Vice-presidential candidate Mike Pence has said new evidence will emerge on Friday that will undermine the sexual accusations against Donald Trump. The Republican said the "Clinton political machine" was using slander and lies to deflect from real issues. Several women have accused Mr Trump of groping them or kissing them forcibly, which he has strongly denied. First Lady Michelle Obama said some of Mr Trump's boasts about women were "shocking and demeaning". And she said the language he has used was that of a sexual predator. On Friday, her husband, President Barack Obama said America was a better place than Trump's remarks about women, minorities and other group suggested it was. Mr Trump was heard bragging on tape that he could force himself on women because he was a star.

Barcelona have announced that Javier Mascherano will sign a contract extension on Monday. It was confirmed earlier in the summer that Mascherano would be staying at the Nou Camp amid reported interest from Juventus. And he will now put pen to paper on a new three-year deal that will keep him with Barcelona until 2019. A short statement from the Catalan club read: "FC Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano, long a key element in the team's unprecedented run of success, will have his contract extended for two more seasons beyond the one currently underway. The signing is set to take place on Monday, 17 October at 1.00pm CET at the club's offices."

As far as the Big Three go, Ford has been back-of-the-pack in exhaust sound for years. The Challenger/Charger siblings scream like NASCAR Cup racers at full tilt; the Camaro and Corvette are nearly as good. The Ford Mustang, on the other hand, has been sorely lacking in the aural enjoyment category for at least a generation, excepting the last Boss 302 special. That may have ended with the vicious-sounding Shelby GT350 and its 5.2-liter flat-plane crank V8, though we haven't heard the ZL1 wide open until now. Which one sounds better? You be the judge, and let us know in the comments.

Arsene Wenger has warned Barcelona that Arsenal will fight to keep standout right-back Hector Bellerin. Spain international Bellerin, who left Barcelona for north London as a 16-year-old, has been reportedly linked with a return to the Nou Camp by the Spanish press. Barcelona vice-president Jordi Mestre was quoted last month describing the 21-year-old as a "great player", but Wenger is adamant Bellerin's future lies at Arsenal. "He has nearly three years to go, we always try to get the players to the [financial] level where we think they deserve to be," Wenger said. "We will try to extend his contract, his long-term future is here. "He has been absolutely fantastic. His first game was a nightmare. The season before he was at Watford where he didn't play. His progress has been brilliant because he has absolutely top mental strength."

Porsche would go on to take the overall win at Le Mans 18 times, with many more class victories as the years went on, truly one of the greatest dynasties in motorsports history. But it all started with little car No. 46, a Gmund Porsche with ungainly wheel spats, three windshield wipers and about 46 hp. It wasn’t a particularly attractive car, at least not compared to the powerfully beautiful 550s, 911s, 906s, 910s, 908s, 917s, 956s and 962s that would come later. But it was the first, and therefore it's historically significant. The question for many years was, where did it go? “The history had been unknown as to which car was the winning car at Le Mans,” said Porsche restoration specialist Rod Emory. “And so after the cars came to the States … this particular car ... I’ll just start from the beginning.” Yes, back in 1948-49, Porsche was building the earliest of 356s, called Gmund Porsches after the town in Austria where they were being hammered together. They might have made 50 of those cars and things were looking good for the tiny sports-car maker. They had just moved the operation back to Stuttgart when … “… in 1950 Porsche was at the Paris auto show and they were asked by the organizers of the 24 hours of Le Mans to show up at the 1951 race with an entry in the 1,100cc class,” said Emory, who, 66 years later, would find himself centrally involved in that venture. Engineers took four of the Gmund SL bodies left over from the Austrian werks and started testing them to see what parts and tweaks might work as a race car. They put louvered quarter windows in the cars, fender skirts on the fenders and flat bottoms underneath to increase the aerodynamic efficiency; they added a special 1,100cc engine and lightened them up as much as possible, installing special fuel tanks with the gas filler poking through the hood. One of those four test-race cars crashed during that development period. Of the three remaining, they brought the two best cars to Le Mans with Nos. 46 and 47 painted on them. No. 47 crashed in practice, which left them with just one car for the 24-hour race, No. 46.

Per Mertesacker has discussed the possibility of rejoining Werder Bremen, according to the German club's captain. Mertesacker remains Arsenal's skipper but is out of contract next summer and yet to play this season because of a serious knee injury. Officials from Bremen and Hannover, another of Mertesacker's former club, have publicly declared an interest in bringing the centre-half back home next season. And current Bremen skipper Clemens Fritz told Bild: "We've talked about it [a return to Bremen]. It would be a good thing for the club." Mertesacker this month said he would consider his future from January, when he will be free to discuss pre-contract terms with club on the continent. The World Cup winner has seen Arsenal sign £35m compatriot Shkodran Mustafi since his pre-season injury, but he told Kicker magazine: "I believe that I can reach a level again on which I am important for the team. I have the feeling that this is not the end. "The more time I allow my knee, the longer I'll be able to play football. I can increase the workload already and I am no longer in pain."

1,900 units of the new Lincoln flagship need repair Ford is recalling nearly 1,900 2017 Lincoln Continentals in the U.S. and Canada for possible defective headlamp assemblies. The vehicles went on sale in the U.S. last month, with 775 sold in September. Ford’s recall covers 1,826 vehicles in the U.S. and 49 in Canada built between June 14 and Sept. 23. Ford said the lights may have been built without the proper lenses to meet federal requirements for turn signal visibility. The vehicles will be inspected at dealerships and defective assemblies will be replaced. Ford is also recalling about 60 2015 and 2016 Ford Edge crossovers in the U.S., Canada and Mexico to fix antilock braking system software. Ford said it is unaware of any accidents or injuries associated with either problem.

The Grand Palais in Paris was transformed into a Chanel data centre, with models strutting in front of wall-to-wall silver computer hardware and electrical wires. They were dressed in helmets that were part Stormtrooper, part Daft Punk, teamed with knee-length skirts and blazers from the label’s spring/summer ‘17 collection, paired with Star Wars-esque knee-high boots.

Moussa Sissoko has expressed frustration that his move from Newcastle to Tottenham was not completed earlier in the transfer window. The France international looked set to join Everton on Deadline Day before signing for Spurs in a deal worth £30m. Moussa Sissoko in action for Tottenham Moussa Sissoko has expressed frustration that his move from Newcastle to Tottenham was not completed earlier in the transfer window. The France international looked set to join Everton on Deadline Day before signing for Spurs in a deal worth £30m. The move was confirmed once the deadline had passed and Sissoko says the situation left him "mentally drained". "I went on holiday and everyone knew that I wanted to leave Newcastle and go to a bigger club that was in the Champions League and at the top of the table," he told FIFA.com. "I signed for Tottenham, thank God. I'd been in discussions with them for quite a while and everything was eventually sorted out in the final hours. "I would have liked it to have gone through earlier. I managed to have a bit of a break, but it left me mentally drained. Oops! Remember you need to log in using your Sky iD to watch Premier League video Watch highlights of Spurs' win over Man City "I would have liked to have started the season with the team because that makes it easier to settle in. Arriving at the end of the transfer window is not the same, though I got a really good welcome and everything went well." While the midfielder is now challenging with Spurs towards the top of the Premier League, Newcastle are competing for promotion back into the top-flight following their relegation to the Sky Bet Championship. Sissoko admits last season with the Magpies was "complicated" and accepts any criticism that has come his way.

Our fourth favorite Brit -- just kidding Chris, you're great -- took the new, hardcore Porsche 911R and the latest Aston Martin V12 Vantage S for a stroll on the street and track in a comparo for the "Top Gear" YouTube channel. Both feature manual transmissions and both are at home on either surface. We've driven them -- check out our reviews here and here -- but Mr. Harris, as usual, has his own interesting take. Expect beautiful roads; slow-motion, smoky drifts; and everything in between. As a quick primer, the Porsche 911R only comes with a manual -- hence its hardcore-ness -- and hides a 500-hp, 4.0-liter Boxer engine underhood, while the Vantage gets a more-powerful V12 making 563 hp and 457 lb-ft. The Vantage weighs more too, so the Porsche should technically feel faster. Chris, bring us on home.

More senior Republicans have withdrawn support for US presidential candidate Donald Trump after his obscene remarks about women became public. At least a dozen Republicans have said they will not be voting for him, since the comments emerged on Friday. Mr Trump says he will never drop out of the race to be president and will never let his supporters down. He has been under pressure after a tape from 2005 of him bragging about groping and kissing women was broadcast. http://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/624/cpsprodpb/97D9/production/_91737883_1e501a0b-c914-4ebe-9680-41729d708b91.jpg The latest to withdraw their support are former Republican presidential candidate John McCain and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Mr McCain said Mr Trump's comments "make it impossible to continue to offer even conditional support for his candidacy", while Ms Rice said: "Enough! Donald Trump should not be President. He should withdraw." New Hampshire Senator Kelly Ayotte said in a statement: "I cannot and will not support a candidate for president who brags about degrading and assaulting women," she said Ms Ayotte - who faces a competitive race for re-election - said she would not vote for Mrs Clinton but instead would "write in" Mike Pence, Mr Trump's vice-presidential running mate, on her ballot paper.

New York Red Bulls have ruled out making a move for Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger. Schweinsteiger has yet to make an appearance for United under new manager Jose Mourinho this season and MLS commissioner Don Garber has said the American league would welcome the arrival of the former Germany captain. The 32-year-old's contract at Old Trafford expires in June 2018 and he has said United will be his "last club in Europe", but it appears the Red Bulls will not be his next destination. "Bastian Schweinsteiger is a great player with a great career. But there have been no conversations, he isn't and will not be a topic for us," Red Bulls' Oliver Mintzlaff told German daily Bild. Other MLS teams are still likely to be interested in signing the ex-Bayern Munich star, with FC Dallas president Dan Hunt recently declaring his admiration for the midfielder. Garber said earlier this week: "We would receive Bastian with open arms. He would be a leader for many of our young players. Schweinsteiger recently ended his Germany career "Of course, we're following exactly what happened with Bastian."

Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond's Amazon Prime series finally has a trailer. Dubbed "The Grand Tour," the show looks to have picked up where the former "Top Gear" team left off -- doing wacky stunts in some of the most expensive cars in the world. The new series ditched the central studio concept, with the crew instead turning a massive roaming tent into its home base. Even though the trailer only gives a glimpse at the new show, it looks like it’s going to be a hit. What we do see is the holy trinity of supercars -- the Porsche 918, McLaren P1 and LaFerrari -- finally ripping around a racetrack together. Of course, it looks like the gang is still doing wacky challenges in cars unfit for extreme terrain. "The Grand Tour" will debut Nov. 18, and Amazon will release an episode every Friday for the following 12 weeks, which is bad news for binge watchers. For those who spent big bucks on an ultra-HD 4K TV, you’ll get to see the highest-definition version of the superbly shot show.

THEY earn more than $25 million, they all live in multi-million dollar houses and while under the microscope of a parliamentary inquiry at least one publicly denied that Australia has a housing affordability problem. They are the CEOs of Australia’s big four banks and the sober suited men who control homebuyers’ interest rates have not skimped when it comes to the properties they purchase and live in with their families. With salaries ranging between $5.5m and $8.3m, monthly mortgage repayments that cripple many families are not a problem. Andrew Thorburn, the outspoken National Australia Bank boss, lives in a $3.235 mansion he bought in the elite Melbourne suburb of South Yarra two years ago. Mr Thorburn told the Federal parliamentary inquiry into the banking sector this week that the NAB did not think housing prices were out of most people’s reach. http://cdn.newsapi.com.au/image/v1/9d15b79fe90478aac1dd3726bdbeb314 http://cdn.newsapi.com.au/image/v1/5f3cb1becf541dee03291ecf2f54fc82

"Russia, and the regime, owe the world more than an explanation about why they keep hitting hospitals and medical facilities and children," he said. "These are acts that beg for an appropriate investigation of war crimes." Moscow has repeatedly denied attacking civilians, and said it targets terrorist groups in Syria. Mr Kerry, however, said Russian and Syrian government attacks on hospitals were "beyond the accidental" and part of a deliberate strategy in war-torn Syria. "This is a targeted strategy to terrorise civilians and to kill anybody and everybody who is in the way of their military objectives," he said.

The 23-year-old striker who has scored six goals in seven league appearances this season, Icardi joined Inter in 2013 from Serie A rival Sampdoria and was named captain two years later at the age of 22. Icardi was linked with a move away from the San Siro during the close season with reports suggesting that several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea, were vying for the Argentine's signature. But his new contract reportedly has a buyout clause of €110m, which can only be activated by non-Italian clubs, and the striker will earn €5.5m euros per season. Inter, who are ninth in the Serie A standings after a 2-1 loss to AS Roma on Sunday, host Cagliari on October 16 after the international break.

AMG knows some of their customers prefer to travel (intentionally) sideways, and amid a product blitz the in-house Mercedes tuner plans to throw a bone to the donut crowd. Autocar reports the next-generation AMG E63 will feature a drift mode allowing its 603 horses to go sideways when the model lands at dealerships in 2017. "It is four-wheel drive, and we’re going to have a drift mode," AMG chairman Tobias Moers told Autocar at the Paris auto show. How will that work? The E63 won't be spinning all four wheels (entertaining as that would be) but it will be able to send 100 percent of the power to the rear wheels when the situation requires it, such as in an empty parking lot after hours.

Paddy McNair says Jose Mourinho only wanted him to leave Manchester United on loan, but he asked for a permanent switch. The Northern Ireland defender joined Sunderland from United in the summer along with Donald Love in a combined £5.5m deal, with both 21-year-olds penning four-year deals at the Stadium of Light. McNair has since made five Premier League appearances for the Black Cats, also scoring both goals in the 2-1 win over QPR in the EFL Cup, and the youngster insists it was at his request that he left Old Trafford for good. Highlights of Sunderland's 2-1 win away to QPR in the third round of the EFL Cup. "For me I just wanted to play more and play more first-team games and stay in the Premier League," McNair told Sky Sports News HQ. "I spoke with a few Championship clubs and a few in the Premier League but when I spoke to David Moyes I wanted to go.

The compact 2017 Subaru Crosstrek will officially start at $22,570, including destination, when it hits dealerships. That’s only $125 more than last year’s model, which was among our favorite mini-crossovers. The latest all-wheel driver from Subaru gets a new Premium Special Edition trim for 2017 but continues with a continuously variable transmission across the lineup, except for the base model, which gets a five-speed manual. The Crosstrek gets the most love for its 8.7-inch ground clearance and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive as standard equipment. A naturally aspirated 2.0-liter flat-four is still the only engine choice, making 148 hp at 6,200 rpm and 145 lb-ft at 4,200 rpm. All get up to 33 mpg on the highway. Standard features on the base model include a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, Bluetooth, power windows/locks/mirrors, multi-function display with fuel-economy information, security system with engine immobilizer, illuminated front console storage tray, outside temperature gauge, carpeted floor mats and 17-inch alloy wheels. The Premium trim adds the All-Weather Package, which includes heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors and windshield wiper de-icer. It also comes with body-color exterior mirrors, upgraded interior bits and an upgraded sound system.
