  2. JioMeet takes on Zoom offering all features for free The booming videoconferencing market has acquired another heavyweight player after Indian giant Reliance Jio announced it would be launching a new service. JioMeet will look to take on the likes of Zoom and Microsoft Teams to help the millions of people working from home during the global pandemic. Reliance Jio is also currently offering all its tools free of charge to businesses and consumers alike as it looks to stand out from the crowd. JioMeet launch The JioMeet app is available now across Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and even for Chrome browser. The service is free to use for anyone and unlike Zoom, it does not have a capping of free calls, with JioMeet claiming that calls can last for several hours with a maximum of 100 users at a time. These calls can be made in HD resolution, though the website does not state if the calls are encrypted end-to-end - TechRadar Pro has reached out to Jio for clarification. To ensure that its meetings are secured, calls on JioMeet are password-protected and like Zoom, it also has a “Waiting room” that ensures no unwanted attendees can barge into the calls. Interestingly, JioMeet also allows users to attend a call without signing up for the service. All the users need to do is to enter the meeting id on the JioMeet app to join the video call session. This feature works on all the platforms. JioMeet also supports the multi-login feature, allowing users to log in into five devices at a time with the same id and lets users switch devices seamlessly during a call. As for any video calling application, JioMeet also allows users to share their screens and collaborate online. The service has already been called out for bearing an uncanny resemblance to Zoom that will be instantly recognisable to users of the latter service. This includes multiple interface similarities, as well as features such as “Do Not Disturb” and “Safe Driving Mode” that are present in Zoom. Reliance Jio has been in overdrive since India went into its lockdown, with a flurry of investments helping the company go debt free nine months before its target.

  5. Confinement obliges, we waited for May to take the new Golf 8 and the 308 in the Alps, for a meeting… at the top. Reasons to choose the Volkswagen Golf… Simply because it’s a Golf! Since 1974, the compact preferred by Europeans has seduced by its versatility and homogeneity. Driving in Golf means, at the same time, favoring a certain discretion, and above all, buying the car that offers the best compromise in the category. And this eighth generation is no exception to the rule. The German compact does everything well, when its rival of the day, the Peugeot 308, marks time on certain aspects. More modern, the Volkswagen benefits from 100% digital and configurable on-board instrumentation, while the 308 retains the traditional needles, certainly effective, but which today seem a bit outdated. The most glaring difference concerns the central handset grouping together all the information related to infotainment, equipment configuration and navigation. The quality of the Golf’s screen exceeds that of the 308 in terms of graphics, and most importantly, the sharpness of the rear view camera. The same goes for safety, where the Volkswagen receives equipment - admittedly a little intrusive for driving enthusiasts - revealing the generation gap between the two cars. Delivered in series, the adaptive cruise control is more efficient than that, optional, of the Peugeot, which shows a certain brutality in its reactions. In terms of driving, once is not custom, it seems that the German engineers are here inspired by what is done on the other side of the Rhine, the French having always had access in terms of driving pleasure, thanks to exemplary driving behavior, especially at Peugeot. For its eighth generation, the Golf presents itself as at the level of a remarkable 308. Better, it exceeds the French in terms of the comfort of the suspensions. Despite a higher pneumatic ride on our test model, the Golf does indeed demonstrate a slightly higher softness at low speed. A significant argument in urban use. Far from being uncomfortable, the 308 is a bit firmer on the cobblestones. In terms of roominess in the rear seats, the Peugeot wipes a biting back there. Already badly off when it came out in 2013, it obviously did not progress a little on this point, still not inviting adults to take a seat in the back seat: 6 cm less legroom on a car of this template, it's colossal. And to push the nail further, the Golf can count on larger glass surfaces, which give it a feeling of greater space. In short, we got there less confined. A rather appreciable detail in these times ... Finally, on the price side, if the German takes a very slight advantage on the purchase, it retains a real head start on resale, thanks to a significantly higher value. And this, despite all the efforts made by Peugeot in recent years to move upmarket. In a word, the Golf remains the Golf. And no other compact on the European market can boast of benefiting from such a concrete image. … Or prefer the Peugeot 308 Despite its advanced age - because on our market since September 2013 and replaced at the end of the year - the compact Sochalan flies over the debate on road behavior and driving pleasure. An observation that was still imposed during the 1,500 km driven at the wheel of the two rivals of the day. In addition to an excessively precise front / steering train, the French rolls curves and turns even better than the Golf, and at higher speeds. There is no need to be Sébastien Loeb to take pleasure in driving and appreciate the precision, dynamism and agility of the 308. What is more on the winding roads of Savoie, where we took our shots . But PSA doesn't just design chassis. If we regret the absence of new, more bulky petrol engines on the larger models (508, 3008, 5008…), it is clear that the small three-cylinder 1.2 PureTech 130 hp remains a benchmark of its kind. Compared to the 1.5 TSI four-cylinder from Volkswagen, it turns out to be more sparkling, and above all, more available at low revs, a guarantee of comfort in urban driving. With the Golf, the power only reaching over 2,000 rpm, it is almost essential to spin the clutch to get the car to take off. An inconvenience that forces you to play the gearbox - with the handling appreciable in one case as in the other - to restart the car when driving on a gas net in third, for example. Last advantage of the three-legged tricolor: it is expressed less noisily than the engine of the German compact with a more sporty temperament, and consumes slightly less. On board the “old” 308, one quickly finds one's bearings. Once you get used to the small steering wheel - which is not suitable for all sizes since it can hide certain driving information - the fewer controls are more intuitive. To be honest, they are also more familiar to us since 2013. Because it is worth highlighting the undeniable progress of the Golf in terms of ergonomics, it must be recognized that this eighth generation nevertheless lends itself to criticism. This is the case with the central screen, the headlight control to the left of the steering wheel, or the small paver grouping the functions of air conditioning, driving aids and the automatic parking system. Ditto for the keys located at the bottom of the central screen allowing you to manage the temperature (right / left) and the volume of the radio, which are not very visible, too small and sensitive. If the Peugeot is displayed at a price slightly higher, its comfort equipment is also more provided (keyless access, alloy wheels, 100% LED lighting, rear view camera ...) and can be supplemented, as on our model test, a nice leather upholstery not offered on the Golf. Finally, on the trunk side, the 308 offers an additional 40 liters under the luggage cover. Verdict: Technically more up-to-date, slightly more comfortable and with a larger interior, the Golf stands out against an aging 308, which remains even more pleasant to drive. Return match at the end of the year, with the third generation of 308.
  6. US President Donald Trump has ordered the creation of a "National Garden of American Heroes" to defend what he calls "our great national story" against those who vandalise statues. His executive order gives a new task force 60 days to present plans, including a location, for the garden. He insists the new statues must be lifelike, "not abstract or modernist". A number of US statues have been pulled down since the police killing of an unarmed black man, George Floyd in May. Monuments linked to the slave-owning Confederacy during the Civil War in America have been especially targeted in the nationwide protests ignited by the death of Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after a white police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes. President Trump has defended Confederate symbols as a part of American heritage. In a speech to mark Independence Day at Mount Rushmore, he condemned the anti-racism protesters who toppled statues. He said America's national heritage was being threatened - an emotive appeal for patriotism. The garden - to be in a place of natural beauty near a city - is to be opened by 4 July 2026, Mr Trump's executive order says. State authorities and civic organisations are invited to donate statues for it. President Trump's choice of historical figures to be commemorated in the garden is likely to be controversial. The list of "historically significant" Americans includes predictably Founding Fathers like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, but also frontiersman Davy Crockett, evangelical Christian preacher Billy Graham, Ronald Reagan and World War Two heroes Douglas MacArthur and George Patton. There will also be statues of African American civil rights campaigners Harriet Tubman and Martin Luther King Jr. Americans celebrate the French Marquis de Lafayette as a national hero Controversially, Mr Trump includes non-Americans who "made substantive historical contributions to the discovery, development, or independence of the future United States". So the garden can have statues of Christopher Columbus, Junipero Serra and the Marquis de Lafayette. Columbus and the Spanish Catholic missionary Serra are far from heroic for Native Americans, because their "discoveries" led to the enslavement and exploitation of indigenous people by white colonists. America's early economic development also relied on slavery - which makes some of the traditional national heroes dubious for African Americans. The Marquis de Lafayette, a French aristocrat and military commander, led American troops in key battles against the British in the American Revolution. Symbolic response to protesters Donald Trump's proposed garden offers insight into who the president considers worthy of celebration. There are America's founders, joined by 19th-Century frontiersmen glorified in old Disney television dramas, World War Two generals and slavery abolitionists. Republican Party icon Ronald Reagan is the only president from the past 150 years, and Antonin Scalia, whose primary legal legacy is penning scathing conservative dissents to majority opinions, is the only Supreme Court justice. It's the kind of list that could largely be gleaned from grade-school history books of the 1950s, an era that suffuses the president's politics of nostalgia for "American greatness". In his Mount Rushmore speech, the president lashed out at those he accused of wanting to destroy the nation's cultural heritage. The garden is his symbolic response. At a time when the president is defending statues that honour Civil War rebels who fought US soldiers, Mr Trump is making an affirmative case for those who he believes embody the US values of patriotism, inspiration and courage. While many Americans are now reviewing US history with a critical eye, the garden would be a glossy tribute to the president's view of American "exceptionalism". It will surely antagonise the president's critics, who see him as a divisive and ill-suited arbiter of American values. It also portends an autumn presidential campaign of pitched cultural warfare. What did President Trump say in his speech? It was a highly symbolic setting for the speech: Mount Rushmore, in South Dakota, features the carved faces of four US presidents, two of whom - George Washington and Thomas Jefferson - were slave-owners. It also stands on land that was taken from the indigenous Lakota Sioux by the US government in the 1800s. President Trump railed against the "cancel culture" of those who toppled monuments during recent anti-racism protests. He condemned those who targeted statues as "angry mobs". Mr Trump accused protesters of "a merciless campaign to wipe out our history, defame our heroes, erase our values, and indoctrinate our children". "We will not be silenced," he said. The president, who has been heavily criticised for his handling of the US coronavirus pandemic, made little reference to the disease that has now claimed almost 130,000 American lives. The US recorded its largest single-day rise in coronavirus infections on Friday, bringing the total to more than 2.5 million - the most of any country. Masks and social distancing were not mandatory at the Mount Rushmore event, despite warnings by health officials. Native American groups criticised Mr Trump's visit for posing a health risk, and for celebrating US independence in an area that is sacred to them. Many Native Americans do not celebrate Independence Day because they associate it with the colonisation of their tribal homelands and the loss of their cultural freedoms.
  7. Microsoft’s own cloud storage service not synced, but sunk by latest upgrade Windows 10 May 2020 Update breaking OneDrive functionality for some users is an issue we’d already seen widely reported online, and now Microsoft has admitted there is a problem with its cloud storage service – and let us know that it’s working on a fix (while providing a couple of possible workarounds for the time being). The problem, as described by Microsoft, affects older Windows 10 PCs or those devices which have apps installed that use old legacy file system filter drivers (optional drivers). If you’re hit by the bug, you’ll see an error message – ‘OneDrive cannot connect to Windows’ – when trying to use the cloud storage service within Windows 10. For those unfortunates who have upgraded to the May 2020 Update and are affected, Microsoft says that it is “working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release”. Indeed, it seems that some Microsoft support representatives have been saying that the company is working on a fix since a couple of weeks back, so we can keep our fingers crossed that a resolution will arrive soon. That said, this OneDrive bug has apparently been hanging around since the May 2020 Update was in early testing, seemingly with plenty of complaints from Windows Insiders that evidently went unheeded throughout the preview process. That’s pretty embarrassing for Microsoft of course, but if its long-standing nature indicates that this OneDrive fail really is a seriously thorny flaw, it might not be fixed in the near future. Still, that’s all just speculation. The better news is that Microsoft has a couple of possible workarounds for affected users, which are as follows. The software giant notes that Windows 10 may recommend running a troubleshooter to resolve this issue, and that you should allow this to do its magic if it comes up as an automatic recommendation. More details on how to follow that process through – it’s fairly lengthy – are provided in Microsoft’s support document. Otherwise, if the troubleshooter doesn’t kick in, you can try the following manual workaround. Firstly click on the Start button and type the following Now right click (or long press) on the Command Prompt app and select ‘Run as administrator’. Next, type (or copy and paste) the following command into the Command Prompt windows: Reboot your machine after the command has finished. To verify Files On-Demand is still enabled, right click (or long press) on the OneDrive icon in the notification area, then select Settings. In the Settings dialog, verify that ‘Save space and download files as you use them’ is enabled, then click the OK button. If you are using more than a single OneDrive account within the app or are using both OneDrive Personal and OneDrive for Business, you will need to repeat the last two steps for each account. That’s all you need to do, and the OneDrive app should now be running as expected with no errors (hopefully, anyway).
  8. Turn your Raspberry Pi into a powerful, programmable microscope. With the release of the Raspberry Pi HQ camera came a new world of interchangeable lenses for Raspberry Pi photography. For the most part these lenses were for general photography projects, but a new $28 lens ($49.80 with dedicated stand) on sale via Pimoroni offers the chance to view the microscopic world around us. Measuring 4.21 inches (107 mm ) high and1.53 inches (39 mm) wide, the all-black Pimoroni Microscope Lens screws directly into the Raspberry Pi HQ camera, fitting snugly over the sensor using a CS/C adapter. It cannot be used with any other type of Raspberry Pi camera module. A knurled adjustment ring provides a means to alter the magnification factor from 0.12 to 1.8x, approximately 60 to 900x magnification. The Pimoroni Microscope Lens’s focus is set by moving the lens nearer to or farther from the target, which requires a steady hand or a microscope stand, which can be bought as a bundle with the lens. In our tests we used the bundled microscope stand to ensure that our images were sharp. Image Quality of Pimoroni Microscope Lens The orange highlight shows the visible area of screen at the lowest magnification level. The red highlight shows the visible area at the maximum magnification level. (Image credit: Pimoroni / Raspberry Pi Foundation) After enabling the camera in raspi-config, we took our first picture, and all we saw was a black image. To use this lens you must first set the zoom level using the knurled ring, then set the focus by moving the lens nearer / farther from the target. If you are using the microscope stand, as we did, there is a large knurled black dial which can be used for fine tuning the focus. This will take some time to get right and using the terminal command raspistill -k will provide a live preview that enables you to set the zoom and focus. Picture quality is superb, largely due to the 12.3 megapixel Sony IMX477R sensor on the Raspberry Pi HQ Camera, but the lens provides a clear and distortion free image. Our test images were all captured at the maximum resolution available: 4056 x 3040 and the level of detail is amazing considering the cost of this lens. In our tests we set the lens to maximum magnification and placed an WS2812 “NeoPixel” LED measuring 5 mm x 5mm in the center of the image. At this level of magnification we were able to view the circuit pathways of the WS2812 chip at the heart of the LED, a chip that measures 1 mm x 1.3mm. We also recorded a 1080p video of moving around a 2-pence coin and the results were equally impressive. Uses Cases and Total Cost The Pimoroni Microscope Lens would be ideal for home or school science lessons, enabling the experiment to be recorded to the Raspberry Pi with just a few lines of code. The lens also lends itself to electronics projects, especially SMD soldering with small surface mount components. To use the Pimoroni Microscope Lens, you’ll need any Raspberry Pi model. Even a Raspberry Pi Zero W ($10) would be ideal for this project. The HQ Camera is $50, and the lens and stand pack is $49.80. All of this comes to $109.80 for a kit which can capture greater than 4K images, and 1080P video. If you don’t care about Raspberry Pi, HDMI microscopes are available from under $100 for a basic unit which will capture 1080P images and video. However, Raspberry Pi enthusiasts will most likely have some or most of the components to build this one on hand so their cost will be less. Bottom Line This Pimoroni Microscope Lens is a great tool for exploring everything from circuit boards to everyday objects. However, you’ll definitely want the optional stand. The fact that it connects to a Raspberry Pi means that this lens is part of a great setup in the classroom or home workshop and one that you can program or even control remotely.
  9. Genre: Third-person pointing correction Engine: Amazon Lumberyard Developer: Relentless Studios Published by: Amazon Game Studios Director: DJ Stiner, Fitzgerald Tre, Houck Brady, Eric Flanum, Ackley James, Jason Stanzel, Colin Johanson Publishers: Relentless Studios, Amazon Game Studios Editor's note: Three years after its initial release on PC, Undertale has found its way to the Nintendo Switch--and of course, the game is every bit as charming, challenging, and harrowing as it was the first time around. Undertale may seem like a straightforward retro-style RPG, but it subverts player expectations every chance it gets, which never gets stale because of clever writing and an evocative chiptune soundtrack. Thankfully, it plays just as well as it does on other platforms without any performance hitches or bugs after putting about four hours into this version. Like its console counterparts, you can fill the screen with an adaptive border that thematically fits with the location you're in (Undertale plays in a 4:3 aspect ratio). Dodging enemy attacks in the bullet hell-style defensive phase in combat works just as well with the Joy-Con analog sticks. Undertale isn't afraid to break convention, and because it does so in a way that's thoughtful and humorous throughout, the result is an emotional rollercoaster that fills us with determination. -- Michael Higham, 14 September 2018 [We have updated the score to reflect our experience with the Nintendo Switch version, in addition to the PC, Mac, and PS4 versions. The original review follows below.] Undertale's opening cinematic hints at a cliche RPG where you awake in a mysterious world and embark on a journey in hopes of returning to your normal life. Despite the familiar premise, you quickly discover that looks can be deceiving. While many games can take a heavy-handed approach to teaching you the basics, Undertale does so in a way that not only introduces you to the tone of the game, but teaches you not to accept anything at face value. The first character you meet compels you to play nice, but as the cheerful music turns to sinister laughter and your new "friend" declares you an idiot, you get it: expect the unexpected. Undertale makes a name for itself with unusual storytelling techniques and combat mechanics, setting itself apart from the games it seems to imitate. It's also cleverly written and constantly subverts your expectations. There are so many wonderful experiences in store that are tempting to spoil, but to go into too much detail would ruin the element of surprise: one of Undertale's best assets. While it seems to be a game that's designed for RPG fans first and foremost, a lot of Undertale's jokes have universal appeal. A pair of comically incompetent skeletons regularly spout puns and jokes while attempting--and failing--to halt your progress, and the social ineptitude exhibited by one character when they try to express their feelings for another is a regular source of laughter. With clever characterization and unexpected responses to actions we've been conditioned to view as predictable, Undertale elicits laughter and delight with ease. You're encouraged to stop and engage with NPCs rather than charge through the story, and you should, because the varied and entertaining cast of monsters reveal valuable information about the wider world. This quality isn't unique, but here, it leads to unusual exchanges that are filled with great quips, simultaneously poking fun at games and human nature alike. The script tip-toes into parody, but an air of earnest thought lifts it above mere mockery. Silly as it can be, Undertale delivers poignant observations that challenge the status-quo. It's also the sort of experience that encourages you to come back for a second or third round. This is especially true because, over the course of roughly five hours, you make a lot of decisions that impact the world around you. The importance of choice is often felt during combat, which lets you pick between fighting or talking your way out of conflict. Sometimes the secret to winning is a little bit of love. Trying to pacify opponents is a far more rewarding experience than simply fighting, and its a process that's unique to each type of enemy. To earn their favor, you have to analyse an enemy's behavior and figure out the right course of action. In one scenario, you can attempt to befriend a violent dog, in another, you might want to cheer up a ghost with low self-esteem; your success will depend on your ability to empathize and react. Navigating social puzzles is a refreshing change of pace for what seems like traditional combat, and the variety of distinct, entertaining enemies you engage with helps stave off a problem that's all-too-common in other RPGs: repetitive random encounters. Because not all enemies are easily wooed, you eventually need to defend yourself regardless if you intend to fight or not. Undertale handles this with a quirky mechanic that feels out of place at first, but it eventually grows on you because it makes combat engaging and unpredictable in a good way. Enemy attacks appear as waves of projectiles that fly within a square pen, and as they fly by, you have to steer a small heart icon out of their flightpath to avoid taking damage. It's an unusual mechanic, but it's simple to understand and rewarding in the sense that it lets your reflexes-rather than statistics or dice rolls--dictate the outcome of a fight. The variety of distinct, entertaining enemies you engage with helps stave off a problem that's all-too-common in other RPGs: repetitive random encounters. Even within combat, Undertale layers on the humor. Sometimes you're dodging bullets, but you also need to watch out for frogs, arms with flexing biceps, and even the tears of a depressed opponent. Linking the shape, size, and behavior of projectiles with enemies' personalities keeps things challenging, and opens the door for even more laughs as you fend off absurd attacks. It would be a crime not to mention Undertale's soundtrack, which is loaded with beautiful bit-based melodies that blend perfectly with the action on-screen. Each boss gets its own theme song, which do a great job of enhancing their particular personality. These tracks in particular bring energy and vigor, putting you on the edge of your seat as you try to fight or befriend your opponent. Outside of battle, tracks set the appropriate mood, too, from the quirky jingle in Temmie Village, to somber melodies that build tension near the end of the game. Regardless of its retro style, Undertale's soundtrack has timeless appeal and is great at evoking emotions. Without spoiling the many ways it will screw with your expectations, it isn't possible to truly capture how wonderful Undertale is. You wouldn't know it with a passing glance, but it's one of the most progressive and innovative RPGs to come in a long time, breaking down tradition for the sake of invention, with great success. 10. The reasons for persistent hair fall can be hereditary, an imbalance of hormones, diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus, syphilis or telogen effluvium, nutritional status, environmental toxicants and certain medications. Persistent hair fall can be an issue for many people, both young and old. Before we share the ways to fix this problem though, let’s understand the hair cycle. The human hair undergoes three main stages of the hair cycle: the anagen, catagen, and telogen phases. During the anagen stage, the hair grows. Then the transitional stage, called the catagen phase, comes in - this is when the hair stops growing. The telogen stage is the resting phase for the hair and also when it is released from the hair follicle and starts to fall. The reasons for persistent hair fall can be hereditary, an imbalance of hormones, diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus, syphilis or telogen effluvium (hair goes into the resting stage), nutritional status, environmental toxicants and certain medications. Hair fall can usually be controlled though. Here are five science-backed home remedies that can help prevent hair loss and promote hair growth: Amla Amla, also known as Indian gooseberry, is rich in nutrients and health-beneficial properties. Amla is rich in vitamin C, vitamin E, amino acids and antioxidants such as phytonutrients which help in strengthening the hair. Vitamin C helps in dealing with fungal infections of the scalp. You can either eat it, make a juice out of it or apply it directly to the scalp. How to use it: You can use 2 teaspoons of commercially available amla powder and mix it with lime juice, to make a smooth paste. Apply the paste on the hair and the scalp. Leave it on for 2 hours, then wash it off with shampoo and cool water. You can use this therapy twice a week. Coconut oil The lauric acid in coconut binds to the hair protein and penetrates in the hair shaft, thus protecting the hair from breakage at the root and strand. Massaging of coconut oil into the scalp promotes better blood flow and helps with the regrowth of hair. How to use it: You can massage your hair with coconut oil for 15-20 minutes and leave it for minimum an hour and maximum overnight. Wash your hair well with shampoo. You can do this thrice a week. Carrot Carrots have a high amount of beta-carotene, antioxidants, vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin E in it, all of which helps in fighting hair loss by improving the blood circulation and stimulating hair growth. Carrot juice also helps in preventing premature greying of hair. How to use it: Blend two carrots and make carrot juice. You can drink 100 ml of carrot juice on a regular basis. Aloe vera Aloe vera has been used for the treatment of an inflammatory skin condition, seborrheic dermatitis. It helps in soothing the itchy scalp and cleans up extra sebum. Excess sebum production can clog the hair follicles which prevents the growth of hair. How to use it: You can simply massage aloe vera gel on to your scalp and leave it for 30 minutes. You can then wash off the gel with cool water. Use this remedy three times a week. Eggs Eggs are filled with essential nutrients such as proteins, vitamin B12, iron, zinc and omega-6 fatty acids which promotes hair growth. Egg also helps in thickening and conditioning of hair. How to use it: You can add one egg and one tablespoon of coconut oil in a bowl and whisk it properly. Apply this mix on your scalp and hair and leave it for 30 minutes. Wash your hair with shampoo and cold water. Do not use warm water.
  11. The Audi e-tron is now entitled to its sporty version, whether in standard bodywork or sportback, with power peaking at 503 horsepower. Who says electric cars can't be sporty? As we have seen for some time, zero-emission models are gradually getting rid of their not always rewarding image to become more desirable, like the Tesla Model S and Model 3 Performance, or the new Porsche Taycan. From now on, it is Audi's turn to invest in this segment of electric sports, since the Ingolstadt brand is getting involved, by offering a new version of its e-tron SUV, soberly called S. A badge which now includes all engines, from petrol to diesel to electric, therefore, offering a wide choice to customers. These new variants should allow Audi to increase its sales of “clean” models, in order to lower its average emissions and thus, limit the impact of the fines planned for next year by the European Union, while offering attractive models. Available on the Audi e-tron standard and its sportback version, this variant S is distinguished first of all by some specific elements, and in particular its wheel arches enlarged by 23 mm compared to the classic model. The S Line pack comes here as standard, with its triangular air intakes located just below the lights, while the rear bumper is decorated with chrome, almost forgetting the absence of exhaust outlets. 20-inch rims complete the package, while a 21-inch wheel is optional, concealing black floating brackets that can be painted orange by slightly extending the check. On board, the presentation hardly changes compared to the standard version, although the atmosphere is logically a little more sporty. Among the specific elements, let us mention the brushed aluminum inserts which can be chosen in carbon, as well as the leather and Alcantara upholstery. Over 500 horses boosted In the bowels of this new Audi e-tron S, no less than three electric motors are responsible for sending power to the wheels, those at the rear in normal driving, and to the four when the pace accelerates or that the road conditions are more unstable. Moreover, this sports version enriches its endowment with a torque vectoring system, in order to compensate for the lack of mechanical differential and thus increase traction in curves in particular. With 503 horsepower and 970 Nm of torque, the electric SUV is able to achieve 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.5 seconds, thanks to a punctual peak in power for 8 seconds. The maximum speed is limited to 210 km / h. For its part, the 95 kWh battery is identical to the standard version, and offers a range of 360 km on the e-tron and 365 km on the sportback version. As a reminder, the Audi e-tron 55 can cover 415 km on a single charge. The launch of these two bodies is planned for the fall, while prices are already known for the French market. It will therefore cost € 96,600 for the classic version and € 99,200 for the sportback version, both of which are unfortunately not eligible for the ecological bonus, due to their entry ticket exceeding € 60,000. The standard Audi e-tron is also not eligible, with a call price of € 83,880.
  12. China has appointed a hard-line figure as head of its new security agency in Hong Kong. Zheng Yanxiong is best known for his role in dealing with a protest over a land dispute in the southern Chinese village of Wukan. The new agency, answering directly to Beijing, is being set up to enforce a draconian security law passed this week in Hong Kong. Opponents of the law say it erodes the territory's freedoms. The law targets secession, subversion and terrorism with punishments of up to life in prison. Several leading pro-democracy activists have stepped down from their roles and one of them, one-time student leader and local legislator Nathan Law, has fled the territory. Separately, one of 10 people arrested using the new law during protests on Wednesday has become the first to be charged under it. Hundreds were detained during the clashes. The motorcyclist, accused of riding into a group of police while carrying a flag calling for the liberation of Hong Kong, was charged with inciting secession and terrorism. Beijing has dismissed criticism of the law, saying it is necessary to stop the type of pro-democracy protests seen in Hong Kong during much of 2019. Hong Kong's sovereignty was handed back to China by Britain in 1997 and certain rights were supposed to be guaranteed for at least 50 years under the "one country, two systems" agreement But China has rejected complaints by the UK and other Western nations that it is in breach of these guarantees as interference in its internal affairs. What do we know about China's new appointees? Mr Zheng's most recent senior position was as secretary general of the Communist Party committee in the southern province of Guangdong. But he is best known as party boss in the Guangdong city of Shanwei when a protest by villagers in Wukan seeking compensation for land requisitioned by the government broke out in 2011. He famously criticised the villagers for talking to "a few rotten foreign media organisations" instead of the government about their grievances. "These media organisations will only be happy when our socialist county falls apart," he said in remarks broadcast on local TV. The unrest led to a rare concession by the authorities, with the direct election of a po[CENSORED]r local leader. However, five years later he was jailed for corruption and the protests were quashed. Though by then Mr Zheng was no longer in his Shanxei role, he was still a senior party official in Guangdong. Other appointments by Beijing include Luo Huining, who has been made adviser to Hong Kong's chief executive on the new security law. Mr Luo currently heads Beijing's liaison office in the territory. Veteran Hong Kong official Eric Chan will head the territory's national security commission. To understand Zheng Yanxiong you need to know about a Guangdong village called Wukan. In 2011, disaffected locals forcibly expelled government officials from the area, accusing the officials of grabbing their land in a series of corrupt deals with developers. A blockade ensued and, as part of a negotiated settlement to defuse tensions, the locals were given the right to elect their own council. It became a grass roots democratic exemption in China. Five years later, the residents - angry that no money had been paid for the stolen land - started marching in the streets again. The situation escalated after their elected leader was taken away by the authorities on what are thought to have been trumped up charges. The empowered locals were in charge of their own affairs and they believed they could achieve justice. But when the Communist Party became fed up with this rebellion it was over to senior cadre Zheng Yanxiong and others to deal with it. Hundreds of riot police were ordered in to seize control, making mass arrests and crushing the "Wukan experiment". Since then this Cantonese-speaking enforcer has moved up through the ranks with a reputation for doing whatever is necessary. Now he's in charge of a new security agency in Hong Kong which operates without any legal restraints whatsoever, and which no other agencies can touch. What is the security law? The law is wide-ranging, making inciting hatred of China's central government and Hong Kong's regional government offences. It also allows for closed-door trials, wire-tapping of suspects and the potential for suspects to be tried on the Chinese mainland. Acts including damaging public transport facilities - which often happened during the 2019 protests - can be considered terrorism. There are also concerns over online freedom as internet providers might have to hand over data if requested by police. What has the reaction been from overseas? US lawmakers have unanimously approved new Hong Kong-related sanctions, with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi saying the law amounted to a "brutal, sweeping crackdown against the people of Hong Kong, intended to destroy the freedoms they were promised". Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the passing of the law was a "clear and serious breach" of the 1985 Sino-British joint declaration. The UK has offered residency, and possible citizenship, to up to three million Hong Kongers in the wake of the law's implementation. Numerous others have also expressed strong concerns. Australia revealed that, like the UK, it was considering offering safe haven to Hong Kongers. China has responded by saying Hong Kong's affairs are "none of your business". However, Cuba - on behalf of 53 countries - welcomed the law at the United Nations Human Rights Council.
  13. Get the perfect antivirus app by considering these key factors There are a number of key factors you should consider when trying to pick out the ideal antivirus package for you. These include whether you want to pay any money for malware protection, and what your exact needs are. Have you got a lot of devices to cover? Do you have a family and need to keep your kids safe when they go online? Whatever the case, we’ll walk you through all the important considerations in this article. Quality antivirus engine An obvious primary consideration to ensure you get good protection from your antivirus app – which is clearly the point of installing it in the first place – is to make sure that it has a highly-rated antivirus engine. That’s the key part of the application used when scanning your PC and defending it from malware, and the better that engine is, the more likely that any given malware won’t be able to avoid its radar. How do you know which antivirus engines are good ones? Well naturally your first port of call should be to TechRadar's in-depth antivirus reviews. We get hands on with all the biggest names in the antivirus game and put them through their paces. You can also double check the ratings of the independent virus testing labs, AV-Test and AV-Comparatives, which provide detailed rankings of all the top antivirus performers (for Windows, Mac, and mobile phones). To pay, or not to pay? Another important decision you’ll need to make is whether you’re willing to fork out any money for antivirus protection. There are plenty of perfectly viable free antivirus products out there from all the big-name vendors, and you don’t have to pay anything to get robust protection from malware, and other extras besides. So why would you buy a paid product? Well, premium versions often offer perks in terms of extra features that keep you even more secure online, and some folks may find these highly useful. We’ll come onto that shortly. However, remember that a free antivirus can protect you just fine. Even Windows Defender – which is a no-effort freebie given that it comes included with Windows 10 – can protect you well enough on a basic level.. How much protection do you need? If you just need core antivirus protection and basic defenses against malware, perhaps only for one PC (or just a couple of devices), then you can buy a baseline antivirus product (or get a free one as discussed above). However, if you want to get more security features, and a greater depth of protection from all the nastiness you’ll find online, then you’ll need to stump up some cash (and more of it – although not necessarily a lot more) to get an all-singing all-dancing internet security suite. These suites build on the basic antivirus features, coming with all sorts of security extras, and they’re ideal if you want protection not just for yourself, but for your whole family. This is because those extra security features often include the likes of parental controls to keep kids safe (and monitor their online activities in some cases). They also cater for more devices than basic antivirus products, and often feature cross-platform support, meaning not just Windows PCs are covered, but also Macs, and indeed mobile devices. So if you have a lot of devices, and particularly if that’s because you have a number of family members all with different bits of hardware, a top-of-the-line internet security suite will likely be your best bet. Maximum security Those wanting the most cast-iron protection online may want to look beyond even a flagship internet security suite, to find one which includes a bundled VPN. A VPN gives you an extra level of security and privacy online, and some of the big-name suites come with this feature integrated (Norton 360 does, as well as Avast Ultimate, to cite a couple of quick examples). That’s not only very convenient, but will save you money compared to buying both a security suite and VPN separately – sometimes a lot of money. Another extra point of security to bear in mind is that some flagship security suites will also include integrated online storage, which can allow you to back up files to the cloud. Keeping a cloud backup of your data, and a local backup on an external drive – at least one of each – is always a good idea to keep your data secure in case of a disaster. If you haven’t already got a cloud storage locker of some kind, this could also influence your purchasing decision. Other factors Another consideration is whether you are a computing novice, or a tech-savvy type. If the latter, look for an antivirus which has plenty in the way of under-the-hood options, allowing you to make tweaks to all sorts of settings and run the app the way you want to. Novices, on the other hand, will want to get themselves an antivirus which is fire-and-forget, requiring little interaction from the user, and benefiting from a simple and clean interface. The PC (or phone) you’re intending to run the antivirus on may also have a bearing on what you go for. If you have an old and ailing piece of hardware which is starting to struggle in terms of performance, you want to pick an antivirus app with a light impact on system resources. To be honest, it’s ideal to choose an application which is light (or at least not heavy) with its system footprint no matter what PC you’re using, but it’s particularly important if it’s an older, slower machine. Again, check out our antivirus reviews where we evaluate any potential system slowdown caused by the various products out there. How to choose the best antivirus for you To sum up, then, consider whether you want a free or paid app, and how many extra features you need – and perhaps whether you’d like extra security via a cost-effective bundled VPN, or even integrated online storage for backups. Make sure that you pick a package which is suitably user-friendly and streamlined, or has a ton of options and potential tweaks, depending on your preference here. Our guide to the best antivirus software is also a very helpful resource for making that final decision (it covers paid, free and even business-orientated apps).

  15. Aorus coolers with ice in their veins. Aorus Liquid Cooler 240 Overclocking the Core i9-10900K and keeping the processor's operating temperature under check could prove to be a difficult task. Have no fear, though, as Gigabyte thinks that the brand's lineup of Aorus liquid coolers can get the job done. Gigabyte demostrated the Aorus liquid cooler's prowess by submitting an overclocked Core i9-10900K for some Prime95 beating for over 30 minutes. The manufacturer overclocked the Core i9-10900K to 5.2 GHz on all ten cores. CPU-Z and HWiNFO64 reported voltages of 1.392V and 1.423V, respectively. During the stress test, the processor pulled over 320W, according to Gigabyte. Gigabyte offers the Aorus liquid cooler in 240mm, 280mm and 360mm flavors. In the press release, the company didn't specify which model was used for the test. The temperatures ranged from 85 degree Celsius to 96 degree Celsius with a Tjunction max of 115 degree Celsius. Gigabyte has told us that the brand tests a significant amount of samples so this particular Core i9-10900K isn't cherry-binned to make the cooler look good. Intel Core i9-10900K @ 5.2 GHz All of Gigabyte's Aorus liquid coolers are based of an Asetek design with a copper baseplate. To add a bit of bling, Gigabyte equips the pump with a little 60 x 60mm circular LCD display that displays useful information, such as the processor's frequency, temperature and the fan's speed. Like many liquid coolers, the radiator for the Aorus liquid cooler is made of aluminium. The radiators come in the 240mm, 280mm and 360mm sizes, depending on which model you pick up. Gigabyte's own Aorus-branded PWM fan is in charge of cooling. The 280mm model comes with two 140mm fans while the 240mm and 360mm models feature two and three 120mm fans, respectively. Addressable RGB lighting is present on both sizes. The 120mm fan spins up to 2,500 RPM to provide a static pressure of 3.51 mmH2O at a maximum noise level of 39.5 dBA. The 140mm fan, on the other hand, tops out at 2,300 RPM, boasts an impressive static pressure of 5.16 mmH2O and a maximum noise level of 44.5 dBA. Gigabyte backs the Aorus liquid cooler with a limited three-year warranty. The 240mm model retails for $189.99, while the 280mm and 360mm models go for $214.99 and $229.99, respectively.
  16. Gradual rollout to testers has begun with Windows 10’s latest preview build Windows 10 has witnessed the release of a new preview build which showcases a big change that we’ve heard about previously; namely a new look for the Start menu, alongside some other tweaks like altering the way Alt-Tabbing works in certain cases. Windows 10 build 20161 has been released to testers in the ‘dev channel’ (the new name for the fast ring), although these new features won’t come to every Windows Insider straightaway, and it’ll be a gradual rollout with only a small number of testers involved at first – so you may have to wait a little while to see this in your preview build. The centerpiece here is the new Start menu which has previously been teased, and as you can see from the images Microsoft provided, it’s not a massive change initially – although more work is doubtless in the pipeline – but it does make the interface look cleaner and more uniform Live tiles have been altered so they aren’t such a hotchpotch of different colors, and they now all carry the same color background for a uniform appearance which matches whether you’re running a light or dark theme (in the blog post describing the changes, Microsoft notes that you can apply an accent color if you wish). The backgrounds of the icons on the Start menu’s app list have also been removed for a cleaner overall look. The changes are good, we think, and previous feedback online has been positive about them too, but as we already mentioned, there’s likely further work to be done – and it will be interesting to see exactly what else Microsoft has planned. Note that the new Start menu in build 20161 isn’t tied to any particular version of Windows 10; as Microsoft clarifies, this is a build from its Active Development Branch. In other words, we don’t know when or with which update we’ll witness the debut of the new Start menu, but the smart money is on H1 2021 (given that the update due for later in 2020 is a minor one with no big introductions, just like the November 2019 Update was at the end of last year). Tabs aplenty Build 20161 also changes the way Alt-Tab works, the function which allows you to quickly switch between the windows you have open, but the tweak only relates to Microsoft Edge. Instead of an Edge window being considered one task for switching purposes, now each tab open in Edge is displayed separately and can be Alt-Tabbed between; so if you’ve got a few tabs open, you’ll easily be able to switch between them using Alt-Tab. If you have a lot of tabs open, mind, then things will doubtless become rather cluttered and confusing – but fortunately, Microsoft has included the option to turn this feature off (or limit the amount of tabs displayed when Alt-Tabbing). Like the Start menu, this functionality is also only rolling out to a small subset of testers initially, so again you may not see it straightaway. Further note that you need to be running the Dev or Canary build of Microsoft Edge to be able to use this, as well as preview build 20161. Microsoft promises that more ‘productivity enhancements’ will be coming to Edge, so that sounds like we can expect the browser to be further pushed within Windows 10, which is no great surprise. Remember that Microsoft is currently in the midst of a wide-reaching campaign to persuade folks to switch their browser to Edge, with all manner of ads popping up here and there, including with Windows 10 search (and Microsoft is frankly running the risk of this getting pretty annoying). Anyhow, a few other more minor changes arrived with build 20161. They include a more personalized taskbar for those setting up Windows 10 using their Microsoft account, whereby the OS will, for example, put the Your Phone app on the taskbar by default for those who have a linked Android smartphone. Notifications have also been tweaked to show the relevant app icon along the top, along with an ‘x’ icon top-right to make dismissing the notification an easy process.
  17. Initial release date: January 25, 2019 Mode: Single video game Developer: Capcom Genre: Survival Horror Platforms: Playstation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows Nominations: The Game Award for Game of the Year, The Game Award for The Best Audio Design and more Reliving familiar frights can often make for a less-than-exciting horror experience. But with the remake of Resident Evil 2, Capcom shows respect for the original while also going to great lengths to give the macabre atmosphere and tense gameplay a noticeable upgrade. In doing so, this revamp of the classic survival horror game shows that the series can still offer a terrifying experience like no other. You once again play as either Leon Kennedy or Claire Redfield. A viral outbreak has unleashed hordes of zombies and other grotesque monsters upon Raccoon City, leading to a series of dangerous and nightmare-inducing encounters for the two characters. While both protagonists' storylines have similar plots and take place in the same locations, there are different supporting characters and unique challenges in each that set the two playthroughs apart. In traditional Resident Evil fashion, you're tasked with surviving through the night and overcoming the nightmarish creatures and devious puzzles found throughout the infested streets of the city, the tight, dimly lit halls of the Police Station, and in the subterranean passages below. RE2 is a great mix of the understated survivalist approach from the original games and the tactile, reflex-oriented gameplay from more recent entries. It's very much a game about escalation; as your resources dwindle and the monsters become fearsome and more elaborate, the pressure is always mounting as the story progresses, and each moment feels just a bit more desperate than the last. Even the smallest of victories can feel like major wins in RE2, and you'll often find yourself onto the next struggle before you know it. While those who played the original game will enter with an idea of what's to come, the remake does a lot to refresh certain encounters and locations. Though many locales and their layouts are similar--save for the addition of a brand-new area and a new monster to deal with--the events therein are new. Jump scares don't trigger when you expect them to, or a room that once spelled certain doom in your head is now a safe haven--but then the question arises: if this room is safe, which room is the real dangerous one? Early Resident Evil games have a reputation for being melodramatic, often unintentionally, but the RE2 remake a more serious tone that makes for a more evocative story. While there is still the undercurrent of the hokey tone from the classics, with the characters cutting the tension with humor when appropriate, the remake's narrative is far more convincing, propped up by some impressive writing and strong performances that help convey urgency and despair. This is especially evident during the more quiet moments, when the protagonists will try to psych themselves up for what's to come. Even minor characters are given additional substance in the remake, with poignant moments given to the doomed police lieutenant Marvin Branagh and gun shop owner Robert Kendo. Both Claire and Leon have two different versions of the campaign, and after finishing the first run for one, you'll be prompted to start a follow-up with the other. Called Second Scenarios, they allow you to see the larger story from a different perspective. Both scenarios are totally isolated from another, and choices therein won't impact the other, but what makes these second runs worthwhile are the different encounters and sub-plots that don't occur in the first. It's a very interesting way to experience the narrative, and with four versions of the campaigns between the two leads--with the first two averaging 12-15 hours--you constantly uncover new details and events that weren't present in the previous playthroughs. Resident Evil 2's more serious tone is further enhanced by the renewed, fantastically atmospheric presentation, which gives familiar details from the classic game more of a pronounced look and feel. Moving away from the static camera angles of the original, everything has been redesigned with over-the-shoulder gameplay in mind, giving more of a palpable and invasive sense of dread when exploring. This is heightened even more by the impeccable audio and visual design of the game, creating an eerie, isolating vibe throughout. In a number of cases, you'll only have the illumination of your flashlight as you walk the dark hallways of the bloody and ruined police station, with the ambient rain and distant monster sounds ramping up the tension. You rarely feel safe in RE2, even when you actually are. The remake's impressive level of detail is consistently noticeable, but especially so during gorey moments. These gruesome encounters channel the same macabre and staccato approach from the classics, but are now honed through the visual luster of modern rendering and animation. As the zombies are the one constant threat throughout, you quickly become accustomed to seeing flesh chip away as you fire off pistol shots, along with watching the undead torn in half by well-placed shotgun blasts. Though RE2 easily proves to be the goriest game of the series, it never comes off as excessive, and the grizzly details all serve to highlight the grim circumstances of the desperate situation. Resident Evil 2's more serious tone is further enhanced by the renewed, fantastically atmospheric presentation... At the beginning, your meager selection of weapons doesn't seem like a match for the game's most intimidating horrors, but there are means available that can give you the upper hand in a lopsided fight. In addition to dismembering enemies with well-aimed shots hindering zombies' speed and offense, you can barricade certain windows to block ravenous undead from entering from outside. While many of these options are simply a temporary solution to a long-term problem, which can make it seem like they're not all that worth taking advantage of, they are helpful in a pinch. While you will no doubt settle into tactics that work well, RE2 throws in some fresh challenges. In one of the game's more tense encounters, you cross paths with the Tyrant, a hulking presence whose footsteps echo throughout the environment. Though it was a serious foe shown in small doses in the original, this imposing force of nature is now more of a persistent threat that actively stalks you during key periods in the story. Simply ducking into another room isn't enough, as it'll quickly follow you in to keep the chase going--similar to the RE3's Nemesis in that regard. If you manage to create enough distance and it loses line of sight, it'll disengage, but will remain lurking throughout the halls. With this dynamic, the Tyrant also makes the common foes you've gotten a handle of become genuine threats once again. As you find yourself trying to stay focused on the stalking figure, it's all too easy to round a corner and run into a group of zombies. Though the Tyrant offers a nerve-wracking surprise during some of these key moments, which makes the feeling of getting the best of it all the more satisfying, there are other times when it can disrupt Resident Evil 2's pacing. This is especially frustrating when you're simply trying to acquire an item or solve a puzzle in a room that the Tyrant and zombies frequent. What should be tense encounters can sometimes become annoying exercises in trying to lure it away, and in some cases it comes off like you're taking advantage of the Tyrant's rather limited AI to do just that. The Tyrant can overstay its welcome, but in most cases, its presence is a constant reminder of the looming threat throughout the game. While RE2 often keeps things serious, it's not all doom and gloom. In addition to occasional references that break the tension, there's also a suite of unlockable content available to the delight of RE fans, including the classic RE2 outfits for both Leon and Claire. After completing the campaign for both characters, you'll unlock a set of bonus modes starring fan-favorites Hunk and Tofu, the later of which is a sentient knife-wielding block of coagulated soy. Both of these extra modes take you on timed gauntlets battling through many intense encounters, with Tofu's mode being the most difficult scenario in the entire game. They also allow for a chance to cut loose against hordes of monsters without the worry of the larger survival-horror mechanics during the main game. Resident Evil 2 is not only a stellar remake of the original, but it's also simply a strong horror game that delivers anxiety-inducing and grotesque situations, topping some of the series' finest entries. But above all, the remake is an impressive game for the fact that it goes all-in on the pure survival horror experience, confidently embracing its horrifying tone and rarely letting up until the story's conclusion. Though Resident Evil 2 has its roots firmly in the past, it reworks the familiar horrors into something that feels brand new and all its own. 20. Ambiguity during this transitional period Whether you're involved with cloud services on a local or international level, or otherwise run a businesses connected to suppliers and consumers outside of the UK, Brexit will, of course, have a drastic effect on a broad array of business functions. In many cases there is some ambiguity as to how this transitional period will specifically apply to businesses. However, GDPR is one of the more clear cut cases. In short, EU GDPR will no longer apply directly to UK businesses after the transition period (January 2021). However, in spite of this, UK organisations will still have to comply with its requirements beyond 2020. This is because the DPA 2018 enacts the EU GDPR’s requirements into UK law, meaning that functionally we will have ‘UK GDPR’. Functionally, there is very little difference between the ‘UK GDPR’ and existing ‘EU GDPR’. Those already complying with the former will simply have to persist with their current business practices. Is there anything businesses still need to do to prepare for ‘UK GDPR’? While organisations already in compliance with GDPR are unlikely to need to change much to keep their online storage, websites, and business apps in compliance with legal practice, Brexit provides a good opportunity for them to review how they handle data. One area to keep an eye on is transfers of personal data as the various mechanisms approved for use in the EU will no longer automatically apply in the UK If you’re moving personal data between the UK, EU and other countries, there are still questions that the UK is working out and the best place to get official instructions is the ICO website. The issues surrounding GDPR post-Brexit highlight that it is fruitless to do GDPR on a localized basis. Instead, organisations should be looking to ensure their data compliance is to the highest possible standard. As such, when local legislation changes, businesses will not have to implement drastic reforms to stay in legal compliance. Moreover, it guarantees that their customers’ data is being protected to the best possible standard. How does data protection differ throughout the world? While there is a strong trend toward regulation across the globe, the differences remain significant. The European Economic Area and the handful of countries subject to the EU Commission’s adequacy decisions have adopted similar laws driven by the same principles. The rest of the world is not so homogeneous. Different priorities in business, politics, or culture lead to different data protection regimes. What challenges does this present for businesses? Businesses obviously dedicate time and effort to make sure their operations comply with existing and upcoming legal requirements in the markets where they operate. Most companies operating on a global scale have to make compromises as only a few of them have the resources to monitor 150+ different jurisdictions. It is feasible to analyze your key markets in depth but, for the rest of the world, it makes sense to build a data protection program based on a strict if not the strictest regulatory framework to ensure that you’re likely to pass the bar in most of your markets. Pipedrive started working towards GDPR compliance in early 2017 and since then the work done on this front has also paid off in non-EU markets, particularly in Canada, Australia and now, with the California Consumer Privacy Act, also in the U.S. Will standards be higher in the future? Inevitably, the data protection standards to which businesses are held will be higher in the future. As technologies for securing data become more sophisticated, so do those for gaining unauthorized access to such data. While this may make some of the practices of today obsolete, the only way to ensure that your organisation does not fall behind the curve is to stay at the cutting edge. By constantly holding your organisation to the highest standard, you will be minimizing any future outlay that may be needed. Should there be a global standard for data protection? Yes! Will there be one? Unlikely. Fundamental differences in various countries and cultures simply make the gap too great to bridge in the near future. In the meantime, companies can take the pragmatic approach of choosing a data protection and backup regime that is sufficiently strict to likely satisfy the requirements of most of their target markets and to build products and services that enable customers to make use of the liberties and opportunities granted to them and, at the same time, to remain compliant with the laws they are subject to.

  23. By converting to the plug-in hybrid, the BMW X3 highlights improved fuel economy and top performance with nearly 300 horsepower in total. Since last year, plug-in hybrid technology has arrived in droves within the BMW range, on low sedans, but also SUVs. Almost all segments are affected, from X1 to X5, via X3. It is precisely the latter that we tested in its xDrive30e version, constituting the new top of the range of the classic model, with the exception of the Motorsport versions. Now, thanks to the thermal / electric combination, it is the threshold of 300 horsepower that the Bavarian SUV touches while showing great promise on its technical sheet in terms of sobriety. It still had to be verified by means of a profile of various roads, mixing portions of town, countryside and motorway. For this test, we opted for the M Sport finish, close to the top of the range. The added value is cosmetic, the pilot suspension is not available for technical reasons related to the implementation of the hybrid system. Synonymous with a combined power of 292 horsepower, it combines the 184 horsepower 4-cylinder petrol engine and a 113 hp electric motor integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission. A different philosophy from the little brother X1, for which the electrical block takes place on the rear axle. With its status as a permanent all-wheel-drive model, the X3 offers reassuring behavior, without losing its playful tone. Thus, despite different technical choices, the two Bavarian SUVs evolve in unison in their ability to put hybrid technology at the service of driving pleasure. With precise steering and a well-balanced chassis, the X3 does not generate any discomfort, despite the large optional 20-inch rims. Not eligible for the bonus The thing to remember about this xDrive30e version is the breadth of its operation. On the one hand, you can feel your raging potential, released at the top of your lungs when you switch from Sport mode. On the other, we appreciate its discreet and sober evolution in zero emission mode. As a caveat, we can note the lack of lateral support for the seats, which remain comfortable on a long journey thanks to an adjustable lumbar support. Otherwise, the good surprise comes from the high level of soundproofing, reinforced by the soundproofing glazing included in the Comfort Pack. The first third of our route, with an urban profile, is the opportunity to engage the Max eDrive mode to verify that the real autonomy is well founded. After 35 km in a row in zero emissions, the test is validated. Dedicated to 100% electric driving, this mode should allow a plug-in hybrid vehicle to evolve without restriction in future low-emission urban areas. Subsequently, we switch to Auto eDrive, operating management between thermal and electrical using GPS data, while the Battery Control mode ensures the maintenance of the charge, or even reconstitutes it using the thermal engine. In addition to the raw consumption values, the driving data is transcribed in the form of a graph in the infotainment system, making it possible to assess energy management in real time. In the end, on a fairly demanding 105 km route, we covered 46 km in electric mode, with an 80% full battery at the start. Fuel consumption thus remained at a contained level, at 5.4 liters. As such, it is worth remembering that the interest of a plug-in hybrid vehicle lies in its ability to be regularly connected, otherwise the overweight of the hybrid system will cause unwanted overconsumption. To be recharged to 80%, our model requires 4:20 on a standard outlet and 2:34 on a 3.7 kW Wallbox. Due to hybridization, the X3 weighs 200 kg more on the scale, while its boot space is reduced by 100 liters. In M Sport uniform, it is displayed at 68,050 euros, but its access price is 59,600 euros. An all-electric version of 286 hp will be unveiled at the end of the year, giving the X3 the status of the first premium vehicle to have a range with four inputs (petrol, diesel, PHEV, 100% electric). BMW X3 xDrive30e review: our opinion Versatility is the key asset of this plug-in hybrid version. Fierce in sport mode, the Bavarian SUV can also be as gentle as a zero emission lamb. 24. Hundreds have been arrested as Hong Kong's national security law kicks in Hong Kong police have made their first arrests under a new "anti-protest" law imposed by Beijing, as crowds marked 23 years since the end of British rule. Ten people were held accused of violating the law, including a man with a pro-independence flag. About 360 others were detained at a banned rally. The national security law targets secession, subversion and terrorism with punishments up to life in prison. Activists say it erodes freedoms but China has dismissed the criticism. Hong Kong's sovereignty was handed back to China by Britain in 1997 and certain rights were supposed to be guaranteed for at least 50 years under the "one country, two systems" agreement. The UK has now said up to three million Hong Kong residents will be offered the chance to settle in the UK and ultimately apply for citizenship. On Wednesday, thousands gathered for the annual pro-democracy rally to mark the handover anniversary, defying a ban by authorities who cited restrictions on gatherings of more than 50 people because of Covid-19. Many residents worry the new law means the end of the "one country, two systems" principle Police used water cannon, tear gas and pepper spray on demonstrators. Seven officers were injured, including one officer who was stabbed in the arm by "rioters holding sharp objects", police said. The suspects fled and bystanders offered no help, they added. One of the 10 arrested under the new law, adopted in the wake of last year's widespread unrest, was holding a "Hong Kong Independence" flag. However, some Twitter users said the picture appeared to show a small "no to" written in front of the slogan. The man has not been identified, and it was not clear whether he would be prosecuted. The legislation has been condemned by numerous countries and human rights activists. UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab called the measures a "flagrant assault" on freedoms of speech and protest. The UK has also updated its travel advice on Hong Kong, saying there is an "increased risk of detention, and deportation for a non-permanent resident". US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said China had broken its promise to Hong Kong's people. But in Beijing, foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian urged countries to look at the situation objectively and said China would not allow foreign interference in its domestic affairs. Dominic Raab: China is in "clear and serious breach" of the Joint Declaration What does the new law say? Crimes of secession, subversion, terrorism and collusion with foreign forces are punishable by a minimum sentence of three years, with the maximum being life. It also says: Damaging public transport facilities - which often happened during the 2019 protests - can be considered terrorism Beijing will establish a new security office in Hong Kong, with its own law enforcement personnel - neither of which would come under the local authority's jurisdiction Inciting hatred of China's central government and Hong Kong's regional government are now offences under Article 29 The law can also be broken from abroad by non-residents under Article 38, and this could mean that foreigners could be arrested on arrival in Hong Kong Some trials will be heard behind closed doors Beijing will also have power over how the law should be interpreted, and not any Hong Kong judicial or policy body. If the law conflicts with any Hong Kong law, the Beijing law takes priority. Zhang Xiaoming, executive deputy director of Beijing's Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office said the law would not be applied to offences committed before it was passed and that suspects arrested in Hong Kong on charges of violating the law may be tried on the mainland. Chief Executive Carrie Lam, Hong Kong's pro-Beijing leader, said the law would "restore stability" and that it was "considered the most important development in relations between the central government and Hong Kong since the handover".
