  2. Mauro Icardi and Neymar scored as Paris Saint-Germain sealed an eighth consecutive Trophee des Champions against Marseille. Mauricio Pochettino secured the first trophy of his managerial career as Paris Saint-Germain edged past Marseille 2-1 in the Trophee des Champions on Wednesday. In just his third game in charge of the French giants, former Tottenham boss Pochettino watched his side claim the trophy for the eighth consecutive year without ever having to get out of second gear. Mauro Icardi got them on their way, sliding in from close range after 39 minutes before Neymar, making his first appearance in a month after an ankle injury, added a second from the penalty spot five minutes from time. Dimitri Payet pulled one back for Marseille in the 89th minute, but PSG held on to claim a deserved win.

  3. Agadir – Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has just announced a new route connecting Dakhla and Paris, with the first flight taking place on February 12. RAM said it established the route in close collaboration with the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT). Connecting continental Europe with Dakhla, the new flight route will be the first of its kind. There will be two flights per week, according to RAM’s press release: Tuesdays and Fridays. The flights from Paris are scheduled to leave at 9:45 a.m., arriving at 2:25 p.m., while flights departing from Dakhla are scheduled to leave at 3:25 p.m. for an arrival in Paris at 7:45 p.m. “Royal Air Maroc has always supported Moroccan tourism. In these times of crisis, it is necessary to work together to revive this strategic sector for our country,” said Hamid Addou, the Chairman and CEO of RAM. He noted that the new route will connect France, a major source of tourism, to Dakhla, an increasingly po[CENSORED]r tourist destination. Airlines have scrambled to establish new flight routes in the face of a global health crisis. They have similarly attempted to revitalise interest in what were once po[CENSORED]r tourist destinations. As they attempt to recover from the harsh repercussions of the global pandemic, airlines are determined to reach out to the limited number of people who can still afford to travel in these uncertain times. As Morocco and Israel strengthen their ties, Casablanca-Tel Aviv has become a newly contested route, with several airlines promising flights connecting the destinations. RAM has also announced flights connecting Casablanca and Dubai, as well as intensifying its domestic flights program.

  7. Priyanka Chopra Jonas is all set to start the new year with her new series, The White Tiger. But before that, she has featured on The Sunday Times Style making the wait for her on-screen appearance worth it. While Priyanka looked gorgeous in the pictures, it was her hairdo that had all our attention. Styled by Molly Haylor, in one of the pictures, the actor was seen looking sharp in a bottle green ensemble — a plain top with elaborate sleeves and matching pants. But her chic hairdo simply stole the show. In another look, she went for an elaborate black outfit that featured golden and white work. This time, it was her footwear that set the look apart, and also added a pop of colour. On the cover, she was spotted in a burnt orange sheer dress. We dig the collar and the way the look was rounded out with bright lipstick and a messy hairdo. For the final look, she experimented with a brown cardigan teamed with a tulle stole. In another look, she kept it simple and understated in a black and green patterned overcoat. She recently also treated her fans with a throwback picture, captioning it: “Lean, mean and all of 17!!!”

  8. The Blaugrana manager is feeling positive about his team's recent form ahead of the first trophy available this season, and his star man is available Lionel Messi has overcome a knock to be available for Barcelona's Supercopa de Espana semi-final against Real Sociedad, as Ronald Koeman looks to take a step closer to his first trophy as coach. Messi had, according to Koeman, some "discomfort" after Barca's resounding 4-0 win at Granada on Saturday, the Argentinian scoring twice as both he and the team appeared to be finding their feet again. That was the Blaugrana's third La Liga win in a row – all of which came away from home – and they are unbeaten in eight across all competitions since the 3-0 home defeat by Juventus on December 8. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Barca's improvement has coincided with Messi finding some joy in his game again – the club captain has scored seven times and set up another two in his past seven games, racking up more goal involvements than any other La Liga player over the same period. In his 10 previous league games this term, Messi had only contributed to four goals in total – none of which were assists – suggesting his mind was elsewhere following an attempt to leave the club, but he and Barca are looking significantly improved as they head into the Supercopa, with their star man fit for Wednesday's semi-final. "There are several players with discomfort, one of them is Messi, that is why we withdrew him in Granada," Koeman said on Tuesday. "It seems that everyone is available for tomorrow, also [Ronald] Araujo, although a preparatory session is missing. It is a match against a strong team and we can take the next step." Koeman recognises Barca have looked more like their old selves in recent weeks, particularly in attack. Since December 9, the four men with the most chances created in La Liga are Barca players. "The team is better offensively, we have more players coming from the middle of the field," Koeman said. "We have players in attack who do damage, and defensively the team is working well. We have gained in confidence. "Lately the team is focused on every game - we have improved in this regard. When we don't have the ball, the team is quite compact. We are improving our game. "Midfield players give us a lot of threat, but at the beginning of the season we already played with Messi as a false nine. The difference is that the team is more confident and we find free men between the lines." Wednesday's contest against La Real in Cordoba will be Koeman's first semi-final in charge, with the winners set to play Real Madrid or Athletic Bilbao in the final. While the Dutchman sees it as a great opportunity for silverware, he does not think victory in this competition will instantly mean Barcelona are back to the levels expected of them. "For us it is important, Barca is made to win. It is not the most important trophy, but we have to play the semi-final and we will give our best," he said. "We will play with our best team to be in the final. We want to take the first step to reach it. "I don't think that winning the trophy means being better. Soccer is fickle and things can change quickly. It [winning the trophy] would give us confidence, of course, but we have to go step by step, the first thing is to win the semi-final against Real Sociedad."

  12. Honda’s plan to electrify its line-up by 2022 won’t extend to the next Civic Type R, which will retain a high-output turbo petrol engine, Autocar has learned. In late 2019, Honda brought forward its plan to offer hybrid or fully electric variants of every mainstream model from 2025 to 2022 due to “the pace of change in regulation, the market and consumer behaviour in Europe”, said Honda Europe’s senior vice-president, Tom Gardner. But that plan will exclude the upcoming Type R version of the 11th-generation Civic, which, when it arrives in 2022, will be one of the last purely petrol-powered Hondas on sale. An “ultimate high-performance” Type R will return once again, Honda confirmed during the unveiling of the next Civic in prototype, US-focused saloon form. The standard car will be launched globally in the spring, with UK deliveries expected before the end of this year. The Type R will arrive a few months after that. With the hatchback bodystyle vastly more po[CENSORED]r than the saloon in Western Europe, it’s expected that the Type R will once again be based on the five-door. The outlandish design of the current car will evolve but is unlikely to be toned down too much – and Honda may offer a more subtly styled, wingless Sport Line variant as with the current model. Spy shots of the next-gen Type R support this idea while also revealing what appears to be a longer wheelbase than today’s car to boost passenger space. Honda promises a “dramatic interior makeover” for the Mk11 Civic. Expect perceived quality improvements and a more mature look and feel, plus substantially overhauled infotainment, since Honda bosses have previously admitted to Autocar that the company is currently behind other firms with such tech. The usual racy addenda, such as sports seats, red detailing and the signature aluminium gearknob, will mark out the Type R version. It is expected that the powertrain will be as evolutionary as the model’s exterior. A version of the current car’s widely praised ‘K20C1’ 2.0-litre directinjection turbo four-cylinder is tipped to power the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport rival, albeit with a number of upgrades to boost both performance and efficiency. Given today’s Civic Type R is already approaching the limits of what’s possible with a front-wheel-drive car, outright power output may not be substantially greater than the current 316bhp, but we could see improvements to the engine’s turbocharger response and torque delivery. Technical details of the Mk11 Civic’s chassis have yet to be revealed, but major changes to the layout or configuration are not expected. For the Type R, that should mean a return of the dual-axis strut front suspension, with an advanced limited-slip differential to help control the power coming through the front axle. At the rear, a multi-link set-up is likely to be retained, while adaptive damping will allow the hot Civic to offer greater differentiation between its comfort-oriented and racier drive modes. Given that the Type R is likely to stick fairly closely to its current brief, a substantial price rise isn’t expected, meaning the hot hatch should start from around £35,000.

  13. Queen Elizabeth II, who has been residing at her home in Windsor Castle since the pandemic, is planning to attend her 95th birthday parade in June, depending on coronavirus restrictions. According to royal aides, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would also be invited to Trooping the Colour parade, reported The Independent. If the military parade, scheduled for June 12, is held, it would mark the first public reunion for the royal family since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down from their royal roles. Prince Harry and Meghan’s last public appearance as members of the royal family was on March 9, 2020, at the Westminster Abbey Commonwealth Service. “The current plan is for the Queen’s birthday parade to go ahead in London as normal, with the acceptance that it may need to be adapted or scaled back depending on what guidelines are in force at the time. But the aspiration and the ultimate desire is to make it happen,” the royal aide was quoted as saying. However, no confirmation has been received from the Duke and Duchess yet on whether or not they would be attending the royal event in June.

  14. Michel Moulin, one of the possible successors to Noel Le Graet at the French FA, says he would insist on the striker being recalled A candidate for the presidency of the French Football Federation (FFF) says he would demand the recall of Karim Benzema to the national team, despite the Real Madrid striker facing trial over a blackmail case involving a former France team-mate. Michel Moulin is among the candidates running against incumbent Noel Le Graet, and he has promised that he would work to restore the outcast Benzema to the France team. The 33-year-old has not figured for Les Bleus since November 2015, when the last of his 81 caps was earned. Benzema is to face trial over his alleged involvement in the attempted blackmail of Mathieu Valbuena relating to a sex tape said to feature the Olympiakos star. The former Lyon forward is accused of trying to extort money from his fellow France international ahead of a friendly against Armenia five years ago. Benzema, who denies any wrongdoing, has been overlooked for international duty with France ever since the allegations were first made against him, during which time Les Bleus have become world champions after triumphing at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. However, Moulin has now said he would demand that manager Didier Deschamps restore Benzema to his squad. In an interview with Le Figaro, Moulin said: "On the management of Karim Benzema, who is a great striker, Didier Deschamps, he is an employee of the FFF. If above him, he is told to play Benzema, he must make him play." Benzema has spoken out on the blackmail case on a regular basis in recent years, with the Frenchman accusing Valbuena of dragging his name "through the mud". He told L’Equipe in May 2017: "He said he would not have lodged a complaint if he knew I was involved in the story. For more than a year and a half I'm his worst enemy, a bad guy, a thug, I have to be punished, dragged through the mud, my name and that of my family, in the dirt. "[Saying] I am his enemy, I wanted to take money from him, he really has to stop inventing, it makes me mad to keep on lying. He just had to tell the truth about what really happened, and he would not have had all of this." Benzema has remained a prolific source of goals for Real Madrid, with 261 strikes in 533 appearances. He ranked eighth in Goal 50 last November.
