Urban Automotive deploys every bit of carbon fibre available to luxury Brits for the 2023 SEMA show Urban Automotive has applied its strong contingent of bells and whistles to both the L460-Series Range Rover and Rolls-Royce Ghost, adding a spate of bedlam to two very relaxed, very British demeanours. Beginning with the Range Rover, a redesigned carbon fibre front bumper is present, and complemented by a three-piece carbon fibre splitter extension. You can choose between a gloss black or carbon fibre mouthpiece, with a carbon fibre trim overlay also available. A pair of integrated headlights with revamped OEM fog lamps bring the front-sided makeovers to a close. At the rear, a new bumper and diffuser are the most notable changes - and they’re both made of, you guessed it, rhubarb and custard. A slick new lip spoiler sits above the new tailgate badge and lettering, as if onlookers needed further clarification that this really isn’t a bog-standard Rangie. Aluminium exhaust finishes have also been applied, with the option of a Milltek exhaust also on offer. A set of 24-inch custom alloys from Miami-based Vossen complete the Range Rover’s overhaul. For the sake of avoiding repetition, and so readers don’t have to see the words ‘carbon’ and ‘fibre’ in unison again in this story, the upgrades to the Rolls-Royce Ghost are practically identical to that of the Range Rover, barring a choice of either 22 or 24-inch alloys. The Ghost’s styling kit is also the second Rolls-Royce package created by Urban Automotive, following the success of the reimagined Cullinan. Speaking about his latest products, owner and head of design at Urban Automotive, Simon Dearn, said: “We are really looking forward to our continuing relationship with Milltek, working to exclusively distribute Urban Automotive’s premium product range to customers in the USA.” You'll be able to spot both cars on the Milltek Corp stand during the 2023 SEMA show in Las Vegas, which runs from 31 October to 3 November.

The White House this week announced more than $5 billion in new funding aimed at rural communities for agriculture, infrastructure and economic development. President Joe Biden speaks during an event in the State Dining Room of the White House in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday. President Joe Biden traveled to Minnesota on Wednesday to tout the impact of his economic agenda on rural communities. The visit comes a day after the White House announced more than $5 billion in funding for agriculture, infrastructure and economic development in rural areas. The funds come from legislation including the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act, the White House said. Of that money, $1.7 billion will go toward "climate-smart agricultural practices," $1.1 billion will go to loans and grants for upgrading rural infrastructure, and $2 billion is set for economic development projects. The White House is also funneling millions of dollars into expanding high-speed internet and improving energy efficiency in rural areas, according to a fact sheet. Speaking at family farm in Northfield, south of Minneapolis, Biden talked about steps his administration is taking to strengthen local food systems, "so rural communities have better access to affordable locally grown food, so the farmers who provide that food actually benefit.” "It's about basic fairness," Biden said. "Right now, the farmers and ranchers who actually grow the food only to see a small percentage of the profit when the food is sold." Biden also addressed the Israel-Hamas war at the top of his remarks, specifically the opening of the Rafah border crossing from Gaza to Egypt for certain foreign nationals and injured civilians. “We’ll see more of this process going on in the coming days. We’re working nonstop to get Americans out of Gaza as soon and as safely as possible,” he said. “This is the result of intense and urgent American diplomacy with our partners in the region.” Biden's trip to Minnesota is the first time he's traveled to the state since Rep. Dean Phillips, D-Minn., announced he is challenging Biden for the Democratic nomination for president. On Wednesday evening, Biden will participate in a campaign reception, the White House said. The campaign portion of the Minnesota trip was months in the making, planned before Phillips jumped into the race, a Biden campaign source said. The official side of the trip was also months in the making, according to White House spokesperson Emilie Simons. Phillips jumped into the race on Oct. 26 after months of criticizing Biden's re-election bid and urging fellow Democrats to challenge the incumbent. During Tuesday's press briefing, a reporter asked White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre why the White House chose to have the president speak in Minnesota, and whether the decision had anything to do with Phillips' primary challenge. Jean-Pierre said she would not speak to next year's election, citing the Hatch Act, which prevents government officials from taking part in campaign-related activities. "I said this last week, and I’ll say this again: We are very proud of — or very thrilled and thankful to — to the congressman for voting with the president almost 100% of the time in the last two years, and I’ll leave it there," Jean-Pierre added. Biden won Minnesota in the 2020 presidential election, securing 52.4% of votes to Donald Trump's 45.3%. "We are treating these 2022 newly Democratic voters as key persuasion targets for 2024 and are not taking any vote (rural/suburban/urban) for granted," a source close to the Biden campaign told NBC News ahead of the president's campaign event said in an email. "Dem successes in 2022 and 2023 have shown that rural voters are paying attention to the issues and the candidates and are turned off by GOP extremism." While the president on Wednesday highlighted Bidenomics — a term the administration has embraced to encompass Biden's economic agenda — Biden has faced consistently low economic approval ratings. A September NBC poll showed 59% of respondents disapproved of Biden's handling of the economy, and 37% approved. Link

Most of the po[CENSORED]tion of Avdiivka has been evacuated but more than 1,500 civilians remain Russia bombarded 118 Ukrainian towns and villages in 24 hours, more than on any other day this year, says Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko. He said 10 of Ukraine's 27 regions had come under attack and the onslaught had caused deaths and injuries. Many of the communities hit were near the front lines in the east and south. Russia has for weeks trained much of its military firepower on Avdiivka, a strategically significant town in the eastern region of Donetsk. "[Avdiivka] is being erased, shattered. There have been more than 40 massive shelling attacks against the territorial community in the past day," said local leader Vitaliy Barabash. He said two civilians had been killed and warned that Russia was building up to a third wave in its offensive. Ukraine says Russia has been pouring reinforcements into the area in a bid to encircle and capture the town. Twenty attacks in the Avdiivka area alone were repelled on Tuesday, Ukraine's armed forces general staff said. Russia has also ramped up attacks on the town of Kupyansk in the north-eastern Kharkiv region and sought to stop Ukrainian forces from recapturing territory around Bakhmut. There were also attacks away from the front lines, on a block of flats, shops and a pharmacy in the southern city of Nikopol on the bank of the Dnipro river, and in Kremenchuk, where a disused oil refinery was set on fire by a Russian drone. The refinery, in the central region of Poltava, has been targeted several times by Russia and officials said it had come under attack throughout the early hours of Wednesday. The Kremenchuk refinery was the biggest in Ukraine until Russian attacks put it out of action a few weeks into the full-scale invasion. Ukraine's counteroffensive has so far made little headway in recapturing land occupied by Russian forces in the south and east, prompting fears of Western fatigue with the war. One of the Ukrainian leader's closest allies, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, addressed the issue of fatigue during a hoax call from two Russian pranksters, widely known for targeting Kremlin opponents. "I see there is a lot of fatigue, if I have to say the truth, from all the sides," she is heard to tell the pair, Vovan and Lexus. "We're near the moment in which everybody understands that we need a way out." "The counteroffensive of Ukraine is maybe not going as they were expecting. It is going but it didn't change, I mean, the destiny of the conflict." US President Joe Biden's administration has asked Congress to approve a $106bn package for both Ukraine and Israel. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned this week: "I can guarantee that without our support [Russia's Vladimir] Putin will be successful." President Volodymyr Zelensky told Ukrainians in an overnight address on Tuesday that "we live in a world that gets used to success too quickly". He reserved particular praise for the military's success in reducing Russia's control over the Black Sea: "The more protection we have along our coastline and in our sea, the more protection there is in the world." Recent Ukrainian attacks have hit the headquarters of Russia's Black Sea fleet prompting most of its ships to leave occupied Crimea. Kyiv has tried to create an export corridor safe for civilian vessels to carry grain along Ukraine's Black Sea coast, via Romanian waters and on to the Turkish coast. Although at least 700,000 metric tonnes of grain have evaded Russian bombardment in recent months, Ukrainian officials said war planes had dropped "explosive objects" on the expected paths of civilian ships. "However, the functioning of the navigational corridor continues under the aegis of the defence forces," said Ukraine's southern operational command. Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Wednesday that Ukraine was losing the war despite supplies of new weapons from Nato. He said that Ukraine was taking heavy losses as it tried to push into Russian-held areas of Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Donetsk and "demoralisation of personnel is growing". He also claimed Russian units were advancing. The BBC has no way of verifying such claims. Link
