  3. The wife of a Slovak man who died in Belgian police custody has called for a fresh inquiry after shocking images of his detention emerged. Jozef Chovanec was arrested at Charleroi airport in 2018 after causing a disturbance on his flight. While in custody, he began banging his head on the wall of his cell to the point of bleeding. A group of officers are later seen pinning him down. Chovanec was taken to hospital, but fell into a coma and died the next day. The images from the cell show several officers laughing during the incident, while another appears to give a Nazi salute. Another is filmed sitting on Chovanec's rib cage for 16 minutes. His death has drawn parallels in Belgium with the case of George Floyd, who died in May after a police officer knelt on his neck during his arrest in the US. 'He couldn't breathe properly' "I want to know what happened and why [the police] behaved that way," his wife, Henrieta, told Het Laatse Nieuws, the Belgian newspaper that obtained the footage. Before his death in February 2018, Chovanec owned a company that recruited Slovakian construction workers for projects in Belgium, and he frequently commuted between the two countries for his business. His family said they do not know the reason for his erratic behaviour during police custody, and an autopsy revealed he had not been under the influence of drugs or alcohol. "Something seemed to be going on with my husband, he wasn't feeling well, but the police ignored my husband all night," said Mrs Chovancova. "When they saw the blood, they should have given him first aid. Instead, they sat on him with so many people. He couldn't breathe properly." Widespread revulsion Two years after his death, a police investigation is continuing, and Mrs Chovancova has called for a new judge to be appointed. A spokesperson for the Charleroi public prosecutor's office said all officers involved in the incident had been interviewed, but added that "due to the crisis surrounding Covid-19, there has been a delay". In the meantime, a police spokesperson told the Sudinfo website that the officer pictured giving the salute would be dismissed from 20 August. There has been widespread revulsion at the images among Belgian politicians. Interior Minister Pieter de Crem told Belgian media the images were "extremely shocking" and what had happened was "obviously out of all proportion". It was up to the police inspectorate to decide what action to take towards the officers involved, he said. A spokesman for the VSOA police union told Flemish broadcaster VRT "that Hitler salute and that dancing is utterly unacceptable and inappropriate", but the union did not know the case well enough to make accusations against the officers.

  6. Deathloop has been pushed to Q2 2021, citing delays caused by work-from-home due to coronavirus. Deathloop, the next game from Arkane Studios, has been delayed from its holiday 2020 window. It is now slated for Q2 2021, and a statement from Arkane chalks the delay up to work-from-home structure due to the coronavirus taking "longer than normal." "This extra time will allow our team to bring Deathloop’s world to life with as much character and fun as you've come to expect from our team," the statement reads. "While we know this is the right decision for Deathloop, we share your disappointment, and apologize for making you wait even longer." The new release window, set for Q2 2021, puts it in sometime from April-June Deathloop is a shooter with a Groundhog Day twist. You play as an assassin named Colt on a deserted island that resets at the end of each day. He has to take out a series of targets before the day ends, and avoid a counter-assassin that's hunting him, to break the loop. A unique multiplayer element lets other players slip into your game as that counter-assassin, Juliana, whose job it is to protect the loop by taking out Colt before he can accomplish his mission.

  7. Five Micro-ATX, one Mini-ITX Right on the heels of AMD's quiet launch of the A520 chipset, ASRock has revealed various A520 motherboards today. For this series, the motherboard vendor opted to go with smaller form factors, namely Micro=ATX and Mini-ITX. The list of Micro-ATX motherboards include the A520M Pro4, A520M-HVS, A520M-HDV, A520M-HDVP and A520M/ac. The A520M Pro4 is the only model to incorporate four DDR4 memory slots, meaning you can install up to 128GB of your best RAM. The remaining motherboards are limited to two DDR4 memory slots, so 64GB is the max. Regardless of the model; however, all of ASRock's A520 motherboards support memory modules up to DDR4-4733 and higher. The A520M Pro4 is equipped with a 8-phase power delivery subsystem, while the other four motherboards sport a 6-phase design. Out of the five Micro-ATX offerings, only the A520M/ac has Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity. Every one of ASRock's A520 Micro-ATX motherboards comes with four SATA III connectors and at least one M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 slot. In the A520M Pro4's case, the motherboard has two M.2 slots. The motherboards provide different options for expansion, so you'll have to go through them to see which model meets your needs. For example, the A520M Pro4 only supplies two PCIe 3.0 x16 slots, while the A520M-HDVP is more generous and delivers one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots and even an old-fashioned PCI slot. The A520M-ITX/ac should prove to be good options for SFF (small form factor) PC builders seeking the best motherboards. Don't underestimate the Mini-ITX motherboard, though, as it offers a rich feature set. The A520M-ITX/ac employs a capable 8-phase power delivery subsystem to house the latest and future Ryzen CPUs without a sweat. Memory support is identical to the Micro=ATX motherboards, but with a shorter memory trace to the processor, the A520M-ITX/ac should be formidable in RAM overclocking. The A520M-ITX/ac might be small, but it has multiple storage options. You still get four SATA III connectors and single M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 slot that are present on the bigger models. Like the A520M/ac, the A520M-ITX/ac also has Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 4.2. ASRock didn't mention the availability or pricing for the brand's A520 motherboards. We have yet to find the motherboards at an U.S. retailer, but they should be on their way.

  8. Give Google Chrome the dark mode treatment Chrome dark mode is a new look for the web browser that replaces its usual white color scheme with shades of black and gray – and it's easy to use. There are several reasons to choose Chrome dark mode. On mobile devices, perhaps the biggest factor is battery life. Your phone's screen uses a lot of power, and in 2018, Google itself confirmed that apps with darker interfaces use much less juice than their bright, white counterparts. Finally, it just looks cool. Google's Material Design language and Facebook's latest refresh are both very bright and white, and switching to dark mode makes a refreshing change. If those reasons are enough to tempt you, here's how to make the switch to dark mode in Chrome for Windows, macOS, Android and iOS. In addition to keeping your data encrypted and online identity anonymous to prying eyes, downloading a VPN can improve your Chrome experience. Among its many uses, the software can help you avoid blocked websites, use banned apps, stream TV and sport from abroad, and torrent safely. ExpressVPN is has the best Chrome extension out there..

  9. Back from the dead If you’re here to find out how to fix a Mac that won’t start, we’ve got your back. Most of us have come to take for granted that our Mac, iPhone, or iPad just sort of… work. So, when things go wrong, such as a Mac not starting up, we're more likely to be caught out. Luckily, there’s almost nothing that can go wrong that hasn't gone wrong for several other people at some point in the past, which means that in most cases, there’s going to be a fix. Especially when you utilize your Mac or MacBook for productivity or creative work, you need it in top shape and ready to perform whatever task we demand of it. Therefore, knowing how to fix a Mac that won’t start, preferably without help from an expert who will charge you a few hundred dollars, is a skill that will come in handy and save you some money. That’s what we’re here for. We gathered some of the most common fixes you can try if your Mac refuses to start or boot. Obviously, there will be some extreme cases in which you’ll require professional help, and there are plenty of authorised service centres ready and able to provide it, as well as the Genius Bars at Apple Stores. But, most of the time, it’s a simple issue with a simple fix. Mac folder with question mark: what does it mean? If your Mac starts up to a Mac folder with a question mark, it could mean one of two things: (1) your startup disk is no longer working because either you previously started your Mac from a different disk or your hard drive has failed, or (2) there’s no working operating system installed. It’s a scary thing, turning on your Mac only to find a solitary folder with a question mark on a solid black background. But, worry not. As long as it’s not a hard drive that’s stopped working completely, there might be a way to get your Mac back to the way it was. Step 1: Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to turn your Mac off. Step 2: Turn on your Mac, and hold Command (⌘) + R. This takes you to macOS Recovery. Step 3: Select Disk Utility, press continue and find your startup disk in the sidebar. Step 4: Click “First Aid” and hit Run. This should prompt your Mac to find errors and repair them. If Disk Utility did not find or could not repair all the errors, you might have to reformat the disk, reinstall the macOS or restore a backup using the Time Machine. However, if you can’t perform this repair because Disk Utility just isn’t seeing your startup disk, you might have to take it to a Mac expert to get serviced.

The Division 2's servers are scheduled to shut down on August 18 at 12:30 AM PT / 3:30 AM ET for three hours on all platforms as a maintenance update gets applied, the studio has confirmed. While no file size has been announced, the update seems to be relatively small at the current moment and only fixes two issues. These are clan XP not properly updating and ironing out DELTA-03 errors when equipping Exotics. Should more updates be necessary, developer Massive Entertainment confirmed additional patch notes will be published on its forums as the maintenance progresses. The Division 2 Patch Notes (August 18) Fixed an issue causing clan XP to not update properly. Fixed an issue that could cause DELTA-03 errors when equipping an Exotic weapon. The Division 2 recently received an update that fixed issues with the progression of Global Events, Morozova's Phase 6 not initiating, and more. And last month, The Division 2's 10.1 Update--which addressed various bug fixes and balance adjustments--introduced tons of changes to loot, including tweaking the attributes and stats of item drops, increasing the minimum item power on higher difficulties, and giving players the ability to swap their abilities while they're on cooldown, among other things.

  14. Launched in 2017, the Kia Stinger gets a little mid-career restyling, which focuses particularly on the rear end. The Kia Stinger has been on the market for three years now, and the need for a little facelift was inevitably starting to be felt, despite its relatively low-key career, especially in France. While a little facelift should not necessarily boost sales, which remain relatively confidential, it is nonetheless necessary, so that the sedan can still stay in tune with the times. And for good reason, if the Stinger is far behind the brand's bestsellers in terms of sales in France, with only 79 units sold here last year, the Korean firm does not intend to 'give up, at least not until the end of the current generation. So here she is unveiling a very light restyling, bringing very subtle modifications to her flagship. Surprisingly, and unlike what other brands do, these mainly focus on the rear part. Be careful, because the changes are not very spectacular either, since it mainly concerns the rear bumper, which benefits from a new stroke of the pen. The tailpipes have also been enlarged, while the lights are a little darker, giving a more aggressive look to the whole. Finally, the indicators have also been redesigned to create a checkered flag, while the front remains strictly identical to the previous version. But after all, why change a style that has proven itself? We remember that the sedan was unanimous when it was released, in particular because of its very successful lines. An electrified version? The interior has not been forgotten during this restyling, as the driver now benefits from a larger touchscreen, measuring 10.25 inches diagonally. A small development that does not, however, make us forget the absence of a digital handset for the sedan. Other details to note include the new frameless interior mirror, as well as the ambient lighting above the dashboard. The Korean firm also announces that new upholstery is available, while the quality of materials has been improved. The big unknown now remains the range of engines, while nothing has been said about a possible modification. For now, customers have the choice between gasoline and diesel units from 200 to 366 horsepower, but it is not excluded that an electric or hybrid variant will enrich the catalog.
  15. Telugu actor Allu Sirish said there is a lot of stigma associated with the idea of endorsing Made In India products, and feels everyone needs to work towards breaking the perception. Telugu actor Allu Sirish says there is a lot of stigma associated with the idea of endorsing Made In India products, and feels everyone needs to work towards breaking the perception. "I realised during the early days of the pandemic that India is going to lose a lot of money and jobs during the lockdown. I wanted to help and contribute but didn't know how. I have seen our Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal appealing to us Indians at various platforms to ‘go local' and use more Indian made products to support the country and make our economy stronger," Sirish said. Reading up further made me realise how true this was. And I made a conscious decision a few weeks back to use more Indian made products. On speaking to people, I realised this idea resonated with a lot of people, but they have a stigma when endorsing something that's Indian made. I feel we needed to break this perception. That's when I decided I'll use the voice and mediums I have to encourage people to buy local and flaunt their local 'samaan' with pride. And that's how my idea of ‘Go Local, Be Vocal' started," he added. In sync with his thoughts, the actor sent hampers with local made products on Independence Day to his celebrity friends. He has sent the hamper to Ram Charan, Lakshmi Manchu, Rana Daggubati, Akhil Akkineni, Varun Tej, Rakulpreet Singh and Saina Nehwa amongst others. In the note on the hamper, Sirish wrote: "The ongoing Covid pandemic has changed the way we need to look at things. This is time for us to support our country by using more local brands. In a globalised world, it's impractical for us to buy ONLY Indian brands. But I request you to make a conscious effort to use MORE Indian brands. It's also the time for us to break the myth that it isn't cool to use Indian brands by being VOCAL about our usage. Hope you enjoy your hamper with the world-class Indian products. This Independence Day lets "Go Local, Be Vocal". Jai Hind!" On the work front, Sirish was last seen on screen in the Telugu film ABCD: American Born Confused Desi. Directed by Sanjeev Reddy, the film also stars Rukshar Dhillon.
  16. The prime minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern, has postponed the country's general election by a month amid a spike in coronavirus cases. The vote was due to take place on 19 September but will now be held on 17 October instead. Ms Ardern said on Monday that the new date would allow parties "to plan around the range of circumstances we will be campaigning under". Earlier this week, the country's largest city went back into lockdown. "This decision gives all parties time over the next nine weeks to campaign and the Electoral Commission enough time to ensure an election can go ahead," Ms Ardern said, adding that she had "absolutely no intention" of allowing any further delays to the vote. The opposition National Party has argued the election should be delayed as restrictions on campaigning mean Ms Ardern had an unfair advantage. Restrictions were imposed on Auckland on Wednesday after a number of new infections were identified in the city. Nine new coronavirus cases were confirmed on Monday, bringing the number of active cases linked to the Auckland cluster to 58. The outbreak was initially traced back to members of one family, although Ms Ardern later said that subsequent contact-tracing had found an earlier case involving a shop worker who became sick on 31 July. A health official who knew the family told the New Zealand Herald that the family were "shell-shocked" and "a little embarrassed that it had happened to them". The announcement that new cases had been discovered shocked the country, which had recorded no locally transmitted cases for more than three months. There are four "alert levels" in New Zealand, and Auckland has been on Level 3 since the new measures were announced. The rest of the country is on Level 2. Before the new cluster was identified, the government had lifted almost all of its lockdown restrictions, which were first imposed in March. New Zealand has reported more than 1,600 infections and 22 deaths since the pandemic began, according to figures from Johns Hopkins University. An early lockdown, tough border restrictions, effective health messaging and an aggressive test-and-trace programme had all been credited with virtually eliminating the virus in the country.

  18. The HP Envy 15 gets an excellent keyboard and a beautiful design in exchange for more weight and middling battery life. Everyone wants the best ultrabook:. the most powerful one, the best looking. And HP, now, is blurring the lines between its mid-range series and what you could consider premium. The Envy 15 ($1,149.99 to start, $1,499.99 as tested) has some of the looks of HP’s more expensive Spectre line, and with Intel Core i7 CPU and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q, has some chops for creatives and some gamers. It also boasts nice speakers and a comfortable keyboard. There are trade offs here — it’s heavier and thicker than premium machines. And if you opt for the OLED display option like ours had, be ready to keep the charger nearby. The Envy looks nicer than ever (even a bit like the more expensive HP Spectre line) with an aluminum chassis boasting the version of the HP logo the company seems to save for the laptops it cares most about. It’s a series of angled lines, rather than the old circle iconography. The 15.6-inch display is surrounded by slight bezels, except for on the bottom, where it’s a bit bigger. The aluminum deck has patterned, top-firing speaker grilles on each side. There’s a fingerprint reader on the last row of the keyboard, next to the arrow keys, which is an old placement, but at least it's super fast. The Envy also has a glass touchpad with diamond-cut edges this time around. The Envy logo can be found on the spine and to the right of the touchpad, but it’s not very noticeable. More than ever, you can actually be envious of this thing. At 4.7 pounds and 14.1 x 9.3 x 0.7 inches, it is a bit heavier than some other laptops aimed at the creative class. The Dell XPS 15 9500 is 4.5 pounds and 13.6 x 9.1 x 0.7 inches. The MSI Prestige 14, which has a smaller screen, is 2.8 pounds and 12.6 x 8.5 x 0.6 inches. CPU Intel Core i7-10750H Graphics Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q RAM 16 DDR4-2933MHz SSD 512GB NVMe SSD + 32GB Intel Optane Display 15.6-inch, 3840 x 2160 AMOLED touchscreen Networking Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX 201 (2x2), Bluetooth 5 Ports 2x Thunderbolt 3, HDMI 2.0a, 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, 3.5mm headphone jack Camera 720p Battery 86 WHr Power Adapter 200W Operating System Windows 10 Home Size 14.1 x 9.3 x 0.7 inches / 358.1 x 236.2 x 17.8 mm Weight 4.7 pounds / 2.1 kg Price (as Configured) $1,499.99 HP Envy 15 Productivity Performance The Envy 15 is a laptop being aimed primarily at creatives, and its Intel Core i7-10750H and 16GB of RAM gives you plenty of power in that department. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q GPU boosts video and photo editing workloads, and even allows for some light gaming. On Geekbench 5.0, the Envy achieved a multi-core score of 6,241, just surpassing the XPS 15 (6,174). The Prestige 15, a thinner machine with a Core i7-10710U CPU, did worse at 3,982, while the 16-inch MacBook Pro outperformed at 7,201 with a Core i9-9980HK. But the Envy lagged behind in file transfer speeds. The HP laptop copied 4.97GB of files at a rate of 650.6 MBps, behind the XPS 15 (727 MBps) and far slower than the Prestige and MacBook, both tied at 1,017.9 MBps. It took the Envy 13 minutes and 35 seconds to transcode a 4K video to 1080p. While that’s faster than the Prestige, the XPS and MacBook were both speedier. For our productivity stress test, we ran Cinebench R20 on a loop 20 times. The Envy 15 didn’t throttle, and maintained scores in the mid 2,600’s after the first run.During that test, the CPU ran at an average speed of 3.4 GHz and an average temperature of 74.6 degrees Celsius (166.3 degrees Fahrenheit). HP Envy 15 Graphics Performance The Envy 15, could, if you wanted to, play some games. It’s targeted at creative professionals and prosumers with no intention of competing against the best gaming laptops., However, its RTX 2060 is more than capable at 1080p. On the Shadow of the Tomb Raider (highest settings, 1080p) benchmark, the Envy ran the game at 49 fps, compared to 29 fps with the XPS 15’s lesser GTX 1650 Ti. On Grand Theft Auto V (very high, 1080p), the Envy hit an average of 61 fps, ahead of 42 fps on the XPS 15 and 30 fps on the Prestige. HP Envy 15 Display If you want bright, vivid colors and deep, dark blacks, the Envy 15’s 4K OLED screen is right up your alley. The 15.6-inch touch-sensitive display looked great with just about any image including the wide variety of Window lock screens. When I watched an FHD trailer for Mulan, one warrior’s red dust bomb was bright against a dusty beige background. Her enemy’s blue feathers were vibrant in their silver armor. In the 4K short Tears of Steel, I found that the green and purple holograms in a lab looked amazing, especially considering how busy the scene was. Colors on Envy’s display are incredibly vivid. That’s backed up by the fact that it covers 142% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, handily beyond the Prestige (78.9%), MacBook Pro (80.7%) and Dell XPS 15 (93.7%). HP’s screen measured an average of 329 nits of brightness, way ahead of the MSI Prestige. While that’s enough for most people, it’s still dimmer than both the XPS 15 and the 16-inch MacBook Pro. HP Envy 15 Keyboard and Touchpad HP’s keyboard on the Envy is quite good, with bouncy keys with just a bit of a click. While I usually like a bit more of a bumpy feel under my fingers, these keys were light on my fingers. On the 10fastfingers.com typing test, I hit 116 words per minute without making a single error. There are a few oddities to the keyboard, including the home, page up, page down and end keys aligned to the right under the delete key, which means the power button isn’t in the corner. There’s a fingerprint reader next to the right alt key. It’s better than having it on the touchpad, but this placement would have been a better place for another function key or Windows key. The 4.5 x 2.7-inch touchpad is large, but not luxurious. I would like a bit more horizontal space, but it’s far from a dealbreaker. The glass pad uses Windows precision drivers, and I found gestures generally worked on the first try. It had a bit more friction under my finger than I would like, though. HP Envy 15 Audio With a mix of top and bottom-firing speakers tuned by Bang & Olufsen, the Envy 15 is a decent sound machine. Sure, like most laptops, it’s lacking in bass. But it makes up for that in clear, clean sound otherwise. When I listened to Fuel’s “Hemorrhage (In My Hands),” the strings, drums and guitars were evenly mixed, while the vocals were finely layered on top. HP includes the Bang & Olufsen Audio Control app, though my suggestion would be not to mess with it. There are presets for different types of music, but I found that anything other than the HP Optimized equalizer were lacking and sounded flatter. HP Envy 15 Upgradeability HP has made some strides here. The company hasn’t put the screws underneath the rubber feet which could rip or tear. Now, there are five Torx screws you need to remove, and then a pry tool will get the bottom of the laptop off. There are two different lengths of screws, so be sure to remember which goes where. The RAM is immediately accessible, as are two PCIe SSD slots. In our review unit, only one was filled, so it would be simple to add more storage. The battery, of course, is also accessible. HP Envy 15 Battery Life Perhaps it’s a mix of a 4K OLED display and discrete graphics, but the Envy 15 configuration we reviewed is the type of laptop you’ll want to keep near a charger. It ran for 5 hours and 30 minutes on our battery test, which continuously browses the web, runs OpenGL tests and streams video, all over Wi-Fi at a 150 nits of brightness. The MacBook Pro was the undisputed battery king of the group with just under 11 hours of battery life. The MSI Prestige ran for 9:49, while the XPS 15 lasted for 8:01 (this laptop also has a 4K screen, but it’s not OLED, and it has a lesser discrete graphics card). Heat During our Cinebench R20 stress test, we took skin temperatures to get an idea of how hot the HP Envy 15 would be to a person using it while under load. The center of the keyboard, between the G and H keys, measured 38.2 degrees Celsius (100.7 degrees Fahrenheit) and the touchpad reached 32.7 degrees Celsius (90.9 degrees Fahrenheit). The hottest point on the bottom of the laptop was 46.9 degrees Celsius (116.4 degrees Fahrenheit), which is a bit toasty. HP Envy 15 Webcam The Envy 15 features a 720p webcam that gets the job done, even if it’s not as nice as an external option. This one actually took a sharper photo than most, and I could make out details in my hair and skin, for instance. But it leaned towards cooler colors, with a blue tint on my skin that made colors slightly less accurate. Even more interesting than the webcam itself is the security system that HP has built around it. The F12 key enables a physical shutter underneath the bezel, which blocks the camera with a small cover. But it doesn’t just block the camera; it also removes it from the Windows 10 Device Manager, disabling it entirely. So when you go to use the camera, it won’t even notice the laptop has a webcam unless you unblock it. It doesn’t, however, do anything to keep your microphone from recording or picking up sound. HP Envy 15 Software and Warranty HP has loaded up the Envy 15 with software, much of it bloatware. There are some good apps , for sure. Among them, HP Command Center offers performance profiles that give you options based on system noise and skin temperatures as well as the ability to change what software gets bandwidth priority. HP also has QuickDrop to transfer files between your PC and phone, as well as Display Control to adjust to different color profiles. But HP has added a lot of third-party software, including McAfee LiveSafe and McAfee Personal Security, ExpressVPN, Booking.com Netflix and Simple Solitaire. There are also links in the Start Menu to LastPass and Utomik, a game subscription service. Amazon and Dropbox are both pinned to the taskbar, and Amazon, LastPass and Utomik are all also present as bookmarks in the Edge browser. All of that is on top of the usual junk that comes built into Windows 10, like Hulu, Candy Crush Friends, Farm Heroes saga, Spotify, Hotspot Shield Free VPN and Disney Magic Kingdom. HP sells the Envy 15 with a 1-year warranty. Configurations We reviewed a $1,499.99 version of the Envy 15, with an Intel Core i7-10750H, Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q, 16GB of RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD storage with 32GB Intel Optane and a 15.6-inch 4K AMOLED display. The cheapest version is $1,149.99 with the same Intel Core CPU and 16GB of RAM, alongside an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti, an 1920 x 1080 non-touch screen and a measly 256GB SSD. This version can be configured for different amounts of memory, storage, display choices and the option for a GTX 1660 Ti. If you want to max the system out, you have to get the Costco-exclusive $1,899.99 configuration with the same CPU and GPU as our review unit, but with 32GB of RAM and a 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD. Bottom Line If the RTX 2060 Max-Q is a selling point for you, there aren’t a ton of other productivity-focused laptops to consider. The Dell XPS 15, the closest Windows rival, only goes up to a GTX 1650 Ti. In turn, it’s lighter and more portable. But if you’ll sacrifice a few ounces and some thickness for more graphics power and an OLED screen, the Envy will serve you well.
  19. NEW YORK: Apple and Google dropped the po[CENSORED]r game Fortnite from their app stores after the game's developer introduced a direct payment plan that bypasses their platforms. Apple and Google both take a 30% cut from in-app revenue purchases in games, which has long been a sore spot with developers. Fortnite is free, but users can pay for in game accoutrements like weapons and skins. Its developer, Epic Games, said in a blog post Thursday that it was introducing Epic Direct payments, a direct payment plan for Apple's iOS and Google Play. Epic said the system is the same payment system it already uses to process payments on PC and Mac computers and Android phones. Apple and Google said the service violates their guidelines. "Epic enabled a feature in its app which was not reviewed or approved by Apple, and they did so with the express intent of violating the App Store guidelines regarding in-app payments that apply to every developer who sells digital goods or services," Apple said in statement. Google said Fortnite will remain available on Android, just not through its app store. Android users can download the app from other app stores, although that's generally not an option for iPhone users. Epic Games did not immediately return a request for comment. Epic's Fortnite Twitter account said the company would debut a new short film called "Nineteen Eighty-Fortnite," a seeming parody of Apple's iconic "1984" commercial that introduced the Macintosh computer. It has also filed a complaint against Apple in the U.S. District Court in Northern California for dropping Fortnite.
  20. Get Adobe's full collection of desktop and mobile apps for less If you're a student who relies on Adobe's creative apps to help with your design or art work, then now is a good to time to sign up to Creative Cloud. Right now, students are eligible for a massive 65% discount on the full software suite, which includes the likes of Photoshop and InDesign. Sadly, Adobe has now halted its temporarily free Creative Cloud licenses, which it offered in March to students who were forced to study from home during the early days of the global pandemic. But this discount still represents a huge saving on the usual monthly or annual subscription fee for Creative Cloud. If you go for monthly payments, it'll save you $33/£33.70/AU$55 per month compared to the standard price for an 'All Apps' subscription. And the savings are almost identical if you opt for a pre-paid annual plan, with the student discount slashing $360 /£400/AU$607.20 off the usual price of $599.98/£596.33/AU$871.07 for the whole year. But what are the benefits of signing up to Creative Cloud and what's the best way of getting the discount? In this guide we'll answer both questions, as well as showing you what you get with Adobe's 'All Apps' subscription, so you can decide if it's the right thing for you. Why sign up to Adobe Creative Cloud? As the name suggests, Creative Cloud is a collection of over 20 desktop and mobile apps that give you professional tools for design, photography, video and UX creation, among other things. Basically, if you want to create anything visual, for print or the web, Creative Cloud will likely have the tools to help you make it. The cloud subscription aspect means that you don't own the software you're using, and if you cancel the payments you'll no longer have access to those apps. But the system has benefits too, with Adobe pushing out regular updates to the apps and also giving you 100GB of cloud storage for the likes of Adobe Spark, Adobe Fonts and Adobe Portfolio. Creative Cloud apps are also very nicely integrated with each other, which means it's easy to switch between the many in the 'All Apps' subscription. Here's the full list of apps you get – not bad for $19.99/£16.24/AU$21.99 p/month with the 65% student discount: Photoshop Illustrator InDesign Adobe XD Lightroom Lightroom Classic Acrobat Pro Animate Dreamweaver Premiere Pro Premiere Rush After Effects Dimension Audition InCopy Media Encoder Character Animator Prelude Fuse Bridge How do I qualify for Adobe Creative Cloud student discount? Naturally, you need to be a current student to qualify for the 65% off Creative Cloud discount. According to Adobe's terms and conditions, you need to be at least 13 years old and enrolled in one of these three institutions: University or college: an accredited public or private university or college (including community, junior, or vocational college) that grants degrees requiring not less than the equivalent of two years of full-time study Primary or secondary school: an accredited public or private primary or secondary school providing full-time instruction Home school: as defined by state home schooling regulations Fortunately, this is relatively easy to prove. Adobe says that "if you provide a school-issued email address during purchase you are instantly verified", and these include .edu or .k12 in the US, .ac.uk in the UK, or "other email domains sponsored by educational institutions". If you don't have one of those email addresses, then you'll likely need to prove your eligibility after you've signed up to Creative Cloud with another document – these include a school ID card, report card or a tuition bill. One other thing to bear in mind is that the 65% discount is only for the first year – after that, Adobe automatically renews your contract at $29.99/£25.28 p/month, which is still between 44%-50% off the usual price, if not quite as juicy as the first-year discount. If you want to try the full suite of apps before diving in, you can also sign up to a free 7-day trial. How do I get the Adobe Creative Cloud student discount? If you've got your student email address handy, you can sign up for the Creative Cloud student offer at the links below. You can pay for the subscription monthly or in one lump sum, and the cost for each is pretty much identical over the course of a year. It's also possible to get the pre-paid annual student discount through Amazon, where it's fractionally cheaper, so we've included links to those deals too.
