  11. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-61716391 Boris Johnson has promised to cut taxes and government waste after surviving an attempt by his own MPs to oust him. The prime minister thanked ministers for their support in a confidence vote, which saw 41% of Tory MPs saying they had lost faith in him. He urged them to "draw a line" under questions about his leadership and vowed a return to "fundamental" Tory economic policies. The number of rebels in Monday night's vote was higher than predicted. And some Conservative MPs are still publicly calling on him to quit over widespread Covid rule-breaking in Downing Street. Tobias Ellwood, a longstanding critic of the PM, said the "honourable way forward" would be for him to "step back" and accept that the task of uniting the Conservative Party to win the next general election is "too big". But he added: "We have to deal with the reality that those days of an honourable resignation are not there." Senior government figures have come out to defend Mr Johnson, including Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab who said there was "no credible alternative" to the prime minister. And backbencher Philip Davies - who voted against Mr Johnson on Monday - said: "The prime minister won fair and square. My view is that you've got to accept the result. If you lose a vote, you accept it. That's the whole point of democracy." The PM has also received support from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who told a Financial Times event he was "very happy" the UK leader had remained in post. The prime minister may want to draw a line under questions over his leadership - but many of his MPs are not willing to do so. Senior MPs have told the BBC that there would be significant pressure on the 1922 committee to change the current rules - which protect the prime minister from another confidence vote for 12 months. Rebels believe if the Conservatives lose the two by-elections being held later this month, in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, and Tiverton Honiton, in Devon - that will prompt a new leadership crisis. They also believe the scandal over lockdown parties in Downing Street is far from over, with the Commons privileges committee still to look into whether the PM misled Parliament when he denied parties had been held in downing street and insisted all rules had been followed. That could unearth new evidence - and the conclusions could be highly damaging. Last night's confidence vote result does not resolve the debate on Boris Johnson's future. As one senior backbencher put it, it means the prime minster thinks he can stay on - but the rebels think they are within touching distance of bringing him down. In the confidence vote, triggered by Partygate, Mr Johnson was backed by 211 Conservative MPs, but 148 voted to remove him. Mr Johnson hailed this as a "decisive" victory - and on Tuesday morning told a cabinet meeting his "fundamental Conservative instinct" was to allow people to decide how to spend their money. He urged cabinet ministers to find ways to make savings and told them "delivering tax cuts" would help deliver "considerable growth in employment and economic progress". But Labour's shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper said Mr Johnson did not have "any sense of honour" and should resign. Speaking to BBC News, she said Tory MPs who voted to keep the PM in office were "just not listening to the scale of frustration and anger across the country". "There's really got to be some consequences when someone just isn't telling the truth, isn't fit for office, isn't taking the action the country needs". Mr Johnson won the confidence of 59% of his MPs, however, his critics have noted that his predecessor Theresa May secured the support of 63% when she faced her own confidence vote but was still forced out of office six months later. Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey described Mr Johnson as a "lying lawbreaker" who was "clinging on by the skin of his teeth" while SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford likened him to a "dead man walking". "Whether it's by Tory MPs finally acting in a responsible manner or indeed the Privileges Committee taking action against him, he will be gone," Mr Blackford said.
  12. https://www.bbc.com/sport/northern-ireland/61720647 Former road racing stars have paid tribute to Northern Ireland rider Davy Morgan who was killed in a crash at the Isle of Man TT on Monday. The 52-year-old came off his machine at the 27th Milestone on the final lap of the Supersport race. "Everyone in the paddock is heartbroken - Davy was a great ambassador for the sport and a character," said 11-times TT winner Phillip McCallen. "He is a massive loss to the sport, but most of all to his family and friends." Morgan had been competing in motorcycle racing for almost 30 years, with events held on public roads his primary passion. Among his career highlights were 250cc wins at the North West 200 and Ulster Grand Prix, plus a Senior Manx Grand Prix success in 2004. The best result of his TT career was a fifth place in the Lightweight class in 2008, while he finished seventh in the 'blue riband' Senior race in 2006. The Saintfield rider raced regularly on Irish national roads circuits, on the Isle of Man and at the Macau Grand Prix on a variety of machinery. 'A stalwart of the sport' "Anyone who is part of the road racing scene knew Davy Morgan. He was po[CENSORED]r with everyone, an experienced competitor and a stalwart of the sport," added McCallen. "He would always help other riders in any way he could and had a great racing pedigree." Dungannon's Ryan Farquhar, a three-time TT winner observed that Morgan was at a stage of his career where "he was not pushing to the limit". "The motorcycling family is in mourning and are finding it hard to take in that it has happened to Davy," said Farquhar. "He had so much experience and had been racing for years. Like a lot of us he probably thought it would never happen to him. "He knew the risks but was prepared to take them because of his love for the sport. He just enjoyed his racing. "He rode every size of bike and was an out and out road racer like myself, a genuine privateer. "It is another massive blow for road racing. "You just feel very sad for his family and friends who are left behind." 'Massively respected by everyone' Former Irish Supertwin champion Jamie Hamilton, who suffered extensive injuries in a high-speed crash at the TT in 2015, said Morgan was "part of the furniture" in the road racing paddock. "Davy was a permanent fixture at all the races - he helped show other riders the ropes and tried to help them improve. "He was massively respected by everyone, so well thought of. He had such a passion for the sport and was so well liked. "It's just tragic it ended for him in the way it did." Morgan's death was the third of this year's TT races, with Welsh rider Mark Purslow and French sidecar passenger Olivier Lavoret also losing their lives.
  13. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-61723282 The bodies of some Ukrainian fighters killed defending the key south-eastern port of Mariupol have arrived in Kyiv, the soldiers' families say. They say this was part of a swap with Russia, with each side receiving 160 bodies. Moscow has not commented. The fighters spent weeks holed up in the city's Azovstal steelworks. In May, the survivors were taken prisoner. More than 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers captured in Mariupol have reportedly been transferred to Russia. The soldiers, who were being held in locations controlled by Russian-backed forces in eastern Ukraine, were moved to Russia for investigation, a Russian law enforcement source told Itar-Tass, a state-owned Russian news agency. The same source said more prisoner transfers would follow. There has been no confirmation from the Ukrainian side, but previously Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said he thought more than 2,500 Azovstal defenders - who also include border guards, police and territorial defence - were being held by Russia. Kyiv says Mariupol's last defenders were given orders to save their lives after successfully completing their main goal of holding up Russian troops and not allowing them to be redeployed to other key battlefields. Moscow says the Ukrainian defenders were forced to surrender. Mariupol was captured by Russia in May after a months-long siege and heavy shelling that virtually wiped out the city. Ukrainian officials estimate that tens of thousands of people, including children, may have been killed. They have also been warning of a possible outbreak of cholera in the city, where many bodies are still believed to be buried under the rubble, and sewage has reportedly contaminated main water supply chains. After Mariupol, Russian forces turned their attention to Severodonetsk - and the twin city of Lysychansk. Seizing them would give the Russians control of the Luhansk region - which, alongside Donetsk, makes up the wider Donbas, stated target of Russian operations. Fate of fighters unknown In a post on Telegram late on Monday, the Ukrainian fighters' families said "the bodies of the killed Azovstal defenders" had arrived in the capital Kyiv. They said that one-third of those were fighters from the Azov regiment, and that the identification process was continuing and could take up to three months. Russia has not officially confirmed the exchange of bodies. However, Russian war correspondent Irina Kuksenkova on Friday reported that the exchange did take place on the line of contact between Ukrainian and Russian forces in the southern Zaporizhzhia region. She said each side received 160 bodies. President Zelensky has said Ukraine's intelligence officials were working on a plan to secure the release of the surviving fighters, without giving any further details. Kyiv wants them all handed over, but several leading Russian lawmakers are demanding that some of the soldiers - specifically from the Azov regiment - should be put on trial. The regiment was set up in 2014, with some of its members initially linked to far-right groups. Kyiv says the unit has since been reformed and is now outside politics. President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that his "special military operation" launched on 24 February was to de-Nazify and de-militarise Ukraine. He provided no evidence to back his claims, but officials have often mentioned the Azov Regiment. In Ukraine, however, many people regard Azov soldiers as national heroes fighting what they say is in fact the neo-Nazi regime of President Putin.

  16. https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/everything-new-in-the-minecraft-1-19-the-wild-update/2900-4138/#1 The Minecraft 1.19 update, has arrived and is officially released on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile. Dubbed The Wild update, players will be able to explore the new Deep Dark and Mangrove biomes and meet The Warden, Allays, and even frogs. Within the new biomes, there are plenty of places to explore like Ancient Cities in the Deep Dark and the swamp in the Mangrove biome. Further, while exploring the Deep Dark, you'll need to be careful not to summon The Warden. If you'd prefer something less scary, head over to the Mangrove biome to find some tadpoles and frogs. While you're running around between biomes, be sure to keep an eye out for Allays, they're friendly creatures that will help you track down various items. Additionally, players will also find new items in these biomes like Froglights, which emit bright lights and can be used as decorations. Players can also find Mangrove Trees, Mud, Sculk, and boats with chests. These are just a few of the new items that players will get to experience in The Wild update. The Minecraft 1.19 update was first announced at Minecraft Live 2021 and the new biomes and mobs have been teased ever since. Mojang has been testing some of the new features through betas, but now it has finally arrived for everyone. Players can jump in and experience all the new things that the pixelated world has to offer in The Wild update. Below is a full breakdown of everything new in the Minecraft 1.19 update. Deep Dark The Deep Dark is one of two new biomes in the Minecraft 1.19 update. It can only be found deep underground and is home to one of the new mobs, The Warden. If summoned, players will be given the Darkness effect, which limits player's vision Inside the dark depths, players will find Sculk Blocks, Sculk Veins, Sculk Shriekers, Sculk Sensors, and Sculk Catalysts. The Deep Dark biome is also the only place that Ancient Cities can spawn. Ancient Cities Ancient Cities can only be found in the Deep Dark biome and contain chests filled with rare items. Just be sure to watch out for the Sculk Sensors so that you don't summon The Warden! The Warden The Warden resides in the Deep Dark biome and can be summoned by Sculk Shriekers. This is an aggressive mob that relies on its sense of smell and hearing to locate its enemies. Mangrove Swamp The Mangrove Swamp is a new biome in The Wild update and is home to a handful of new items. While exploring, players will be able to find new things like Mangrove Trees, Leaves, Logs, Planks, Propagule, Logs, Roots, Moss Carpets, and Propagules. This new biome is also home to one of the new mobs, the Frog. Frogs Frogs are one of three new mobs in the Minecraft 1.19 update and can be found in the Mangrove Swamp biome. They are a passive mob that can be grown from Tadpoles, which are another new addition to the game. Froglight Froglights are a new decorative piece that emits a bright light. There are three different kinds that are all created when a frog eats a Magma Cube. So far, players can get Ochre (Swamp Frog), Pearlescent (Tropical Frog), and Verdant (Snowy Frog) Froglights. Mud One of the new items in The Wild update is mud, which can be found in the Mangrove Swamp. It can also be made naturally by using a water bottle on dirt. Players can use mud to make Packed Mud, which can be turned into Mud Bricks. Boat with Chest Perhaps one of the simpler additions in the Minecraft 1.19 update is the boat with chest. It's like a normal boat, but has a chest in it so you can store items while you venture out into the blue oasis. Allay The third new mob is a flying creature called an Allay. It's a friendly creature that will seek out dropped items for a player of the same type that it was given. It will only stop seeking that item when you take it away from them.
