  1. US President Donald Trump will travel to Japan in May for meetings with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, including discussion on North Korea and "efforts to achieve final, fully verified denuclearisation". Trump's visit follows Abe's scheduled tour of the US in April where, in addition to North Korea, the two leaders are likely to discuss bilateral trade. Trump will visit Japan from May 25 - 28, the White House said in a statement on Thursday, adding that: "The two leaders will also explore ways to advance their shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific region, including steps that will strengthen our bilateral trade and investment relationship." Abe is one of Trump's closest allies on the world stage and Japan was the first stop on Trump's November 2017 Asia tour. In Tokyo, Trump plans to greet Crown Prince Naruhito, who will become emperor on May 1, a day after the abdication of his father, Emperor Akihito. Trade surplus Trump has touted his good relationship with Abe, which has seen closer security ties given shared concerns about China's growing power, but he has also made clear he is unhappy with Japan's trade surplus with the US, which was $67.6bn in goods in 2018, according to US figures. This week, US and Japanese officials held a first round of talks toward a new trade deal Trump has sought and the US side raised concerns over the "very large" trade deficit with Tokyo. Last September, Trump and Abe agreed to start trade talks in an arrangement that protects Japanese automakers from further tariffs while negotiations are under way. Abe has also insisted on holding his own summit with the North Korean leader to settle the two neighbours' long-standing differences. Denuclearisation and the abduction of Japanese citizens by North Korea decades ago to train spies have been the major obstacles in normalising relations between the two countries. In 2002, North Korea admitted it kidnapped 13 Japanese in the 1970s and 1980s, with five returning home. "I will aim at diplomatic normalisation by settling the unfortunate past," said Abe earlier this year. "From now on, I want to do our best to collaborate with the US, South Korea and also China and Russia to aim for a solution on North Korean matters, including abduction, nuclear weapons and missiles."

  4. If leaked listings from two online retailers are anything to go by, AMD is about to release a new Ryzen 7 processor to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company. AMD is almost half a century old, having been founded on May 1, 1969, so it makes sense that the firm would celebrate such a big milestone with something – and apparently that’s a new AMD Ryzen 7 2700X 50th Anniversary Edition (bundled with a Wraith Prism cooler, just like the existing vanilla 2700X). That’s the product listed on ShopBLT.com, as highlighted by Tom’s Hardware, although it is no longer available to pre-order there. However, we noticed that it has also popped up on Connection.com (with the product code number YD270XBGAFA50), where the CPU is still on pre-order for now. At the time of writing, ShopBLT.com states that: “We are not accepting new orders for this item at this time, and this item will be removed from our site shortly. We have no information as to when we will be accepting more orders for this item.” Interestingly, the retailer mentions the possibility of ‘accepting more orders’ down the line, which seems to indicate that this is a temporary removal, possibly because someone has had a slap on the wrist from AMD? Price is right? At any rate, neither retailer has provided any details about what the processor will offer in terms of specs – which makes things look a bit sketchier. We can only guess that it might bump up clock speeds from the vanilla 2700X, which seems the most likely course of action for AMD to take. The only details given are the name of the processor and its price, which was $341 (around £260, AU$480) at ShopBLT.com when pre-orders were live previously, and is $373 (around £295, AU$520) at Connection.com. So clearly the CPU is intended to be pitched around the $350 mark, assuming this whole affair isn’t some kind of fake. Keep that pinch of salt handy, as ever, with these sort of leaks. Interestingly, before it was changed, the ShopBLT.com listing showed that the retailer will be stocking 1,200 units of the processor, so if that’s true, it doesn’t sound like it’s going to be a particularly limited edition of the 2700X. You probably recall that last year, Intel launched its own Anniversary Edition chip in the form of the Core i7-8086K to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company, and the 40th anniversary of the original 8086 CPU. We found this limited edition processor to be quite the performer in the overclocking arena.
  5. Melania Trump says she's ready to serve another four years as first lady if her husband is re-elected. "I love what I do," she said on Monday. The first lady revealed her intentions during a question-and-answer period with students at Albritton Middle School at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. She traveled there with Karen Pence, US Vice President Mike Pence's wife, to tour the installation and meet students as part of their shared focus on military families. When a student asked if they wanted to serve again, they said they would. "I think our husbands are doing (a) fantastic job and I will support my husband if he decided to run again," Mrs. Trump said. "And yes, it's a privilege, a great honor to serve and I will be here." Trump announced a re-election bid during his first year in office. Mrs. Pence echoed the first lady. She noted that she is not elected or appointed, but is where she is "because I'm married to Mike Pence". "What a privilege and honour to be able to go on this journey and it would be a privilege to continue as well," said Mrs. Pence, whose son is a Marine. Asked how their new positions had changed their lives, Mrs. Trump talked about moving from New York and taking on different responsibilities. "But I would not change (it) for anything. I love what I do ... I will always shine a light on children and (the) next generation." Mrs. Pence said one of the biggest changes for her and her husband "is the fact that we don't drive anymore ... somebody takes us everywhere".
  6. The cost of keeping Mark Zuckerberg safe got a whole lot more expensive after Facebook's year from hell. In a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Friday, the social network revealed its CEO's total compensation package for the 12 months ended 31 December 2018. Despite only drawing a salary of $1 (R13.9), Zuckerberg's pay more than doubled to R278 million last year, up from R126 million in 2017. The main reason for this: Zuckerberg's security costs. In a tumultuous year for his company, in which Zuckerberg had to conduct an apology tour for disasters including the massive Cambridge Analytica data breach, fake news, and election interference by bad actors on his platform. What's more, Zuckerberg's security bill included a "pre-tax allowance" of R139 million to "cover additional costs" associated with keeping not just the CEO safe, but also his family. Zuckerberg is married to Priscilla Chan and they have two children together. By way of comparison, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos was paid just R22 million for security reasons, according to a filing this week. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi's compensation included R27.8 million for protection, the firm's IPO filing revealed. In the SEC filing, Facebook admitted that Zuckerberg is often a lightning rod for anger at Facebook. He is the face of the company, and when its 2 billion users feel aggrieved, Zuckerberg is targeted. It reveals how thousands of people try to gain access to Facebook's Menlo Park headquarters every week to, among other things, meet Zuckerberg. There's a persistent rumour he also has a secret "panic chute" so he can evacuate the building quickly, although the truth of this is unclear. Here's some insight into how Zuckerberg's security operation works from Business Insider's investigation in March (it has been edited lightly for clarity): "Armed executive-protection officers stand on constant guard outside his gated homes in the Bay Area (at least one of which also has a panic room). If he goes to a bar, his team will sweep through ahead of time to make sure it's safe. They will vet any new doctors or trainers if he wants to take up a new hobby. He is driven everywhere.
  7. The world’s fastest four-door sedan, the Jaguar XE SV Project 8, added a new lap record to its growing list of global achievements. The stock, standard Jaguar Project 8 lapped the 5.39km Dubai Autodrome GP circuit in 2min18.81, making it the fastest four-seater, four-door sedan around the circuit. The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 is the most extreme Jaguar saloon ever produced. Based on the Jaguar XE, the SV Project 8 is the most track-ready version designed, engineered and hand-assembled by Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations. To preserve the exclusivity and collectability of the most powerful and agile Jaguar road car ever, the brand will build and sell no more than 300 examples worldwide. Limited numbers The Project 8 has already claimed two previous records at the challenging 20.8km Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany in November 2017, followed by California’s Laguna Seca Raceway in September last year. The new lap record was accomplished by Jaguar Land Rover Test Driver & Engineering support, Xavi Barrio Duato. Xavi brings with him a wealth of driving experience gathered in Spain and China over decades. Salman Sultan, regional public relations and social media manager said: “The Nürburgring is a well-worn test bed for manufacturers to challenge themselves against the competition but that is only one track. With the Jaguar XE SV Project 8, our aim is to prove that it is the fastest four-door saloon in the world by setting records at several tracks under different climatic conditions and surfaces.”
  8. Granted a Brexit reprieve by the European Union, British Prime Minister Theresa May urged lawmakers Thursday to pause, reflect on the need for compromise — and then fulfill their "national duty" to approve a divorce deal and take Britain out of the EU. But there is little sign the UK's divided and exhausted lawmakers will heed the EU's plea not to waste the six months of extra time granted to Britain at an emergency summit in Brussels. Updating the House of Commons hours after the 27 other EU leaders agreed to postpone Brexit until October 31, May said she knew the country was "intensely frustrated" by the impasse. "I never wanted to seek this extension," May said. She urged members of Parliament to take stock and "reflect" over a 10-day Easter break that starts Friday. "We need to resolve this, so that we can leave the European Union with a deal as soon as possible," she said. "This is our national duty as elected members of this House." Consensus, however, was in short supply. Opposition Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, with whom May hopes to strike a compromise accord, called the Brexit delay "another milestone in the government's mishandling of the entire Brexit process". Deep recession "The prime minister stuck rigidly to a flawed plan and now the clock has run down, leaving Britain in limbo," Corbyn said. And there was little solace for May on her own side of the House of Commons, as pro-Brexit lawmakers from her Conservative Party accused her of capitulating to Brussels. Brexiteer Conservative legislator Peter Bone said May had once vowed that she would not keep the U.K. in the EU past June 30. "So I expect her to say when she's leaving in the next few days and then the announcement of a Conservative leadership contest," he said. Longer extension EU leaders, weary of the Brexit melodrama and divided over how long a delay to grant, met for more than six hours before agreeing to postpone Brexit until Halloween. Britain has the option of leaving before that if May succeeds in getting a withdrawal agreement ratified by Parliament. "Please, do not waste this time," European Council President Donald Tusk pleaded. Like many things Brexit-related, the extension was a messy compromise that left many unsatisfied. May came to the summit in Brussels seeking a delay to June 30. Some European leaders favoured a longer extension, but French President Emmanuel Macron was wary of anything more than a very short delay. May said she was satisfied with the flexible extension to October 31, which keeps alive her hope the UK might leave by June 30.
  9. The Jeep Gladiator will reign supreme at this year’s Easter Jeep Safari as the Jeep and Mopar brands have once again joined forces to create six new, custom-built concept vehicles for the annual event that takes place in Moab, Utah, from 13 - 21 April. For the 53rd year, thousands of off-road enthusiasts will head to Moab for the annual Jeep event to participate in a week of technical off-roading on some of the most challenging and scenic terrain in the country. A vast selection of production and prototype Jeep Performance Parts are among the highlights on this year’s collection of Jeep concept vehicles. The Mopar brand develops all Jeep Performance Parts with rigorous specifications and legendary 4x4 capability in mind. Jeep Wayout The Jeep Wayout concept takes advantage of the all-new Gladiator’s class-leading payload to allow adventure seekers to go far off the beaten path. The Jeep Wayout is a functional concept that showcases a full roof-top tent and custom, large sprawling canopy. Wayout’s body-armored exterior features a new Gator Green colour that will be available on production Gladiator models. A custom bed rack with an integrated ladder carries the roof-top tent that sleeps two comfortably, while the 270-degree awning with amber LED task lighting helps travellers set up camp when the day is done. Jeep Flatbill Designed with the desert lifestyle in mind, the Jeep Flatbill concept is another fun look at the all-new Gladiator, mixed with the extreme thrills of the Motocross world – resulting in an unmistakable, loud and rowdy appearance that serves as the ultimate hauler for an array of toys. Large rear bypass shocks along with 20-inch wheels have been added, as well as 40-inch tires – the first time on any Jeep Gladiator. The Jeep Flatbill is powered by the 3.6-liter V6 engine with a cold-air Mopar intake and mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Jeep M-715 Five-Quarter The term “Five-Quarter” is a historical nod to Jeep trucks of the past that were one and one-quarter tons – or “five quarters.” On the exterior, the original front sheet metal was removed and a full carbon-fiber front end takes its place. Also, an all-new, bobbed 6-foot custom-fabricated aluminum bed was installed that has been perforated and re-imaged using a mix of water jet cut panels and wood slats. Additional body modifications include a 3.5-inch drop to its convertible soft-top, further enhancing its factory monster truck silhouette. Jeep J6 The Jeep J6 is a Rubicon customized in a two-door configuration, maximizing cargo space with a large, six-foot functional bed “box” area that is 12 inches longer than the standard Jeep Gladiator bed. Mopar and the Jeep Design team reached back in time for the custom Metallic Brilliant Blue paint; a homage to the exterior look of the 1978 Jeep Honcho.. Jeep JT Scrambler The Jeep JT Scrambler concept is a heritage-inspired remix, carrying the throwback color palette and graphics of the iconic CJ Scrambler crossed with a combination of available Jeep Performance Parts and conceptual touches. The Jeep Performance Parts 17-inch slot wheels are customized in a concept bronze to tie in with the exterior colour theme. A 2-inch Jeep Performance Parts lift kit helps accommodate large, 37-inch tires and tough Jeep Performance Parts rock rails feature a non-slip grip. The 3.6-liter engine is augmented with a Mopar cold-air intake and cat-back exhaust. Jeep Gladiator Gravity The rock climber-themed Jeep Gladiator Gravity concept is elevated with a full complement of available-at-launch Jeep Performance Parts from Mopar to help equip those who have a desire to reach greater heights. The Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, coloured in attention-grabbing Punk’N Metallic Orange, is a ready-to-order expression of how Jeep Performance Parts can help enhance the all-new pickup’s capability and versatility.
  10. Brexit is on course to be delayed until the end of October under a plan to avoid a chaotic no-deal split, risking six more months of political uncertainty over Britain’s ties to the European Union. The blueprint hashed out during six hours of talks in Brussels allows the UK to stay in the bloc until October 31, with a review of progress to be held in June. British Prime Minister Theresa May accepted the offer and must now sell it to skeptical members of Parliament in London. May will need to return to London on Thursday and explain the delay she had previously said would be unacceptable to a Parliament and a Conservative Party that are losing patience with her leadership. While the extension avoids the risk of a disorderly no-deal Brexit on Friday, it sets up a political crisis later on this year and could trigger an immediate backlash that risks destabilizing the government. "The choices we now face are stark, and the timetable is clear," May told reporters at a news conference shortly before 3 a.m. in Brussels. "I do not pretend the next few weeks will be easy." The pound was unchanged on the news, as investors had priced in a delay. Diplomats were quick to point out that this might not be the last extension Britain is granted and European Council President Donald Tusk didn’t exclude the possibility. The October 31 deadline is a compromise and the UK can leave sooner if Parliament ratifies the divorce deal. May asked for a short delay until the end of June, but Tusk proposed a delay of as long as a year. At the summit on Wednesday, French President Emmanuel Macron took a hard line - and a leading role in the discussions - pushing for a shorter extension and tougher conditions to make sure the UK can’t sabotage EU business on its way out. European Elections But May’s request has been rebuffed, making it now highly likely that the UK will be required to take part in European Parliament elections next month. That’s something the premier and many of her own Conservative Party colleagues have said would be unacceptable three years after Britain voted to leave the EU. The danger for May is that she will now have to sell a longer delay to a domestic audience than she wanted. That risks a political backlash from critics inside her Conservative Party who believe postponing the UK's departure is a betrayal of the 2016 referendum vote and could even lead to Brexit being canceled. October is particularly fraught timing: It’s political convention season in the UK and if May is still in power she could see her political rivals lining up to showcase their hard-line negotiating credentials in front of pro-Brexit Conservative members.
  11. Toyota has refreshed its pioneering Prius with a new sense of style and a simplified design language. With cleaner and more engaging lines, the Toyota hybrid features new front and rear treatment, as well as sharper, sleeker headlights and rear combination lights. Inside, the cabin incorporates design tweaks to improve ergonomics, as well as changes to the interior trim whilst retaining the black leather upholstery. Restyled design The updated Prius features restyled front and rear bumpers that give it a more flowing appearance that is further enhanced by its slightly longer (+35mm) overall length. Toyota says that the new slim line headlights with bi-beam LEDs and a revised lower intake accentuate the sharper, sleeker aesthetic. A change to LED fog lights unify the front-light signature. At the rear, new combination LED lights mirror the shape of the headlights by introducing a more horizontal look to emphasise the car's width and low centre of gravity. Proven Powertrain The current generation of Prius was launched in early 2016 and was the first model in the Toyota range to feature the Toyota New Generation Architecture (TNGA) platform series. The new platform complemented the latest generation petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain combining a 1.8-litre petrol engine with two motor generators to provide the optimum balance of performance and fuel efficiency depending on driving behaviour and road conditions. The total system output is quoted as 100kW. Safety systems consist of seven airbags [front (driver + passenger) + curtain + side (front) + driver knee], full active electronic suite (VSC, ABS, EBD, brake assist and traction control) and ISOFIX attachment points. The new Toyota Prius 1.8 retails for R490 200 and comes standard with a six services/90 000km service plan. Service intervals are pegged at 15 000km. The warranty period on general items is three-years/100 000km, whilst the hybrid battery warranty is sti[CENSORED]ted as eight-years/195 000km.
  12. A senior German official is demanding "substantial steps" forward in Britain's Brexit standoff and insisting any delay must come with strict conditions, as Prime Minister Theresa May prepares to plead for more time in Berlin. Michael Roth, Germany's deputy foreign minister, said as he arrived at a European Union meeting in Luxembourg on Tuesday that "so far absolutely nothing has changed" and, "We are in a very, very frustrating situation here." May has asked for a new delay until June 30. The bloc's leaders are due to meet on Wednesday to consider the request. May is visiting Berlin and Paris later on Tuesday. Roth said: "Within the European Union, there isn't an endless readiness to keep talking about delays so long as there is no substantial progress on the British side."

  13. All new Volvo V60 with sleeker styling, a larger interior, improved performance Standard 9-inch display screen, Volvo’s City Safe Technology, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto Available in two trim levels: Momentum and Inscription Starting price should be around $40,000 Volvo pretty much owns the luxury station wagon market in the U.S. Station wagons may not be the most vibrant vehicle segment these days, but Volvo knows it has a core fanbase that loves wagons in general and Volvo wagons in particular. It’s this fanbase Volvo is targeting with the all-new 2019 Volvo V60. Improvements in styling, interior space, performance, fuel efficiency, and safety tech suggest Volvo’s grip on the luxury station wagon space will only tighten with the new V60. Sleeker styling wrapped around a larger interior Offered in two trim levels, Momentum and Inscription, the 2019 V60 features an all-new chassis and body wrapped around a roomier interior. Volvo focused on design and versatility, improving both through a combination of structural and styling upgrades. The new wagon’s length increases by 4.9 inches, with a wheelbase that’s 3.8 inches longer. This reduces front and rear overhang and combines with a 2.2-inch drop in roof height -- plus a standard rear spoiler -- to give the wagon a streamlined profile. The new V60’s look is further enhanced by sleek, T-shaped LED headlights and prominent, elevated LED taillights, both standard on all models. Advanced technology “Volvo” and “Safety”, however, are terms buyers readily connect, and the V60 maintains this tradition with a host of advanced standard and optional technology features. Volvo’s “City Safety” system includes automatic emergency braking to avoid pedestrians, cyclists and large animals. It also now includes brake mitigation to avoid head-on collisions. Optional safety equipment includes cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring and Pilot Assist, a “hands-on-the-wheel” system to remove stress from stop-and-go traffic. Pilot assist will modulate the throttle and brake to match surrounding traffic speeds. It also provides steering input to keep the V60 in its lane. Pilot assist can be used up to 80 mph, and it includes new technology to match the car’s speed to curves, based on map data. It can actually lower the V60’s speed to make curves more comfortable when using cruise control.
  14. Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called on Iraq to demand US troops leave "as soon as possible" during a meeting with the Iraqi prime minister in Tehran. "You should take actions to make sure the Americans withdraw their troops from Iraq as soon as possible because wherever they have had an enduring presence, forcing them out has become problematic," Khamenei said on Saturday according to his official website. "The current government and parliament in Iraq and the political figures are not what the US desires; they plot to remove them from the political scene of Iraq," he told Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdel Mahdi. Abdel Mahdi, on his first official visit to Iran, also met on Saturday with President Hassan Rouhani, who visited Iraq in March. Baghdad is under pressure from Washington to limit ties with its neighbour, particularly after the US withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal last year and hit Tehran with sanctions. Iran has close but complicated ties with Iraq, with significant influence among its Shi'ite political groups. The two countries fought a bloody war from 1980 to 1988 and Tehran's influence in Baghdad grew after the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq toppled the government of Saddam Hussein. Iran was the first country to respond to Iraqi calls for help after Islamic State group jihadists captured Mosul in 2014 and threatened to overrun Baghdad and Kirkuk. Tehran dispatched "military advisors" and equipment overnight along with the famous Revolutionary Guards elite Qods Force commander Qasem Soleimani to prevent IS jihadists from approaching its western borders.

  15. Expect a wide array of engine options, including a high-performance model and a mild hybrid Audi expanded and enhanced the A7's tech and connectivity options New style is sharper, more aggressive Big, bold, and beautiful, Audi’s fastback A7 sedan receives a major makeover for model year 2019, the first since its introduction in 2012. Sharing the architecture of Audi’s new flagship A8, the A7 continues to feature a sleek hatchback design—Sportback, in Audi speak—in contrast to the three-box formal sedan look of the A8. Elements of the update include an expanded grille that sits slightly lower in a more vertical front end treatment, flanked by narrower headlamps at the top and large air intakes down low. Wider fender flares, sheltering alloy wheels up to 21 inches in diameter, and a strong lower body character line lend a more athletic look to the exterior, while pruning just over a half-inch from overall length (195.6 inches on a fractionally shorter 115.2-inch wheelbase) reduces front and rear overhangs. Width is 75.6 inches, and the tallest point of the sloping roof is 56.0. A new taillamp spans the entire rear of the car, just below a retractable rear spoiler. Powertrain changes The power source is familiar: Audi’s turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 (340 horsepower, 369 lb-ft of torque in Euro tune). However, a new 7-speed dual clutch automated manual transmission replaces the previous 8-speed automatic, sending thrust to a Quattro all-wheel drive system that includes optional torque vectoring. Audi anticipates 62 mph acceleration of 5.3 seconds, and combined urban-highway fuel economy of almost 35 mpg. Top speed, like most German sedans, will be an electronically limited to 155 mph. Technology Galore Like the A8, the A7 raises the electronic and infotainment ante with a new version of Audi’s MMI system that includes two touchscreens, one at the leading edge of the center console, the second on the dashboard. The center console screen controls HVAC, while the 10.1-inch dashboard version governs infotainment and connectivity features, as well as navigation. The old control knob is gone, and owners will look in vain for knobs or switches—everything operates by touch or voice command. Optional electronic elements include Audi’s 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit gauge array and a color head-up display.

  16. Declaring "our country is full", President Donald Trump on Friday insisted the US immigration system was overburdened and illegal crossings must be stopped as he inspected a refurbished section of fencing at the Mexican border. Trump, making a renewed push for border security as a central campaign issue for his 2020 re-election, participated in a briefing on immigration and border security in Calexico before viewing a 3.2-km see-through steel-slat barrier that was a long-planned replacement for an older barrier — and not new wall. "There is indeed an emergency on our southern border," Trump said at the briefing, adding that there has been a sharp uptick in illegal crossings. "It's a colossal surge and it's overwhelming our immigration system, and we can't let that happen. ... We can't take you anymore. We can't take you. Our country is full." As Air Force One touched down in the state, California and 19 other states that are suing Trump over his emergency declaration to build a border wall requested a court order to stop money from being diverted to fund the project. But Trump, who ratcheted up his hard-line immigration rhetoric in recent weeks, declared that his move, which included vetoing a congressional vote, was necessary. Also on Friday, House Democrats filed a lawsuit preventing Trump from spending more money than Congress has approved to erect barriers along the southwestern border. Congress approved just under $1.4bn for work on border barricades. Trump has asserted he can use his powers as chief executive to transfer an additional $6.7bn to wall construction.
  17. 6.75-liter turbocharged V12 8-speed auto transmission Revamped air suspension system Rolls-Royce is the latest high-end luxury make to enter the SUV derby with its all-new 2019 Rolls-Royce Cullinan, a vehicle it describes as an “authentic, 3-box high-bodied all-terrain car.” It offers traditional Rolls-Royce cues including its signature grille topped by the Spirit of Ecstasy mascot, coach-style doors and a V12 engine beneath the hood. While the exterior of the vehicle is an upright, 2-box design, Rolls-Royce has incorporated a partition between the rear seat and the load area to create the three separate areas, the nose for the powertrain, the center part of the cabin for passengers and the aft portion for cargo. V12 power Beneath the hood is Rolls-Royce’s 6.75-liter turbocharged V12 engine, which produces 563 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. The Cullinan is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission as well as all-wheel drive and steering and a revamped air suspension system than gives the vehicle its off-road capabilities. While Rolls did not provide data on acceleration, it did say the vehicle has an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. Riding on a 130-inch wheelbase, the Cullinan measures 210 inches in overall length and stands 72 inches tall. It is 85 inches wide and inside there are two seating configurations offered, a 5-passenger setup with three across rear seating and a more exclusive 4-seat arrangement.
  18. Facebook appears to have dropped the ball on privacy controls again after hundreds of millions of user records were exposed on public servers. According to a report in the Guardian, cyber security researchers discovered 540 million Facebook records on public Amazon cloud servers. "One, originating from the Mexico-based media company Cultura Colectiva, weighs in at 146 gigabytes and contains over 540 million records detailing comments, likes, reactions, account names, FB IDs and more," said UpGuard which reported the breach. "This same type of collection, in similarly concentrated form, has been cause for concern in the recent past, given the potential uses of such data." The company added that passwords for 22 000 users were stored in plain text, making them easy to read before the breach was plugged. Facebook user data breaches Facebook has come under pressure of its handling of user information. In 2018, the massive social network was involved in a scandal after it emerged that political consultancy Cambridge Analytica was able to access millions of users. The company singled out Amazon Web Services' (AWS) S3 cloud storage as responsible for facilitating the breach. "Over four years, UpGuard has detected thousands of S3-related data breaches caused by the incorrect configuration of S3 security settings. Jeff Barr, Chief Evangelist for Amazon Web Services recently announced public access settings for S3 buckets, a new feature designed to help AWS customers stop the epidemic of data breaches caused by incorrect S3 security settings," UpGuard said. The company argued that AWS makes it too easy for users to misconfigure its buckets and urged the giant to make data buckets private by default. Changes AWS announced a public flag for open buckets in 2017 and launched a machine learning service, Amazon Macie, to automatically protect data. But while UpGuard applauded these changes, it argued that they may not enough - mainly because users continue to have the ability to set data buckets to public. "Amazon's new S3 security features will likely have the same effect as their previous efforts: They will secure more buckets, but not all. For example, after the launch of the 'public' flag for open buckets and the email campaign to owners of those buckets in November 2017, we saw many buckets disappear. But we also saw many more buckets with sensitive information persist, and new ones created since then with sensitive, publicly accessible data."

  19. Remember the third-generation L200 bakkie built and sold here as the Colt in the good old days when Mitsubishi was still in cahoots with Mercedes-Benz? Well, the thoroughly titivated new Triton from the Japanese brand, now part of the Nissan-Renault Alliance, is reminiscent of this model – the last L200 model that really sold well in South Africa. Actually; the striking latest incarnation of the fifth generation L200 (the Triton name was introduced to South Africa in 2006 with the launch of fourth generation Mitsubishi bakkie) shows what the Triton should have featured when it was launched here only two short years ago. So, call it version 5.5 of the 40-year old L200 concept if you want but the latest Triton not only now matches up to the competition in terms of quality and technology; it also now really looks the part with a bold and strong face… Gone are rounded surfaces and shape of the last two-and-a-half generations, and back is the angular looks of its first two predecessors – in part due to the new Dynamic Shield design direction already incorporated in the new Eclipse Cross and Outlander ranges. Striking design This striking, more powerful design job forms one leg of a triad of improvements, as Mitsubishi used the makeover opportunity to also introduce enhancements to the automatic transmission and already class-leading 4x4 drivetrain, as well as some small cabin updates. The higher hood line, the higher located and beefier-looking headlights, more pronounced grille treatment and angular front air inlet and larger, squared front bumper gives the new model a powerful and imposing appearance that even Ranger Raptor or Hilux Dakar owners will find intimidating. A host of active safety and driver assistance systems, including seven airbags, Isofix child seat anchors and auto door lock, were carried over, with some enhancements such as a rear-view camera, keyless operating system, high-mounted rear stop lamp and a soft-sprung tailgate. On the road…The extensively revamped newcomer is still powered by the tried and tested 2.4-litre MIVEC DOHC turbodiesel engine introduced with the fifth-generation model range in 2015 (it was the initial unavailability of these engines that led to the local launch of this model Triton being delayed for nearly two years). Delivering an impressive 133kW at 3 500 rpm and 430Nm of torque at 2 500 rpm, I rate this common rail direct injection mill as probably the best in its class – and now being combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission with Intelligent Shift Control (compared to its predecessor’s 5-speed ’box) its good attributes are further emphasised.
  20. There are literally over a 100 000 flights taking place across the globe daily. Humans have never been able to move across countries and borders with such ease as they do today. But which countries are outpacing each other across the skies? The latest OAG report takes a look at exactly that, based on data and analysis of the world’s busiest routes by number of flights for the period March 2018-February 2019. Fifteen of the Top 20 busiest international routes are in Asia Pacific, with a cluster around the Asian hub airports of Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. The busiest international route in the world is between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore with over 30 000 flights in the course of a year, operated by 8 carriers with an average of 82 flights per day. OAG analysis shows that on average Asian routes (domestic and international) operate with seven carriers, whilst in the US and Europe, the average carrier per route is three. Globally, seven of the Top 10 busiest long-haul routes start or end in the US. With 15 587 flights over 12 months, the service between New York (JFK) and San Francisco (SFO) topped the long-haul route list, followed closely by New York (JFK) to London Heathrow (LHR) with 14 195 operating flights. The busiest international route outside of Asia is ranked 8th and is LaGuardia Airport in New York - Toronto Pearson in North America. It has the fewest airlines competing of any Top 10 route, and also has the lowest OTP at 54.9%. This is the only listing where South Africa featured. The Cape Town to Johannesburg route sees 33 708 flights during a year. The Top 20 busiest domestic routes are located in 13 different countries in every continent except Europe. The busiest domestic route in the world, by a large margin, operates between Jeju and Seoul Gimpo. With nearly 80 000 annual flights, this high frequency service is operated by seven carriers who between them provide over 200 daily services. Indonesia is home to more of the Top 20 busiest domestic routes than any other country, with three.
