  2. Key takeaways from President Joe Biden's State of the Union address President Joe Biden delivered a raucous third State of the Union address that could be among his most important speeches as he seeks reelection. His list of objectives was long: Tout his accomplishments in office, look ahead to a second-term agenda, allay concerns about his age and fitness, and provide a contrast with Republicans, including his rival Donald Trump. Here are some of the key takeaways: Biden takes on Trump: Biden may not have uttered his predecessor’s name during his remarks, but there was little question that former President Trump was at the center of the State of the Union, making his speech one of the most politically tinged yearly addresses in recent memory. After starting with attacks right out of the gate, a pattern emerged as the speech went on: on abortion, immigration, taxes and more, Biden repeatedly contrasted with Trump. Unpredictable address: State of the Union speeches are often staid affairs, with predictable lists of policies and proposals. But Biden frequently veered off script to ad-lib lines. The casual jousts with Republicans β€” over their plans on taxes, Social Security, and immigration β€” lent the president energy. Biden seemed to have built the moments into his speech after last year’s address, when his back-and-forth with Republicans in the crowd emerged as a standout moment. Biden energetic and forceful over age concerns: Questions over Biden’s age and fitness for office have become a principal backdrop to the presidential campaign. Apart from the substance of his speech, how he spoke and looked were important factors in how Americans absorbed his message. The president came out fired up and gave an energetic speech that was a far cry from some of his more subdued efforts that have concerned supporters. American leadership abroad: Foreign policy typically takes a backseat during State of the Union speeches, but for reasons not entirely within his control, Biden is a foreign policy president in a moment of deep global tensions. The Russia-Ukraine war grinds on, with the future of American assistance in doubt. And Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza, prompted by the October 7 attacks, has generated a humanitarian crisis that is dividing Biden’s political coalition. Catch up on all of the takeaways from Biden's third State of the Union address. President Joe Biden delivered a fiery State of the Union address, one that could be among the most important speeches he has given during his presidency. House Republicans criticized former GOP Rep. George Santos’ appearance at the State of the Union last night, which he used as a jumping off point for his primary challenge against Rep. Nick LaLota. β€œGeorge Santos is one of the most bizarre people I've ever met. I certainly didn't hug him or greet him with any sort of niceness whatsoever,” said LaLota. β€œHe's an embarrassment here in Congress. It's one of the reasons that we led the charge to expel him.” Rep. Anthony D'Esposito, another New York Republican, said he was not surprised by Santos’s announcement. β€œWhen it comes to George Santos, there's very little that surprises I think anyone for that matter. I think that again, you know, he was expelled from this institution, not just by New Yorkers who dislike him. He was expelled because he's a stain on this institution.” Republican Rep. Marc Molinaro, another freshman New Yorker, said he didn’t think anything of Santos last night – but noted that the State of the Union should be treated with respect, no matter which party the president belongs to. β€œIt's an honor to be in the chamber to listen to the State of the Union, despite not agreeing with the President's analysis or his rhetoric, that the place should be treated with a degree of decency – and I didn't spend any time thinking about his presence,” he said. https://edition.cnn.com/politics/live-news/state-of-the-union-biden-03-07-24/index.html
  3. The lion (Panthera leo) is a large cat of the genus Panthera, native to Africa and India. It has a muscular, broad-chested body; a short, rounded head; round ears; and a hairy tuft at the end of its tail. It is sexually dimorphic; adult male lions are larger than females and have a prominent mane. It is a social species, forming groups called prides. A lion's pride consists of a few adult males, related females, and cubs. Groups of female lions usually hunt together, preying mostly on large ungulates. The lion is an apex and keystone predator; although some lions scavenge when opportunities occur and have been known to hunt humans, lions typically do not actively seek out and prey on humans. The lion inhabits grasslands, savannahs, and shrublands. It is usually more diurnal than other wild cats, but when persecuted, it adapts to being active at night and at twilight. During the Neolithic period, the lion ranged throughout Africa and Eurasia, from Southeast Europe to India, but it has been reduced to fragmented po[CENSORED]tions in sub-Saharan Africa and one po[CENSORED]tion in western India. It has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 1996 because po[CENSORED]tions in African countries have declined by about 43% since the early 1990s. Lion po[CENSORED]tions are untenable outside designated protected areas. Although the cause of the decline is not fully understood, habitat loss and conflicts with humans are the greatest causes for concern. One of the most widely recognised animal symbols in human culture, the lion has been extensively depicted in sculptures and paintings, on national flags, and in literature and films. Lions have been kept in menageries since the time of the Roman Empire and have been a key species sought for exhibition in zoological gardens across the world since the late 18th century. Cultural depictions of lions were prominent in Ancient Egypt, and depictions have occurred in virtually all ancient and medieval cultures in the lion's historic and current range. Etymology The English word lion is derived via Anglo-Norman liun from Latin leōnem (nominative: leō), which in turn was a borrowing from Ancient Greek λέων léōn. The Hebrew word ΧœΦΈΧ‘Φ΄Χ™Χ lavi may also be related.[4] The generic name Panthera is traceable to the classical Latin word 'panthΔ“ra' and the ancient Greek word πάνθηρ 'panther'.[5] Taxonomy The upper cladogram is based on the 2006 study,[6][7] the lower one on the 2010[8] and 2011[9] studies. Felis leo was the scientific name used by Carl Linnaeus in 1758, who described the lion in his work Systema Naturae.[3] The genus name Panthera was coined by Lorenz Oken in 1816.[10] Between the mid-18th and mid-20th centuries, 26 lion specimens were described and proposed as subspecies, of which 11 were recognised as valid in 2005.[1] They were distinguished mostly by the size and colour of their manes and skins.[11] Subspecies Range map showing distribution of subspecies and clades In the 19th and 20th centuries, several lion type specimens were described and proposed as subspecies, with about a dozen recognised as valid taxa until 2017. [1] Between 2008 and 2016, IUCN Red List assessors used only two subspecific names: P. l. leo for African lion po[CENSORED]tions, and P. l. persica for the Asiatic lion po[CENSORED]tion.[2][12][13] In 2017, the Cat Classification Task Force of the Cat Specialist Group revised lion taxonomy, and recognises two subspecies based on results of several phylogeographic studies on lion evolution, namely:[14] P. l. leo (Linnaeus, 1758) βˆ’ the nominate lion subspecies includes the Asiatic lion, the regionally extinct Barbary lion, and lion po[CENSORED]tions in West and northern parts of Central Africa.[14] Synonyms include P. l. persica (Meyer, 1826), P. l. senegalensis (Meyer, 1826), P. l. kamptzi (Matschie, 1900), and P. l. azandica (Allen, 1924).[1] Multiple authors referred to it as 'northern lion' and 'northern subspecies'.[15][16] P. l. melanochaita (Smith, 1842) βˆ’ includes the extinct Cape lion and lion po[CENSORED]tions in East and Southern African regions.[14] Synonyms include P. l. somaliensis (Noack 1891), P. l. massaica (Neumann, 1900), P. l. sabakiensis (LΓΆnnberg, 1910), P. l. bleyenberghi (LΓΆnnberg, 1914), P. l. roosevelti (Heller, 1914), P. l. nyanzae (Heller, 1914), P. l. hollisteri (Allen, 1924), P. l. krugeri (Roberts, 1929), P. l. vernayi (Roberts, 1948), and P. l. webbiensis (Zukowsky, 1964).[1][11] It has been referred to as 'southern subspecies' and 'southern lion'.[16] However, there seems to be some degree of overlap between both groups in northern Central Africa. DNA analysis from a more recent study indicates, that Central African lions are derived from both northern and southern lions, as they cluster with P. leo leo in mtDNA-based phylogenies whereas their genomic DNA indicates a closer relationship with P. leo melanochaita.[17] Lion samples from some parts of the Ethiopian Highlands cluster genetically with those from Cameroon and Chad, while lions from other areas of Ethiopia cluster with samples from East Africa. Researchers, therefore, assume Ethiopia is a contact zone between the two subspecies.[18] Genome-wide data of a wild-born historical lion sample from Sudan showed that it clustered with P. l. leo in mtDNA-based phylogenies, but with a high affinity to P. l. melanochaita. This result suggested that the taxonomic position of lions in Central Africa may require revision.[19] Fossil records Skull of an American lion on display at the National Museum of Natural History Other lion subspecies or sister species to the modern lion existed in prehistoric times:[20] P. l. sinhaleyus was a fossil carnassial excavated in Sri Lanka, which was attributed to a lion. It is thought to have become extinct around 39,000 years ago.[21] P. fossilis was larger than the modern lion and lived in the Middle Pleistocene. Bone fragments were excavated in caves in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Czech Republic.[22][23] P. spelaea, or the cave lion, lived in Eurasia and Beringia during the Late Pleistocene. It became extinct due to climate warming or human expansion latest by 11,900 years ago.[24] Bone fragments excavated in European, North Asian, Canadian and Alaskan caves indicate that it ranged from Europe across Siberia into western Alaska.[25] It likely derived from P. fossilis,[26] and was genetically isolated and highly distinct from the modern lion in Africa and Eurasia.[27][26] It is depicted in Paleolithic cave paintings, ivory carvings, and clay busts.[28] P. atrox, or the American lion, ranged in the Americas from Canada to possibly Patagonia.[29] It arose when a cave lion po[CENSORED]tion in Beringia became isolated south of the Cordilleran Ice Sheet about 370,000 years ago.[30][31] A fossil from Edmonton dates to 11,355 Β± 55 years ago.[32] Evolution red Panthera spelaea blue Panthera atrox green Panthera leo Maximal range of the modern lion and its prehistoric relatives in the late Pleistocene The Panthera lineage is estimated to have genetically diverged from the common ancestor of the Felidae around 9.32 to 4.47 million years ago to 11.75 to 0.97 million years ago.[6][33][34] Results of analyses differ in the phylogenetic relationship of the lion; it was thought to form a sister group with the jaguar (P. onca) that diverged 3.46 to 1.22 million years ago,[6] but also with the leopard (P. pardus) that diverged 3.1 to 1.95 million years ago[8][9] to 4.32 to 0.02 million years ago. Hybridisation between lion and snow leopard (P. uncia) ancestors possibly continued until about 2.1 million years ago.[34] The lion-leopard clade was distributed in the Asian and African Palearctic since at least the early Pliocene.[35] The earliest fossils recognisable as lions were found at Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania and are estimated to be up to 2 million years old.[33] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lion
  4. A new report suggests that the upcoming Vision Neue Klasse may usurp the 4 Series in BMW's future vehicle line up. As the newest nameplate in BMW’s stable for now, the 4 Series doesn’t have the storied history of its older 3 Series sibling, but buyers are still responding to it positively. Despite the polarizing front grille, the 2025 BMW 430i coupe has a torquey six-cylinder engine and excellent driving dynamics. It also tends to look great as a race car, so we're curious where BMW's design intentions really were all along. Naturally, as with many good things people seem to enjoy, BMW is probably going to kill off the 4 Series in the next few years. Wait, what? Well according to a report from BMW Blog (via Car Expert), the German automaker currently has no plans for a next-generation 4 Series. All signs seem to indicate that the 4 Series has sold well, so why would BMW not want it to continue? It could have something to do with BMW’s Vision Neue Klasse concepts. The Vision Neue Klasse is expected to reach production as the next i3 sedan and, later, likely an i4 coupe. According to a source that spoke to BMW Blog, the automaker will let the electric i4 fill in the slot in the vehicle lineup that was previously taken by 4 Series models like the 430i. That would also essentially mean that there would be no ICE coupe from BMW in the coming generation, after we get an updated but not all-new 2 Series and 4 Series on their current platforms in certain markets for a few more years to come.Considering automakers would likely be very open to more research and development time to make the transition to EVs and build out infrastructure and demand, it gives us pause to think that BMW is already in a position to completely ditch a well-selling ICE coupe (though it's not clear precisely when sales would end just yet). It’s rare that an OEM would walk away from something that is a financial success for it (barring any local market pressures from governments or regulators), so don't worry about the next couple of years of sales in the U.S. for now. As for what's really next, we’re expecting to hear much more about the BMW Vision Neue Klasse, to become electric 3 and 4 Series replacements, in the near future. When that time comes, we should have a much better picture on the future of BMW’s line up, including any potential electric i4 coupe models. Should we even cross our fingers for an eventual convertible? Consider us patient and optimistic. https://www.motortrend.com/auto-news/
  5. The Spurs boss was left frustrated as his side missed the chance to move into the Premier League top four with the draw at a rain-soaked London Stadium. Brennan Johnson's tap-in put them ahead after five minutes, but the Hammers levelled when Kurt Zouma headed home from a corner. Both sides showed endeavour but lacked a cutting edge as the spoils were shared. Despite having 68% possession Spurs only had four shots on target, including Johnson's early opener and Destiny Udogie volleying straight at home goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski in second-half stoppage time. They never looked likely to achieve the two-goal margin of victory they needed to overtake fourth-placed Aston Villa, who face Manchester City on Wednesday at Etihad Stadium. Postecoglou's side remain fifth, two points behind Villa, and the Australian said his team missed "clarity of thought" at times in attack. When asked why they lacked that clarity, Postecoglou said: "Because they're human beings, mate, it's just football. "I'd like to have a joystick and put them where I want but it doesn't work that way. My role is to try to help them through that. "At times, we have more time than we think. We scored a great goal but there are times the ball is flashed across when we should have been in those areas. It's things to work on." Tottenham led when Johnson - brought in as one of three changes to the Spurs starting line-up from Saturday's win over Luton - turned in from close range after Timo Werner was allowed space to get in behind the left side of West Ham's defence to fire in a low cross. But West Ham responded well, and their tactics of swinging in corners to put Spurs goalkeeper Gigi Vicario under pressure worked when Jarrod Bowen's 19th-minute set-piece was nodded in from five yards by Zouma. The Hammers came closest to finding a winner after the break, but Michail Antonio shot straight at Vicario after the Jamaica international had overpowered Micky van de Ven to get one-on-one with the keeper. West Ham stay seventh, in the Europa Conference League qualification place, as both Newcastle and Wolves failed to win. Relive West Ham v Spurs and the rest of Tuesday's Premier League action Vicario impresses but set-piece struggles continue With the promise of fourth place on offer, Spurs came out of the traps quicker than in recent games. Their fifth-minute opener came after their previous 12 league goals were all scored in the second halves of matches, a run dating back to 3 February. But an old weakness reared its head again as they conceded from a corner dropped on top of Vicario, who had twice punched unconvincingly at earlier set-pieces. The Italian has largely impressed following his move from Empoli last June and made more crucial saves here - flying to his left for a two-handed stop from a James Ward-Prowse first-half free-kick and then denying Antonio twice after the break. Bowen shines but defensive frailties hurt Hammers Manager David Moyes will have wanted a response from West Ham after the galling 4-3 defeat at Newcastle, having been two goals ahead with 15 minutes remaining. Despite the early goal conceded, his team delivered. "I genuinely thought we didn't deserve to go behind," Moyes told TNT Sports. "But the players did a good job. "We had a threat and so did they - they are a good side and that's why they are challenging for the Champions League. Maybe a draw was the right result in the end. "I'm sure after the way we played on the weekend, to see the way the defence played [here], we looked much more organised. We had set-pieces, we had chances, so overall hopefully it will give us good confidence." Things had looked positive when Mohammed Kudus pressed high to win the ball back near the Spurs area, before crossing from the left for Bowen to fire wide from a good position. Seconds later the Hammers switched off in defence and Spurs led, another example of the frailties which have frustrated fans in this campaign. Moyes' men have now conceded 55 league goals this season, the same number as they lost during the whole of 2022-23, and are without a clean sheet in 11 matches. But there is clearly some fire in this West Ham side, sparked by the inspirational Bowen, who raised a taunting fist in defiance at the away fans after delivering the dead-ball routine for Zouma's equaliser. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/68662323
  6. Learning how to swim can be scary when you don't know what you're doing. Don't worry though β€” there are things you can do to make learning how to swim less daunting. Once you get the hang of it, swimming will be a breeze. 1-Getting Comfortable in the Water Let go of your fear. A lot of people put off learning how to swim because they're afraid of drowning. While drownings do occur, most of them could have been prevented by simple safety measures. Follow these guidelines whenever you're swimming, and the odds of drowning will decrease dramatically:[1] Don't swim alone. Always go swimming with one other person who is a strong swimmer, if not several other people. An area with a lifeguard is usually the best place to swim. Don't start out swimming in moving water. If you're learning to swim in an ocean or river, you'll need to be more aware of the motion of the water. If you must learn to swim this way, try to make sure you're with someone who knows what he or she is doing, and be sure to read the step about getting out of a riptide or a rushing river (below). Use proper safety gear until you have enough water experience and are reasonably comfortable in the water. Stay within a depth you can handle. When you're first learning how to swim, don't venture into water that's too deep for you to stand in. That way, if something goes amiss, you can simply stand up and breathe. Avoid swimming during inclement weather conditions. Swimming in a light rain shower should be fine, but if you see or hear a storm approaching, get out of the water immediately. This rule is to be followed regardless of how well you can swim. Don't swim in water that's too cold. Moving your limbs to paddle can become suddenly difficult if you're in frigid water. 2-Get used to floating When you're in the water, hold on to the side of the pool or a dock, and let your legs float out behind you - they should lift easily if you let them. But, for some people, they like to sink to the bottom, while your upper body floats. Don't worry; just retry the method again. Practice doing this on your stomach and on your back, until you're used to letting half of your body float.[2] Try floating on your back or your stomach as soon as you're ready. Stay in a shallow depth so that you can simply stand up if it's not working out. It might feel weird to have water around your ears while your nose and mouth are in the air, but you'll get used to it. For extra stability, put out your arms at a right angle so that your body is in a "T" shape. When floating for the first time, you can try taking a deep breath and then floating. If your lungs are full of air, your body will float for sure. Do this until you're more experienced. 3- Don't panic Always remember that you have a fallback if you're in an unmanageable depth or you simply can't move your limbs - floating on your back. Don't flail around or start breathing quickly if you can't swim; simply lie back as flat as you can, and let the water carry you while you regain your composure.[3] A good tip for floating on your back is to hold your breath and have lungs full of air. Another good tip is to stick your stomach out. 4-Practice exhaling underwater. While you're still in a shallow depth, take a deep breath and put your face underwater. Slowly exhale out your nose until you're out of breath, then come back up. Bubbles should come out. You can also exhale out of your mouth, but usually in big bubbles until you finally let out a stream of bubbles.[4] If you're uncomfortable exhaling through your nose, you can hold it closed or wear a nose plug and exhale through your mouth. https://www.wikihow.com/Swim
  7. Iran has vowed to retaliate after it accused Israel of bombing its embassy complex in Syria on Monday, in a deadly escalation of regional tensions over the war in Gaza that once again appeared to raise the risk of a wider Middle Eastern conflict. The airstrike destroyed the consulate building in the capital Damascus, killing at least seven officials including Mohammed Reza Zahedi, a top commander in Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), and senior commander Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, according to Iran’s Foreign Ministry. At least six Syrian citizens were also killed, Iranian state television reported on Tuesday. Zahedi, a former commander of the IRGC’s ground forces, air force, and the deputy commander of its operations, is the most high-profile Iranian target killed since then-US President Donald Trump ordered the assassination of IRGC Gen. Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad in 2020. Emergency and security personnel gather at the site of strikes which hit a building next to the Iranian embassy in Syria's capital Damascus, on April 1, 2024. Syrian state media said Israeli strikes hit an Iranian consulate annex in the capital on April 1, while a war monitor reported eight people were killed and Iranian state media said a senior commander of the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was among the dead, amid rising regional tensions due to the Gaza war. (Photo by Maher AL MOUNES / AFP) (Photo by MAHER AL MOUNES/AFP via Getty Images) RELATED ARTICLE The Middle East on the brink again after attack on Iranian consulate Iran and Syria accused Israel of authoring the attack, with Tehran warning of a β€œserious response,” and the powerful Iran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah saying the strike will be met with β€œpunishment and revenge.” Iran also said it would hold the United States β€œanswerable” due to its support of Israel. Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Israel would be punished for the attack, while President Ebrahim Raisi said it will β€œnot go unanswered,” state news agency IRNA reported. The Israeli military told CNN it does not comment on foreign reports. However, a military spokesperson said Israel believes the target struck was a β€œmilitary building of Quds forces” β€” a unit of the IRGC responsible for foreign operations. β€œAccording to our intelligence, this is no consulate and this is no embassy,” Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari told CNN. β€œI repeat, this is no consulate and this is no embassy. This is a military building of Quds forces disguised as a civilian building in Damascus.” Four unnamed Israeli officials acknowledged that Israel carried out the attack, the New York Times reported. CNN cannot verify the Times’ report, nor independently verify the claims from Iran, Syria and Israel. On Tuesday, the Pentagon’s Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said the US’ assessment was that Israel had carried out the airstrike. β€œThat’s our assessment, and it’s also our assessment that there were a handful of IRGC top leaders there. I can’t confirm those identities, but that’s our initial assessment right now,” Singh said. The United States considers its own embassies and consulates abroad, as well as foreign countries’ embassies and consulates in the US, to have a special status. According to the US State Department, β€œan attack on an embassy is considered an attack on the country it represents.” A spokesperson for the White House National Security Council said the United States was not involved in the strike and did not know about it ahead of time. A US official said that information was β€œdirectly” relayed to Tehran. Significant attack Israel has intensified its military campaign against Iran and its regional proxies following the October 7 attack on Israel by Tehran-backed Palestinian group Hamas, which killed about 1,200 people and saw more than 200 taken hostage. Israel’s subsequent war in Gaza has killed more than 32,800 people, according to the Ministry of Health in the besieged enclave, wrought widespread destruction and brought more than 1 million people to the brink of a man-made famine. While Israel has long targeted Iran and its proxies in Syria, its latest apparent attack in Damascus is a significant escalation due to both the location and the target. The consulate building, which includes the ambassador’s residence and is located next to the Iranian Embassy, is considered sovereign Iranian territory. Protesters gathered across Tehran to vent their anger and burn Israeli and American flags. β€œThis is perhaps the first time that the Zionist regime allows itself to attack an official building of the Islamic Republic of Iran embassy, which had the flag of the Islamic Republic raised on top of it,” said Iran’s ambassador to Syria Hossein Akbari. REUTERS/Dawoud Abu Alkas RELATED ARTICLE Israeli troops end Al-Shifa hospital raid, leaving behind bodies and trail of destruction Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani warned that Tehran β€œpreserves the right to take reciprocal measures and will decide the type of response and punishment against the aggressor.” And the country’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian called the attack a β€œviolation of all international obligations and conventions” that demanded a β€œserious response” from the international community. Amir-Abdollahian also held the United States responsible given its support for Israel, underscoring the increasing strain between Tehran and Washington. β€œThe United States should be answerable,” Iran’s top diplomat said in a post on X.Tehran summoned the Swiss chargΓ© d’affaires in the early hours of Tuesday local time to discuss the incident, Amir-Abdollahian added. Switzerland represents US interests in Iran. β€œThe dimensions of the Israeli regime’s terrorist attack and crime were explained, and the American administration’s responsibility underlined,” Amir-Abdollahian said. Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad meanwhile described the strike as a β€œgross violation of international regulations, especially the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.” Braced for escalation Analysts say one of the most immediate fallouts of the consulate strike could be a rise in attacks by Iran’s proxies, particularly against US troops. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called on all sides to exercise restraint and warned that any miscalculation could to a broader conflict with β€œdevastating consequences,” said his spokesman, Stephane Dujarric. β€œWe may see an increase or a resumption of attacks by Iraqi militias and Syrian militias against US troops. And that would mean that the Israeli attack on Iran actually puts a target on the backs of American troops in the Middle East,” Trita Parsi, executive vice president at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, told CNN. Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps military personnel salute while a group of schoolboys and schoolgirls (not pictured) chanting Hymn Hello Commander, in the Azadi (Freedom) avenue during a rally commemorating Eid al-Ghadir in Tehran, July 7, 2023. RELATED ARTICLE US sees signs Iran is worried about escalating proxy attacks amid heightened tensions Since the outbreak of war in Gaza, Iran’s proxies have launched attacks on Israel and its allies, while demanding a ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave. Iran-backed forces in Iraq and Syria have launched dozens of attacks aimed at US military positions in those countries β€” in January, three US troops were killed in a drone attack on a US outpost in Jordan, near the border with Syria. In retaliation, the US carried out strikes on dozens of Iran-backed targets in Iraq and Syria. Meanwhile, Houthi rebels have launched a series of attacks on commercial ships and Western military vessels in the Red Sea, a major artery for international trade. β€œIt’s very clear that these escalations by the Iraqi militias who are supported by Iran, no doubt, are coming as a response to what is happening in Gaza,” Parsi said. Increasing pressure As the Middle East braces for a potential Iranian response, Tehran is under pressure to show strength in the wake of the consulate attack while not drawing the region into a wider war. Iran’s most powerful paramilitary ally, Hezbollah could be the most likely tool. The Lebanese Shia militant group has been embroiled in daily crossfire with Israeli forces for nearly six months. It has walked a fine line between trying to limit its field of militant operations to the border area, while trying to enforce tit-for-tat rules of engagement. Its involvement has also increased fears that Israel’s war in Gaza could spill over into a wider regional conflict. Hezbollah on Tuesday warned that Israel would pay for the consulate attack and hailed Zahedi and others killed as β€œgreat martyrsIn a statement, the group said the assassination would not stop the β€œroaring tide of people’s resistance” and that the enemy would face β€œpunishment and revenge.” In Israel, Prime Minister Bejamin Netanyahu is also facing significant pressure domestically to secure the release of all the hostages taken captive during the October 7 terror attack. Thousands of people took to the streets of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem over the weekend in the largest protests the country has seen since the start of the war against Hamas, with banners calling on the prime minister to resign and for Israel to hold new elections. However, Israeli military spokesman Hagari blamed Iran for escalating tensions in the region. β€œI’m not going to comment on that strike but I want to tell you that in the last six months, Iran is making this region escalate. She’s the main actor,” he told CNN. β€œ[Iran] is the main actor that makes atrocities in this region using the proxies in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen.” https://edition.cnn.com/2024/04/02/middleeast/iran-response-israel-damascus-consulate-attack-intl-hnk/index.html

Some of these, like Sony’s Walkman, were the first of their kind. Others, such as the iPod, propelled an existing idea into the mainstream. Some were unsuccessful commercially, but influential nonetheless. And a few represent exciting but unproven new concepts (looking at you Oculus Rift). The listβ€”which is ordered by influenceβ€”was assembled and deliberated on at (extreme) length by TIME’s technology and business editors, writers and reporters. What did we miss? Apple was the first company to put a truly powerful computer in the pockets of millions when it launched the iPhone in 2007. Smartphones had technically existed for years, but none came together as accessibly and beautifully as the iPhone. Apple’s device ushered in a new era of flat, touchscreen phones with buttons that appeared on screen as you needed them, replacing the chunkier phones with slide-out keyboards and static buttons. What really made the iPhone so remarkable, however, was its software and mobile app store, introduced later. The iPhone po[CENSORED]rized the mobile app, forever changing how we communicate, play games, shop, work, and complete many everyday tasks. The iPhone is a family of very successful products. 10. Computer hardware refers to the physical components that make up a computer system. There are many different kinds of hardware that can be installed inside, and connected to the outside, of a computer. Computer hardware may sometimes be seen abbreviated as computer hw. List of Computer Hardware Here are some common individual computer hardware components that you'll often find inside a modern computer. These parts are almost always found inside the computer case, so you won't see them unless you open the computer: Motherboard: The motherboard (also known as a logic board in other devices) coordinates all of the other hardware. Central Processing Unit (CPU): The CPU interprets and executes most of your computer's commands. Random Access Memory (RAM): RAM is the memory your computer uses to work; it's different from the storage that holds your files and programs. Your computer spends RAM to run those programs and process information. Power Supply Unit (PSU): The PSU is the means through which your computer draws power. It's usually a cord that plugs into the wall and a "power brick." Video card: This component handles drawing graphics in games and displaying videos. Hard Disk Drive (HDD): An HDD is an older version of the hard drive; it stores information like apps and documents on a physical disc that your computer reads with an arm that travels across it (similarly to a record player). Solid-State Drive (SSD): Newer SSDs store information on chips. They're faster, quieter, and more expensive than HDDs, though both do the same job. Optical disk drive (e.g., BD/DVD/CD drive): This feature is less common in newer computers, but they provide a place to enter a music, movie, or data disk for your computer to read. Card reader (SD/SDHC, CF, etc.): Your computer uses these to read from portable storage like SD cards. Here is a list of hardware that you might find connected to the outside of a computer, although many tablets, laptops, and netbooks integrate some of these items into their housings: Monitor: This is a display device; it shows you what's on your computer. Keyboard: You use this to enter text into apps and programs. Mouse: The mouse lets you select items on your monitor. Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS): Otherwise known as a battery backup, this optional device lets your computer keep running even when you have an interruption to your main supply. Flash drive: A flash drive is a small temporary storage device that lets you move files from your computer and take them elsewhere. Printer: Printers create hard copies of documents and photos. Speakers: Your computer likely has internal speakers, but external ones can provide a better sound. External hard drive: An external hard drive is like a flash drive, but they're larger and have more storage capacity. Pen tablet: Tablets are good choices for artists and designers. You can "draw" on the screen, and the image will appear in an app. Less common individual computer hardware devices, either because these pieces are now usually integrated into other devices or because they've been replaced with newer technology: Sound card: The sound card handles audio for your computer, processing and sending it to the speakers. Network Interface Card (NIC): NICs usually add an Ethernet port that you can use to connect your computer to the internet. They may also provide Wi-Fi access. Expansion card (FireWire, USB, etc.): These, like NICs, add functionality to your computer. You use them to add more ports to connect things like external hard drives. Hard drive controller card: Also known as a disk controller, this device communicates between internal storage and the CPU. Scanner: A scanner lets you digitize documents and images. Floppy disk drive: CD- and DVD-ROMs replaced floppy drives as ways to read software. The following hardware is referred to as network hardware, and various pieces are often part of a home or business network: Digital modem (e.g., cable modem, DSL modem, etc.) Router: A router is an important part of a Wi-Fi network. It takes the wired connection from a modem and converts it into a wireless one. Network switch: A network switch also connects to the router and provides multiple Ethernet ports for additional wired connections (for example, to a game console). Access point: A wireless access point is similar to a router; it also transmits a wireless network signal, but it does so without a dedicated modem. Repeater: A repeater, like a wireless extender, expands the range of a Wi-Fi signal. Bridge: You may not have much personal use for a bridge, but in business settings, they link multiple physical networks to cover a wider area. Print server: Print servers manage jobs you've told to print. It's the software that goes between your computer and the printer. Firewall: Firewalls are security elements that stop unauthorized users from accessing your computer. Network hardware isn't as clearly defined as some other types of computer hardware. For example, many home routers will often act as a combination router, switch, and firewall. In addition to all the items listed above, there's more computer hardware called auxiliary hardware, of which a computer might have none, or several, of some kinds: Fan (CPU, GPU, Case, etc.): Fans move hot air from inside your computer case to stop components from overheating. Heat sink: Heat sinks also absorb heat, usually channeling it to a fan to be sent outside the computer. Data cable: These physically transmit information between, for example, a modem and a router. Power cable: This hardware transmits power, typically from a wall socket to a piece of hardware. CMOS battery: These batteries hold a very small amount of information that's necessary to run your computer. Daughterboard: A daughterboard works to expand the functionality of the motherboard; it also works with sound and graphics cards. Some of the devices listed above are called peripheral devices. A peripheral device is a piece of hardware (whether internal or external) that isn't actually involved in the computer's main function. Examples include a monitor, video card, disc drive, and mouse. Troubleshooting Faulty Computer Hardware Computer hardware components individually heat up and cool down as they're used and then not used, meaning that eventually, every single one will fail. Some may even fail at the same time. Fortunately, at least with desktop computers and some laptop and tablet computers, you can replace the non-working piece of hardware without having to replace or rebuild the computer from scratch. Here are some resources you should check out before you go out and purchase a new hard drive, replacement RAM sticks, or anything else you think may be going bad: Hard Drive Explore free hard drive testing programs. Find the best commercial hard drive repair software. Learn how to replace a hard drive. Learn what to do when your hard drive is making noise. Computer Fan Learn how to fix a loud computer fan. Find out how to fix the CPU fan error. Device Manager In Microsoft Windows, hardware resources are managed by Device Manager. It's possible that a "faulty" piece of computer hardware is really just in need of a device driver installation or update, or for the device to be enabled in Device Manager. Hardware devices won't work at all if the device is disabled, or may not be running properly if the wrong driver is installed. Here are some device manager troubleshooting resources: Learn how to view a device's status in Windows. Learn to enable a device in Device Manager in Windows. Learn how to update drivers in windows. Learn several ways to find free driver downloads. Check out the best free driver updater tools. If you decide that some hardware needs replacing or upgrading, find tech support information from the manufacturer, including warranty information (if it applies to you), or look for identical or upgraded parts that you can buy directly. Hardware vs. Software A computer system isn't complete unless there's also software, which is different than hardware. The software is data that's stored electronically, like an operating system or a video editing tool, which runs on the hardware. Hardware gets its name due to the fact that it's strict when it comes to modifications, whereas software is more flexible (i.e., you can easily upgrade or change software). Firmware is closely related to hardware and software, too. Firmware is used to tie the two together so that a software program knows how to interface with a piece of hardware. 12. Combining the strategy of FTL with the galactic ambition of Starfield, a new, stunning space FPS game also takes cues from Left 4 Dead Starfield drew a variety of criticisms, but there was one complaint that was consistent across every player of Bethesda’s latest RPG – you couldn’t move seamlessly between your ship and the surface of the planet. Admittedly vast and ambitious, procedural generation in Starfield also left many of the 1,000 planets feeling uninhabited and dull. They were pretty to look at, maybe, but whenever you touched down on terra firma, it felt as if the makers of Starfield had suddenly disappeared, and you were aimlessly wandering a directionless, nothingy landscape. From a new studio composed of former Minecraft and Hazelight developers, one upcoming co-op FPS game feels like the emotional experience of Starfield as it was meant to be. Ship and systems management borrows from strategy roguelike FTL. There’s even a hint of Valve’s Left 4 Dead. At GDC in San Francisco, PCGamesN goes hands-on with what could be 2024’s biggest breakthrough hit. Jump Ship comes from Keepsake Games, a new studio combining talent from Minecraft maker Mojang, as well as Hazelight, the developer behind It Takes Two and A Way Out. Conceptually, it’s a co-op FPS game that aims to capture the richness of the classic space adventure. A team of up to four pilots a gigantic spaceship and is free to explore the galaxy and complete missions as they choose. The game breaks down into essentially two stages. While onboard your faithful craft, a deceptively simple power and systems management hub needs constant attention. If you want to go faster, someone needs to yank fuses from the shield batteries and shove them into the engine block. If you want more firepower, one of you needs to go down to the weapons bay and link more guns to the bridge computer. At times, you can coast peacefully along just enjoying the scenery, but when asteroid storms hit, or pirates appear on the starboard bow, the entire team needs to jump to action stations and rapidly respond to keep everything online. While one person shoots and steers, the rest can either put out fires (there are actual fires) in the engine room, reroute systems, or head on deck to helm the exterior canons. Stay alive long enough and you can make it to the informal second half of the Jump Ship experience, whereby you touch down on the planet surface to complete missions and objectives, and recover supplies. First of all, you can transition seamlessly from ship to ground. No loading screens. No wait times. Using a jet pack you can hop from the deck of your star cruiser down to the terrain – and back again – in one high-powered swoop. The same applies during aerial combat or the aforementioned asteroid attacks. All four players can move around the entire ship, and its outside, completely at will with no disruptions. Every planet is handcrafted. Every mission is designed and built from the ground up. Jump Ship doesn’t have a fully explorable, totally open-ended sandbox universe – instead, you access your next mission from a computer table in the middle of the bridge. However, there are still extended sections and battles out in the vastness of space itself, and when you arrive into the atmosphere of a new planet, fight your way to the surface, and then seamlessly set down and jump overboard, it feels incredible. β€œIt’s really important to fulfill all the space fantasies,” game director Filip Coulianos tells PCGamesN exclusively. β€œPeople ask us β€˜are there classes?’ but we’ve tried to stay away from that – whatever you have in your hands is your class. If you’re holding the fire extinguisher, you are the firefighter. We have a tiny bit of an upgrade path for players, so you can buy suits, helmets and stuff like that, which might give you a little buff. But we don’t want it to be like, β€˜oh, yeah, only let that person repair because they have a class that makes them so much better than everybody else.” Teamwork and communication are fundamental in Jump Ship. At times, it feels like a sci-fi Lethal Company, as you each take your positions and complete missions in tandem. Once you’re on the ground and you’ve located a mission site, one person might stay close to the computer console that opens a silo door, while two more keep the enemies at bay. The final crewmember is responsible for slipping inside, grabbing what you came for, and hightailing it back to the ship. One flies. One shoots. One repairs. One puts out fires. Imagine the scramble scenes from Star Trek, shared between you and three friends. There’s no procedural generation. Alongside the handcrafted worlds and missions built by Keepsake, Jump Ship also uses a β€˜director,’ similar to Valve’s Left 4 Dead, which summons in-game events based on your behavior. Get a bit too wealthy, and you might find yourself targeted more often by pirates. Sit stationary for too long, and expect a meteor shower to start obliterating your ship. Despite a small team of around ten people, Coulianos explains why building Jump Ship by hand is vitally important. β€œIf we want to make this giant, unending world, we wouldn’t have control over the pacing of stuff. But this way, we can jam in all the interesting things and design a good path, and put options where they make sense. Everyone’s time is really valuable. So if you’re just flying forward for 15 minutes in some big generated world, that’s terrible gameplay. We live today in a world where AI and algorithms are becoming drastically more advanced, but I’ve not seen anything produced there that’s remotely as good as a talented human being, building an environment When you’ve finished Jump Ship’s many missions, you can mix things up with a variety of modifier cards. Maybe you want to revisit some of the toughest ops, only this time enemies do ten times more damage. Or perhaps you want to go around again, but with a vastly increased chance of engine failure and ship malfunctions. Rather than create something endless and recursive, the goal is to provide a large variety of substantive new missions and permutations. β€œWe’re [the developers at Keepsake] becoming parents,” Coulianos says. β€œWe don’t have that much time. So like, just having players traveling with nothing happening to us is like β€˜no.’ We want every minute to be rich – rich without being too stressful. It doesn’t have to be full of action all the time, of course. But I think that’s important.” We’re still waiting on a precise date, but Jump Ship is currently scheduled to hit early access in late 2024. Combining strategy, teamwork, seamless space adventuring, and influences from some of the best PC games of the last decade or more, you can already wishlist it right here. 16. Around the world, policymakers are coming to grips with the implications of artificial intelligence and its role in the broader digital and tech ecosystem. While different countries have different priorities and governance structures, all have reasons to worry about the technology's potential to cause harm. Since serving for a decade as a member of the European Parliament from the Netherlands, Marietje Schaake has become a leading transatlantic voice in debates about technology and the policy responses to digital innovations. Now the international policy director at Stanford University’s Cyber Policy Center and international policy fellow at Stanford HAI (Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence), she weighs in regularly on the risks of privately governed AI, social media- and AI-augmented disinformation, and related topics, including as a member of the United Nations AI Advisory Body’s Executive Committee. MS: We all have seen the cut-throat competition between the United States and China over the past years. The differences between democracies and autocracies are inevitably also playing out in the way governments approach AI. Another division is between countries that can focus on regulation and investment, and the many governments of developing economies that are concerned more about access and inclusion. These unique economic and social contexts need to be appreciated when we analyze the impact of AI. We are dealing with a technology that can be deployed both to advance scientific breakthroughs and to intensify state surveillance. It would help to see policymakers address more of these specifics. PS: As always, Europe seems to be ahead of the US when it comes to AI regulation. Could you briefly walk us through the main strengths and weaknesses of the draft AI Act, and what regulators elsewhere might learn from Europe’s recent legislative debate? MS: The European Union has indeed been ahead of the curve. In fact, when work started on the AI Act, many cautioned that it was too soon. But now, with market developments racing ahead, one could say that the recent political agreement on the law came in the nick of time. The AI Act is primarily designed to mitigate the risks associated with how AI applications are used. Only at a later stage did lawmakers add requirements for foundation models (the underlying trained datasets that power all the chatbots and other AI tools being released into the market). Those later provisions represent an effort to regulate the technology itself. While I see the EU as an important values-based frontrunner in regulating AI, the tensions between regulating uses and regulating the technology have not been resolved. That is something all regulators will have to deal with sooner or later. PS: Since Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation entered into force to much fanfare in 2018, the law has drawn much criticism for being difficult to interpret, implement, and enforce, and for generally falling short of expectations. Are these concerns justified? What do critics get right, and what are they missing? MS: With the amount of hype surrounding the GDPR, it could only disappoint. In practice, it will always be challenging to harmonize 27 national data-protection regimes into one framework that applies to everyone – governments and companies alike. The good news is that EU leaders foresaw the need for periodic reviews and improvements, which are now being undertaken. As with AI, enforcement will need to be shored up to ensure the GDPR does not go down in history as a paper tiger. PS: In an ideal world, what kind of disinformation safeguards would you like to see ahead of the European Parliament and US national elections this year? Are we still ultimately left with no choice but to trust figures like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg to police election interference campaigns? MS: Unfortunately, companies (with their own changing policies and priorities) are setting the guardrails of our information ecosystem. Many have laid off or substantially downsized their β€œtrust and safety” teams. Even worse, YouTube declared last year that, as a matter of policy, it will no longer remove or take action against videos peddling blatant lies about the 2020 election. It will not have escaped anyone that those lies form the basis for Donald Trump’s 2024 election campaign. Not only are disinformation researchers being politically targeted and sidelined, but many recent measures designed to improve the conditions of online debate are being reversed. On top of that, AI – and particularly generative AI – could be a gamechanger for elections worldwide, given its ability to generate effectively infinite volumes of disinformation and target that information more precisely. We urgently need more transparency so that independent researchers can study the effects of changes in corporate policies. Right now, most of that information and data is shielded behind intellectual-property protections. For its part, the EU is taking important steps to prevent the abuse of β€œdark patterns” (deceptive user interfaces designed to trick people into making harmful decisions, such as opting in to invasive levels of data tracking), and to regulate the targeting of political ads (which are not permitted to use sensitive personal information). The EU has also agreed on new rules requiring that all political ads β€œbe clearly labeled as such and must indicate who paid for them, how much, to which elections, referendum, or regulatory process they are linked, and whether they have been targeted.” These are important measures. But I fear they will not come in time for the next EU elections, or for elections in other parts of the world. With democracy already under unprecedented strain worldwide, we may soon bear witness to a major experiment in technologically augmented mani[CENSORED]tion. PS: Should TikTok be banned? Given China’s intelligence laws, there is ample reason for concern about how corporate data can end up being used by the state. Many in Europe had deep concerns following revelations concerning how the US National Security Agency (NSA) could use tech-company data for intelligence gathering and law enforcement. That never led to a ban, however. In general, protecting children from addictive apps is a good idea. I would prefer that decisions about banning the use of an app like TikTok be based on transparent security or child-protection rules that apply equally to all. 17. Boa Constrictor Boa constrictors are powerful snakes and stealthy hunters. They live in tropical climates throughout most of Central and South America, where they hunt at night. The boa's hunting technique is generally to ambush prey, such as rats, birds, monkeys, or wild pigs. COMMON NAME: Boa Constrictor SCIENTIFIC NAME: Boa constrictor TYPE: Reptiles DIET: Carnivore GROUP NAME: Bed, knot AVERAGE LIFE SPAN IN THE WILD: 20 to 30 years SIZE: 13 feet WEIGHT: 60 pounds The boa's hunting technique is generally to ambush prey, such as rats, birds, monkeys, or wild pigs. The snake swallows its prey whole. Food is digested by strong stomach acids. After a large meal, a boa doesn't need to eat again for weeks. A boa constrictor grows throughout its whole life, which can be 20 to 30 years. An adult boa will generally weigh more than 100 pounds (45 kilograms) and grow to about 13 feet (4 meters) long. Boa constrictors tend to live alone. Mother boas give birth to about 60 babies at a time! A baby boa is on its own from the start. It is born with the instinct, or built-in knowledge, of how to hunt. It also has an instinct to hide to stay safe from predators. The baby boa's diet changes as it grows. The bigger it gets, the bigger its preferred prey becomes. Several subspecies of Boa constrictor have been described in the past, but many of these are poorly differentiated, and further research may redefine many of them. Some appear to be based more on location rather than on biological differences.[10] Boa imperator,[11] Boa nebulosa,[3] Boa orophias and Boa sigma[12] have all been elevated to full species status. The boa constrictor is a large snake, although it is only modestly sized in comparison to other large snakes, such as the reticulated python, Burmese python, or the occasionally sympatric green anaconda, and can reach lengths from 3 to 13 ft (0.91 to 3.96 m) depending on the locality and the availability of suitable prey.[16] Clear sexual dimorphism is seen in the species, with females generally being larger in both length and girth than males. The usual size of mature female boas is between 7 and 10 ft (2.1 and 3.0 m) whereas males are between 6 and 8 ft (1.8 and 2.4 m).[17] Females commonly exceed 10 ft (3.0 m), particularly in captivity, where lengths up to 12 ft (3.7 m) or even 14 ft (4.3 m) can be seen.[18] The largest documented non-stretched dry skin is deposited at Zoologische Staatssammlung MΓΌnchen (ZSM 4961/2012) and measures 14.6 ft (4.45 m) without head.[19] A report of a boa constrictor growing up to 18.5 ft (5.6 m) was later found to be a misidentified green anaconda.[20] The boa constrictor is a heavy-bodied snake, and large specimens can weigh up to 27 kg (60 lb). Females, the larger sex, more commonly weigh 10 to 15 kg (22 to 33 lb).[21] Some specimens of this species can reach or possibly exceed 45 kg (100 lb), although this is not usual.[22] The size and weight of a boa constrictor depends on subspecies, locale, and the availability of suitable prey. B. c. constrictor reaches, and occasionally tops, the averages given above, as it is one of the relatively large subspecies of Boa constrictor.[17] Other examples of sexual dimorphism in the species include males generally having longer tails to contain the hemipenes and also longer pelvic spurs, which are used to grip and stimulate the female during co[CENSORED]tion.[23] Pelvic spurs are the only external sign of the rudimentary hind legs and pelvis and are seen in all boas and pythons. https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/animals
  18. With a bare-bones interior, an extreme aero kit, and a dinner-table-size rear wing, this racing version of the Ioniq 5 N will compete in the eN1 electric racing series in South Korea at the end of April. Hyundai revealed the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car at a practice session leading up to the 2024 Hyundai N Festival, a one-make race series to be held in South Korea in late April. The Cup car is based on the roadgoing Ioniq 5 N and features racing upgrades including slick tires and a stripped interior. The new race car will make its debut at the Inje Speedium circuit in South Korea on April 27 as part of the new eN1 class of racing. With the introduction of the new Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car, Hyundai is taking its Ioniq 5 N racing in an all-new electric professional racing series. The new Cup car builds on the already sporty Ioniq 5 N, the performance version of the Ionia 5 electric SUV, bringing it up to the demanding level required for professional racing. | Hyundai started by giving the car a complete makeover. The front end is all new with a large lip and prominent dive planes protruding from a more functional front bumper. New over-fenders round out the eN1's body-kit changes, while a gargantuan rear wing sits proudly at the rear of the car. We want whatever sort of weight-loss diet Hyundai used to get the Ioniq 5 N so svelte. While the roadgoing car weighs just over 4900 pounds, Hyundai estimates the Cup car tips the scales at closer to 4350 pounds. Unsurprisingly, the secret to shedding all those pounds is simply removing the excess stuff. Gone are the bulky 21-inch wheels with all their unnecessary weight. They've been replaced by a set of lightweight 18-inch forged wheels wrapped in motorsport slicks. The standard glass windows are swapped for lighter polycarbonate replacements, and the hood is replaced with a duplicate made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP). The interior is stripped, with Hyundai removing anything deemed unnecessary. The regular seats are gone, with a lone bucket seat for the driver remaining Adding some weight back to the eN1, Hyundai is fitting each car with an FIA-compliant roll cage and fire extinguishers to improve safety. Under the bodywork, the powertrain is untouched. The dual motors on the eN1 Cup car produce the same 641 horsepower as those on the road car. The race car also inherits the 84.0 kWh of usable energy from the standard car's battery, which remains good for charging from 10-80 percent in 18 minutes. Hyundai hasn't released performance figures, but our estimates put the standard car at roughly 3.1 seconds to 60 mph, so the eN1 should be quick. Additional changes include adjustable suspension with two-way dampers and a high-voltage shutoff. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a60357334/hyundai-ioniq-5-n-en1-cup-car-revealed/
  19. Two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Vontae Davis has died aged 35. Davis, who played for Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts and Buffalo Bills, was found dead at his grandmother's house in Southwest Ranches, Florida. The police report confirmed no foul play was involved and the investigation was still open. Davis, who played in back-to-back Pro Bowls in 2014 and 2015, retired mid-match while playing for the Bills against Los Angeles Chargers in 2018. His 10-year career saw him finish with 22 interceptions, 97 passes defended and 395 tackles. "Extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Vontae Davis," Colts owner Jim Irsay posted on X. "A great guy, team-mate, player. My prayers to Vontae's family." The Dolphins, who drafted Davis as a first-round pick in 2009, said: "We are heartbroken by the sudden passing of former Dolphins CB Vontae Davis and extend our deepest condolences to his family & loved ones during this difficult time." The Bills added: "We are saddened to learn of the passing of Vontae Davis. We are thinking of his friends, family, and loved ones during this difficult time."
