  2. This year's postponed London Marathon could be staged with elite athletes only, says race director Hugh Brasher. Brasher said that was one of 10 options that are "changing all the time", which could also see a further delay. The event was due to take place on Sunday but has been moved to 4 October because of the coronavirus pandemic. Nearly 43,000 runners took part in 2019, while Eliud Kipchoge and Kenenisa Bekele are set to go head to head in the 2020 elite men's race. "We hope we can welcome them back in October but at this stage we just don't know what is going to happen," said Brasher. "We have to look at it in totality, with three quarters of a million spectators, the medical side, the charities. "We are looking at probably 10 scenarios, and they are changing all the time." The Tokyo Marathon went ahead last month with elite runners only on largely deserted streets. The Berlin Marathon, along with London one of the sport's six 'majors', will not go ahead as planned on 27 September after Germany extended a ban on large-scale gatherings until 24 October. Brasher said he is in touch with other major race directors and some "radical ideas" have been discussed, but he did not reveal further details of those suggestions.
  3. Belgian Prime Minister Sophie Wilmès has announced a detailed plan to gradually lift the country's coronavirus restrictions. Under new rules, all shops will be allowed to open their doors again from 11 May, with schools reopening the following week - albeit with a cap on pupil numbers in each class. But Ms Wilmès cautioned that "nothing is set in stone". More than 45,000 people have tested positive for the virus in Belgium. More than 6,900 deaths have been recorded in the nation of 11.4 million - the highest rate per capita in Europe. More than half the fatalities have been in care homes, and the number of deaths in hospitals has been falling.
  4. If you’ve been using Apple Maps in CarPlay, you’re going to find that Google Maps and Waze look rather familiar. That’s because Apple imposes a lot of restrictions on the way CarPlay apps are allowed to look, so all of the information, buttons, and options are generally laid out in the same way across all three apps. Google Maps and Waze do have their own color schemes and some other app-specific features that aren’t available in Apple Maps, but the main interface and directions are presented in the same way as Apple’s app. What you won’t find in either Google Maps or Waze is the ability to get directions via Siri, through a microphone button on your steering wheel, the Hey Siri voice command, or long-pressing the home button on the CarPlay screen. Apple limits Siri interactions to its own apps. So just like how you can’t ask Siri to play something in Spotify, you also can’t ask it to give you directions to your house in Google Maps. That’s the first big frustration with using Google Maps or Waze because once you’re driving down the road, voice control is the primary way you’re able to interact with CarPlay apps. Doing so via a steering wheel button is extremely convenient. Google has built in its own voice control system to Google Maps and Waze, but to access it, you have to tap a button on the screen before issuing your command, which means you have to take your eyes off of the road for a second or two. The way around this is to program your destination before you start driving, but that’s not always possible. Google also provides one-tap buttons to frequent locations, such as home, work, saved places, and gas stations.
  5. EK ships its new AIO 240 D-RGB cooler with mounting hardware for limited CPU sockets, focusing primarily on AMD’s AM4 Ryzen processors and Intel’s mainstream 115x desktop line as well as the 2066/2011x. Installation materials are something we rarely make much fuss over, but the 8-language document provided with the AIO 240 D-RGB is one of the densest installation manuals we’ve ever seen. The cooler measures 8.25 x 5.6 inches (210 mmx142 mm) and weighs a meaty 5.2 ounces (148 g). EK has developed the AIO 240 D-RGB to pair with its EK Loop Connect management system (sold separately), which provides fan curve control, pump performance, lighting control, data collection and temperature monitoring , via the EK Connect software suite. The EK Loop Connect is a hardware/software solution for those who might be weary of making motherboard BIOS adjustments or want full system control and monitoring on the desktop. But it does add $60 to the price of this cooling kit.
  6. The shutdown on cricket in England and Wales will remain until at least 1 July, meaning the postponement of England's Test series against West Indies. No domestic competitions have been cancelled yet, but the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will meet on Wednesday to discuss the inaugural season of The Hundred, which is due to start on 17 July. The domestic season, scheduled to start on 12 April, had been delayed until at least 28 May because of coronavirus. The ECB says it will look to schedule all international cricket between July and the end of September. England women's limited-overs series against India - scheduled to start on 25 June - has also been postponed. ECB chief executive Tom Harrison said: "As much as we remain hopeful that we can deliver some cricket this summer, we are in the midst of a worldwide crisis and our priority - over and above the playing of professional sport - will be to protect the vulnerable, key workers and society as a whole. "That's why, simply put, there will be no cricket unless it's safe to play. Our schedule will only go ahead if government guidance permits."
  7. The US virus death toll has surpassed 50,000, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, in what is the world's deadliest Covid-19 outbreak. More than 3,000 deaths came in the last 24 hours, and there are now over 870,000 confirmed cases nationwide. But the US still has a lower mortality rate than most European nations based on current case counts, as the White House task force has emphasised. The grim news comes as parts of the US reopen after weeks of lockdown. Some hair salons, bowling alleys and other businesses are opening on Friday in Georgia, Alaska and Oklahoma. The US has by far the highest death toll and case count in the world. However, it has a po[CENSORED]tion of 330 million, much higher than other worst affected countries such as Spain and Italy.

  9. Rugby Australia chief executive Raelene Castle has resigned after 10 former Wallabies captains signed a letter demanding a change in leadership. Castle said she believes the board no longer wanted her in the role. She steps down amid a financial crisis in Australian rugby union that has been compounded by the coronavirus pandemic. "It has been made clear to me that the board believes my no longer being the CEO would help give them the clear air they believe they need," Castle said. "The game is bigger than any one individual — so I told the chair (Paul McLean) that I would resign from the role.” Nick Farr-Jones, the captain of the 1991 World Cup-winning team, and George Gregan were among the 10 ex-skippers to sign the letter. Michael Lynagh was originally among the signatories but withdrew his support. Castle had taken a 50% pay cut and laid off 75% of Rugby Australia staff in an attempt to cut costs, with the body facing losses of around £62m if no more rugby was played this year. Rugby Australia and the players' union had also agreed to a 60% average pay cut for the country's 192 professionals up to the end of September to keep the sport afloat during the shutdown. Castle became the first woman to lead any of Australia’s major rugby or football codes when she took the role in December 2017. She faced criticism for her handling of the sacking of Wallabies full-back Israel Folau last year, as well as the failure to agree a new TV broadcast deal. Australia were knocked out by England in the quarter-finals of last year's men's World Cup.

  10. Police in India have launched a manhunt after a six-year-old girl was abducted outside her home in Madhya Pradesh state and raped. The attacker inflicted severe injuries to the child's eyes, in an apparent attempt to stop her identifying him. She is in a critical condition in hospital in Jabalpur city, police told the BBC. The state's Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan called the attack "shameful". Police said that the girl had been playing with friends near her home in a village in Damoh district on Wednesday evening when she was abducted. She was found on Thursday morning, unconscious with her hands tied, in an abandoned building in the village. "We found that her eyes were damaged by the accused, who also inflicted injuries on her face," district superintendent Hemant Chauhan told the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency. "Doctors are operating on her eyes."

  11. The year 2020 begins strongly. After Jennifer Aniston, the star of the Friends series, who launched on the social network in January, April is definitely marked by the arrival of Johnny Depp on Instagram. The craziest? In just 15 minutes, the 56-year-old actor has garnered 176,000 followers. Johnny Depp wasted no time in publishing his very first photo: surrounded by candles, Lily-Rose Depp's father explains in description “filming something” for his community, which is growing visibly. Stay tuned.

  15. Phil Neville's future as England women's manager is set to be revealed on Thursday after dates for the delayed European Championship are confirmed. Neville, 43, has been in talks with the Football Association for several weeks. His contract lasts until June 2021, which would have been after the Euros but they have been postponed to 2022 because of the coronavirus pandemic. The tournament, to be held in England, was moved because the Tokyo Olympics have been pushed back to next year. Neville, who became manager in January 2018, has faced questions about his future. He led England to a first SheBelieves Cup title in 2019 before a fourth-place finish at the World Cup that summer. But since last year's quarter-final win over Norway, the Lionesses have lost seven of 11 games and failed to retain their SheBelieves Cup title in March. Despite those results, the former Manchester United player has retained the support of the FA. The decision about his contract has come about because of coronavirus and its impact on the women's football calendar. Idealy, the FA wants someone to take the side through the Tokyo Olympics - where the manager will lead a Great Britain team - the Euros and the 2023 World Cup so that there is continuity. But that means Neville would need to commit until 2023 and, the Olympics aside, he faces a further two years of friendly matches with England because of their host status for the European Championship. The postponements of the Olympics and Euros would also give the FA time to appoint a new manager and refresh the playing squad before an unprecedented run of major tournaments. After the SheBelieves Cup, where England lost to World Cup winners the United States and also to Spain, Neville said he would walk away if he felt he was not "motivated enough" to continue. He also said: "I think we need to take a step back now and start building the foundations again - getting back to the brilliant basics."
  16. All of Germany's states have announced plans to make face masks compulsory to combat the spread of coronavirus. Bremen became the final federal region to back the measures, with its senate set to confirm the decision on Friday. Mask use will be compulsory on public transport throughout Germany, and nearly all states will also make face coverings mandatory when shopping. Germany's Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has confirmed 145,694 cases and recorded 4,879 deaths in total. Wednesday's data showed a second consecutive day that new infections rose, with 281 deaths compared with 194 reported on Tuesday. Johns Hopkins University in the US puts the number of German deaths at 5,117. Germany's federal vaccines institute approved clinical trials for a possible vaccine involving humans on Wednesday. About 200 healthy volunteers aged between 18 and 55 will be tested with variants of the drug, developed by US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and German company BioNTech. Scientists at the University of Oxford are set to start trials on humans on Thursday, the UK government says. Separate trials are also taking place in the US city of Seattle.
