  2. HP's Chromebook 13 aims at the corporate user, with beauty and power to spare. It's the first Chromebook with a 3200x1800 QHD+ display and a Core m processor. All other Chromebooks should be worried,... The HP Chromebook 13 I’m reviewing just got a big compliment: “If HP doesn’t want that back when you’re done, let me know.” That came from one of my coworkers, who uses a MacBook Pro. He admitted he was lured by the Chromebook 13’s slender profile and brushed-aluminum sheen. No doubt about it, HP made a beautiful-looking laptop that no one will mind showing off. The Chromebook 13 also very powerful, however, and that helps it outshine the similarly priced Dell Chromebook 13 in speed as well as looks. The Acer Chromebook 14 looks similar and costs a lot less, but it can’t match the HP Chromebook 13’s performance.
  3. Next year we’ll likely see Intel likely introduce at least two high-end chips. The first is an unexpected surprise—you know, like your baby sister or brother. Code-named Kaby Lake, it’s born mostly out of necessity. Intel’s pattern the last few years has been to build two CPUs per process technology before moving on. For example, Intel built its Ivy Bridge and Haswell chips on a 22nm process. But with confidence problems in its 10nm process, Intel will do three on the 14nm process: Broadwell, Skylake, and Kaby Lake. Rumors indicate Kaby Lake will have more USB ports, more PCIe lanes, and even support for next-generation Intel Optane storage. It's too early to have more solid information, but we do have Intel’s official confirmation that it will make Kaby Lake. You can also chalk rumors of Broadwell-E in the iffy column, but this one is very predictable. In fact, Intel has repeated this same pattern three times now with Sandy Bridge-E, Ivy Bridge-E and Haswell-E. The formula is to take the company’s Xeon chips, switch off a couple of features, and sell them to consumers who just want more cores. The question isn’t if Broadwell-E is coming next year, but how many cores Intel will put in the CPUs. Rumors indicate Intel is mulling offering a 10-core version. That may sound like it’s too good to be true, but there is precedence. With Haswell-E in 2014, Intel sold its first consumer 8-core chip and even offered a 6-core version at a surprisingly reasonable price. Intel could do the same with a 10-core Broadwell-E, especially if the company is fearful of real competition from AMD’s Zen. Intel’s generational performance gains have been fairly unremarkable, so the boost simply from having two more cores would be welcome. The only thing that could throw this all for a loop are reports that Intel is planning to introduce Skylake-E next year, which would mean it's scrubbing Broadwell-E. That makes no sense to us, but that’s the problem with rumors.
  4. Nearly two months back, smack-dab in the midst of E3, AMD CEO Lisa Su took the stage at the PC gaming Show and introduced the Radeon RX 460 and Radeon RX 470 graphics cards to the world—the final two members of the 14nm Polaris GPU family. The latter targets “refined, power-efficient” 1080p gaming, while the former was built for superb e-sports performance, she said. But that was it. Since then, there’s been only silence, leaving Radeon enthusiasts rabid for more details. Today, you get them. Even better: Both cards will hit the streets in the very near future. But first, the bad news: AMD isn’t disclosing pricing information for either card just yet, though they’ll cost less than the $200 RX 480 as AMD continues its “graphics for the masses” push.
  5. McLaren posted record sales in 2015 and expects to double those sales for 2016. As a result of the booming supercar business, McLaren also plans to launch 15 all-new cars or derivatives of already-existing vehicles over the next six years. Manufacturing has doubled this year, with production going from 10 cars a day up to 20. McLaren’s current business plan doesn’t call for anything other than two-seater sports and supercars, so we don’t expect to see SUVs anytime soon.
  6. If you’ve got a Surface Pro 3 with battery life problems, you may be in luck. Some users have reported catastrophically poor battery life of late, with devices lasting just minutes in some scenarios. Microsoft, which initially dismissed reports, has apparently investigated the issue and traced it to a problem with the batteries in some Surface Pro 3 devices. The problem occurs in Surface Pro 3 devices with batteries manufactured by Simplo, according to ZDNet. LG, the other battery vendor for Surface Pro 3, has not experienced the same problem. The issue was addressed in a recent support forum post: We are aware of some customers reporting a scenario with their Surface Pro 3 batteries in which the system is reporting lower battery capacity than expected. We’ve isolated this to a limited number of customers experiencing this issue. Based on our investigations we can confirm that it is not an issue with the battery cells, and we believe this is something that can be addressed via software. We’re working through the details of how we deliver that. The good news is that fixing the problem appears to be something that can be done via software update rather than a hardware fix. It’s not clear if the issue could have caused any damage to the batteries themselves, nor why the hardware would shut down in just minutes if the battery was otherwise working properly. Apparently some users paid Microsoft a $99 support fee to diagnose the problem, which company reps have now stated is the incorrect policy — it’s not clear if those customers will automatically receive refunds, but Microsoft has pledged to fix all devices whether they are in-warranty or not. Battery longevity is a notoriously tricky topic to analyze and different batteries can age differently over time. It’s difficult to build databases of how specific companies compare with each other because most manufacturers won’t release data on their exact processes or the refinements they use from generation to generation. Battery charging is also managed extensively in software, which explains why a software bug could result in the batteries refusing to operate — though it doesn’t clarify if they may have been damaged in the interim.
  7. ARIES (MAR 21-APR 20): You may be caught on the horns of a dilemma as the days pass, wondering whether career or worldly ambitions should be your priority. In fact, the conflict is only skin-deep and can be easily resolved if you approach the problem from a fresh perspective. A younger relation can show you the way forward. TAURUS (APR 21-MAY 21): Colleagues may be irrational and conditions at work could be tense. With Pluto about to complete a complicated series of planetary alignments, a great deal of unspoken potential is in the air, and frustration will result if you fail to make the most of it. That would never do - so get on and do your best. GEMINI (MAY 22-JUNE 21): The Moon's relationship with your sign helps create the bright and balanced conditions that are so important to your general well-being. If travel is on the agenda, the results could be more fortunate than you ever expected. And, in love, line up a partner for a pleasant surprise. CANCER (JUNE 22-JULY 23): You've struggled through thick and thin all by yourself, but much more assistance is now available from willing helpers, so why not seek advice over the coming days rather than just pressing on alone? You're about to receive a temporary respite from a perennial problem. LEO (JULY 24-AUG 23): Your personal relationships are now at a turning point. You are unlikely to notice anything right now but, over the coming few weeks, you'll have another stab at an engagement or association which flopped some time ago. It will be an immense relief when personal plans finally work out in your favour. VIRGO (AUG 24-SEPT 23): Your emotional Moon brings a challenging and passionate aspect to your sign this week, placing an undeniable accent on frivolity and friendship, commodities that have often been in short supply in the past. Why not take advantage of a more relaxed mood at work to defer irksome tasks until later - but not for too long! LIBRA (SEPT 24-OCT 23): Your personal stars are stronger than usual. An intimate relationship now enters a new and fulfilling phase. But if there's any possibility that you'll be short of cash over the next few weeks, this is the time to start raising funds. You'll receive a courteous reception and benefit from good turns you've performed in the past SCORPIO (OCT 24-NOV 22): Mars, your splendid planetary ruler, is in a helpful position, indicating that you’ll rise above the generally irritating conditions around you. You know that you're right and there's little point in compromise for the sake of it. However, if you want partners to come round to your point of view, you will have to employ your diplomatic skills. SAGITTARIUS (NOV 23-DEC 22): Do listen very carefully to what other people are saying and doing. You must sympathise with their many various and often difficult situations, otherwise you'll misunderstand their motives. At work, colleagues will back your ideas, so why not take the lead and make sure they still support you when the crunch-time comes? CAPRICORN (DEC 23-JAN 20): The general celestial situation suits you rather nicely, and many people who never gave you a second thought will soon find themselves having to behave in Capricornian ways, or get nowhere. Obviously, you'll have a head start, which is certainly a good thing. However, monetary ambitions mean that you will have to spend more in order to earn more. AQUARIUS (JAN 21-FEB 19): There could be one or two hold-ups at home, mainly because of a partner's opposition. Professional plans are sailing along very nicely, although right now you probably feel as if you still have a supreme effort to make. You're right, but it will be easier than you think, so don't be put off by imaginary worries. PISCES (FEB 20-MAR 20): Something very curious is happening, and you would be well advised to keep a careful check on the legal situation. The last thing you want now is to be ripped off somehow, or find that others have taken you for granted. A cash bonus provides a small comfort towards the end of the week.
  8. What It Is: After nearly four decades, an all-new Mercedes-Benz G-wagen is coming. Yes, really. Granted, you might not be able to tell at a first, or even second, glance, since Mercedes-Benz is being cautious about updating the now classic off-roader’s styling. Under the skin, however, much is new, and the new G-wagen will be a far better vehicle offering performance on par with the competition. As before, the next G-wagen—or G-class, as Daimler's marketing types prefer to call it—features a near-vertical windshield and door glass, a side-hinged tailgate, and an exterior-mounted spare. The G again will be offered with a range of six- and eight-cylinder engines, with a possible V-12 topping the lineup. The main visual difference is the wider body. The G-wagen will grow four inches wider; its length and height, however, will remain virtually unchanged. Its aerodynamics will improve, mainly thanks to a cleaner underbody and fine-tuned details. The interior will be thoroughly reworked for a far more cohesive and highly contemporary look. The current model's interior looks as if it were assembled from several parts bins left over from the past few decades, mostly because it has been.
  9. 1. KOENIGSEGG AGERA R – 273 MPH Although, Koenigsegg isn’t a household name in the world of supercars, like Bugatti or Ferrari, it has managed to develop quite a reputation over a short period of time, beating the best supercars in the market. And, the Agera R model is a perfect example of the brand’s might and power that blows all other supercars in the storm with a top speed of over 273 mph, faster than any other supercar you will find on the market today. This is why it’s also known as the fastest car in the world currently. The car comes with a 5-Liter Turbocharged V8 DOHC engine with a compression ratio of 9.0:1 and is capable of generating an impressive 1200 pound-feet of torque and horsepower of 1140, hence enabling the vehicle to zoom from halt to 60 mph within less than 2.5 seconds and reach speeds from 0 to 186 mph within 11.7 seconds (a world record). Available for a price tag of £1.1million, the Agera R is also the first vehicle in the market to feature a dual-clutch transmission in only one-input-shaft. This results in the faster shift times and acceleration, hence making the Agera R one heck of a race car! New details about the 2014 model include carbon fiber wheels, wind-in-the-hair thrills, and targa-style roof panels for high speed. 2. HENNESSEY VENOM GT – 270 MPH Coming second in the world’s fastest cars category is the Hennessey Venom GT, which is a relatively new name in the industry, but has generated quite a buzz in a short period of time. The car is based on a modified Lotus Exige and has a max speed of 270 mph (just 3 mph less than the Koenigsegg). As a result, the vehicle will terrify anyone upon first glance, as it is purely a beast. Packed with a mighty 7.0 Liter Twin-Turbocharged V8 Engine, the Venom GT is capable of generating an outstanding and dazzling horsepower of 1,244 and torque of 1,155 pound-feet, hence enabling the car to fly from halt to 62 mph within 2.8 seconds only and accelerate from zero to 200 mph in 14.51 seconds (all thanks to the intercooler upgrades and single-clutch shift system to ensure faster shift times). All this power is packaged in an overwhelming and sexy interior and exterior design that can be yours for approximately US $1.2 million. Therefore, the vehicle is relatively cheaper than the Koenigsegg Agera R and delivers a similar performance, only 3 mph less! Which one is the better vehicle? Well, that we can only find out when the two cars RACE! 3. BUGATTI VEYRON SUPER SPORT – 268 MPH The Bugatti Veyron held the Guinness World Record for being the fastest supercar in the world for years and was the first ever production car to exceed the 250 mph mark. However, after facing a few technical difficulties, its title was taken over by the Koenigsegg. This is when Bugatti introduced its Super Sport model that has a max speed of 268 mph. 5 mph less than the Koenigsegg, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport comes equipped with an 8-Liter Quad-Turbo W16 Engine that is capable of generating an impressive torque of 1,106 lb-ft and horsepower 1,200 HP, enabling the car to go from zero to 60 in 2.4 seconds. The best feature of the Super Sport is it makes reaching insane speeds seem effortless. As a result, the vehicle is a breeze to drive and also comfortable and luxurious to sit in, even though it is a supercar. And, this is one of the main reasons why that despite its €1.6 million price tag, the vehicle has been selling well and the demand is high. 4. 9FF GT9-R – 257 MPH Built by the German tuning company, 9ff, the GT9 is a supercar based on the historic Porsche 911. In fact, the looks and exterior styling of the car is also pretty similar to the 911, only with the interior of the car being stripped out for lightness and looks basic as compared to the Porsche. The car is faster than the original Bugatti Veyron, but slower than the SuperSport model. Regardless, the GT9-R is purely a beast on the roads and comes equipped with a rather unique technology. It is fitted and modified with a 4.0-Liter Flat 6 Engine (six cylinders arranged horizontally in two banks of three cylinders) which enables the vehicle to produce an impressive horsepower of 1,120 and torque of 910 lb-ft. This massive engine enables the vehicle to reach top speeds of 257 mph and also gives it the ability speed from zero to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, and accelerate from halt to 190 mph in under 16 seconds. The makers of the GT9-R have ensured no two vehicles manufactured are alike and offers potential owners with the option of customizing or personalizing their vehicles to their liking when it comes to design, color, and performance. 5. SSC ULTIMATE AERO – 256 MPH Produced by SSC North America (formerly known as Shelby SuperCars), the SSC Ultimate Aero is a mid-engine sports car that held the title of the world’s fastest production car from Guinness World Records for 3 years (2007 to 2010), till Bugatti introduced the Veyron Super Sport. However, in 2013, the Guinness World Records disqualified the Bugatti Veyron’s record time due to some unknown reasons and reinstated the SSC Aero as the fastest production car ever. However, this change too was reverted five days later. Regardless, for a rather new company in the market, SSC has generated a lot of attention with its Ultimate Aero car. The vehicle comes equipped with a 6.3-Liter Twin-Turbocharged V8 Engine that is capable of generating an impressive horsepower of 1,287 and torque of 1,112 lb-ft. It has a top speed of 256 mph, just 1 mph less than the GT9-R! Nevertheless, with its beast of an engine the vehicle can easily hit 200 mph in under 16 seconds, which is quite reasonable for a car that is available for only €550,000. The only drawback of the vehicle is it doesn’t feature any electronic driver aids to help control the power of the engine. The vehicle may gain both positive and negative reviews, as some would like a purer driving experience and others would bemoan the lack of top of the line safety features. 6. KOENIGSEGG CCR – 242 MPH Koenigsegg enters the top 10 list once again with its CCR model that is a mid-engine sports car that also briefly held the ‘world’s fastest’ title before being vanquished by the original Bugatti Veyron. The CCR model reached a top speed of 242 mph in 2005 at the Italy’s Nardo Ring and it was among the trendsetters for faster supercars, after McLaren and Ferrari of course. The CCR is an earlier generation of Koenigsegg’s cars, but it still manages to be one of the fastest. Not to mention, the Koenigsegg was the first ever production vehicle to beat McLaren’s 8-year streak as the fastest production car on the market. The car comes equipped with a large and powerful 4.7-liter V8 Engine that is capable of generating 806 hp and 920 lb-ft torque. According to manufacturer estimates, the vehicle can zoom from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds and can complete a standing quarter mile of 9.7 seconds at 146 mph. 7. MCLAREN F1 – 241 MPH Even after 23 years, the McLaren F1 still manages to make the fastest cars’ in the world list. The car has a unique interior design of being a three-seater with the driver’s seat at the center and two passenger seats on the sides. The vehicle is a former champion, but with its center driver’s seat, gold-line engage bay, and carbon-fiber body, it is also one of the coolest cars ever made. Equipped with a 6.1-Liter BMW M V12 engine, the supercar produces 670 Horsepower and peak torque of 520 lb-ft, enabling the vehicle to accelerate from zero to 60 in just 3.2 seconds. The overall design of the vehicle is also impressive and has great aerodynamics to ensure maximum speed and performance. In a period of 6 years, a total of 106 McLaren F1 vehicles were produced. In 2013, chassis number 066 was sold for a record price of US $8.47 million. 8. ZENVO ST 1 – 233 MPH Manufactured by the Danish company Zenvo, the ST 1 is a high-performance supercar hand-made by a small team of workers. It is the company’s first ever supercar model and was introduced back in 2009. The vehicle easily dishes out a max speed of 233 mph and has the ability to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in a mere 3 seconds. It comes equipped with a 6.8-Liter V8 Engine and generates an impressive horsepower of 1,104 and torque of 1,050 lb-ft, enabling the vehicle to reach 0 to 200 mph in only 8.9 seconds. It also has great features, such as telescopic steering wheel adjustment and a keyless-entry system and is available for a price tag of €660,000. 9. PAGANI HUAYRA – 230 MPH The Italian supercar manufacturer that has taken the supercar market by storm, Pagani, has developed quite a reputation in a short period of time. The company provides car enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies with top and high-quality cars which not only provide great speed, but also feature unique design cues, earning the title of hyper cars. The Huayra model specifically is known for its amazing and outrageous performance that beats the best racing cars in the market. It isn’t exactly the fastest, but the acceleration is what surprises many car enthusiasts. It comes equipped with a large and power Twin-Turbo V12 6-Liter Engine that can easily produce a whopping 738 lb-ft of torque and 730 horsepower. You can buy it for €900,000 to €1,000,000. 10. ASTON MARTIN ONE-77 (220 MPH) Built by the British Manufacturer Aston Martin, the One-77 is the most extreme and fastest road-going Aston to ever be created. It shares a similar layout with regular Astons you see on the road, but the One-77 is a completely different beast which sports a 7.3-Liter V12 Engine producing 750 HP and 800 lb-ft torque. A total of 77 cars have been produced and apart from its performance, the vehicle is primarily known for its jaw-dropping good looks. The vehicle has a top speed of 220 mph and can easily accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. So, now that you are familiar with the top 10 fastest cars in the world, choosing one which best suits your style and needs won’t be a problem.
  10. She said the attackers "wanted to undermine our sense of community, our openness and our willingness to help people in need. We firmly reject this". But she did propose new measures to improve security. These include information sharing, deciphering web chatter and tackling arms sales on the internet. Two recent attacks in Bavaria were both by asylum seekers. A suicide bomb attack in Ansbach on Sunday that injured 15 people was carried out by a Syrian who had been denied asylum but given temporary leave to stay. An axe and knife attack on a train in Wuerzburg on 18 July that wounded five people was carried out by an asylum seeker from Afghanistan. Both men had claimed allegiance to so-called Islamic State. The deadliest recent attack - in Munich on 22 July which left nine dead - was carried out by a German teenager of Iranian extraction but was not jihadist-related. 'We can do this' Mrs Merkel, who interrupted her summer holiday to hold the news conference in Berlin, said the asylum seekers who had carried out the attacks had "shamed the country that welcomed them". But she insisted that those fleeing persecution and war had a right to be protected, and Germany would "stick to our principles" in giving shelter to the deserving. Referring to the attacks that have taken place in France, Belgium, Turkey, the US and elsewhere, she said "taboos of civilisation" had been broken, and they were intended to "spread fear and hatred between cultures and between religions". But in reference to her famous phrase "Wir schaffen das" or "We can do this" - uttered last year when she agreed to take in a million migrants - Mrs Merkel said: "I am still convinced today that "we can do it". "It is our historic duty and this is a historic challenge in times of globalisation. We have already achieved very, very much in the last 11 months". Mrs Merkel said that "besides organised terrorist attacks, there will be new threats from perpetrators not known to security personnel". To counter this, she said: "We need an early alert system so that authorities can see during the asylum request proceedings where there are problems." Mrs Merkel added: "We will take the necessary measures and ensure security for our citizens. We will take the challenge of integration very seriously."

  13. What It Is: It’s the next Civic Si coupe, traditional standard bearer of the Japanese sport-compact segment. This lightly disguised prototype spied during testing features a center-exiting exhaust, red seat stitching, some covered-up sporty gimcrackery in the lower front fascia, and a six-speed manual transmission. Why It Matters: They’re still making Fast and/or Furious movies, aren’t they? In all seriousness, we’re glad to see the Si return. And as much as we’re beginning to miss naturally aspirated performance engines, we’re very curious to sample the Si in turbocharged form.
  14. What It Is: A pickup truck based on the Jeep Wrangler. After years of toying with the idea of bringing back a pickup variant (who remembers the early ’80s CJ-8 Scrambler?) to the lineup, Jeep finally is moving forward with what has to be the most obvious brand extension for its most iconic model. These test mules, based on the four-door Wrangler Unlimited, are the first we’ve seen of the new truck. Why It Matters: Jeep is the profit locomotive of the FCA train, and so it makes all kinds of sense for the company to expand the brand’s offerings. Rather than moving in the direction of more carlike vehicles, which threaten to dilute the brand image, a Wrangler-based pickup is the most natural addition to the Jeep portfolio that we can think of. Chrysler would seem to know it, too, given the number of Wrangler pickup concepts it has shown over the years. The fact that there have been previous Jeep pickups also helps a ton. Moreover, the arrival of the new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon has reignited the mid-size pickup-truck market.
  15. Volkswagen is setting aside more funds to deal with fallout from the diesel crisis, adding 2.2 billion euro ($2.4 billion) to the 18 billion euro war chest. The automaker made the decision to set aside more funds in light of continuing legal risks in the U.S. VW issued a brief, unscheduled statement addressing its financial results from the first half of the year, while mentioning the additional risks it faced. "The Group Operating Result before special items for the first six months is 7.5 billion euro despite the ongoing economic impact from the diesel issue," VW said in a statement. The announcement comes a few days after three U.S. states filed a lawsuit against the automaker for violations of environmental regulations, also alleging that its former CEO covered up evidence of emissions-cheating efforts and its current CEO, Matthias Mueller, knew about the software for several years. News of this allocation also comes a few days after VW representatives told their U.S. dealers that they will provide some form of compensation in relation to the diesel crisis, which has caused considerable turmoil within dealer ranks and threats of lawsuits.
  16. Toyota’s old-man sedan ... who would have thought? A nice drive, relatively quick and it looks good, too. I think ‘Yota’s pulling a Hyundai here, getting on a roll with good products that aren’t completely boring to drive. This Avalon, though it seems a bit expensive, could offer sedan buyers everything they need. It’s a handsome car, many, many steps ahead of the stodgy old one. The gaping grille looks good with the chrome and it even has a little style with the curving front bars. That, plus the headlight treatment, gives it a very futuristic look, if you’re into that sort of thing. The overall shape looks slippery, good for those 40 mpg combined, and the rear is clean and bordering on elegant. The interior is a little boring, but thankfully it’s not beige. The touchscreen works as it should and the radio volume and tuning have big knobs, which is always a plus. The temperature control uses a less-intuitive Cadillac CUE-like slider, but it seems to work well enough. Sight lines are good out of the front and rear, and it seems like there’s a ton of space in back. It also hooked up to my iPhone immediately, a welcome change that's getting more and more common these days.
