  1. NASCAR revealed the Next Gen Cup car earlier this year and set the stage for the most revolutionary change to its top series in more than 70 years. From top to bottom, the seventh-generation Cup car redefines how manufacturers market, how teams operate, and how drivers drive. The Next Gen car will debut in an exhibition race on February 6, 2022, at the Los Angeles Coliseum before opening the season on February 20, at the Daytona 500. When NASCAR's seventh-generation Cup race car — a.k.a. the Next Gen — opens the 2022 season at the Daytona 500, it'll be the first one to have aluminum wheels, rack-and-pinion steering, and an independent rear suspension. And those are just a few of the many monumental changes made to the new machines that'll soon be racing in the sport's most prestigious series. "I don't think most fans can truly appreciate the scope and the level that we're contemplating with this car. It is unprecedented in the history of NASCAR," said Toyota Racing Development President David Wilson. "The magnitude of change is greater, cumulatively, than the sport has seen in the past 50 years." While the initial timeline was to launch the Next Gen car for the 2021 season, its testing and development were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, pushing its debut to 2022. But the genesis of this revolutionary redesign came at the beginning of 2019, when NASCAR officials first discussed an all-new platform intended to make the cars look more like the production versions they're based on as well as reduce operating costs to help draw in new teams and manufacturers to compete alongside the current trio of Chevy, Ford , and Toyota. 23xi's team president, Steve Lauletta, runs a recently formed team that's adding a second driver next season and said he's excited about what the Next Gen car means to the sport, particularly its cost-effective nature. "That's important for somebody in my position that's going around trying to find financial support to try and fund these teams," he said. Of course, Lauletta acknowledges the short-term investment that's required for teams to retool their facilities and get up to speed, but he said it's a great opportunity for them in the long term. The Next Gen car will also require teams to rethink how they operate. "It could put a lot more in the hands of the drivers and the strategy calls and all the things that happen on race day as opposed to engineering parts better than the other on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday," he said. With the Cup series about to undergo a fundamental shift, everyone in the sport must adapt to the new way of life. Adam Stevens, crew chief at Joe Gibbs Racing, said the major changes are going to dramatically affect how they prepare for the weekend, how they set the cars up, and how they optimize them. "The crew chiefs, the team guys, they've always been man and machine, and this is more transitioning away from the machine," he said. "So, it's not neglecting it, but it's a stark contrast to how we've raced, and prepared to race, and grew up racing our whole lives." Earlier this year, NASCAR pulled the covers off the Next Gen Cup car, and we learned how drastically different it is compared with its predecessors. Without getting into the weeds, the bodies are now symmetrical, with dimensions that are more like regular cars. The body is also now assembled with carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic panels that are more flexible, durable, and cheaper for teams to repair than the old sheetmetal. Fabricating a steel tube frame is no longer necessary as all cars now have a common center cage with bolt-on front and rear subframes that are easier and less expensive to replace after a crash. The suspension is overhauled, too, with the addition of four-way adjustable dampers and the switch from an archaic live rear axle to a sophisticated independent setup. 2. Former President Donald Trump has taken his involvement in 2022 Republican primaries to a new level as he works to permanently mold the GOP in his image. Beyond Trump's public efforts to oust Republican incumbents he considers disloyal, he has quietly tried to clear potential GOP threats to his endorsed candidates and encouraged others to run against his enemies. Earlier this month, the former President enlisted the help of North Carolina Rep. Madison Cawthorn to persuade former Rep. Mark Walker to end his campaign for Senate and instead run for the House, which could help Trump's preferred candidate in the GOP Senate primary, Rep Ted Budd, according to people familiar with the matter. Trump announces his endorsement of North Carolina Rep. Ted Budd, left, for the 2022 North Carolina U.S. Senate seat as he speaks at the North Carolina Republican Convention in Greenville, North Carolina in June 2021. Trump has also had conversations in recent weeks with MAGA-aligned Republicans who are considering challenging GOP governors with whom he has grown disillusioned. The former President urged former Georgia Sen. David Perdue to run against incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp, who resisted Trump's efforts to overturn his narrow 2020 loss in the state to then-candidate Joe Biden. And he has been receptive to the prospect of Alabama Senate GOP candidate Lynda Blanchard challenging Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey. The notoriously vengeful former President has told associates he blames Ivey for a decision by the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park Commission earlier this summer to prevent him from holding a July 3 rally aboard the retired World War II battleship. Ex-presidents usually leave the limelight after leaving office, refraining from inserting themselves in their party primaries. But a person close to Trump likened the former President to the mob patriarch Vito Corleone in the "The Godfather" movie for his efforts to retaliate against Republicans who criticized him for inciting the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol or for voting to pass Biden's $ 1.2 trillion infrastructure plan. Trump has been "pulling strings behind the scenes and guiding candidates in the right direction," this person said. Trump spokesman Taylor Budowich said the former President's endorsement "is unquestionably the most powerful force in American politics" and that Trump continues to receive endorsement requests from Republican candidates up and down the ballot. "When he endorses candidates, they win," Budowich told CNN in a statement, while declining to comment on Trump's conversations with individual or prospective candidates. US Senate seat in North Carolina Cawthorn, a 26-year-old congressman who has positioned himself as a Trump acolyte on Capitol Hill, endorsed Walker's Senate campaign in February, four months before Trump surprised attendees of North Carolina's GOP convention with an endorsement of Rep. Ted Budd. But at Trump's request, Cawthorn recently called Walker to urge him to run for the House rather than continuing to challenge Budd in the GOP Senate primary, according to people familiar with the matter. Recent polls have shown Walker trailing Budd and former Gov. Pat McCrory, another GOP Senate candidate, and Budd's supporters think that he could gain on McCrory if he doesn't have to split votes with Walker. 3. Australia indicated that it will deploy more than 100 police and defense forces personnel in the Solomon Islands, where riots continue for the third day this Friday. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said police and military will support "riot control" in the capital, Honaira, and offer "stability and security" to the Pacific island nation. The violence began on Wednesday when protesters stormed Parliament in an attempt to overthrow Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare. On Thursday, a crowd challenged the lockdown that had been imposed and set fire to government buildings, a police station and businesses. Morrison said he had received a request for help from Prime Minister Sogavare, under a security treaty the country signed with Australia in 2017. This bilateral security treaty enables Australian police, defense and associated civilian personnel to be rapidly deployed to the Solomon Islands in the event of an emergency. The Taiwan-China issue Most of the protesters are reportedly from the neighboring island of Malaita, which has long complained about the central government's negligence. A 36-hour curfew was imposed after the riots, however a crowd challenged it and on Thursday took to the streets of Honiara's Chinatown district. Malaita has strongly opposed Prime Minister Sogavare's 2019 decision to switch his government's alliances with Taiwan to get closer to China. This led to rioters targeting Chinese-owned companies in the unrest. Sogavare's decision to sever diplomatic ties with Taiwan in 2019 angered many, particularly Malaita's leaders. Local journalist Gina Kekea told Australian network ABC that the foreign policy shift to Beijing, carried out with little public consultation, was one of several issues that led to the protests. She indicated that there have also been complaints that foreign companies were not providing jobs to locals. "Chinese companies and [other] Asian companies ... seem to have most of the work, especially when it comes to extracting resources, something that people take into account," Kekea noted. The prime minister now held accountable what she said was foreign interference in the protests. But critics have blamed the unrest on what they say is a lack of government services and accountability, corruption and foreign workers taking local jobs. 11. A gray wolf whose “epic” travels captured headlines and imaginations this year was killed in California after he was struck by a vehicle this month, wildlife officials said Wednesday. The wolf, known as OR93, was found dead on Interstate 5 about 90 miles north of Los Angeles, near the town of Lebec, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife said in a statement. Foul play isn’t suspected, the department said. OR93 was born in northern Oregon in 2019. After he was outfitted with a radio collar a year later, he was captured traveling to California's Central Coast — the first wolf to be reported there in hundreds of years, said Amaroq Weiss, an advocate with the Center for Biological Diversity, a nonprofit organization. "I’m devastated to learn of the death of this remarkable wolf,” Weiss said in a statement. “His epic travels across California inspired the world. In this annual time of reflection, I thank him for the hope he gave us and for a brief glimpse into what it would be like for wolves to roam wild and free again." By April, OR93 had arrived in California's San Luis Obispo County, nearly 1,000 miles south of his birthplace. Then, his radio collar stopped working, prompting the San Francisco Chronicle to contemplate the whereabouts of this "young roaming gray wolf" who was "probably looking for love" and eluding wildlife officials while doing so. In his search for a mate, Weiss said, OR93 was captured on a trail camera even farther south, in Kern County, where his body would be found. In September, he was seen in northern Ventura County. The last time a wolf was documented that far south was in 1922, wildlife officials said, when one was seen in San Bernardino County. "I always knew the odds of his finding another wolf on the Central Coast were slim to none, but his relentless wanderings seeking a kindred spirit connected him to the hearts of so many," Weiss said. "He won’t be forgotten, and we’ll honor his memory by continuing to fight for the safety of wolves everywhere.” Gray wolves, which are native to California, were killed off a century ago. About 20 are now believed to live in two northern counties, Weiss said. Weiss pointed to OR93’s death as a reminder of the impact of development and sprawl on the habitats of native animals and called for the construction of effective wildlife crossings, including underpasses and overpasses. 12. When Porsche unveiled the original Cayenne way back in 2003, brand purists nearly rose up in revolt. How could the iconic German sports car maker build — gulp — an SUV? Well, nearly two decades and a smaller SUV (the compact Macan), a luxury sedan (the Panamera), and the electric Taycan later, most have come around to the idea, or at least reached an uncomfortable stop with it. The Cayenne's success (along with the Macan's) has helped fund Porsche's more beloved sports cars. Well, get ready to rip the band-aid off anew, because an even larger SUV is reportedly in the works. This revelation comes courtesy of Automotive News, which says the new flagship SUV will arrive in Porsche showrooms by the end of the decade. Details are fuzzy, but the new product will be larger than the midsize Cayenne. Porsche fans should probably reach for their pearls now — because this mystery SUV likely will offer a third-row seat. Porsche shared this news with its dealers recently. Apparently, the expectation is that the new SUV will arrive as a plug-in hybrid. Later, a fully electric variant could join the fold. For those curious what such a vehicle might look like, one dealer who saw a rendering of the future product shared with Automotive News that it appears to be a mashup of a sedan and a crossover, using the adjective "rakish." We'll wager a guess that the Porsche will be some sort of crossover coupe, with a fastback, low-slung body perched atop a higher-than-car ride height. Those still coping with the Cayenne, Macan, and basically every other not-911 Porsche builds these days probably can't be brought around to even make eye contact with this upcoming SUV. Everyone else, especially anyone who has enjoyed time behind the wheel of the über-athletic Cayenne, Macan, Panamera, and Taycan, will get it. The Cayenne and Macan, as AN reminds everyone, pay the bills in Stuttgart. An even larger, higher-profit-margin three-row model would give customers runway to upgrade as their families grow, offering them the utility they need for mall runs and everyday tasks wrapped in an appropriately sporty package. That's right — we highly doubt Porsche is prepping a swoopier-looking take on, say, a Honda Pilot or Nissan Pathfinder. This will probably splash onto the scene as the most athletic and satisfying to drive vehicle in its class by far, much like the Cayenne and Macan. So, next time you find yourself lusting after a new 911 GT3 or Cayman GT4 RS, you can thank give a little thanks to yet another allegedly blaspheming Porsche SUV. 13. Night jasmine, also known as parijat and harsingar, is a small ornamental tree that has fragrant white flowers with orange twigs. Its soothing and calming scent is loved and cherished by many. Famously known as Raat ki Rani, this tree blooms only at night and is known to shed all its flowers in the morning. It is also a sacred tree mentioned in Hindu mythology, Ayurvedic doctor Dr Dixa Bhavsar said. “Harsingar is a plant of varied health benefits. The antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties of the tree make it a blessing for human health and well being. The leaves are given for treating chronic fever, rheumatism, arthritis, joint pain, obstinate sciatica, ”she explained. Uses: For swelling and pain Boil leaves in water to make a decoction and drink. For arthritis Take leaves, bark, flower (about 5 gm) and make a decoction with 200 gm of water. The decoction is said to be formed when water reduces to ¼ of the initial quantity. For dry cough Grind leaves in mortar and pestle to extract the juice and take it with honey. For cold / cough / sinus Drink it as tea. Boil 2-3 leaves and 4-5 flowers in a glass of water, add 2-3 tulsi leaves in it and drink it as tea. For intestinal worms Grind leaves in mortar and pestle to extract 2 tbsp of juice and take it with mishri and water. For ringworm Apply the paste of leaves on the affected area. For fever Take 3 gm bark and 2 gm leaves with 2-3 leaves of tulsi and boil in water and drink 2 times a day. For anxiety Night jasmine oil is used in aromatherapy to relieve stress and anxiety. It increases serotonin levels in your brain and regulates mood thus making you feel happier. 14. Germany already knows what its new government will be like. The Social Democrat Olaf Scholz will lead the new German Executive, after reaching an agreement with two other parties after Angela Merkel decided not to opt for a new term after 16 years in power. Two months after the Social Democratic Party (SPD) prevailed in the Federal Elections, Scholz reached a final agreement with the Greens and the Liberals to form a new coalition government. The government agreement establishes the fight against climate change as the great priority of the new Executive. The pact must still be endorsed by the rank and file of the parties that sign it, but it is expected that the new government can be definitively formed in December, once the vote in Parliament scheduled for between 6 and 9 of that month is passed. It will be the end of the long era of Angela Merkel, who has dominated German and European politics in recent years. The future of Germany, the great power of the European Union, will mark the future of the continental bloc and it is likely that other states will follow in their footsteps in defense of the environment, if they finally do so. In the German press it has already been baptized as the "semaphore government", because of the colors of the parties that are going to form it (red for the Social Democrats, green for the green and yellow for the Liberal Democrats). The objectives of the new government Fight against climate change: the parties have agreed to abandon coal as an energy source by 2030, eight years earlier than planned. 2% of the German territory will be dedicated to the generation of wind and hydrogen-based energy. The goal is that by 2030 80% of electricity is obtained from renewable energy sources and 15 million electric cars circulate on German roads. The parties aim for Germany to achieve neutrality in its polluting emissions by 2045 and solar energy panels will be mandatory on the roofs of all newly constructed commercial buildings. There will also be solar panels in residential buildings. Germany will remain committed to the EU goal of abandoning internal combustion vehicles by 2035. A foreign policy with Europe as a priority: The new government is committed to "increasing European strategic sovereignty", which implies the search for greater independence in security, energy and other issues on the international agenda. Scholz told a press conference: "The sovereignty of Europe will be a cornerstone of our foreign policy." He also highlighted the friendship with France, his great ally in the EU. However, Berlin's relationship with the United States and other NATO members will remain central, according to the coalition's plans. Increase in the minimum wage and public housing: the minimum wage will increase to 12 euros (US $ 13.45) per hour and 400,000 new apartments will be built. 25% of them will be offered as social housing. Voting at 16: the voting age will be lowered from 18 to 16, with the intention of reforming the electoral law to end the problem that the number of parliamentarians does not stop increasing. The current Bundestag has 735 deputies. The change in the voting age in the elections to the European Parliament may be approved by a simple majority, which the signing parties are assured, but it will be more difficult in the case of the German federal elections, for which two thirds of the votes are required in the Bundestag. 15. Last August, Japan was in the middle of the fifth and largest wave of coronavirus since the pandemic began. It came to register more than 20,000 daily cases. That regrowth was largely driven by the delta variant that swept the entire world and which, due to its high transmissibility, ended up replacing other mutations of the pathogen. But that month was also a turning point for the Asian country. Since then, cases have plummeted at a dizzying rate and today, while several countries with a similar vaccination rate are fighting a new wave of infections, Japan breathes easy and this Tuesday, November 23, registered just over 100 new infections. And according to a group of scientists, an explanation that takes force in this puzzling drop in cases is that the delta variant could be, literally, "self-destructing." Multiple causes Several hypotheses may be behind this sudden drop in cases and incidence of the delta variant. More than 75% of residents have already been vaccinated in Japan and social distancing measures and the widespread use of masks are closely followed by the po[CENSORED]tion, national media report. But other countries meet similar conditions and register many more daily cases. In Spain, for one example, 80% of residents have already received a full vaccination and masks continue to be used in closed spaces. And this Tuesday, despite having a third of the po[CENSORED]tion of Japan, it registered almost 7,000 daily cases. It is this type of comparison that has led Japanese scientists, based on genetic observations, to handle the hypothesis of the "self-extinction" of the delta variant. "The delta variant in Japan was highly contagious and displaced other variants. But as the mutations accumulated, we believe that it became a defective virus unable to replicate," geneticist Ituro Inoue, from the National Institute of Genetics in Japan, told The newspaper The Japan Times. "Considering that the cases have not increased, we believe that at some point during these mutations the virus went directly towards its natural extinction," added Inoue. Inoue's theory sheds some light on the sudden disappearance of the delta variant in Japan that it surprises many. Especially considering that recently many western countries, with advanced vaccinations, have had to resume strict containment measures. LINK: https://www.bbc.com/mundo/noticias-59391190
