pretty subdued. It doesn't scream 'gamer' with a futuristic design and loud color accents, but it does come with a full RGB keyboard. It also has several useful ports, including three USB 3.2 ports, one Thunderbolt 4 port, one mini DisplayPort 1.4 port, and one HDMI 2.1 port, SD card reader, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. link : https://www.pcgamer.com/this-rtx-3080-gigabyte-laptop-is-dollar450-off/

[Auto-Moto] GAC claims 626-mile range for new LX electric SUV
#Hassan. posted a topic in Auto / Moto
New anode technology is claimed to endow the updated SUV with a 1000km-plus range GAC electric vehicle brand Aion has unveiled an upgraded version of its LX SUV at the 2021 Guangzhou motor show, claiming it has a range of up to 1008km (626 miles) on the official CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Testing Cycle) procedure. Called the LX Plus, the 2022 model adopts a new 144.4kWh lithium ion battery that uses GAC’s patented silicon sponge anode technology, first unveiled at the Shanghai motor show in April, in place of the standard LX’s 95.8kWh unit. The new anode technology is claimed to provide a 20% reduction in battery volume and 14% reduction in weight compared with similarly sized batteries using GAC’s previous graphite anode process. This has allowed Aion to increase the LX Plus’s battery capacity by 48.6kWh without any major re-engineering of the two-year-old SUV’s body structure. GAC also says its new silicon electrode brings improvements in cell energy density, power density and low-temperature performance. Aion claims an energy density of 205Wh/kg for the LX Plus's newly developed battery. This compares with 180Wh/kg for the battery used by the standard LX. Energy consumption on the CLTC procedure is rated at 4.1mkWh. The four-wheel-drive LX Plus is powered by two electric motors with a claimed combined output of 724bhp. Its maker puts the 0-62mph time at 2.9sec and top speed at 106mph. The latest LX also gets a new autonomous driving system that features three lidars supplied by Robosense. The LX Plus is due to go on sale in China in early 2022. Pricing has yet to be announced. link : https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/gac-claims-626-mile-range-new-lx-electric-suv -
Psychologists, therapists and social workers have quietly become a crucial part of pain treatment programs, proving to be as effective or more so than medication. By Sushma SubramanianOver the past two decades, as the opioid crisis has shaken the public’s view of painkillers and pharmaceutical companies have come under fire for their marketing practices, many patients are looking for alternatives. One of the leading contenders has become treating pain with talk therapy.Psychologists, therapists and social workers have quietly become a crucial part of pain treatment programs, proving to be as effective or more so than medication. In 2018, the medical journal The Lancet went so far as to recommend education and psychological treatment as first-line interventions for chronic low back pain, before pharmacological treatment. A spokesman for the American Psychological Association said they have only recently started tracking pain psychology and in 2021 found that nearly 40 percent of its members report their patients frequently have chronic pain. The organization is currently drafting guidelines for chronic pain treatment, a sign, according to Lynn Bufka, a Maryland psychologist and a senior director at the A.P.A., that it’s an important and growing field with science-based solutions.XX00:03 / 00:30XStill, finding the right pain counseling can take a bit of effort on the part of the patient. Here are a few things to consider before you get started.ALSO READ |‘Time to practise what we preach’: Therapists on taking care of their mental health amid pandemicWhat does a pain psychologist do?Many pain psychologists treat chronic pain with cognitive behavior therapy, or C.B.T., which focuses on reframing thoughts to positively affect behavior and emotions, or mindfulness, which involves learning to become conscious of feelings without reacting to them. Acceptance and commitment therapy combines mindfulness and C.B.T. to help patients accept their emotions and respond to them.Another method psychologists use to treat pain is biofeedback, which monitors a person’s muscle tension, heart rate, brain activity or other functions in real time to make patients aware of their stress and learn to control it. Lastly, some clinicians use hypnosis, which can be effective at managing pain for some people. What unifies all these treatments is a focus on teaching patients how they can use their minds to manage their pain. How do you find a pain psychologist?Finding a pain psychologist can be tough. Large medical centers and boutique practices are more likely to have comprehensive pain treatment but also tend to be in urban areas. People in rural areas or those who can’t afford the services get left out, said Rachel Aaron, an assistant professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Johns Hopkins Medicine. But even in urban areas, not all large medical networks have pain services.“It’s definitely a challenge to get from the initial pain diagnosis to psychological care no matter what system you’re in,” said Dr. Aaron. There are no specific certifications for pain management therapists, said Eric Garland, director of the Center on Mindfulness and Integrative Health Intervention Development at the University of Utah, nor does the American Psychological Association track their numbers. But most experts agree there is a shortage of pain-focused psychologists, just as with other mental health professionals. If you are interested in trying a pain therapist, Dr. Aaron said, the first stop is your primary care doctor. Some insurance plans cover pain psychology, but others do not. It’s important to talk to a mental health provider first about how to get treatment covered. After that, look for specialized pain clinics by calling hospitals in your area or use the Find a Therapist function on the Psychology Today website. Search for a provider who either treats your specific condition, be it fibromyalgia or migraines, or who treats chronic pain more broadly, a specialty often referred to as behavioral medicine or health psychology. There are also online programs that are evidence-based and freely available; Dr. Aaron recommends PainTRAINER and Pain Course. Some experts recommend working with licensed professionals with doctorates or master’s degrees in psychology or clinical social work with additional training in chronic pain, and to interview them about their training and approach before getting started. “If they can’t give a clear answer on their approach or how they would treat your specific pain issue, they probably don’t have good training,” Dr. Garland said. Most importantly, you should feel comfortable enough to open up with them.ALSO READ |Focus on preconception counselling for a smooth pregnancy, suggest doctorsWhat should you expect? Most pain therapy programs start with six to eight weekly sessions, said Fadel Zeidan, an associate professor of anesthesiology and executive director at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of California, San Diego. Often the first session is an evaluation to learn about the pain problem and the emotional issues it may be causing. You might then learn mindfulness techniques to separate the physical and emotional aspects of pain, train yourself to reframe negative thought patterns or practice paying more attention to pleasant sensations. One recent paper in JAMA Psychiatry found that two-thirds of chronic back pain patients who underwent four weeks of psychological treatment were pain-free, or nearly so, afterward. However, most studies show a more modest effect — about one-third of participants see a significant decrease in pain.To put this in perspective, this is about the same as opioids’ effect on chronic pain, but those benefits diminish over time (and they come with risks). The effectiveness of psychological pain management skills, on the other hand, can increase with practice.Dr. Zeidan recommended trying different methods at once — individualized therapy, pain management courses and group therapy. “We don’t actually know what the silver bullet is because there likely isn’t one to cure pain. So testing, validating and optimizing multiple approaches is a critical step.”What if you can’t see a psychologist in person? The definitions insurance companies use for chronic pain are rapidly changing — with pain being increasingly seen as its own disease — but for now it’s hard to get a trip to a pain psychologist covered. That can put one-on-one treatment out of reach for many.“We do not have enough trained psychologists to address all of the need,” said Beth Darnall, the director of the Stanford Pain Relief Innovations Lab. “We really have to look beyond what we are doing now.”Dr. Darnall said that technology could provide new alternatives, since many of the psychological tools shown to diminish pain can be learned and shared with minimal training. She has created a program, based on C.B.T. and other models, called Empowered Relief, which is affordable and can be done from your own home.Patients can sign up, often for free, for a single two-hour online class delivered by her or one of 300 instructors, all health care professionals, who offer simple skills to calm the nervous system, reframe pain and change how your brain processes it. It’s been integrated into the Cleveland Clinic for chronic pain and spine surgery patients, as well as several insurance companies. In one trial, a single class was comparable to eight sessions of C.B.T. She’s also currently working on an app and even virtual reality platforms.“You can live on a ranch in Idaho and get quality access to evidence-driven pain care,” she said.Dr. Darnall stressed that psychological counseling is just one component of a treatment program for chronic pain, which can also include medication or lifestyle changes.“It’s not psychological treatments or medication,” Dr. Darnall said. “It’s a menu, and patients might land on two or three different options that offer a good formula for them.”📣 For more lifestyle news, follow us on Instagram | Twitter | Facebook and don’t miss out on the latest updates!📣 The above article is for information purposes only and is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice. People chips are now rolling out in Google Sheets Google is rolling out a new update for its spreadsheet software that will make it just as easy to work with people as it is to work with numbers in Google Sheets. Earlier this year with the launch of smart canvas, Google made it possible to bring together all of its online collaboration tools in Google Workspace in any document a user is currently working on. At the same time, the search giant also introduced smart chips which enable users to add interactive building blocks to connect people, content and events into one seamless experience. Just last month, Google released its new universal @ menu to make it easier to add tables and images in addition to smart chips directly in Google Docs. By simply typing “@” while in a document, users can now see a list of recommended files, people, meetings, content elements and formats to insert into their office documents. Now in a new update to Google Sheets, Google is bringing this same functionality to spreadsheets in an effort to further foster collaboration. People chips in Google Sheets According to a new post on the Google Workspace blog, Google has now made it possible to add people chips directly into a Google Sheet. By typing “@” inside a cell in Sheets, users will be able to quickly view more information about their colleagues or contacts including their location, job title and contact information. However, people chips can also be used to take actions such as booking a meeting in Google Meet, starting a chat, sending an email and more directly from a smart chip in Sheets. While this may seem like a small update, it can be quite useful for those who need to keep track of a lot of people online such as an editor working with freelancers or a small business owner working with suppliers. People chips will be available by default to all paid Google Workspace users as well as those with personal Google accounts and this feature is now gradually rolling out so it may take a few days before you can access it in Sheets. link : https://www.techradar.com/news/keeping-track-of-your-colleagues-just-got-a-whole-lot-easier-in-google-sheets

That's not only a modern Nvidia GPU, but also 16GB of RAM, a solid six-core CPU, and it's plenty upgradeable, too. The Gigabyte G5 KC is a great entryway into PC gaming, and especially so when combined with a $250 price cut over at Newegg for Black Friday. That's not an excuse for any of that last-gen graphics stuff, either. This laptop is fitted with an Nvidia RTX 3060 6GB GPU, which puts it on par with the very latest green team graphics cards on desktop. At the heart of this laptop is the capable Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, which I've reviewed the desktop version of if you want to get an idea of performance. In actual fact, the mobile version is slightly beefier than that desktop model I checked out in terms of CUDA Cores, though it has slimmer memory and will be limited by thermal and power constraints in a laptop chassis. Nonetheless, a decent, modern chip for 1080p gaming, and one with all the benefits of Nvidia's frame rate boosting DLSS at its fingertips. For more Black Friday gaming laptop deals... here they are. That's all you'll need to ask of that RTX 3060, anyways, as the G5 KC comes with a 1080p, 15.6-inch panel. It's rated to run at a speedy 144Hz though, which puts this laptop safely in our PC gaming good books. Gigabyte G5 Gaming Laptop Gigabyte G5 KC | 15.6-inch | Intel Core i5 10500H| Nvidia RTX 3060 | 1080p | 144Hz | 16GB RAM | 512GB SSD | $1,199 $999 after at Newegg (save $250) We love an RTX 3060 gaming laptop with a discount, and for under $1,000, this is almost as good as it gets. That GPU and CPU combo will make for great 1080p, high-refresh gaming, and while there's not a huge amount of storage, those can be easily upgraded. As can the battery, and you can even add in a HDD if you so fancy. VIEW DEAL Now here's the surprising bit. Usually we'd see some RAM shenanigans at this sort of price, in the form of either 8GB of total memory or, even worse, just a single stick for poorly optimised operation. Though here, with the Gigabyte G5 KC, there's 16GB of the stuff. Though that's not confirmed to be dual-channel, a reliable review from NotebookCheck suggests it will be. There's also a ton of room for customisation here, thanks to this laptop's fairly hefty chassis design and upgradeability. There's a spare slot for another M.2 NVMe SSD, alongside the included 512GB one, and there's even an HDD spot open if you really want some high-capacity storage for cheap. Everything from the RAM to the battery can be replaced, should you need to, which makes this a great way to get into PC gaming without spending a heap of cash all at once. I also haven't spoken too much about the CPU, but that's not because it's anything to be ashamed of. The Intel Core i5 10500H is one generation old by now, but that's nothing too bad to worry about, and is a mighty capable six-core/12-thread processor capable of reaching 4.5GHz. I've been looking for the best Black Friday gaming laptop deals for a couple of weeks now, and while I've seen at least one cheaper RTX 3060 gaming laptop deal, with a well-rounded specs list, I have to say this Gigabyte deal is one of the best so far. Plus it's covered by Newegg's Black Friday Price Protection scheme, which works for all customers, not just members of some elusive club, and means you get money back if the price drops by the end of the month. link : https://www.pcgamer.com/for-under-dollar1000-theres-a-whole-lot-of-gaming-silicon-in-this-rtx-3060-black-friday-gaming-laptop/
