You Can Prevent Heart Disease and Stroke Know your risk. If you’re between 40 and 75 years old and have never had a heart attack or stroke, use our Check. Change. Control. CalculatorTM to estimate your risk of having a cardiovascular event in the next 10 years. Certain factors can increase your risk, such as smoking, kidney disease or a family history of early heart disease. Knowing your risk factors can help you and your health care team decide on the best treatment plan for you. Many risk factors can be improved with lifestyle changes. Eat a healthy diet. Center your eating plan around vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, plant-based proteins, lean animal proteins and fish. Make smart choices like limiting refined carbohydrates, processed meats and sweetened drinks. Use the nutrition facts label on packaged foods to cut back on sodium, added sugars and saturated fats, and avoid trans fat. Be physically active. Move more – it’s one of the best ways to stay healthy, prevent disease and age well. Adults should get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity each week. If you’re already active, you can increase your intensity for even more benefits. If you’re not active now, get started by simply sitting less and moving more. Watch your weight. Stay at a healthy weight for you. Lose weight if you’re overweight or obese. Start by eating fewer calories and moving more. You can check your body mass index (BMI). If you need help, talk to your health care team about a weight loss plan. Live tobacco-free. If you don’t smoke, vape or use tobacco products, don’t ever start. There’s no such thing as a safe tobacco product. If quitting smoking or tobacco is a challenge for you, ask your team for help to kick the habit using proven methods. Don’t just swap one tobacco source for another. And try to avoid secondhand smoke, too! Manage conditions. If you have high blood pressure (hypertension), high cholesterol, high blood sugar, diabetes or other conditions that put you at greater risk, it’s very important to work with your health care team and make lifestyle changes. Many conditions can be prevented or managed by eating better, getting active, losing weight and quitting tobacco. Take your medicine. If you have a health condition, your doctor may prescribe statins or other medications to help control cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure. Take all medications as directed. But don’t take aspirin as a preventive measure unless your doctor tells you to. If you’ve never had a heart attack or stroke, a daily aspirin may not help you at all and could cause problems including risk of bleeding. If you’ve had a heart attack or stroke, your doctor may want you to take a low dose of aspirin to reduce your risk of having another. Be a team player. Your health care team can help you reduce your risk of heart disease or stroke to live a longer, healthier life. Work together on your prevention plan. Ask questions, and be open about any challenges you may face in trying to make healthy changes. Stress, sleep, mental health, family situations, tobacco use, food access, social support and other issues all can affect your health and well-being.

How China gradually took over construction of Nepal's international airports Construction companies under Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have often forced incumbent governments to abandon ongoing projects with anyone other than China in the region. The expansion of Nepal's largest international airport has been enveloped in controversies over alleged corruption, loan extensions, fund stoppage and changing construction companies. The modus operandi seems akin to what happened during Maldives' airport expansion when China jumped into the fray. The past decade has seen growing and aggressive infrastructure building in India's neighbourhood by Chinese state-owned companies. Construction companies under Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have often forced incumbent governments to abandon ongoing projects with anyone other than China. Companies abandoning projects are generally given out-of-court settlements - compensations big enough to stop work and leave. CCP-owned companies then take over the projects and gain political influence in these countries. India Today OSINT team investigates two such projects in Nepal through satellite images over the past decade and as latest as of 01 Nov 2020. Kathmandu airport expansion Nepal's first airport, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, had planned expansion to accommodate traffic of 10 million passengers annually by 2035. The expansion project was awarded to Spanish company 'SANJOSE Constructora' whose pace of work Nepal thought was slow and supposedly not satisfied with. The contract was terminated in 2016 for which the Spanish firm has sought $3 bn compensation. Later in 2017, the same contract was given to Chinese state-owned Shanxi Construction Engineering Group which started expansion work. The CCP owned company withdrew quoting high cement prices and Nepali company Kalika Tundi Joint Venture took over the project. There are strong rumours that these are front companies of CCP brought in due to Indian influence and pressure. The satellite images of the last four years indicate that after the CCP owned Shanxi Group undertook the project work has seen steady progress. The runway has now been extended by 300m on the Southern end and provides for safety during takeoffs. The apron has been expanded by 150m X 120m for accommodating two wide-bodied and three narrow-bodied aircraft. A remote parking bay of size 200m X 60m has been constructed next to the old hangars constructed possibly by the Spanish company. A small expansion of 45m X 30m has been added to the main terminal building. The pace of work carried out and typical Chinese barracks for construction staff along with the cement mixer plant that have come up after Shanxi group's withdrawal from the contract suggest that the CCP company as the rumours suggest is possibly still working under the garb of the new joint venture. Proposed expansions at TIA There are multiple projects are proposed but not yet seen the light of the day. An extension of 300m of the runway at the Northern end similar to the Southern for safety during landing was proposed but somehow no work has begun on it. Two remote parking bays for 15 wide-body aircraft similar to the one already constructed of size 200 m x 60 m has been proposed on the eastern side of the runway. A new larger terminal building for international travel is proposed to be built next to the present terminal building which in turn will be converted to the domestic terminal. The Nepalese government was requested by Asian Development Bank to study their proposal for this new international terminal building to be built on the eastern side of the runway. A new taxiway which probably was in the contract with the Spanish company previously has not yet commenced work. A new contract with all these proposals has possibly been awarded to another Chinese state-owned enterprise China National Aero Technology International Engineering Corporation, specialising in building airports to be completed by 2022.

UAE PM Sheikh Mohammed receives dose of Chinese Covid-19 vaccine UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum received a dose of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by China's Sinopharm on Tuesday. The Prime Minister and Vice-President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as well as the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum received a dose of the coronavirus vaccine on Tuesday. Sheikh Mohammed took to Twitter to share the news along with a photo of him getting a shot of the Covid-19 vaccine. "While receiving the Covid-19 vaccine today. We wish everyone safety and great health, and we are proud of our teams who have worked relentlessly to make the vaccine available in the UAE. The future will always be better in the UAE," he wrote in his post. According to an Al Jazeera report, Sheikh Mohammed received a shot of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by Chinese state pharmaceutical giant Sinopharm. He is the latest in the line of top Emirati officials to be vaccinated against coronavirus in recent days. The foreign minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, and deputy prime minister Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al-Nahyan have also taken the experimental vaccine. In September, Bahrain announced that Crown Prince Salman had taken part in third phase trials of the Sinopharm vaccine. SINOPHARM CANDIDATE ENTERS PHASE III TRIALS IN UAE Last month, UAE had authorised the emergency use of the Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine as part of the country's measures to protect health workers in close contact with Covid-19 patients and ensure their safety. The vaccine candidate, nearing the end of phase III trials in the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Bahrain and Jordan, is a partnership between Sinopharm's China National Biotec Group (CNBG) and Abu Dhabi-based artificial intelligence and cloud computing company Group 42 (G42). The phase III trials of the inactivated virus vaccine began in mid-July in the UAE and were expanded to Bahrain, Egypt and Jordan. G42 Healthcare CEO Ashish Koshy last month said the vaccine had been administered to more than 31,000 people across those countries. On Tuesday, Bahrain granted emergency approval for the use of the Chinese Covid-19 vaccine candidate on frontline workers. UAE APPROVES TRIALS OF RUSSIAN VACCINE Last month, authorities announced the UAE had also approved clinical trials of Russia's Sputnik V, becoming the first Middle East country to do so. Human trials of Russia’s Covid-19 vaccine, named Sputnik V, will be held in the United Arab Emirates, the second country after Belarus to take part in the programme of which results are expected before the end of November “The results of the UAE trial will be combined with the results of the of the trial in Russia and other countries,” Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) said in the statement, adding that interim results will be published before the end of November. The UAE’s health minister said that the Gulf state’s high degree of demographic diversity made it an advantageous location to hold a vaccine trial. The UAE has so far reported 1,36,149 confirmed cases of coronavirus as well as 503 deaths according to the latest data.

2021 Yamaha MT-09 showcased: Lighter, more powerful and tech-loaded! Yamaha has just dropped a first look at the 2021 MT-09, with more power, more tech and more punch than the motorcycle it replaces. HIGHLIGHTS Powered by a new 890cc cross-plane motor inline triple with 117bhp and 93Nm. 6-axis IMU adapted from the Yamaha YZF-R1. 2021 Yamaha MT-09 weighs 3kg less. The Yamaha MT-09 has always been one of the most formidable street fighters out there, although the arrival of tech-loaded rivals seems to have spurred Yamaha to completely overhaul their middle-weight naked without taking away from the MT-09s iconic presence. Changes on the MT-09 start at the front with a new design for the headlamps, replacing the old unit is a new single projector LED that is flanked by two LED strips. The new lights are a full departure from the twin-projector on the present generation of the MT. Although it is arguably less sinister in terms of appeal, it sets the tone for the rest of the 2021 MT-09. The tank too has gone under the knife with noticeably more angles and sinews. Under the skin is a new Deltabox frame for the MT-09 that's lighter than before and has 50 per cent greater lateral rigidity to improve the MT-09's stability while riding in a straight line. The 2021 MT-09 also gets a brand new swingarm made of aluminium, that is 250gm lighter than the one on the current motorcycle. All found the new frame and the lighter engine weight have resulted in a 3kg drop in the MT-09s weight with the new bike set to tip the scales at 189kg. Suspension duties are divided between fully-adjustable 41mm Kayaba USD fork and a preload plus rebound adjustable Kayaba mono-shock at the rear. The 2021 MT09 will also feature a shorter wheelbase and slightly more in the form of ground clearance as well (140mm). As a result, you get slightly tweaked ergonomics but Yamaha has also left space for some customisation on the part of the rider. The handlebars can be rotated for better reach, the footpeg height can be adjusted by 14mm and can be set 10mm either forward or behind, depending on what suits the rider. However, the biggest change features on the new cross-plane inline-triple engine. Added displacement takes the headlines with the MT-09 motor growing from 847cc to a well-rounded 890cc, courtesy a longer stroke. Forged pistons and other engine bits contribute to a lighter more powerful engine, that now make 117bhp at 10,000rpm and 93Nm of torque. In addition, the MT 09 will also feature a 6-axis IMU from the R1 that should help the MT keep that power down and ensure that most of it is available to the rider. The Yamaha MT-09 has always been at the premium end of the middle-weight segment and with the slew of updates is likely to be well north of the 12 lakh price tag on the BS4 motorcycle. Yamaha sure has given the MT-09 everything it needed in terms of kit, but with the competition, like the 790 Duke and the Triumph Street Triple already on sale and with similar kit pricing will be key.
