  1. A Madrid court has re-opened a case into alleged irregularities regarding the transfer of Neymar to Barcelona from Brazilian club Santos. The announcement on Friday came less than three months after National Court judge Jose de la Mata shelved the complaint. The complaint was brought by Brazilian investment group DIS against Brazil international Neymar, his father, former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell and former Santos president Odilio Rodrigues. Prosecutors appealed Mata's decision and judge Angela Murillo Bordallo has ruled that there is still enough evidence to keep the case alive. The Brazilian investment group was entitled to 40 percent of Neymar's transfer from Santos in 2013, but claimed it received a smaller compensation than it should have because part of the transfer fee was concealed. Neymar and the other parties being accused by prosecutors have denied wrongdoing.
  2. Chevrolet's compact crossover drops 400 pounds too The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox will be shorter and lighter than the model it replaces and will be the first compact crossover offered in the U.S. with a diesel engine, General Motors said late Thursday. The redesigned Equinox will be 400 pounds lighter than the outgoing model, which is GM’s second most po[CENSORED]r U.S. vehicle. It will also be 4 inches shorter while adding 3.5 cubic feet of interior space when it reaches North American dealerships in the first quarter of next year. The crossover gains numerous active safety features, fold-flat rear seats and a 10 percent tighter turning radius, GM said. “It is an all-new SUV from the ground up and one that takes on the industry’s biggest competitors with a stronger architecture, greater efficiency and more technology,” Rick Spina, the vehicle’s executive chief engineer, said in a statement.

  4. The Spain international has spent his entire career with the Catalan giants, winning four Champions League trophies and eight La Liga titles, and has stated his intention to finish his career at the club. However, despite midfield team-mate Sergio Busquets signing a new five-year deal at the Nou Camp on Thursday, 32-year-old Iniesta is yet to be offered an extension beyond his current contract, which expires in 2018. Iniesta played under Guardiola for four years at Barcelona and was a key member of his treble-winning side in 2009, but the Manchester City boss would not be able to tempt him into a move to the Etihad Stadium, unless he cannot fulfil his plans to stay at the La Liga champions. "Guardiola knows what I think, what I want, and my desire is ending my career here, like I've said many times," Iniesta told Spanish radio station COPE. "I'm very clear about what I say and what I think, everybody knows it. "I would love to end my career at Barcelona. I have a contract until 2018. We will have to ask the directors whether they want to extend my contract. "But I can only repeat that I want to retire at Barcelona."
  5. Despite years of negligible U.S. sales, the Lotus name still resonates with car fans. Trace the residual fondness back, and one seminal moment jumps out: Scotsman Jim Clark winning the 1965 Indianapolis 500 in a Lotus 38, marking the speedway’s first mid-engined victory. Channeling your inner Clark has been tough recently, though: Lotus hadn’t imported to the States since 2014 because its Evora S no longer met federal crash standards. Now it’s back with the fully federalized Evora 400. Not just safer in a crash thanks to side airbags, the 400 promises to be a better driver, too. To see if it lives up to that promise, we’re taking the Evora 400 from Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Indianapolis, where we’ll watch Indy winner and Clark fan Dario Franchitti drive Clark’s Lotus 38. Road trips don’t end better. The 400’s revised specs represent a sizable jump over the Evora S. A new Edelbrock supercharger—the S was always supercharged—and intercooler boost the Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter V6 55 hp to 400 hp. There’s a limited-slip differential, a suspension upgrade and bigger brakes. The 400 is 92 pounds lighter, thanks to forged wheels, new seats, lighter doors and Colin Chapman’s ghost throwing away things that didn’t do anything. It’s surprisingly civilized on-road. The sills are narrower and lower for easier access, supple suspension smothers most flaws in the road and you feel fresh after hours driving. The transformation from the S is obvious. Where shifting gears once felt like fighting a wooden spoon from a crammed dishwasher, the 400’s linkage is slick with mechanical precision. The engine no longer gasps breathlessly toward the redline and plays a snake-charmer’s tune to neck hairs.

  8. Defending La Liga champions Barcelona hosted Ateltico Madrid in the league on Wednesday night and it turned out to be another classic encounter between these two spanish giants. Barcelona dominated with massive possession and it took best part of 45 minutes to open the scoring thanks to Ivan Rakitic goal in 41st minute. Atletico however bounced back with a superb goal of their own thanks to Angel Correa after the half time to make thins interesting. 41′ 1 – 0 Ivan Rakitic scored just before the break to put Barcelona 1-0 in lead. 61′ 1 – 1 Angel Correa scores 15 minutes into the second half as Ateltico found a way back into the game. Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid Preview: Barcelona has bounced back from that surprise 2-1 defeat against Alaves in prime fashion having scored 12 goals in two matches. Trio of Messi, Neymar and Suarez has been finding the net regularly and they will be confident of a better showing against Atletico who knocked them out from the Champions League last season. Atletico themselves has turned things around after their two back to back draws in the opening two games and now they are a on a three game winning streak but only conceded 1 goal so far.
  9. Ahead of October's Paris motor show, Citroen revealed a digital version of its C3 WRC rally car. The C3 WRC replaces Citroen's DS3 WRC from the French automaker's recent years of rallying; this past season, Citroen sat out WRC competition in order to focus on developing the car seen in the video. Due to some slight rule changes in WRC for the 2017 season, teams are allowed significantly more power, a more aggressive aero package and a 55-pound lower minimum weight. Power is up from 300 hp to 380 hp, which the Citroen’s turbocharged 1.6-liter will happily churn out. Will it be enough to shove Sebastien Ogier’s dominant Volkswagen Polo R out of the winner's circle? We won't know how much the rule changes will shake everything up until the start of the season. Citroen plans to lift the cover off of its new car at the Paris show but teased its release with this strange night-vision-esque digital short. The rendered C3 WRC rips around the computer-generated rally stage, complete with engine noise, fans cheering and a strange song playing underneath it all. Sure, Nissan might take the cake when it comes to strangely cut auto show teasers, but this Citroen video is easily one of the weirdest rally-related teasers ever, even if it doesn't temper how we feel about Citroen's hopes during the 2017 WRC season.

  12. Dimitri Seluk says Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola should be saying sorry himself rather than demanding an apology from Yaya Toure. Toure has been told he will not play for City again unless Guardiola gets an apology for Seluk's criticism of his decision to omit the player from City's Champions League squad. But that apology will not come from Seluk, who has accused Guardiola of behaving like "a king" on the back of eight straight wins at the start of his City career. Pep Guardiola said Toure will not play for City again unless the club and the players get an apology from agent Dimitri Seluk And Toure's agent has gone further, telling Sky Sports News HQ it is the City boss who ought to say sorry - to predecessor Manuel Pellegrini and axed England goalkeeper Joe Hart. "What do I need to apologise for?" he said. "Guardiola wins a few games and he thinks he is king. I live in Europe so I can say whatever I like and Guardiola can't stop me.

  13. Judged purely on its EV-ness, I think this Kia does everything it needs to very well. But at nearly $40,000, it just seems like a lot of coin. We’ll get back to that in a second. This Soul is rated at about 90 miles on a full charge, plenty for my daily commute and then some. I drove it home the first night with an indicated 87 miles of range; my commute is about 17 miles and dang it if I wasn't exactly at 70 miles range when I pulled up to my door. And that was with the AC cranking. In the morning (I think I lost like two miles overnight), I kept it in B -- battery charge mode, which ups the aggression of the regenerative brakes -- and I only used 12 miles of battery to cover 17 in the real world. So kudos for that, Kia. B-mode does a good job of slowing the car down too -- if you plan ahead a bit, you barely have to use the brakes thanks to the strong regen. The Soul EV isn't particularly slow, and I could stay at 80 mph on the freeway all day long -- well, at least until the battery ran out. I did enjoy getting into the red zone of the speedo, which is about 87 mph. I’m guessing your range goes down precipitously after that. The base Kia Soul weighs about 2,800 pounds, and this electric model has about 500 extra pounds of heft to move around. It stays relatively flat in corners, and steering weight and feel are better than I expected. While I dodged most potholes, I did hit a few, and there wasn’t very much noise in the cabin.
  14. Thibaut Courtois wants to return to La Liga one day and intends to make a decision on his Chelsea future when he enters the final year of his contract in the summer of 2018. The Belgium international spent three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid before he replaced Petr Cech as Chelsea's No 1. He won a La Liga title in Spain and helped Atletico to the 2013/14 Champions League final, and admitted he retains a strong connection with the club. "I feel half Spanish," Courtois told Spanish newspaper Marca. "When I said goodbye I had a bad time. It was not easy and I cried. "Atletico is a family club. I still feel their love." Watch highlights from last weekend's La Liga matches And when asked if he plans to return to the country one day, Courtois added: "Yes, but not only because of the club, but how Madrid is and the whole country. "From the first minute I fell in love with Spain for its people, lifestyle and food. I still maintain eating dinner and then an afternoon nap, most of the TV I watch is Spanish." Courtois, who joined Chelsea from Belgian side Genk in 2011, is under contract at the Premier League club until the end of the 2018/19 campaign. "I have a contract at Chelsea for three seasons," he continued. "In 2018, when I enter the final year of the contract, we will assess whether to renew or leave."
  15. The very last Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution hammered away at an online auction for a winning bid of $76,400. As with the first Final Edition Lancer Evo, the proceeds will be donated to charity. However, unlike the previous $46,200 donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, this last Final Edition’s auction money will go towards two food banks -- Feeding America Riverside / San Bernardino and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. Mitsubishi built just 1,600 of these Lancer Evo Final Edition models. Powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4, the Lancer Evo sent 303 hp and 305 lb-ft of twist through a five-speed manual transmission to all four of the Yokohama-wrapped Enkei wheels. The special-edition Evos were tuned more aggressively than the run-of-the-mill Lancer Evos, which were rated at 291 hp and 300 lb-ft (and are gone, too). Over 10 generations, three of which actually came to the United States, the Lancer Evo has become a staple at rally stages, drag strips and road courses alike. While we’re sad to see the Lancer Evo fade away, we are curious what Mitsubishi will build to try to fill the void -- if anything.
  16. Joey Barton has been suspended by Rangers for three weeks after meeting with manager Mark Warburton on Monday morning. The 34-year-old was banished from the club following a row with team-mate Andy Halliday and Warburton in the wake of their 5-1 Scottish Premiership defeat to Celtic on September 10 and the Gers have now announced he will not return to Ibrox or their training centre at Auchenhowie for three weeks. Barton met with the Rangers boss and board members on Monday morning, with the midfielder saying he could not comment on it as he left Ibrox but, when asked if he was still a Rangers player by Sky Sports News HQ, he responded: "I think so." A club statement said: "Joey Barton has today been suspended by the club and will not return to Ibrox or Auchenhowie for a period of three weeks. "The manager, Mark Warburton, and club believe that time and space is required for both the club and the player to assess all that has happened.
  17. An old Korean proverb about jumping frogs is suddenly finding fresh currency in the executive suites and engineering labs of Hyundai Motor Co. After pressing pause on years of breakneck expansion to nail quality, restock the product pipeline and streamline production, Hyundai is on the offensive again. Internally, the company’s engineers and executives liken it to an old Korean saying: “Even a frog must rest before the next jump.” And Hyundai’s next leap may be its biggest yet. The restd-and-ready company is simultaneously jumping into three new areas: a full range of eco-cars, from hybrids to EVs to fuel cells; a new subbrand of performance vehicles; and the new Genesis luxury marque nearly built from scratch. The executives leading these initiatives, in interviews with Automotive News, describe today’s Hyundai Motor Group as a mature, waking giant that used its downtime to regroup and is poised to build on its rank as the world’s No. 5 automaker. “Every organization needs a break before it goes for another jump,” said Ahn Byung-ki, director of eco-vehicle development. “A lot of people inside feel that way. I’m ready for the next jump.” The trifecta bet underscores the outsized ambition of a company that traces its roots to just 1967, has scant racing heritage and only developed its first proprietary engine in 1991. Indeed, the stakes are high for the entire auto group, including Hyundai and Kia, as the new ventures devour valuable resources at a time when Hyundai Motor is sliding into a fourth year of falling profits. The transformation also adds strain as speculation swirls about the transfer of corporate control from Chung Mong-koo, the Hyundai-Kia group’s 78-year-old patriarch and chairman, to his 45-year-old son, Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun. Sagging profits are a reason to push into more profitable segments, but also a limitation. Operating income dropped 1.5 percent in 2013, 9.2 percent in 2014, 16 percent in 2015 and was down 7 percent through the first half of this year.
