  1. After an almost two year hiatus, Project Ghazi is set to return to screens and this time, it'll hopefully stay. It looks like Team Ghazi has been working quietly on the side since the summer of 2017. Now we not only have a release date but a new trailer to let us know that this is happening for real. Starring Sheheryar Munawar, Humayun Saeed and Syra Sharoz, the film is set to be Pakistan's first superhero action flick. The trailer shows new scenes as compared to the previous trailer and has a few throwbacks as well. As people who've seen the original - and can never forget it - we see a lot of the same shots but are hoping the post production, including the VFX work, editing and sound mixing, has been kicked up as much as it needed to be. And boy did it need to be. Project Ghazi, originally intended to release in July 2017, was pulled off screens right after its premiere when it failed to reach the standards it aimed for.At the original premiere audience members complained that they could barely hear the film's dialogues, while others were left confused about the storyline due to choppy editing. Sheheryar Munawar didn't bother attending the 2017 premiere, knowing what's in store, while Humayun Saeed walked out within 20 minutes of the screening. "I couldn't let this be the final product of Project Ghazi. The audience couldn't be shown this. How can people judge a movie that they couldn't even hear properly?" Humayun Saeed said about the original release at the time. Images got in touch with Sheheryar Munawar, who revealed that, "The issue of sound and sync have been sorted now. I've had a chat with the producer and the director and I think Humayun has been speaking to them on this front as well, so has Syra so I think between us three we have taken an interest and over a period of time kept in touch with them and this is a surety that we've gotten from the producer and the director that they have been working on it and from what I know, they have." "It's a year and a half's worth of work that I put into the project, there's a lot of blood, sweat and tears that went into this project and no matter what happened or will happen, as an actor, as an artist I feel it's only fair to the entire team and to myself that it sees the light of day. So yes, I am excited about the hard work that went into it and it's finally being showcased." "This time the team will be watching the film together soon. The actors have been busy with their other films." He added, "I was slightly upset because I felt to my fans and the audience it was slightly unfair last time, I hope this time the producer and the director can do justice to the film which I know they will because they've put in the hours." "With a film you can never expect how well the audience will respond. The most you can do is put in the hard work and pray for the best. It's been a long journey, we have had setbacks, we had to deal with it, it's been an emotional rollercoaster. We all made peace with it and we're excited about the film coming out, let's see the audiences' response." The film has now been slated for release on March 22, which is the same date for Nehr Ghar's debut project Laal Kabootar. What does that mean for both movies? We can only wait to know more. "I have high expectations from it right now. The trailer is looking good a lot better from last time, so let's hope for the best," said Sheheryar.
  2. Caracas are having their arms measured to estimate how malnourished they have become. They are among dozens who lined up to receive medical attention by volunteers in the capital this Sunday, as the government continues to block foreign aid desperately needed to help a starving po[CENSORED]tion and depleted hospitals. President Nicolas Maduro is still refusing to allow a warehouse full of emergency food and medicine in the Colombian border-town of Cucuta to enter the country, as he believes it is art of a US coup to topple him.
  3. Big data analytics outfit Splunk will no longer be big in Russia after the company confirmed plans to stop selling its wares there. Reflecting what Splunk referred to as "shifting priorities", neither it nor its resellers will be flinging software or services to organisations in Russia. Existing customers will keep getting support, but once those contracts run out, it's "do svidaniya, comrade". The announcement was light on detail regarding the thinking behind the decision, saying only that the company was focusing on the greatest return on investment for the business. Just like the vast majority of companies that continue to do business with Russia. Splunk's senior veep for global affairs, Lenny Stein, spoke at techUK's Data Ethics Summit in 2018, and the company reckoned data ethics are fundamental. "We are calling for more data literacy and responsible AI development," he said. "However, we are also proposing that organisations establish ethical practices as the norm." Flogging software to the Putin regime may not sit well with such noble statements. However, authoritarian governments haven't stopped the company gaining a foothold in China, where it has offices in Hong Kong, Beijing and an R&D site in Shanghai. Alternatively, Russian plans to chainsaw its internet links to the rest of the world (if the need arises) may have given Splunk's San Francisco-based HQ a bad case of the jitters. Splunk is all about slurping vast amounts of machine-generated data and analysing it, with AI and machine learning tools giving customers "actionable and predictive insights". Unless, it would seem, those customers are in Russia. The Register asked Splunk for the detail behind the reasons and the impact the departure could have on its bottom line, but the company has yet to reply. In its latest set of results for its third quarter of fiscal 2019, Splunk reported (PDF) total revenues of $481m, up 40 per cent on the same period last year, and a net loss of $55.7m, and forecast over $2bn in expected revenue over the coming year. Its latest investor filing cheerfully looked out to 2020 (when its CFO Dave Conte would be retiring) but did not mention that it would be pulling out of the 11th biggest economy in the world (by GDP and according to the World Bank) in the first part of 2019. ®
  4. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti benchmarks leaks are pouring in now that the media have got their hands on it. The graphics card which is expected to launch next week will be aimed at the mainstream audience with a price of $279 US. It seems like the benchmarks show that the card would be a good update for users who are currently running a GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Graphics Card With Turing GPU Benchmarked in AOTS – Has a 25% Performance Lead Over the GTX 1060 We have seen various benchmark leaks of the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti with the most recent one being in Final Fantasy XV which we covered here. Now we have more gaming results coming in from TUM APISAK over at Twitter who posted the GTX 1660 Ti benchmark results in Ashes of The Singularity. We have seen some results in this benchmark before at a more reasonable detail quality of High at 1080p resolution. RELATED NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Final Fantasy XV Pre-Release Benchmarks Leaked – Slightly Faster Than A GTX 1070 The new results were posted with the Crazy preset at 1080p resolution and the graphics card scores 4800 points with all the detail cranked up at HD resolution. Following are the results of the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti and other graphics cards: Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation Crazy (1080p) Score: RTX 2060 – 5500 GTX 1070 – 4900 GTX 1660 Ti – 4800 GTX 1060 – 3800 As you can see in the scores posted above, the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti is around 25% faster than the GeForce GTX 1060. It delivers about the same performance as the GeForce GTX 1070 while the RTX 2060 is 14% faster than the GTX 1660 Ti. The GeForce GTX 1660 TI is going to cost $279 US which if compared to the $379 US launch price of the GTX 1070, sounds like a pretty solid deal. The slower GTX 1060 had a price of $249 US with non-reference models set at a slightly higher price range. For $30 US over the GTX 1060, the GTX 1660 Ti pumps out around 20-25% more performance. The RTX 2060, on the other hand, is clearly faster than the lot with a price point of $349 US and plus for the custom models. There’s also the GeForce GTX 1660 (Non-Ti) which is said to be around 10% slower than the GTX 1660 Ti but would cost $229 US, lower than the GTX 1060 did. It will be another interesting solution but for now, we should wait for the final reviews to see how the new RTX-Less Turing GPUs would perform in games. RELATED NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 and GeForce RTX 2070 Sales Lower Than Expected, Gaming Revenue Down 45% – Crypto and Excess Channel Inventory Also To Blame NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 TI Specifications (What We Know So Far): The specifications for the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti include the Turing TU116-400-A1 GPU as its core. The new Turing GPU was pictured last week, showing a completely different die layout compared to the Turing TU106 GPU used on the RTX 2060 and RTX 2070 graphics cards. The core is packed with 1536 CUDA Cores, 96 texture units and clock speeds of 1500 MHz base and 1770 MHz boost. The card features 6 GB of GDDR6 VRAM that runs across a 192-bit bus interface. Interestingly, the memory is clocked at 12 Gbps compared to 14 Gbps on the RTX cards. This delivers a bandwidth of 288 GB/s which is higher than the 256 GB/s bandwidth on the GeForce GTX 1070. The card would have a TDP of 120W which would be similar to the GeForce GTX 1060 while offering a performance of the GeForce GTX 1070 so that sounds good from an efficiency perspective.Talking specifically about shading performance which will be the main technology and architecture feature of the GeForce GTX cards, it looks like we are looking at an average 50% improved shading performance per core compared to Pascal. This is not the overall performance increase but rather the rate at which Turing improves upon its predecessor in shader performance. Some leaks earlier showed a 20-30% increase in performance over the GTX 1060, but we will have to wait for more info to see the final performance results that arrive on 22nd February.
  5. Wheels. They’re delicate, they’re important and they’re probably the first thing on your car to have a scratch. They were never a good paint candidate because they’re such a crucial part of your car’s look. But since about 2010, chemical makers have been formulating…formulas that look great and are 100 percent temporary, the most famous of which is Plasti Dip. However, the company wasn’t birthed in 2010 when rattle cans of the stuff became po[CENSORED]r. It has been around since the early ‘70s creating all manner specialty rubber coatings. It started out as a way to add a non-stick coating to your tools. Now, black is back. Almost every manufacturer offers at least black rims, if not a whole “murdered-out" package. Thankfully, if you didn’t get your car murdered out, you can do that with a couple cans of Plasti Dip. By the way, it comes in all colors of the rainbow now, and people have been known to throw a coat of gloss over the matte surface for that extra shine. I left my Mustang wheels in satin finish. Here’s a step by step process for dipping your wheels; along with the video above I’ll add some of my own tips and tricks. Step 1: Clean the crap out of your wheels. Spray them with soap and water and wipe them dry. Clean off all of the brake dust and wash them again, making sure to get into the nooks and crannies. Step 2: Either protect your car's sensitive parts or take the wheels off. Our guy “throwsomediponit” uses a painter’s tarp to get behind the spokes and cover the brake parts. I took my wheels off and cut a round piece of cardboard to stop the overspray. Either way will work. He also sprays the Plasti Dip right on to his tires. I protected mine by slipping playing cards between the rim and tire. If you spray it on thick enough, you can always cut the excess with a razor blade.Step 2.5: Warm. One thing I didn’t try was warming up the cans in a bucket of hot water. But Throwsomediponit swears by it. Step 3: Spray. The first coat is light, maybe 50-60 percent coverage. Try to get it from every angle. Throwsomediponit says rotate the wheel after the first few coats and get the undersides. I had the wheels off the car, so I just rotated around the wheel as I was spraying. The second coat should be thick and wet, and be sure to dab off any drips with a clean rag. Coats 3 and 4 are also thick. Remember, the thicker you put it on, the easier it will come off. If the wheels are still on the car, rotate and spray more. Wait about 20 minutes between each coat. Step 4: Finish. Remove the playing cards or painter’s tape around the edge, or trim with a razor. Remove the brake protection or put the wheel back on the car. Step 5: Repeat for the rest of the wheels. You can throw a coat of removable gloss on your wheels, or not. And Plasti Dip isn’t the only company out there either. Dupli-Color has a product, as does Rustoleum and AutoFlex. You’re supposed to remove it and recoat it once a year or so, though I’ve left mine covered for a few years now and the only problem is when you have new tires installed, the machine rips up the edges. Overall, it’s a great way to change the look and feel of your ride without spending much money. And the coating works on almost everything, not just wheels. Mirror housings? Sure. Grille? We wouldn’t advise it but yes. Roof panel? Why not. You can always demurderize it later when styles inevitably change.
  6. MUMBAI: Day after the All India Cine Workers Association announced a blanket ban on Pakistani artistes working in the Indian film industry, Salman Khan reportedly asked his production house to replace Atif Aslam, who was roped in to sing a song in 'Notebook'. According to reports, the song, Pakistani artist sang for the film, will again be recorded with a new singer. While there's no official announcement made by anyone associated with the production. The decision came after some of the Hindu extremists voiced to ban Pakistani artists in the Indian film industry after the Pulwama attack. Earlier, AICWA announced a total ban on Pakistani Actors and Artists working in Film Industry. Still, if any organisation insist on working with Pakistani Artists will be banned by AICWA and strong action will be taken against them. Meanwhile, Salman's 'Notebook' will mark the debut of Pranutan Bahl and Zaheer Iqbal in Bollywood.
  7. The 28-year-old South African, who has been dogged by questions about her gender, is in Switzerland for the first day of her appeal hearing (left and right). She is seeking to overturn a new set of rules proposed by The International Association of Athletics Federations' proposed (IAAF) which would force 'hyperandrogenic' athletes - or those with 'differences of sexual development' (DSD) - to take drugs to lower testosterone levels below a prescribed amount if they wish to compete. On the first day of the appeal, at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland, Semenya's legal team said the IAAF had breached confidentiality regulations by releasing the names of five expert witnesses who will testify on their behalf.

  9. Reg Appeal Design director Christie Lenneville tells a story that may be familiar to Reg readers. A design expert was called in to modernise some XP-era enterprise software used by call centre staff: their control panel. She wrote: "The design incorporated white space in all of the usual places – around headers, content blocks, and in table rows. The breathing room was glorious. It lasted one month before the company was forced to retire it." The design was very modern, but forced the users to hunt and scroll for information. It's a common complaint that users never tell designers what the business application ever really does, and users complain that designers never watch what they do. So who's right? There's only one way to settle it: in the comments below. If you have a tale of a hipster makeover, or an un-improvable legacy interface designed a thousand years ago by a goblin, we want to hear from you. We would like pictures of either (you can email your snaps to the author here) very much indeed, although discretion is advised. After several Friday beers, we will digest the results and publish our expensive recommendations to your management. ®
  10. Another day, another leak, this time from the known twitter profile TUM_APISAK who spotted that the Final Fantasy XV benchmark database has already been updated with NVIDIA’s latest upcoming mid-range graphics card: the GTX 1660 Ti. According to the scores, the GTX 1660 Ti will net (very) slightly higher performance than a standard GTX 1070. This is also roughly equal performance as a GTX 980 Ti. NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti (barely) beats out a GTX 1070 and within spitting distance of the AMD Radeon VII As always with any leak this close to release, we are probably looking at the non-final drivers (NVIDIA has the irritating habit of delaying a release of final drivers to nullify performance leaks like this one) so the performance will probably improve slightly once the final and polished drivers are out for everyone to use. Here is the benchmark in all its glory: RELATED NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 and GeForce RTX 2070 Sales Lower Than Expected, Gaming Revenue Down 45% – Crypto and Excess Channel Inventory Also To Blame Screenshot captured from Final Fantasy XV benchmark database. As you can see the NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti scores 5000 points, which is just 52 points below the 980 Ti and 283 points below the Radeon VII. This is easily a GTX 1070 replacement considering the GTX 1070 Ti is still 627 points further ahead while the GTX 1080 is a full 1174 points ahead. Depending on how NVIDIA prices the 1660 Ti this could be the new crowd favorite considering it offers very decent performance and the only question mark right now is the price point NVIDIA decides to push this out at. Considering, however, that the RTX series did not fare well at the very high price points, I would not be surprised to see NVIDIA going very conservative in pricing with these (which is good for the consumer). The GeForce GTX 1660 will have 6GB of GDDR5 memory with a 192-bit bus. The memory will be clocked at 4000 MHz while the clock speed will be 1530 MHz base and 1785 MHz boost. The card will feature the TU116-300 die and the board number is PG165. The fact that the GTX 1660 Ti is the same board number as the RTX 2060 means that we are probably looking at the tensor and RTX cores disabled via hardware straps. It is also worth noting that a 3GB version of the GTX 1660 is also being planned – with 3GB of GDDR5 memory and 4000 MHz clocks. The 1660 Ti, on the other hand, will have 6GB of GDDR6 memory and a 192-bit bus. This will be clocked at 6000 MHz which is considerably faster than the 1660 counterpart. The base clock will be 1500 MHz with boost at 1770 MHz. The card is based on the TU116-400 die and the board number is PG161 – which is the same board number as the RTX 2060. This also means the die will be pin compatible with the 2060. The core counts leaked by VCZ put the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti and GTX 1660 at 5.44 TFLOPs and 4.57 TFLOPs respectively. In comparison, the RTX 2060 is going to be 6.45 TFLOPs. The ROP counts can also be inferred using these core count specifications. The GTX 1660 Ti should be priced somewhere around the $279 mark and a good enough price point could make this the new entry-level champion. With these specs, you are looking at 1070-or-more level performance.
  11. Among the many displays crowding the huge expanse of Daytona International Speedway in the week leading up to NASCAR’s Daytona 500 is one from Toyota. And among all the cars on display, one was surprisingly not getting much attention Saturday morning: A 2020 Supra, clad in red and stickered up like a pace car. For those who did notice it, there was quite a buzz. The much-anticipated Supra made its debut a few weeks ago at the Detroit Auto Show. It was also seen at Barrett-Jackson, when the first production model was sold for charity shortly after. Saturday, the new NASCAR Xfinity version made its on-track debut and finished third in its first race. This week an early production model was among the Toyota vehicles being displayed on Daytona’s midway. his is an early prototype, a similar one to the one that was at Barrett Jackson,” Ed Laukes, group VP of marketing at Toyota, said. The new models won’t be in showrooms until late March. But for those fans lucky enough to be at Daytona this week, the new Supra could be seen up close and in person for the first time for the general public. “We think we're drawing a lot of attention,” Laukes said. “It’s been 22 years since we've had Supra, and people have been asking for Supra to come back, and we worked really hard to get it back, and now it's back.” While there may not have been a huge crowd around it prior to the Xfinity race Saturday, those who did look the Supra over seemed genuinely excited to finally see in person one of the most iconic sports cars in history as it gets one step closer to returning to showrooms.
  12. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), a far right Indian political party, had called for all music label companies to stop working with Pakistani singers. “We have verbally communicated to Indian music companies like T-Series, Sony Music, Venus and Tips Music etc to not work with Pakistani singers. These companies should stop it immediately or we will take action in our own style,” said Amey Khopkar, head of the MNS Chitrapat Sena. Recently, Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series had collaborated with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Atif Aslam for two different singles. Related: Navjot Singh Sidhu asked to leave The Kapil Sharma Show over Pulwama attack comments “They have removed their songs [from the company’s YouTube channel] post our warning,” Khopkar claimed. In 2016, after the Uri attacks, the Raj Thackeray-led party had similarly set a 48-hour deadline for all Pakistani artists working in India to leave the country. Over 40 Indian soldiers were killed in an attack in Indian-Administered Kashmir on February 14 after a suicide bomber rammed an explosive laden vehicle into a convoy of Indian forces. Jaish-e-Muhammad claimed responsibility for the attack. Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has said that Pakistan is taking action against the outlawed group and offered assistance to India in the investigation.

Severe weather closed in and the sea ice conditions in the Antarctic led to the loss of the AUV7, a specialist submersible autonomous underwater vehicle, which was deployed to locate the wreck using HD still colour cameras. The Weddell Sea Expedition team was on the final leg of the mission when the vehicle entered underneath a vast sheet of floating ice to take images of the legendary ship but contact was lost with the Expedition research vessel, the S.A. 14. Oracle's share prices took a buffeting last night after it was revealed billionaire Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway had ditched its $2.1bn stake in Big Red. The divestment was revealed in the firm's latest SEC filing, which lists stock at the end of the third quarter, 31 December 2018, and had a Big Red hold. The move is particularly noteworthy because Berkshire Hathaway had only bought the 41.4 million Oracle shares in the previous quarter – and Bill Gates' bridge partner's biz rarely ditches stock that fast. The news saw Oracle share prices fall 2 per cent, according to CNBC, although they had recovered at the time of writing. Although Oracle still brings in plenty of cash, it is widely seen to be struggling to keep pace with competitors in the cloud, while demand for on-premises kit continues to decline. ts latest financial results, for Q2 2019, saw revenues of $9.6bn, up just 2 per cent when adjusted for constant currency. Q1 2019, the three months to 31 August 2018, was a similar story, with revenues up 1 per cent on the previous year to $9.1bn. The firm is also locked in a number of high-profile court cases – although most would not be news to Buffet's firm at the time it chose to buy the stock. That includes a battle with the US government over the $10bn Pentagon cloud contract and a Supreme Court copyright case against support biz Rimini Street. However, a pay discrimination case brought by the Department of Labor has hotted up this year, and Google last month asked the Supreme Court to consider its years-long spat with Oracle over the use of Java code in Android operating systems. Big Red was the only company the billionaire's holding company ditched entirely, although it did shed almost three million shares in Apple – but that still leaves it with 250 million or so. At the other end of the spectrum, the firm bought 4,175,792 shares in open-source biz Red Hat, worth almost $750m. The move comes after Berkshire Hathaway last year sold all its shares in IBM, which in October announced plans to buy Red Hat. ®

  16. With the latest over-the-air update, Tesla has rolled out a couple of very useful features, some we're surprised took automakers until 2019 to develop. These features use the various existing sensors and cameras in Tesla cars to offer new safety and convenience options that owners should find pretty useful. The first is Dog Mode: This feature uses automatic sensors to maintain a comfortable temperature for pets inside the vehicle when you have to run errands, such as inside a grocery store, while also displaying a message in giant letters to passers-by who might become concerned for pets left in the car. The message will tell anyone looking inside the car that the owner will return soon and display interior temperature. This feature can be activated via the climate control menu, simply by pressing a button labeled "Dog" within the Keep Climate On option. Back in 2016, Tesla already offered a Cabin Overheat Protection feature -- a more basic version of automatic climate control for when the car is turned off. Dog Mode is the upgrade, offering more user-adjustable settings. Of course, this system is not a replacement for common sense or local laws, especially when it comes to leaving children in the car. The second feature is Sentry Mode: This will activate exterior cameras if it detects people near the vehicle and will display a message on the central screen notifying anyone who might be looking inside the vehicle that the car is using cameras to record them. In case someone actually breaks a window, the alarm will of course activate, and the car will also blare music at the maximum volume setting. Drivers will need to manually activate Sentry mode each time before leaving the car and plug in a USB drive on to which the car will upload the video. We have a feeling we know which one of these two updates will be more useful on a daily basis for those who own pets -- and frankly just about all major automakers could benefit from a Dog Mode.
  17. Hassan, who composed the original perfomed by his late sister, Nazia Hassan lashed out at PSL for using the track without his permission:"I was shocked to see that a reputable platform like PSL used our track Disco Dewane without our prior permission. Outright infringement of intellectual property should be condemned and I am going to take a legal stand on this one," he wrote. Disco Deewane was performed by Shuja Haider and Aima Baig during the opening ceremony of PSL 4 and personally, we think Zoheb's even angrier because they kinda ruined it.
  18. Sir Richard Branson has announced plans for a Venezuela Aid Live concert which aims to raise $100million for food and supplies in the crisis-hit country. The event will be held on February 22 in the Colombian city of Cucuta, on the border with Venezuela, and live-streamed on the internet. British star Peter Gabriel is among stars who have pledged to perform at the concert. 'Venezuela is suffering and not that long ago it was the wealthiest country in South America. Now it is facing the worst humanitarian crisis in the Western Hemisphere. The Virgin group founder said he is setting up the concert at the request of national assembly speaker Juan Guaido, now recognised by more than 50 countries as Venezuela's interim president, and jailed opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez, to draw attention to the crisis in Venezuela. Our goal is to raise $100 million dollars in 60 days and reopen Venezuela's border so humanitarian aid can finally reach those millions who need it the most,' said Branson. The musicians scheduled to perform include Venezuelan reggaeton artist Nacho, Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz and Colombians Carlos Vives and Juanes, according to the website. Also on the bill are the singer of the hit song 'Despacito', Puerto Rico's Luis Fonsi, Spanish singer Miguel Bose, and British star Peter Gabriel. The concert will be held a day before the date on which Guaido has insisted that humanitarian aid will start flowing into the country. It is now blocked at the border with Colombia. President Nicolas Maduro refuses to let it in, saying this would be the first step toward a US invasion. 'We must break this impasse or soon many Venezuelans will be on the edge of starvation or death,' Branson said.

  22. Windows 10 Insiders sent screaming into a future where, er, nothing much has changed right nowMicrosoft fired up the speculation machine last night by issuing a fresh build of Windows 10 to lucky skip-ahead testers: and it contains code from 2020s Windows. While greybeards still enjoy drawers filled with dusty CDs of beta code for Windows NT, handed out years before final Release To Manufacturing, this is a first since Windows 10's release (unless one counts the leaked builds smuggled out through Redmond's walls.) Windows Insiders are Microsoft's army of volunteer testers, given access to early versions of Windows 10 in order to give the OS a thorough kicking on as many hardware configurations as possible. Until yesterday, "Skip Ahead" meant opting to jump beyond the next version of the operating system for ever shinier toys. As such, anxious testers were wondering when 19H2 would put in an appearance, with 19H1 (likely called the Windows 10 April 2019 Update) nearing release. The "Skip Ahead" ring was briefly opened just over two weeks ago, and users have been impatiently awaiting their first glimpse of 19H2, likely the "October 2019 Update", ever since. Would it see the return of Sets? Might there be hints of a leaner, lighter Windows? Perhaps some more beatings with the dark mode stick that so many inexplicably enjoy so much? Surprise! Those Skip Ahead users are actually getting a glimpse of a Windows world in the year 2020, thanks to build 18836. In a posting woefully short on detail, Windows Insider supremo Dona Sarkar stated the bleeding obvious when she said: "some things we are working on in 20H1 require a longer lead time" without actually explaining why Skip Ahead testers are being asked to Skip Ahead quite so far into the future. She also said Insiders would get hold of 19H2 after 19H1 (the next release) is "nearly finished and ready". So that means the brave souls on Skip Ahead will get a downgrade to 19H2, right? Not so, according to Microsoft's Brandon LeBlanc:So, if you selected Skip Ahead, you won't be seeing 19H2 (likely the October update). This could mean Microsoft intends to play with its Rings. Fast Ring users might become what was Skip Ahead and get 19H2 as 19H1 nears release while the currently neglected Slow Ring finally gets some fresh code to test. Then again, LeBlanc was also the chap that cheerfully reckoned enough testing had been done with the October 2018 Update to bypass Release Preview and unleash the thing directly on users. That didn’t end so well. So, pull up a chair and crank up the ol' Speculation 3000. Right now, the new build that contains the 2020 code has little visible in the way of the new features, which is not unusual for a Skip Ahead build. The change does, however, seem to imply a shake-up of the testing rings are imminent for Insiders. If so, it is a shame that those enthusiastic souls who opted to join Skip Ahead were not warned that they would be leaping two versions into the future rather than one. Or perhaps, dare we say it, there is something so horrifying in 19H2 that 20H1 has been hastily shovelled out to give Microsoft more time to deal with it. ®
  23. NVIDIA has released its earnings report for Q4 FY19 with $2.21 billion revenue in total, beating expectations and raising their share price in the after-hours trading. At the same time, NVIDIA posted that their Gaming revenue has seen a drop of 45% from the previous year which means their GeForce sales has taken a major hit. NVIDIA Reports 45% Revenue Drop in Gaming Sales, Cites Lower Than Expected Sales of GeForce RTX 2080 and GeForce RTX 2070 Graphics Cards In the details shared by NVIDIA, the market to market revenue chart shows that Gaming was able to make $954 million in Q4 FY19 compared to $1764 million in the previous quarter. Not only does that make it a 46% decline from the previous quarter, but looking at Year-To-Year results, NVIDIA also saw a 45% decline. 2018 was a record year but it was a disappointing finish. This quarter, we expect to put the channel inventory issue behind us and get back on track. As the pioneer of accelerated computing, our position is unique and strong. And the opportunities ahead in graphic, high performance computing, AI and autonomous machines remain enormous. We are as enthusiastic about these growth opportunities as ever. Other markets such as Datacenter, Automotive, and Professional Visualization were up from the previous year as can be seen in the chart above. NVIDIA stated in the previous reports that OEM and IP sales are attributed to their crypto business and here, we can see a 22% decline from the previous quarter and 36% decline from the previous year with a now standing revenue of $116 million. Do note that OEM and IP are direct sales to crypto businesses and there’s no telling how many GeForce tier (Gaming) cards amounted to the Gaming revenue as users who buy them can end up using the cards for crypto mining. Deteriorating macro economic conditions, particularly in China, impacted consumer demand for our GPUs; and third, sales of certain high-end GPUs using our new Turing architecture, including the GeForce RTX 2080 and 2070 were lower than we expected for the launch of a new architecture. On a full year basis, we expect our gaming business to be down slightly given the tough first half compares with growth in Turing and notebook gaming. When it comes to crypto, it is partially to blame but still a significant factor which led to decline in NVIDIA’s revenue. NVIDIA had delayed their GeForce RTX Turing cards to get rid of excess GeForce GTX 10 series inventory which they had produced by overestimating the crypto market. As soon as cryptocurrency fell across the globe, so did the sales of crypto targeted graphics cards and that hit NVIDIA as they had overproduced Pascal chips. Even at the moment, NVIDIA still isn’t clear of their GeForce 1060 (GP106 GPU) inventory. There are also other factors and much of that has to do with the GeForce RTX cards and their main highlight, the RTX feature. First of all, we should look at the prices of GeForce RTX 20 series cards which are highest in their graphics segment. The other thing is the performance increase per gen which is also lower than what previous generations had to offer. If we look at Pascal, the GeForce GTX 1070 and GeForce GTX 1080 gave users a lot of reason to upgrade and weren’t priced out of range of the mainstream audience. The GTX 1080 Ti was the king of the hill for a full 2 years and had a price of just $699 US.The current situation is completely different. NVIDIA is offering the GTX 1080 successor for the price of a GTX 1080 Ti which offers around the same performance of the previous flagship at $699 US. Same can be said for the RTX 2070 which exceeds the performance of a GTX 1080 but costs the same at $499 US. The GeForce RTX 2060 costs $349 US and that’s about the same as the GTX 1070 but here, it does offer somewhat better performance.vNVIDIA also states that the reason for poor sales was due to them introducing high-end cards first. But I should remind you that with Pascal and Maxwell, NVIDIA also launched their high-end cards first. The GeForce GTX 1080 and GeForce GTX 1070 were introduced around the same time while the GeForce GTX 980 and GeForce GTX 970 were also announced and launched close to one another. The GeForce GTX 960 and GTX 1060 always launched later than the higher end cards but this time, NVIDIA had the edge by offering RTX 2080 Ti from the start which is a crucial flagship product in the Turing lineup. When we launched the 2070 and 2080, it was the first time we’ve ever launched a new generation where the only available SKUs were very high end. And in addition to that, the early boards that came out into the marketplace were the special edition and the over clocked versions. And the MSRP versions didn’t show up for some short time after, couple of months after. And so the conditions weren’t ideal, if you will. We weren’t able to launch into the mainstream segment with 2060 for all the reasons that I think everybody understands now. And so I think that the situ wasn’t ideal. When you take a look at our situation now, every single graphics card had the best performance at its price point and it remains so today. Now coming to the second problem with GeForce RTX cards which is the main feature or RTX itself. NVIDIA had promised many gaming titles to use their highly anticipated Ray Tracing and DLSS tech but currently, only three games exist that utilize their DLSS technology and two games, Battlefield V and Metro Exodus) which use Ray Tracing. Sure the Ray Tracing tech helps a lot in enhancing the visual fidelity but Ray Tracing also impacts performance. In each title tested, Ray Tracing means a major hit to FPS so users would have to trade in performance for quality and in a title such as BFV Multiplayer where FPS matters, Ray Tracing can really take away the fun from the game unless you tone down the resolution to somewhat playable levels. And I think that right out of the box, it delivered excellent performance. It is true that everybody was hoping to see more games with RTX on day one. But it’s such a new technology with ray-tracing and AI for image processing that it’s only really possible to make available with new games, which is tied to the schedules of new games. And now they’re starting to come out. Battlefield 5, Metro Exodus, I think that the reviews from this week are just spectacular. With DLSS and Ray Tracing combined, users can indeed get higher playable framerates but DLSS has shown to cause image artifacts and in some cases, blurry image quality than standard TAA which may lead to poor game immersion. Plus, we still haven’t seen Shadow of The Tomb Raider, and many other titles which were promised by NVIDIA to implement Ray Tracing and DLSS tech. Given the high bar set by Maxwell and Pascal before it, Turing just doesn’t seem like much of an update in terms of pure raw power (minus DLSS and RTX features). But NVIDIA states that their Gaming segment would get better this year considering the launched their GeForce RTX 2060 just last month and the upcoming GeForce 16 series cards which focus on offering mainstream performance with Turing architecture under the $300 US market. With all the wrecking yards I visit while searching for interesting discarded vehicles, I see lots of the iconic Car-Freshner Little Tree air fresheners dangling from soon-to-be-crushed rear-view mirrors. I'd say that New Car Scent, Black Ice, and Vanillaroma make up 80% of the Little Trees I see in such locations, mostly because those are the scents most likely to be found in convenience stores and gas stations, but Car-Freshner currently sells 36 scents in the United States (other regions have other scents, of course), and dozens more have come and gone over the decades. Here's my collection of photos of the rare Fresh Surge trees, a citrus/fruit/spice-scented tree that appeared around 2015 but didn't stick around long, captured in junkyards located in four states. 25. Breaking Bad was noted for its razor-sharp writing, massive buildup in the four seasons (with the fifth season densely packed with payoffs that were a long time coming), and strong performances, particularly by Cranston. Here is everything you need to know about the movie. A movie on megahit TV series Breaking Bad is in development. A movie on Sony and AMC’s megahit TV series Breaking Bad is in development. Recently, new details regarding the film have come to light. The series, which spawned similarly acclaimed spinoff series called Better Call Saul, revolved around a high-school Chemistry teacher Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and his former student Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul). Advertising After Walter gets diagnosed with inoperable cancer, he enlists the support of Jesse, who he knows to be a small-time drug peddler, in cooking high-quality crystal meth, instead of the commonly available variety. Walter states, even to himself, that he is doing this to support his family. They together build an empire using Walter’s expertise in chemistry and Jesse’s network of drug dealers, collaborating with barons like unstable Tuco Salamanca to the more suave Gustavo Fring. The excitement regarding the movie, naturally, is great. Here is everything you need to know about it. Vince Gilligan will helm it Vince Gilligan, the creator of the show, will executive produce, write and direct the movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This is great, since he was the one almost solely involved with nearly every aspect of the show and made it so compelling. Aaron Paul’s Jesse Pinkman will likely be the lead character in the movie, and it will trace his adventures post the Breaking Bad finale, when he ran like the devil was after him. He might have ended up with Brock, the young son of his dead girlfriend Andrea. We might see a more mature version of Jesse, so likely we will not hear him words like “Yo” or “Bitch!” again. But then again, this is Jesse we are talking about. No word on Cranston’s involvement While Jesse was a big part of Breaking Bad (some say he was the show’s conscience), it was Walter White who elevated the show from a run-of-the-mill crime drama to something truly special. His transformation from a mostly decent, slightly boring old uncle to a frightening monster of a man who would not recoil from killing innocent people and even children if that’s what it took to accomplish his goal was a sight to behold. Cranston was indescribably charismatic in the role, using his shaved head and lined face and subtle facial expressions to convey his descent into utter villainy. It was hard to relate to him after some of the things he did, but relate we did since he was the protagonist, wasn’t he? That is what you are supposed to do with protagonists. Cranston has said he has heard of the movie and it is indeed happening. He would “absolutely” work in it if Gilligan asked him, but that has not happened yet. Since the film is in early stages of development, there is still hope. Cranston could return in flashbacks inside Jesse’s mind. Walter White is a spectre that would haunt Jesse for his whole life. It might also be that Walter survived, but was caught, and is inside a prison and somehow gets free and assumes a new identity? The cancer was certainly not killing him the last time we saw him. The possibilities are endless. I admire Deepika Padukone: Zam Zam actor Manjima Mohan Unlike Better Call Saul, which is basically a prequel with some portions telling the story of Bob Odenkirk’s Saul Goodman after the events of Breaking Bad, the Breaking Bad movie will be a sequel. It will be based on Jesse Pinkman
