  2. MPs are calling for an investigation into a lack of school work during lockdown, claiming it is close to a "national educational disaster".Education minister Nick Gibb told Parliament today that the effects of coronavirus would be felt "for a considerable time" but that the government was focused on tackling the lost time in education. He told MPs that no child should have their life chances damaged by the coronavirus outbreak. However Conservative MP Christian Wakeford (Bury South) claimed that with most children having spent the last few months at home more than two million of these had completed "barely any school work" in that time.Speaking in an debate on education, Mr Wakeford said that a six-month learning loss for pupils was an "eternity".He told MPs: "This is close to being a national educational disaster."Clearly something has gone wrong and we must examine why. Whilst many schools have done remarkable work, others have not been able to provide the same offer for one reason or another, and this too needs to be investigated why."Mr Wakeford, who was speaking on behalf of the Commons education committee, said Ofsted should have taken a leading role in outlining expectations during this period. He went on: "Ofsted seems to have taken a badger approach by reducing their activity and hibernating during these difficult months."Mr Gibb said the government's ambition is to provide "equality of opportunity for every child" as pupils return to school full time in September, but that "no one should underestimate the scale of the challenge" that the closure of schools in March had provided."Education recovery lies at the heart of our national mission as we emerge from the disruption caused from the coronavirus pandemic and no child should see their life chances damaged by being out of school for so long," the schools minister said."Our ambition is to provide equality of opportunity for every child and to support parents and carers," he told MPs.Mr Gibb added: "Since 2010, most children are now attending good and outstanding schools, the attainment gap between the disadvantaged and their peers has narrowed at all stages, a record proportion of disadvantaged students are going to university, we have a world-class curriculum and ambitions for world-class technical education."The effects of the current epidemic will be felt across society for a considerable time."It was right that we moved rapidly to secure a massive one-off investment in our schools to tackle both lost time in education and foster greater focus on proven approaches so that all pupils can receive the education they have a right to expect."The Government also faced calls to extend the department's catch-up funding to 16 to 18-year-old students.Tory MP Peter Aldous (Waveney) said: "It is a concern that 16 to 18-year-olds are not able to access the Covid catch-up fund."He added: "At present, there is no funding for this."To address this unfairness, to remove this obstacle, it is important that before the end of term Government confirms that all 16 to 18providers can access Covid catch-up funding on the same terms as 11 to 16-year-olds."
  3. Television commentators praise players with lighter skin as more intelligent and hardworking than those with darker skin, showed a study by Danish firm RunRepeat in association with the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA).The study analysed 2,073 statements from English-speaking commentators in 80 games from the 2019-20 season across Italy's Serie A, France's Ligue 1, Spain's La Liga and England's Premier League. A total of 643 players of various races and skin tones were discussed.Analysis revealed that players with darker skin tones were "significantly more likely" to be reduced to their physical characteristics or athletic abilities like pace and power.Around 62 per cent of praise was aimed at players with lighter skin while 63.33 per cent of criticism was aimed at those with darker skin."To address the real impact of structural racism, we have to acknowledge and address racial bias. This study shows an evident bias in how we describe the attributes of footballers based on their skin colour," PFA equalities executive Jason Lee said."Commentators help shape the perception we hold of each player, deepening any racial bias already held by the viewer. It's important to consider how far-reaching those perceptions can be and how they impact footballers even once they finish their playing career."If a player has aspirations of becoming a coach/manager, is an unfair advantage given to players that commentators regularly refer to as intelligent and industrious, when those views appear to be a result of racial bias?"The study comes amid protests around the world against racial injustice following the death of George Floyd, a Black man who died in police custody in the US city of Minneapolis on May 25.
  4. Suzuki’s UK line-up is will soon be exclusively hybridised, with non-electrified variants of all models down to dealer stock only and the Jimny 4x4 now no longer directly available to order. The future of the compact off-roader was already in question after Suzuki UK said it would only be sold “in very limited numbers throughout 2020” at the start of the year. A brand spokesperson has now confirmed that “once existing and limited number dealer allocations to customers are fulfilled over the next 4-5 months” it will be officially axed.As previously rumoured, there remains a possibility that the model could be brought back into the market as an N1 class commercial vehicle in future, with the removal of the rear seats to enable a load bay alongside other homologation alterations. However, this is yet to be confirmed. The Jimny’s fate is largely down to the adverse effect it has on the brand’s fleet average CO2 emissions. Even in most frugal manual form its CO2 rating is 154g/km - well above the 95g/km fleet average Suzuki will need to meet in 2021.Suzuki’s wider range now comprises the Vitara and S-Cross SUVs, the Swift and Swift Sport hatchbacks and the Ignis city car. All are now offered solely with mild-hybrid petrol engines. The Ignis and Swift use a cheaper and simpler 12v system, while the SUVs and Swift Sport use a more advanced 48v system. Suzuki claims economy is boosted by as much as 15%, and CO2 is reduced by as much as 25%, compared with the previous non-hybrid versions. The range will soon also be joined by the Across SUV - recently revealed as the first product created under a partnership between Suzuki and Toyota. Essentially a rebadged and lightly restyled RAV4, the Across features Suzuki's first plug-in hybrid powertrain.

  7. Senran Kagura: Peach Ball (Switch [reviewed], PC) Developer: Honey∞Parade Games Publisher: Xseed Games Released July 9, 2019 MSRP: $39.99 The Senran Kagura series is in a bit of a tough spot right now. Kenichiro Takaki, the creator of the franchise, announced in March that he was leaving developer Marvelous, feeling he was being restricted on what kind of content he could show in his games. While he is still attached to the announced Senran Kagura 7even, it's unclear exactly what that game will end up being due to Sony's recent prudish ways.Of course, as I'm sure many have pointed out before, Takaki could just move the game over to Switch. Nintendo has been receiving of the Senran series since its inception. Even something as over the top as Senran Kagura: Peach Ball is welcome on Nintendo hardware, which is great because it might be the best Senran spin-off to date. The Senran Kagura series is no stranger to ridiculous plots and eye-popping fan service, two things Peach Ball has in spades. The game is set in the Honey Arcade where Haruka, the puppet master of Hebijo Academy, works part time. Unfortunately, the place isn't always busy and in her down time, she likes to do some chemistry. One of her latest concoctions is Beastall, a liquid that turns anyone who touches it into an animal. As is wont to happen with this series, things go awry during a video game tournament when the heterochromatic Ryona mistakes the serum for soap and turns into a dog. She then goes about licking the four other girls there with her, which she probably would have done even if she wasn't sporting dog ears and a tail. Murasaki, Yumi, Yomi, and Asuka soon start turning into animals themselves, leaving it up to you and Haruka to change them back using the power of the Peach Ball. It's a totally cheesecake set-up and the developers smartly lean all the way into it. Unlike the last time Honey∞Parade Games got its hands on the franchise, Peach Ball is an always light and airy experience. Most of the dialogue of the story mode thick in the cornball sexuality fans expect and the pinball gameplay of the Peach Ball can be exceptionally fun if frustratingly meager. Senran Kagura: Peach Ball has just two pinball tables: Peach Land and Spooky Shinobi Park. Each table has different themes and backgrounds players can unlock, but nothing to quintessentially change how the table plays. Through all five hours of the campaign, it'll just be the same two tables over and over, which can sound monotonous. However, the pinball gameplay has enough features that repeated plays never grows rote, with plenty of bells and whistles to keep each run buzzing with excitement.Peach Land is the standout of the two tables. The theme park design of it is inviting and its layout is thoughtful and full of character, especially as you begin to learn the tricks of the table. There are teacup bumpers to hit, a Ferris Wheel to activate, a drop ride, and more. A lot of love went into the creation of this table and it shows. There is clearly some love in the design of Spooky Shinobi Park as well, but it's general design is too similar to Peach Land, and its gimmick -- mini-games you can activate when you collect enough coins -- can often be difficult to activate.Unlike a regular game of pinball, Peach Ball encourages players to shake the table, using either the Joy-Con motion controls or thumb sticks, and doing so can help player rack up the points. Each table has one of the five girls at the center of it and if you hit them in their special spots -- boobs, butt, taint -- you'll score massive points. One of the best ways to send that score flying is to trap the ball behind the girl, creating a situation where it's always bouncing off her. Bumping the table is one of the ways to make this happen, but you can also do it with a perfect shot. You should know that Peach Ball does not feature true-to-life pinball physics -- they feel tilted in the players favor -- but it never crosses a line to where the game is too easy. As you play each table, you'll have a growing series of challenges to complete. These are listed to the right of the screen during gameplay and can ask you to score a certain number of points, hit the ball into a specific location multiple times, or repeatedly bump the girl with the ball. Score enough points and you'll open the opportunity for a Sexy Challenge. These are pinball mini-games where the object is to hit whatever little toys dot the table enough times that your girl ends up in a compromising situation. Some of these challenges include rubber ducks that get the girls all wet, an ice cream truck that gets them sticky, or magical top hats that produce a pair of tickling hands. It's all very tongue-in-cheek and never crosses over into being grossly exploitative. Even the Super Sexy Challenge, the final bit of each table where you're just smacking Peach Balls directly into the girl's boobs or butt, is all in good fun. But that fun feels limited when there are only five girls and just two tables.Outside of the story mode, players have access to a free mode that allows them to play to their hearts content. Playing either mode will net you coins to spend in the in-game shop, and there is a lot of content here to unlock. New clothes, hairstyles, Peach Ball designs, artwork, music, and more is up for grabs, and unlike with a lot of games, I thoroughly enjoyed going through and unlocking everything in the game because the core gameplay is so damn entertaining. And yes, the dressing room returns with costumes, diorama poses, and the Reflexions-like intimacy mode that lets you touch the girls all over.Marvelous and Honey∞Parade Games' biggest mistake with Senran Kagura: Peach Ball was treating it as a budget title because it deserves so much more: more tables, more girls, more everything. Combining the cheeseball sexuality of Senran with pinball is perhaps the most brilliant idea this franchise has ever had and the execution of what is here is nearly flawless. But the lack of a diverse set of pinball tables and a curtailed cast keep Peach Ball from reaching the excellence it could have so easily achieved if the developers had more time and more ideas for what they wanted Peach Ball to be.[This review is based on a retail build of the game provided by the publisher.] CPU: Info CPU SPEED: Dual Core CPU RAM: 4 GB OS: Microsoft Windows 7.1/8/8.1/10 VIDEO CARD: Graphics card with DX10 (shader model 4.0) capabilities PIXEL SHADER: 4.0 VERTEX SHADER: 4.0 FREE DISK SPACE: 3 GB

  9. Education secretary Gavin Williamson has confirmed that primary schools will continue to receive the £320 million PE and Sport Premium during the next academic year. The grant, worth an average of around £18,000 per school, helps schools to engage pupils in regular physical activity, including swimming lessons and running the “the Daily Mile”, while increasing confidence and skills of staff in teaching PE and sport.Mr Williamson, who last week in the House of Commons declined to comment on whether the grant would continue, said today: “During these challenging times, it has become clearer to me than ever the importance of keeping active and how it benefits not just our physical health but also our ability to pay attention, our mood and our mental health too.“I know that many children will have missed time spent outdoors with their friends – that’s why it’s so important that ahead of a full return to school in September, schools get the certainty they need to prepare their PE and sports activities for next year.”The Department for Education also said that any PE and Sport Premium funding from the current academic year (2019-20) that schools have been unable to use as a result of the coronavirus pandemic can be brought forward to use in the next academic year.Chief executive of Sport England Tim Hollingsworth said: “It's never been more needed given the massive disruption to children’s activity levels during lockdown with our research showing that the number of children meeting the chief medical officer's guidelines has dropped from almost 47 per cent to 19 per cent."The ring-fenced grant, for English primary school, which was doubled in 2017, also helps schools pay for a broader range of sports and activities offered as well as the increased participation in competitive sport. It is also being used support SEND pupils "build physical literacy" in thing like tying their own shoe laces and holding a knife and fork.Sue Wilkinson MBE, chief executive of the Association for Physical Education said the investment would have “a significant impact on teachers’ confidence and competence” in delivering PE lessons.Children’ charity the Youth Sport Trust, which works with thousands of schools to improve young pupils' wellbeing through sport and PE, said the money play an essential role in young people’s recovery after lockdown.

  11. Win on Sunday, sell on Monday’ has underpinned many a motorsport programme over the years, be it a mega-bucks manufacturer-backed Formula 1, Le Mans or world rally team or a more realistic dealer-supported national race or rally squad. If it seems naive today to think that those six words could convince a mega-bucks industry to write cheques in support of sporting excellence, flick through pictures from the 1960s and you’ll soon get a sense that it was both persuasive and pervasive. Of course, as the world has evolved so too has the significance of the phrase. Today, motorsport budgets are typically controlled by marketers – an extension of their advertising budgets, if you like, and talked about in terms of the benefits of relationship building, positive sentiment analysis and brand awareness. They will produce reams of analysis in support of all those things. I know, because I once read a document justifying why Infiniti was spending $30 million a year putting a sticker on cars it didn’t power. Cynical I may have been, but there was an evident logic to it compared with spending $200m as an actual manufacturer. While Ferrari without F1 is unthinkable, you don’t have to go far down the chain to realise that motorsport soon becomes expendable. Right now, even the dominant F1 force of the decade, Mercedes, is having to justify its involvement as being cost neutral, thanks to TV, sponsor and engine supply income, not because it sells cars. I’ve no doubt that F1 provides significant exposure for the brand, and sways many a potential Audi or BMW buyer its way, but it would take a huge amount of swagger to claim that alone justifies its involvement. There is also a deeper issue here. Burning fossil fuels is an anachronism, developing high-performance hybrids costly and launching all-electric championships too costly, complex and compromising to many of the elements of the sport that make it appeal in the first place. Formula E’s fans may disagree, but they total tens, maybe hundreds, of thousands rather than millions – certainly not enough to justify the cost long term.Maybe there is one way out. What if the big brains and big budgets of the top-level championships stopped pandering to the latest powertrain trends and instead focused on prolonging the current ones? Today, synthetic fuel – essentially a damage-free version of petrol or diesel – is an expensive reality, but with the right focus, it could be a cost-effective secret to not only keeping today’s engines running but also tomorrow’s, all cleanly, economically and without the need for a wholesale infrastructure change. Then motorsport really would have a platform from which to shout again.

  13. Pokémon Café Mix (Android, iOS [reviewed], Switch) Developer: Genius Sonority Publisher: The Pokémon Company Released: June 23, 2020 MSRP: Free-to-play w/ Microtransactions A few years ago, I wrote a review for The Pokémon Cookbook, an instructional book designed for kids that teaches you how to shape your food into Pokémon. It did not go well. I didn't make edible Pokémon so much as I created food so horrific looking that even Andrew Zimmern wouldn't touch it. Turns out, making food art is, well, an art.Making dishes that look like my favorite pocket monsters is certainly out of my reach in real life, but it's something I excel at in Pokémon Café Mix. There is no getting around that Pokémon Café Mix is one of the sweetest looking games available on mobile platforms. It opens with a decadent looking video of a Pokémon café from your past before you set off to start your own restaurant. Helping you along the way will be Leah, who'll introduce the puzzles that stand between you and operating the best damn Pokémon cafe on the planet. Soon enough, adorable looking Pokémon will start lining up to try your goods, and if you impress them enough, they'll join your team and bring their special skills along with them.Initially, the actual puzzle mechanic behind Pokémon Café Mix doesn't look all that complicated. You touch a Pokémon icon and then move it around the puzzle board, linking it to matching icons as you try to go for big combos. Each puzzle manifests itself as an order at your café, and there are certain requirements to clearing each one successfully, such as clearing a certain number of a specific Pokémon or reaching a specific score. You only have a set number of moves to complete each puzzle in and if once you touch an icon on the screen, you only have a couple of seconds before whatever combo you've amassed clears from the board. Successfully clear a puzzle, and the Pokémon rewards you with golden acorns based on how many turns you had left.If you ever come across a puzzle you can't immediately solve, and you will, there are special skills that can help you out. Each Pokémon has a unique ability, Leah drops megaphones onto the puzzle board from time to time, and there are café skills you can use to clear entire lines of Pokémon and gimmicks or immediately unlock a Pokémon skill. It's very intuitive, though, with fat fingers like mine, I preferred playing the game on my iPad or Switch rather than smaller Pixel 3a. Speaking of the platforms, know in advance there is no universal login for Café Mix, and the mobile and Switch versions currently do not link up to one another. The challenge in Pokémon Café Mix comes from the various menu items and gimmicks the game slowly adds to the puzzle formula as you progress. For the first few orders or so, your only concern is linking as many Pokémon together as you can. Soon enough, the game introduces sugar cubes, which you can clear with a megaphone, a café skill, a Pokémon skill, or by clearing linked Pokémon three times while they touch the cube. From there, it introduces more gimmicks, including honey, which respawns if you don't clear it all, ice that freezes Pokémon and gimmicks in place, and the most annoying of them all, bubbles. You can clear all these gimmicks with a skill, megaphone, or clearing linked Pokémon that touch them. However, some require a different strategy. Tomatoes, for instance, must be moved to the baskets at the bottom of the puzzle screen. You can only clear nuts from the puzzle board with megaphones or skills. Some of the puzzles can look daunting, but knowing how to use the puzzle formula to my advantage kept it from feeling overwhelming.Throughout my journey through the first 100 puzzles, I've only had two massive roadblocks on my progression. Order 64 and order 88 took several attempts and required a lot of waiting for my hearts to refill. You're able to play Pokémon Café Mix as long as you want so long as you're winning. Each time you fail, you lose a heart, and each one takes a half-hour to refill. You have five hearts to work with, but on these two puzzles, I ended up putting my phone down as I did something else to pass the time until I could tackle them again. The gimmicks I can deal with, but there is one aspect of Café Mix that proves far more irksome the further I get into it. As stated above, satisfied customers will eventually start volunteering at your café and each helper Pokémon has a unique skill. Charizard, for instance, will clear Pokémon and gimmicks to the right of his skill icon. Combine two of his skill icons, which you can do for all characters, and it is even more powerful. Now, the game will recommend which Pokémon are best suited for the puzzle challenge at hand, even if you don't have that Pokémon. One of the puzzles I struggled with had a recommended Pokémon of Munchlax. For whatever reason, I'd only served Munchlax once at that point in the game and was still a few visits away from them joining my squad. Every three or so fails of this puzzle, the game would recommend I switch to the Pokémon best suited for this challenge, a Pokémon I did not have. Thankfully, I was able to add Munchlax to my roster not long after using party invitations that invite two customers to your café for two dishes. It's an easy way to build up your rapport with the Pokémon, but it's limited in how many times you can throw a party and who's invited. As this is a free-to-play game, there are microtransactions you can purchase and it does sporadically encourage you to do so, mostly when you run out of golden acorns. You can buy these acorns with the cheapest price starting at 99¢ for 1,200 all the way up to $19.99 for 24,400. You can use acorns to refill hearts, swap invitees to your parties, and to give you an extra three turns on any puzzle. Just know those extra turns start at 900 acorns and that price goes up with each subsequent use on the same puzzle. There are also item packs available for purchase that net you acorns as well as café skills. These packs start as low as $3.99, and go all the way up to $79.99, which the game considers a "good value." Spoiler alert, but paying $80 for an item pack in a free-to-play mobile game is neither a good value nor a good idea, and frankly, it's gross the developers present it as such. Those microtransactions are easy to ignore right now, but I have a feeling going forward, they're going to become a lot more tempting. Genius Sonority has already updated the game with new puzzles and dishes, and currently, there is a Scorbunny visiting your café for a limited time. Just like with all the other Pokémon, if you impress them enough, they'll join your team. But as more challenging puzzles are added, getting these limited-time 'mon will arguably become a more trying affair. If your favorite is only there for a week or two, I can see how that could push players into dropping real cash on fake acorns.Right now, however, it has not reached that point of player exploitation where I'd recommend deleting it off your phone entirely. Pokémon Café Mix is currently in that sweet spot where it's mostly harmless with only a few bits of frustration. The puzzle formula is entertaining enough to bring me back two or three times a day to try and get past those roadblocks, but really, I'm firing the app up far more often than that just to get a look at those delectable Pokémon dishes.[This review is based on a retail version of the free-to-play game.] CPU: Info CPU SPEED: Dual Core CPU RAM: 4 GB OS: Microsoft Windows 7.1/8/8.1/10 VIDEO CARD: Graphics card with DX10 (shader model 4.0) capabilities PIXEL SHADER: 4.0 VERTEX SHADER: 4.0 FREE DISK SPACE: 3 GB

  16. Nine Parchments (PC, PS4, Switch [reviewed], Xbox One) Developer: FrozenByte Publisher: FrozenByte Released: December 5, 2017 (PC, PS4, Switch) / March 7, 2018 (Xbox One) MSRP: $19.99 We've done a few late-in-the-game reviews before in Destructoid's history. If enough people ask, we'll do it!Such is the case for Nine Parchments, which actually launched in 2017 on PC, PS4 and Switch and 2018 on Xbox One. We've basically covered every Frozenbyte game since 2009, so why not? As one of the few action RPG (aRPG) joints on the Switch, I've had numerous requests that we cover Nine Parchments, so here we are!Folks, it is what it says on the tin. Think Diablo meets high fantasy with light trolling friendly fire elements (a trend in the past few years where co-op participants can damage each other) and a dash of goofiness. These things are a dime a dozen on PC but rarer on consoles. The reason for that is simple: it's a tall order to translate action RPG sensibilities to a controller and not everyone is up for the task. Frozenbyte mostly pulled it off, at least as far as the basics are concerned. As a multiplatform project from the ground up Nine Parchments was built for controllers by way of a twin-stick setup. Throwing fireballs is a cinch with an easy-to-identify targeting beam (color-coded for each party member), as are grenade-like spells with a circular radial marker that can be pinpointed. Whether it's a short-range blast that emanates from your fingertips or a lengthy lob, everything feels as it should. The 30FPS limitation (at 1080p docked and 720p undocked) on Switch can take a hit when there's a ton of enemies on-screen, but for 95% of my full playthrough, it held consistently. The whole friendly fire angle can be tweaked to avoid extreme frustration (some of the spells hit so hard that they'll knock teammates out almost instantly) in the options menu with a 50/50 damage split between aggressor and victim. It's especially useful for the damage over time (DoT) spells that can tick your health down in seconds. Where Nine Parchments starts to fall apart is when it attempts to move outside of its lane as an action RPG and draw you into its mostly non-existent world. Cutscenes are scattered and feel unfinished, with sporadic voice acting (much of the quest is framed by 10-second voicework at the start of a level). Enemy designs start to blend together and even boss fights have a tendency to reuse direct cannon-fodder analogs. There's some attempt at world-building here with light links to the beloved Trine series, but by the time the credits rolled and the day was saved I had already forgotten anything that made Nine Parchments unique from an aesthetic standpoint. If you look at it as a mindless arcade action game, it has more merit. The way spells interact with one another is a feat all on its own, and despite the low floor, there is potential for some degree of tactical nuance. Swapping elements to take on a particularly tough pack of resistant baddies is fun on the fly, as is coordinating with your group and building your team with an array of spells. That progression system is far from rewarding, as most of the big alterations come from the too few boss battles that grant new skills from an individual pool (with an option to randomly award yourself with a spell no one in the group took). It's more time for group chatter and strategy, sure, but most of the time you can just pick an element you don't have already and be done with it. Hard and hardcore modes will only call the most dedicated of players (they generally feel the same) as will all of the cosmetic hats and samey select few character/variation unlocks. With a stronger connection to the world and a more rewarding progression system, Nine Parchments could have been more than a fleeting arcade fancy. If you can find it on sale (which it has hosted many times since launch) and can wrangle up three other people, it's a decent party game that will fill a single afternoon.[This review is based on a retail build of the game purchased by the reviewer.] CPU: Info CPU SPEED: Dual Core CPU RAM: 4 GB OS: Microsoft Windows 7.1/8/8.1/10 VIDEO CARD: Graphics card with DX10 (shader model 4.0) capabilities PIXEL SHADER: 4.0 VERTEX SHADER: 4.0 FREE DISK SPACE: 3 GB
  17. With the advancement in technology, computers are now connected to the internet most of the time. Even for most users, some of the work-related stuff is dependent on internet-powered tools.Even for casual home users, internet connectivity has become a necessity to access information or to just consume media content through Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. However, as your computer system connects to the outside world, the security risk also increases. But, Windows 10 operating system comes with an in-built security tool named Windows Defender.Although the primary job of the Windows Defender application on the Windows 10 OS is to protect the system from viruses and malware, the company has also added other powerful features, like exploit mitigation. In this guide, we will show you a step-by-step process on how you can enable and configure the exploit protection feature through Windows Defender application on your Windows 10 computer.Open Windows Defender on your computer. To do so, go to Start Menu and type in “Windows Defender” and click on the first application that you get in the search results — Windows Defender Security Center. Now, in the Windows Defender, click on “App & Browser Control.”Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and find “Exploit Protection.”In the new window that opens, customize the system as well as program settings based on your preference.Step 5: When done, just click on the “Apply” button and that’s it. To make sure that your Windows 10 computer is protected, make sure that you are doing the following tasks, which are quite crucial when it comes to the security of your system and to protect your computer.Install all the latest Windows updates. If you have disabled the automatic update on your computer, make sure to manually update at regular intervals.Whenever Microsoft releases a major or latest version update for the operating system, make a point to install the newer version. You can also run a full system scan periodically on your computer using the Windows Defender. It’s also a good idea to install a third-party anti-virus or anti-malware software on your device

Boarding schools are gearing up to accommodate pupils who will be required quarantine upon arrival, with a view of restarting courses in September, Tes has been told. And confidence is growing the overseas students will come back with interest reported from Hong Kong and China.Robin Fletcher, Boarding School Association chief executive, said: “I think a lot of boarding schools will be looking to offer services for students who do need to get through quarantine from probably the middle of August to achieve that fourteen-day window – that’s something which I think a lot of schools are looking at."“I don’t think that will be unusual to see boarding schools offering that sort of arrangement.”Demand for a British education from overseas families was still high despite the Covid-19 crisis, he added.“We are hearing from across the world that there is very strong demand," he said."We have taken part in webinars with parents in Hong Kong an China, with thousands of parents involved, asking questions, about the schools and when they can reopen, so I think the demand is there.”He added that the announcement of the bespoke immigration route for British National Overseas would spur further interest from Hong Kong.Commenting on the announcement that citizens of some countries will be exempted from quarantine requirements upon arrival in England, Mr Fletcher said: “It is good news, because obviously we have parents around the world who are very very keen to let their children come back to UK schools and we have got UK schools who are very keen to welcome back those students“So anything that can make that process easier for schools and for families is very welcome news indeed.”

This here is the Spider version, and we've been putting the 710bhp drop-top through its paces on UK roads to see if it really is a match for the two other super-Spiders on the market: the Lamborghini Huracan Evo and McLaren 720S. Volkswagen hasn't officially unwrapped its new Golf R hot hatch yet, but a recently spotted prototype told us nearly everything we wanted to know. Will it have massive brake discs? Yup. Lower suspension than the standard car? Of course. Unmissable quad-exit sports exhausts? You bet. So that's the design all but revealed. Now all we need to do is get behind the wheel of the 329bhp AMG baiter and find out what it's made of. I wouldn’t buy one without a service history because they’re 10-15 years old, and lots of people have bought one and spent £10,000 on it in the first year, which is ridiculous. One of ours has 195,000 miles on the clock and another 160,000, and they’re fine.”Angus Leat there, from Land Rover specialist AHL Engineering, explaining concisely why the acclaimed Discovery 3 is both one of the most desirable but risky second-hand cars on the market. Sure, it will carry seven people comfortably across the most challenging terrain you can find, but only if you buy a good one. This week, we told you everything you need to know about bagging a solid example of the luxo-truck. Any in-car audio entertainment aside from conversation didn't really exist in the early days of mass car production, when radio (or wireless, as we should really call it, old chap) before technology had progressed enough that receiver sets could be offered. But in 1925, we reported on an advance in radio technology that would make portable entertainment properly practicable for motorists. In BMW's announcement of a wide-reaching new connected car software rollout this week, a small nugget of information became a big talking point: the brand will now use a subscription-based scheme for car options. Essentially, what this means is that your BMW will now be sold with optional software and hardware already installed, but not switched on.Debate-worthy the decision may be, but it's not as mad as it sounds. 23. River City Girls (PS4 [reviewed], PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch) Developer: WayForward Games Publisher: Arc System Works Released: September 5, 2019 MSRP: $29.99 A lot of things blew up big in the late '80s: Bermuda shorts, TMNT, those shirts that changed colour when you got hot, displaying your sweat stains to the world. Also po[CENSORED]r, as far as video games were concerned, was the scrolling beat-'em-up genre, or "brawler", as you kids call it today.By the time the '90s dawned, the arcades were full of titles that featured the simple construct of patrolling the streets, mashing evil faces and eating chicken out of oil drums. Final Fight, Double Dragon, Vendetta, and X-Men were all games built on repetitive action, but they kept the coins rolling in thanks to their great visuals/music and addictive co-op gameplay. Eventually the industry moved on and, as the arcade gave way to Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, and other one-on-one fighters, the simplicity of the brawler fell by the wayside. There were, however, a few brands that kept flying the flag for the genre. And in Japan, no franchise did this with as much pride as Kunio-kun, better known in the west via the River City series. Since the 1986 release of Nekketsu Kōha Kunio-kun (or Renegade), this long-running franchise has kept the spirit of the street brawler alive for generations. Indeed, this week sees the release of brand new entry River City Girls, developed by Shantae helmers WayForward Games. But, some 33 years since Kunio-kun's debut, is there still a place for the humble brawler in 2019? Straighten your school tie and knuckle up, we're gonna find out.Good luck, kid. River City Girls is the story of rebellious besties Misako and Kyoko who, whilst slumbering in detention, receive a text message announcing the disappearance of their respective boyfriends Kunio and Riki (the heroes of multiple River City games). Without a second's notice, the girls realise the best course of action is to break out of school, take to the streets, and beat the living shit out of everybody they come across in the name of love. That's life in River City.As they journey across town, kicking ass and forgetting names, Kyoko and Misako bump into a host of familiar faces, recognisable characters which will make Kunio-kun fans squeal with delight, without excluding newcomers from the fun. The girls also meet some brilliantly conceived enemies and boss characters - including a few surprise cameos - while on their dangerous mission to track down their missing beaus. The River City Girls narrative is spirited and entertaining, with some frequently laugh-out-loud funny dialogue. Things unravel a little toward the climax, unfortunately, culminating in a strange ending of convenience that, while amusing, is quite sudden and pretty unsatisfying.Regardless, the journey to said climax is wholesome fun, littered with great jokes and genuinely heart-warming moments. Seeing appearances from River City alumni such as Misuzu - still shoulder-charging me into submission over 25 years later - shows the reverence held by WayForward for Kunio-kun. It's a passion for the source material that embodies River City Girls from scene one to the end credits. River City Girls isn't a brawler in the Streets of Rage/Final Fight sense: a linear arcade game where players progress through a series of left-to-right stages. Nor is it an RPG in a literal sense. The truth lies somewhere between these two genres. In River City Girls, one or two players (local co-op only) brawl their way through an ever-expanding map, battling through various locations such as a school, a shopping mall, a fairground, a scrapyard and so on, all housed within the city's six zones. Enemies respawn in these locations constantly, and occasionally players will be "locked" into a screen until a throng of baddies are defeated.Kyoko and Misako travel back and forth across these zones, speaking with allies, completing side quests and gathering info, all in valiant efforts to find Kunio and Riki. Although chapters are clearly delineated by boss fights, the whole map - from first screen to last - remains open throughout the entire game. River City Girls is, essentially, a scaled-down open-world adventure, in keeping with some previous installments in the series. While bustin' heads, Kyoko and Misako earn XP and cash. The former powers up stats to help the dynamic duo venture into more dangerous territory, whereas the latter - an important commodity in RCG - is used to purchase supplies, gear and, most importantly, cool new moves for each girl's arsenal. Both Kyoko and Misako have their own individual move sets, which start slim but build into a catalogue of bone-shattering strikes, throws, running, and jumping maneuvers. Kyoko seems to have better combo potential, but Misako has the Stone Cold Stunner. The agony of choice... Combat is the spine of River City Girls, and WayForward have done a great job of building a fun and fluid fighting engine. While the adventure begins with simple four-hit strings, combos soon incorporate fighter mechanics such as juggles, wall-bounds, and enders. It does take some time - and a lot of fighting - to get to the point where your character displays true variety in their attacks, and this leads to the central theme of River City Girls' gameplay: You get out of it what you put in.River City Girls is a game that, essentially, gets better as you progress. What starts as a basic - dare I say repetitive - brawler eventually opens up to something more layered, but only once you've taken the deep dive. Unique gear, (for example items that prevent weapons from breaking, or that increase damage against male enemies) can be tactically applied to best fit battles. A unique "Recruit" system lets you call in defeated foes for Marvel vs Capcom-style assists, and your chosen character will eventually become an all-encompassing living weapon, loaded with cool combo attacks and devastating specials. But all of this only really comes together as you progress deeper into the city and get plenty of cash, XP and broken ribs under your belt. As such, a solid commitment to walk-and-brawl gameplay is not only recommended, but required. River City Girls undeniably does great work at evolving the brawler genre, but non-fans may still find fatigue in the hundreds of button-mashing encounters our girls will face en route to glory. Fortunately, this will be nothing new to series/genre fans, who will gladly push through the slowish start, encouraged by RCG's greatest asset: its fantastic audio/visuals. River City Girls absolutely knocks it out of the park in the aesthetics department. River City, its locations and denizens, are all crafted in beautiful, detailed and exquisitely animated pixel art, recalling a glorious bygone age of video games. The splash art used for conversations is delightful, as are the numerous manga-style cut scenes. All of the above brings life to enemies, NPCs, bosses, and the many unique store owners Kyoko and Misako encounter on their shopping sprees - in fact, the retailers are perhaps my favourite characters! All of this visual splendor is backed by a brilliant retro-electro score featuring artists such as Chipzel, and peppered with dramatic, full-vocal songs composed and performed by Megan McDuffee. These pop tracks are utterly infectious, as proven by the fact they have been swimming in my head ever since I first heard them. River City Girls' audio/visual design deserves to rank among some of 2019's finest. In terms of replayability, River City Girls offers a New Game+ option upon completion of its campaign, along with a tougher difficulty setting, numerous collectible quests, and further characters to explore. Ultimately, RCG's lasting appeal comes down to the player's desire to 100% each element of the game, as there are no other modes outside of the main campaign, not even a gallery, which is baffling by its omission. Despite this fairly bare-bones approach, I think River City Girls is worth its asking price, offering several fun sessions of exciting co-op action for you and your own bestie. With River City Girls, WayForward has done stellar work with the Kunio-kun series, having created a love letter to the franchise as inviting to newcomers as it is to series veterans. On the flip side, a commitment to brawler gameplay is definitely required, as RCG only truly finds its sweet spot once players can unleash the potential of our psycho schoolgirls' bone-breaking abilities. A co-op buddy also adds immeasurably to the experience. Here's hoping that this is the start of future titles for Kyoko and Misako, as I'm already thirsty for more action from these great gals.River City Girls succeeds in evolving both the Kunio-kun series and the brawler genre itself, offering entertaining gameplay, brilliant visuals, an amazing soundtrack and fun combat. While brawler fatigue, minor narrative flaws and a slim package threaten the experience, great characters, reverence for the lore and addictive co-op gameplay prevail, ensuring Kyoko and Misako keep throwing fists to the very last round.[This review is based on a retail build of the game provided by the publisher. 24. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s latest multiplayer map is infested with rats, but you can pay the piper to help clean house.Modern Warfare’s mid-season update for Season 4 arrived on June 30, bringing a new multiplayer map to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Cheshire Park is a 6v6 map set in urban London, England. Near the centre of the park is a statue of the German legend, the Pied Piper. The medieval story of the Pied Piper comes from Germany, where the rat-infested town of Hamelin hired a rat-catcher who could lure the pests away with a magical pipe. Unfortunately, the townspeople refused to pay up after the rats were gone, and the Pied Piper retaliated by using the pipe to lure all the children from Hamelin. Pretty creepy and vengeful stuff, but they should’ve paid for an honest day’s work. Completing a series of tasks here in Modern Warfare’s London setting will enlist the aid of the piper, and he’ll summon all the rats with his pipe. Then rats go kaboom. You’ll need to locate and destroy five mouse traps to start the Easter egg on this map. This is actually the most difficult step: There seems to be a ton of possible locations for the traps, and they’ll spawn randomly one by one. Once you find all the traps, you can then begin looking for a cheese wedge. Once you have the wedge, you’ll need to find the larger piece of the cheese wheel. Bringing the cheese back to the statue will activate the Pied Piper, who will start summoning the rats with his pipe. There’s music, candlelight, and bubbles. It’s really quite a show. The rats circle around the statue before exploding into colourful paint blobs. No children are harmed in this Modern Warfare iteration of the Pied Piper, but still, people really should pay the workers or pipers who handle pest control. This was a lot weirder than the minigun-wielding teddy bear Easter egg, but I really love all the detailed eggs Infinity Ward tucked away in Modern Warfare’s maps.
  25. ATMs and point-of-sale (POS) systems have been a target for many cybercriminal groups over the past several years resulting in some of the largest card breaches and money heists in history. While attackers have various ways to break into these machines, researchers now warn that vulnerabilities in the drivers they contain could enable more persistent and damaging attacks.Researchers from Eclypsium, a company that specialises in device security, have evaluated the security of device drivers, the programs that allow applications to talk to a system's hardware components and leverage their capabilities.Over the past year, their research project, dubbed Screwed Drivers, has identified vulnerabilities and design flaws in 40 Windows drivers from at least 20 different hardware vendors, highlighting widespread issues with this attack surface. Most people think of Windows in the context of servers, workstations and laptops, but these are not the only types of devices that run Microsoft's operating system.Windows is also widespread in the world of ATMs, POS terminals, self-service kiosks, medical systems and other types of specialised equipment. These devices are generally harder to update because they're used in regulated industries and environments, so updates need to pass strict testing and certification.Taking them offline for extended periods of time can lead to business disruption and financial loss.Attacks against ATMs can take many forms, the Eclypsium researchers said in aAs part of their research project, the Eclypsium researchers found a vulnerability in a driver used in an ATM model from Diebold Nixdorf, one of the largest manufacturers of devices for the banking and retail sectors. The driver enables applications to access the various x86 I/O ports of such a system.ATMs are essentially computers with specialised peripherals like the card reader, PIN pad, network interfaces or the cash cassettes that are connected through various communication ports. By gaining access to the I/O ports through the vulnerable driver, an attacker can potentially read data exchanged between the ATM's central computer and the PCI-connected devices. Moreover, this driver can be used to update the BIOS, the low-level firmware of a computer that starts before the operating system and initialises the hardware components. By exploiting this functionality, an attacker could deploy a BIOS rootkit that would survive OS re-installations, leading to a highly persistent attack. To the researchers' knowledge, the vulnerability hasn't been exploited in any real-world attack, but based on their discussions with Diebold, they believe the same driver is used in other ATM models as well as POS systems. Diebold worked with the researchers and released patches earlier this year."This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what malicious drivers are capable of," the researchers said. "Our previous research has identified drivers that in addition to arbitrary I/O access, also had the ability to read/write to memory, Model Specific, debug, and control registers, as well as arbitrary PCI access. These capabilities in a vulnerable driver could have a devastating impact on ATM or POS devices. Given that many of the drivers in these devices have not been closely analysed, they are likely to contain undiscovered vulnerabilities."Both ATMs and POS systems have been targeted by hackers. There are cybercrime groups like Carbanak that specialise in breaking into financial institutions such as banks and slowly making their way into their ATM networks. These groups are methodical and patient and can spend months inside networks until they learn a victim's workflows and how its systems work. When they decide to finally pull off the heist, they send money mules to collect cash from hacked ATMs, typically at night.Another group known as FIN7, which is related to Carbanak, specialises in hacking into POS systems and targets companies from the hospitality and retail sectors to steal payment card data. Recently, the group was observed sending malicious USB dongles to their targets via regular mail, under the guise of a Best Buy gift card.Even ransomware gangs have become interested in such systems because locking them could provide a bigger incentive for affected organisations to pay a ransom. Last week Symantec reported that Sodinokibi, one of the most sophisticated ransomware groups currently in operation, started scanning for POS software and systems in the environments they gain access to.Vulnerabilities in drivers like the one found by Eclypsium don't provide hackers with their initial access to a system but can be used to escalate their privileges once they get that initial foothold through some other method. As demonstrated repeatedly by Carbanak, FIN7 and other cybercrime groups, gaining access to networks and systems is not necessarily hard and can be done in a variety of ways."Once you find a vulnerability to get into an ATM computer, you can use this to gain additional privileges and access to some sub-interfaces that would allow you to do more interesting things," Jesse Michael, principal researcher at Eclypsium tells CSO."This gives you some capabilities to go talk to other devices like a peripheral that you want to access to do some operation as part of your attack process, so it's basically a breakdown within these layers of protection."Hiding malware inside the BIOS to survive OS reinstallation could prove very useful to some of these advanced cybercriminal groups, because it means they can hit their targets repeatedly. More destructive attacks that leave devices un-bootable are also possible."This driver talks to the chipset's SPI controller to install BIOS updates, so if you wanted to just brick the system so it wouldn't boot at all, you could just write garbage to the boot block," Michael says.Ransomware attacks in the past have encrypted the master boot record of computers leaving them un-bootable until the victims paid the ransom. Recovering from an attack of this type requires manual intervention and, in the case of ATMs that can be geographically dispersed, it means significant downtime. In the context of POS systems, it could also mean financial loss if all terminals in a store or multiple stores suddenly stopped working. Then there have been attacks like Shamoon that hit Saudi Aramco in 2012, or the attack against Sony Pictures in 2014 that was attributed to North Korea, whose goal was to disrupt normal business operations. Such disruptive attacks could be used to mani[CENSORED]te a company's stock price and profit from it.Eclypsium's research highlights a lack of security by design in device drivers, as most of the issues found are architectural flaws rather than code vulnerabilities. In Michael's opinion, these problems are usually the result of developers fulfilling a business need, like the ability of an application to talk to a hardware component, without putting the proper controls in place."Most of these cases are examples of someone not really thinking through the ramifications of a feature being misused," Michael said. "It's a feature that's useful for their specific task, but they didn't think whether this is something that someone else can use for bad purposes or to do other things."
