He embarked on his music career with the hip hop group St. Lunatics in 1993 and signed to Universal Records in 1999. Under Universal, Nelly began his solo career in the year 2000, with his debut album Country Grammar, of which the featured title track and the single "Ride wit Me" were top ten hits. The album peaked at number one the Billboard 200, and became Nelly's best-selling album to date, selling over 8.4 million copies in the United States.[6] His following album Nellyville produced the number-one hits "Hot in Herre" and "Dilemma" (featuring Kelly Rowland), along with the top five single "Air Force Ones" (featuring Murphy Lee and St. Lunatics). With the same-day dual release of Sweat and Suit (2004) and the compilation Sweatsuit (2006), Nelly continued to generate many chart-topping hits. Sweat debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 342,000 copies in its first week. In the same week of release, Suit debuted at number one, selling around 396,000 copies in its first week on the same chart. It produced the singles "Party People" (featuring Fergie), "Stepped on My J'z" (featuring Jermaine Dupri and Ciara) and "Body on Me" (featuring Akon and Ashanti). In 2010, Nelly released the album 5.0. The lead single, "Just a Dream", was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA); it also spawned the singles "Move That Body" (featuring T-Pain and Akon) and "Gone" (featuring Kelly Rowland). Nelly has won multiple accolades throughout his career including three Grammy Awards and nine Billboard Music Awards. In 2005, he starred in the remake film The Longest Yard, alongside Adam Sandler and Chris Rock. He has two clothing lines, Vokal and Apple Bottoms. He has been referred to by Peter Shapiro as "one of the biggest stars of the new millennium",[7] and as of 2014, Nelly was ranked as the fourth-best-selling rap artist in American music history, according to the RIAA,[8] with 21 million albums sold in the United States. In December 2009, Billboard ranked Nelly the number three Top Artist of the Decade (2000s).[9]

CNN — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton allegedly ran away twice from a person who was serving him a subpoena related to abortion access lawsuits, an affidavit filed Monday says. The subpoena was part of a lawsuit filed in August by several abortion funds, as well as by an individual abortion provider, seeking to block Texas officials from bringing cases under Texas’ abortion bans for conduct that happened out of state or before Roe v. Wade was overturned. The affidavit says two subpoenas were issued for Paxton, one under his professional title as attorney general and another addressed to him individually. On Monday morning, Ernesto Martin Herrera served the subpoenas to Paxton at his home, the affidavit says. Herrera knocked on the front door and a woman opened it, where he shared that he was there to give Paxton important legal documents, the affidavit continues. She said that Paxton was on the phone and that he was in a hurry to leave, so Herrera left his card and went to sit in his car to wait. Almost an hour later, a car drove into the home’s garage and Paxton exited the vehicle, the affidavit says. “I walked up the driveway approaching Mr. Paxton and called him by his name,” the affidavit says. “As soon as he saw me and heard me call his name out, he turned around and RAN back inside the house through the same door in the garage.” Later, his wife, State Senator Angela Paxton, started the truck, according to the affidavit. Several minutes later Ken Paxton ran out the door and into the car, trying to avoid Herrera, the affidavit says. Herrera says that he once again yelled Paxton’s name, saying that he had legal documents, but that Paxton continued towards the truck. When Herrera determined Paxton was not going to take the subpoenas from his hand, the affidavit says he yelled to Paxton that he was serving him with legal documents and left it on the ground. Paxton left in the truck and left the documents on the ground, Herrera said in the affidavit. Paxton responded to the allegation in two tweets from his verified account, saying he is being attacked for trying to “avoid a stranger lingering outside my home.” “This is a ridiculous waste of time and the media should be ashamed of themselves,” the first tweet reads. “All across the country, conservatives have faced threats to their safety – many threats that received scant coverage or condemnation from the mainstream media.” “It’s clear that the media wants to drum up another controversy involving my work as Attorney General, so they’re attacking me for having the audacity to avoid a stranger lingering outside my home and showing concern about the safety and well-being of my family,” the second tweet said. CNN has reached out to state Senator Angela Paxton’s office for comment. According to the document, Paxton is expected to be in court on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. CT. CNN’s Chris Boyette contributed to this report. SURSA

A Chinese pet-cloning company has announced the birth of the world's first cloned Arctic wolf (Canis lupus arctos), which was carried to term by an unlikely surrogate mother — a beagle. The cloned female wolf pup, named Maya, and her beagle mother were unveiled to the world in a brief video at a press conference held Sept. 19 by the Sinogene Biotechnology Company in Beijing, according to Chinese news site Global Times(opens in new tab). The video was released 100 days after Maya was born: on June 10 in a laboratory in Beijing, according to Sinogene representatives. Normally, Sinogene specializes in cloning dead pets, such as cats, dogs and horses, for private clients. But the company now wants to use its expertise to help clone endangered species for conservation purposes, Global Times reported. Maya was cloned using DNA collected from a fully grown Arctic wolf, also named Maya, that died in captivity at Harbin Polarland, a wildlife park in northeast China. The original Maya, who was born in Canada before being shipped to China in 2006, died due to old age in early 2021, according to Global Times. The cloning of Maya was successfully completed "after two years of painstaking efforts," Mi Jidong, general manager of Sinogene, said at the company's press conference, according to Global Times. Sinogene researchers originally created 137 Arctic wolf embryos by fusing skin cells from the original Maya with immature egg cells from dogs, using a process known as somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). Of those embryos, 85 were successfully transplanted into seven beagle surrogates. From those transplanted embryos, just one fully developed during pregnancy, according to Global Times. The researchers used beagle surrogates because there were not enough female wolves in captivity for the scientists' experiments. Luckily, dogs share enough DNA with wolves for the hybrid pregnancy to gestate successfully. Maya now lives with her surrogate mother at a Sinogene lab in Xuzhou, eastern China, but the wolf pup will eventually be transferred to Harbin Polarland to live with other Arctic wolves. However, the park's keepers believe she will have to be slowly introduced to the rest of the pack because of her isolated upbringing, according to Global Times. Sinogene also revealed that a second Arctic wolf clone, created using DNA from an unknown male, was due to be born Thursday Sept. 22. However, there have been no confirmed reports so far of the pup's birth. Maya shortly after being born. (Image credit: Sinogene Biotechnology Co.) (opens in new tab) The company also announced a new partnership with the Beijing Wildlife Park to clone more captive species in the future, although no specific projects have yet been announced, according to Global Times. In 2019, Sinogene was also involved with a project that produced six identical German shepherd clones, which were then inducted into the Beijing police force, according to CBS News(opens in new tab). Cloning endangered animals Despite reports from Global Times and other media outlets, Arctic wolves, which are a subspecies of gray wolves (Canis lupus) are not an endangered species. Instead, they are listed as least concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature(opens in new tab), though climate change is likely to severely disrupt their food supply in the wild in coming decades, according to WWF(opens in new tab). But endangered species have been cloned by scientists before. In 2020, scientists from U.S.-based company Revive & Restore successfully cloned an endangered black-footed ferret (Mustela nigripes). That same year, the company also successfully cloned an endangered Przewalski’s horse (Equus przewalskii), and their technicians are now attempting to revive the extinct passenger pigeon (Ectopistes migratorius) using cloning technology. "Cloning is a drastically underutilized tool," Ben Novak, lead scientist at Revive & Restore, told Live Science in an email. "In the future, it could be a literal lifeline for species that become rarer or worse, go extinct." Przewalski's horses are one of the endangered species that have already been cloned. (Image credit: Shutterstock) (opens in new tab) The main benefit of cloning endangered species is that it maintains the amount of genetic diversity within a species, Novak said. If the clones can reproduce with other non-cloned individuals, this gives threatened species a fighting chance to adapt to the selection pressures that are driving them towards extinction, he added. Another benefit of cloning is that it can be used in conjunction with existing captive-breeding programs, especially when surrogate mothers from other species are used, Novak said. Rather than taking animals from the wild to create a back-up po[CENSORED]tion in captivity, scientists can take genetic samples from wild animals and create clones in the lab using more readily available surrogates, as they did with Maya and her beagle mother. These genetic backups can then be introduced into the wild to replenish struggling po[CENSORED]tions, Novak said. "For mammals, it appears that two species must share a common ancestor less than 5 million years ago" for the surrogate pregnancy to be successful, Novak said. This opens up the possibility of reviving extinct species by using closely related living surrogate species, he added. Related: Is it possible to clone a dinosaur? However, there are also some major limitations to cloning. One of the main issues is that not all animals can be successfully cloned yet. To date, only mammals, fish, amphibians and a single insect species have been cloned using SCNT, Novak said. For birds, reptiles and egg-laying mammals, like platypuses and echidnas, SCNT does not work because the eggs do not properly develop, he added. Cloning also has a very low success rate compared with artificial insemination or in-vitro fertilization, Novak said. As with Maya the wolf pup, researchers often have to create hundreds of embryos and successfully implant them in multiple surrogates for just one animal to be born, which can make cloning an expensive process.Due to these high costs, the emergence of private companies like Sinogene and Revive & Restore will likely play a key role in the future of conservation cloning. Historically, most cloning research has been done by universities that are underfunded, Novak said. Therefore, "the partnership of for-profit companies with conservation programs is key to turning cloning from a seldom-researched technique into a valuable conservation tool." For cloning advocates, the birth of Maya is another step in the right direction for this area of research. "It's great to see more wildlife cloning work being done," Novak said. "I hope all these recent achievements in cloning show the world that cloning is ready to use as a beneficial tool for wildlife conservation." Originally published on Live Science. SURSA

There are many misconceptions surrounding birth control and the options and measures available to ensure it. While there are many different contraception choices, a lot of people are unaware of what to choose and when; it does not help either that there is little awareness about sexual and reproductive health. It is always a wise idea to reach out to an expert who can guide a couple as to what would work best for them if they are looking to delay a pregnancy. One of the most commonly-asked questions about a birth control method is if a man can stop using a condom during sexual intercourse if their partner is on a birth control pill. Both of these are po[CENSORED]r contraception methods around the world. But, according to Dr Nagaveni R, consultant – obstetrician and gynaecologist, Motherhood Hospitals, HRBR Layout, Bangalore, they work differently.“A lot of people, who start using a birth control pill, wonder if they need to use a condom to provide extra protection against any unwanted pregnancy. The answer to this would be that while birth control pills are 99.7 per cent effective against pregnancy, they do not provide any protection against a sexually transmitted disease (STD) or any other infection,” the doctor explains, adding that condoms act as a barrier to STDs or infections.“Moreover, there are high chances your body will take some time to adjust to a pill once you start consuming it and the results will take time to show. So, it becomes even more important that you use a condom to protect against pregnancy in the initial few days after taking the pill.”What are the specific contraceptive uses of both? Dr Nagaveni explains that birth control pills contain “small quantities of hormones, such as estrogen and progesterone that prevent pregnancy in the body by stopping ovulation”.“In the absence of ovulation, it is impossible to get pregnant,” she states, adding that these hormonal contraceptives also alter the cervical mucus, which makes it difficult for the sperm to penetrate the egg. “These pills are also effective in altering the lining of the uterus that makes it difficult for an implantation to occur. Condoms, on the other hand, act as a physical barrier and do not let sperm to enter the vagina, thereby preventing fertilization.” Prevention of STIs and STDs As mentioned earlier, condoms are one of the best ways to protect yourself from an unwanted pregnancy, but also against any sexually transmitted infections or diseases. “The latex condom, which is used to cover a penis, provides protection against most STDs or STIs. Physical protection is a good means to practise safe sex,” the doctor concludes. SURSA

Japan bid farewell to former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in an elaborate state funeral Tuesday, despite public opposition to the cost of the event as the country grapples with their late leader’s legacy. Abe, Japan’s longest-serving prime minister, was shot dead during a campaign speech in Nara in July, stunning a nation where gun violence is extremely rare. More than 4,300 guests attended the service at the Nippon Budokan Arena in Tokyo, including foreign dignitaries such as US Vice President Kamala Harris, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. In this file photo, former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe speaks to the media as he arrives in Tokyo on Sept. 16, 2020. Shinzo Abe, Japan's longest-serving prime minister, defined politics for a generation Abe’s ashes were carried into the venue, where the government played a video tribute honoring his life and career. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida then delivered a memorial address, praising Abe’s “courage” and dedication. Other government figures including former Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga – who was Abe’s right hand man for many years – also gave remarks, before attendees laid flower offerings and bowed in turn. Other ceremonial rites on the program include an honor guard, gun salute, and musical performances, before a government reception for visiting foreign dignitaries. Police ramped up security for the event, with public broadcaster NHK reporting that about 20,000 police officers were deployed to keep the peace. But altercations broke out anyway between police and demonstrators outside the funeral venue. Abe makes a street speech for party candidates in Nara, Japan, before he was shot on Friday, July 8. Abe is seen on the ground after being shot in Nara. Divisions over legacy On Tuesday morning, crowds of people lined up outside designated memorial sites to leave flowers and pay their final respects to Abe, who dominated Japanese politics for a generation. But as they mourned, thousands of others took to the streets in anti-funeral protests across Tokyo, illustrating a deep public divide over the occasion, Japan’s first state funeral for a Japanese leader since 1967. Some crowds chanted slogans as they marched near the funeral venue, waving banners that urged a stop to the proceedings. Protest leaders rallied the crowd through loudspeakers, and a van rolled past with music blasting from a boom box. The protests grew tense at times, with several loud confrontations and scuffles between demonstrators and police. Abe’s death sent shock waves through Japan and the international community, with thousands of mourners gathering in Tokyo in July as his private funeral took place. But in the months since his assassination, the outpouring of grief has given way to a growing discontent. Abe’s state funeral comes as the country grapples with rising inflation and anger stemming from revelations that half of Japan’s ruling party members had ties with the controversial Unification Church which has faced backlash over fundraising practices. Some critics have also pointed to Abe’s more unpo[CENSORED]r policies while in office as a reason for the shift in mood, and questioned why so much taxpayer money is going to the state funeral – which will cost some $12 million (1.66 billion yen) – at a time of acute economic strain. “It was a tragedy that Abe was gunned down and lost his life, but we shouldn’t make him a hero out of this tragedy,” one protester, Shinsaku Nohira, told CNN at a recent anti-state funeral demonstration outside Japan’s parliament. “At least half of Japan’s po[CENSORED]tion is against this state funeral, so I don’t want the government’s messaging to get out there, I want people out there to know that there are citizens in Japan who are opposing this event.” An opinion poll by NHK earlier in September showed that 57% of respondents opposed the state funeral, compared to 32% who supported it – and the rest said they didn’t know, or declined to answer. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has tried to appease the public, saying a state funeral for Abe was “fitting” given his achievements as former leader. The ceremony is not meant to “force people to mourn” or to become a “political issue,” he said in August. Abe’s tenure and assassination Abe held office for two separate terms, during which he transformed Japan’s security posture, raising questions over the country’s status as a pacifist nation, and passed a major security legislation in 2015 that expanded what Japan could do militarily to support the US. He also was a prominent figure on the world stage, cultivating strong ties with Washington and seeking better relations with Beijing – while also trying to counter Chinese expansion in the region by uniting Pacific allies. One of his final successes in office was securing the 2020 Tokyo Olympics – though the Covid-19 pandemic forced the competition to be postponed to 2021. Tomohiro Ohsumi/Getty Images After stepping down in 2020, citing health reasons, Abe remained active in politics, often campaigning for his party – which is what he was doing at the time of his assassination. NHK reported in July that the suspected shooter, Tetsuya Yamagami, had targeted the former Prime Minister because he believed Abe’s grandfather – another former Japanese leader – had helped the expansion of a religious group he held a grudge against. CNN has not been able to independently confirm what group Yamagami was referring to, or links between Abe and any group the suspect harbored hatred towards. It also said that the church had received a message of support from Abe at an event it organized, but that the former prime minister was not a registered church member, nor did he sit on its advisory board. The female South African cycad weevil have a long snout relative to its body size. (Image credit: Trustees of the Natural History Museum London) Animals come in all shapes and sizes, from the smallest beetle to the largest whale. With such a vast variety of creatures, which one of Earth's millions of animal species has the biggest head? And which of these many species has the largest head relative to its body size? Blue whales (Balaenoptera musculus) are the largest known animals that have ever existed. The largest blue whales (the females) can stretch up to 110 feet (34 meters) long from snout to fluke, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries(opens in new tab). That's 2.5 yellow school buses end to end. At 18 feet (5.5 m) long, a blue whale’s skull, which makes up less than a quarter of its body, is the scaffolding for the largest known animal head on the planet. Scientists think that blue whales — and other whale species, such as bowhead whales (Balaena mysticetus), whose skulls can measure up to 16.5 feet(opens in new tab) (5 m) — evolved huge heads and mouths so they could eat as much as possible in one gulp. Blue whales, bowhead whales and other baleen whales consume prey by "lunge-feeding," in which they accelerate forward with open mouths and engulf as much prey and water as they can. Then, the whales push the seawater out of their mouths through the bristle-like baleen, which catch krill and other prey. Bowhead whales actually win the prize for largest mouth in the animal kingdom: A bowhead whale's mouth can take up 25 feet(opens in new tab) (7.6 m) of the whale's entire 65-foot-long (20 m) body. Related: Which animal has the largest brain relative to its body size? The skeleton of Hope, a female blue whale on display in the Natural History Museum, London. (Image credit: Laura Geggel) It’s more challenging to work out which animal has the largest head relative to its body size. The animal kingdom is vast, and there may be millions of species that scientists have yet to discover. There are also animals like octopuses — such as dumbo octopuses (Grimpoteuthis) — whose bodies aren't clearly laid out in a way that makes it obvious what a "head" even is. Octopuses have a head-like structure called a mantle, plus eight squiggly arms. But their mantles store all their organs, plus a brain (and each arm has its own nerve cells that give the arms a sort of mind of their own). From the outside, the mantle looks like a head, but because it holds not just their brain but also the rest of their organs, can it be considered a head? But the insect world might hold the answer as to which species has the biggest head relative to body size. Bruno de Medeiros, assistant curator of pollinating insects at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, suggested several insects that could be contenders. De Medeiros first suggested insects with "big, bulky heads full of jaw muscles," such as soldier termites or leaf-cutter ants, whose heads account for around half their bodies. Then there are the insects with "very wide heads," de Medeiros said, like stalk-eyed flies(opens in new tab) in the family Diopsidae. The eyes help males "in male-to-male contests to pretend they are bigger than their opponents," he said. In the genus Cyrtodiopsis(opens in new tab), some of the flies' heads are twice as wide as their bodies are long. RELATED MYSTERIES —Which animals have the longest arms? —Which animal has the largest ears? —What is the most genetically diverse species? But perhaps the clear winners in the insect world are female South American cycad weevils (Antliarhinus zamiae). These weevils are named for the plants they pollinate — cycads — which have thrived since the dinosaur era and look sort of like short, stubby palm trees. "[Cycad weevils] have this snout that can be over two times as long as the rest of the body," de Medeiros said. 'Snout' in this case is a layman's term for the structure, called a rostrum, protruding from the insect's head. While the weevil’s body (minus the head) generally measures around 0.39 inches (1 centimeter), its rostrum alone can stretch to up to 0.79 inches (2 cm). The rostrum hosts the weevil's eyes and antennae and carries mandibles (its mouthparts) at the very tip. Jaw muscles at the base of the rostrum control the mandibles, which the weevil uses to eat seeds or bore holes into plants to lay eggs in. There may be another animal out there with a bigger head relative to its body size, but for now, the cycad weevil takes the crown. Originally published on Live Science. Washington (CNN)As allies of then-President Donald Trump made a final push to overturn the election in late-December 2020, one of the key operatives behind the effort briefed then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows about his attempts to gain access to voting systems in key battleground states, starting with Arizona and Georgia, according to text messages obtained by CNN. Phil Waldron, an early proponent of various election-related conspiracy theories, texted Meadows on December 23 that an Arizona judge had dismissed a lawsuit filed by friendly GOP lawmakers there. The suit demanded state election officials hand over voting machines and other election equipment, as part of the hunt for evidence to support Trump's baseless claims of voter fraud. In relaying the news to Meadows, Waldron said the decision would allow opponents to engage in "delay tactics" preventing Waldron and his associates from immediately accessing machines. Waldron also characterized Arizona as "our lead domino we were counting on to start the cascade," referring to similar efforts in other states like Georgia. "Pathetic," Meadows responded. The messages, which have not been previously reported, shed new light on how Waldron's reach extended into the highest levels of the White House and the extent to which Meadows was kept abreast of plans for accessing voting machines, a topic sources tell CNN, and court documents suggest, is of particular interest to state and federal prosecutors probing efforts to overturn the 2020 election. The messages also provide an early window into how an effort to gain access to voting machines through the courts and state legislatures morphed into a more clandestine endeavor that is now the subject of multiple criminal investigations. Despite attempts to distance himself from the more dubious attempts to keep Trump in office, the messages underscore how Meadows was an active participant, engaging with someone who former White House officials have described as a fringe outsider peddling outlandish ideas. Waldron, a retired Army colonel with ties to Trump's one-time national security adviser Michael Flynn, has emerged as a key figure in the broader scheme to overturn the election and was the architect of several extreme proposals for doing so. That includes sending Meadows a PowerPoint presentation outlining a plan for overturning the election, which was later used to brief Republican lawmakers, titled, in part: "Options for 6 Jan." Waldron also helped draft language for an executive order directing the Pentagon and Department of Homeland Security to seize voting machines on behalf of the White House. Waldron at a hearing in front of Michigan lawmakers in December 2020. Trump never signed the order, siding with White House lawyers who insisted the idea was legally perilous. But there is evidence that his closest allies, including Meadows, continued to entertain similar pitches from Waldron in the lead-up to January 6 as they sought to validate conspiracy theories about foreign election interference. Criminal prosecutors in Georgia are demanding Waldron and Meadows testify as part of ongoing grand jury investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election results there. Waldron is also engaged in a months-long legal fight with the January 6 Committee, which has subpoenaed his cellphone data. Meadows recently complied with a Justice Department subpoena to hand over information pertaining to the 2020 election including these text messages. Recent subpoenas from the Justice Department related to the same probe indicate investigators are seeking information about claims of election fraud and efforts to persuade government officials to "change or affect" the election results, "or delay certification of the results," according to one subpoena obtained by CNN, exactly the kinds of activities Waldron is known to have engaged in. Waldron and his attorneys did not respond to several requests for comment. Meadows' attorney also did not respond to CNN's request for comment. 'Chasing election machines for years' Before he retired from the Army as a colonel in 2017, Waldron specialized in psychological operations and worked alongside Michael Flynn at the Defense Intelligence Agency, according to his military records. In numerous interviews, people familiar with Waldron's background tell CNN that for years he has been obsessed with the idea that US voting machines are vulnerable to foreign hacking. "Waldron had been chasing election machines for years," said one former US official with knowledge of his efforts. New footage confirms fake Trump elector spent hours inside Georgia elections office day it was breached New footage confirms fake Trump elector spent hours inside Georgia elections office day it was breached It wasn't until Trump started falsely claiming that the election had been stolen from him that Waldron had a chance to put his theories to use. Trump's inner circle was warned by several Republican lawmakers that without evidence of fraud, their plan to subvert the Electoral College would almost certainly fail, text messages obtained by the House Select Committee investigating the US Capitol attack show. In the days after the election, Waldron quickly emerged as one of the Trump legal team's favorite "expert witnesses" on election fraud. He was a near constant presence during Giuliani's road show in the weeks after the election when he and his team of Trump lawyers traveled around the country to convince state officials that the outcome had been tainted by widespread voter fraud. During one December 2020 hearing in Georgia, Waldron appeared alongside Giuliani and conservative attorney John Eastman, where he pushed unfounded claims about Dominion voting machines and similarly alleged that fraudulent ballots had tainted the election results. Those familiar with his role in the effort also described Waldron as being in charge of "operational planning" and working directly with Rudy Giuliani on gaining access to voting systems in states where Trump lost. "Waldron was responsible for planning and overseeing execution" of efforts to access voting systems," said one of those sources. Trump-backed GOP pick for Michigan AG has been a vocal supporter of election lies. Emails show just how far he's gone for the cause Trump-backed GOP pick for Michigan AG has been a vocal supporter of election lies. Emails show just how far he's gone for the cause That was especially true in Antrim County, Michigan, where Waldron and his team of pro-Trump operatives gained access to voting systems there in late 2020 -- producing a since-debunked report based on their findings that Trump repeatedly held-up as proof of election fraud even after it was dismissed by his own top advisers. The Antrim County breach is now the subject of a criminal investigation by authorities in Michigan. Among those under investigation are Matthew DePerno, the Republican nominee to become Michigan's attorney general, and a number of people Waldron worked with after the 2020 election, including Doug Logan, the CEO of Cyber Ninjas. Arizona audit As Trump's lawyers worked to enlist sympathetic state and local officials to help keep Trump in office, Waldron often served as a key liaison, according to emails and text messages obtained by the group American Oversight and shared with CNN. That was particularly true in Arizona, where Waldron was in direct communication with a number of GOP state officials and lawmakers about producing evidence of fraud. In the weeks before his December 23 text to Meadows, Waldron exchanged nearly a dozen emails with state GOP officials in Arizona, discussing various plans for gaining access to voting systems or ballots from certain counties and pitching himself to analyze the election data for evidence of fraud, according to the documents reviewed by CNN. On December 11, Waldron sent an email to three Arizona state GOP lawmakers who were pushing to overturn the election, suggesting a member of his team could "take a hard drive" to county elections offices, upload relevant voter data and "get the files to us." "This would be the fastest and most transparent way to give you the direct evidence you need to either pursue or close the issue," he wrote, referring to ongoing efforts to upend the election results in Arizona. "We are happy to consult with you to answer questions or coordinate a 'way ahead,'" Waldron added. Two days later, Waldron's attorney and business associate, Charles Bundren, sent one of those same Arizona lawmakers draft language for subpoenas seeking electronically stored voting information. The document is nearly identical to subpoenas Arizona state Republicans ultimately filed demanding election officials hand over voting machines, emails obtained by the group American Oversight and provided to CNN show. After an Arizona judge ultimately rejected those subpoenas on December 23, Waldron reached out to Meadows about the decision, according to the newly revealed text messages. Waldron texted Meadows again on December 28, 2020, suggesting a member of his team had analyzed election data from "several counties" and pointing to two specific examples of what he called the "Southern steal" -- an apparent reference to voting irregularities that, he alleged, had changed the election outcome in those localities. "OK," Meadows responded, acknowledging Waldron's message. Ongoing efforts It remains unclear if there are additional texts between Waldron and Meadows beyond the messages exchanged on December 23 and December 28, in part because both men have sought to block the January 6 committee from obtaining their cellphone data. Over the past year, Trump allies have continued to push baseless claims about widespread fraud and sought access to voting systems in various states. Waldron has remained a central figure in that effort. Waldron poses for a photo at his distillery, One Shot Distillery and Brewery, in Dripping Springs, Texas, U.S., December 2, 2021. Emails obtained by CNN connect Waldron directly to the 2021 partisan audit in Maricopa County, Arizona. After his work in Antrim County, Michigan, Waldron pushed GOP state officials in Arizona to hire his team to conduct the audit. But Arizona officials expressed concerns after Waldron's Antrim County report was thoroughly debunked. Instead, with Waldron's endorsement, they hired Cyber Ninjas to conduct the Maricopa audit, which ultimately proved that Biden won the county. Waldron remained heavily involved, emails obtained by CNN show. It's unclear whether Waldron was paid for his work as Arizona Republicans have fought to keep that information from coming out publicly. Emails have emerged that show contractors connected to Waldron were paid hundreds of thousands of dollars by America Voting Rights Foundation, a Trump-affiliated PAC created last summer. Over the past year, Waldron was also listed as a key participant for a series of "election integrity" planning sessions involving other notable Trump allies like Flynn and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell. Lindell and another known associate of Waldron, Conan Hayes, are subjects of a separate FBI investigation focused on an election system breach in Colorado. In April, Waldron sued the House January 6 committee to block their efforts to obtain his cellphone data. Waldron's own lawyer, Charles Bundren, has taken steps to shield his own communications from the committee. Court documents show that Bundren stepped aside as Waldron's primary attorney in the case against the committee last month and joined the lawsuit as a co-plaintiff, arguing the panel is seeking cellphone data that could expose the breadth of his own contacts with others involved in efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Bundren did not respond to several requests for comment. CNN's Jamie Gangel contributed to this report. SURSA
