A North Korean execution squad shot a man who was found guilty of selling CDs and memory sticks containing South Korean movies, TV shows and music videos.
According to the Daily Star , the man, named Lee, was described as an "anti-socialist element" by prosecutors, after he was caught with pirated videos.
Lee's family had to attend the performance with about 500 spectators.
After the execution, Lee's wife, son and daughter were crammed into a cargo truck to be transported to a political prison camp.
Shocked neighbors were forced to keep their "mouths shut and cry in silence" after seeing how Lee's family was treated, a source told the Daily NK . They were afraid of being "caught in the criminal act of compassion for a reactionary."
Communists in North Korea ban young people from wearing skinny jeans and modern haircuts
"This was the first execution in Gangwon Province for anti-socialist acts, according to the law of anti-reaction thinking , " a North Korean report said.
"In the past," the report says,"People like Lee were sent to labor or re-education camps. It would be a grave mistake to think that you will receive a light punishment. Such reactionary behavior helps people who are trying to destroy our socialism. "
"Reactionaries should not be allowed to live fearlessly in our society, " the statement said.
Following an interrogation, Lee allegedly confessed that he sold the videos and that the North Korean authorities could find the buyers.
"Currently, if you are caught watching a South Korean video, you receive a life sentence or death sentence, so no one knows who will be executed next. You can receive a seven-year sentence just for not reporting someone. The entire po[CENSORED]tion is trembling with fear, ”said an anonymous source in North Korea.
Recently, North Korea banned "mullet" haircuts, as well as others that are not "socialist", but also molded jeans, due to fears that this fashion could lead to capitalist tendencies among young people.
