  1. Ella Toone scored a late winner for England as they came from two goals down to beat the Netherlands in a crucial Women's Nations League tie, keeping alive Team GB's hopes of qualifying for the Olympic Games. The World Cup runners-up were 2-0 down after 35 minutes when Lineth Beerensteyn punished defensive errors and took advantage of a passive midfield to score twice for the Netherlands. But England responded through Georgia Stanway and Lauren Hemp, who netted within two minutes of each other in the second half, before Toone fired in a dramatic late goal and received a roar of celebration from supporters at Wembley Stadium. On a stage that has produced so many successful moments for the Lionesses, Sarina Wiegman's side did just enough to edge past a Netherlands team who had outwitted them before the break. On a bitterly cold evening at Wembley, the Lionesses knew only victory would be enough to keep alive Team GB's hopes of competing in Paris. As the nominated nation to qualify on behalf of Team GB, England need to win their Nations League group and reach the final - or finish third if Olympic hosts France make the final - in order to secure a place. But having already suffered defeats by Belgium and the Netherlands in the competition, England's hopes were in major doubt and nothing short of victory against Andries Jonker's side would have been enough at Wembley. Euro 2022 stars Beth Mead, Alessia Russo and Toone all came off the bench to help inspire a comeback and it was the Manchester United midfielder, who scored the opening goal in that European success at Wembley, who delivered the goods again. England will qualify for the semi-finals if they beat Scotland on Tuesday and the Netherlands drop points in their final match with Belgium. However, even if the Netherlands beat Belgium at home, England could still go through if they defeat the Scots by a sufficiently large scoreline to take their goal difference above the Dutch. There had been concern about England's form for several months with criticism even coming during their World Cup campaign, which ended in defeat by Spain in August's showpiece. With just two wins in their previous five matches - having lost only once in their first 30 games under Wiegman - pressure was on England to perform. Their first-half display was nowhere near good enough and they were duly punished by Beerensteyn's ruthlessness, with Wiegman also paying for some questionable team selections. Lauren Hemp, making her 50th appearance for the Lionesses, was preferred in central attack over mainstay Russo, while Chelsea centre-back Jess Carter was the chosen replacement for injured club team-mate Millie Bright. But England were all over the place for the majority of the opening 45 minutes as gaps broke in defence. The Netherlands were able to carve through the midfield and England's forwards could not get into the game. Goalkeeper Mary Earps, wearing the armband in Bright's absence, was at fault for Beerensteyn's second goal as she allowed the ball to squeeze between her hands at the near post, after the Dutch striker had got the better of Carter and Lucy Bronze for her opener. However, a much-needed half-time break seemed to mark a reset for England and Stanway was unmarked in the box when she headed in Lauren James' curling cross, before Hemp's low strike beat goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar to make it 2-2. Wiegman's wildcards - her substitutions - were all used, including a return for winger Mead for the first time in a year, and it eventually paid off with Toone's driven strike nestling into the far corner with minutes remaining. England's job is still not complete but qualification is in their hands as they travel to Scotland for their final group match on Tuesday at Hampden Park. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/67577192
  2. Millions of people maintain an unhealthy lifestyle. Thus, they encounter problems like obesity, cardiovascular diseases, mental health disorders, hypertension, and increased stress. Alternatively, adopting a healthier lifestyle comes with countless benefits. But is healthy living affordable, or even better, cost-free? No, as each one of us are at different lifestyle phases with different spending capacity. Furthermore, other factors like an individual’s current state of physical and mental health, heredity, age, pre-existing illnesses, habits, physical affordability, patience levels, and the resolve to bring changes influence the lifestyle costs. So, let’s identify what are some of the ways in which you can control your grocery bills, limit gym memberships, or reduce restaurant-hopping from disturbing your budget while you continue to make healthier choices? 1.Analysis of Different Costs Contributing to a Healthy Lifestyle How much extra does healthy eating cost? A study by Cambridge University revealed that eating healthy costs three times as much as consuming unhealthy, junk food, and the price gap continues to widen. That’s the difference between a healthy diet, like one loaded with vegetables, fruits, fish, and nuts, and an unhealthy diet with lots of meat, processed foods, and refined grains. On one hand, choosing the former for a family can increase the cost significantly. But on the other hand, from a long-term perspective, eating healthy could save you from severe chronic illnesses that might dig a deeper hole in your pocket. 2. Investment Towards Physical Fitness With long working hours spent in front of screens and devices, adopting some form of physical activity has become essential more than an option. But engaging in physical activity comes at an added cost – whether you opt for a gym membership, Zumba classes, power-yoga sessions, swimming, or Pilates. The only thing that doesn’t come with a price tag is walking. The annual cost of these fitness and physical activities falls in the range of Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000, depending on the services, vicinity, and utilities. Those with an affinity for cycling can consider this option, as purchasing a bicycle is the best one-time investment plan that will give you significant rewards. 3. Stress-Reducing Activities Stress looks different in different people, and thus, it’s important to relieve it from time to time. Research has proved that engaging in activities such as deep breathing exercises, mindfulness meditation, and strength training among other things can reduce stress levels and improve mood. While some of these activities require absolutely no money, strength training and exercising in the gym may need a minimal investment of not more than Rs. 2000 to Rs. 5000. Bonus: if you manage to practice and master these skills by enrolling in professional courses, they will turn out to be the best money investment decision you have ever taken. 4. Productive Sources of Entertainment Leading a healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean you forget to participate in fun activities or entertainment. In fact, indulging in entertainment can distract you from stress, promote creativity, relieve the monotony, boost productivity, and develop self-esteem. From reading books to attending open Mic nights, visiting amusement parks attending trade shows, and celebrating festivals to stopping by an art exhibition – the options are endless. Most of these activities require a one-time entry cost, which is not more than Rs. 200 to Rs. 2000. The best part is – age is no bar to indulging in different entertainment activities, especially if they are going to add joy to your life. Make Healthy Choices for a Healthier Future Far too many people complicate the whole idea of leading a healthy lifestyle. In reality, you must know that more expensive, more luxurious, or more exclusive does not equal healthier or better. Don’t be enticed by fancy food options, marketing gimmicks, or organic labels. Regardless of what your budget is, embracing a healthier lifestyle does not have to be a tough decision to ponder over. In fact, living healthy is the best long-term investment you can make, followed by choosing the right health insurance plan. https://www.dezerv.in/personal-finance/the-real-cost-of-living-a-healthy-lifestyle/
  3. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has signed into law a bill overhauling army mobilisation rules, according to the parliamentary website, as Ukraine seeks to address acute troop shortages in its fight against Russia. More than two years into the war, Ukraine is on the back foot and its top military commander on the eastern frontline has said Russian forces outnumbered its own by up to 10 times. Kyiv needs fresh troops to strengthen its positions and rotate its exhausted military. The law will come into force a month after it is officially published. It obliges men to update their draft data with the authorities, boosts payments to those who volunteer, and adds new punishment for draft dodging. It remains unclear how many troops could be mobilised under the new provisions, although some serving military personnel and analysts have expressed concern that the law would not be effective enough in addressing the shortages The bill signed into law on Tuesday also lacks the much tougher sanctions for draft evasion that were contained in the initial version. The draft sparked public outcry, and there were more than 4,000 amendments before the final reading in parliament. Zelenskiy recently signed a separate law cutting the draft age to 25 from 27 to secure more fighting power. Ukraine began mobilisation immediately after Russia's invasion in February 2022. The country initially saw a significant influx of volunteer fighters, but numbers later plunged, with thousands of cases of draft evasionsince reported https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/ukraines-zelenskiy-signs-new-army-draft-law-reinforce-exhausted-troops-2024-04-16/
  4. This year is already shaping up to be a big one for Samsung. The tech giant launched the Galaxy S24 series in January, providing a first glimpse into its vision for how generative AI could be used on smartphones. And in February, it gave us a closer look at the highly anticipated Galaxy Ring, coming later this year. This story is part of Samsung Event, CNET's collection of news, tips and advice around Samsung's most po[CENSORED]r products. But Samsung's Galaxy S24, S24 Plus and S24 Ultra are just three several major new mobile products we're expecting to see from the company in 2024, all of which are likely to embrace AI in one way or another. Generative artificial intelligence, or AI that can create new content in response to prompts after being trained on data, took the tech industry by storm in 2023. Samsung is no exception; in November, it announced its own generative AI model. And in January, it launched the Galaxy S24 lineup — the first phones to come with the company's Galaxy AI suite of features. Read more: Best Samsung Phone of 2024 Samsung makes a lot more than just phones and wearables; its product lineup spans TVs, monitors, laptops and home appliances. But Samsung holds significant influence in the mobile market as one of the two dominant players that makes up the majority of worldwide smartphone shipments. Its Galaxy S launch is usually the first major smartphone launch of the year, and it sets the tone for what to expect throughout 2024. Like many tech companies, Samsung tends to release new smartphones and smartwatches on an annual basis. While only Samsung knows precisely which new Galaxy products will be launching and when, it's possible to make educated guesses based on the company's launch patterns in years past. For example, Samsung usually starts the product year sometime in the first quarter by releasing new versions of its flagship Galaxy S phones, while its new foldable phones typically arrive in the late summer. Now that the Galaxy S24 has arrived, these are the other new mobile products we're expecting to see from Samsung based on the company's typical product launch cycle, reports and leaks. https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/galaxy-s24-is-here-but-were-expecting-more-from-samsung-in-2024/

  6. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Google will combine the software division responsible for Android mobile software and the Chrome browser with the hardware division known for Pixel smartphones and Fitbit wearables, the company said Thursday. It's part of a broader plan to integrate artificial intelligence more widely throughout the company. In a letter to employees, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said the changes will “turbocharge the Android and Chrome ecosystems” while helping to spur innovation. The decision will place both operations under the oversight of Rick Osterloh, a Google executive who previously oversaw the company's hardware group. Not long ago, Google insulated Android development from the hardware division, saying it wanted to avoid giving its phone designers an unfair advantage over the other major smartphone makers who used Android — including Samsung and Motorola, as well as Chinese companies such as Oppo and Xiaomi. Then a few years ago, Google started to position the Pixel as a flagship for demonstrating what AI could accomplish and leaned heavily into developing features that could demonstrate its potential. That meant more integration of AI hardware and software to power those features on mobile devices. In an interview with The Verge, a tech publication, Osterloh noted that AI is the primary reason for bringing together Google's consumer hardware and software engineers. He argued that phone technology is already growing more dependent on AI, citing the development of the Pixel camera, which among other things uses the technology for features that enhance nighttime photos or automatically choose the best of several closely timed shots. Combining the teams, Osterloh added, is a way for Google to move even faster on infusing AI into its features. Designing the Pixel camera several years ago, he said in the interview, required deep knowledge of not just the complex hardware and software systems involved, but also the then-early AI models used for image processing. 7. If you think your folder of Sims 4 custom content is stuffed, its upcoming competition Life By You wants to attract even more mods to clog your downloads folder. Life By You envisions itself as a highly customizable modder's paradise, and unlike the tension that can exist between The Sims 4 and Patreon-funded modders, Life By You says "monetize all you want—you don't owe us a dime." In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Life by You creative director Rod Humble, who was previously head of The Sims and Second Life, took a totally permissive view of modding in general. "Player creativity is good for us," Humble said. "It's good for us [even if] we don't make a dime because it was made using our game. "If you make a YouTube series made using Life By You, I want you to know: You monetize all you want. You don't owe us a dime—go for it. Likewise, if you make a mod and it's downloaded by millions of people and you're like, 'actually I'm going to take my mod to my website and I'm going to start monetizing it,' perhaps on Patreon like a whole bunch of modders do, I want creators to know: Go for it. You don't need our permission."Though he doesn't mention it by name, this is a much more lax attitude than the current Sims modding policy set by EA, which does allow ad-supported download sites and using Patreon to offer "an early access incentive for a reasonable amount of time," though never to permanently paywall mods. Clarifying that policy has been a source of tension within the Sims modding community in years past. Paying for mods has always been a somewhat contentious topic, made more so when developers or storefronts get involved.Life By You's approach is just to remove itself from the equation as much as possible, it sounds. Modders can sell their work however they like and it's between them and the rest of the player community whether or not it's worth paying for. Humble says that's been a benefit of working with strategy and simulation publisher Paradox Interactive, which he believes is aligned in its attitude towards modders. It does have its own Paradox mods site, which Humble says the studio is "really delighted to be a part of" and thinks will make things easier for Life by You modders, but he also says they're "not locking anybody into anything." Humble describes Life By You almost as if it isn't a game and is instead a kind of musical instrument for players to riff on to simulate any kind of world they want. "We don't want anybody who creates content for our game to think that we would ever be a problem. It's your game. It's your toolset. You call the characters whatever you want. You don't represent our brand—you're representing your brand. We want to empower creators." Lauren started writing for PC Gamer as a freelancer in 2017 while chasing the Dark Souls fashion police and accepted her role as Associate Editor in 2021, now serving as the self-appointed chief cozy games enjoyer. She originally started her career in game development and is still fascinated by how games tick in the modding and speedrunning scenes. She likes long books, longer RPGs, has strong feelings about farmlife sims, and can't stop playing co-op crafting games. https://www.pcgamer.com/games/life-sim/life-by-you-director-says-modders-are-welcome-to-monetize-creations-however-they-want-go-for-ityou-dont-need-our-permission/

  15. Former Home Secretary Priti Patel will blame "those in power and control" of the Conservative Party for their heavy local election losses in a speech later. Ms Patel will say "errors and mistakes made by a minority in Westminster have cost [the] party dearly". She will be among several high-profile Tory MPs speaking to the Conservative Democratic Organisation, a new grassroots pro-Boris Johnson group. The Tory Party said it had no comment. In extracts of the speech, seen by the BBC, Ms Patel is highly critical of the Conservative Party's leadership. She is expected to say that some colleagues in Westminster "have done a better job at damaging our party" over the last year than the opposition, left-wing campaign groups and "our enemies in the media combined". The Conservative MP for Witham will suggest that if government leaders spent more time with the grassroots of the party "they would be more in touch with the people and with our values". "And perhaps if they did that, last week we would not have seen 1,000 of our friends and colleagues lose their seats in the local elections and dozens of councils fall out of Conservative control. "Never again should the grassroots of our party be side-lined, neglected and ignored," the former cabinet minister is expected to say. The Conservatives lost control of 48 councils and lost more than 1,000 councillors in May's English local elections. Many in the party were angry at the scale of the losses, which were worse than predicted, with some blaming Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Local elections 2023: In maps and charts Tory losses a clear rejection of Sunak, says Labour Ms Patel was a close ally of Mr Johnson and served as home secretary during his premiership. She will deliver her speech at the Conservative Democratic Organisation conference in Bournemouth, which will be attended by other high-profile supporters of Mr Johnson including Jacob Rees-Mogg and Nadine Dorries. In the speech, Ms Patel is also expected to blame the MPs who removed Mr Johnson from power, saying "they took down a vote-winning political giant". Voters are feeling "anger, frustration and disappointment," she will say. She will also criticise recent budgets for featuring "more state control, more spending, and more taxes " and diverging from what she calls Conservative values. She will warn that if the party does not change it will risk losing more votes. Reacting to Ms Patel's comments, the Liberal Democrats said the Tories had "decided to rekindle their infighting" and the party was marked by "constant chaos". https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-65579691
  16. Police believe two emperor tamarin monkeys - shown here in a file photo - were taken By Imogen James BBC News Two monkeys taken from Dallas Zoo in Texas have been found in an abandoned home, as police continue to search for a person of interest in the case. The incident is the latest in a series of suspicious events at the zoo, including the death of a vulture. Police were alerted on Monday that two emperor tamarin monkeys were missing. Zoo staff believe they were taken because this breed would typically stay close to home - and the monkeys were not located on zoo grounds. Dallas police said on Tuesday that they had found the monkeys in a closet of an abandoned home in Lancaster, about 16 miles (26km) from Dallas, and that they had been returned to the zoo.The police searched the home after receiving a tip, according to a statement seen by the BBC. "We are thrilled beyond belief to share that our two emperor tamarin monkeys have been found," the zoo said in a statement. Police "called our team to come secure and transport the tamarins back to the Zoo," they continued, adding that veterinarians would inspect the animals on Tuesday evening. The discovery came after Dallas police earlier on Tuesday asked the public for help identifying a man seen by cameras wandering around the zoo before the animals went missing. Police said they believed someone had cut an opening in the habitat and taken the two primates. A string of suspicious incidents began at the zoo earlier this month when a young clouded leopard escaped from its exhibit through a cut-out hole. It was later found safely. Workers also found deliberate cuts on an enclosure housing langur monkeys - though none got out. Last week, an endangered vulture was found dead in its enclosure with an "unusual wound". The bird was one of only 6,500 on the planet and its death was deemed "very suspicious". Zoo staff said losing the 35-year-old lappet-faced vulture called Pin was devastating, adding he would be "missed dearly by everyone". No arrests have been made in any of the investigations, and Dallas police have refused to say if the incidents are linked. Since the suspicious occurrences began, the zoo has added extra cameras and increased its security patrols at night. Ed Hansen, chief executive of the American Association of Zoo Keepers, said it appeared that someone "really has an issue with the Dallas Zoo", but that the zoo had an "excellent" reputation in the industry. Emperor tamarin monkeys are distinctive for their long white whiskers that resemble moustaches. It is believed they were named after Germany's last emperor, Wilhelm II, who also had a moustache. The zoo sits on 106 acres (43 hectares), housing more than 2,000 animals, and is the oldest and largest zoo in Texas. It made headlines in 2004 when a 300lb (136kg) gorilla escaped from its enclosure, injuring four people before being shot to death. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-64465580
  17. New car dealerships are experiencing a change in supply and turnover. According to a study by iSeeCars, the average new car takes 54 days to sell, while new EVs take 70.6 days, and new hybrids take 49.5 days. The study analyzed 463,000 new and used car sales from March 2024 and found that the average days on the market for new cars decreased by 21.6%, while used car sales increased by 30.5%. These findings suggest that new vehicle sales are slowing down, which may be due to the impact of inflation and rising interest rates on consumers’ purchasing power. Although hybrids sell faster than electric vehicles, EV sales are growing slower due to the same variables. Moreover, used vehicle sales have increased significantly in the last two months, with cars selling twice as fast as before in just 34.2 days. This acceleration is likely due to tax returns, as the used car purchasing season heats up. Used EV sales are slightly below average at 36.4 days, similar to new EV sales. On the other hand, used hybrids sell in just 30.4 days, faster than the average used car. It is evident that buyers are attracted to vehicles that offer excellent residual value, low running costs, and long-term durability. This is evident from the fact that Toyotas make up 12 of the 20 fastest-selling new cars, out of which eight are hybrids. The top 20 list includes three luxury SUVs: the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the Land Rover Range Rover, and the Cadillac Escalade. This proves the widely held belief that wealthy consumers are not letting macroeconomic worries slow them down. The Volvo XC40 Recharge is the only electric car featured in the top 20. Although EVs are currently among the slowest-selling cars, the market still favors compact and medium SUVs, even when those vehicles include motors and batteries as part of their powertrain. The top-ranked Jeep Cherokee takes more than three times the average of 54 days to sell, at 169.7 days, while all of the slowest-selling used cars take 90 days or longer to sell. However, it’s also evident there is low buyer interest as the slowest-selling EVs take between 81 to 130 days to sell despite being on the market for a few years. https://www.cbtnews.com/iseecars-reveals-new-car-sales-are-slowing-down-while-used-car-sales-increase/
  18. In docuseries Burden of Proof, Stephen Pandos searches for answers as to how his sister Jennifer disappeared in 1987 – including from his parentsStephen Pandos was a freshman in college when, in February 1987, his 15-year-old sister, Jennifer, went missing from their family home in Williamsburg, Virginia. The details of her disappearance were hazy. Stephen’s mother, Margie Pandos, claimed that she had grown concerned one morning when she didn’t hear Jennifer taking a shower and found her door locked. Possibly she ran away. But on her bed, Margie claimed to find a strange note messily scrawled in large, block handwriting, in which an unknown third party claimed Jennifer was “having some problems and needs time away”. The note allegedly transcribed Jennifer’s wishes: don’t call the police, don’t tell her friends, deposit money in her bank account. Margie and her husband, Ron, did not call the police for three days and told Jennifer’s friends she was either sick or out of the house. By the time they contacted police, the case was close to cold. Jennifer never returned home, nor were any arrests made in her disappearance. For years, Stephen was at a loss over what happened to the sister he barely knew – three and a half years apart, the two were “just naturally in different orbits”, he told the Guardian. The opening minutes of Burden of Proof, a new HBO docuseries on Stephen’s quest for truth decades after his sister’s disappearance, offer contrasting versions of Jennifer, fitting for a teenage girl barely on the cusp of adulthood. How people remembered her – funny, serious, lighthearted, troubled, open, shy – depended on who was telling the story. And as Burden of Proof examines in four hour-long episodes filmed over nearly eight years, that story shapes which details get remembered, whose discrepancies are highlighted and which doubts pull weight. https://www.theguardian.com/international
  19. At 16 I had my whole life planned out. I was a budding amateur boxer with bags of passion and talent. I was going to be a star. My dad was my coach. Our mission was to win the national youth championships, then conquer the Olympics, before turning professional and working together to capture a world title. But, in one night, this dream of ours was taken away. It was a Friday evening. Teenagers stood around the park chatting and drinking. I was taking a night off from training to ride my BMX. I remember rolling towards the grind rail, sliding down and landing well enough to earn a cheer from my mates. As I rolled around the back of the main ramp, I began to cycle hard, building up speed, but mid-jump I caught sight of something in the sky whistling its way right towards the spot where I was heading. Before I could react, a beer bottle had exploded in front of me, showering me in shards of broken glass. I hit the concrete hard and lay there bleeding. Next thing I knew, my mates were screaming obscenities from across the skate park, but louder than that was the sound of pounding footsteps. I turned just in time to see the first fist strike my face. I couldn’t tell you how many times I got hit during the six-on-one beat-down. But it was a lot. I remember thinking: “What have I done to deserve this?” and “Why isn’t anybody helping me out? Then things went from bad to worse. One lad used his knee to pin down my right arm. He splayed my hand on the ground and held it there. Then he shouted at his mate to stamp on it. His friend obliged, repeatedly. Suddenly, as if by magic, it stopped. Groups of kids from across the park had come together to form a human shield – an example of real courage and solidarity for which I’ll be forever grateful. I staggered home with the help of my friends. It wasn’t until the following morning, when I looked in the bathroom mirror, that I realised my sporting dreams were over. My face looked like one big bruise. There was massive swelling around my eyes, a deep cut on the ridge of my nose and teeth marks on my chest. What’s more, I soon learned that my right hand was permanently damaged. I was overwhelmed with despair. Dad was single-handedly raising my three brothers, two sisters and me. He dropped everything to give me the support I needed Six years later, my counsellor set up a meeting with the lad who engineered the foot stomping. He told me that cocaine had had a big part to play that night, as had jealousy and toxic masculinity. You see, the local newspaper had run a feature about me representing Buxton Amateur Boxing Club at their annual show. These lads had seen it and decided to bring me down a peg or two. Well, they succeeded. I never boxed competitively again after the incident in the park – it killed my appetite for the sport. My dad was my rock. At the time, we were living in poverty in rural Derbyshire. He was single-handedly raising my three brothers, two sisters and me. As challenging as that sounds, Dad dropped everything to give me the support I needed. Ultimately, he advised me to focus on my education. Though boxing had been my main obsession, followed closely by BMX-ing, I was also involved in theatre, having played several bit parts in school plays (usually, the small funny guy) and a couple of larger roles with Chapel Players, the local amateur dramatics club. Dad and I still loved boxing and we would often spend evenings watching reruns of old shows. I remember being absolutely in awe of Muhammad Ali: he was so funny, eccentric and theatrical. He was a performer too, so the idea of switching to the theatre never felt daunting to me – I’d still be dancing under those lights in rooms full of people, only this time nobody would be trying to punch me in the face. So, I swapped punchbags and skipping ropes for scripts and rehearsal rooms, and I relished the thrill of performing in front of a live audience. Theatre soon became my biggest passion and it has remained this way through college, university (where I graduated with a first-class honours degree in theatre studies) and into the world of work. Now, looking back on my 10 years in the arts, I wonder whether being assaulted in that park all those years ago was meant to be, because being involved in theatre has enabled me to do so much that sport couldn’t. For instance, at the core of my work as a producer and an artist, I have been helping young people from low-income backgrounds to access the arts – whether through creating work experience opportunities, mentoring, or producing the work of artists whose voices are underrepresented. 20. Three British tourists have been confirmed dead after a fire onboard a diving boat off Egypt’s Red Sea coast, a day after they were declared missing after a frantic search by the captain and crew.Twelve other divers and 14 crew, including the captain of the Hurricane, were rescued after abandoning the ship on Sunday morning. The group had sailed out to Elphinstone reef, a famed diving spot roughly 12km offshore and 30km from the resort town of Marsa Alam.According to the tour operator Scuba Travel and Tornado Marine Fleet, which operated the diving boat, a fire broke out onboard at 8.30am local time during a diving briefing. It is with great regret that we, as the tour operator, with heavy hearts, must accept that three of our much-valued dive guests who had not participated in the dive briefing, early on the morning of June 11, perished in the tragic incident,” said Pat Adamson, a spokesperson for Scuba Travel, the British company that arranged the trip.Mohamed Bendary, the secretary general of Egypt’s Red Sea governorate, stated that preliminary investigations suggested the blaze began in the boat’s engine room. Egyptian authorities said initial examinations indicated that an electrical short circuit in the engine room sparked the blaze. The Hurricane is a “liveabord” vessel, designed to accommodate tourists for days at a time. When the fire occurred, the group were reportedly at the end of a six-day stay on the boat.At the time the fire broke out 12 divers were participating in a briefing onboard, while those missing had apparently decided not to dive that morning. The severity of the fire meant that the 12 divers were immediately evacuated by boat to another craft nearby and the 14 crew members, including the captain and two dive guides, having tried to reach the missing guests, also had to abandon ship and were rescued,” said Adamson. The dive boat Hurricane is currently being towed to a port, yet to be nominated, as the vessel is still smouldering with cooling required before entry,” said Adamson.Footage of the boat off the coast of the resort town of Marsa Alam showed fire engulfing both decks of the ship as smoke billowed into the air.He added that Tornado Marine Fleet had maintained a strong safety record with Scuba UK. Tornado Marine Fleet, a company based in the Egyptian resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh offering trips onboard liveabord vessels, previously confirmed the incident and ongoing investigations, but did not respond when contacted concerning the deaths onboard the Hurricane or to discuss details of the vessel’s safety record.According to the website of Tornado Marine Fleet, the 188-ft Hurricane was built in 2004. The vessel included twin diesel engines as well as onboard whirlpool and entertainment systems, plus what the company described as a “firefighting and alarm system”.In recent posts on Facebook, the company offered last-minute spaces onboard the Hurricane for diving excursions in the Red Sea in May and June. Pictures of the interior of the boat showed luxurious cabins with wood floors and walls, a dining room and living room lined with velvet banquettes and an onboard chef.bdulrahman Alsarheed, a Kuwaiti tourist who witnessed the blaze, said the fire had spread fast, engulfing the entire boat within minutes.AImages showed some of the passengers jumping from the ship to reach a smaller boat alongside it to escape the blaze. There was light smoke, and in one or two minutes the smoke became white and heavy, and then it turned black, and the fire broke out so fast because it was windy in the morning,” Alsarheed said. The 12 rescued divers were taken to Marsa Shagra, a village north of Marsa Alam, where they received medical attention and gave statements to police, as local authorities pledged to investigate the cause of the fire.Scuba UK said the group was receiving consular assistance to return to the UK, after all of their personal possessions including passports were destroyed in the fire onboard the Hurricane.A spokesperson for the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office said: “We are in contact with local authorities following an incident aboard a dive boat near Marsa Alam, and are supporting British nationals involved.”Egypt’s Red Sea resorts are home to some of the country’s most renowned beach destinations and are po[CENSORED]r with holidaymakers. The area has cemented its reputation as a dive destination, with easy access to coral reefs from shores and dive sites with diverse marine life. Not everyone can afford to pay for news right now. 21. Motorola didn't confirm which Edge series model will feature the new chipset Photo Credit: Motorola Motorola has announced an event for April 16 to reveal the Edge 50 family. The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, Edge 50 Fusion, and Edge 50 Pro are expected to go official in global markets at the event. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro with Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC was launched in India earlier this month. The Chinese electronics brand has now shared a teaser to offer hints about the chipset on the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra without confirming the moniker of the phone. The upcoming handset is expected to come with upgrades over the Motorola Edge 30 ultra. The company has officially teased the Motorola Edge 50 series via an X post. As per the post, Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC will power an Edge series handset. While Motorola didn't reveal the exact moniker of the handset, it is quite clear that the Ultra variant will carry this SoC. Past leaks and a recent Geekbench benchmark listing have also indicated that the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra runs on the same Snapdragon 8 series chipset. Motorola Edge 50 Ultra surfaced on Geekbench earlier this week with an impressive single-core CPU score of 1,947 and a multi-core score of 5,149. The listing showed a high-performance core with a maximum clock speed of 3.01GHz, four cores capped at 2.80GHz and three cores capped at 2.02GHz. These CPU speeds are associated with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC. The listing suggested 12GB of RAM and Android 14 operating system on the device. As per past leaks, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra will carry a triple rear camera setup comprising a 50-megapixel primary sensor. The handset is said to carry a 6.7-inch OLED display with 165Hz refresh rate. Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is anticipated to be the most premium handset in the upcoming Edge 50 series. It could debut in the US with Motorola Edge+ 2024 or Edge Ultra 2024 moniker and cost around $999 (roughly Rs. 83,000). https://www.gadgets360.com/mobiles/news/motorola-edge-50-ultra-teasers-snapdragon-8s-gen-3-soc-launch-april-16-specifications-5424408
  22. Virtual cycling program Zwift is further gamifying its fitness platform by launching its first dedicated controller called the Zwift Play. It functions similarly to the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Cons. The Zwift Play is comprised of two separate pieces each with its own set of buttons. The left half comes with a direction pad for navigating on-screen menus and for making select turns inside the company’s virtual world. On the right half are the face buttons for selecting menu options or activating certain in-game abilities like teleporting “to Pace Groups,” among other things. At the back of both halves are a couple of paddles. Pushing them in brakes your on-screen bike while pulling them helps you steer. As for other important details, the Zwift Play “requires two Bluetooth connections”, one for each half. Battery life for both pieces is a claimed 20 hours of ride time. The overall package does come with a split-end USB cable so you can charge the two at the same time without any issue. The controller can connect to any exercise bike via silicone straps. However, the machine must sport drop handlebars and not have any sort of unique configurations. As an example, the company states the Zwift Play doesn’t work on the Garmin Tacx Neo bike since it won’t “allow proper placement due to shifter shape.”Alongside the controller, the company also launched its new Beta Zwift Play Game Experience, a virtual environment where users can test drive the device’s functionality. It features a cycling course where people can try out the rear braking paddles and the ability shortcuts on the face buttons. Availability For a limited time, you can purchase the Zwift Play controller from the company's website for $99/£99/€99. This lower price tag will stick around until the Zwift Play Game Experience leaves beta. Once it does, the price tag will go up to $149/£149/€149 moving forward. We asked Zwift when the virtual world will officially launch. A representative told us they don’t have a confirmed date yet for the release. In the meantime, the company will focus on improving exercise modes and taking user feedback on how to improve the experience. We also asked the representative if there are plans to roll out the Zwift Play to other global regions – namely Australia. They told us the company is looking into it, but currently doesn’t have plans to expand outside the US, UK, and EU. https://www.techradar.com/news/zwifts-first-controllers-turn-your-indoor-cycling-bike-into-a-video-game
  23. The Apple Vision Pro offers hardware that its newly formed rivals cannot offer, thanks to the M2 and R1 pairing. However, what companies like Meta can do with its Quest 2 and Quest Pro is improved on the software bit to increase performance, and that is exactly what has been done with the latest update. It is likely that this change was implemented in response to the capabilities of Apple’s latest AR headset. With the latest update, the Quest 2 and Quest Pro have received a 26 percent performance improvement With the v55 software, Meta promises some impressive performance gains for the Quest 2 and Quest Pro. While it cannot be confirmed if the company purposely gimped the headsets’ capabilities to push sales of successive models, it is mind-boggling how much of an impact a software update can bring to the table. To summarize, Meta claims that both headsets should see up to a 26 percent performance bump in the CPU department. As for the GPU, the blog post provides the remaining details. https://wccftech.com/meta-quest-2-and-quest-pro-cpu-gpu-improvement/
