  11. Raspberry Pi alternative FriendlyELEC have a history of producing ever more powerful single board computers (SBC) for a variety of applications. Their latest board the NanoPi NEO3, discovered by CNX Software seems to be a small device with which to build network storage applications. The RockChip RK3328 System on Chip (SoC) is quite an old SoC, released in 2016, but it is still a powerful chip for such a small board. Providing a quad core Arm Cortex A53 and MAli-450MP4 GPU, add in 1GB or 2GB of DDR4, USB 3 and USB C power and we have an interesting board, as long as it is cost effective. Network connectivity is limited to a single Gigabit Ethernet port (RTL8211E). There is no HDMI or other video outputs on the board, which means all control is via a remote terminal. Storage is available via a microSD card slot, sadly there is no space for any SATA or NVME storage options. GPIO access is provided via a 26 pin interface, which features I2C, UART, SPI and I2S. Operating system support is currently an unknown quantity, but it is a good bet that operating systems for other RockChip boards will be compatible. Based on the size of the board, slightly larger than a Raspberry Pi Zero W, and the power being roughly equal to a Raspberry Pi 3B, we would hope to see this board come in at around $20, with the 2GB model for a few dollars more.
  12. Microsoft has released a recent Windows 10 update that switches its Edge web browser to the new ‘Chromium’ version (whether you want it to or not), but it appears the update is also causing some PCs to boot more slowly. The Windows 10 KB4559309 update is an automatic update, and as Windows Latest reports, some people are complaining that after installing the update, their PCs are taking longer to boot into Windows 10. Everything you need to know about the Windows 10 May 2020 Update These are the best antivirus programs Check out our pick of the best laptops As if that wasn’t annoying enough, there are also reports that once the PC boots, it continues to perform slowly, with apps and web pages taking longer to load – and games are also apparently running worse after the update. While this is only affecting some PCs with the update installed – we currently don’t know how widespread this issue is – if you do notice your PC is performing worse all of a sudden, check to see if this update is installed. If it is, that could be the cause. How to fix the problem As Windows Latest explains, you can usually fix issues introduced by Windows 10 updates by uninstalling the faulty update. However, rather annoyingly, you can’t do that with the KB4559309 update. Instead, you’ll need to use the System Restore feature to revert your PC back to a state before you installed the update. Don’t worry, this shouldn’t mean you lose any files or data.

  14. Pros As charming as the regular Mini, yet with more space Fun styling details Excellent handling JCW ALL4 has 301 horsepower Cons At more than 4,000 pounds, kind of heavy for something called a Mini Top model can get expensive Blind-spot monitoring not even an option What’s New this year? Signature sub-trim gains new technology as standard 6-speed manual transmission makes a comeback People Also Ask Where is the 2021 Mini Clubman built? At the BMW Plant Oxford in Cowley, England. What’s the difference between a Mini Clubman and a Mini Countryman? The Clubman is a small wagon, the slightly larger Countryman is more along the lines of a subcompact crossover/SUV. Is the Mini Clubman reliable? Between 2016 and 2020, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) received only nine complaints regarding the Clubman, with nothing from 2018 onward. Perhaps Clubman owners hate to make a fuss. Or maybe the Clubman is at least as reliable as the average premium vehicle. Overview The 2021 Mini Clubman is the answer to an incredibly specific question. What if someone loved the Mini Cooper Hardtop 4 Door — but wanted more space in the back for rear passengers and luggage, the option of all-wheel drive for dealing with inclement weather, and why not throw some extra functionality in there with some easy-opening rear doors? The Clubman retains pretty much all the cornering talents of its smaller sibling, but allows grown-ups to sit in the back. This extra space hasn’t detracted from a design approach that has always been a particular Mini talent, inside and out. And the scope for stamping one’s own personality on it in the form of stripes, contrasting colors, and Union Jack flags is abundant. Available as a Cooper S with front-wheel or all-wheel drive, or a higher-performance John Cooper Works variant with all-wheel drive as standard, these versions are each offered in sub-trims (in ascending order of equipment levels) of Classic, Signature and Iconic. Being more premium than mainstream, Mini cars can be pricey once the options list is exhausted, but they tend to enjoy robust resale values. The Clubman can be equally sensible and sensational. Driving the 2021 Mini Clubman Front-wheel-drive versions of the 2021 Clubman handle exceptionally well. Reactions are eager and precise. In this respect, the Clubman is just like the smaller/shorter Mini. The other good news is that all-wheel-drive ALL4 models are just as enjoyable. With 189 horsepower, the base Cooper S achieves a fine balance of engine power, refinement and ride quality, while still remaining relatively affordable. The 2021 John Cooper Works Clubman exercises its 301 horsepower to hit 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds. This variant is more for the committed enthusiast. Its chassis is wonderfully controlled and controllable, but really firm in Sport mode. Favorite Features POWERED REAR DOORS Hands-free trunk lids and powered tailgates on SUVs and minivans are undeniably convenient, but whoever came up with powered swing-out doors — that can be activated by waving a foot under the bumper — deserves a medal. DYNAMIC DAMPER CONTROL Standard at the Signature level, this system allows the driver to choose either a supple everyday ride or a firmer setting for excellent cornering composure. 2021 Mini Clubman Interior Think of the 2021 Clubman as a Mini, but about 10 inches longer than a Hardtop 4 Door. This brings sufficient room for an adult male of average size to sit in the back without complaint. The non-sloping roof also enables some decent headroom. The JCW version has the sportiest front seats, with plenty of side support that’s important through quick corners. Up front has some typical Mini features such as the thick-rimmed steering wheel, a row of toggle switches, and the large round display in the center console. Quality materials are deployed throughout, including soft-touch plastics. Behind the rear seats is 17.5 cubic feet of luggage space, or a useful 47.9 cubic feet when those seats are folded. 2021 Mini Clubman Exterior There’s no mistaking the Clubman’s exterior design as any other than a Mini. It merely adds a little more practicality with the wagon-like rear section, those swing-out “barn doors” and Union Jack taillights as standard. To feed sufficient air into the Clubman’s turbocharged engines, each variant has a hood scoop, while the JCW also has a red line bisecting its grille. The lower two sub-trims run on 17-inch alloy wheels, while top JCW ALL4 Iconic version has 19-inchers. Every new Clubman can be customized in seemingly infinite ways with things like racing stripes, contrasting colors for the roof and side mirrors, Union Jack motifs, and a choice of alloy wheel designs. 2021 Mini Clubman Standard Features In entry-level Classic trim, the 2021 Mini Cooper S Clubman has the 189-horsepower engine, 6-speed manual transmission (optional in Signature and Iconic versions), 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, 6.5-inch touchscreen, 3-spoke/leather-wrapped steering wheel and simulated leather upholstery in black. Signature trim brings a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry/ignition, heated front seats, navigation with real-time traffic updates, Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, digital driver information display, Harman Kardon audio system, and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Iconic trim adds leather upholstery, 18-inch alloy wheels, self-dimming mirrors, power-adjustable front seats with driver’ s-side memory settings, 40/20/40 split/folding rear seats, and an 8.8-inch infotainment touchscreen. Every 2021 Clubman ALL4 model has an 8-speed automatic transmission and the JCW ALL4 in Iconic trim rolls on 19-inch alloy wheels. 2021 Mini Clubman Options The main hardware choices with the 2021 Clubman are all-wheel-drive in the Cooper S, plus the bigger engine and sportier suspension of the John Cooper Works Clubman ALL4. There is no front-drive JCW Clubman. Clubmans in Classic trim can come with a Harman Kardon sound system, Union Jack side mirror caps, satellite radio, roof rack, and racing stripes. But we’d be more inclined to look at a Signature version because it’s eligible for even more extras. Such as the Driver Assistance Package that includes active cruise control, parking assistance, and a head-up display. Or real leather upholstery and some of the Iconic trim’s features. 2021 Mini Clubman Engine The front-drive Cooper S Clubman is propelled by a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces a respectable 189 horsepower. In Classic trim, it’s linked to a 6-speed manual transmission (sourced from Getrag, a specialist supplier to many companies). In the two higher trims, this car employs a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT). Whenever the ALL4 system is present, the transmission is an 8-speed automatic. The John Cooper Works ALL4 also has a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, but this one makes a considerable 301 horsepower. Yet its fuel economy ratings are close to the Cooper S ALL4. 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 (Cooper S) 189 horsepower @ 5,000 rpm 207 lb-ft of torque @ 1,350 rpm EPA city/highway fuel economy (estimated): 26/34 mpg (7-speed DCT), N/A (manual) 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 (Cooper S ALL4) 189 horsepower @ 5,000 rpm 207 lb-ft of torque @ 1,350 rpm EPA city/highway fuel economy (estimated): 23/32 mpg 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 (John Cooper Works ALL4) 301 horsepower @ 5,200 rpm 331 lb-ft of torque @ 1,450 rpm EPA city/highway fuel economy (estimated): 23/31 mpg How Much Does the 2021 Mini Clubman cost? In Classic trim, the 2021 Mini Cooper S Clubman has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $29,900, plus a destination fee of $850, bringing the total to $30,750. Which is $1,000 lower than last year. The 2021 Cooper S Clubman ALL4 starts at $33,750. And the 2021 Mini John Cooper Works Clubman ALL4 is priced from $40,350, only $100 more than 2020’s equivalent. Fully loaded, a 2021 Mini Clubman JCW ALL4 in Iconic trim can approach the $50,000 mark. There isn’t anything that’s a direct rival. Something cute, small, fun, premium, and crossover-ish is the BMW X2. But that starts at around $37,000. Or open your mind: The Mazda3 hatchback is virtually as refined and high-quality as a premium car, it’s also wonderful to drive, practical, and even offers all-wheel drive. Before buying, check the KBB.com Fair Purchase Price to see what others in your area are paying for their new Mini Clubman. Resale values are strong. Head-Curtain Airbags Front and rear occupants in the 2021 Clubman are protected in side impacts by standard head-curtain airbags. Active Driving Assistant This array of safety features is standard in the 2021 Clubman and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking.
  15. Fashion designer Anavila Misra on Monday said she and her team have donated masks to the Post Master General of Mumbai to support the local postmen and women who are working tirelessly through the coronavirus-led lockdown. The Mumbai-based designer delivered the first batch of 200 masks last week at her local post office in the Khar suburb and will continue to make more. “We have been using the Indian postal service since the very beginning to deliver our fabrics and receive work from remote clusters of India. “They have been an integral part of our brand and it’s indeed humbling to be of some service to the frontline warriors of Indian postal service who have shown utmost commitment towards the nation and its people during these difficult times,” Misra said in a statement. The designer said the masks, which are made of linen with an inner layer of soft mulmul, can be washed and reused. Swati Pandey, the Postmaster-General, Mumbai, said though 36 members of the postal fraternity were diagnosed with COVID-19 and five of them succumbed to the virus, the corona warriors of India Post are braving the pandemic, by delivering more than 24,000 kg of medical equipment and PPE kits to the hospitals and medical units. “During the lockdown phase, the corona warriors of India Post Mumbai delivered more than a pension value of Rs 57,96,4390 to the senior citizens, most of them to the doorsteps of the pensioners in order to ensure complete quarantine to them. “We empathised with the migrant workers and helped them to transfer money instantly to their families in Bihar, UP and West Bengal through the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System service of India Post Payment Bank. We at India Post, Mumbai are working tirelessly to ensure prompt and unabated service to individuals amid COVID-19,” Pandey added. Previously, designers Anita Dongre and Masaba Gupta also produced masks to contribute in India’s fight against the virus
  16. A leading medical-research institution working on a cure for Covid-19 has admitted it paid hackers a $1.14m (£910,000) ransom after a covert negotiation witnessed. The Netwalker criminal gang attacked University of California San Francisco (UCSF) on 1 June. IT staff unplugged computers in a race to stop the malware spreading. And an anonymous tip-off enabled BBC News to follow the ransom negotiations in a live chat on the dark web. Cyber-security experts say these sorts of negotiations are now happening all over the world - sometimes for even larger sums - against the advice of law-enforcement agencies, including the FBI, Europol and the UK's National Cyber Security Centre. Netwalker alone has been linked to at least two other ransomware attacks on universities in the past two months. At first glance, its dark-web homepage looks like a standard customer-service website, with a frequently asked questions (FAQ) tab, an offer of a "free" sample of its software and a live-chat option. But there is also a countdown timer ticking down to a time when the hackers either double the price of their ransom, or delete the data they have scrambled with malware. Instructed to log in - either by email or a ransom note left on hacked computer screens - UCSF was met with the following message, posted on 5 June. Six hours later, the university asked for more time and for details of the hack to be removed from Netwalker's public blog. Noting UCSF made billions a year, the hackers then demanded $3m But the UCSF representative, who may be an external specialist negotiator, explained the coronavirus pandemic had been "financially devastating" for the university and begged them to accept $780,000. After a day of back-and-forth negotiations, UCSF said it had pulled together all available money and could pay $1.02m - but the criminals refused to go below $1.5m. Hours later, the university came back with details of how it had procured more money and a final offer of $1,140,895. And the next day, 116.4 bitcoins were transferred to Netwalker's electronic wallets and the decryption software sent to UCSF. UCSF is now assisting the FBI with its investigations, while working to restore all affected systems. It told BBC News: "The data that was encrypted is important to some of the academic work we pursue as a university serving the public good. "We therefore made the difficult decision to pay some portion of the ransom, approximately $1.14 million, to the individuals behind the malware attack in exchange for a tool to unlock the encrypted data and the return of the data they obtained. "It would be a mistake to assume that all of the statements and claims made in the negotiations are factually accurate." But Jan Op Gen Oorth, from Europol, which runs a project called No More Ransom, said: "Victims should not pay the ransom, as this finances criminals and encourages them to continue their illegal activities. "Instead, they should report it to the police so law enforcement can disrupt the criminal enterprise." Brett Callow, a threat analyst at cyber-security company Emsisoft, said: "Organisations in this situation are without a good option. "Even if they pay the demand, they'll simply receive a pinky-promise that the stolen data will be deleted. "But why would a ruthless criminal enterprise delete data that it may be able to further monetise at a later date?" Most ransomware attacks begin with a booby-trapped emaiI and research suggests criminal gangs are increasingly using tools that can gain access to systems via a single download. In the first week of this month alone, Proofpoint's cyber-security analysts say they saw more than one million emails with using a variety of phishing lures, including fake Covid-19 test results, sent to organisations in the US, France, Germany, Greece, and Italy. Organisations are encouraged to regularly back-up their data offline. But Proofpoint's Ryan Kalember said: "Universities can be challenging environments to secure for IT administrators. "The constantly changing student po[CENSORED]tion, combined with a culture of openness and information-sharing, can conflict with the rules and controls often needed to effectively protect the users and systems from attack."

  18. Parents’ home is a place where the good food waits for you. Where the table is always full of colours and your childhood memories are refreshed with your favourite meals. There is something special in those simple menus. For they have Mom’s touch and oodles of nostalgia. When I reached Aligarh two days back, I couldn’t resist sharing my stories with the world. I am thoroughly enjoying traditional Sindhi food and there is a lot of discussion happening over good food. Upon reaching, I thanked myself for braving my own fears. It was way too much to handle in the past three months and now I was all set to relax in the lap of my own comforting childhood home. At least for the next few days. Today when I thought of sharing a recipe with you all, I decided for something that will do justice to my state of mind. I wanted to share something my Mom is expert at making. And no matter how hard I try, I cannot be close to the taste of famous Sindhi Kadi that she makes. A comforting lunch at every Sindhi household, this Kadi brings back the flashing memories of my several birthday parties when every year the same menu never looked the same. You will agree, no memory is as colourful as those monotonous childhood birthdays. Cooking up Sindhi Kadi would indirectly mean serving an extra dose of love, be it to your special guests or on any special occasion. It is yet another Lockdown recipe. You can find many more easy lockdown recipes in my recent e-book Quarantine Cuisine on Amazon. Read more for the step by step recipe of Sindhi Kadi. Trust me, this Kadi is made flavourful with its choice of vegetables. You can have as many veggies as you want. In my family I have grown up eating Sindhi Kadi with loads of cluster beans, cauliflower, drumsticks, okra and other seasonal veggies. The sourness is authentically achieved with Tamarind pulp. But sometimes shreds of seasonal raw mango (ambi) and dried kokum rinds do a fab job. Traditionally Sindhi Kadi is served with Sindhi Aloo Tuk (Flattened deep fried potato chunks) but today the kids in my family asked for homemade potato wafers and we tweaked the platter as per their liking. TRADITIONAL SINDHI KADI Ingredients: (Serves 4) 4 tbsp – Gram Flour (Besan) 10-12 Bhindi (Lady Finger/Okra) , slit lengthwise 10-12 Gwar Phali (Cluster Beans) 2 medium sized Potato chunks A few Cauliflower Florets 1 medium sized Eggplant roundels 1 medium sized Raw Mango thick juliennes 3-4 thick Green Chillies 2 tbsp – thick Ginger juliennes 1 medium Tomato chunks 4 tbsp – Sunflower Oil 1 tsp – Methi Seeds (Fenugreek Seeds) 1 tsp – Mustard seeds 2 Dry Red Chillies (optional) 10-15 Curry leaves 1/2 tsp – Heeng (Asafoetida) 1 tsp – Kashmiri Red Chilli powder 1 tbsp – Tamarind Paste (or 10-12 Kokum Rinds) 1 tsp – Turmeric powder (Haldi) 2-3 cups water (more if required) Rock Salt to taste Method: 1. In a deep pan, heat three tablespoons of oil. Add slit okras (bhindi) and shallow fry them on medium flame. You just have to fry till the slimy texture is lost. This will take five to six minutes. Drain excess oil and keep it aside to be used later. 2. Now in a same heated oil, add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, heeng, curry leaves and dried red chillies. As they crackle and split up, quickly add gram flour (besan) and turn the flame to medium low. 3. Lightly roast besan till it gets well coated with oil and the aroma is right. At this stage you may also add turmeric powder. Be careful to not over roast. 4. To this, gradually add two cups of water with continuous whisking assuring there are no lumps formed. Once mixed, allow it to come to a boil and then keep it on low flame for couple of minutes. 5. Add red chilli powder, rock salt, all veggies of your choice followed by fried okra, ginger juliennes, slit green chillies and tomato chunks. 6. Allow it cook on a low flame covered for 10-15 minutes till potatoes come out tender. 7. Once done, add tamarind pulp and kokum rinds to adjust the sourness. Please note, the sourness will increase with time. So, do not over do with sour ingredients. 8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves. 9. Serve hot with steamed rice, sindhi papad, wafers or aloo tuk. Enjoy this comforting meal while staying safe in your beautiful homes. (Shalini Rajani is the founder of Crazy Kadchi and holds innovative and healthy cooking workshops for all age groups.)
  19. After being blocked from Apple's App Store, the new email service from Basecamp Hey is now available to download for iOS and iPadOS. Hey was previously only available through an invite-only preview after having spent two years in development. The new email service has now publicly launched after an update was released for the app with changes to meet App Store guidelines. Future updates for the app were initially blocked by Apple due to violations of its terms and conditions. Users who received an invite to Hey's preview first had to activate a subscription through the Basecamp website. However, Apple demanded that the company allow its users to sign up for the service directly through the app which would allow the iPhone maker to receive its 30 percent cut of the subscription fee. iOS 14 will finally allow users to change their default email and web browser apps We're all using email to share files, despite security risks Outlook will soon be able to write your emails for you In the end though, Apple gave Hey time to create a version of its app that meets its rules and this new version has now gone live. At WWDC 2020, the company also changed its policy to finally allow developers to challenge App Store guidelines. Hey email On the pricing page on its website, Hey makes the case that free email services such as Google's Gmail aren't actually free as users end up paying by giving up their privacy and personal data. Since the company doesn't sell ads or collect user data, Hey changes an annual subscription fee of $99. For that price, users get a @Hey.com address, 100GB of storage space, native apps for Mac, Windows, iOS, Android and Linux, spy pixel blocking and more. However, if someone wants an ultra-short email address made up of two or three characters, they'll have to pay either $999 or $349 per year respectively. Another notable feature of Hey email is The Screener. Essentially when someone sends an email to your @hey.com address for the first time they won't be able to get through right away. Instead their message will land in The Screener where users can decide with a simple yes or no whether they want to hear from them or not. Interested users can download the Hey email app now on Apple's App Store or in the Google Play Store and the company offers a 14-day free trial so you can test out the service for yourself.
  20. Pros Towing, payload, and power expected to be best in class All-new interior more functional and more luxurious Compelling hybrid joins the lineup as the top powertrain Innovative features include onboard generator, advanced safety Wide range of configurations and trim levels Cons Top levels of the F-150 typically get pricey Updated exterior styling still attractive, but not all that different Largest models can be tough to park and maneuver 450-horsepower high-output V6 dropped What’s New this year? New hybrid powertrain Redesigned body, all-new interior New onboard generator option New infotainment and tech People Also Ask Which Ford F-150 engine is best? We recommend the 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine, as it offers a great combination of power, fuel economy, and towing capability for the money. However, if you tow a large trailer on a regular basis, you may want to consider the 5.0-liter V8 or the 3.5-liter EcoBoost. Why is the F-150 so po[CENSORED]r? The Ford F-150 offers a wide variety of engines, trim levels, bed lengths, and wheelbases, making it easy to find the right combination for your needs that fits your budget. This truck also is consistently at the top of its class for towing and payload capacity, and Ford places a strong emphasis on both work innovations and luxury amenities. Is Ford making a hybrid truck? Yes. The 2021 model year is the first time the Ford F-150 will be available as a hybrid. Where is the 2021 F-150 built? The 2021 Ford F-150 will be built at the Dearborn Truck Plant in Dearborn, Michigan and the Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo, Missouri. The hybrid model, known as the PowerBoost, will be built exclusively in Dearborn. Overview The Ford F-150 has been the best-selling truck in America for 43 years because it consistently offers capability, value, innovation, and choice. With three cab sizes, three bed lengths, six powertrains, and six trim levels (not including Raptor), the F-150 gives buyers the opportunity to find a combination that suits their needs and their budget. Lately, the Ram 1500’s eTorque mild hybrid system, near-luxury interiors, and huge infotainment screen have wowed the public. The Chevrolet 1500’s impressive variety of models and engines and its outstanding 5-Year Cost to Own data make that truck easy to recommend. Yet the F-150 is still the best equipped for work and leisure, and no other truck matches the Ford when it comes to work solutions tech and convenience and safety features. For 2021, the Ford F-150 is essentially all-new. Ford updated the styling and redesigned the interior, which now features a new infotainment system and more work and storage solutions. There’s also a new hybrid powertrain option, as well as the availability of an onboard generator, and the company has updated almost every engine in the lineup. While Ford hasn’t yet announced power ratings or each model’s capabilities, we anticipate the 2021 F-150 will offer best-in-class horsepower, torque, towing, and payload capacity. Favorite Features POWERBOOST HYBRID ENGINE Ford’s full hybrid system uses a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, a 35 KW electric motor, and a 1.5 kWh lithium-ion battery mounted below the rear seat so it doesn’t take up passenger or bed space. Ford anticipates the F-150 with the PowerBoost will be able to tow at least 12,000 pounds while offering about 700 miles of range on a tank of gas. It also comes standard with Pro Power Onboard. PRO POWER ONBOARD With the Pro Power Onboard inverter, the F-150 can serve as a generator. There’s a 2.0-KW unit available for the 2.7- and 3.5-liter EcoBoost and the 5.0-liter V8. The 2.4-KW inverter comes standard with the hybrid. The 7.2-KW system, optional only with the hybrid, offers the most power. Ford gave an example: it can charge a plasma cutter, TIG welder, chop saw, air compressor, angle grinder, and work light simultaneously for up to 32 hours. 2021 Ford F-150 Interior The 2021 Ford F-150’s interior was totally redesigned with upgraded materials and new color combinations. The center stack – where you can find all the navigation, stereo, and climate controls – is all-new. It houses the truck’s standard 8-inch touchscreen, which is twice as big as the previous model’s standard screen. Sync 4, the newest version of Ford’s infotainment system, is standard. A 12-inch touchscreen is also available, which is a landscape (horizontal) layout that still leaves ample room for physical buttons and knobs. You can also get a digital gauge cluster with animations that show what terrain you’re on and the drive mode the truck is in. An optional Interior Work Surface creates a flat working area over the center console. If your F-150 doesn’t have the column-mounted shifter, you can fold down the console-mounted transmission shifter when you want to use the Work Surface. Then you push a button to stow the Surface in the center console when you’re done. If you need to grab some ZZZs between jobs or just want to feel like you’re flying first class, Ford now offers Max Recline seats that fold nearly flat. 2021 Ford F-150 Exterior Even though Ford has made changes to every piece of the 2021 F-150’s sheet metal, the end result is a truck that looks remarkably similar to its predecessor. It’s slightly wider, for a tougher stance, and the new grille and headlight designs reveal that it’s a 2021 model. There are 11 grilles and three different headlight designs, plus 13 different wheel designs that range from 17 to 22 inches. There are new extended-length power running boards can be lowered with a hands-free “kick switch,” and can also be set to stay down if you’re making multiple trips to load or unload cargo. In addition, every tailgate now comes with built-in clamp pockets, and there’s a new feature called the Tailgate Work Surface that includes integrated rulers, a cupholder, pencil holder, and smartphone/tablet holder. 2021 Ford F-150 Standard Features The base model of the 2021 Ford F-150, the XL, comes with a 3.3-liter V6 backed by a 10-speed automatic, comes as a rear-drive truck, and rides on 17-inch steel wheels. Its smallest cab is a regular cab. The basic fuel tank size is 23 gallons, but a 26- or 36-gallon tank is available. This truck has an 8-inch touchscreen that includes a digital version of the owner’s manual, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The F-150 is set up for over-the-air updates, which often happen in the background, and most are instantaneous. All F-150s come standard with some Ford Co-Pilot360 technology, including forward collision warning and dynamic brake support, hill start assist, pre-collision assist with auto emergency braking (with pedestrian detection), auto hold, and its rearview camera has dynamic hitch support, making it easier to line up the truck with a trailer. 2021 Ford F-150 Options You can choose two larger cabs – the extended cab SuperCab or the crew cab SuperCrew – and a 5-1/2-, 6-1/2-, or 8-foot bed. There are three wheelbase lengths as well. Trim levels continue in increasing price with XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. There are two different 4-wheel-drive systems, both of which have a flat tow mode. If you want more power than the 3.3-liter V6 offers, you can look at the twin-turbocharged 2.7- or 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8, the 3.0-liter Power Stroke V6 turbodiesel, or the 3.5-liter PowerBoost V6 hybrid. There are 11 grille styles, which vary based on trim level, and 13 wheel designs. There’s an available locking full-length fold-flat storage area that goes in the second row. You can even get a setup that lets you turn on and off individual exterior lights, which comes handy when you’re on the job site or camping. Ford’s tailgate step is still available, as is the Pro Trailer Backup Assist, where you use a knob to back your truck and trailer into place. Safety options include Active Drive Assist, active park assist, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane-centering and lane-keeping assists, and reverse brake assist. Interior options include a 12-inch touchscreen and a digital gauge cluster. The Interior Work Surface creates a flat working area over the center console. If your F-150 comes with a console-mounted transmission shifter, it folds down when you want to use the Work Surface. You can push a button to stow the Surface in the center console when you’re done. And Max Recline seats fold nearly flat. 2021 Ford F-150 Engine Ford hasn’t announced horsepower or torque numbers yet, but all five gasoline and diesel engines return for 2021 (though the Raptor’s High Output 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 doesn’t look like it’s going to make an appearance), and we expect some will receive minor updates. Also, Ford hasn’t announced fuel-economy numbers, but the use of active grille shutters, an automatic air dam, and a more aerodynamic body should improve fuel economy across the lineup. The base engine, a 3.3-liter V6, comes standard with a 10-speed automatic for the first time, which should improve fuel economy for that engine. For the PowerBoost hybrid, Ford is aiming for 700 miles of range on a single tank of gasoline. The PowerBoost uses a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 and a 35 KW electric motor that works with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It can run solely on electric power, but only for very short distances. How Much Does the 2021 Ford F-150 Cost? While Ford hasn’t announced official pricing yet, we expect the 2021 Ford F-150 pricing to start at just over $30,000 for a regular cab XL. Pricing will increase incrementally from there, as each trim level, going from the XLT to the Lariat, to the King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited, will come standard with more features and high-end luxury amenities. We expect the Limited 4×4 SuperCrew PowerBoost with every option could approach $80,000. That estimated base price is comparable to that of the Chevy Silverado 1500 and the Ram 1500, but nudges higher than the topline Silverado and Ram. To see what people in your area are paying for their new trucks, check out the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price. Based on the data we’ve gathered on previous F-150 models, we expect the resale value of the Ford F-150 to be comparable to that of its competitors. 2021 Ford F-150 Safety Technology Co-Pilot360 Ford’s inclusive suite of advanced driver assists includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, active park assist, automatic high beams, evasive steering assist, BLIS (blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert) and Lane Keeping. Some of this technology comes standard, and other features are available with higher trim levels. 360-Degree camera This optional feature allows a complete 360-degree view around the vehicle, particularly helpful given the F-150’s elevated height and numerous low-level blind spots. This camera is also useful when backing up the F-150 while towing a trailer. Active Drive Assist This optional feature will have a camera that faces the driver to track the driver’s head and eye position to sense if the driver is getting drowsy. This is designed to be a more accurate system than one that solely uses steering wheel inputs. This technology will also offer the option of some hands-free driving. The prep kit will be available soon, and an over-the-air update will activate the system in the third quarter of 2021. Intersection Assist If you’re turning left at an intersection and there’s a risk of a crash with an oncoming vehicle, the optional Intersection Assist will apply the brakes to avoid a crash.
  21. Princeton University says it is to remove the name of former US President Woodrow Wilson from a building on its campus because of his racist beliefs and policies. The move follows a wave of protests across the US sparked by the death of African-American man George Floyd. Wilson was US president from 1913 to 1921 and helped to establish the League of Nations, a forerunner of the UN. However, he supported segregation and imposed it on several federal agencies. He also barred black students from Princeton while serving as university president and spoke approvingly of the Ku Klux Klan. In a separate development on Saturday, the lower house of the Mississippi state congress passed a resolution that could remove the Confederate emblem - now viewed by many as a racist symbol - from the state flag. Mississippi's Republican Governor Tate Reeves tweeted that he would sign a bill to change the current flag if the legislation was approved, saying arguments over the 1894 emblem had become as divisive as the flag itself. The measure now moves to a Senate committee before going to the chamber. Outlining the university's decision on Saturday to remove Wilson's name, Princeton president Christopher Eisgruber said in a statement that "Wilson's racism was significant and consequential even by the standards of his own time". He said that the board of trustees had concluded that "Wilson's racist views and policies make him an inappropriate namesake" for the university's public policy school. A residential college will also lose Wilson's name. The name of the school will be changed to the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs. Mr Eisgruber said Princeton had honoured President Wilson "not because of, but without regard to or perhaps even in ignorance of, his racism". "That, however, is ultimately the problem," he added. "Princeton is part of an America that has too often disregarded, ignored, or excused racism, allowing the persistence of systems that discriminate against black people." Earlier this month, Monmouth University in New Jersey removed Woodrow Wilson's name from one of its most prominent buildings. The depth of feeling that followed the death of George Floyd has led to renewed demands for an end to institutional racism. In the US and other countries statues of controversial historical figures have either been pulled down or taken down. However, US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order calling for protesters who target monuments to be imprisoned.
  22. Whether you’re looking for the best gaming keyboard, a clacker for everyday use or a professional peripheral, it’s all about touch. That’s why mechanical keyboards are the cream of the crop: They offer a more premium typing experience that won’t tire your fingers or feel mushy like a membrane or other types of keyboards. And that “experience” doesn’t always have to feel the same either. There was a time when Cherry had a hold on mechanical switch technology, but now there’s an incredible amount of companies making switches. There’s Kailh, Gateron and Outemu to start, and there are even peripheral vendors, like Razer, Logitech and HyperX, making their own switches. With the perfect switch for your preference, typing is infinitely more fun. You may even find yourself typing faster, more accurately and with less fatigue. Whether you prefer tactile mechanical switches that feature a bump as you press, linear switches that go straight down, something extra loud and clicky or extra low and speedy, it’s all about the switch. In this article, we’ll show you the easiest way to change a mechanical keyboard’s switches and install your favorite ones. But before we get into the how, let’s quickly discuss the why. Why Would I Want to Swap Out My Keyboard’s Switches? There are a few reasons to consider changing switches on your mechanical keyboard. One case is if you want a different feel for some keys compared to others. For example, some people like having a spacebar that’s stiffer than the rest of the keys. Another reason to switch out switches is if your favorite switch or one that you’d just like to try is hard to find in a pre-built keyboard. For example, one of my fellow Tom’s Hardware editors loves typing on Kailh Box White switches, but those aren’t as prominent in as, say, Cherry MX Blue switches. And the Kailh Silent Red switches I’m installing for this article aren’t available in any keyboards yet. Finally, maybe you just want some variety. By replacing the switches, you can get an entirely new experience without having to buy a new keyboard. It’s like having multiple keyboards in one shell. Swapping out switches is often easier on your budget than buying numerous keyboards; however, whether or not it’s easier than just buying another keyboard is debatable. How to Swap Out Your Keyboard’s Switches Easily Below we’ll detail the easiest way to get your ideal typing experience by changing a keyboard’s hot-swappable mechanical switches. 1. Get Your Switches If you’re considering changing a keyboard’s switches, chances are you already have a switch type in mind. If not, do your research. Remember, you can try out different switch types by buying a switch tester for about $20-$30. These are readily available, including via Amazon, and are usually available sold by switch brand (Cherry MX, Gateron, et cetera). Vendor websites also have descriptions of their switches, including total travel, actuation point and force required. If you already know what one switch feels like, you can compare its specs to other switch types to get a sense of ones you haven’t tried before. There are a few places you can buy switches. Amazon has a selection, and a number of enthusiast sites sell them too, including AliExpress, MechanicalKeyboards, 1UPKeyboards and Drop. For this article, I used Kailh Silent Red Switches, which you can buy at NovelKeys. 2. Get a How-Swappable Keyboard The easiest way to get new switches into a keyboard is to buy a hot-swappable keyboard. You can change the switches in other mechanical keyboards, but it requires soldering, which adds to the level of difficulty. With a hot swappable keyboard, you can change the switches in your board even if you don’t have any experience. It’ll also be pretty quick: it took me about 90 minutes to change the switches in my full-sized, hot-swappable keyboard. Whether you’re looking for a full-sized keyboard or something smaller, make sure you look for ones with “hot-swappable,’ “hot swap” or “modular” switches. Since you'll be putting more work into this than your average keyboard, make sure the board has any features you deem necessary, such as macro keys, media keys, RGB lighting or n-key rollover. You’ll also want to consider keycaps, but if you’re willing to swap your switches, you may also be interested in installing custom keycaps. For example, the HyperX pudding keycaps I recently tried boost the RGB effect, while there are plenty of others that are just plain cute and / or works of art. Just keep in mind that some switches outside of the Cherry brand don’t accept standard keycaps. So make sure the switches you want to use will accept the keycaps you have / want (and vice versa). Another option is to build a keyboard from scratch. This is a much more involved practice that will require picking your own chassis, getting a PCB and selecting switches, keycaps and stabilizers. Of course if you go this route, you also won’t have to remove pre-installed switches either. For demonstration purposes, I went for the prebuilt Glorious Modular Mechanical Keyboard (GMMK) Pre-Built because it’s from a brand I know at a decent price, typically selling for around $100 with its aluminum faceplate. If you do opt for a hot-swappable keyboard, it’d be wise to get one with switches you’re interested in using too. The GMMK’s tactile Gateron Brown switches are a good alternative to the linear Kailh switches I’m installing. There’s also a cheaper version of this keyboard without any switches pre-installed or keycaps. Our keyboard came with a keycap puller, and there’s even storage for it in the back. If you’re getting a bag of switches though, you’ll likely get another keycap puller. Pullers are pretty cheap, but keyboard storage is a nice touch that should keep you from losing the puller when you aren’t using it. There are plenty of other hot-swappable keyboards out there. Many come from niche or enthusiast typing brands. If you’re after a more mainstream brand or Logitech’s switches, you’ll want to consider the Logitech G Pro X. 3. Click, Click Pull: Removing Keycaps Your hot-swappable keyboard will come with a keycap puller. The puller will have a place to either insert or rest your pointer finger so you can pull keycaps directly up and off the keyboard with one hand (although you may want to hold the keyboard in place with your other hand). You should be careful with the puller to avoid getting scratches on your keycaps. Even if your puller is plastic, it’s still possible for it to mar a plastic keycap. To remove a keycap, get the pullers’ two arms underneath two sides -- the left and the right or top and bottom -- of the keycap. With the plastic keycap puller included with the Glorious keyboard, you can hear a click as each arm slides underneath the keycap, letting you know the puller’s properly anchored. There are other types of pullers though. Perhaps your puller is like a pair of tongs, as pictured below. You’ll still need to make sure each arm is securely underneath two sides of the keycap. With the example below, I could see if the metal arms were under the keycaps. But if you’re ever not sure, just give the puller a gentle tug. If neither of the arms makes itself visible, both arms are where they need to be. If you start yanking before the puller’s properly anchored, you could end up scratching the keycap. There won’t be any noise or resistance when you’re pulling the keycap puller straight up if you’re doing things right. It’s possible for a switch to come out when you pull a keycap out; that’s normal. When the keycap’s off the keyboard, make sure you don't accidentally scratch it when removing it from the puller. This was possible with the plastic puller that came with my keyboard. To avoid this, I pushed the keycap up toward the fattest part of the puller's opening, before sliding the keycap out. It took me about 25 minutes to remove all the keycaps on my full-sized keyboard. This was with me doing it leisurely, so you could do it faster if desired. 4. Keep Your Caps in Order Unless you’re also adding new keycaps, you’ll be putting the keycaps back on soon. You’ll save yourself a lot of puzzle-work if you remove them in a logical order and then store them in a keyboard layout. I worked my way from the left to right, bottom top and placed my keyboards on a table in order of removal. During breaks and after every keycap was off, I covered it with the plastic cover that came with the keyboard to prevent them from being lost or getting rearranged inadvertently. If you don’t have a large workspace and/or already threw that plastic cover away, at least get a sandwich bag or some sort of storage, so you don’t end up with a keyboard without a J key. 5. Pull the Switch(es) Now that all the keycaps are gone, it’s time to pluck out the switches with the tool included with your hot-swappable keyboard or a separately purchased switch puller. There are tiny tabs on the top and bottom of each switch. Use your tool to hook under those two tabs before squeezing them. This will press the tabs in, allowing you to pull the whole switch directly upward. My keyboard came with a metal tool for removing the switches, so it’d be pretty easy to scratch up the keyboard if you’re careless. It’s even easier than getting a scratch on the keycap with the plastic keycap puller. The tool you use may differ though. As you can see in the photo below, the Logitech G Pro X hot-swappable keyboard comes with a plastic switch puller. I started pulling switches from the middle row of the keyboard, since scratches there would be less prominent. By the time I worked my way to the outer areas where scratches would bother me, I was used to the rhythm of plucking the switches with ease. Unlike the keycaps, it doesn't matter which switch you put in each socket, so you don’t have to worry about keeping the switches in order. You could use a sandwich bag again, but since there are two thin pins sticking out of each switch, I put mine in a box to avoid accidentally bending the pins. I would’ve finished in about 35 minutes, but I had some trouble with the stabilizers surrounding my numpad’s plus and enter keys. I tried for a while to remove the switches without removing and reapplying the stabilizers but couldn’t swing it. 6. Swap It Like It’s Hot: Insert the New Switches If you want, you can have your keyboard plugged into a PC while you insert the new switches. This will let you easily ensure each switch is properly inserted and working before you move onto the next one. When inserting a switch, make sure its two copper pins are on the south side and going into the respective holes straight down. It’s not hard to press the switch in, and you should hear a loud clicking noise (the switch’s two tabs clicking in) when you press in firmly. The switch can be in the keyboard without being fully inserted, so the click is how you know the switch is really in. Installing a new set of switches into my full-sized keyboard took me about 12 minutes. 7. Put the Kaycaps Back On If you kept your keycaps in order, like I recommended above, this should be a breeze. Be sure to press each keycap down firmly and straight, so that they’re secure and as far down the switch’s crosstem as possible. It took me 8 minutes and 30 seconds to put all my keycaps back on. But Wait, Some Keys Aren’t Working! I wouldn’t be surprised if you find out some keys aren’t working after completing this process. After I finished swapping my GMMK’s switches, I eventually found that three keys weren’t actuating. As mentioned, you could avoid this by having the keyboard on and plugged in and checking that each switch is working before topping it with a keycap. This is the joy of hot-swappable switches! But if you find one or some of your keys aren’t working, don’t panic. This is an easy fix. First, try pressing down firm on the key that isn’t working. It’s possible you didn’t put the keycap on all the way, preventing the switch from getting actuated. If that doesn’t fix things, carefully remove the keycap and the switch. Look at the switch’s pins. Are they bent? If so, straighten them out carefully. I was able to shape my slanted pins with my fingertips and recruited tweezers to mani[CENSORED]te ones that were too flatly folded down for my fingers to lift on their own. Once both pins are straight, reinsert the switch and then the keycap, making sure both are pressed in firmly and securely. Swap Again There you go! You now have a keyboard that should have the ideal type of feel for each key. And if you don’t or want to try out even more switches, feel free to swap again. You can repeat the process over and over again until your fingers are numb -- although we recommend waiting until the feeling returns before enjoying your perfectly crafted keyboard.
