Filming has already wrapped on the fifth season of Cobra Kai, but we'll be keeping track of everything you need to know about Cobra Kai season 5 on Netflix. Cobra Kai season 5 is coming to Netflix in 2022. With filming already wrapped, we’re now waiting for Netflix to announce a release date, which we’re estimating will be announced for Summer 2022 or just after that. We’ll be keeping track of everything you need to know about Cobra Kai season 5 on Netflix. As far as continuations go Cobra Kai has already become one of Netflix’s most successful, comparable to the likes of Lucifer and Money Heist. The series already had a large and loyal fanbase from its time as a YouTube Original series, but once the series made the jump to Netflix, its po[CENSORED]rity skyrocketed. Cobra Kai is a continuation of the beloved The Karate Kid franchise and takes place 34 years after the events of The Karate Kid. What is the production status of Cobra Kai season 5? Official Production Status: Post-Production (Last Updated: 03/01/2022) Josh Heald has stated that the writer’s room convened to write the fifth season as early as July 2021. Filming began on September 20th, 2021, and had ended by December 19th, 2021. In December 2021 we previously reported that filming had already wrapped on the fifth season of Cobra Kai, in Atlanta, Georgia, and is now in post-production. When is the Cobra Kai season 5 release date? Netflix has yet to confirm when the fifth season of Cobra Kai will be released, however, with filming over we can begin to speculate. The fourth season was filmed between January 20th, 2021, and April 15th, 2021. It was later released in December 2021. If the fifth season was to follow a similar schedule we could see a July 2022 or August 2022 release. Josh Heald has said that he predicts that the show will be releasing on a similar pattern to the previous two seasons in interviews but stated the decision ultimately comes down to Netflix. What to expect from Cobra Kai Season 5 Terry Silver takes over Cobra Kai and the Valley With Kreese framed for the assault of Sting Ray, Terry Silver is free to completely take over Cobra Kai and spread the vision he’s had for the dojo. With multiple new Cobra Kai dojos expected to appear all over the Valley, expect a significant rise in new students, which could lead to hostilities between Cobra Kai and the students of rival dojos. Hurwitz has stated that in season 5 we get to see Silver’s plans “fully realized” adding that he’ll be expanding the Cobra Kai franchise. Miyagi Do goes to war with Cobra Kai (Again) Unable to come to terms with the dishonorable way Cobra Kai set out to win the All Valley Tournament, Daniel LaRusso will go against his own word and continue teaching students at his Miyagi-Do dojo. To aid his fight against Cobra Kai, Daniel has enlisted the help of Chozen Toguchi, his old enemy and new friend, who is currently the sensei of Miyagi-Do karate in Okinawa. In an interview with TV Line, executive producer Josh Heald had the following to say about Chozen’s upcoming return in Cobra Kai season 5: We obviously know that Chozen’s coming back into the fold, and Daniel, who we find at the ultimate depth of his loss, is feeling defeated and feeling like he made a deal with the devil. He’s realizing that to allow Miyagi-Do to be extinguished this way doesn’t sit well. There are times where the fight has to change, and what better moment than for Chozen to come back into this story and to lean into that part of Miyagi-Do. Chozen is somebody who ties into the more aggressive past where fighting wasn’t about a contest, it was about life and death. He still feels like he owes Daniel some help, and he wants to make amends even though Daniel has forgiven him. From that alone, I feel like audiences can infer the energy with which Season 5 is going to begin. There are quite a bit of storylines that start spinning very fast and very aggressively as we enter next season. Anthony Learns Karate? After Anthony’s relentless bullying of new-kid Kenny, he tried to make amends with the Cobra Kai student at the All Valley tournament, only for his bullied state his intent to become the bully when they graduate to high school. Daniel was prepared to begin teaching Anthony karate, and in order to defend himself, against Kenny, Anthony may have no choice but to learn Karate. Robby and Tory to leave Cobra Kai? Despite switching sides, Robby has tried to find the middle ground between the philosophies of Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai. His tragic realization that his mentoring of Kenny has led to the creation of a bully, and one who intends to bully his ex-girlfriend’s little brother, has led the young man to seek the support of his dad. Johnny will definitely encourage Robby to leave Cobra Kai, however, feeling guilty, Robby may stay with the dojo in order to make up for his mistakes with tutoring Kenny. As for Tory, the woman’s champion of the All Valley overheard Terry paying off the referee, which has completely tainted her victory. Just like Robby, she will find herself at a crossroads which may lead her to leave Cobra Kai. Miguel finds his father Unbeknownst to Miguel, he is completely unaware that his biological father doesn’t know he exists. On top of being a “bad man” if Miguel finds his father he could be opening a door in his life which he can never close again. Johnny intends to go to Mexico City in order to find his young student, but knowing Johnny he’ll get himself into all kinds of trouble, especially if there is a confrontation with Miguel’s father. If Johnny can convince Miguel to return home, expect Miguel’s father to be following just behind. Kreese behind bars Kreese has been framed for the assault of Sting Ray, and ironically the only person who may be able to save the Cobra Kai sensei is former student Johnny Lawrence. Johnny was the victim of an assault by Terry Silver, so once he gets back from Mexico he may be the only hope Kreese has of getting out of jail. Casting News Despite the fifth season already wrapping up filming we’re yet to learn of any new cast members, in particular, the casting of Miguel’s unnamed father. For the past few seasons’ finales, we’ve always had hints that some returning characters are on the way. For season 5, no hints came but given Terry Silver will be returning, some have speculated Terry’s old friends including Mike Barnes and Sean Kanan’s characters from Karate Kid 3. Time will tell whether we actually see them appear. THE SITE

Melinda French Gates says she is open to dating again after her divorce from Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. The philanthropist, 57, reflected on her divorce from Bill Gates, 66, during a CBS Mornings interview with Gayle King. French Gates said that she looks forward to this new chapter in all areas of her life, including dating. When asked by King if she is open to falling in love again, French Gates answered with a nod and a smile that she is “definitely” open to dating. “I hope that happens for me again,” she said. “I’m dipping my toe in that water a little bit,” adding that the dating pool is very “interesting” at this point. “Why not?” French Gates said. The former couple finalised their divorce in August 2021 after 27 years of marriage. French Gates revealed in the wide-ranging interview that the separation came after she could no longer “trust what we had”. Bill Gates had previously admitted to his infidelity during their marriage. French Gates also claimed that her ex-husband’s friendship with child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein contributed to their divorce. However, it was not just one thing that led to their separation. “It wasn’t one moment or one specific thing that happened,” French Gates said. “There just came a point in time where there was enough there that I realised it just wasn’t healthy and I couldn’t trust what we had.” However, the billionaire philanthropist is excited for what the future holds. “I started on this journey of healing and I feel like I’m starting to get to the other side, and I do feel like I’m turning a page in the chapter now,” French Gates said. “I mean, it’s 2022 and I’m actually really excited about what’s to come in life ahead for me. What could be coming up in iOS 16? After seeing the releases of iOS 15 and the subsequent iPhone 13 series, we’re in the midst of .1 updates that are slowly refining features we’ve been seeing since June, including iOS 15.2 and the forthcoming iOS 15.4. That doesn’t stop us from thinking of what could be in the next version of iOS, however, which we expect will be called iOS 16. Every iOS release has brought a major feature to the table, whether that’s widgets or dark mode. But iOS could still benefit from some new refinements to better manage how you use your iPhone every day. But if you're wanting to find out what Android users are looking forward to for 2022, check out our guide, tentatively called Android 13. We’ve combed through our iPhones to roundup five features we’d like to see arrive in iOS 16 next year, no matter how major or minor these may be. But first, we’ll run you through when we expect it to land and which iPhones will be supported. iOS 16 release date rumors Apple has followed a traditional schedule of announcing the latest iOS update in June at WWDC, followed by a release around September. With iOS 15.3 available, Apple has been focusing on rolling out significant features across more .1 updates. In previous years, we've seen the trackpad appear on iOS 13.4, alongside ProRes in iOS 15.1 in October last year. It wouldn't be a stretch to expect an iOS 15.5 by the time we see iOS 16, with more significant features for both your iPhone and iPad. iOS 16 supported iPhones Apple tries to support a variety of iPhone models in every new iOS release. iOS 15 supports iPhone 6S at a minimum, which was released in 2015. An early leak suggests - unsurprisingly - that the iPhone 6S (along with the iPhone 6S Plus and original iPhone SE) won't get iOS 16, but that everything from the iPhone 7 onwards will. It certainly wouldn't be a stretch to expect iOS 16 support for the iPhone 7 series at a minimum, but with some features likely held back, mainly due to the hardware limitations of the camera, or the chip inside certain iPhone models. Every iOS release comes with a major feature, but also a bunch of minor improvements across the board. If you still have an iPhone 8 for instance, you may reap the benefits of some of the small features in iOS 16 when it arrives. But you will most likely miss out on the big feature that Apple will showcase. News and leaks Aside from the release date and compatibility details above, the only thing we've really heard about iOS 16 so far is that it might have big, interactive widgets. These are apparently being referred to internally as 'InfoShack', and you can see how they might look in the image below. They'd essentially house multiple smaller widgets, of all different styles. That image also shows redesigned icons, so we might see that in iOS 16 too. However, the Apple TV remote icon is suspect, as it looks nothing like the actual Apple TV remote (which the current icon does), so we'd take this with a pinch of salt. What we want to see We don't know much about iOS 16 yet but we have a good idea of what we want from it, with the following features topping our list. Redesigned Camera app The iPhone camera has seen huge improvements in recent years, with more lenses being added and features such as Night Mode and Cinematic Mode being introduced. However, this has meant that the camera app has begun to feel bloated. Accessing forced flash or exposure settings requires a few more swipes than we’d like, alongside hidden gestures that don’t feel needed. With the release of iOS 15.2, we’ve seen a new macro button appear, which can help you more accurately set up those close-up shots when needed. This is just for the iPhone 13 series, though. Starting afresh with the camera app could help new users take photos in a whole new way, alongside giving existing users a fresh way of taking photos and videos. It wouldn’t be a stretch to assume that Apple has more big plans for the cameras in future iPhone models, which will also mean new features that we’ll be switching on and off when required. Let’s see an app that’s redesigned for what came before, and lays the groundwork for what’s coming next. QuickNote to iPhone This is a feature that appears in iPadOS 15 and macOS 12 Monterey, where you can drag your finger from the bottom-right corner, and you can quickly type in some notes, no matter where you are on your device. There are many gestures you can do on an iPhone, so there’s no harm in adding one more. Dragging from the bottom right corner would display a note that you could quickly type in, and save for a later date. With your thumb being your primary point of interaction with your smartphone, it's an easy win that can really help with quickly jotting something down. It will also save the strain of your thumb instead of reaching for the Control Center on the top right, and selecting the Notes icon. Home Automation widgets Since widgets were given a makeover in iOS 14, alongside the ability to place them anywhere on the home screen, some other apps have not been forthcoming with their own widgets to help reduce some steps. One blatant example is the Home app. You may have a selection of smart lights in your home where you use the app to help manage these. But if you want to quickly switch on a light, you may experience a delay if you ask Siri, or if the app isn’t responding, which has happened often in our experience. Having a widget on your home screen for your smart lights could really help reduce the steps in quickly switching the bedroom lamp on, instead of having to find the Home app. It’s a little strange that the widget hasn’t appeared as yet, but we’re hoping it arrives, not only to iOS 16, but future versions of macOS and iPadOS as well. Air apps If you own one of the AirPods peripherals, or an AirTag, you may find it very cumbersome to try and manage each of these. AirPods settings are only accessible through Bluetooth from within the Settings app, while AirTags settings are accessible through the Find My app. Being able to manage these through a centralized ‘AirThings’ app could relieve a lot of confusion as to what you own from Apple. Third-party vendors such as Sony bring out certain apps that can help you manage headphones and more to better manage the features that these bring. Being able to do the same, without having to go to Bluetooth within the Settings app, could bring a lot of simplicity to managing your devices. Better theme options Back in 2019, we saw an onslaught of themes thanks to a few new features that the Shortcuts app provided in iOS 13. With Shortcuts, you can use the app to create launch commands for other apps, and place an icon of your choice on the home screen for it. This has resulted in many themes being made available for iPhone users. YouTuber Marques Brownlee created a short guide to create your own icons with Shortcuts. But iOS 16 could go further. A new category in the App Store could enable themes to be downloaded and then selected within the Settings app. You could also choose different colors and sounds for notifications and set them as a separate theme, which could also be enabled with Automations in the Shortcuts app. Third-party developers could perhaps make their own sounds and themes available as well. While there would be restrictions on changing other app icons, it could further expand the individuality that users want from their devices. THE SITE

OpenBLAS wants to close itself to Elbrus optimizations - but is it too late already? Even as the international governmental and institutional community ups the pressure on Russia by enforcing increasingly tighter sanctions, a new player may have entered the sanction game. As reported by Phoronix, developers of the po[CENSORED]r OpenBLAS (Basic Linear Algebra Subprograms) library code are mulling whether or not to remove support for Russian-developed Elbrus processors. The debate concerns the possible applications and use-cases for the Russian processors, and would serve as a way to deny the country the Elbrus-specific optimizations that have been baked into OpenBLAS releases starting with branch #3518. An RFC (Request for Comments) post on the project's Github page explains the rationale for the removal, in that "The Elbrus processor is a so-called homegrown processor, with the primary use case of circumventing sanctions such as above. The processor is / will be used in Russian military equipment, intelligence service, and other branches of the Russian government. Linear algebra operations provided by OpenBLAS can be and are used within weapons (eg: machine learning, pattern recognition, computer vision), such as those used by the Russian military, either now or in the future." The OpenBLAS library is added to on a per-architecture basis, meaning that the implemented optimizations add support and improve performance for Russia's homegrown CPUs. Considering the less than competitive performance of the Russian-designed processors compared to even aging offerings from AMD and Intel, however, these optimizations are an important piece of the puzzle for their general performance. The problem, however, is that these CPUs will be mostly serving the Russian state apparatus - including, at least in theory, military applications. There's a slight caveat regarding the Request for Comments, however, in that Russia wasn't sanctioned regarding the usage of its homegrown Elbrus CPUs; only on receiving external technology. Naturally, no country or organization can prevent Russia from deploying its own processors within its borders. However, whether or not to officially remove the Elbrus-optimized code from the main branch stands mostly as an exercise in politics; since that code is open-source and already published, Russia already has access to the relevant bits. The country could simply keep on using the latest release with Elbrus-specific optimizations and could even attempt to maintain its own fork of the library. Some adages of the Internet are still true: once content is out there, there's little that can be done to roll it back. Comments on the proposal mostly seem to be aligned with the removal, at least as a political statement of support for Ukraine in the ongoing conflict. However, this does mark a potentially interesting inflection point for open-source initiatives. According to Phoronix, and to the best of our knowledge, this is the first time the open-source development community has asked the question of removing hardware support on the basis of geopolitical moves. It's too late now to pull the plug on the OpenBLAS optimizations, but that doesn't mean that the Open Source development community can't be more alert to the geopolitical underpinnings of the hardware they are coding or optimizing for. Of course, whether or not they should is an open-ended question. THE SITE

Expect six hours of downtime tonight as the balance patch is applied. While the first big update for Lost Ark is due later this month, a lot of conversation among players has been about the announcement that the next weekly update would rebalance some tier 1 and tier 2 endgame activities—several of its Abyssal Dungeons and Guardian Raids are being nerfed. Hardcore players wailed their game was being ruined for the sake of casuals, though there were also plenty of players pointing out that Guardian Raids in particular—activities intended to be repeated daily—don't need to be quite as drawn-out as they currently are. As well as detailing the changes in full, the latest blog post explains more of the reasoning behind the rebalance. "In other regions," it says, "players had to stay in Tier 1 and 2 for a considerable duration, as Tier 3 had not yet been released. With the amount of time spent in these stages of the game, players had a long time to study the patterns and mechanics of the Guardians and Demons they encountered— leaving only a few monsters that ended up posing as challenging hurdles for them." Meanwhile, the western version of Lost Ark launched with three tiers of endgame activities. Rather than being the be-all-and-end-all, the first two tiers of our version were intended to be a gentle ramp-up into what follows. But that's not how they were working. "With the different purpose of Tier 1 and Tier 2 in our regions," the post continues, "there were some overly difficult Guardians and Abyssal Dungeon encounters left behind. This balance update isn't about simply adjusting the difficulty as [a] whole. Rather, the focus is to improve some of the difficult patterns to better prepare players as they progress through each Tier and work their way toward Tier 3 endgame content." The actual updates aren't nearly as cataclysmic as some were predicting. Many of them simply tweak the amount of damage caused by specific attacks or alter attack patterns rather than being sweeping changes. Here they are: ABYSSAL DUNGEONSANCIENT ELVERIA Necromancer's Origin Improved player forgiveness during the orb phase when trying to defeat Sigmund during Stage 2 of Necromancer's Origin. Improved the visual effect of Sigmund's color wave to make it more clear to players. PHANTOM PALACE Hall of the Twisted Warlord Made a change to the Phantom Legion King attack pattern and Phantom Cut debuff stack that is applied to the character. Updated the Phantom Legion King Illusion Sword summon attack pattern. As the swords follow the players, if a player receives two stacks they will incur damage and upon reaching three stacks, they will die. Hildebrandt Palace Decreased the amount of damage required for the Stagger phase when Ephernia appears in Stage 3 of Hildebrandt Palace. Increased the Phantom Energy effect range from the Meteormechanicduring Stage 3. Changed the attack shape of the second Meteormechanicfrom a circle to a front attack during Stage 3. GATE OF PARADISE Sea of Indolence Increased the warning time for the omen attack in Stage 2 of Sea of Indolence. Changed Indolence Sentinel Akam's attack from a wipe mechanic to a high damage attack in Stage 2 of Sea of Indolence. GUARDIAN RAIDS Vertus Removed the stun debuff that was applied when players were hit by the tail swing attack. Decreased the damage dealt by several attacks: Jumping out of the ice. Grabbing a player and breathing ice fire. Nacrasena Decreased the damage dealt by several attacks: Tail attack after thumping the ground with tail. Jumping out of the ground. Lightning projectiles. Flame Fox Yoho Reduced the duration of Flame Fox Yoho's Flame Ground attack. Decreased Flame Fox Yoho's HP. Reduced the effect of the Burning Soul ability. Decreased the damage dealt by several attacks: Throwing Fox fires. Jump forward and claw attacks. Jump upward and claw attacks. Tytalos Decreased the duration of Tytalos' Circle of Spalling rock attack. Changed Tytalos’ attack that collects sand energy and explodes from a wipe mechanic to a high-damage attack. Decreased the damage dealt by Tytalos’ earth explosion attacks. Achates Modified Guardian Achates summon statue pattern to always summon four Guardian Statues. Decreased the damage required to apply Weak Point to Achates. To keep Achates challenging in Trial Guardian Raids, that encounter will not have these changes – but more on that in a future update! Lava Chromanium Decreased the damage dealt by the lava eruption attack used by Lava Chromanium when becoming Berserk. Levanos Decreased the damage required to apply Weak Point* to Levanos. *Weak Point is a mechanic which requires players to break a part of the enemy (such as shields, shells, wings etc.) or target a specific area with abilities and battle items marked with the 'Destruction' keyword. Alberhastic Reduced Alberhastic's beneficial effect that was granted when obtaining the Heat Orb. Changed the wipe mechanic to a high-damage attack. The update will also include several bugfixes and some improvements to how matchmaking works. It's going live tonight, meaning an expected downtime of six hours will begin at 10pm PST / 5pm AEST / 6am UTC.

Amazon has successfully stalled Future's $3.4-billion (roughly Rs. 25,792 crore) asset sale to rival Reliance since 2020. In an unexpected move on Thursday, Amazon counsel Gopal Subramanium suggested at a Supreme Court hearing that the two sides negotiate, saying the "whirlpool" of disputes fought on multiple fronts had been dragging on for too long. "All that I'm saying is let us at least have a conversation. We cannot allow the spinners' wheel to continue like this. Please consider this," Subramanium said. "We must agree, discuss ... come face-to-face and discuss the best possibilities." Counsel for Future Group agreed to the talks, saying "nobody is winning in this battle." The judges said the two sides can take 10 days to reach a possible solution. Ads by Amazon has successfully stalled Future's $3.4 billion (roughly Rs. 25,792 crore) asset sale to Indian rival Reliance since 2020, accusing its business partner of violating certain contracts. Future denies any wrongdoing, but the US firm's position has been backed by a Singapore arbitrator and Indian courts. Amazon's olive branch comes just days after Reliance started seizing control of around 500 Future stores, rebranding them as their own outlets despite the ongoing legal disputes. Reliance had previously transferred leases of some of Future's flagship supermarkets to its name, but allowed Future to still operate them. Reliance has now begun to take possession of the prized real estate after Future failed to make rental payments to it, sources say.

From bug fixes to refinements A new month brings a roundup of updates from Google, which applies to all of its products that feature its Google software loaded on. You may already see these as a notification on your Pixel 6 or Samsung S22 Ultra as a required update. These are similar to Microsoft's efforts for monthly updates in Windows 11, where small refinements or bug fixes are grouped into one download package. But these updates aren't limited to Android - Chromebook, Chrome OS, WearOS, Android Auto will all have this update, ready to download and install as well. What's in Google's March update? While the main bug fixes for this March update vary between Games and Wallet Management, Google Play Store is its main focus: Improvements to the Play-as-you-download feature to let gamers start playing mobile games while the app download continues to reduce waiting times. New Features to help you discover the Apps & Games you love. Optimizations allow faster and more reliable download and installation. New features to the Play Pass and Play Points programs. Enhancements to Google Play Billing. Continuous improvements to Play Protect to keep your device safe. Various performance optimizations, bug fixes, and improvements to security, stability, and accessibility. If the update hasn't shown as a notification on your Google device, go to Settings > About > Software Update, and a box should appear, listing the March 2022 update. These monthly updates are always recommended, as they can help improve privacy, quash bugs and bring in features across your Google devices, from your smartphone to your car. But with Google rumored to host another I/O event where it announces new updates to all of its products and software releases, we may see a substantial monthly update on the horizon soon. At $149, it is nearly double the price of the non-analog version. Razer has announced that an analog version of its diminutive Huntsman Mini gaming keyboard is now available. The aptly named Razer Huntsman Mini Analog brings the pleasures of the pressure sensitive Razer Analog Optical Switches to the 60% form factor. The Razer Huntsman Mini Analog is the company's first 60% keyboard to use analog switches. The difference between this model and the existing Huntsman Mini is that this new keyboard can provide actuation refinements, such as adjustable or stepped actuation, plus analog input. Razer highlights three main use-cases it envisions for making the most of these keyswitches: Firstly, it suggests making use of a key's adjustable actuation levels by allocating multiple commands to a single keystroke. Razer software will enable you to trigger different commands based upon actuation height. Secondly, Razer proposed users setup a dual-step actuation. This sounds less fussy and easier to play with than the first use case. Razer goes on to say dual-step actuation will be useful for "executing advanced combos and skill rotations."

And yet phone benchmarking apps get a free pass. Don't get any bright ideas about your laptops, Samsung. Twitter user GaryeonHan and a legion of Samsung smartphone users (thanks to Android Authority) have compiled a list of over 10,000 apps whose performance has been reduced or throttled when Samsung's game optimizing app, GOS, is running in the background. Though strangely no phone benchmarking apps appear in the list. Funny that. What's allegedly happening is that Samsung's Game Optimizing Service (GOS) app, which optimizes game performance (to improve battery life and reduce heat) on Android phones, might be 'optimizing' things that aren't games. Users have complained that tons of apps and services, such as Netflix, Samsung Pay, and even the phone dialer have been running poorly whenever GOS is active. GOS seems to whitelist phone benchmarking apps like 3DMark and Geekbench from artificially limiting. So if you're running a benchmark, you might think there's nothing wrong or see any performance dip whatsoever unless, of course, you use an app that is affected. A Korean Youtuber found a way to trick GOS into seeing 3DMark as Genshin Impact and was, therefore, able to benchmark the throttling in action. It reduced its benchmark score by more than half when running on a Galaxy S22 Ultra. GOS is preinstalled on some Galaxy S21 and older phones, and there are reports that it is also preinstalled and non-removable on the new Galaxy S22, too.

Perhaps not surprisingly, there are competitions that are extremely po[CENSORED]r elsewhere in the world, but that the typical American likely hasn’t heard of them at all. 24/7 Wall St. identified 20 of the most interesting, unusual, and regionally po[CENSORED]r of these. Some of these games, such as netball, handball -- not the handball you’re thinking of -- or Aussie rules football, bear many similarities to po[CENSORED]r American sports and often can trace their origins to these sports. Others on this list, such as Afghanistan’s national sport buzkashi, which is played with the headless carcass of a goat, are different altogether. Some of these sports, while hugely po[CENSORED]r where they are played, are niche in that they are only played in one place, and sometimes only during a single annual event. In these cases, such as the hyper-violent calcio fiorentino, the event is usually the cornerstone of a well-attended festival. Here are some of the most po[CENSORED]r carnivals from around the world. Not all of these sports are held in professional arenas -- many are held outdoors, on sawdust, and in muddy terrain. Others are held in official sports venues and are often locally po[CENSORED]r enough to sell out events to tens of thousands of fans. Many of these sports have some local po[CENSORED]rity in the United States, but if you want to see high-level competition for any of these sports, you'll likely need to buy a plane ticket. But these are the most po[CENSORED]r countries on the CDC's Do Not Travel list. THE SITE

EU countries have granted Ukrainian refugees a far more generous offer than the UK's scheme - confirming they can stay in a chosen nation for three years. The Temporary Protection Directive will grant refugees automatic temporary residence in any EU country alongside access to education, healthcare, housing and jobs immediately for up to one year. The scheme prevents refugees having to apply via long asylum processes. If the conflict continues their status could be extended for a further two years. It is the first time the EU has ever invoked this procedure, and will be welcomed by many charities and campaigners as one million people have fled Ukraine since Russia's invasion last Thursday. Earlier this week, the UK Government were forced to bow down to mounting pressure and offer a better humanitarian scheme to Ukrainian refugees. On Sunday Boris Johnson promised to be "very generous" to refugees seeking safety. But failed to offer protection to people's parents, siblings or adult children. Ylva Johansson European Commissioner for Home Affairs said: “I must say that I’m so impressed by all the efforts from all the EU citizens who are working there as volunteers… [who] open their homes for people to come live with them. “This is a moment to be proud to be European, but this is also a moment for strong decisions.” Ms Johansson called the quick adoption of the protection rules a “historic result” and said “the EU stands united to save lives”. The European Commission has already promised at least 500 million euros (£414 million) in humanitarian aid for the refugees. Ms Johansson pointed to nations like Poland, where the po[CENSORED]tion has gone out of its way to be welcoming to the refugees, as an example for others to follow. “They need financial support now because they’re going to have to find accommodation for people to have to find schools for the children,” she said. The news comes as Putin claimed his invasion is "going according to plan", sparking fears of a huge humanitarian crisis. Putin accused Ukraine forces of taking "thousands of foreign citizens hostage" and using civilians as "human shields". He provided no evidence for these claims. As it stands, Brits who have elderly relatives and siblings caught up in the Ukraine crisis still cannot bring them to safety here in the UK. Downing Street has confirmed people living in the UK can bring “adult parents, grandparents, children over 18 and siblings” in addition to those who had previously been allowed. But those measures will not come into effect until Friday March 4. Family members of British nationals can only apply in Lviv, Ukraine; Rzeszow, Poland; Hungary, Moldova or Romania. THE SITE

Fitbit received at least 174 reports of the watch’s overheating globally, with 118 reports of burn injuries. Fitbit Ionic has been recalled by the Google-owned company due to overheating issues that could potentially cause a burn hazard, a US regulator said on Wednesday. The recalling decision comes after Fitbit received more than 100 reports of burn injuries owing to overheating of the smartwatch. Launched back in September 2017, the Fitbit Ionic offered features including activity tracking as well as heart and sleep monitoring. About one million units of the Ionic smartwatch were sold in the US until December 2021, with an additional 693,000 sold globally including India. As a result of the recalling, Fitbit will issue a refund of $299 (roughly Rs. 22,700) once owners will return their Ionic watch to the company. It will also provide consumers with a discount code to offer 40 percent off on select Fitbit devices, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission noted in its announcement. Fitbit received at least 174 reports of the watch's overheating, with 118 reports of burn injuries that include two cases of third-degree burns and four of second-degree burns, the US commission said. “We received a very limited number of reports — the totals in the US regulator announcement represent less than 0.01 percent of units sold — of the battery in Fitbit Ionic smartwatches overheating, posing a burn hazard,” Fitbit said in a statement emailed to Gadgets 360. The company stated that the recall did not impact other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers. Fitbit stopped the production of Ionic in 2020. The smartwatch was launched in India at Rs. 22,990 in January 2018. Gadgets 360 asked Fitbit to confirm how Indian consumers can avail the refund, and the company responded by saying that the users impacted outside the US should visit help.fitbit.com/ionic for information on how to receive a refund. "The refund will be equivalent to USD $299 in local currency. We urge all Ionic users to participate," the company said. The recall is limited to four variants of the Fitbit Ionic that have the following model numbers: FB503CPBU, FB503GYBK, FB503WTGY, and FB503WTNV. Eligible consumers in the US can proceed for the refund by contacting Fitbit helpline at 888-925-1764 or visiting the help section on the company's website. User reports on the Fitbit Community forums suggest that the overheating issues with the Ionic watch started to emerge shortly after its launch in 2017. “Today my Fitbit Ionic burnt my wrist. I noticed I had a stinging feeling,” one of the affected users said in a forum post. This is notably not the first time when Fitbit is recalling one of its po[CENSORED]r wearables. In 2014, the company recalled its Force wristband after facing complaints of skin rashes and irritation. Fitbit also avoided recalling the Flex wristband despite getting similar skin irritation reports and said that it made some adjustments and put a warning that it could cause allergic reactions due to nickel.

Not just an icon anymore Windos 11 is improving how Bluetooth devices are displayed on the Taskbar, with a new interactive overview of battery life and options to connect to these devices in an upcoming update. Since Windows XP in 2001, there's been a constant Bluetooth icon in the Taskbar that would show you options such as available devices, as well as a link to the Bluetooth Settings in the Control Panel. But with wireless devices more common than ever before in 2022, Microsoft has decided to make the process simpler by replacing this 20-year method with an overview of the devices that are paired to your PC, without having to leave the app or the desktop. This is yet another example of the company making processes easier for users in Windows 11, but there's still more work to do in this area, with features that macOS users have had for years. Analysis: From three clicks to one Connecting to wireless devices has never been as straightforward as connecting to a Wi-Fi network in Windows. Simply adding a Bluetooth section in Settings or the Control Panel felt unnecessary, especially with smartphones and Macs reducing the process to two steps. The Taskbar in Windows 11 has had a Quick Settings feature since its launch in October 2021, so you can directly access 'Focus' mode, audio settings, and more without leaving the app you were currently in. With Bluetooth being available in this panel as well, it will be very handy to those who have multiple devices connected to their PCs. This is rolling out to users who are on Windows Insider build 2567 and above. If you've not signed up to be a Windows Insider to help test early versions of Windows 11, this new and improved Bluetooth functionality will hopefully arrive later this year. It should be worth the wait, especially if you have multiple game controllers or headphones, it can help alleviate the confusion to be given a quick overview of what's not connected, and quickly resolve that. Having a battery status for each device will be a great help too in reminding users to charge them when needed. However, there's still more that can be done in this area. Other features such as switching between noise-canceling and equalizer modes for headphones could be a great help, similar to what Apple users have had on their Macs for a few years. But it's still a great step in the right direction to start with, and a much-needed feature in a time when many of us use Bluetooth devices almost every day for our PCs.

Big caches are the new way to boost memory bandwidth Nvidia's next-generation Ada GPU architecture will reportedly receive a massive boost in L2 cache sizes, as shared by @harukaze5719 and @xinoassassin1 on Twitter. The new leak alleges L2 sizes have increased on the new architecture by 16x compared to Nvidia's current GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs, and are on par with AMD's Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs with Infinity Cache technology. The flagship Ada die, AD102, reportedly gets the biggest cache size of the entire lineup at an impressive 96MB (16MB per 64-bit memory controller), while the AD103 and AD104 die could receive 64MB of cache instead. AD106 will have 48MB and AD107 will come with the least amount of cache at 32MB. Nonetheless, even AD107's cache size dwarfs that of Nvidia's most powerful GPUs today running on the GA102 die that comes with just 6MB (512KB per 32-bit memory controller). It's not hard to understand why Nvidia is making this unorthodox move with its Ada architecture. Previous reports indicated that Ada could have up to 71% more cores than Ampere. Of course, with more cores, you need to increase memory bandwidth to ensure that each is constantly fed with data, and without going to a wider memory interface, improving bandwidth utilization with a larger cache is a good option. AMD was the first company to demonstrate the full potential of large internal caches on GPUs, introducing its RNDA2-based Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs. With RDNA2, AMD introduced its Infinity Cache, which added a massive L3 cache to the GPU along with the other L0, L1, and L2 caches. Compared to previous generations of Nvidia and AMD GPUs, these caches are much larger, with the top RDNA2 die possessing 128MB of Infinity Cache. In testing with GPUs such as the RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT, it was found that these huge cache sizes could completely alleviate bottlenecking the GPU's relatively weak 256-bit memory bus, which paled in comparison to Nvidia's RTX 3080 with a 320-bit bus and a 384-bit bus for the RTX 3090. Nvidia's RTX 3080 and 3090 are also running faster GDDR6X memory, while AMD has stuck to regular GDDR6 ICs. So despite the seemingly drastically underpowered memory configuration of the RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT, these GPUs were able to go toe-to-toe with Nvidia's counterparts thanks to the large pool of Infinity Cache. Ada will be the first time Nvidia has really taken a page out of AMD's playbook and will likely combat its higher core count requirements with bigger caches instead of purely increasing raw bandwidth with faster ICs and larger bus-widths. Not only is Nvidia allegedly using large L2 caches, but it's also apparently keeping its bus widths the same as current generation Ampere GPUs, according to the leak. This means that Nvidia will rely more on internal caches to keep memory bandwidth high, just like AMD. We recently saw the introduction of 21Gbps GDDR6X modules and new Samsung roadmaps for GDDR6+ and GDDR7. Nvidia may leverage those higher clocked ICs to gain even more memory bandwidth. On the other hand, AMD chose to stick with standard GDDR6 modules for the entirety of its RDNA2 lineup — with even the 6900 XT LC uses 18.5 GDDR6. Recent reports indicate that RDNA3 dies could have as much as 256MB to 512MB of infinity cache, which would be 2.7x and 5.4x as large as Ada's current L2 cache size projections. However, as with most caching architectures, there's a point of diminishing returns, and even a 512MB L3 cache may not radically improve performance over a 128MB cache. Regardless, things are shaping up to be quite interesting in the GPU space later this year.

As well as graphics cards not being detected. An Elden Ring patch snuck out today, announced by FromSoftware in thread of updates on Twitter. It's a very small patch for a very large game, amounting to only 13.1MB. Don't expect anything game-changing, then. Well, not unless you've tangoed with a fire giant with a penchant for killing the game. That's one way to win a fight. And it's also one of the fixes tackled in patch 1.02.2. The next time you start scrapping with it, you should be in for a fairer fight, or at least won't find the game quitting on its own. The patch also fixes an issue where graphics cards weren't being used, which as you can probably imagine is not an optimal way to play Elden Ring. Not that even the best GPUs guarantee decent performance. Frame rate dips and stuttering continue to be an issue, regardless of what's in your PC. Even my 3080 Ti is having problems. And that's about it for the specifics, unfortunately. The last item on this very short list is "Fixed other bugs", which implies they weren't very big ones. There aren't any patch notes, just the tweet, so these fixes will have to remain a mystery for now. I'm lucky enough to have avoided running foul of bugs, so what I'm waiting for is optimisation and an end to the damn stuttering, which has, to be fair, been lessened since launch. It's not been fully excised yet, though. Thankfully, the team hasn't been silent on this, and an outline of how it plans to deal with performance issues was shared last week.
