  1. Humanoid Origin, the studio founded by former Mass Effect director Casey Hudson in 2021, is ending development of its untitled sci-fi game and shutting its doors, after an "an unexpected shortfall of funding left [it] unable to sustain operations." Hudson, who also served as BioWare general manager before departing the studio in 2020, announced the establishment of Humanoid Origin (initially Humanoid Studios) in June 2021, teasing it was working on an "all-new IP". A year later, Hudson shared a little more information on the "multi-platform AAA game", as well as early concept art, calling it a "character-driven narrative in an all-new science-fiction universe". Today, however, Hudson released a statement announcing the project's termination and the closure of the studio. "Earlier today, we informed our staff that Humanoid Origin will be shutting down," he wrote. "Despite efforts to shield the studio from broader challenges in the industry, an unexpected shortfall of funding left us unable to sustain operations." "We're heartbroken that we will not be able to bring our new science-fiction universe to completion," Hudson continued. "Our main concern at this time however is for our team, and we are committed to supporting them in their transition to new employment. "In our time together, the team achieved incredible progress, and demonstrated that it's possible to do amazing work while fostering a culture of fun and creativity. We thank them for their talent, courage, and friendship. "Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout our journey." Humanoid Origin is the latest studio to be impacted in what continues to be a devastating year for games industry employees, with over 14,000 people estimated to have lost their jobs so far. That's compared to the 10,500 games industry workers who were laid off across the entirety of 2023. Back in March, GamesIndustry.biz's Chris Tring, writing for Eurogamer, took a closer look at the circumstances leading to such massive numbers of job cuts over the last few years. 2. Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has blamed her political opponents for the deadly unrest in the country, adding she was "forced" to impose a curfew for public safety. "We will lift the curfew whenever the situation gets better," she said on Monday in a meeting with business leaders in the capital Dhaka. Security forces are accused of excessive force against student protesters, in which more than 150 people have been killed in the past week. Police have arrested over 1,000 people, including several senior opposition leaders. Ms Hasina's comments came a day after Bangladesh's top court scrapped most of the quotas on government jobs, meeting a key demand of protesters. The rallies have sparked one of the deadliest outbreaks of violence in the country for years and escalated into calls for Ms Hasina to quit. Link: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c72056rg2zpo

  3. The RSPCA has said it is braced for an animal welfare crisis this summer after reporting a jump in cruelty in the first half of 2024. The charity said it got 44,800 reports of cruelty across England and Wales between January and the end of June - up by nearly 1,000 compared to the same period last year. In January, two Hampshire brothers who filmed themselves as they tortured animals in “sickening” attacks were jailed. In footage not seen publicly before, Kristen Cooper, then 24, was seen laughing about inflicting pain on a deer during a police interview. Link: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c8803gj12d3o
  4. This would cap monthly imports at 8,000 cars, a significant reduction from the 90,000 cars imported last year The Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib has called on automotive dealers and agents to limit their import requests for 2025 to 5% of the total cars imported in 2023, unnamed sources familiar with the matter told Asharq Business. This would cap monthly imports at 8,000 cars, a significant reduction from the 90,000 cars imported last year. The move follows earlier reports which suggested that Egypt plans to reduce the car import quota by 20%, lowering the monthly limit from 10,000 to 8,000 cars, in a bid to conserve foreign currency and reduce import dependence. © 2020-2023 Arab Finance For Information Technology. 5. Even before his injury-curtailed role in France’s opening 1-0 win over Austria at Euro 2024, Kylian Mbappe had hit the headlines for speaking out about the forthcoming French elections. “Extremes are at the gates of power,” the France captain warned during his pre-match press conference, adding: “I don’t want to represent a country that doesn’t correspond to my values or our values.” French President Emmanuel Macron called a snap parliamentary election after Marine le Pen’s far-right National Rally (RN) claimed victory in France’s European elections earlier this month. There will be a first round of voting on 30 June, with a second round to follow on 7 July. Mbappe’s comments have prompted lively debate in France about the extent to which professional footballers should get involved in politics. He is not alone in the France squad in having broached the subject in recent days. Ousmane Dembele, Olivier Giroud and Benjamin Pavard had all encouraged their compatriots to vote in the elections, before Marcus Thuram went a step further by explicitly urging the people of France to prevent RN from gaining power. “The situation is very, very serious,” the Inter Milan striker said. “It’s the sad reality of our society today. “As a citizen, whether that’s you or me, we all need to fight every day so that this doesn’t happen and RN doesn’t succeed.” The French Football Federation subsequently released a statement clarifying that, although players were permitted to express themselves freely, as an organisation it was politically neutral. Mbappe carefully avoided mentioning any political parties by name, but said he agreed with what Thuram had said. “I share the same values as Marcus,” Mbappe said when he addressed journalists on Sunday. “I’m talking about the values of tolerance, diversity and respect. Of course I’m with him.” Thuram’s intervention was unusual, for a French footballer, but not unexpected. His father, former France right-back Lilian Thuram, is a renowned anti-racism advocate and named him after the Jamaican civil rights activist Marcus Garvey. Thuram Jnr has spoken out to denounce discrimination in the past. Mbappe’s comments were more out of character. Although he has links to the socialist former mayor of his hometown of Bondy, Sylvine Thomassin - who is close friends with his mother, Fayza Lamari - he had never previously given an indication of his political leanings. The 25-year-old superstar, who signed for Real Madrid shortly before the European Championship began, has long been courted by the French political establishment because of his huge national po[CENSORED]rity and confident communication style. Macron first invited him to a diplomatic lunch at the Elysee Palace in February 2018, when Mbappe was only 19. More recently, Macron helped persuade Mbappe to stay in France when he was considering leaving Paris St-Germain in 2022. Macron has also put pressure on Real Madrid to reverse their decision to ban their players – and therefore Mbappe – from competing in the football tournament at this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris. Mbappe attended another dinner at the Elysee Palace in February this year, which was staged in honour of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim. Macron has reportedly been trying to encourage Qatar, which has owned PSG since 2011, to use its broadcasting company BeIn Sports to break a deadlock in negotiations over the rights to televise matches in France’s Ligue 1 championship from next season. National Rally criticised Mbappe for his comments about the elections. “I don’t expect people who are quite disconnected from reality to be lecturing the people of France,” said the party’s vice-president Sebastien Chenu. Historically, French footballers have been reluctant to speak out about politics. But Zinedine Zidane, Mbappe’s predecessor as figurehead of Les Bleus, made a similar intervention in April 2002 when he urged people not to vote for Jean-Marie le Pen – Marine’s father and founder of RN – in the presidential election. Young voters, who Mbappe specifically addressed in his message, are a key target for the parties contesting the French elections. RN’s 28-year-old president Jordan Bardella is a prolific TikTok user and his anti-immigration party garnered 25% of the votes of 18-24 year olds in the recent European polls. So could Mbappe and Thuram’s interventions shift the political dial? “The discussion around this could possibly impact the election in the sense that it could mobilise younger voters, who maybe weren’t thinking of voting or who didn’t even know there was an election,” says Philippe Marliere, who is a professor of French and European politics at University College London. “There’s always high abstention among young voters in France, particularly those from the banlieues [urban suburbs] and from ethnic minority backgrounds. Mbappe and Thuram both come from the suburbs and they are both from ethnic minorities. Their warning will probably fail to impact the white, working-class, unemployed [voters] who support Marine le Pen. But for young people from the suburbs who weren’t thinking about voting, it could be a wake-up call.” Link: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/cw44m9pgmpro

  6. People can reverse their type 2 diabetes by going on a strict 900-calorie-a-day liquid diet offered by the NHS. Sticking to it may be challenging though, results suggest. Dieters must endure a few months of consuming only shakes, soups and meal-replacement bars, before healthy solid foods can be gradually reintroduced. Of many thousands invited, hundreds completed the year-long programme, findings published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology journalreveal. A third shed lots of weight - nearly two-and-a-half stone (16kg) - and put their diabetes into remission. The programme is being offered to people around England. It is separate from the weight loss jab Wegovy that will be provided by some specialist NHS weight-loss management services. Diabetes UK said people should be supported to find the approach that is most appropriate for them – whether that involves medication, dietary changes or bariatric surgery. The shake and soup diet programme is fully funded by the NHS, so there is no cost for the individual. They get bespoke diet and exercise advice sessions in person or online, as well as support from their GP. Experts say the opportunity can be truly life-changing for people - if they can stick at it. Unmanaged, diabetes can increase the risk of getting other serious health problems and damage the eyes and nerves. Dr Clare Hambling, NHS national clinical director for diabetes and obesity, said: "Obesity is one of the biggest threats to health in the UK and will be one of the biggest and most costly challenges for health systems globally, so seeing such encouraging outcomes from our programme shows that obesity can be tackled head-on." People are eligible if they are: between 18 and 65 have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes within the last six years have a body mass index (BMI) over 27 kg/m2 (if from white ethnic groups) or over 25 kg/m2 (if from black, Asian and other ethnic groups) Only follow a very low-calorie diet if your doctor has recommended it to you. Marie Laing, from Frome in Somerset, told BBC News that she was able to lose more than three stone on the NHS soup and shake diet. Mrs Laing told BBC Radio Somerset: "The GP suggested I try this after I'd tried other things myself and hadn't succeeded, and I'm really grateful. "This remission programme isn't a diet - it's a lifestyle change. Learning about your body, how food impacts you, why you crave food, how you should exercise... and it isn't stopping you having anything. "It's improved my exercise and being able to be with my children and family, and being out and about and doing things that I love." She added: "It's not easy, but it is well worth it to be able to have your life back." Another user, Juliet, told the BBC: "During the total diet replacement phase, I expected to feel hungry but I didn’t and the products actually kept me going. I enjoyed most of them too – although my particular favourites were the red Thai soup and shepherd’s pie." Dr Nerys Astbury, associate professor of diet & obesity at the University of Oxford, said: "We don’t know how long the remission will last, or how achieving remission can affect the risk of developing diabetes in the future. But we do know that losing weight has huge health benefits in all groups, particularly people living with type 2 diabetes." Link: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czjyy7280lzo

  7. Rabat - Morocco ranked 79th out of 131 countries in the Portulans Institute’s Network Readiness Index, which measures the application and impact of information and communication technologies (ICT) in global economies. The ranking put Morocco in 8th place among the group of lower-middle income countries, according to the report, and 9th in the Arab World. The index said Morocco performs particularly well in e-commerce legislation, ICT service exports, and high-tech and medium-high-tech manufacturing. The weakest indicators for the North African country were education quality, adult literacy rate, and online access to financial accounts, among others. The US, Singapore, and Sweden topped the ranking, as well as their group of high-income countries. Ukraine, Indonesia, and India made the top 3 the group of lower-middle income states, in which Morocco was also placed. In the Arab region, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar were the top 3. Meanwhile, South Africa, Mauritius, and Kenya ranked the best in Africa. The Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, and Chad were in the bottom three of the ranking. With expert opinions and reports citing digitalization and improvement of internet access as key to future social and economic advancement in Morocco, the country has made improving its digital infrastructure a priority. Despite this, several reports have pointed out that Morocco lags behind, particularly in the financial sector. A report released earlier this year uncovered that 98% of transactions in Morocco are still conducted in cash. 11. Primark is set to open in Tunbridge Wells town centre. The retail chain, which has 191 stores in the UK, has purchased the former BHS site on Calverley Road with a view to creating a two-storey shop. Primark has said renovation works on the site at the council-owned Royal Victoria Place shopping centre will begin shortly. The announcement follows the council's consultation on plans to regenerate the town centre by 2040. Tunbridge Wells Borough Council said it hopes the move will bring jobs and an economic boost to the town centre. Justine Rutland, deputy leader and cabinet member for economic development, said: "It was really important to us to see the former BHS unit filled with a store that many residents, especially young people, have been asking for, and which will complement existing businesses." Tunbridge Wells MP Mike Martin said: "Stores like Primark are what are called anchor tenants and they bring other stores, and much increased footfall, to towns." In March 2023, the council's business plan reported 28% of Royal Victoria Place's units were empty. In 2023, the council bought the centre's lease from British Land and appointed developers RivingtonHark to manage the centre. In July, Nando's announced it would open a restaurant in the former Gateway building on Grosvenor Road. The shopping centre unit bought by Primark is currently occupied by Homeland Furniture, which announced its closure in June. The retail property was once home to BHS before the chain went into administration in 2016. Primark London and South East sales director Philippa Nibbs said: "We know our customers have wanted a Primark here for a long time." Link: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ckgwlev15eeo
  12. More than 50 animals have been taken from an animal rescue centre during a raid by police and other agencies. Dogs, puppies, a cat and kittens, and five tortoises were surrendered under animal welfare laws at CAARS animal rescue in Essington near Wolverhampton, officers said. After police earlier described the conditions as “appalling”, the BBC tried to contact the centre but with no response. Tuesday’s raid was carried out by Staffordshire Police with council, veterinary, RSPCA and dog handling teams. South Staffordshire Council is leading an investigation. All the animals were checked by vets and were being taken to approved, licensed kennels including Birmingham Dogs Home. The police Facebook post said: “Hopefully they’ll warm up and be looked after properly from now on – and maybe even find their forever homes.” The force said 34 dogs, 19 puppies, one cat, five kittens and five tortoises were surrendered under animal welfare legislation and were being looked after at alternative locations. The action was prompted by multiple complaintsalleging potential illegal activities relating to animal welfare and licensing concerns, officers said. A council spokesman said complaints were received about dogs and cats reportedly living in squalid conditions, triggering a coordinated investigation. An investigation was ongoing, the council added, and the authority was unable to comment further until an outcome was reached. Councillor Rita Heseltine, cabinet member for regulatory services at the district council thanked members of the public for coming forward. She said: “We are committed to investigating issues related to licensing and animal welfare fully and taking action where necessary to protect animals.” An RSPCA spokesman said: “We are so grateful to people who report suspected animal suffering and urge anyone with concerns about the welfare of an animal to report them to the relevant authorities.” Sgt Craig Beardsley, from the county’s proactive and rural crime team, said: “We’re determined to continue working with our local partners in Staffordshire to tackle the issues affecting rural communities the most. “Only by working together can we continue to take action.” Link: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cpqdp4rynw3o
  13. Lotus CEO Feng Qingfeng has announced at the Guangzhou, China, auto show that Lotus will introduce plug-in-hybrid range-extender powertrains, as reported by Autocar. The setup will use turbocharged gas engines and will be capable of ultra-rapid charging thanks to a 900-volt electrical architecture. Lotus has not said when the system will arrive and in which models we can expect to see it. A few years ago, Lotus announced big plans to go electric. The Emira sports car was set to be the brand's final internal-combustion vehicle, and Lotus has since launched the electric Eletre SUV and Emeya sedan in global markets. These two models were due to be followed by a smaller electric SUV and an EV sports car. But now Lotus is backtracking, announcing that it will introduce plug-in hybrids featuring internal-combustion engines in the near future, as reported by Autocar. The decision was confirmed by Lotus CEO Feng Qingfeng at the Guangzhou auto show in China, Autocar reported. The range-extender plug-in-hybrid system, which Feng dubbed "Super Hybrid," will combine a turbocharged gas engine with batteries that support ultra-rapid charging. The company aims to use the range-extender gas engine to boost the overall driving range to 680 miles. Link: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a62979639/lotus-plug-in-hybrid-range-extender-reported/
  14. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Roman Josi scored twice and Jonathan Marchessault scored a goal and assisted on another to lead the Nashville Predators to a 4-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night. Steven Stamkos also scored and Juuse Saros made 22 saves for the Predators, winners of two of three. Adam Lowry scored and Eric Comrie made 32 saves for Winnipeg, which had a two-game winning streak snapped. Nashville played their first home game after returning from a two-week, five-game road trip where it went 1-2-2. Stamkos’ third period goal came on a Nashville power play. Six of his seven goals on the season have come with the man-advantage, and he has three power-play goals over the last three games. Takeaways Jets: Winnipeg split their first back-to-back set of games this season. Even though their win at Pittsburgh on Friday night was over an Eastern Conference team and Saturday’s loss came to a fellow Central Division team, the Jets entered Saturday 19 points ahead of the Predators in the standings. Predators: After a disastrous start to the season, getting a victory against the best team in the NHL so far this season could provide some confidence for a team that entered Saturday with a league-low 15 standings points. 15. A Jersey-based charity providing specially designed beach wheelchairs for people with disabilities has reflected on a successful summer season. BeachAbility said leadership, strong partnerships and a grant from the Association of Jersey Charities contributed to the successful season. The charity said every year there was "significant impact access" to the island's beaches for about 150 wheelchair users. Alongside appointing a new leadership team, the charity said it also recruited a summer worker to ensure beach wheelchairs were well-maintained. 'Dedicated volunteers' BeachAbility chairwoman Beth Gallichan said: "We're incredibly grateful to Jersey Employment Trust for helping us find the right person and to the Association of Jersey Charities for their financial support, which enabled us to continue providing uninterrupted service through the summer. "Thanks to funding and the generosity of our dedicated volunteers, locals and visitors alike can enjoy our beautiful south coast beaches using accessible wheelchairs. "This access allows people to fully experience Jersey's stunning coastline alongside friends and family, a vital part of our local culture and lifestyle." 16. On Thursday, the Ukrainian city of Dnipro was hit by a Russian air strike which eyewitnesses described as unusual, triggering explosions that went on for three hours. The attack included a strike by a missile so powerful that in the aftermath Ukrainian officials said it bore the characteristics of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). Western officials were quick to deny this, saying that such a strike would have triggered a nuclear alert in the US. Hours after the strike, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a TV address, said that Russia had launched a "new conventional intermediate-range" missile with the codename Oreshnik, meaning hazel tree in Russian. Putin said that the weapon travelled at a speed of Mach 10, or 2.5-3km per second (10 times the speed of sound), adding that "there are currently no ways of counteracting this weapon". He said that a major military-industrial site in Dnipro, used to manufacture missiles and other armaments, had been hit. He described the attack as a test which was "successful" because the "target was reached". Speaking a day later to senior defence officials, he said tests of the missile would continue, "including in combat conditions". Putin's description of the weapon notwithstanding, there seems to be no clear consensus about what it actually is. Ukrainian military intelligence maintains that the missile is a new type of ICBM known as Kedr (cedar). They say it was travelling at Mach 11 and took 15 minutes to arrive from the launch site, more than 1,000km (620 miles) away in the Astrakhan region of Russia. They said the missile was equipped with six warheads, each with six sub-munitions. This assumption is backed up by BBC Verify's examination of video footage of the strike. Most of it is blurry or of poor quality, but it clearly shows six flashes against the night sky, each comprised of a cluster of six individual projectiles. The location that was hit is an industrial area to the southwest of Dnipro city. Why is speed important? If Putin's description is correct, the missile is at the upper edge of the definition of hypersonic, and few things can achieve this. Speed is important because the faster a missile travels, the quicker it gets to target. The quicker it gets to target, the less time a defending military has to react. A ballistic missile generally gets to target by following an arcing path up into the atmosphere and a similar one down towards its destination. But as it descends, it picks up speed and gains kinetic energy, and more kinetic energy gives it more options. This allows it to manoeuvre down towards the target - by performing some kind of defending wriggle - that makes interception by surface-to-air missile systems (such as Ukraine's US-built Patriot defence missile system) particularly difficult. This is not new for militaries that have to defend against such threats of course, but the greater the speed, the harder it becomes. That is why Putin has likely placed emphasis on its speed in announcing this new type of missile. Some 80% of the missiles fired by Russia have been intercepted by Ukraine, an extraordinary figure. But these faster speeds of ballistic missiles are intended to try to bring that percentage down. Link: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvg07zw9vj1o
  17. The 5G subscription in India is estimated to have reached about 10 million by 2022 end, and is seen accounting for about 57 percent of mobile subscriptions in the country by the end of 2028, making it "the fastest growing" 5G region globally, according to Ericsson Mobility Report. With the launch of 5G services in October 2022, the major 5G Indian market is witnessing huge network deployments under its Digital India initiative, it observed. The geopolitical challenges and macroeconomic slowdown in some markets notwithstanding, communications service providers globally are continuing to invest in 5G, the June 2023 edition of the Ericsson Mobility Report revealed. "5G subscriptions in India reached about 10 million by end of 2022 and are estimated to account for about 57 percent of mobile subscriptions in the country by the end of 2028, making it the fastest growing 5G region globally," it said. The fifth generation mobile subscriptions are growing in every region and forecast to top 1.5 billion globally by the end of 2023. The uptake of 5G subscriptions in North America has been stronger than expected in previous forecasts. The region had the highest 5G global subscription penetration at 41 percent at the end of 2022. Global mobile network data traffic continues to rise with the monthly global average usage per smartphone expected to exceed 20GB by the end of 2023. The report also highlighted the continued revenue growth in leading 5G markets. "The global adoption of 5G technology has surpassed one billion subscriptions, bringing positive revenue growth for communications service providers in leading 5G markets," Fredrik Jejdling, Executive Vice President and Head of Networks, Ericsson, said. In the past two years, the 5G introduction in the top twenty markets has resulted in a seven per cent revenue boost, Jejdling said, underlining a strong link between the increase in 5G subscriptions and service revenue. Globally, around 240 communications service providers (CSPs) have launched commercial 5G services and about 35 have deployed or launched 5G standalone (SA). The most common 5G services launched by service providers for consumers are enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), gaming and some (Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality) AR/VR-based services, such as training and education. The report also reveals that 5G continues to drive innovation in mobile service packaging. Among communications service providers, it is increasingly common to offer bundles with various po[CENSORED]r entertainment services such as television, music streaming or cloud gaming platforms. About 58 percent of 5G service providers currently do so in various forms. As per Ericsson, by 2028, 5G is estimated to account for almost 80 per cent of all FWA connections. 18. Malwarebytes has acquired Swedish VPN provider AzireVPN, expanding its privacy-focused product portfolio. The deal, announced on November 7, integrates AzireVPN’s server infrastructure and privacy technologies into Malwarebytes’ suite of consumer-focused security tools. The deal’s financial terms were not disclosed The acquisition marks an expansion of Malwarebytes’ privacy offerings, which include Malwarebytes Privacy VPN and the free Malwarebytes Browser Guard web extension. The latter makes it virtually impossible for third-parties to modify or intercept user traffic. According to Mark Beare, General Manager of Malwarebytes’ consumer business, the company aims to “reimagine consumer cybersecurity” with its latest acquisition, focusing on protecting devices and data regardless of users’ location or financial resources. Enhanced privacy infrastructure A vital element of the acquisition is AzireVPN’s server infrastructure. The Swedish company is known for its distinctive approach to server management, physically owning and controlling all of its dedicated diskless servers. Malwarebytes has confirmed its commitment to maintaining this practice, which provides users with an additional layer of security and privacy. Perhaps the most notable technology acquired in the deal is AzireVPN’s Blind Operator feature. This security measure disables both remote and local access to servers, creating what the company describes as a robust barrier against unauthorised traffic interception. The technology makes it “virtually impossible” for any party to modify or tap the traffic on its servers or access user information. In the immediate term, both companies’ existing customers will see no changes to services. Malwarebytes Privacy VPN users will retain their current user experience, with the company maintaining its no-log service policy that helps prevent the tracking, storing, or sharing of user network data. Similarly, AzireVPN customers will continue to receive their existing VPN service, maintaining the company’s features which comprise: The acquisition is part of a strategic push by Malwarebytes into the privacy sector. Mark Beare emphasized the company’s long-standing advocacy for user privacy, suggesting that this acquisition will enable the development of more advanced VPN technologies and fe“We’re leaning even more on our mission to reimagine consumer cybersecurity,” Beare stated in the announcement. “With AzireVPN’s infrastructure and intellectual property, Malwarebytes is poised to develop more advanced VPN technologies and features, offering increased flexibility and enhanced security for our users.” atures. While specific integration plans have not been detailed, Malwarebytes has indicated that new VPN offerings are currently in development, with plans to leverage AzireVPN’s technology and infrastructure to introduce new features in the coming months. The VPN market has grown significantly in recent years, driven by increasing concerns about online privacy and data security. The acquisition positions Malwarebytes to compete more effectively in the market, particularly in the premium privacy-focused segment where AzireVPN has built its reputation. Delivering Performance for Gamers Combined with the advanced "Zen 5" processor architecture, the AMD 3D V-Cache technology works to attain the highest processor gaming performance on the market. While the generational uplift in average FPS is about 8%, many games such as Star Wars Outlaws will experience double-digit percentage improvements generationally. What's more, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor can demonstrate substantial generational improvements in minimum frame rates even when average frame rates are similar, providing the user with an experience that feels smoother, with less stutter - for instance, in The Last Of Us: Part 1, where the Ryzen 7 9800X3D has a similar average frame rate compared to the competition, but a 31% higher 1% low frame rate. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is the ultimate solution for the PC gaming market, with eight high-performance "Zen 5" processor cores and 16 processing threads ready to make quick work of gaming and productivity tasks. 4.7 GHz base clock speed is combined with a 5.2 GHz max boost clock, and these represent the highest clock speeds ever on an X3D chiplet. A hearty 120 W TDP and its huge 104 MB of total cache provides the processor with the power it needs to perform. 20. The current top post on the Monster Hunter subreddit, with nearly 4,000 upvotes, is simply titled WE DEFEATED GENDER completely bereft of any context. Thankfully just below it is the news that Monster Hunter players have been waiting to hear for years: for the first time in Wilds, armor designs will no longer be locked between male and female characters. "In previous Monster Hunter games, male and female armor were separate," said one of Capcom's developers during an hour-long livestreamed presentation at Gamescom today. "I'm happy to confirm that in Monster Hunter Wilds, there's no more male and female armor. All characters can wear any gear." Key to the "loop" of Monster Hunter is fighting the same beasts many times over to collect their body parts to use in the crafting of better armor and weapons. While the armor you craft from, say, famed series wyvern Rathalos has the same stats regardless of your character's gender, its physical appearance is completely different. Male armor broadly leans bulkier, while female armor generally tends to show more skin—shocking, I know. That's not the case with every armor set, but often the designs were quite different. That was frustrating with players who loved the look of, say, the female Rathalos Alpha armor set but happened to be playing a male character. In Monster Hunter: World you had to use a one-time free character edit voucher to change your character's gender and design, and pay up $3 for another one after that. While Monster Hunter Rise dropped the terms male and female, the armor differences between body "type 1" and "type 2" remained, with the same character voucher restriction in place. Wilds may still end up requiring you to pony up a couple bucks for a voucher to redesign your character, but now that armor designs are no longer locked to body type, one of the key reasons to do so is gone. Presumably Monster Hunter's "layered armor" system will also be returning in Wilds, letting you visually wear one type of armor while retaining the stats of another set underneath. All that is to say, get ready for Monster Hunter fans to show off their hunting fashion like never before when Wilds comes out next year. "Fashion game is officially the endgame," Capcom's community manager Jonno Stanton quipped during the stream. He's not wrong. Wes has been covering games and hardware for more than 10 years, first at tech sites like The Wirecutter and Tested before joining the PC Gamer team in 2014. Wes plays a little bit of everything, but he'll always jump at the chance to cover emulation and Japanese games. When he's not obsessively optimizing and re-optimizing a tangle of conveyor belts in Satisfactory (it's really becoming a problem), he's probably playing a 20-year-old Final Fantasy or some opaque ASCII roguelike. With a focus on writing and editing features, he seeks out personal stories and in-depth histories from the corners of PC gaming and its niche communities. 50% pizza by volume (deep dish, to be specific). 23. Proposals to increase income tax have been blasted as "lazy, crude and cruel" by a former States economist. In a letter to all deputies, seen by the BBC, Dr Andy Sloan said a move by Policy and Resources (P&R) to temporarily increase income tax of 2p in the pound is not fiscally competitive or fair. Dr Sloan claimed the increase would leave islanders paying 10% more tax than those in the UK earning the same wage. P&R has said there is "need for action now" and the rise "forces the next States to decide on a long-term fiscal solution to our financial challenges, including the cost of long-term care". 'No empathy' The proposals to increase income tax for two years while looking to introduce GST will be voted on when the entire 2025 budget is put to deputies. "Raising the personal income tax by 2p in the pound, will mean a Guernsey worker on an average wage will pay 10% more tax and social insurance contributions than a worker on the same pay in the UK," Dr Sloan said. "When I came to the island in 2008, a Guernsey worker on the average wage paid 20% less. "Increasing income tax like this is a lazy, crude and cruel tool. "These proposals display no sympathy or empathy with average workers." Link: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c774v2xz6l5o
