  3. Due to its characteristics, the French bulldog is one of the dogs that can suffer the most from health problems, warn experts The flat snout, the flattened face, the pointed ears and its size are just some of the factors that have positioned the French bulldog as one of the most po[CENSORED]r dogs. There are also those who see in this breed a peculiar grace that distinguishes them. This has been reflected in a high demand in countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States and Spain. To give a better angle on the size of this situation, just look at the latest record of the most po[CENSORED]r breeds according to the American Kennel Club. In this list, the French bulldog ranks second. It may interest you: Norway prohibits the breeding of two breeds of dogs as it is considered animal suffering Given that each year it seems that the breed is better positioned, studies around the French bulldog have sought to know in greater detail what exactly their health condition is. Unfortunately, these works have only shown that this canine breed is one of the most at risk due to its delicate situation. French Bulldog: The Cost of Po[CENSORED]rity Contrary to what the name suggests, the origin of these dogs is not only linked to France, but also to the United Kingdom. Its official recognition came in 1906, when the Kennel Club added this dog to its listings. Since then, the breed has been positioning itself as one of the most requested by owners. The French bulldog, due to its physical characteristics, is part of the brachycephalic dogs. This refers to the fact that these are breeds with a different skull than the rest. Among what distinguishes them are the soft palate, short nasal bones and reduced orifices, small head and flattened face. It may interest you: 8 common diseases in dogs and how they manifest A first study on this matter was carried out by a group of scientists from the Royal Veterinary College in the United Kingdom. The results were based on data collected from 2,228 French bulldogs at 304 different clinics. These were published in Canine Medicine and Genetics. This research work found that the French bulldog has a strong tendency to develop certain health problems. Scientists noted that ear infections, diarrhea and conjunctivitis are among the most common ailments. On the other hand, due to its physical characteristics, this breed can also suffer from respiratory and skin problems. The second study, from the same institution, highlights the problems detected at the beginning. This time the researchers compared 2,781 French bulldogs with 21,850 non-French bulldogs. They took as a reference the 43 most common ailments in both groups of dogs. The result showed that the first group was more affected due to their body composition. โ€œEXTREME BODY TRAITS SUCH AS FLAT FACE AND LARGE EYES, WHICH ARE OFTEN PERCEIVED AS โ€˜PRETTYโ€™ OR โ€˜NORMALโ€™ FOR THE BREED AND, WORRYINGLY, โ€˜DESIRABLE,โ€™ PROMOTE HEALTH PROBLEMS,โ€ RESEARCHERS MENTION FOR ANIMALโ€™S HEALTH. The task is to raise awareness about this problem For the second study it is essential to carry out research that helps the race. The health risks of these dogs is a reality that must be taken into account. What is achieved with works like the one developed by these researchers is a greater awareness of how these animals are living. Measures have already been taken in this regard. A BBC documentary called Pedigree Dogs Exposed made many people aware of the problems with brachycephalic breeds. This prompted the UK Kennel Club to do special reviews of these dogs. In addition, in 2016, a petition signed by more than 40,000 veterinary professionals led to the creation of a group focused on improving the health of these animals. โ€œSOCIAL MEDIA AND THE INFLUENCE OF CELEBRITIES HAVE REALLY BOOSTED THE PO[CENSORED]RITY OF FRENCH BULLDOGS IN RECENT YEARS, BUT UNFORTUNATELY THEIR โ€˜CUTEโ€™ CHARACTERISTICS CAN MASK A LOT OF HEALTH PROBLEMS, WHICH MAY REQUIRE EXPENSIVE TREATMENT. THERE IS GROWING CONCERN IN THE VETERINARY PROFESSION THAT MANY OWNERS ARE NOT AWARE OF THESE PROBLEMS WHEN THEY DECIDE TO BRING A FRENCHIE INTO THE FAMILY,โ€ JUSTINE SHOTTON, PRESIDENT OF THE BRITISH VETERINARY ASSOCIATION, WARNS ANIMALโ€™S HEALTH. https://www.ngenespanol.com/animales/bulldog-frances-una-de-las-razas-con-mayores-riesgos-de-salud/
  4. Porsche is preparing to introduce a second generation of the wildly successful Porsche Taycan EV โ€“ and it will be twinned with an electric version of the Porsche Panamera as part of a new โ€œelectrified luxuryโ€ plan under which up to six electric models will be ushered in by the end of this decade. Both new EVs are based on a sporting version of the Volkswagen Groupโ€™s Scalable Systems Platform (SSP), which is being developed by Porsche. The so-called SSP Sport structure adopts the backbone of the SSP architecture set to be used by other more volume-orientated electric Volkswagen Group models. However, it will be combined with what have been described to Autocar as โ€œPorsche-specific modulesโ€. Among the key architectural developments being pushed by Porsche for the new SSP Sport platform is a low cabin floor, courtesy of a slimline battery pack, and rear footwells (or foot garages, as theyโ€™re known at Porsche) similar to those of the J1 platform used by the existing Taycan. These are also described as being crucial to providing the electric Panamera with packaging comparable with the current Panameraโ€™s and a low centre of gravity for optimised dynamics. The electric Panamera will be sold alongside todayโ€™s combustion-engined and plug-in hybrid Panamera models, which are based on Porscheโ€™s MSB platform. The engineering for the electric Panamera is twinned with that of the new Taycan, due out in 2027. The Panamera EV is still in the infancy of development, but the suggestions are that it will have a wheelbase and overall length similar to those of the existing long-wheelbase Panamera sold in China (3100mm and 5199mm). That would place it in direct competition with the likes of the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 and Lucid Air in terms of size. By comparison, the existing Taycan has a 2900mm wheelbase and runs to 4963mm in length and the follow-up is likely to be similar โ€“ so the two models will be differentiated in size. Although the electric Panamera and second-generation Taycan will be based on the SSP Sport platform, the new electric Porsche Macan and Porsche Cayenne SUVs will use the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which Porsche is developing with Audi. The first car based on the SSP Sport platform, though, will be Porscheโ€™s recently announced seventh model line: a five-metre-plus, seven-seat SUV thatโ€™s confirmed to make its debut โ€œaround the middle of the decadeโ€. Codenamed K1 (see right), itโ€™s scheduled for production at Porscheโ€™s Leipzig factory in Germany. Thatโ€™s also the site that Porsche sources tip to receive the contract to produce the Panamera EV. The upmarket electric liftback is set to offer the choice of either a single or dual-motor drivetrain. It will also gain a further-developed 800V battery with what has been described to Autocar as more energy-efficient cell technology and a higher-silicon-content anode than that used by Porsche today. โ€œWeโ€™re targeting higher-margin segments in particular and aim to tap into new sales opportunities in this way,โ€ said Porsche CEO Oliver Blume on the decision to build on the success of the Taycan with an electric version of the larger Panamera. The two new electric Porsche models will share key structural, drivetrain and chassis components as well as a newly developed electrical architecture thatโ€™s designed to support level-three autonomous driving functionality, 5G-enabled digital features and an operating system developed in partnership with the Cariad software division of Porscheโ€™s parent company, the Volkswagen Group. The electric Panamera will be sold alongside a facelifted version of the existing second-generation model, which will be launched in 2023. Itโ€™s planned to be in production until 2030 on an extended model cycle, according to Porsche sources, providing customers with the choice of traditional ICE, plug-in hybrid or electric power, depending on the market and regulatory framework. The new zero-emissions Panamera is set to receive similar styling to its ICE and PHEV siblings. This approach mirrors that of the Macan and Cayenne, which are set to go electric in 2024 and 2025 respectively. โ€œThere will be some unique design elements within the front and rear ends,โ€ said a highly placed Porsche source. โ€œHowever, the core Panamera design will be the same for both.โ€ At this early stage, itโ€™s unclear whether Porsche plans to mirror the strategy of the existing Panamera and Taycan by offeringtwo distinct body styles โ€“ liftback and estate โ€“ for its latest electric model. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-panamera-and-taycan-lead-porsches-ev-future
  5. UN nuclear experts have made their first inspection of the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia power plant in Ukraine and are to maintain a presence there. International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Grossi said the "plant and physical integrity of the plant" had been "violated several times". The inspectors were accompanied to the plant by Russian soldiers after a risky journey delayed by shelling. Russia and Ukraine accused each other of trying to sabotage the mission. Zaporizhzhia, in southern Ukraine, is Europe's largest nuclear plant. It was occupied by Russia soon after it invaded Ukraine in February. Ukrainian staff who continue to operate the plant say Russian troops have used it as a military base and that workers are in effect held at gunpoint. How risky is the stand-off over Ukraine's nuclear plant? Preparing for the worst at Ukraine nuclear plant "We are not going anywhere. The IAEA is now there, it is at the plant and it is not moving - it's going to stay there," Mr Grossi said, once he had crossed back into Ukrainian-held territory. But he did not specify how many people would be staying and for how long. Russia's Interfax news agency reported that around eight to 12 inspectors would stay on, while Ukraine's state nuclear company Energoatom said five inspectors would stay. The inspectors hope to assess the state of the plant and talk to Ukrainian workers under Russian control. Mr Grossi said that battles taking place near the plant were "not going to stop" the inspection. "There were moments where fire was obvious, heavy machine gun, artillery mortars, at two or three times [it was] really very concerning, I would say, for all of us," he said. The IAEA's former chief inspector Olli Heinonen has told the BBC that if interviews do take place, workers are unlikely to be as "open as they would like to be" over the risks to the safety of themselves and their families. During his nightly address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he hoped the inspectors would "draw objective conclusions," but lamented the absence of international journalists among the delegation. "We have clear evidence that Russia did a lot of cynical things to deceive the mission," he added. "The occupiers forced people to lie to the IAEA representatives - to hand over some papers, sign something, say something." Meanwhile, Mr Zelensky's chief of staff accused Russia of trying to "wreck" the mission by shelling the nearby town of Enerhodar, which is under Moscow's control, and the facility. "Criminals must be stopped," Andriy Yermak wrote on Telegram, accusing Russia of acting like a "terrorist state". Russia refuted this, stating that 60 Ukrainian "saboteurs" who attempted to recapture the plant by crossing the river on Thursday morning were killed. The EU is giving more than five million anti-radiation tablets to Ukraine, as fears grow of an accident at the plant. While recent fighting in the area has caused some damage to the plant, so far there has not been any recorded increase in radiation levels in the area. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-62757024
