  1. Multiple delays of Intel's 10 nm process technology have affected the company's roadmap in many ways. While the company seems to be on track with its client 10nm CPUs, server processors are a whole different matter as they have different qualification and production cycles. In its Q3 FY2020 conference call, Intel announced that it would have to delay initial shipments of its 3rd Generation Xeon Scalable 'Ice Lake-SP' CPUs to Q1 2021. "We and our customers are excited about the upcoming launch of our 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable product, the Ice Lake-SP," said Bob Swan, CEO of Intel, during the company's earnings call with analysts and investors. "We are targeting qualification at the end of Q4 with volume ramp shortly after in Q1." Intel once implied that its Xeon Scalable 'Ice Lake-SP' processors would launch in 'the middle of 2020,' but eventually said that the CPUs would ship in the fourth quarter of this year mostly because of delays associated with the ramp of 10 nm products. Back in July, Intel said it would ship its first Ice Lake-SP parts late this year. Yet, for the sake of truth is necessary to note that for a while, Intel has promised Ice Lake-SP's volume ramp in 2021. "We are also targeting initial production shipments of our first 10-nanometer-based Xeon Scalable product, Ice Lake, for the end of the year," said Swan. This week the company confirmed that it had built pre-PRQ reserves of its Ice Lake-SP parts, which is why its operating margin was down in the third quarter. Intel's production release qualification (PRQ) is not a high-volume product launch. Yet PRQ parts are considered sellable as they have passed Intel's qualification requirements: They are produced in high volume, are ready for commercial shipment, and are typically supported by the applicable Intel warranty agreements and customer presentable documentation. At the PRQ stage, Intel's partners have to essentially finalize all their designs and BIOSes to get ready for a commercial launch. Essentially, Intel is set to start volume production of its Ice Lake-SP processors in the coming weeks, but it is not going to ramp up manufacturing until Q1 2021 as its partners yet have to pass all their qualification requirements. Intel's delay of first commercial Ice Lake-SP shipments to Q1 2021 cannot be considered dramatic or a demonstration that the company's 2nd-Gen 10nm process technology is still not ready for big chips as the company is about to start building Ice Lake-SP PRQ silicon in the coming weeks. But what remains to be seen is how quickly Intel can ramp up production of its next-generation Xeon Scalable parts in Q1 and how quickly its clients will adopt the new CPUs.

  2. Windows 10 latest cumulative update for October appears to be causing a whole host of serious problems for some users, including critical bits of the desktop interface seemingly vanishing or going wrong. This is happening to those who have applied the latest round of patching for Windows 10 November 2019 Update and May 2020 Update, according to a report from Windows Latest. How to speed up Windows 10 We solve 100 common Windows 10 problems How to uninstall a Windows 10 update There are a range of different issues, as mentioned, although it’s not clear how widespread these individual gremlins in the works might be. Some of the thorniest problems are with the core interface of Windows 10, worryingly, with some folks reporting that File Explorer itself has become unstable post-update, as we've previously seen. In Microsoft’s Feedback Hub, one report reads: “Taskbar constantly appearing and disappearing, obviously explorer crashing. Happens for about 30 seconds, then finally the desktop comes up and Explorer starts working. Uninstalled KB4579311 [patch for May 2020 Update] and system boots normally.” Inaction Center: To compound that UI misery, Windows Latest also observed that the Action Center effectively went missing on its Windows 10 installation, simply serving up a blank panel when accessed. This problem persisted until the latest cumulative update was uninstalled, at which point it went away. It certainly seems like this update is causing some serious trouble on the Windows 10 desktop, then. Various general performance issues have also been reported, with PCs behaving sluggishly after the October cumulative update, and Blue Screen of Death crashes (observed with an earlier update, too) are also popping up. On top of that, as we’ve heard before, some users are reporting that the update is causing problems with their printer, and they’re not being able to use that device. Fortunately, the solution is easy in this case, as Windows Latest notes: you simply disconnect the printer, reboot the PC, then reconnect the printer. Finally, there are scattered reports of various network and internet problems, including an issue with network packet loss. All this adds up to a whole heap of trouble for Microsoft, it would seem, so keep your fingers crossed that some solutions are on the way in short order, particularly for those broken bits of the Windows 10 UI.

  3. Becoming a thane in Skyrim can feel like a bit of an anti-climax. You work hard, earn the respect of the local jarl, and what do you have to show for it? A weapon that’s probably worse than whatever you’re currently rocking, maybe a housecarl, and a get-out-of-jail-free card. Modder OneOnOne1162 has identified this issue and aims to address it with their extensive ‘True Thane’ mod. For starters, it allows you to trade in your old thane weapons for higher-level variants by making a quick trip to the local steward. Once you’ve got your shiny new Axe of Whiterun, maybe you’ll feel the urge to test it out on a nearby NPC in broad daylight? That’s totally fine; you’re a thane! If anyone kicks up a fuss, just blast them with your thane shout and watch as they suddenly remember how very important you are. If you then catch someone muttering something untoward in the wake of your display, simply make a spurious accusation about them to a passing guard and hope that you nail the speech check, which will vary depending on whether the person you’re trying to have nicked is, for example, a beggar or a member of the Jarl’s court. Here’s how to imprison your enemies By this point, you’ll be incredibly po[CENSORED]r with the local townsfolk – so it’s time to tax them. Again, just head on over to your friendly steward and start collecting taxes once a month from each of your holds. You can either receive a notification whenever your taxes are in or have a courier come to deliver the news and your cash. There’s a lot to this one, and you can find all the necessary info over on Nexus Mods. It’s definitely worth a look if you want to add some sweet simulation elements to the RPG game. And if you’re in the market for more of the best Skyrim mods, we’ve got you covered.

  6. While almost everyone is talking mainly about BMW’s new generation of electrified and fully-electric vehicles, the brand from Bavaria is not neglecting its combustion-powered models, too. Most of the company’s crossovers and SUVs are planned to be refreshed in the next 12 to 18 months and today we can share the first spy photos of the X3 M LCI. In BMW’s language, LCI stands for Life Cycle Impulse - the marque’s fancy way to say a facelift. What you see in the gallery below is a test prototype that was spied by our photographers on site approaching the Nurburgring and making a few fast laps around the track. It’s a bit weird to see a refresh is in the works for the performance SUV given its relatively young age. Gallery: 2021 BMW X3 M first spy photos : Nevertheless, this prototype wears thin camouflage foil covering both the front and rear ends, hinting at some visual revisions at the back and up front. However, these will be kept to a minimum as we expect only a few minor tweaks to be notable at the back. Some sources say the headlights will be replaced with new and sleeker clusters but we are unable to confirm that at the moment. Considering the X3 M’s performance nature, we expect BMW to give the crossover a few improvements in the tech department. New suspension and steering settings sound probable but we doubt there’ll be any revisions in the engine bay. As a reminder, the X3 M has a 3.0-liter twin-turbo six with 473 horsepower (352 kilowatts) and 442 pound-feet (600 Newton-meters) of twist in standard form and 503 hp (375 kW) in Competition guise. Honestly, we were surprised to see the X3 M back at the Nurburgring and we doubt the refreshed model will debut before the end of next year.

  7. Alpenföhn is a German cooling manufacturer whose name doesn't come up all too often, but it's rearing its head with a new all-in-one liquid cooler called the Gletcherwasser. According to Kitguru, the cooler was built in collaboration with cooling and overclocking expert Der8auer. With a name that translates to 'Glacier Water', we expect the AIOs to run very cool, and they're coming in 240mm and 360mm sizes, Both of those will come either in their standard variant or in HS flavors, the latter of which has the units pack high-speed fans. The above table details the Wing Boost 3 fan characteristics, but of course note that these are the figures per fan -- the 360mm unit will be louder if all fans spin at the same speed as on the 240 AIO, but they won't need to due to the increased radiator surface. The radiators are 27 mm thick which is fairly standard, and the total length of tubing included is 465 mm. The pump runs at speeds between 1200 RPM and 2550 RPM, and Alpenföhn includes a small tube of Thermal Grizzly Hydronaut thermal paste with the AIOs. RGB on the units is handled by the somewhat standardized 3-pin addressable-RGB ecosystem, compatible with the vast majority of mainstream motherboards currently on the market. No word on whether these units will make it to the US market. We have reached out to Der8auer to ask about the extent of his involvement in this project and will update this story once we know more.
  8. Google has unveiled a new look for a number of its most po[CENSORED]r apps as it gears up to roll out the next version of G Suite. Now known as Google Workspace, the company's online collaboration platform contains many of its most well-known offerings, including the likes of Gmail, Google Docs and Google Meet. And now the first look at how the new platform will change things has officially been released, giving users a taste of the future of using Google's tools online. Check out our list of the best Microsoft Office alternatives around Office 365 vs G Suite: What's the best office software? Here's our list of the best productivity tools on the market Google Workspace redesign : Many users have now reported seeing new icons for many Google Workspace apps already rolling out, some apparently ahead of schedule, across desktop and Android. Most striking is the new logo for Gmail, marking the first major departure away from the iconic white and red envelope design in the service's history. The envelope itself is largely gone, replaced by a multi-coloured M that only resembles the former logo. There's also a colourful new Google Meet icon that incorporates the four colours of the Google logo, whilst keeping green as the main colour in a nod to its origins as Hangouts, with a similar scheme in the new Google Chat icon, which now uses message chat bubbles in place of the format @ logo, as well as now featuring a new, larger status bar. Finally, Google Drive also gets a slight colour boost thanks to a new splash of red, with the main change coming in how the icon is shaped, now featuring slightly softer, rounded edges than before. Google Workspace features all the old favorites - Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet etc. - but according to Google, offers a more “deeply integrated user experience”. In essence, Google has improved the interoperability of its various productivity services, blurring the lines between each product for a more fluid feel. The company has also introduced a new service tier, called Business Plus, which features “enhanced security and management controls”.
  9. Ah, Keanu Reeves. No one is able to oscillate between being effortlessly smooth and gloriously uncool in quite the same way. And, incredibly, he’s also now a mind reader to boot. Yes, real-life Keanu features heavily in Cyberpunk 2077’s latest trailer, and he’s got some questions for you. Chief among them is why on earth you want to visit Night City in the first place? If this trailer is any indication, all you’ll be doing during your time there is getting experimented on, shot at, and shoved around. “Why do you come here?”, he asks (in a rather pressing manner, I might add). “For fun? For power? Looking for a shock to your system?”. But, by some miracle, Keanu already knows the answer – you want to play for all of these reasons. Given the short, snappy nature of the trailer, it’s no surprise that it opts to focus on Cyberpunk 2077’s action elements. I believe that we’ve already seen all of the cinematic footage included, but Keanu’s presence certainly adds a special something. Here’s the latest Cyberpunk 2077 trailer: We’re now a mere month away from the RPG game’s November 19 release date. If you’re not feeling especially patient, we’ve got plenty of intriguing info on the Cyberpunk 2077 map, vehicles, and factions. You should probably also check out the game’s system requirements ahead of launch, as well as decide whether to buy it on GOG or Steam? Decisions, decisions.

  13. The evidence is mounting that the next-generation Ford F-150 Raptor might be available exclusively in the four-door SuperCrew cab configuration, at least for a little while. The latest clue comes from Ford Authority who says its team is "hearing early whispers" that this is the case. Earlier indications about the next-gen Raptor's body style came from the leaked VIN decoder for the 2021 model year truck. It only showed the four-door SuperCrew cab. All of this suggests the SuperCab with its small, swing-out door wouldn't be available for the performance pickup's first model year and perhaps even for the vehicle's full lifespan. Gallery: 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor Spy Photos : Ford confirms the next-gen F-150 Raptor arrives for the 2021 model year, but the automaker is keeping technical details about it a secret. The latest rumor is that buyers would have two engines to pick from. One of them would be the 5.2-liter supercharged V8 from the Mustang Shelby GT500 but making 725 to 750 horsepower (541 to 559 kilowatts) in this application. The other engine choice would be a high-output twin-turbo V6 with hybrid assistance. It's allegedly related to the powertrain in the Lincoln Aviator where this powertrain makes 494 hp (368 kW) and 630 lb-ft (465 Nm) of torque. 14. Asus has revealed the new VivoBook Flip 14 (TP470EZ) laptop, bearing Intel's 11th Generation Tiger Lake processor and unreleased DG1 discrete graphics card (via @momomo_us). According to the VivoBook Flip 14's product page, Asus has outfitted the device with "First Intel Discrete Graphics," which likely refers to Intel's DG1 discrete graphics card that is rumored to have up to 96 EUs. A quick dive into the HTML code shows metadata that reads, "VivoBook Flip 14 is powered by the latest Intel Core i7 processor with Intel Iris Xe Max graphics." The Iris Xe Max had already surfaced before, with 96 EUs ticking up to 1.55 GHz. On another note, we've also seen two Xe GPUs running in a dual-GPU setup. Although unconfirmed, we have a theory that Tiger Lake iGPUs could conceptually function in tandem with DG1 to provide even greater performance than what a sole DG1 unit could offer. The VivoBook Flip 14 comes with two Tiger Lake options: You can pick between the Core i7-1165G7 or Core i5-1135G7 processors. Both chips come with a quad-core, eight-thread configuration. The Core i7-1165G7 and Core i5-1135G7 have their own Iris Xe graphics engine. The 10nm processors possess 96 EUs and 80 EUs, respectively, with a maximum of 1.3 GHz. The Core i7-1165G7 sports a 2.8 GHz base clock, 4.7 GHz boost clock, and 12MB of cache, while the Core i5-1135G features a 2.4 GHz base clock, 4.2 GHz boost clock, and 8MB of L3 cache. Out of the two, the Core i7-1165G7 is the only part that comes equipped with an Image Processing Unit (IPU). The Tiger Lake processor of your choice can be accompanied by 8GB or 16GB of LPDDR4X-4266 memory. It's important to choose wisely since there won't be options for expansion further down the line. The VivoBook Flip 14 can come with a 128Gb, 256Gb, 512GB, or 1TB PCIe SSD. Asus offers an optional configuration with an Intel Optane Memory H10 drive with 32GB plus a 512GB SSD. The VivoBook Flip 14 is a thin and light 2-in-1 device that measures 32.4 x 22 x 1.87cm (12.75 x 8.66 x 0.73 inches) and weighs 1.5kg (3.31 pounds). The laptop features an indie black exterior and a 14-inch LED-backlit panel with a Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. The frameless NanoEdge display flaunts an impressive 82% screen-to-body ratio with wide viewing angles of 178 degrees. There was enough room for Asus to slap an HD webcam on the laptop too. The svelte body doesn't mean the VivoBook Flip 14 is short on connectivity either. The laptop offers one Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, one USB 2.0 port, an HDMI port, an audio jack, and a microSD card reader. There's no Ethernet port, though, so you'll be relying on a wireless connection. At any rate, you shouldn't have any complaints since the VivoBook Flip 14 can be configured with Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 5 with Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. Asus integrated a three-cell, lithium-polymer battery with a capacity of 42 Wh into the VivoBook Flip 14. It supports fast charging, and with the included 65W power adapter, the VivoBook Flip 14 can go from zero to 60% in a mere 49 minutes. Asus hasn't revealed the pricing or availability of the VivoBook Flip 14.
  15. The massive Twitter hack that took place back in July came about due to stolen VPN credentials. It has now been revealed that Twitter employees were tricked into handing over their account details by hackers that had managed to create a site that looked identical to the genuine VPN login page. The hackers telephoned members of staff claiming to be from the social network’s IT department before asking for the relevant credentials. Such claims were believed because VPN issues were commonplace at the time. The hack made headlines all over the world, with the accounts of high-profile Twitter users - including Barack Obama and Elon Musk - compromised. Many profiles were used to promote a Bitcoin scam. Simple but effective A report by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) has now shed more light on the breach, which was carried out in a relatively straightforward manner despite the huge technological resources at Twitter’s disposal. The NYDFS decided to look into the hack because several cryptocurrency firms that they regulate were impacted. “The implications of the Twitter Hack extend far beyond this garden-variety fraud,” the NYDFS report read. “There are well-documented examples of social media being used to mani[CENSORED]te markets and interfere with elections, often with the simple use of a single compromised account or a group of fake accounts. In the hands of a dangerous adversary, the same access obtained by the Hackers – the ability to take control of any Twitter users’ account – could cause even greater harm.” The hackers' decision to pose as an internal IT team may have proven more effective due to the sheer number of employees who would have been working remotely at the time due to the coronavirus pandemic. If businesses are to encourage more members of staff to work from home, they must first make sure that they have updated security protocols in place to prevent cybercriminals taking advantage of any potential IT issues.
  16. Ahead of Fortnitemares 2020, dataminers have uncovered a host of incoming additions that should help you get your Halloween off to a suitably spooky start. First came news of some Halloween-themed skins, now we have a clearer picture of the upcoming event’s loot pools and consumables. ‘Candy Buckets’ and ‘Broom Boxes’ will feature this time around, it seems. By retrieving and opening a bucket, you can net yourself a ‘Pepper Mint’, ‘Hop Drop’, ‘Candy Corn’, ‘Jelly Bean’, or ‘Thermal Taffy’. These will likely be themed versions of existing Fortnite items. However, the most intriguing addition is arguably the ‘W Broom’ consumable found within ‘Broom Boxes’. A rideable broom would be quite a treat, though nothing has been confirmed as of yet. Historically, Fortnitemares has landed on October 26, 25, and 29, meaning 2020’s event is likely lurking just around the corner. If you missed our coverage of the leaked Halloween skins from last week, they include the Crypt Crasher Pack, with Midnight Dusk, Arachne Couture, and Nightsurf Bomber skins, and the Ultimate Reckoning Pack, with Gnash, Violent, and La Parca. Here’s Fortnite dataminer FireMonkey elaborating on a tweet from HYPEX. And here’s a detailed video breakdown of the latest skins : It’s worth noting none of these goodies have been officially confirmed by developer Epic Games just yet, but given that they’ve popped up in game files and there’s the tradition of Fortnitemares from years before, it’s likely we’ll see these appear in-game pretty soon. If they aren’t to your liking, you could well find what you’re looking for in our list of the best Fortnite skins.

  19. Last month, we've seen the changes that Cadillac will employ on its sedan offerings for the next model year. The 2021 Cadillac CT4 and CT5 are getting substantial updates, even though they're just in their second year of being offered. However, Cadillac will reportedly offer a new package for the CT5 – more specifically, for the CT5 Sport trim. According to a report by GM Authority, the CT5 Sport will get a V Performance Package, designed to bridge the gap between the Sport and V-Series trims. Gallery: 2021 Cadillac CT4 and CT5 : As the name implies, the V Performance Package adopts performance upgrades from the V-Series trim and then added to the CT5 Sport. These upgrades include the performance suspension, mechanical limited-slip differential, and the recently-unveiled Magnetic Ride Control 4.0. The fourth-generation of GM's proprietary suspension technology offers a 45 percent faster damping response when compared to its predecessor. To get the V Performance Package, buyers will also need to choose the Brembo V Performance brakes. They also need to opt for the RWD model since it will not be offered when running on all fours. Of course, the CT5 Sport with V Performance Package will also get the bulk of updates for the 2021 model year. These include a better 12-inch fully digital instrument cluster and an updated infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration. Exterior paint colors such as Red Obsession Tintcoat and Royal Spice Metallic will also be dropped from the options, which will be replaced with Infrared Tintcoat. The CT4-V and CT5-V can be exclusively had in Rift Metallic paint job. GM Authority didn't report on the pricing of the V Performance Package for the CT5 Sport, but it's expected to be revealed in the next few months or when the configurator goes up for the 2021 model year.

  20. A few days ago, we covered Asus's new Gundam edition PC components, aimed towards fans of the Anime series in Japanese markets. One of the components featured was an Asus Gundam Edition Maximus XII Extreme Z490 motherboard with a fully decked-out monoblock, but the lack of any Gundam themed RTX GPUs to pair with the board felt a bit left us wanting. Fortunately, Asus rectifies the issue with a new ROG STRIX RTX 3090 Gundam themed graphics card coming soon (via @harukaze5719). The card is beautiful, featuring a white-colored shroud accompanied by blue and red accents. If this 3090 is like other Gundam-styled Asus products, then the color scheme will be the only differentiating factor between it and the vanilla ROG Strix unit. Which isn't a bad thing: the PCB and cooler on the ROG Strix RTX 3090 are some of the best features on the beefy triple-slot, triple-fan cooler design that comes with three eight-pin power connectors. Hopefully, Asus will add some additional features to make this card more special, like a higher boost frequency and perhaps some extra lighting (compared to the original card). It's nice to see Asus developing Gundam-themed components for the high-end space. Hopefully, we'll get to see this design aesthetic featured in cheaper GPUs like the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 soon.
  21. As part of its recent October 2020 Patch Tuesday updates, Microsoft has made a significant change to the way in which Windows verifies drivers that could lead to headaches for end users. The reason behind the change is well-intentioned as the software giant wants to prevent malware from exploiting vulnerable hardware drivers to compromise Windows 10 systems. Microsoft's new driver verification model will certainly help protect users but it could also lead to driver errors in Windows 10 if the company is unable to verify the software publisher of a driver. Currently Windows 10 displays two driver error messages that users might seen when the verification process fails. The first error message reads “Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software” while the second reads “No signature was present in the subject”. These error messages imply that Windows discovered an improperly formatted catalog file while trying to validate a driver and that the installation process will fail. New driver system : According to a Microsoft support document, users “should contact the driver vendor or device manufacturer (OEM) and ask them for an updated driver to correct the issue” if Windows 10 is unable to verify a driver. While this makes sense, Windows 10 users will likely be frustrated by the fact that they now have to reach out to a company with such an odd request as the result of a change Microsoft made to its own operating system. Thankfully though, users are most likely to experience these issues when they apply old driver updates. However, installing an older driver can often be the only fix available when a company releases a new driver that doesn't work. Hopefully Microsoft's new driver system will improve over time but if you do receive a driver error message before then, you'll have to reach out to a driver vendor or device manufacturer directly with the hope that they have an updated driver ready to fix the issue.
