Whether you’re building a new PC or upgrading a system that now struggles to compete with today's best gaming pcs, the best RAM kit for your money depends on the platform you pick and the software you plan to run. Every desktop sold in recent years uses DDR4 RAM and supports at least DDR4-2133 speeds. That’s the easy part. The hard part is understanding when faster memory matters when choosing the best RAM. If you’re running an Intel-based PC with an add-in graphics card, most programs won’t respond in a meaningful way to faster or slower system memory. A few will scale upward with data rate to the highest possible speeds, including some games and programs like the file compression program 7-Zip. Cyber Monday deals: see all the best offers right now! On the other hand, AMD’s Zen-based architectures are affected much more by memory speeds. The company’s “Infinity Fabric” (the internal bits that link various blocks of logic inside of Ryzen CPUs) is tied to the speed of the memory bus. You can read about this in detail here. So, increased memory speeds on Ryzen- and Threadripper-based platforms often translate to real-world performance gains. In games, that means faster frame rates at mainstream resolutions like 1080p, as well as smoother performance at higher resolutions. Lastly, memory speed makes a big difference if you’re gaming on an integrated graphics engine using either Intel or AMD processors. Since the graphics silicon baked into CPUs doesn’t generally have its own dedicated memory (as discrete graphics cards do), upping the clock rate of your system memory also generally increases performance (though the ultimate speed-up varies greatly from game to game). So, the best RAM for those kinds of systems is faster RAM if mainstream gaming is important to you. Keep in mind, however, that if you have to pay top dollar for the fastest RAM to get playable framerates, you’re better off buying slower system memory and an add-in graphics card. In short, the best RAM for you is faster memory if you’re gaming without a dedicated graphics card, if you’re running an AMD Ryzen system, and in some edge cases with Intel chips. But if you don’t care so much about squeezing the best performance possible from your hardware, DDR4-2133 memory should be drop-in compatible with any modern PC platform. Quick RAM Shopping Tips For many people, 16GB is the current sweet spot. Programs get bigger and messier over time, 1080p and 4K video are now common, PC game files are always expanding, and websites get more complex by the day. While heavy multitaskers and power users may need 32GB to keep from tapping into much slower disk-based virtual memory, 16GB is far more affordable, and sufficient for gaming and mainstream productivity tasks. Memory speeds advertised as part of an XMP profile might not be achievable on AMD-based motherboards. XMP is a sort of automatic memory overclocking setting that was designed for Intel motherboards. Some motherboard makers offer BIOS settings to help you achieve these faster speeds on AMD motherboards. But these settings aren’t present on all boards, and they don’t always work when they are present. Want the fastest RAM speed on an Intel platform? Get a K-series CPU. Non-K-series Core i7 and Core i5 processors have the same DDR4-2666 limit as that imposed by Intel’s lesser H370 and B360 chipsets. Core i3 processors have a lower limit of DDR4-2400. While most boards lack XMP, those that have it will more easily configure XMP memory with enhanced timings. TeamGroup did a great job with the Xtreem ARGB DDR4-3600 C14 memory kit -- It certainly ticks all the right boxes. The memory kit looks awesome when lit up or powered down, and performs equally well. In fact, the Xtreem ARGB is the fastest DDR4-3600 C14 memory kit that we've tested so far. The memory market only has a handful of DDR4-3600 C14 memory kits at the 16GB (2x8GB) capacity. And with a price tag of $169.99, the Xtreem ARGB is the least expensive of them all. The only gripe we have with is with its availability. Newegg is currently the only retailer that lists the memory kit, so it could be a challenge to find. For those with a board that can handle its top speed and games or workloads that can take advantage of it, Patriot’s Viper Steel DDR4-4400 16GB kit is an excellent high-performance option that also skips RGB. Keeping the kit simple has allowed Patriot to equip the Viper Steel with enhanced timings that dramatically boost the performance of certain programs, including some games. Since the market for pure gaming rigs and focused builds designed for singular tasks is still competitive, the Viper Steel DDR4-4400 sits comfortably in this niche. Patriot bucks the trend of pairing cosmetic features with mainstream DRAM ICs, instead pushing data rates up to 4,133 megahertz (MHz) on its Viper RGB. This DDR4-3600 kit is only $10 more than the white-LED version and several dollars cheaper than competing products with similar latency. That makes it a great value at this speed, though slower kits have greater pricing advantages. The fastest DDR4-3600 kit we’ve tested, Patriot’s Viper RGB DDR4-3600 kit provides great value to buyers who want both go (overclocking capability) and show (RGB LEDs). It may not have fancy software-controlled RGB lights, and there are faster kits on offer for higher prices, as well as budget-priced kits that cost less. But for many who don’t want or need their memory to glow like a rainbow, Patriot's Viper 4 DDR4-3400 C16 16GB (PV416G340C6K) sits in a sweet spot of price and performance. The kit includes two 8GB modules rated with XMP values of DDR4-3400 CAS 16-18-18-36. Those last three number aren't great, but it's important for DDR3 lovers to remember that 16 cycles at 3400 MHz data rate have the same latency time as 8 cycles at 1700 MHz data rate. This kit is an excellent DRAM overclocking value, while also providing some stylish red heatsinks to make sure your memory looks good enough to show off in your windowed case. Builders who put a premium on aesthetics often face a tough choice between the best-looking and best-performance parts. Corsair brings a bit of both in its Vengeance RGB DDR4-3200 kit, providing four 8GB DIMMs (32GB total) at CAS 16 timings for a price that’s reasonably moderate given recent market trends. And this kit isn't all about looks; it has the goods where benchmarks are concerned, too. Superb performance and moderate pricing earns the Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4-3200 our Editor's Choice Award for RGB-equipped memory, though its pastel colors might be off-putting to a few builders. Corsair’s kit beat our previous favorite, the HyperX Predator RGB, in overall performance at every speed, barring the DDR4-4000 setting that it didn’t reach. Corsair also provides a better-performing XMP value and a lower price than the competition, making the Vengeance RGB Pro the uncompromised winner here, and an excellent addition to your next RGB build.

Promising a “new era for mobile,” Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon looked to show off how the next-generation networks really can be what he called, “the technology that pushes all the limits.” Check out our list of the best business smartphones available Here's our list of the best business mobile plans right now We've built a list of the best business tablets out there Premuim 5G “We’re delivering the technologies that define premium experiences with 5G,” Amon noted. "And we set the standard because our platforms are built on decades of advanced R&D, with $66 billion invested across all facets of mobile tech." He went on to explain that Qualcomm enjoys an “unrivalled” global ecosystem that allows the company to push its research even further. "These relationships, in concert with R&D, scale, and expertise, make Qualcomm synonymous with premium,” Amon said. Qualcomm says it expects between 450 and 550 million 5G-enabled smartphones will be shipped worldwide in 2021, a number that is set to rise to over 750 million by 2022 as the networks stretch across the world. With the company recently conducting research that found 5G connectivity impacts the choice of device for 50% of consumers, the need for full support and innovation in 5G is paramount. When it comes to wider 5G rollouts, Amon (pictured above) highlighted the importance of technologies such as mmWave and DSS in helping push nationwide deployment. Amon noted that 130 operators across the world are already investing in mmWave, which will allow the use of extremely high frequency spectrum for superfast connections, hopefully meaning superior performance for networks all round. Elsewhere, 4G and 5G DSS should help operators to roll out truly nationwide coverage, allowing a quick transition between new and existing networks. On the phones themselves, it isn’t just faster network connectivity that Qualcomm was keen to talk about, as the company showed off its 6th generation AI Engine within its latest chipsets. Powering functions from processing to security to real-time translation, the AI capabilities in the company’s Snapdragon hardware is set to allow your smartphone to do more than ever. “(AI) is one feature that has outpaced all others in terms of processing demands, and it is set to evolve even further with 5G,” Amon noted. All of this should mean that phone users across industries, whether business or consumer, should see major performance and reliability increases within the next few years as the world truly embraces 5G networks. “The potential of 5G is astounding,” Amon said, highlighting how the technology can play a huge role in connecting the “new enterprise” (including SMBs and multinational organizations) as they cope with the post-pandemic world. “The goal of 5G is to be connecting everything to the cloud, all the time,” Amon noted. “(It) will be the driver of the future digital economy (and) it's going to be part of a digital transformation of many enterprises.” These are the best 5G phones you can buy today

Skoda will finally bring its ever-po[CENSORED]r Fabia supermini back into line with its Volkswagen Group siblings with an all-new version next year, and an early sighting of a prototype has given us our first look at its new look Images captured by Czech site portál ridiče show a development mule undergoing testing on public roads, which - despite heavy camouflage - can be seen to take styling cues from newer Skoda models including the Octavia and Scala. The rear end, especially, looks to have been brought into line with the Czech maker's other models with a thicker bumper and a flat panel between the reshaped brake lights, which will likely bear the model's name. Images of the side and front of the car are less clear, so it is difficult to make out much of the car's overall design, but we're expecting a greater leap than the Fabia made between its second and third generations. Plans to bring the fourth-generation Fabia to market in 2022 have been revised to reduce the complexity of having older and newer platforms produced at the same time within the group. As such, it will be revealed in the first half of next year, with first examples expected to arrive in UK showrooms well before the end of 2021. The current architecture of the Fabia, a re-engineered version of a platform first used back in 2008, will be junked in favour of purely MQB A0 underpinnings. That’s the same platform used by the Audi A1 Sportback, Seat Ibiza and Volkswagen Polo – as evidenced by the Polo-based Fabia development mules that were spotted recently. Crucially, this platform will ensure the Czech supermini is no longer the poor relation of the family. The interior is likely to receive the biggest overhaul, however, given that the current Fabia’s dashboard design and technology are now off the pace compared with the Volkswagen Group standard. As such, a revised layout, much larger and clearer displays and Skoda’s latest infotainment system and connectivity features will be introduced. Despite wider group plans, the Fabia won’t offer any form of electrification initially – not even mild-hybrid engines. Insiders tell us this will keep the Fabia affordable at its core, appealing to drivers who are put off by the influx of superminis moving up to and even beyond £25,000. As electrified powertrain technology becomes more attainable in future, however, it could be brought across from other group models. As such, the new Fabia’s engines will be familiar, albeit now without any diesels. The turbocharged three-cylinder petrol TSI will sit at the heart of the range in varying power outputs, while more powerful four-cylinder engines (and a cheaper naturally aspirated three-pot) could also be used. We won’t see the return of the vRS badge, but sources say the po[CENSORED]rity of today’s top-tier Monte Carlo model will mean a greater emphasis on sportiness (visually or otherwise) higher up the range. The switch to the MQB platform should also yield noticeable forward strides in the fields of refinement and comfort. The current Fabia remains one of the more spacious in its class, so actual size may not change, however. We expect prices for the Fabia to increase beyond the £12,990 base price of today’s model but not significantly so.

Rabat – The Jewish community of South Africa has expressed support for Morocco’s action in Guerguerat, calling on Pretoria to encourage the Moroccan initiative to restore stability in the region. Morocco’s state media shared a press release from the Moroccan Jewish community in Johannesburg-Pretoria, who reaffirmed support for King Mohammed VI and his initiatives. In the statement, the Jewish community in South Africa called on Pretoria, as a member of the UN Security Council, to support Morocco’s action in Guerguerat against Polisario’s provocations. South Africa is among the few countries that support Polisario’s independence claims, challenging Morocco’s territorial integrity. Along with Algeria, South Africa does not miss any opportunity to peddle hostile, erroneous statements about Morocco’s territorial integrity. In September during the UN General Assembly, the leaders of both countries dedicated parts of their speeches to expressing support for Polisario. South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa and Algeria’s Abdelmadjid Tebboune renewed their hostile position on Morocco’s cause, emphasizing their determination to continue to support the separatist Polisario Front. The Moroccan Jewish community, however, expressed determination to urge Pretroria to stand with Morocco’s peaceful actions to restore stability in the border area of Guerguerat and to ensure free movement and traffic of goods to African countries. “We also launch a strong appeal to the Secretary General of the United Nations, to all members of the Security Council and to the European Union to support Morocco in establishing peace and security in the region,” Rabbi Abihou Levy, president of the Moroccan Jewich community in Johannesburg-Pretoria, said in Tuesday’s statement. The Jewish community in Pretoria was not the first to express support for and loyalty to King Mohammed VI. The Moroccan Jewish communities in Belgium and in Mexico also shared the same sentiments. They expressed support for Morocco in its action against Polisario’s provocations, as well as their attachment to their homeland.

The Thermaltake Toughpower PF1 with 850-watt max power is a decent PSU, but it cannot compete with the leaders in this price range (>$170), where the competition is stiff. The Corsair HX850 and the Seasonic Focus Plus Platinum with similar capacity offer higher performance, so the Toughpower PF1 850 isn't among our best PSU picks. With a notable discount, this unit would be much more attractive since it packs many good features. We have already taken a look at the Toughpower PF1 with 750W max power, which left a good impression. It is time now for the strongest member of the line to prove its worth. With 850W capacity, this PSU can handle a power-hungry CPU and GPU combo, for example, an Intel i9-10900K or AMD Ryzen 9 5950x and an Nvidia RTX 3080 or AMD RX 6800XT. HKC makes all Thermaltake PF1 units. This OEM is not as po[CENSORED]r as CWT, Great Wall, FSP, and the other large manufacturers, and it is mostly enrolled in mainstream categories. That said, it is nice to see a new player in the high-end category since it breaks the monotony and provides more choices to buyers. It has to offer good performance though, to meet the competition in this category. On the 80 PLUS scale, the PF1 850 is classified as Platinum, while in Cybenetics, it earns the ETA-A and LAMBDA-A- efficiency and noise ratings. All cables are modular, and the cooling fan uses a hydraulic bearing with long life under normal operating temperatures. Finally, the PSU features semi-passive operation, meaning that its cooling fan doesn't spin at low loads to keep the noise output low. You can toggle this mode off if you want the fan to run constantly. There are plenty of cables and connectors, including two EPS, six PCIe, twelve SATA and four 4-pin Molex. There is even an FDD adapter provided for those of you that might need one. Cable length is satisfactory, and it is nice to see an adequate distance between the peripheral connectors. Lastly, there are no in-cable caps, which make cable routing a tough task. Component Analysis We strongly encourage you to have a look at our PSUs 101 article, which provides valuable information about PSUs and their operation, allowing you to better understand the components we're about to discuss. This a platform by HKC, a manufacturer that we have never encountered before in the high-end category. The design is clean, allowing for increased airflow, and the lack of proper heat sinks on the secondary side makes a huge impression. On the contrary, the heat sink on the primary side is quite large, always for this efficiency category's standards. HKC used good electrolytic caps and an HDB fan. The FETs look to be of good quality, too. The transient filter does a decent job of suppressing EMI emissions. The only problem is that it doesn't include an MOV, which protects against voltage surges. Finally, there is an NTC thermistor-relay combo for lowering the inrush currents. The 12V FETs are soldered on the top side of the PCB. Usually, these FETs are on the PCB's solder side, and some manufacturers also use the PSU's chassis to cool them down through thermal pads. The advantage of having them in this area is that the unit's fan can directly cool them. A pair of VRMs generate the minor rails, having in total four FETs and two PWM controllers. All electrolytic caps on the secondary side are provided by Chemi-Con, while NIC makes the polymer caps. HKC used quality caps to offer a longer life on this platform. The cooling fan measures 120mm across, and it uses a hydraulic bearing, so it will have a long life as long as you don't stress it with high operating temperatures (greater than 40 degrees Celsius).

Mazda is poised to offer a version of the new Toyota Yaris Hybrid supermini in Europe within the next two years, potentially as a replacement for the current Mazda 2. The two Japanese car makers have a long-running technical partnership that includes working on future electric vehicles. In a presentation to accompany its latest financial results, Mazda outlined how it aims to use its partnerships with other manufacturers to enhance and grow its range. This includes a plan to offer an “OEM-supplied model based on Yaris THS [Toyota Hybrid System]” in Europe within the next two years. That suggests the model would be built for Mazda by Toyota, likely alongside the Yaris at its factory in northern France. Having a hybrid-powered hatchback would help Mazda to meet its European Union CO2 emissions target. This would also benefit Toyota, because the two firms have formed a manufacturer pool to share their fleet targets. Mazda’s Yaris-based model would potentially replace the current 2, which has been on sale since 2014 and doesn’t feature a hybrid powertrain, although it’s possible that the two hatchbacks could be offered alongside one another for a limited time. With Toyota producing the model for Mazda, it’s unlikely that the latter firm’s innovative compression-ignition petrol engines would be offered. Mazda UK declined to comment on when the new model would be available or if it would take over the 2 name. In a statement issued to Autocar, it said: “We’re continuing with our multi-solution approach that offers appropriate solutions to match power mix, uniqueness and customer needs in each country and region. “As one of the multi-solution measures, we concluded that the THS is the optimum solution to respond to each region’s needs and requirements. “This collaboration is the result of discussions based on our Toyota-Mazda partnership policy to use both companies’ business resources efficiently while respecting each other’s brand and management independence.” The deal follows one Toyota recently made with Suzuki to make rebadged versions of the Corolla hybrid estate and RAV4 plug-in hybrid SUV, named the Swace and Across respectively. Notably, the 2 was used as the basis of the Yaris sold in the US – until both models were discontinued in that market last year due to slow sales.
