  1. If you’d prefer a more affordable console to the Xbox Series X — or one that’s more readily available than the PlayStation 5 and PS5 Digital Edition — you can once again buy Microsoft’s Xbox Series S at its lowest price to date. Regularly $299.99, Adorama is currently selling the entry-level Xbox for $249.99 when you use the promo code XBOXS2250 at checkout. While the Xbox Series S lacks a disc drive, it can play the same games as the Series X and is backward compatible with original Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One games. It also targets a 1440p resolution and up to 120fps in supported games (with 4K upscaling), though many games still run at 1080p right now. The console also only offers 512GB of internal storage. However, unlike the Series X, it’s compact enough that you can easily fit it at your desk, in an entertainment center, or just about anywhere. Plus, the next-gen console is less than half the price of the Series X, which currently retails for $499.99. It’s a great little Game Pass machine and the cheapest way to access next-gen gaming. https://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/shopping/the-xbox-series-s-is-on-sale-at-adorama-today-for-just-2424999/ar-AAVTruM?ocid=BingNewsSearch

  3. Ledger, a major supplier of hardware wallets designed for secure storage of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC), is launching a brand new wallet specializing in nonfungible tokens (NFTs). The new product, called Ledger Nano S Plus, is the next generation to the original Nano iteration released in 2016, and is designed with NFT collectors’ needs in mind, Ledger announced on Tuesday. The new Ledger Nano S Plus is the sixth hardware wallet produced by Ledger since the company introduced its first wallet HW1 back in 2015, the company’s chief experience officer Ian Rogers said. The product is also the first hardware wallet that Ledger has released since the debut of the Ledger Nano X in 2019. The Nano S Plus combined with the recent support of “clear signing” technology through Ledger Live aims to provide a safer user experience for Web3 customers. While the new Ledger wallet natively supports the secure management of NFT transactions, some previous iterations of Ledger wallets have also been supporting NFTs, Rogers noted: “Ledger Nano users have always been able to store NFTs on their devices through partners, on the Ledger Nano X, and now Ledger’s software application Ledger Live prioritizes NFT support where users can view their NFTs in Ledger Live and securely transact through clear signing.” Clear signing technology aims to provide all the details of a transaction, removing the risk of “blind signing,” or consenting to a potentially risky transaction, the executive explained. Ledger chief technology officer Charles Guillemet previously warned users about risks of blind signing of blockchain transactions in the aftermath of a major phishing attack targeting the world’s largest NFT marketplace OpenSea in February. The latest news comes shortly after Ledger initially released a limited edition of the Ledger Nano S Plus in early March, dropping 10,000 devices for pre-order at $79 each. Launched in 2014, Ledger is one of the world’s largest providers of hardware cryptocurrency wallets, which are physical devices designed to store a user’s private keys. The company has sold over 4.5 million wallets and launched six different wallets so far, including HW1, Unplugged, Blue, Nano S, Nano X, Nano S Plus. The company has stopped producing the first three iterations so far. https://www.today.ng/business/cryptocurrency/ledger-launches-nft-focused-hardware-wallet-nano-417178
  4. Conan O’Brien recently tweeted: “Well, I’ve officially lived a long life because people are excited Germany is rearming.” I had a similar feeling recently listening to the “FiveThirtyEight” politics podcast that discussed “wedge issues.” The conversation between the host, Galen Druke, and two prominent political scientists was illuminating, but the most remarkable thing was what they didn’t say. No one denounced wedge issues. Growing up politically in the 1980s and 1990s, I was always told that wedge issues were bad, because they were “divisive.” Lee Atwater, the bare-knuckled GOP operative, po[CENSORED]rized the term as part of Ronald Reagan’s 1984 campaign. He argued that Republicans should “drive a wedge” between the national Democratic Party, dominated by liberals, and “traditional Southern Democrats.” For decades, wedge issues were associated with race and other fraught cultural issues that typically divided Democrats, surely one reason why so many liberals hated them: They peeled off members of the FDR coalition. In fairness, the bad odor also stemmed from perceived demagoguery. The late Sen. Jesse Helms of North Carolina, for instance, was a demonic figure to many because he was very effective at tapping into the politics of white resentment to pull traditional Democrats rightward. But now it seems the odor has dissipated, at least among political scientists and operatives. Sure, there are still some ugly wedges, but wedge issues as a generic category or tool are now recognized for what they always were: normal politics. A general definition of a wedge issue is simply any position that divides an opposing party while largely uniting your own. Politicians often talk about “70-30 issues,” i.e., issues where there’s a clear majority. Logic alone dictates that if seven out of 10 Americans are on one side of an issue, it will divide one party, because neither party has close to 70 percent support. Education long served as something of a wedge for Democrats because most voters thought Democrats were better on it. But, as Glenn Youngkin’s successful race for Virginia governor last year showed, that’s no longer the case. The resentment over pandemic policies, combined with the fears of critical race theory, served to push many Democrats and Biden-voting independents to vote Republican. At least for now. As discussed on the “FiveThirtyEight” podcast, wedge issues have a tendency to swing back and forth across the political spectrum. Opposition to gay marriage was decisive for George W. Bush’s re-election in 2004, but it would be a loser for any Republican now. What’s interesting about today’s politics is how both parties have a hard time responding to wedge issues. Because they are dominated by their bases — and the base’s stranglehold on primaries — conceding that their political opponents have a point is cast as surrender to the enemy. Part of Bill Clinton’s brilliance as a politician was his ability to turn wedge issues to his advantage by migrating toward the 70 percent position whenever possible. Clinton recognized that welfare and affirmative action were very effective wedge issues to be used by Republicans. Rather than concede Republican framing of the issues, he co-opted them. He acknowledged, at least rhetorically, that there were problems with the status quo and proposed reforms that satisfied the moderates and independents. He endorsed welfare reforms that emphasized work and offered a “hand up, not a handout.” On affirmative action he proposed “a mend it, don’t end it” approach. His base hated it as much as the GOP base did, but neither had any place to go. To his credit, Joe Biden did something similar with “defund the police,” a radical idea po[CENSORED]r only with a tiny fringe of his party. In his State of the Union speech, he said the answer to our crime problems and our police problems is to fund training to address problems. But mostly, Biden has been incapable of building on that example, which helps to explain why his approval rating is far closer to 30 percent than 70 percent. The GOP, meanwhile, is struggling with a particularly peculiar wedge issue: Donald Trump. Trump divides the right while uniting the nonright, which is why Democrats are more eager to talk about him than Republicans are. Regardless, the great irony is that despite decades of talk about how wedge issues fuel polarization, they are, in fact, a key to curbing it because they illuminate areas where a majority of Americans can find common ground. And they remind parties that they shouldn’t take the voters who matter most — the persuadable ones — for granted. Jonah Goldberg is editor-in-chief of The Dispatch and the host of The Remnant podcast. His Twitter handle is @JonahDispatch. https://www.reviewjournal.com/opinion/jonah-goldberg-could-wedge-issues-be-the-cure-for-polarized-politics-2556982/
  5. The information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry on Tuesday ordered blocking of 22 YouTube-based news channels —18 of them from India — three Twitter accounts, one Facebook account and a news website for spreading disinformation related to the country’s national security and foreign relations. The blocked YouTube channels, the ministry said, were used to spread fake news and coordinated disinformation over social media on sensitive subjects from the perspective of national security, India's foreign relations and public order. “Many things shared on these digital platforms did not comply with the IT Rules. Taking this and the malicious content they were disseminating into consideration, we took the decision to block them with immediate effect. We want to assert that if we find any platform being misused for spreading misinformation, fear or anti-India content, we will take stringent action in future also,” I&B minister Anurag Thakur said. While the government has blocked 78 YouTube-based news channels since December last year, this is the first instance of the ministry initiating action against Indian YouTube-based news publishers since the notification of the IT Rules, 2021 in February. Apart from the 18 Indian YouTube channels, four Pakistan-based YouTube news channels have also been blocked. “The blocked Indian YouTube channels were using templates and logos of certain TV news channels, including images of their news anchors to mislead the viewers to believe that the news was authentic. False thumbnails were used; and title and thumbnail of the videos were frequently altered to increase the virality of content on social media. In certain cases, it was also observed that systematic anti-India fake news was originating from Pakistan,” the ministry statement said. https://www.msn.com/en-in/news/other/centre-blocks-22-youtube-news-channels-over-e2-80-98misinformation-e2-80-99/ar-AAVTLbM?ocid=BingNewsSearch

  7. Most children in disadvantaged households occupy themselves with electronic devices, largely due to both parents being busy with work or other things, a Chinese Christian Relief Association survey showed. About 60 percent of children in low-income households spend excessive time on online activity, which often results from feelings of helplessness and lack of success in life that children experience when they have nobody to spend time with, the association said yesterday. The association conducted the survey among the children of 2,422 families it provides social assistance to and released the results ahead of Children’s Day, which is today. The survey showed that 62 percent of respondents spend their free time watching TV, 59 percent play online games, and 47 percent watch videos online through social media. About 30 percent said they read books, and about 20 percent said they play with toys, it showed. “Online games are clearly having a noticeable effect on social and leadership skills, creativity and a feeling of success among the children of disadvantaged families,” the association said. Association social welfare director Liang Chia-hung (梁佳宏) said there was a growing trend of children becoming addicted to online activities due to a lack of proper guidance when they experience setbacks or other negative experiences early in life. Citing an example, Liang said that the daughter of one family the association helps said she kept herself locked in her room to avoid witnessing domestic violence committed by her father. Liang quoted the second-grader as saying that she used her mother’s old cellphone to entertain herself until the early morning hours, which affected her studies due to lack of sleep. The girl began opening up to others after she experienced kindness from classmates in a tutoring class, Liang said, adding that the girl’s grades improved after the cellphone was taken away. While there are some benefits to online activities, it is best to restrict children’s Internet use, he said. “If you find yourself unable to communicate with your child, try to understand their online activity,” he said. https://www.taipeitimes.com/News/taiwan/archives/2022/04/04/2003775988
  8. Big tech shows no desire to stop trying to make the metaverse happen, whether we want it or not. Whichever particular version will win out remains to be seen, and when (the arrival of virtual and augmented reality for the masses been about five years away for about three decades now, after all). But whenever and however it arrives, it's hard to see how the metaverse will overcome the privacy and security problems that we've been trying to deal with in our existing technology for far too long. Chances are it's going to make them all a lot worse. Never forget that a significant part – probably even the majority – of the modern web is underpinned by surveillance capitalism. That is, being able to observe and analyse us, gather information on who we are and what we like, is fundamental to the business model of nearly all of the big tech companies. Anothe problem that isn't going away: tech companies continue to rush buggy software code out of the door which developers haven't had time to secure properly because being first to market matters much more than protecting the data and privacy of their customers. And as a result, privacy leaks are so common that most consumers are so jaded they simply shrug their shoulders and keep doing business with whichever company was breached this time around. Meanwhile, scammers continue to up their game. Whether they are dealing with phishing or ransomware or data theft, most police won't understand the crime and even if they do the crooks will either disappear into another jurisdiction or even turn out to be working for a government; hard to chase either way. The metaverse risks compounding all of these problems. If you thought big tech knew a lot about you simply based on the websites you visit or the links you click on, image how much they will know about you once they are able to record literally every single thing you look at, and for how long. And if big tech knowing about it is bad enough, it will be worse when that data inevitably leaks. If you though phishing scams were bad now, thanks to carefully scripted emails or even deep fake audio or video, get ready for your CEO to appear in a virtual work and ask you to transfer millions to a random bank account. Or as Charlie Bell, Microsoft's executive vice president of security, compliance, identity, and management pointed out in a recent blog: "The problems of yesterday's and today's Internet — impersonation, attempts to steal credentials, social engineering, nation state espionage, inevitable vulnerabilities — will be with us in the metaverse." This is just the start. There are plenty of other risks that come with creating physical representations of ourselves in a virtual world. Thinking optimistically, perhaps the leap to the metaverse will make all these problems so obvious and so pressing that big tech - and broader society - will have no option other than to go back and fix the privacy and security problems that have been dragging on for too long. That's unlikely, and perhaps even implausible. So perhaps it's about time we started demanding better from tech companies before they impose a future on us that fixes none of the problems we are already struggling with - and simply adds more. https://www.zdnet.com/article/the-metaverse-is-coming-but-so-are-all-these-security-problems/
  9. Village Ace Hardware has been acquired by Mountain Hardware and Sports, meaning residents of the small town are about to see a big increase to their shopping options. “We truly believe this acquisition for Mountain Hardware & Sports will be a great opportunity for the Incline Village store to offer a broader product selection and services to the Incline Village community and beyond,” said Vice President of Purchasing and Marketing for MHS Heather Svahn. “As we are better able to supply our resources to the staff at this location, they will be able to provide more items for your homes, workplaces and and for your mountain activities.” The original Village Ace Hardware store opened in 1974 by the Falke family and has been a steady supplier of goods to the Incline Village community. With the new partnership, additional items will be introduced to the community, including a more expansive outdoor collection, footwear, and outdoor apparel. All employees will officially be staff members of MHS starting on April 1, 2022, when the transaction becomes official. The store will eventually take over the Pet Station location as well, which is adjacent to the Village Ace store. “This transition will start as Pet Station moves to their new location,” said Svahn. “We hope to have a temporary shopping solution in the early part of summer where we can show more categories within the expanded space.” MHS was founded three years after Village Ace in 1977 to serve mountain towns. Beginning in 2001, the founders began to transition to ownership by employees, and by 2013, the business was completely owned by employees. Today, the team prides themselves on outstanding customer service and providing great choices to fit the mountain lifestyle. New operations need to be established as the teams come together, including merging the stores data, finding ways to present new merchandise to customers in limited space, and utilizing time to transform the Pet Station store as quickly as possible. “The process of remodeling the space to incorporate the Pet Station floor space will take some time,” said Svahn. “We hope to use our time wisely in 2022 to grow and expand, and our customers at the lake will see these changes and additions throughout the year. Toward the end of 2022 and into 2023, Mountain Hardware and Sports Incline Village will take shape, continuing to proudly serve the Incline Village and surrounding communities.” https://www.tahoedailytribune.com/news/village-hardware-mountain-hardware-sports-join-forces/
  10. The war that Russia has unleashed on our land is a great crime. A crime against humanity, a crime against freedom, a crime against all living things. UAnimals, together with like-minded people, is fighting the consequences of the invaders’ atrocities and continues to save the lives of animals. Let’s begin the report on status with the main news of the day. Volunteers finally managed to get to the shelter in Borodyanka! From the very beginning of war, the animals were abandoned, without food or water. Due to the occupation, it was extremely difficult to get there and UAnimals set a reward of 50,000 hryvnias for those who can get to the animals. This day has come! Immediately after the authorities announced the liberation of the region from the occupiers, Kyiv volunteers were able to reach Borodyanka. Unfortunately, most of the animals died, and of the 485 residents of the shelter, only 150 survived. The animals are exhausted and in serious condition. 27 of them were taken to the clinic by volunteers today, the rest of the animals are also cared for by activists and veterinarians. UAnimals transferred the promised money to help rescued animals. We are grateful to all the volunteers involved in this rescue operation. Also today, the UAnimals team together with partners continued the evacuation of the Yasnogorodka farm. At the moment, in addition to ostriches, all the animals that found refuge in the “Wildlife Shelter” have been taken out. Today, our team sent a new consignment of 5.4 tons of food from its warehouse in Lviv to Zaporizhia and a consignment of 5.5 tons from Lviv to Kyiv. We also sent humanitarian aid to the liberated territories of Kyiv region. Humanitarian aid was once again distributed in Kyiv, this time to Obolon. 70 bags of dog food were distributed. We are not only helping pets, so today we provided financial assistance to the Bolivar Stables and transferred funds to the Grand Cyprus, which rescues horses during war. The Save Fox shelter in Dnipro also received financial assistance from UAnimals to help wild animals. During this day, we provided assistance to 22 shelters and organizations in the amount of UAH 216,000. Protecting the weak is up to the strong. Everyone who joins the salvation of our country is a human with a capital letter. We are proud of each and every one of you and believe that victory is just around the corner. https://uacrisis.org/en/rescue-of-animals-from-borodyanka-shelter-and-yasnogorodka-farm
  11. BMW has halted production at two German factories. Mercedes is slowing work at its assembly plants. Volkswagen, warning of production stoppages, is looking for alternative sources for parts. For more than a year, the global auto industry has struggled with a disastrous shortage of computer chips and other vital parts that has shrunk production, slowed deliveries and sent prices for new and used cars soaring beyond reach for millions of consumers. Russia’s war against Ukraine — has thrown up yet another obstacle. Critically important electrical wiring, made in Ukraine, is suddenly out of reach. With buyer demand high, materials scarce and the war causing new disruptions, vehicle prices are expected to head even higher well into next year. The war’s damage to the auto industry has emerged first in Europe. But U.S. production will likely suffer eventually, too, if Russian exports of metals — from palladium for catalytic converters to nickel for electric vehicle batteries — are cut off. “You only need to miss one part not to be able to make a car,” said Mark Wakefield, co-leader of consulting firm Alix Partners’ global automotive unit. “Any bump in the road becomes either a disruption of production or a vastly unplanned-for cost increase.” Supply problems have bedeviled automakers since the pandemic erupted two years ago, at times shuttering factories and causing vehicle shortages. The robust recovery that followed the recession caused demand for autos to vastly outstrip supply — a mismatch that sent prices for new and used vehicles skyrocketing well beyond overall high inflation. In the United States, the average price of a new vehicle is up 13% in the past year, to $45,596, according to Edmunds.com. Average used prices have surged far more: They’re up 29% to $29,646 as of February. Before the war, S&P Global Mobility had predicted that global automakers would build 84 million vehicles this year and 91 million next year. (By comparison, they built 94 million in 2018.) Now it’s forecasting fewer than 82 million in 2022 and 88 million next year. Mark Fulthorpe, an executive director for S&P, is among analysts who think the availability of new vehicles in North America and Europe will remain severely tight — and prices high — well into 2023. Compounding the problem, buyers who are priced out of the new-vehicle market will intensify demand for used autos and keep those prices elevated, too — prohibitively so for many households. Eventually, high inflation across the economy — for food, gasoline, rent and other necessities — will likely leave a vast number of ordinary buyers unable to afford a new or used vehicle. Demand would then wane. And so, eventually, would prices. “Until inflationary pressures start to really erode consumer and business capabilities,” Fulthorpe said, “it’s probably going to mean that those who have the inclination to buy a new vehicle, they’ll be prepared to pay top dollar.” One factor behind the dimming outlook for production is the shuttering of auto plants in Russia. Last week, French automaker Renault, one of the last automakers that have continued to build in Russia, said it would suspend production in Moscow. The transformation of Ukraine into an embattled war zone has hurt, too. Wells Fargo estimates that 10% to 15% of crucial wiring harnesses that supply vehicle production in the vast European Union were made in Ukraine. In the past decade, automakers and parts companies invested in Ukrainian factories to limit costs and gain proximity to European plants. The wiring shortage has slowed factories in Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic and elsewhere, leading S&P to slash its forecast for worldwide auto production by 2.6 million vehicles for both this year and next. The shortages could reduce exports of German vehicles to the United States and elsewhere. Wiring harnesses are bundles of wires and connectors that are unique to each model; they can't be easily re-sourced to another parts maker. Despite the war, harness makers like Aptiv and Leoni have managed to reopen factories sporadically in Western Ukraine. Still Joseph Massaro, Aptiv’s chief financial officer, acknowledged that Ukraine “is not open for any type of normal commercial activity.” Aptiv, based in Dublin, is trying to shift production to Poland, Romania, Serbia and possibly Morocco. But the process will take up to six weeks, leaving some automakers short of parts during that time. “Long term,” Massaro told analysts, “we’ll have to assess if and when it makes sense to go back to Ukraine.” BMW is trying to coordinate with its Ukrainian suppliers and is casting a wider net for parts. So are Mercedes and Volkswagen. Yet finding alternative supplies may be next to impossible. Most parts plants are operating close to capacity, so new work space would have to be built. Companies would need months to hire more people and add work shifts. "The training process to bring up to speed a new workforce — it’s not an overnight thing,” Fulthorpe said. Fulthorpe said he foresees a further tightening supply of materials from both Ukraine and Russia. Ukraine is the world’s largest exporter of neon, a gas used in lasers that etch circuits onto computer chips. Most chip makers have a six-month supply; late in the year, they could run short. That would worsen the chip shortage, which before the war had been delaying production even more than automakers expected. Likewise, Russia is a key supplier of such raw materials as platinum and palladium, used in pollution-reducing catalytic converters. Russia also produces 10% of the world’s nickel, an essential ingredient in EV batteries. Mineral supplies from Russia haven’t been shut off yet. Recycling might help ease the shortage. Other countries may increase production. And some manufacturers have stockpiled the metals. But Russia also is a big aluminum producer, and a source of pig iron, used to make steel. Nearly 70% of U.S. pig iron imports come from Russia and Ukraine, Alix Partners says, so steelmakers will need to switch to production from Brazil or use alternative materials. In the meantime, steel prices have rocketed up from $900 a ton a few weeks ago to $1,500 now. So far, negotiations toward a cease-fire in Ukraine have gone nowhere, and the fighting has raged on. A new virus surge in China could cut into parts supplies, too. Industry analysts say they have no clear idea when parts, raw materials and auto production will flow normally. Even if a deal is negotiated to suspend fighting, sanctions against Russian exports would remain intact until after a final agreement had been reached. Even then, supplies wouldn’t start flowing normally. Fulthorpe said there would be “further hangovers because of disruption that will take place in the widespread supply chains.” Wakefield noted, too, that because of intense pent-up demand for vehicles across the world, even if automakers restore full production, the process of building enough vehicles will be a protracted one. When might the world produce an ample enough supply of cars and trucks to meet demand and keep prices down? Wakefield doesn’t profess to know. “We’re in a raising-price environment, a (production)-constrained environment,” he said. “That’s a weird thing for the auto industry.” https://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory/russia-war-escalate-auto-prices-shortages-83845329
  12. Newport News is asking city residents of all ages to complete a survey that will inform the city’s next steps to prevent gun violence. The city partnered with the Center for Crime, Equity, and Justice Research and Policy at Christopher Newport University to create the survey, which is being paid for with a $25,000 state grant. The purpose of the grant is to help communities develop gun violence intervention and prevention programs. “One life lost to gun violence is one too many,” Newport News Mayor McKinley L. Price said in a news release. “This effort will be a tremendous benefit to city leadership, as we propose public policy and implement strategies that address gun violence and save lives.” The survey, which takes an estimated 15-20 minutes to complete, asks residents questions about their experiences with crime, thoughts on safety in the city and the everyday concerns and challenges they face. The city will use the results of the survey to craft a strategy for addressing gun violence. Part of the plan includes offering grants for qualified community-based organizations that are already doing the work to reduce gun violence. The grant application is expected to open in June. The city has $125,000 from a state grant to give to qualified organizations with strategies to reduce gun violence. The city manager and council have indicated they may be willing to match or exceed the funds using city dollars. Newport News has done similar surveys in the past, but most of the data is now more than six years old, according to City Manager Cindy Rohlf. City leaders believe that some of the information has changed. https://news.yahoo.com/newport-news-asks-residents-help-200600328.html

  15. What sparked my thoughts about this was the fact that my juicer stopped working, and I asked the husband to get me a new one while he was out shopping, which in itself was a rarity. ‘Get a decent one’ I said, and I suggested a particular brand that I knew had a good reputation. He finally reappeared with an all-singing, all-dancing device that does everything but make juice. It will slice, grind, shred, grate, cut veggies into twirls, make nectar – but doesn’t make juice. To be fair, it doesn’t say it makes juice, so it is no fault of the device. I thought I would take a look at some other strange gadgets around. One I discovered was an Led colour-change showerhead, where the water pressure changes the colour of the showerhead (and the colour of the water too, by the look of the sales picture). I can't think why anyone would want this, unless to encourage the kids to shower. How about goggles to wear while cutting onions! Nobody likes sobbing while chopping onions after all. But wouldn’t swimming goggles do the trick? Electric salad spinner (€89!) – Automatically spins every drop of water out of your salad leaves, a great idea, but I have visions of taking the lid off too soon and papering the walls with bits of (hopefully dry) Romaine or Iceberg. A set of 45 kitchen utensils – knives not included - just spatulas, spoons, and various other stirring and poking tools. Surely even Chef Ramsey doesn’t have that many. Electric Fully Automatic Black Garlic Fermenter – (€179) – Is black garlic an actual thing I wondered? (Apparently it is, I looked it up. It has high antioxidant levels, and can help to regulate blood sugar levels which can help prevent serious health issues, such as diabetes symptoms, kidney dysfunction, etc.) There are even recipes for it. Smart hairbrush – A beauty product company has launched a ‘smart’ internet-connected hairbrush that analyses users’ hair type and recommends products accordingly. Sensors on the hairbrush count strokes, determine whether the hair is dry or wet and analyzes the force used when brushing. It even includes a microphone that listens to the sound of hair brushing, to provide insights into manageability, frizziness, dryness, split ends and breakage. Well, I must get one of these. USB mouse with a built-in scale and a digital readout. Umm…why? Stainless steel oyster shucker set (€85 no less). Just the thing for speeding up that romantic dining experience. Now for one I really liked. An automatic waste bin, with automatic seal and bin bag change. With a 3 second push button on the front of the bin, this intelligent waste bin automatically seals the bin liner in the bin using thermoplastic sealing technology. In addition, the bin liner is replaced with a new one! How cool is that? It has sensors so it can detect whether the bag is full. It even has non-contact opening - simply hold your hand over the sensor - it detects movement and the lid opens automatically, meaning that the bin can be opened without any contact whatsoever. No more foot pedals or sticky fingers on the lid. With the smart waste bin, changing bin bags is a thing of the past. But sadly it doesn’t take the full bags to the roadside too – if someone can crack that one, I will be first in the queue! https://www.theportugalnews.com/news/2022-04-02/weird-and-wonderful-gadgets-for-the-home/66160
