GOG was once at the forefront of making retro PC gaming legally available to the masses, but over the years the store has focused more and more on modern games and features to compete with the likes of Steam. Now, the folks running the store want to return it to its roots: a service focused on good old games. “Originally, GOG stood for Good Old Games,” the company says in a new blog post. “The idea for the company was born from the wish to play older games in a legal and easy-to-use way. As the classic games hold a special place in our heart, we’d like to devote more attention to highlighting them. It means that our goal is for GOG to become, once again, the best place for the classic PC games.” You can look to the recent release of The Wheel of Time for an idea of what this means in practical terms. The 1999 adaptation of Robert Jordan’s novel series got a gentle remaster courtesy of GOG and Nightdive Studios, updated to run at modern resolutions on modern computers. Getting licensholders to agree on a modern re-release of a forgotten game is no easy task (just think about No One Lives Forever), nor is getting those games running on modern machines. GOG’s not slowing down with that work. The company is continuing to work with developers behind emulators like DOSBox to get custom software running these games at their best, and partnering with the folks at the Video Game History Foundation to ensure that things like guides, manuals, and maps are preserved alongside the games. For now, GOG’s adding a curated list of “Good Old Games” representing 500 of the most essential classics PC gaming has to offer. https://www.pcgamesn.com/gog-retro-pc-gaming

After two years of the coronavirus pandemic, a recession and a rapid recovery, Americans are worried that the economy may swiftly decline once again. Some 81% of adults said they think the U.S. economy is likely to experience a recession in 2022, according to the CNBC + Acorns Invest in You survey, conducted by Momentive. The online survey of nearly 4,000 adults was conducted from March 23 to 24. Certain groups are anticipating a potential economic downturn more than others, the survey found. That includes Republicans, who are more likely to think there will be a recession than Democrats, as well as those who see themselves as financially worse off this year than they were last year. What a recession means The National Bureau of Economic Research, the arbiter of calling recessions, defines one as “significant decline in economic activity that is spread across the economy and lasts more than a few months.” The last recorded recession took place in 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic spurred mass shutdowns and layoffs across the U.S. Since, however, the U.S. economy has seen a stunning recovery. The labor market has added back millions of jobs and is nearing its pre-pandemic state. In addition, wages have gone up for many workers, including those in lower-paying jobs. More from Invest in You: Joint vs. separate accounts: What couples need to think about Want to find financial success? Here’s how to get started Before buying a house, here’s how to set yourself up for success Because of this, many economists aren’t too concerned that a recession is on the horizon. “If you look at the labor market data right now, you’d be hard pressed to find any indication of recession,” said Nick Bunker, economic research director for North America at the Indeed Hiring Lab. “Maybe a relative slowdown, but that’s from really hot to just hot.” Risks on the horizon Even though the labor recovery is still going strong, there are other forces impacting consumers. Inflation, for example, has hit many Americans hard and could hinder the economic recovery. In February, the consumer price index surged 7.9% on the year, the highest since January 1982. Prices have gone up in many categories such as housing, food and energy. “Inflation is the boogeyman when it comes to recoveries,” said Robert Frick, corporate economist at the Navy Federal Credit Union. That’s because if prices continue to climb — as they’re projected to — people may begin to pull back on spending, which could lead businesses to halt hiring. The Federal Reserve is also poised to continue to raise interest rates, which will slow down the economy to curb inflation. This is a blunt tool, however, according to Bunker. The central bank must be careful to cool the economy enough to bring prices back down without tipping the U.S. into another recession. There’s also geopolitical uncertainty around the war in Ukraine, which has contributed to rising fuel prices and will likely continue to pressure the global economy. In addition, the yield curve between the 2-year and 10-year U.S. Treasury bonds recently inverted for the first time since 2019, a signal that has preceded recessions in the past. Still, this isn’t a sure sign that a recession is on the horizon, said Frick. “Of all the things you have to worry about, I don’t think that the yield curve inverting is one of them,” he said. What to do now While it may be too early for Americans to prepare for a recession, they could take steps now to better their financial situation regardless. That includes boosting emergency and retirement savings, as well as trimming budgets to keep spending down amid inflation that’s likely to continue. “It pays to take a step back and look at the positives and weigh the negatives against historical evidence,” Frick said. “If you do that with the odds of recession, they’re still relatively low, but risks are high, and uncertainty is high.” https://www.cnbc.com/2022/04/05/most-americans-are-worried-about-a-recession-hitting-the-us-in-2022.html

Standing as tall as 2.5 m (8 ft) and weighing up to 360 kg (800 lbs.), the grizzly bear is a subspecies of brown bear that inhabits western Canada and the northwestern United States. Grizzly bears have a multitude of strengths. They are highly intelligent and have excellent memories. Detecting food from great distances away, grizzlies have an astute sense of smell, even better than that of a hound dog. They are good swimmers and fast runners, reaching speeds as high as 50 km/h (35 mph) over land. Young grizzlies also have the ability to climb trees to evade danger, but this skill fades as they become bigger. Grizzly bears are specially adapted to survive the changing seasons. During warmer months, they eat a massive amount of food so they can live off body fat during the winter, when food is scarce. They may intake 40 kg (90 lbs.) of food each day, gaining over 1 kg (2.2 lbs.) of body weight a day. As omnivores, grizzlies will eat anything nutritious they can find, gorging on nuts, fruit, leaves, roots, fungi, insects, and a variety of animals including salmon and other fish, rodents, sheep, and elk. Their diet varies depending on what foods are available for the season. In the fall, as temperatures cool and food becomes scarcer, grizzlies dig dens in the sides of hills. They have long rounded claws (the size of human fingers) and a large mass of muscles on their backs that help them dig. These characteristics, along with small rounded ears and white-tipped (or “grizzled”) fur, distinguish grizzly bears from black bears. In the winter, grizzly bears settle in to their dens and enter a deep sleep called torpor, which allows them to conserve energy. Their heart rate slows down from 40 beats per minute to 8, and they do not go to the bathroom at all during these months of slumber. This deep sleep is commonly referred to as hibernation, but bears are not true hibernators. True hibernators, like chipmunks, deer mice, groundhogs, snakes, and some bats, enter an even deeper sleep state, reducing their heart rates even more significantly and lowering their body temperatures to near freezing. Family Life Midwinter, pregnant grizzly bears wake up from their sleep to give birth, but return to their slumber afterwards. Grizzly bear cubs (usually born in pairs) arrive into the world blind, hairless, and toothless. They use what little strength they have to nestle into their mother and nurse. For a month, the cubs feed on their mother’s milk and gain strength. By the time spring comes, the cubs have opened their eyes and grown teeth and fur; the new family is ready to venture outside the den. The cubs stay under their mother’s care for 2-3 years. While mother grizzlies are fiercely protective of their cubs, nearly half the cubs do not survive past the first year, falling to disease, starvation, and predators like wolves, mountain lions, and adult male grizzlies. Conservation Status Brown bears are considered a species of least concern by the IUCN. However, the grizzly bear subspecies is listed as threatened by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Grizzly bears are threatened by habitat loss due to logging, development, and mining. Human interaction also poses a threat to grizzlies. When bears are drawn close to humans, attracted by livestock, garbage, and other food, they are often exterminated. Furthermore, in Canada, people hunt grizzlies for trophy (where it is legal to do so). In the U.S., sometimes grizzlies are shot by people mistaking them for black bears, which are not protected. What You Can Do to Help If you would like to help grizzlies, you can donate to organizations such as Defender of Wildlife and National Wildlife Federation, which help preserve grizzly habitat and work toward minimizing human-bear conflicts (with measures like bear-resistant dumpsters and electric fences). When living in or visiting grizzly bear habitat, do not feed the bears, and keep all garbage securely contained. https://animalfactguide.com/animal-facts/grizzly-bear/

Update April 6, 2022: Honda has announced that the Civic Type R prototype discussed below has set the lap record at the Suzuka Circuit for a front-wheel-drive car. The track hosts the Japanese Grand Prix, and the hot new Civic (still covered up with camouflage, unfortunately) lapped the 3.6-mile course in 2 minutes, 23.12 seconds, beating the previous record held by the 2021 Civic Type R Limited Edition. You can watch in-car video in the clip below; the original story from January continues after. The next-generation Honda Civic Type R is on the way. If you've kept up with the latest buzz, then you've seen the red, black. and white camouflaged prototypes several times now. The eagerly awaited hatchback will debut this year as a 2023 model and once again is offered with a manual transmission—an option fast disappearing from the Civic family here in America. But while we continue to wait for the hot hatch's official unveiling, Honda has released footage of the Type R-still under that red, white, and black wrap-zipping through the Suzuka Circuit in Japan. This is essentially video of the same car captured in still photography last month at the same track. When the 2023 Honda Civic Type R finally arrives, it should feature a more powerful 2.0 turbo-four, somewhere in the ballpark of 315 to 335 hp. In keeping with its track duties and sportier appearance, the front-drive hatchback will come fitted with red-painted Brembo brake calipers as the previous model. As for the inside, it appears that Honda is installing an updated version of the cloth bucket seats in the intense Flamin' Hot Cheetos color. The teaser video gives us a sense of the all-new Type R's feral capabilities. Listen to that turbocharged sound—okay, at least in this clip, it doesn't sound like much, but the drone-y engine at least seems quick. We can't wait to try out the grip provided by those sticky Michelin Pilot 4S tires or the pull of that turbo I-4 for ourselves, as we expect the less manic-looking hatchback to push performance limits even harder than the predecessor while upping its already surprising maturity even further. https://www.motortrend.com/news/2023-honda-civic-type-r-prototype-video-track/

Lahore, 1 April 2022: Yasir Shah-led Balochistan made history when they defeated defending champions Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by eight wickets at the Multan Cricket Stadium to clinch the Pakistan Cup – the final tournament of the 2021-22 domestic cricket season. This was Balochistan’s first title since the inception of the new domestic structure in 2019. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have already annexed the U13, U16, U19, National T20 Cup and Quaid-e-Azam Trophy titles and were looking to take the sixth title home, but was unable to do so courtesy brilliant bowling and captaincy from Yasir Shah and batting from young right-handed batter Abdul Wahid Bangalzai. Chasing 172 to win, Balochistan achieved the target in the 32nd over for the loss of two wickets. The 19-year old Bangalzai took the centre stage in the final with a brilliant unbeaten 80 off 77 balls, the right-hander hit nine fours and two sixes in his innings to ensure a commanding victory for his side. Bangalzai added 77 runs for the second wicket with Haseebullah (45 off 58, six fours) to provide his side a solid platform. Asad Shafiq who batted at number four, returned undefeated on 21 off 33 balls (one four) in a 70-run unbeaten third wicket stand with Bangalzai. Balochistan took away the glittering Pakistan Cup trophy besides the PKR5million winners’ prize. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bagged PKR2.5million. For his match winning performance, Yasir was named the player-of-the-match. Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were asked to bat first by Balochistan captain Yasir. Right-arm fast Khurram Shahzad sent back Ashfaq Ahmed in the first over for naught. Kamran Ghulam held the innings together as wickets fell at regular intervals at the other end. The right-hander scored 70 off 91 balls (seven fours, one six). Khyber Pakhtunkhwa folded for 171 runs in 46 overs as leg-spinner Yasir took four wickets for 33 in 10 overs. Khurram and Akif Javed took two wickets apiece. Menopause is a natural transition in a woman’s life as her menstrual cycles come to an end, and is linked to many uncomfortable symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings, sleep issues and more, nutritionist Lovneet Batra wrote on Instagram. While the experience is different for every woman, “making changes in your diet may help relieve menopause symptoms,” she added. Diet rich in protein Regularly eating protein can help prevent the loss of lean muscle mass that occurs with age. So, women going through menopause should eat more protein, about 1.2g/kg ideal body weight (60-75grams protein), and for each meal add up 20–25 grams of high-quality protein, she recommended. Foods rich in protein include meat, fish, eggs, legumes, nuts and dairy. Consume omega-3 fatty acids She said that according to research, omega-3s can decrease the frequency of hot flashes and the intensity of night sweats. Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids include fatty fish (mackerel, salmon and anchovies, and seeds like flax seeds, chia seeds, and sabja seeds. Eat diet rich in calcium, vitamin D, magnesium and vitamin K Hormonal changes during menopause can cause the bones to weaken, increasing the risk of osteoporosis. So, increase your consumption of dairy products (yoghurt, cheese, and milk), lentils, pseudocereals (amaranth), nuts and seeds. Add foods containing plant estrogens Phytoestrogens are naturally occurring plant compounds that can mimic the effects of estrogen in the body. Therefore, they may help balance hormones. Foods rich in phytoestrogens include soybeans and soy products, tofu, tempeh, flaxseeds, chickpeas, peanuts Include foods that are rich in fibre and antioxidants (whole grains, fruits and vegetables) to support your heart health, she said. https://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/health/nutritionist-diet-menopause-symptoms-7840028/

The killing of civilians in Bucha near the capital Kyiv has sparked widespread accusations of war crimes - with some voices arguing that Moscow has gone even further. "That is real genocide, what you have seen here," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said from Bucha. Poland's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki agrees the killings in Bucha and other towns near the capital "must be called acts of genocide and be dealt with as such". And UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said attacks on civilians in Bucha do not "look far short of genocide". But the US and the West's Nato military alliance have stopped short of using the word to describe what's happening in Ukraine. So is there a case for accusing Russian forces of committing what has been called the "crime of all crimes"? Has Russia committed genocide in Ukraine? There is no consensus on this. Eugene Finkel, an associate professor of international affairs at Johns Hopkins University, believes genocide is underway in Ukraine. He says there is evidence of killings, carried out in Bucha and other places, of people based on their Ukrainian identity. "It's not just killing people, it's targeting a national identity group," he says. However, it's the rhetoric coming from Moscow that tips over into genocidal intent, Mr Finkel says. He points to an article titled "What should Russia do with Ukraine?" published this week by Russia's state-owned media Ria news agency. The article argues that Ukraine "is impossible as a nation state" and even its name "apparently cannot be retained"; the Ukrainian nationalist elite "need to be liquidated, its re-education is impossible", argues the writer, Timofei Sergeytsev. He bases his theory on the baseless claim that Ukraine is a Nazi state, arguing that a significant section of the po[CENSORED]tion is guilty too because they are "passive Nazis", and therefore accomplices. After a Russian victory these people would require re-education lasting at least a generation and it would "inevitably mean de-Ukrainisation". "For me, the shift in tone in recent weeks in Russia, and especially among the elites, was the tipping point that we call the threshold of intent, not just to destroy the state... but to destroy an identity," says Prof Finkel. "The goal of the war is de-Ukrainisation... they are not focusing on the state, they're focusing on Ukrainians." Gregory Stanton, founding president and chair of Genocide Watch, says there is proof "that the Russian army is in fact intending to destroy, in part, the Ukrainian national group". "That's why they're targeting civilians. They're not just targeting combatants and military." He says President Putin's claims in the lead-up to the invasion, that the eight-year war in Ukraine's east looked like genocide, were what some scholars call "mirroring". "Often the perpetrator of genocide will accuse the other side - the targeted victims - of intending to commit genocide before, in fact, the perpetrator does so. That's what happened in this case." 'Evidence not strong enough yet' But other experts in the field of genocide say it's too early to define Russian atrocities in that category. According to Jonathan Leader Maynard, lecturer in international politics at King's College London, the evidence is still too unclear under the strict wording of the Genocide Convention. That doesn't necessarily mean genocide is not taking place - he says it's "very clear" that atrocities are happening - just that the bar has yet to be cleared. "It's possible that those atrocities could be genocidal or could escalate in future to genocide, but the evidence is not strong enough yet," he says. However, he points to the "deeply troubling" rhetoric of Russia's president denying Ukraine's historical existence as an independent nation. It illustrates a "genocidal way of thinking", he says, where Vladimir Putin believes Ukraine "isn't real, so they don't have the right to exist". The risk of genocide is increasing due to that kind of talk, he says, "but we cannot automatically assume that such rhetoric is going to lead to actions carried out on the ground". For Philippe Sands, there appears to be evidence of war crimes given the targeting of civilians and the siege of the port city of Mariupol appears to be a crime against humanity. However, Prof Sands who is director of the Centre for International Courts and Tribunals at University College London, says in order to prove genocide under international law, a prosecutor must establish an intent to destroy a group, in whole or in part. And international courts have set a very high threshold for proving that. Intent can be established by direct evidence where the perpetrators say they are killing people in order to destroy the group. But Prof Sands believes that is unlikely to exist in Ukraine's case. Intent can also be inferred from a pattern of behaviour, "but that's a tough call", he adds. Not enough is known yet of the intentions of those Russians alleged to have carried out atrocities. "Going into a village and executing a significant proportion of adult males from one national or religious group on an apparently systematic basis - if that is what happened in Bucha - could be an indicator of a genocidal intent," he says. "But at this stage we have insufficient evidence to know what precisely happened and why. I think it's right to be extremely alert to signs of genocidal intent, as the war moves to the east of Ukraine and becomes increasingly brutal." Alex Hinton, director of the Centre for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights at Rutgers University, says that war crimes and crimes against humanity certainly seem to be taking place in Ukraine through obliteration bombing and targeting of civilians. President Putin is displaying genocidal rhetoric, Mr Hinton says, but this will need to be clearly linked to atrocities on the ground to prove genocidal intent. "I wouldn't say this is genocide like [President] Zelensky has stated, but I'd say the warning signals are there. The risk threat is very high," he says. Whether or not Russia is committing genocide should not cloud what Alex Hinton sees as clear atrocities being committed by Russian forces in Ukraine. "We know atrocity crimes are taking place and that compels action. It shouldn't be a case where we think it has to be genocide to do more." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-61017352

Peloton continues to take steps beyond cardio exercise with Guide, a set-top camera ($295) that brings strength training to the lineup. It’s joined by a new all-inclusive $39 monthly subscription (with a $24 introductory offer) which adds movement-tracking strength and core-focused classes to the array of Yoga and bodyweight workouts that already exist in Peloton’s $12 per-month digital service. The Guide unit itself looks a lot like the Facebook Portal TV or your old Xbox Kinect. It’s got a versatile magnetic mount that can be placed on a flat surface, or folded out to latch around your TV’s bezel, which should make it easy enough to position where it can capture your workouts. It uses a wide-angle 12-megapixel camera, which is enough pixels to deliver a 4K video stream of yourself. It can be plugged into any HDMI port, and comes with Peloton’s recently launched heart rate monitor and a remote to navigate the menus and adjust your TV volume. Typically, your video feed will be on-screen alongside the Peloton trainer, so you can track and adjust your form as necessary. But you can minimize yourself so it’s easier to see the trainer’s movements, if you prefer. When you start a Movement Tracker-supported workout (they’re tagged with Peloton’s water drop icon to make them easier to find), you’ll see a wealth of information on what that particular workout will cover, both when it comes to muscles targeted and exercises involved. Peloton is trying to bridge a gap here between regular gym-goers and those of us that don’t know the difference between a hammer curl and a bicep curl. (To be honest, they’re only slightly different.) You can preview the exercises, including a quick video animation of the movement, and even see which muscle groups will be feeling the burn. I found a lot of it unnecessary, but it largely stayed out of the way – which was what I wanted. I know how to do a plank, thanks. We’ll be taking a deeper dive into the Guide soon, but let’s get into the crucial part of Peloton’s new addition, that tracking. With a single camera, and no LIDAR or Infrared it does a great job of framing you during your workout and tracking your movement across the space. The major selling point of the Guide is that it’s checking your form for you. Now, I might have been over-optimistic in hoping for tougher love from the Guide. I’ve done a few HIIT (high-intensity interval training) workout classes, both in-person and through pandemic-era Zoom calls, and I fondly remember the trainer telling me to raise my hips or retract my shoulder blades more when they would catch me slacking. The Guide only polices your movement in the broadest sense to make sure you’re following the instructor. It won’t tell you what you’re doing wrong – or how to fix it. However, compared to a group workout with a human coach, Peloton’s tracking system is always watching you, not the others in the class. When live classes arrive in the coming months, this might all work a little better – interactions with the coaches is what a lot of Peloton devotees swear by. Perhaps this could eventually offer the best of both, with human interactions and advice combined with the Guide’s more constant vigilance. As you follow the exercises, the Movement Tracker icon will fill up. Once I’d fulfilled the movement obligations, I’d hear a ‘ping’ as I transitioned to the next exercise. I ran through three different classes, and apparently my form was correct enough 19 out of 20 times. (It's not a perfect score because I wanted to take a few photos during a press-up set, okay?) That felt kinda good. I’ve never considered myself a gym person, but I’ve had various stints of exercise booms. Finally, I seemed very ahead of the crowd that Peloton seems to be pitching this device at. To be honest, I wanted heavier weights and harder workouts during my demo. The Peloton Guide is another device trying to introduce a connected camera into your home, which carries its own privacy concerns. You might be able to take some solace in the fact that Peloton says nothing gets uploaded because the processing is all done on-device. Plus there’s a cover you can slide over the camera lens, and mic mute switches on the back. But as Wired noted, there is a somewhat concerning section in the terms and conditions where Peloton says it may use your biometric data (including facial scans) in the future. This could be as innocuous as identifying separate users in the same household, or something else entirely. The company is considering adding the option to share your tracking data to speed up improvements and squish bugs, like those data-sharing requests you get with voice assistants. On that note, Peloton has added a basic voice assistant, in beta, to the Guide, ensuring you can pause, cancel or otherwise control your workout when the included remote isn’t nearby, or one of your kids is having a meltdown during your Core workout. It’s not the most attentive assistant, however, and I would have to bark my commands and increasingly unhinged volumes in order to get it to work. I appreciate the depth of data and customization Peloton has crammed into the Guide. During a workout, the backing track was a little too loud for me, and despite having only a passing knowledge of Peloton’s software, I was able to find an audio mix option, mid-workout, and increase the levels of the instructor’s voice. This attention to detail is rarely found in fitness videos and software. My time with the Guide was brief, but Peloton will need to ensure the Guide offers enough to warrant the initial outlay and even more expensive subscription. Can it convince existing Peloton subscribers to pay more? https://www.engadget.com/peloton-guide-camera-hands-on-153057753.html

Open-source systems are a type of software that can be freely modified and distributed. Open-source projects are at the heart of the infrastructure of our digital society, but they are susceptible to significant sustainability problems because many people use them but very few contribute to their development. Research by Javier Cánovas (a member of the UOC's Faculty of Computer Science, Multimedia and Telecommunications and researcher with the Systems, Software and Models Research Lab (SOM Research Lab) group at the IN3 Internet Interdisciplinary Institute), together with Jordi Cabot (ICREA research professor and group leader), has analyzed the profiles of the users involved in these projects. The results show that the presence of contributors who do not develop code is highly significant, and that there is also a certain degree of specialization among these people. According to the researchers, these data "demystify the idea that only developers drive open-source projects" and could be used to design new strategies to improve the sustainability of such initiatives. Completing the partial picture of open-source projects The structure of open-source projects fundamentally depends both on the community of contributors (who keep the projects alive) and on them collaborating in an active and enriching way. However, the vast majority of research on these communities focuses on studying the profiles of users who are responsible for programming and other technical tasks, such as reviewing or combining code. "This is only a partial picture of what an open-source project really consists of and how it moves forward, which is generally based on a community of users in charge of a wide variety of tasks (such as marketing, promotion and design), who also help draw up documentation or take part in discussions on the future evolution of the project," explained Javier Cánovas. To gain a deeper understanding of collaboration dynamics in open-source systems, the researchers analyzed the 100 most important npm projects (npm is the package manager for Node.js, one of the most po[CENSORED]r web application servers) found on GitHub, a leading social coding platform. "This study has allowed us to verify that non-code tasks (non-technical), such as reporting a problem, suggesting an improvement, taking part in a discussion or simply reacting to other people's comments (for example, with an emoji to communicate acceptance of a proposal), are a common feature in open-source systems. In fact, their presence is highly significant, demonstrating their involvement in the life of the project," pointed out Javier Cánovas. Division of project tasks The study also investigated whether project contributors usually have a single task or whether they perform several tasks and, therefore, the different roles overlap. The results show that there are users who only contribute to the project with non-technical activities, which would complement the work of the people focusing on programming and code development, who, in contrast, would have little involvement in other tasks. These data give new clues for designing onboarding and governance strategies that facilitate the evolution of these users and better collaboration between the various roles. "In most open-source projects, efforts to attract and bring in new contributors are clearly aimed at developers, but this means they miss the opportunity to attract other types of profiles that could be easier to bring in and could also help the progress and long-term sustainability of the project," the authors of the study noted. "In fact," they added, "projects interested in attracting more technical contributors should also make an additional effort to help some of the non-technical contributors to take part in the programming side, as this is not a natural evolution." Studying the evolution of the community over time This research is part of the SOM Research Lab's work focused on optimizing and promoting contributor collaboration in open-source systems, which has different ramifications. "The most significant aspect right now is considering the temporal dimension, i.e. how the state of a project and its community evolves over time," the researcher said. Other lines of work in this area include studying mechanisms for attracting new contributors to open-source projects, exploring new ways of visualizing the contributions of community members or proposing solutions for defining community governance rules (or models). The research was published in Empirical Software Engineering. https://techxplore.com/news/2022-01-software-open-source.html

A Rust rail network is coming, and the first iteration of it lands as part of the April update. This month’s update also introduces powerline ziplines to make it easier to get around the map, new achievements to earn, further improvements to lighting on monuments, and more. Rust’s monthly update arrives on April 7 at 11am PDT / 2pm EDT / 7pm BST. Further details will hit the official site at the same time, but for now, the devs have provided a press release with early info on the big features. The biggest is the new procedural rail network. As of this update, “Any map size 4250 or larger should have a single railway in the shape of a ring going around the entire island. This is just a tech test / proof of concept for now, so there’s no official gameplay element to it yet. Please report any weird looking areas you might encounter. In the near future, you can expect drivable above-ground trains.” You’ll also find new platforms and ziplines atop certain powerlines on procedurally generated maps. These will let you quickly travel along the powerline chain, or to connected monuments. The monument lighting update provides some extra visual love to the lighthouse, fishing villages, stables, excavator, and the arctic research base. The devs say the airfield is the real star, however. “Here we have added not only new lights and darkening volumes, but also tweaked some materials and added a lot of new prop dressing to bring it to the same level of quality as our newer monuments.” The devs are also continuing to test Steam Networking features, which should – eventually – offer improved performance, though they’re still disabled by default right now. “In the medium term,” the devs say, “we hope to switch all servers to Steam Networking by default.” https://www.pcgamesn.com/rust/rail-network

The Turkish romantic comedy “Ask Taktikleri”, by Emre Kabakusak (newcomer), released worldwide by the streaming platform Netflix on Friday (11/2/2022), with a duration of 1 hour and 38 minutes. The plot, which takes place in Istanbul, follows a beautiful stylist, the single Asli (played by Demet Özdemir ), who does not believe in love, and a handsome publicist, the womanizer Kerem (played by Sükrü Özyildiz), who also doesn't believe in love and makes a bet with her brother that will make a woman fall in love with him and then leave her, the stylist has a friend who was dumped by a “heartless” man and left her down, so Asli swears that he will avenge her by making any man fall madly in love with her and then abandon him, keeping the followers of her blog, “Táticas de Amor”, aware of the entire process of conquest until its outcome, however she does not even she imagined that, coincidentally, the target of her revenge was the same one used by her friend, the publicist who works at the same company that bought hers. The film is fun, superficial and predictable, with average performances by the protagonists, but with good chemistry between them, good art direction, good cinematography, beautiful costumes, beautiful Cappadocia scenery, good soundtrack, slow pace and a weak script, with good initial intentions, however, it gets lost soon after, which brings two beautiful and seductive people, the woman showing that female empowerment is crucial so that she does not fall into the traps of the “dons juans”, while the man shows his sexist speech, however it is impossible to manage feelings, let alone love. It's worth watching and having fun, despite the flaws and clichés. Check out the trailer:

Washington (CNN)A former officer of the Rocky Mount Police in Virginia who went inside the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, took the stand Wednesday to testify against his former sergeant, Thomas Robertson. Jacob Fracker told the jury how he, Robertson and Robertson's neighbor had traveled to Washington together and how he and Robertson had gone into the Capitol and taken a photo together. Fracker, who pleaded guilty in March to one count of conspiracy for his actions on January 6, agreed to testify against Robertson as part of a plea deal with the government. "I absolutely hate this," Fracker said at the beginning of his hours-long testimony, telling the jury later that he had nicknamed Robertson, who used to be a close friend, "Dad" and Robertson would call him "son." Robertson faces six charges for his actions around the Capitol attack, including obstructing an official proceeding, entering restricted grounds and impeding law enforcement. Fracker told the jury that he had driven with Robertson and his neighbor to DC at Robertson's behest and that Robertson had brought gas masks for each of them. Fracker said the three men had crossed barriers and had seen police try to stop rioters as they went from the Stop the Steal rally to the Capitol that day. Before making it to the building, Fracker and Robertson were separated as they climbed several flights of stairs outside, he testified. "I entered through a doorway, kind of looked around a bit," Fracker said. He said he "took a video in that main foyer area" before looking for Robertson. When inside, Fracker testified, he was "full of adrenaline" and thought "that if we could make a big enough fuss, the government would listen" and overturn the election results. After joining back up inside the Capitol, Fracker and Robertson took a photo together as "kind of a check-in photo for one of our buddies," Fracker said. The two of them joined a crowd, chanting and cheering in the Crypt of the Capitol, and started to leave when officers came and ordered them to exit, Fracker testified. According to Fracker, on the car ride back home to Rocky Mount, the pair discussed the topic of a next civil war. After being contacted by the FBI and told to turn themselves in, Fracker drove to Robertson's home and gave Robertson his phone. "I was terrified about the videos and pictures that were on it," Fracker testified. Robertson put the phones in an ammunition can, telling Fracker something like "problem solved," according to Fracker. He also testified that Robertson had paid him a lump sum of $30,000 but did not specify what the payment was for. Two DC police officers also testified Wednesday, telling the jury how they had been called in as backup for police protecting the Capitol and had had to make their way through the crowd of rioters, who attacked them with items like cement, rocks, chemical spray and sticks. One officer, Noah Duckett, testified that he and another officer had been hit by a man holding a stick, who the prosecution says was Robertson, as they tried to pass through. "We literally have no choice but to stick together," Duckett said of his unit of 25 to 30 police officers. "They have the numbers, they (had) the upper hand." The trial will continue Thursday, with more testimony from Fracker and DC police officers expected. https://edition.cnn.com/2022/04/06/politics/thomas-robertson-jacob-fracker-january-6-trial-virginia-police/index.html

Also known as the Indian rhinoceros, greater one-horned rhinos inhabit northern India and Nepal. Its single horn distinguishes it from its African counterparts, who all have two horns. Creating folds that look like armor, the skin of the greater one-horned rhinoceros is brownish-gray with raised wart-like bumps on the neck, shoulders, and legs. Grazing in flood plain areas, greater one-horned rhinos have prehensile lips that are specially adapted to grasp the grass they eat. They occasionally eat leaves, fruit, and crops as well. To combat the heat, the rhinos eat during the cooler parts of the day and immerse themselves in nearby rivers and mud holes during the hottest parts of the day. Although they weigh up to 2200 kg (4800 lb.), greater one-horned rhinoceroses are considered to be good swimmers. Sometimes, they eat the aquatic plants they encounter. Rhinoceroses have poor eye sight. However, they make up for it with their exceptional hearing and sense of smell. In fact, they use their enhanced sense of smell to seek out other rhinos during the mating season. At around 4-6 years old, female rhinos are ready to mate. The males are generally ready around age 9, but only the largest and most dominant male rhinos will mate. After a 15- to 16-month gestation period, the female rhino will give birth. She will give birth again in 1-3 years. Male rhinoceroses do not help in rearing the young. Generally solitary creatures, except for mothers and offspring who stay together, greater one-horned rhinos live in loosely-defined territories. These territories are marked with urine, feces, and glandular secretions. That said, the rhinos may meet up at watering holes without fighting. Conservation Status Greater one-horned rhinoceroses are currently listed as vulnerable on IUCN’s Red List with as few as 2700 left in the wild. India and Nepal have strengthened their opposition to poaching and have created protected parks and reserves which has helped bolster the po[CENSORED]tion. Traditionally, rhinoceroses have been killed for their horns because some Asian cultures believe the horns have medicinal value. But in fact, there is no evidence to suggest that rhino horns, which are largely made of keratin (like our hair and fingernails), have any medicinal value at all. What You Can Do to Help To help in the conservation of the greater one-horned rhinoceros, you can donate to the International Rhino Foundation. https://animalfactguide.com/animal-facts/indian-rhinoceros/

For those that embrace the art of car building, settling is never an option. The urge to take on a new project and improve in areas that might have been lacking on a previous creation, as well as applying new skills and techniques learned along the way is always a factor. Take Donnie Cristobal, owner of this 1999 Civic sedan, for example. The car he'd completed and enjoyed prior to this LX was almost perfect, but that "almost" just didn't cut it, so he set out to make things right. "Three years ago, I built a red '94 EG sedan and it was a success. However, I was eager and excited to build another car with a vision in mind: a clean white EK," Donnie states. Successful is an understatement as that bright red four-door consistently made the rounds on social media and garnered substantial recognition for his skills. Rather than opting for the more common hatchback or coupe, Donnie once again stuck with the sedan platform. Four-Door Folklore Always a Honda enthusiast, a CRX build that began right out of high school kicked off a long list of Honda and Acura builds over the years, but it's the sedan body style that managed to hold his attention the longest. He adds, "I've always been a four-door guy and I've gone through about five of them. Hondas have just always been in me, and I think as I get older, I'll always have one." After taking hold of this 1999 model, the very next day began a complete teardown as the car was stripped bare before sending it to E_N_M Paint Correction for a fresh coat of Honda's Taffeta White. During that downtime, Donnie took to the web to source the parts needed to construct exactly what he'd been mentally planning for months. "Putting the car together was the most exciting part of the build, as I saw my vision coming together. It was a lot of time and sweating in the garage, but all worth it." Simple & Timeless Compared to his red Civic, this build adopts a tamer approach from the outside. The clean white paint is contrasted by JDM thin moldings and a unique honeycomb pattern carbon fiber lip, with carbon MRacing diamond-shaped mirrors added to the mix. Civic Type R headlights and an upper grill replace the factory pieces and the deep side skirts and fender cut-outs found on the previous build weren't carried over this time, resulting in an exceptionally clean OEM-plus approach. On this day, 16x8.5 Volk CE28N wrapped in meaty 215/45 Falken Azenis RT660 were on board, but the sedan has also worn custom Work Meister CR01. Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings replace the aged factory rubber and Function & Form coilovers allowed Donnie to dial in his ideal ride height. Having rolled the fenders to allow for adequate clearance, the wheel and tire specs completely fill the fender arches without the need for excessive camber or the sound of constant rubbing; hopefully new builders will take note. Under the hood, Donnie's engine bay represents a direction that many seem to be striving for: well beyond stock without leaning too far toward a show car. Yes, there are smoothed over portions and plenty of unnecessary bits deleted, but it maintains complete functionality and is driven consistently, regularly making appearances at local events. The K24 swap uses a factory bottom end complete with a Type S oil pump swap, while the top end was treated to a 50-degree VTC and Supertech valvetrain. A large 4-inch titanium intake tapers into a 74-mm Skunk2 throttle body mounted to an Ultra Street intake manifold, with a 1320 header leading to GReddy's Supreme SP 3-inch exhaust system. It's a proven set up that provides a healthy 240 hp at the wheels and is entirely turn-key friendly. In order to maximize space, a Speedfactory tucked radiator sits in the pocket under the core support up front, and a Stash Auto brake line kit eliminates much of the firewall clutter. A Chasing Js titanium coil pack cover tops the candy red valvecover, and you can find G Development titanium hardware used generously throughout the entire bay. Driver Focused, Street Friendly All of the interior is intact and in excellent condition, though there are some aftermarket changes focused on the driver. An ICB Motorsport bucket seat is joined by a Spoon Sports steering wheel and Checkerd Sports extended hub, and the factory tachometer was replaced by an Omni Power version that includes a discreet shift light. Donnie moved the radio down, just in front of the Hybrid Racing shifter assembly, so that the upper portion of the dash could be fitted with wideband and oil pressure gauges. It's clean, simple, and functional, and has all the makings of a proper, performance-minded streetcar that can certainly take advantage of a weekend track day. "Now that the car is done (but it's never really done), I always see something different and want new parts." Typical of guys like Donnie who are constantly thinking about that next potential upgrade, making some sort of change to their build, or even moving on to a new challenge. For now, he seems content with the project but expect at least a few changes the next time you see it. 1999 Honda Civic LX Owner Donnie Cristobal Instagram K_Rarri Engine K24A2; Hasport engine mounts; RSX Type S oil pump conversion, 50-degree VTC; Supertech valvesprings, retainers; Skunk2 intake manifold, 74mm throttle body; Kuya Fabriction tapered titanium intake; 1320 megaphone header; GReddy Supreme SP 3-in. exhaust w/V-bands; AEM 340lph fuel pump; ID1000 injectors; Hybrid Racing fuel rail, pressure regulator. Well, that last ball was a bit of an anticlimax. Australia win by three wickets but it was actually a bit more comfortable than that. They were anchored by Aaron Finch with the rapid efforts of Travis Head, Josh Inglis and Marcus Stoinis ensuring the asking rate was never a problem. Pakistan paid for their middle order collapse which left them probably 20 short. The players go through the final handshakes of the tour. It's been played in fantastic spirit throughout. Aaron Finch is player of the match. "Thought the way our bowlers attacked that game were fantastic. Nathan Ellis had a tough start but showed real character. Everything we do is one eye to the World Cup. There's been a lot of great performances on this tour and the whole Australia summer. To see so many young cricketers come on is super exciting. Glad we don't have to bowl to Babar anymore for a while." And on that note I'll bring our coverage to a close at the end of this tour. There's been some very good cricket from both sides. Thanks for being with us over the last month and for all the comments and discussion. "I was nervous about meeting my baby. Throughout my pregnancy, I’d never felt a connection with her..." Serena Williams has written about her pregnancy, difficult childbirth, and motherhood experience in a new personal essay for Elle. Titled ‘How Serena Williams Saved Her Own Life‘, the tennis champ — who welcomed daughter Olympia with husband Alexis Ohanian in 2017 — wrote in the essay that when she found out she was pregnant two days before the 2017 Australian Open, her body “had already switched allegiances”. “Its purpose… was to grow and nurture this baby that had seemingly materialised, unplanned.” The 40-year-old, who continued to play for a while during her pregnancy, wrote that after welcoming her baby, the “stakes of the game have shifted” for her. “…winning is now a desire and no longer a need. I have a beautiful daughter at home; I still want the titles, the success, and the esteem, but it’s not my reason for waking up in the morning.” But, her pregnancy journey was not without its challenges. Williams’ first trimester brought her headaches, and “a weird metallic taste in [her] mouth”. “…but all in all, I had a wonderful pregnancy. I guess I’m one of those women who likes being pregnant; I enjoyed the positive attention.” The athlete was “obsessed with having the baby in September”. But the doctors “wanted to induce [her] in late August”. “I finally went in on August 31, and they inserted a little pill inside of me to get things going. Contractions started shortly after that, and it was great! I know that’s not what people are supposed to say, but I was enjoying it, the work of labor.” Interestingly, the 23-time grand slam champion “loved the cramps” and “loved feeling [her] body trying to push the baby out”. “I wasn’t on an epidural; to get through it, I was using my breath and all the techniques I’d learned from birth training.” But later, as her baby’s heart rate plummeted, the doctors decided to go for C-section. “She made it clear that there wasn’t time for an epidural or more pushing. I loved her confidence; had she given me the choice between more pushing or surgery, I would have been ruined. I’m not good at making decisions.” The tennis player continued in her essay that while she loved being pregnant, [she] didn’t have that amazing, ‘Oh my God, this is my baby‘ moment, ever”. “I was nervous about meeting my baby. Throughout my pregnancy, I’d never felt a connection with her… Yes, I was a lioness who would protect her baby at any cost, but I wasn’t gushing over her. I kept waiting to feel like I knew her during pregnancy, but the feeling never came.” “When I finally saw her—and I just knew it was going to be a girl, that was one thing I knew about her before we even had it confirmed—I loved her right away… I couldn’t stop staring at her, my Olympia.” Post delivery, the recovery process looked painful, for she faced many other health issues. “I began to cough. The nurses warned me that coughing might burst my stitches, but I couldn’t help it… I grabbed a towel, rolled it up, and put it over my incision. I was hacking so hard that my stitches burst. I went into my first surgery after the C-section to get restitched.” Unfortunately, this was the “first of many surgeries”. “I was coughing because I had an embolism, a clot in one of my arteries. The doctors would also discover a hematoma, a collection of blood outside the blood vessels, in my abdomen, then even more clots that had to be kept from travelling to my lungs,” she wrote. When she insisted on a CAT scan, the doctors found “a blood clot in my lungs, and they needed to insert a filter into my veins to break up the clot before it reached my heart”. In total, she had four surgeries while in the hospital. “My personal OBGYN was amazing. She never made me feel dismissed,” Williams wrote, adding: “In the US, Black women are nearly three times more likely to die during or after childbirth than their white counterparts. Many of these deaths are considered by experts to be preventable. Being heard and appropriately treated was the difference between life or death for me.” https://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/health/serena-williams-pregnancy-childbirth-surgery-delivery-motherhood-health-black-women-life-or-death-situation-elle-7856477/

Where are people fleeing inside Ukraine? Ukraine's deputy prime minister has warned people in large parts of the east of the country to evacuate while it's still possible. Iryna Vereshchuk said people in the Kharkiv, Donetsk and Luhansk regions should try to leave now, or risk their life. The UN's ten million figure is based on research carried out by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) between 9 and 16 March. Of the 2,000 internally displaced people it surveyed: nearly 30% had come from Kyiv, more than 36% had fled from the east of Ukraine and 20% had come from the north nearly 40% were now in the west of Ukraine, with less than 3% in Kyiv only 5% had left their homes in anticipation of the invasion, with the vast majority fleeing either at the start of the war or when it reached their area The IOM estimates that more than half of the people who are internally displaced are women, and many are deemed particularly vulnerable because they are pregnant, have a disability or are a victim of violence. What is being done for people fleeing inside Ukraine? The UN, which is working alongside other organisations to provide help to people in Ukraine, says it is offering humanitarian assistance "wherever necessary and possible". This includes: giving cash to people for basics like food and rent delivering supplies from west to east, including food and tarpaulins for homes damaged by shelling providing folding beds to people in bomb shelters setting up reception and transit points for internally-displaced people Eight buses escorted by the Red Cross have arrived in the town of Zaporizhzhia, carrying civilians who have fled Mariupol and nearby towns. About 12 million people are thought to be stranded or unable to leave areas affected by the fighting. Where are Ukraine's refugees going? Refugees are also crossing to neighbouring countries to the west, such as Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Moldova. The UN says that as of 5 April, more than 4.2 million people have left Ukraine: Poland has taken in 2,490,447 refugees Romania 654,825 Moldova 399,039 Hungary 398,932 Russia 350,632 Slovakia 302,417 Belarus 17,317 Some people have travelled from Moldova into Romania and so are included in both countries' totals. How are refugees leaving Ukraine? Trains heading towards Ukraine's border have been packed, and there have been long queues of traffic on roads leading out of the country. Refugees don't need all their official documents, but it is helpful if they can provide provide identification cards or passports, birth certificates of children travelling with them and and medical documentation. To get refugee status, they need to be Ukrainian citizens or people legally living in Ukraine, such as foreign students. There have been reports of people from African countries being prevented from leaving Ukraine. 'They said if you're black, you should walk' What help are countries offering refugees? In countries bordering Ukraine, refugees can stay in reception centres if they can't stay with friends or relatives. They are given food and medical care, and information about onward travel. The EU has granted Ukrainians who flee the war a blanket right to stay and work throughout its 27 member nations for up to three years. They will also receive social welfare and access to housing, medical treatment and schools. The government of Poland, which has received the highest number of refugees, has said it will need more money than the EU is currently offering in order to host the number of people arriving there. Moldova, which has by far the largest concentration of refugees per capita, has also appealed for international help in dealing with the numbers arriving. What is the UK doing to help Ukrainian refugees? The UK launched a family visa scheme for Ukrainians who have an immediate or extended family member in the UK. After the UK government was criticised for the speed and scale of its response, it also launched the Homes for Ukraine scheme. Under this scheme, people in the UK can nominate an individual or family to stay with them rent-free for at least six months. Refugees who come via the scheme will be able to live and work in the UK for up to three years, and access healthcare, welfare and schools. Applications are made online, and both hosts and refugees will be vetted. Hosts will receive £350 a month and there will be no cap on the numbers able to come to the UK. However, some families who have applied to be sponsors have complained that the system is too slow and complicated. As of 31 March, 29,200 visas had been issued through both schemes, out of 65,000 applications. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-60555472
