A Thai court has ordered the dissolution of the reformist party which won the most seats and votes in last year’s election - but was blocked from forming a government. The ruling also banned Move Forward's charismatic, young former leader Pita Limjaroenrat and 10 other senior figures from politics for 10 years. Dog-owners are being urged not to leave their pets in the car or to walk them during the hottest part of the day. The warning from Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) comes as a heatwave affects large parts of the UK. The Channel Island charity said it was expecting to receive reports from the public of dogs locked in cars, dogs being walked on hot pavements, animals in direct sunlight and wildlife in need. GSPCA manager Steve Byrne said there were simple things islanders could do to ensure it is safe to take pets outside. 'Stop and think' He advised avoiding walking dogs at the hottest part of the day and testing the heat of the pavement with the back of a hand for seven seconds. Dogs should be walked on cooler grass, ideally in shaded areas, early in the morning or evening, he said. "We urge all pet owners to stop and think and ensure that their pet is not put in a life-threatening situation," Mr Byrne added. "If your dog is left in the car, even if parked in the shade as the sun moves [it] could put them at a real risk of heat exhaustion, which can lead to death." The GSPCA said when it is 22°C (72°F) outside, the temperature inside a car can soar to 47°C (117°F) within 60 minutes. It added a dog inside a hot car could suffer heat stroke and said the signs to look out for included heavy panting, profuse salivation, lethargy and lack of co-ordination. A vet should be called to lower the dog's body temperature slowly. Egyptian Olympic wrestler Mohamed 'Kesho' Ibrahim has been arrested in Paris for an alleged sexual assault. The Paris prosecutor's office released a statement saying: "On August 9 around 5am, a man born in March 1998 in Egypt who was a wrestler in the Olympic delegation was arrested in front of the Oz cafe." It is understood he was arrested for allegedly touching the buttocks of another customer at the cafe. The Egyptian Olympic Committee (EOC) named Kesho, who won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Games, as the team member who had been arrested. The EOC added he will be investigated by its ethics committee and could face a life ban from competition. "If the allegations are substantiated, the wrestler will face permanent suspension and will be barred from participating in both domestic and international competitions," it said. Kesho was beaten by Azerbaijan's Hasrat Jafarov in the first round of the men's 67kg Greco-Roman wrestling on Wednesday. The EOC said he had been given permission to leave the Egyptian camp to watch the final of his weight category but failed to return and turned off his phone. Chinese car maker Zeekr says its new electric vehicle (EV) batteries charge faster than any of its rivals, including industry leaders Tesla and BYD. The firm claims its upgraded batteries can be charged from 10% to 80% capacity in 10 and a half minutes using its ultra-fast charging stations. In comparison, Elon Musk’s Tesla says a 15 minute charge allows its Model 3 to cover 175 miles (282km), a little under half the car’s full range. Zeekr's 2025 007 sedan, which will be available from next week, will be its first vehicle to have the new battery. The battery performs well even in cold weather charging from 10% to 80% of its capacity in less than half an hour at temperatures as low as -10C, the company also said. BBC News has contacted Tesla and BYD to request a response to Zeekr's announcement. Tu Le, founder and managing director of consultancy firm Sino Auto Insights told the BBC: "Tesla’s charging technology is not industry leading anymore and has not been for some time." "These bold claims by Zeekr are believable, but more importantly even if it’s not the fastest charging EV battery, being one for the fastest is still quite a leap for them". "The competition in China is incredibly fierce and while brands like BYD prioritise scale and sales, brands like Zeekr, Li [Auto] and Nio are focused on maximising the charging experience," said Mark Rainford, a China-based car industry commentator. "Zeekr's parent company, Geely, is pretty much a vertically integrated business... they have the resources to do this," he added. Russia has imposed a "counter-terrorism operation" regime in three regions to try to halt a surprise cross-border incursion by Ukrainian troops. The authorities in the Kursk, Belgorod and Bryansk regions on the border with Ukraine now can restrict the movement of people and vehicles and use phone tapping among other measures. This comes as the Ukrainian offensive into the Kursk region is now in its fifth day. Kyiv has not openly admitted the incursion. Reports say Ukrainian troops are threatening to seize one regional town as they fight more than 10km (six miles) inside Russia - the deepest advance since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The new security measures in the three Russian border regions were announced by the National Counter-Terrorism Committee (Nak) on Friday. It said this was done "to ensure the safety of citizens and suppress the threat of terrorist acts by enemy sabotage and reconnaissance units". The authorities now have powers to enter private homes, restrict the movement of traffic and pedestrians, order the temporary relocation of people and monitor information sent electronically. This comes as Moscow is struggling to contain the Ukrainian offensive. After studying multiple incidents involving melting and overheating 12VHPWR power adapters with the GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards for several weeks, Nvidia has finally issued an official statement. "We are actively investigating the reports," a statement by Nvidia reads. "We are aware of about 50 cases globally. Our findings to date suggest that a common issue is that connectors are not fully plugged into the graphics card. To help ensure the connector is secure we recommend plugging the power dongle into the graphics card first to ensure it is firmly and evenly plugged in, before plugging the graphics card into the motherboard. We are investigating additional ways to ensure that the connector is secure before powering on the graphics card. Nvidia and our partners are committed to supporting our customers and ensuring an expedited RMA process, regardless of the cable or card used." The company is aware of 50 melting 16-pin 12VHPWR adapter cases globally and will keep investigating further. So far, the company has found that melting and overheating have happened when the adapter's connector is not securely plugged into its socket. The company advises GeForce RTX 4090 owners to securely connect the adapter before installing the board into its PCIe slot. A man who killed a pet rabbit after claiming the animal had bitten him has been given a suspended prison sentence and banned from keeping animals for 10 years. Andrew West was caught on a hidden camera at a house in Sheffield picking up the grey lop-eared rabbit by his neck and forcefully throwing the animal down towards the ground. The city's magistrates court heard that the 30-year-old was interviewed by the RSPCA and immediately admitted the offence. In mitigation they were told he suffered from severe ADHD and had not not taking his medication at the time. A vet said it was "one of the most disturbing cases of violence" he had seen. The upsetting footage, which was captured from the bedroom of a house in Adrian Crescent in Sheffield on 29 August 2023, was passed to the RSPCA which then launched an investigation. At a sentencing hearing, Sheffield Magistrates' Court heard that RSPCA officers, accompanied by police, had gone to the property on 31 August last year after several video clips had been passed to the charity. In one of them West can be seen grabbing the pet named Milo, and saying to him, “You’re never going to hurt me again, do you understand?” Further footage showed the rabbit, which didn’t belong to him, being flung on the floor by West before being found dead a short time later. The court heard that when he was asked by the RSPCA why he was heard in one of the video clips saying, “Oh yeah you're going to get it," he said this meant he wanted to hurt Milo because he was angry with the rabbit for biting him, but he had not intended to kill it. 'Extremely cruel' In mitigation two references provided to the court attested to his "kind personality" and "love of animals". At a sentencing hearing at Sheffield Magistrates' Court on 26 July, he was handed an 18-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal. A post-mortem report indicated the rabbit had been suffering from a brain infection called E cuniculi, a common infection in rabbits which can, in some cases, lead to seizures or death. A vet who viewed the video footage and gave written evidence in the case, said: “Regardless of the post-mortem findings we can safely say that the individual in the footage was extremely cruel and violent towards Milo. "Through his callous actions he has blatantly caused a great deal of pain, stress, fear and unnecessary suffering.
