In September 2019, Porsche finally pulled the wraps off its new full-electric car, the Taycan. For the first time in the automaker’s history, it will mass-produce an electric car that it hopes will pave the way for its future and how the buying public perceives the brand. Followers of Porsche’s electric path will recall its Le Mans racing cars and 918 Spyder, but those cars were not produced for the broader public, nor in mass production. The Taycan, however, will be. Before Covic-19 threw everything into turmoil, the Taycan would have seen its South African debut come to fruition, but the global automotive sphere is in a perplexing state. One that needs a delicate hand if we’re to come out the other side safely and unscathed. But the Taycan will be launched locally. It’s just a matter of when. History comes into play The motor industry is in a transitional phase, whether we want it or not. That phase is seeing your traditional internal combustion engine make way for alternative sources of power - the most prominent being electric mobility. A few years ago, Ferrari (LaFerrari), McLaren (P1), and Porsche (918 Spyder) all flirted with electric cars. It was an attempt to test the waters, if you will, and gaze how consumers will react to these cars. It was a monumental success as every unit of all three cars were sold. Should we be excited? It would be a sin not to be excited about this car’s arrival, mainly because it’s Porsche’s first foray into this sphere of the market. And initial impressions are that Porsche outdid themselves. Four variants will be available, with the Turbo and Turbo S headlining the range. For the Turbo S, an 800v battery generates as much as 460kW and 1050Nm - the former pushed to 560kW on over-boost. Despite a kerb weight of 2295kg, the Taycan Turbo S can run from 0-100km/h in 2.8

France on Monday announced that more than 20 000 people had now died from the novel coronavirus in the country after 547 new fatalities, even as tentative signs grew that its epidemic was steadying. "Tonight, our country has passed a barrier that is symbolic and particularly painful," top health official Jerome Salomon told reporters. He announced that the country's total death toll was 20 265, while welcoming new falls in the numbers in hospital and intensive care. Salomon noted that this figure was well above the 14 000 people who died in the worst recent flu epidemic and even topped the 19 000 killed by the 2003 heatwave. ICU cases continue to drop The death toll includes 12 513 people who died in hospital and 7752 people who lost their lives in old people's homes and other nursing homes. But he also welcomed data indicating that a person with Covid-19 in France was now infecting on average less than one other person, as opposed to three before the country went into lockdown more than a month ago. "This is how we will manage to put the brakes on the epidemic," he said. The number of people in intensive care infected with Covid-19 fell for the 12th day in a row, by 61 patients to 5863. "The fall... is being confirmed but it remains very slight," said Salomon. Meanwhile the number of patients in hospital fell by 26 - the sixth successive daily decrease - to 30 584. France has been in lockdown since March 17 in a bid to slow the spread of the epidemic. But President Emmanuel Macron announced last week that the lockdown could begin to be eased from May 11. Schools could gradually reopen then but cafes, cinemas and cultural venues would remain closed, and there could be no summer festivals until mid-July at the earliest.

Back in 2002, Nissan launched its 350Z sports car in South Africa. Available in both coupé and convertible guises, the car became a massive hit. So immense was its po[CENSORED]rity that 'EA Games' had it as the feature car on 'Need for Speed: Underground 2.' Oh, what a game! After a few years, the 350Z was replaced by the 370Z and after almost a decade, it received a quick nip-and-tuck. Just to keep it fresh and, dare we say it, relevant. Because let’s be honest, the 370Z trails the competition by quite some margin. The automatic transmission, for instance, is not as sharp as the one used in the Toyota GR Supra, or even the BMW Z4. The Nissan is old by today’s standards, and a new model is long overdue. In a segment where sales are hovering around single figures, Nissan is left with a big decision: either drop the 370Z from its line-up or bring an entirely new model to market. It would seem that the latter is in the works. Not confirming anything Speaking to the UK-based motoring publication AutoCar, Alfonso Albaisa, head of design at Nissan, said: "The Z is the car that democratised sports cars back in the ’60s. Before that, you had to have the money to buy a Porsche or Jaguar. The current car has been a long time in dealerships, and so you can imagine the designers working on a successor, even if I’m not going to confirm it." Hmm, that pretty much sounds like confirmation that a successor to the 370Z is in the works. Rumours are circulating that the next Z car could be called the 400Z, and it is easy to understand why. If Nissan does proceed with its next-generation Z car, the current model’s 3.7-litre V6 petrol engine would have to make way. Given that V6 engines power Nissan’s Zs, the automaker could look to its luxury brand, Infiniti, for a solution. Will it happen?! Converting that horsepower figure will give you close to 300kW - substantially more than the 370Z’s 245kW. In the Q60, the power helps propel the car from 0-100km/h in 5.0 seconds. Helped, in part, by a four-wheel-drive system. The 400Z, if it does see the light, could utilise this engine and see a slightly 0-100km/h sprint time thanks to a lower weight. Furthermore, the 400Z would have to be rear-wheel-drive, so borrowing a suitable architecture from Infiniti, most like the Q50 or even the Q60 is not out of the question. The reason for this would be because the 400Z will sell in low volumes, so there is no need to spend money on an entirely new platform. Just as a reference, think Supra/Z4.

China's economy contracted for the first time in decades last quarter as drastic measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic brought activity to a standstill, official data showed on Friday. Gross domestic product shrank 6.8% in the January-March quarter from the same period a year earlier, according to figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). It was the first negative growth reported by the world's second-largest economy since Beijing began logging quarterly data in the early 1990s. The figure marks a sharp drop from China's six percent expansion in the fourth quarter of last year, but was slightly better than the 8.2% contraction forecast by economists in an AFP poll. Economists have long harboured doubts about the accuracy of the official Chinese data, however, suspecting that the numbers are massaged for political reasons. And analysts have warned of tougher times ahead, with weaker external demand for Chinese goods to weigh on growth as key export markets are battered by Covid-19. "We are now facing rising pressure in the prevention of imported epidemic infections, as well as new difficulties and challenges for resuming work and production," NBS spokesperson Mao Shengyong told a press conference. Grim picture Full-year GDP growth expectations have fallen to 1.7%, according to AFP's poll - the worst annual performance since 1976. The International Monetary Fund has pegged China's 2020 full-year expansion even lower at 1.2% but predicts a strong rebound to 9.2% in 2021. It has also painted a grim picture of the global impact of the Covid-19 outbreak, forecasting the deepest economic contraction since the Great Depression of the 1930s. Friday's data showed a 1.1 decline in industrial output for March, reflecting lingering damage from factory shutdowns even as travel restrictions in the country were progressively eased and businesses stirred back to life. Retail sales also plummeted 15.8% last month as many consumers stayed home and avoided crowds due to fears of a resurgence in virus cases. But the urban unemployment rate dropped slightly to 5.9% last month, after surging to 6.2% in February. Underwhelming recovery China has set an ambitious target of eradicating extreme poverty and building a "moderately prosperous society" by the end of 2020, but this is increasingly under threat from the pandemic fallout. "Public records suggest that at least half a million firms were dissolved in the first quarter and more are likely to close shop," said Capital Economics chief Asia economist Mark Williams in a report this week. Surveys pointed to more layoffs in March, and unemployment will likely remain higher in the coming months, he said.

Why? Well, judged solely on what a luxury limousine needs to deliver, namely supreme refinement and smoothness for the passenger, and low-running costs and low emissions for the owner, the new A8 60 TFSIe is not just simply on a par with its petrol and diesel equivalents, it’s better. But then again, it should be. Both BMW and Mercedes have had plug-in versions of their respective limos on sale for the past couple of years, giving the engineers at Ingolstadt both something to aim for and also the opportunity to make use of the newest hybrid tech on the market. That tech includes a 126bhp ‘permanently excited’ electric motor (like a Porsche Taycan) paired to a more conventional 335bhp 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine. The total combined output of 443bhp is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox, resulting in some pretty punchy performance. 0-62mph takes just 4.9 seconds (quicker than both the S560e and 745e) and given the run of a German Autobahn it will accelerate up to an electronically-limited 155mph. What's it like? Indeed, with a fully charged battery, the plug-in A8 to all intents and purposes functions like a fully electric vehicle; Audi’s ‘permanently excited’ unit having enough poke for most situations. It’ll even accelerate up to 84mph on battery power alone, making for a beautifully serene experience for passengers, with no engine noise or jerky gearchanges disturbing the relaxed ambiance. When the V6 petrol engine does eventually kick-in, the transition from electric to petrol power is seamless to the point of being nearly undetectable. This, combined with a distinct lack of wind noise, makes the manner in which it accelerates somewhat deceptive, the 60 TFSIe gaining speed like an A380 at takeoff. Should I buy one? Well, it all depends on how you’re going to use your A8. If you cover big motorway miles, go for one of the diesels. You won’t reap the benefits of the electrified powertrain otherwise. However, if you spend a great deal of time in a city, then the 60 TFSIe is a true no brainer. Not only is it smoother than its diesel counterpart, it's quieter than a pair of Bose noise cancelling headphones and impressively frugal – we saw over 100mpg on our inner-city test route. Plus, with a nearly 30 mile all-electric range and a CO2 rating of just 60g/km, the 60 TFSIe is not only congestion charge exempt, but it should also make for a relatively cheap company car, too. If those kinds of figures don’t demonstrate the virtues of electrification, we don’t know what will.

Italian health officials cheered on Friday after the number of people currently being treated for Covid-19 rose by only a few hundred for the first time since the outbreak began. Figures from the civil protection service showed the number of those receiving hospital care or recovering at home under medical supervision rising by 355 to 106 962 on Friday. But the figure outside the outbreak's Italian epicentre in Milan's norther region of Lombardy went up by just 11 cases. It went up by 344 in Lombardy itself. The number had been rising by at least 1000 a day nationally for over a month. "In absolute terms, we have had had the highest number of recoveries since the start of the crisis," civil protection service chief Angelo Berrelli told reporters. Italy's official death toll still rose by another 575 fatalities Friday to 22 745 - second-most after the United States. The number of people currently suffering from Covid-19 is counted separately from the number of new officially registered infections. That number rose by 3493 on Friday - about the same as it has been all week. The generally improving picture prompted the civil protection service to announce that it was suspending daily briefings and moving to a twice-a-week format. New tolls will still be issued daily. Waiting for green light The Italian government is waiting for the green light from leading doctors to start lifting an economically devastating lockdown that has left millions furloughed and unemployed. The current restrictions are due to expire on 4 May and the government is planning to partially lift stay-at-home orders in regions where new cases have sharply dropped. The government's public health council chief Franco Locatelli hinted on Friday that regions south of Rome may be allowed to resume something resembling their old way of life next month. "We have prevented the spread of contagions in southern regions. This is now a fact supported by (Friday's) figures," Locatelli said. But the scale to which businesses are allowed to open across the economically vital north will be determined by the number of deaths and recoveries reported over the coming days. Italy is still digging though data from individual regions to determine the health and economic effects of its worst crisis since World War II. Previously undisclosed figures from its public health institute revealed that nearly 17 000 medics have been infected with the virus since Italy's first Covid-19 death was recorded on 21 February. Several Italian doctors have expressed fears that infected health care workers may have been unwittingly spreading the disease to their patients in the early weeks of the outbreak.

Windows 10 May 2020 Update is now officially finished and has been pushed out to Microsoft’s Release Preview ring. In other words, testers on that ring can now get hold of build 19041.207 of the May 2020 Update – as it has been officially named – which should be the final version of the upgrade that is released to consumers at some point in May (presumably – barring any major last-minute fails). Although it might come out later in May, rather than sooner, for reasons we’ll come on to momentarily. It’ll be no surprise to hear that there are no feature introductions at this point, but Microsoft has made some minor tweaks and fixes, including the solution for an issue which can stop the rear flash working on Windows 10 tablets with a rear-facing camera. Also note that those in the Release Preview ring may not get this final build delivered straight away – it’s only being automatically deployed to a small number of testers to begin with, and that rollout will then be ramped up. However, if you don’t want to wait, you can manually grab the May 2020 Update on your PC running the Windows 10 preview simply by heading to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and then clicking on Check for updates.Virtually here There is one major caveat here which Microsoft highlighted in the release notes for build 19041.207, namely that those using Windows Mixed Reality hardware may find it doesn’t work properly with the May 2020 Update (also known as 20H1) at this stage. So if you use your headset a lot – or indeed even a bit – it’s probably best to leave the build alone at this point.

After being teased just ahead of CES earlier this year, AVerMedia today launched its Live Gamer Bolt capture card. It's essentially an external version of its internal Live Gamer 4K capture card, with the same capabilities in a portable form factor. That sounds enticing, until you scroll through the specifications and see that it requires a Thunderbolt 3 port. Not all modern PCs have one. You could always buy a Thunderbolt 3 add-in card, but if you're going to occupy a PCIe slot anyway, the internal Live Gamer 4K is a cheaper option. Therein lies the other catch—the Live Gamer Bolt costs $449.99, plus the cost of a Thunderbolt 3 card, if that's something you need. In contrast, the internal Live Gamer 4K runs $229.99 on Best Buy, while Elgato's 4K60 Pro (one of the best capture cards for PC gaming) costs $329 on Amazon. Cost and compatibility aside, the Bolt is an interesting product. It's the only external capture card to support recording both 4K HDR at 60fps and 1080p at a blazing-fast 240fps. It can also capture 1440p gaming at 144fps. AVerMedia also claims an ultra-low latency pass-through with this external capture card. "The Bolt holds fast to AVerMedia’s worldwide acclaimed ultra-low latency with a preview latency of less than 50ms. Due to Intel's powerful and robust Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, the Bolt can deliver uncompressed video capture without compromise," AVerMedia says. In a addition to a Thunderbolt 3 port, the Bolt requires some substantial system specs: for a laptop, a Core i7 7700HQ or higher processor, a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU, and 8GB of RAM. For a desktop, at least a Core i5 6000 series CPU, a GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics card, and 8GB of RAM. Windows 10 is also required.

The 1990s were a great time for the Japanese automotive business. As Germany struggled with the industrial realities of reunification and American designers kept building poorly engineered vehicles, Japanese car brands dominated many segments. Amongst the strongest of these was Honda. In the mid-1990s Honda had a treasure of desirable cars: NSX, Prelude and the V-Tec engine technology which would make many of its Civics so legendary. The one thing that Honda didn’t have was a large SUV with low-range. Mindful that developing such a vehicle would be costly, and aware that its engineers had no experience with building oversized off-road vehicles, Honda did something unusual: the Crossroad. At this time of unparalleled strength for the Japanese auto industry, things were falling apart in the UK - especially at Land Rover. Honda-Rover… Strange, but true In truth the Crossroad was very little Honda, but for its badging. This was a first-generation Land Rover Discovery with all the issues that would entail in terms of reliability. What Honda managed to deliver with the Crossroad, was a three- and five-door off-road capable SUV, with some clever design details (when they worked) and a V8 petrol engine. And that engine is what made the Crossroad so novel, as it remains the only production vehicle with a Honda badge and V8 engine. Powering the Crossroad was Land Rover's amazingly inefficient 3.9-litre V8, which only made 136kW and very rarely averaged below 13-litres/100km. More than two decades later, Honda's strategy with the Crossroad remains challenging to understand. In the early 1990s, Honda had a reputation for building some of the world’s best engines. It had just finished a tremendously successful engine partnership with McLaren, winning multiple F1 titles. Its products had an incredible reputation for build quality, especially vehicle such as the Legend luxury car. Was Honda too early into luxury SUVs? One imagines that Honda had some cash in reserve and its marketing futurists could see the potential of premium SUVs. When the Crossroad launched, there was no Mercedes-Benz ML or BMW X5. A mark of Honda's foresight is that by the time its unhappy relationship with Land Rover terminated, Mercedes-Benz had launched its ML. A year later, BMW would start production of X5. Honda definitely had the right idea, but its execution was bizarre. Honda eventually discontinued its original Crossroad when the Series 2 Discovery arrived in 1998, ending one of the most peculiar product agreements in history.

The supermodel told Cindy Crawford during her new YouTube series No Filter with Naomi: "I went with Claudia [Schiffer] and Christy [Turlington]. And he was coming home from school. And we had gotten there before he had gotten home from school and Princess Diana was like, 'Okay.' So we were just like, 'What do we do?' I mean, it was so sweet." Prince William was just 13 or 14 at the time. Cindy said she also met the prince when he was a little older. "Did he blush when you met him?" Naomi asked. Cindy replied: "I don't remember, but look, I was blushing. I was so intimidated meeting Princess Diana and being at Kensington Palace, and just how completely down-to-earth she was because there's so much protocol I guess, and not being English, I don't understand some of it." The two went on to discuss Princess Diana and how "down-to-earth" and "laid back" she was. "I just loved her. Humble, how down-to-earth and I'm just blessed to know her for the time that I did," Naomi said. "I went bright red and didn't quite know what to say and sort of fumbled," he said. "I think I pretty much fell down the stairs on the way up. I was completely and utterly sort of awestruck." About his mother, William recalled: "That's lived with me forever about her loving and embarrassing and sort of, you know being — being the sort of the joker."

Amazon workers group calls for strike over virus and environmental concerns Amazon tech workers are calling for a virtual one-day strike to pressure the online retail giant over warehouse safety conditions during the coronavirus pandemic. The e-commerce colossus is believed to have had Covid-19 cases in a number of its warehouses and has seen employee protests and walkouts in several of them to press for safety improvements. The workers group, Amazon Employees for Climate Justice, called on colleagues to call in sick on 24 April, accusing the company of firing workers protesting a lack of coronavirus safety precautions and environmental issues. AFP Duterte threatens 'martial law' crackdown Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has threatened to order the military and police to take control of the country's capital if people do not start obeying a virus lockdown. "The military and police will enforce social distancing at curfew... It's like martial law. You choose," he said. As reported cases of the new coronavirus started to climb in March, Duterte ordered a quarantine of the main northern island of Luzon, which includes Manila's 12 million people. The Philippines has detected about 5 660 coronavirus cases and recorded 362 deaths, but those figures are expected to climb as the nation ramps up testing. Trump was too slow in virus response: poll Nearly two-thirds of Americans say President Donald Trump was too slow in taking major steps to address the threat to the United States from new coronavirus, a poll published on Thursday said. According to the Pew Research Centre, 65% said Trump was tardy in responding when cases of the Covid-19 illness were first reported in other countries. He initially downplayed the virus and has been keen to end the resulting lockdowns which have crippled the world's largest economy. The Pew survey was conducted 7-12 April among a sample 4 917 American adults. Norway launches virus tracker app Norway, one of the first European countries to begin lifting confinement measures, is launching a smartphone tracking and tracing app to try to halt a return of the deadly coronavirus. The "Smittestop" or "stop infection" app has been developed in the Nordic country to provide health authorities a better picture of the spread of Covid-19 and tell users if they have been in contact with the disease. Use of the app is not mandatory and is free. Users will be notified if were in close proximity to (less than two metres) someone infected with the coronavirus for more than 15 minutes, but does identify that person.

Microsoft Teams is getting another significant update soon to support even more users per call. Responding to soaring user numbers across the globe as the coronavirus lockdown forces workers towards remote working, Microsoft Teams will soon support up to nine people on one screen at once. Previously, users could only see four participants at any one time, meaning even greater collaboration between work or education teams.Upgrade Announced by the Microsoft Teams Twitter account, the feature will be released before the end of April, and is one of several being released ahead of schedule as Microsoft looks to help users across the world benefit from better service. Users will soon get the opportunity to contact the right person within their organisation using tags, allowing access to co-workers with specific skills, experience or roles. Microsoft says this could allow tagging of specific teams or departments within a business so as not to spam the whole organisation with queries such as customer support. The update brings Microsoft Teams closer to its competitors, who have leapt ahead in terms of supporting large numbers of users on screen at any time. Zoom, which has rapidly become the service of choice for many, allows up to 49 users at any time on screen, with both WebEx and Google Hangouts supporting up to 25.

There’s no stopping AMD Ryzen 4000 from demolishing Intel. With Team Red already sitting on top of the CPU world, selling 40% more processors than its rival, these big flagships are going for the knockout, with the Ryzen 4000 processors for laptops already nearly as fast as their desktop counterparts. After giving us a sneak peek at sneak peek at AMD Ryzen 4000 processors for laptops at CES 2020, these mobile processors are already out, delivering hugely improved performance across the board. As evidenced by the compelling Asus Zephyrus G14, they’re delivering desktop-class performance in a lightweight laptop, changing the gaming laptop scene forever. It doesn’t stop there – AMD may also be preparing to add a new flagship APU, Ryzen 9 4900U, to the lineup. Of course, laptops aren't the entire scene. We've heard plenty of whispers about the AMD Zen 3-equipped Ryzen 4000 processors for desktops, which could be coming in October. And, these will be based on a 7nm+ manufacturing process. That means that they could potentially push clock speeds high enough to really make Intel hurt, especially if Team Blue stays stuck at 14nm on desktop. There's already so much information and gossip out there about the next generation of Ryzen for laptops and desktops. So we gathered all the most important bits right here in this article to help you stay ahead of the Ryzen 4000 curve. We'll also make sure to keep this article updated with all the latest news, so be sure to bookmark us so you can stay on top of it. We'll probably see Ryzen 3 laptops starting around the $600 mark, with laptops rocking the Ryzen 7 4800H or 4800U hitting the premium market above $1,000. However, we can be a bit more specific with our speculation on the desktop lineup. AMD Ryzen 3rd Generation saw higher prices than Ryzen 2000, largely due to the introduction of Ryzen 9 processors with up to 16 cores. However, the Ryzen 7 3700X did launch at the same $329 (£319, AU$519) price point as the Ryzen 7 2700X that came before it. Due to the success of chips like the Ryzen 9 3900X and 3950X, however, we fully expect AMD to follow suit with the Ryzen 4000 lineup. For reference, we included the pricing of AMD Ryzen 3000 processors below. We expect the pricing to stay roughly the same for the next generation. AMD Ryzen 9 3950X: $749 (about £590, AU$1,080) AMD Ryzen 9 3900X: $499 (about £390, AU$720) AMD Ryzen 7 3800X: $399 (about £310, AU$580) AMD Ryzen 7 3700X: $329 (about £260, AU$480) AMD Ryzen 5 3600X: $249 (about £200, AU$360) AMD Ryzen 5 3600: $199 (about £160, AU$290) AMD Ryzen 5 3400G: $149 (£139, AU$240) AMD Ryzen 3 3300G: $99 (£94, AU$144)

In line with trends around the world, SA has an ever-growing SUV market. SUV's just makes more sense for many South Africans. Reasons for acquiring a SUV range from extra seating capacity (with some SUVs offering seven seats), safety, additional cargo capacity, off-roading (even though many don't really use it for that purpose), and often impressive styling. But with a struggling economy (and our worrying state of politics) people are looking for options that make greater economic sense. Even the German SUV buying types are looking for the usual features they expect from a Mercedes but in a smaller vehicle. And dare I say, cheaper. This means that those that may have previously opted for the larger, more luxurious GLE are now looking at the GLC. Taking into account my introductory rant above, this makes sense. The GLC features in a competitive price sector, and the new facelifte Styling, inside and outside The GLC has the new MBUX infotainment system – this is a step ahead of other vehicles as this system digests the owner's habits. And pairing you're your smartphone is super easy. Enhanced digitisation is the direction being taken, and Mercedes falls in line. While there aren't significant changes from the previous iteration, there are notable improvements. Advanced voice control and even gesture control add to controlling the system via touch screen. Touch screen is perhaps dated for this vehicle. There are also digital improvements to the navigation system with clear images of the surroundings. Critical change - new engines The 2.0-litres are a thing of the past, and the GLCs now have new four-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. A fair segment of the market prefers petrol. Here the option is a GLC300 with 190kW and 370Nm. With more and more people choosing diesel, Mercedes has done well to offer the GLC 220d with 143 and 400Nm, and a GLC 300d with 180kW and 500Nm. For those wanting to live on the edge, the AMG offers the GLC 43 with 287kW and 375kW. The over-the-top GLC 63 is expected later. As has come to be expected from Mercedes engineering of this stature, the 4Matic system translates into all-wheel drive traction. Pricing and speed While one won't necessarily buy the GLC for speed, the GLC300d is impressive. Zero to 100km/h is claimed at 6.5 seconds. Pricing below is for the non-AMG models, only; Mercedes-Benz GLC GLC 220d 4Matic diesel R817 080 GLC 300d 4Matic diesel R857 230 GLC 300 4Matic petrol R879 200 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe GLC 220d 4Matic diesel R951 080 GLC 300d 4Matic diesel R986 560 GLC 300 4Matic petrol R1 010 200

The US Justice Department announced Tuesday it had sent $300 million in funds stolen in the 1MDB corruption scandal to the Malaysia government that had been laundered through the global financial system. Combined with other funds handed over nearly one year ago, the Justice Department said it has now returned or helped Malaysia recover more than $1 billion in funds and assets lost in the scam. "The repatriation of these stolen funds to the citizens of Malaysia is the result of the tireless efforts of prosecutors and federal agents to prevent foreign kleptocrats and their associates from using the United States as a playground where they can enjoy the fruits of their pilfered wealth," said US Attorney Nick Hanna in a statement. "The amount of money stolen from the people of Malaysia is staggering, and we have been relentless in recovering assets that always should have been used for their benefit." The money was a part of the more than $4.5 billion that US investigators say was looted from the state-owned investment firm, with alleged help from Malaysian ex-prime minister Najib Razak and his inner circle.
