  1. George Boeckstaens (inset), 75, covered his house with swastikas in a dedication to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. Nazi insignia adorns every wall, a giant red Nazi banner hangs from a tree in the garden and the chimney is decorated with a swastika and the words 'Mein Kampf' (left) written in Dutch. The Hitler-loving pensioner even renamed his house in the town of Keerbergen in central Belgium's Flemish Brabant province 'Het Adelaarsnest' or The Eagle's Nest (bottom right). The bizarre decorations to the modern house also include a strange wooden statue of a figure with a swastika on its forehead performing a Nazi salute (top right). A fake human skull has been fixed to a drainpipe along with the warning: 'Halt! Hitler!' Prosecutors said he could be jailed for his bizarre hobby.

  5. Microsoft emitted an Azure Pipelines app for Slack today while also reminding devs of the tweaks made to breakpoints in the upcoming combo of Visual Studio 2019 and .NET Core 3.0. Devs hiding in the hipster world of Slack were given the bad news today that there is no escape from Azure Pipelines as Microsoft made an app available for its continuous integration and delivery service. The cloudy service provides pipelines for Linux, macOS and Windows and allows users up to ten free parallel jobs for open source projects. The new Slack app will bombard channels with notifications for build events such as completed builds, releases and so on. It is, of course, up to the user to set up and manage those subscriptions and decide which lucky channels will receive emissions from Azure Pipelines. From the department of "I’m sure the debugger already did this" comes a reminder from Microsoft of one of the many new toys due to arrive in Visual Studio 2019 and .NET Core 3.0: Data Breakpoints, a tool that breaks when a specific object’s property changes. Previously the domain of C++ coders (from Visual Studio 2017 15.8), the advent of .NET Core 3.0 (in preview form at least) means that developers in less hairy and scary languages can join in the fun. While absolutely convinced that this functionality has always been there (spoiler: it hadn’t), we took Visual Studio 2019 Preview 2 out for a spin and threw some code at the new C# compiler to see what happened. azure Scaling up Azure Service Fabric Linux Clusters using Ubuntu Xenial? Not so fast, friend READ MORE From a dev’s perspective, data breakpoints are an excellent idea when one is trying to work out what bit of naughty code is changing the value of a property. Often one ends up having to spray code with breakpoints or shoving a breakpoint into the setter of an object. The latter approach usually ends up with the dev holding down the resume key to deal with what feels like hundreds of unnecessary stops. Data breakpoints get fired when a specific object’s property gets changed, and are set by selecting the new "Break when value changes" option in the context menu of the property in the Locals window. A big, red spot on the value indicates the code will break when it changes, and it also puts an appearance into the Breakpoints window. Unfortunately for .NET Framework users, it looks like only .NET Core devs will be able to join the party, which is a shame because this is a truly useful feature that will save coders a good chunk of time in tracking down potentially tricky bugs. There are some downsides. Anything that can’t be expanded in the tooltip, Locals, Autos or Watch windows need not apply, and Static Variables are right out. Fields inside of structs are also not supported right now, but the gang are apparently working on it. ®
  6. Since NVIDIA announced their GeForce RTX line of graphics cards, there’s been a lot of excitement for real-time ray tracing, but not a lot of actual support. Battlefield V and Metro Exodus include ray tracing, but the large majority of big games are still playing wait and see with the new tech. Well, we may be about to see ray tracing in a lot more games, as Unreal Engine now supports ray tracing and path tracing. The latest preview version of Unreal Engine 4 includes both low-level and high-level support for ray tracing, which means the thousands of developers who use Epic’s engine should now be able to implement the fancy new reflection tech relatively easily. Needless to say, this is a big boost for NVIDIA’s RTX cards as ray tracing uptake has been slower than expected, with many games, such as Shadow of the Tomb Raider, holding back despite promising to support the tech. Real-Time Ray Tracing and Path Tracing (Early Access) Added ray tracing low level support: Implemented a low level layer on top of UE DirectX 12 that provides support for DXR and allows creating and using ray tracing shaders (ray generation shaders, hit shaders, etc) to add ray tracing effects. Added high-level ray tracing features: Rect area lights Soft shadows Reflections Reflected shadows Ambient occlusion RTGI (real time global illumination) Translucency Clearcoat IBL Sky Geometry types: Triangle meshes, Static, Skeletal (Morph targets & Skin cache), Niagara particles support Texture LOD Denoiser Shadows, Reflections, AO Path Tracert Unbiased, full GI path tracer for making ground truth reference renders inside UE4. It will be interesting to see how quickly we see Unreal Engine devs implementing ray tracing in their games. Recent major titles built with Unreal include Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Kingdom Hearts III, Vampyr, Ace Combat 7, and Soulcalibur VI. Which games would you like to see get a bit shinier?
  7. Alpina has done more than upgrade the engine: A new stainless-steel Alpina exhaust system equipped with active exhaust valves offers reduced weight and back pressure. Controlled by the Driving Experience Control switch, drivers can alternate the exhaust sound from comfort to sport. Alpina has also revised the suspension system of its 7-Series, offering variable ride height settings with a range of 1.4 inches. When the sport-plus mode is selected, or at speeds above 140 mph, the car lowers its ride height by 0.6 inches to offer better handling and a lower center of gravity. Drivers can also raise the ride height by 0.8 inches when road conditions call for it, which is a feature that works up to a speed of 20 mph. Of course, a sedan that can do 205 mph needs all the stopping power it can get, which is why Alpina has fitted the B7 with a revised braking system that features four-piston calipers up front with 15.55-inch-by-1.42-inch discs, while out back the B7 gets floating calipers with larger 15.67 x 1.10 inch discs. When it comes to exterior upgrades, Alpina has fitted the B7 with front and rear bumpers of its own design, the latter featuring integrated exhaust tips from Alpina's own stainless steel sports exhaust system. A small spoiler has been added to the trunk lid (which also demonstrates just how much downforce the car needs at 205 mph), while the B7 sits on 8.5 x 20-inch and 10 x 20-inch Alpina Classic wheels wearing 255/40 ZR20 tires up front and 295/35 ZR20 in the rear. The tuning house also offers 21-inch wheels as an option. On the inside Alpina has reworked the cabin in its usual style, with plenty of leather. Since a good number of these cars will be chauffeur-driven in real life, as an option Alpina also offers Rear Executive Lounge Seating, designed to maximize rear seat comfort and connectivity. "In addition to four-zone automatic climate control and individual electrically adjustable comfort seats with massage function, the equipment package also includes active seat ventilation for all seats and an Executive Lounge Rear Console with Rear-seat entertainment Experience including a BMW Touch Command tablet," BMW says. "The Rear-seat entertainment system comprises two 10-inch full-HD displays complete with a Blu-ray player," BMW adds. "The system allows users to access the entertainment, navigation and online functions of the vehicle from the rear seats. The viewing angle of the screens, which now have touchscreen functionality, can be adjusted in accordance with the rear seat passengers’ seat position. Further improved hardware is the defining characteristic of the latest version of the BMW Touch Command unit. This removable tablet with a screen diagonal of seven inches can be used from any seat and even outside the vehicle." How much does a 205-mph luxury sedan with 600 hp on tap cost? The B7 will start at $142,695 in the U.S., and it already comes with just about all the options you'll need. As far as 200-mph-plus cars go, this appears to be quite a bargain, one which will be available starting in the second half of 2019. Now, if you could only find a place in the U.S. where you can actually reach 205 mph and safely decelerate from that speed. BMW's mid-cycle update for the 7-Series won't be hard to spot in traffic thanks to its ever-larger kidney grilles, but the first major refresh for Munich's flagship has helped achieve something else for longtime BMW tuner Alpina: The world's fastest sedan you can buy this year in the U.S. Alpina, as you recall, has been tuning BMW cars for the past 50 years, and one its most po[CENSORED]r models has been a reworked version of the 7-Series, which for the past couple of the generations has been dubbed the B7. Despite the fact that BMW offers a 6.6-liter V12 in the 7-Series, that isn't the engine you'll find under the hood of the Alpina's B7. Instead, the B7 uses a 4.4-liter V8 with two twin-scroll turbochargers tuned to 600 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed sport automatic transmission by ZF. Alpina has added intercoolers of its own design along with engine and transmission software, resulting in peak torque being on tap from just 2,000 rpm. "Transmission components such as the torque converter with lock-up clutch and the planetary gear sets are reinforced and along with the inner transmission cooling are designed to cope with the high torque output of the twin-turbocharged V8 engine," BMW adds. "This means that no torque reduction is necessary during upshifts." The result is improved throttle response, along with better performance in the most crucial rpm range. Alpina says that the B7 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 205 mph. The previous version of the B7 was just a fraction slower, pulling off launches in 3.6 seconds and boasting a top speed of 194 hp.
  8. Many fans, myself included, are expecting Avengers: Endgame to be Chris Evans’ last time playing Captain America for the MCU. Now, Evans is planning out his future and it looks like his first post-Avengers film will be Infinite. He is joining Antoine Fuqua for the thriller from Paramount that is an adaptation of D. Eric Maikranz’s novel The Reincarnationist Papers. The adaptation is being penned by Ian Shorr. “[The] script centers on a group of near-immortal men and women who are reincarnated over the centuries and known as “the Infinite.” To defeat an evil mastermind who wants to destroy the planet, the group must rely on a man who suffers from schizophrenia and will have to learn that all his vivid dreams are actually memories from past lives, in order to defeat the villain.” Lorenzo di Bonaventura , Mark Vahradian, and John Zaozirny will serve as producers with Rafi Crohn being an executive producer.
  9. Dramatic footage has emerged purportedly showing ISIS fanatics firing anti-tank missiles at US-backed forces in a bloody defence of their last Syrian stronghold. The video, believed to have been captured in the terror group's last holdout in Baghouz, near the Iraqi border, shows a guided weapon thudding into buildings. It is thought to show a recent confrontation between the extremists and Syrian Democratic Forces, a Kurdish-led coalition backed by Washington. The SDF has launched a final push this week to expel ISIS fanatics from the enclave. Thousands of people have fled Baghouz as the fighting rages, including women and children but also suspected jihadists. Today the Kurdish-led SDF were advancing slowly towards hundreds of jihadists, with both sides locked in heavy clashes. Footage shared online purportedly showed an ISIS fighter launching an anti-tank guided missile which spirals through the air before blowing up the top floor of a building. In another shot, a rocket destroys a wall with a missile, while a man shouts 'Allahu Akbar' - 'God is great'. RELATED ARTICLES Previous 1 Next ISIS executioner who murdered prisoner in beheading video is... ISIS has secret reserves of £230 million for future attacks... SHARE THIS ARTICLE Share The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the US-backed fighters were making painstaking progress with mines scattered throughout the sector. Hundreds of people fled the IS holdout in the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, an SDF spokesman said. The SDF believes 400 to 600 jihadists may be holed up there, including foreigners and other hardened militants. Men who had escaped were patted down and taken for retina scans. Since early December, more than 38,000 people, mostly wives and children of IS fighters, have fled into SDF-held areas, the Observatory said. That figure includes around 3,400 suspected jihadists detained by the SDF, according to the monitor. 'The bombing was unimaginable, we ran from one place to the other,' said Hala Hassan, 29, a woman from Syria's Deir al-Zor who escaped with her five children. She said 'fighters from all nationalities' were in the enclave. 'There was no food. We ate grass from the ground like sheep... ISIS had blocked the roads and smugglers wanted thousands of dollars,' she said. The SDF launched a military offensive in September to expel ISIS from the oil-rich province of Deir Ezzor.

  11. Roundup Last week the headlines were dominated by Microsoft seemingly putting the boot into its own productivity suites and bashing its elderly browser. But of course there was plenty else afoot within the sphere of Redmond. Skype smears Vaseline on the webcam It's nearly a year since Microsoft trailed blurry backgrounds in its collaboration product, Teams, before finally unleashing it in September 2018. It was only a matter of time before Skype got the same treatment, and last week lucky users got to join in the out-of-focus shenanigans. Those who have not stuck tape over their webcams (and donned the prerequisite tin-foil hat) can now allow Microsoft's all-seeing AI to separate them from their background with a flick of a switch. The AI has been trained sufficiently to spot hair, hands, arms and, as Microsoft promises, does indeed seamlessly smear the background (although I found the edge detection a little iffy on occasion). As a way of concealing the horror of an untidy room, or underwear draped over radiators, the tech works well. However, it can present a distraction during calls as one speculates what the caller is attempting to hide rather than listening to them. A Windows Insider Build a day helps you work, rest and Decay The Windows team emitted another build of Windows 10 in the form of 18334 and while there is, frankly, not a massive amount that's new, the software giant is keen for gamers to clamber aboard to track down DirectX bugs. To that end, it took the unusual step of allowing a limited number of lucky Insiders to play the zombie-swatting game, State of Decay. You can make your own jokes about the State of Decay within the bowels of Microsoft's Quality Assurance department. Fast Ring insiders got the build first, and those on Skip Ahead received it a few hours later. As for what is new, all Microsoft had to say was: "We're excited to bring technology tailor-made for gaming to Windows." With the final release potentially six weeks away, not much in the way of new stuff is a good thing. The long list of fixes included Win32 file association issues, a bug that threw an error when unzipping files and a black screen on Windows Sandbox startup. The known issues list has shrunk, but problems such as two Narrator voices piping up after the update still persist. Some real-time protection options for Malwarebytes Premium are also broken in the build. Small Basic Online hits the big one point oh The Small Basic crew emitted a preview of version 1 of the online edition of the tool last week. It is quite a substantial release for the community-driven project, with a buffed-up GUI, a new libraries pane to get users into the (hoped-for) Visual Studio groove, a new debugger, and a way to save files locally (in TXT format, if the user so desires). Small Basic, which turned 10 last year, is now an open-source, community-driven entity with desktop and online editions. Once stable, the preview will replace the existing v0.91. The gang plans to get the desktop and online incarnations synchronised for the 2.0 release, and are now able to build the desktop app from the GitHub repo. Being a preview, there are some known issues, including a long initial load time and the thing being a bit flaky in Edge (although the team did point out that "Google Chrome works fine"). More seriously, and in spite of a cheery exhortation to "kick the tires", it appears at present that the thing is missing wheels as attempting to join the preview fun is met with a stern "Error 403 - This web app is stopped" from Azure. We've contacted the team to find out what's up, and will report back with any response. Office Pro Plus to cover up its privates in response to Dutch concerns Microsoft has blinked in a face-off with Dutch lawmakers over the data slurping tendencies of its Office Pro Plus product. A report commissioned by the Dutch government, and published back in November 2018, made difficult reading for the Windows giant as it found the productivity suite was collecting telemetry (and other content) and squirting it back to servers in the US. That was a big no-no and caused the spectre of the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to rattle its chains in a threatening way. In a report last week, Microsoft confirmed that products that form part of its Office Pro Plus will be tweaked by the end of April to address the "concerns". Failure to do so could result in the Dutch unleashing the regulatory hounds. The company should have no problem dealing with some of the creepier tendencies of its products. After all, as CEO Satya Nadella memorably told us all last year: "Privacy is a human right." Scared of Visual Studio? You too can play with File Manager thanks to the Microsoft Store We first took a look at Microsoft's freshly open-sourced version of its venerable File Manager back in April 2018 and spent a delightful hour or so bathing in the warm waters of nostalgia thanks to the twin pleasures of GitHub and Visual Studio 2017. While downloading and compiling the code didn't present much of a problem, the gang has made it even easier to get into that whole retro vibe with a very lightly warmed-over version for the Microsoft Store. The only changes made since April's emission are bug fixes, so now anyone can take a nostalgic trip back to 1990, when the Hubble Space Telescope was launched, New Order were putting the World in Motion (replete with a memorable rap from footballer, John Barnes) and file management tools for Windows positively flew. Excuse us while we give these rose-tinted specs of ours a bit of a buffing
  12. AMD’s recently released Radeon VII graphics card will soon be getting support in the Radeon Pro software stack, making full use of its compute prowess. The AMD Radeon VII graphics card comes with the second generation Vega architecture based on the 7nm process node and as such, has a lot of potential for the enterprise and prosumer markets which AMD wants their users to make full use of with the upcoming release of Radeon Pro Software for Enterprise. AMD Radeon VII To Get Radeon Pro Software Support Soon, Receives BIOS Update To Support UEFI Today, AMD releases their latest Radeon Pro Software Enterprise Edition 19.Q1 drivers which offer various performance enhancements and fixes. AMD has shown year over year improvements with their Radeon Pro graphics cards whether it be graphics, rendering or RealView tests. In addition to that, the new drivers come with Radeon Pro Image Boost technology which enhances the overall quality of images, offering more detailed and vivid results compared to normal images without the feature. The driver is also ready for workstation wireless VR, supporting various standalone HMDs with 6DoF tracking technology and support for various SDKs including Unreal Studio, Solidworks & eDrawings. The main highlight of the driver is the “One Driver” feature. This allows many of AMD’s consumer Radeon cards, including the recently released Radeon VII, to be compatible with the Radeon Pro software stack. Features such as commercial software support, stability, commercial application performance, standard feature set, and enterprise security features will all be available with the consumer end cards. The more workstation oriented features would, however, be kept exclusive to the Radeon Pro graphics card lineup. The Radeon VII graphics card was created for gamers and creators, enthusiasts and early adopters. Given the broader market Radeon VII is targeting, we were considering different levels of FP64 performance. We previously communicated that Radeon VII provides 0.88 TFLOPS (DP=1/16 SP). However based on customer interest and feedback we wanted to let you know that we have decided to increase double precision compute performance to 3.52 TFLOPS (DP=1/4SP). If you looked at FP64 performance in your testing, you may have seen this performance increase as the VBIOS and press drivers we shared with reviewers were pre-release test drivers that had these values already set. In addition, we have updated other numbers to reflect the achievable peak frequency in calculating Radeon VII performance as noted in the below chart. via AMD It’s impressive that the Radeon VII is getting some if not full Radeon Pro Software support. It comes with a lot of FP64 (Double Precision Floating Point Operations) performance rated at 3.5 TFLOPs. It was confirmed by AMD that due to the broad market nature of the Radeon VII graphics card, they decided to increases the double precision performance to 1/4 SP compared to 1/16 SP of before. Fixed Issues Some color corruption seen in Adobe Premiere Pro with 10 bit pixel format has been fixed. Issues experienced with launching Radeon Pro Settings after driver install have been fixed. Issues regarding corrupt flashing corruption with Adobe Photoshop have been fixed. Issues observed with video playback with 10 bit pixel format have been fixed. No AMD graphics driver is installed” Error Pop on Switching from Gaming Mode to Professional Mode has been fixed. Known Issues Applications using DOPP may experience some issues with Display Overlap enabled. Some rendering issues may be observed in a multi-display scenario with VMware while hot plugging displays. Users may encounter issues when creating compute intensive explosions with previous generation AMD FirePro products in Houdini. Feature Support Information Driver Options is available on Microsoft Windows 10. Always update to the latest gaming drivers for the best user experience. This feature is not available with multi-GPU configurations nor with Radeon Pro Duo (“Polaris”). This is not available for mobile platforms. Multi-GPU Eyefinity Pro on Microsoft Windows 10 only supported on Radeon Pro WX 7100. Framelock/Genlock: In multiple platform configurations where more than one S400 Sync Module is in use, 4K resolutions at 60Hz and greater are not supported. Fan Control is available for changing fan speeds across different GPUs under the Global Tuning tab. Workstation Xconnect with Radeon ProRender is now supported which will allow selected applications to use both internal and external dGPUs for acceleration.e. In other news, AMD has released a new BIOS update for the Radeon VII that comes with UEFI support. The BIOS was released soon after media reported that AMD Radeon VII has no UEFI support and as such, couldn’t prompt a secure boot, leading to slower boot from a cold state. AMD’s UEFI support for the Radeon VII would be added through a one-click BIOS update that would be available on their official driver page soon.
  13. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles revealed that it paid a $77 million civil penalty to the U.S. government in 2018 for missing Corporate Average Fuel Economy, or CAFE, targets in 2016, Bloomberg reports. The $77 million fine was the largest imposed on a single automaker in at least five years, Bloomberg notes, citing NHTSA data. FCA was also the only automaker to pay a fine for the 2016 model year. The current rules, which allow automakers to accrue credits and buy credits from other automakers, were instituted in 2012 and mandate car companies to a reach fleet-wide fuel efficiency level greater than 50 mpg by 2025 -- nearly double the level in 2012. A number of automakers have lobbied the Trump administration to revise fuel economy targets in light of trends in the automotive market that favor larger vehicles. The administration has responded favorably, proposing to freeze CAFE requirements at the 2020 model year level, despite efforts in the last days of the Obama administration to cement the 2025 targets. "We at FCA are committed to improving the fuel efficiency of our fleet and expanding our U.S. manufacturing footprint," FCA head of external affairs for North America Shane Karr said in a statement, according to Bloomberg. "Ultimately, both goals are better served by a CAFE program more closely aligned to the U.S. market than by requiring companies to make large compliance payments because assumptions made in 2011 turned out to be wrong." Among other issues, the fine highlights the gap between the CAFE ratings as they were expected in 2012 and the reality of the automotive market today. A boom in large SUVs and return of cheaper gasoline was not seen as a likely scenario a decade ago. Critics of the proposal to freeze CAFE targets at the 2020 levels have pointed out that fuel efficiency standards adopted by other countries are even more ambitious than the original 2025 targets enacted during the Obama administration and that a freeze at the 2020 levels risks making the U.S. a global outlier when it comes to fuel efficiency regulations. Regardless of the trajectory of CAFE requirements, it does not appear that trucks and SUVs will fall out of po[CENSORED]rity anytime soon, even as several automakers are launching the first major wave of electric vehicles. Proponents of maintaining the 2025 CAFE targets hope that, if nothing else, the fuel efficiency targets of other major countries will pull U.S. automakers in their direction even if the U.S. adopts more lax fuel efficiency targets.FCA has cited the gap between the 2012 expectations for consumer tastes by the end of the current decade and the actual consumer tastes at this time in arguing for another look at CAFE requirements.
  14. Anna Paquin isn't a fan of parents posting pictures of their children online. The Kiwi-raised actress believes it isn't fair on youngsters to have their private lives exposed and their futures lumbered with images of youthful decisions. Speaking to The Irish News, the 36-year-old said that even though she became famous after winning the Oscar for best supporting actress at just age 11, she was fortunate to have grown up without today's added pressure of having her life recorded on social media. "I got to do normal silly teenage stuff without there being photos of it absolutely everywhere. "Kids now, I feel like, photograph everything and put it all out there, and I just don't think that you're old enough for the long-term repercussions of that." Anna Paquin believes she was fortunate to have grown up in the public eye without today's added pressure of having her life recorded on social media.
  15. WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT. Heartbreaking images show young children being brought to crisis-hit hospitals resembling 'little bones wrapped in skin', by desperate parents unable to find food for their families. Eight in ten Venezuelan children in are at risk of malnutrition due to staggering hyperinflation, which has left a can of milk for newborns costing as much as 70,000 bolivar - four months minimum wage. Despite the crisis, President Nicolas Maduro is still refusing to allow humanitarian aid to enter the country, leaving thousands of children to die.
  16. The JavaScript incarnation of Windows 95 received a version bump last week, giving those trapped in the snow or stuck in the office a lunchtime of delight listening to the bleeps and bloops of yesteryear. We took a brief look at an earlier version back in August 2018 and the big news this time around is that sound works (yes, the Windows 95 shutdown sound induced a delightfully nostalgic twinge as it trumpeted). There are also a whole load of new toys in the download package to demonstrate the improvements in compatibility. The download, clocking in at nearly 280MB, throws up all manner of Windows Defender warnings before dumping the user into the familiar (for those of a certain age) Windows 95 desktop, with Minesweeper open and ready to go. The all-important question is, of course, does it work? The answer is a reserved "kind of". This is, after all, very much a "just because you could, doesn't mean you should" project. The leader, Felix Rieseberg, quite cheerfully admitted that running it as an Electron app isn't ideal, saying in answer to the obvious "should this have been a native app?" question: "Absolutely." He also suggested that virtualization would be a better bet for those seeking to run their favourite old-timey apps. However, the lure of firing up that Windows 95 desktop once again proved too much to resist. Running Doom proved a little problematic – the author recommends switching down to 640x480 and 256 colours for that proper old-school DOS feel. Alas, doing so left the emulator locked solid both in Windows 10 and macOS (it's good to know that I managed to bork the thing in a modern, cross-platform way) so I opted to leave things as they were and play the shooter in a postage stamp square on the screen. It's how I used to play it on my old Amstrad ALT-386SX "laptop" anyway. Other wanderings soon showed other limitations of the 100 per cent JavaScript implementation. While Netscape Navigator was present, getting the thing to talk to the internet was challenging (just like in the good old days) and dropping in and out of a full-screen command prompt made things get very poorly indeed. Such nitpicking is, however, churlish in light of the achievement of getting it working at all. So, Felix, we salute you. And we will play the Robotz Critical Stop sound, just for old time's sake. ® FrontPage 1.1 takes a bow, as does Netscape Navigator 2.0. Doom and Wolfenstein 3D also put in an appearance in this JavaScript tour-de-force.
  17. VIDIA’s GeForce RTX lineup completed with the GeForce RTX 2060 and NVIDIA is now moving to offer more affordable graphics cards under their GeForce GTX family. Featuring the same Turing GPU architecture, the new GeForce GTX graphics cards will exclude Ray Tracing but feature faster shading performance through the enhanced GPU design while utilizing the 12nm process node. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Custom Designs, Specifications Leak Out As Card Gets Listed Online By Retailers Update (11/02/2019): While you are reading this, Videocardz has posted more images of a few more custom models coming in from EVGA and Palit. The specific model is the EVGA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti XC (Black) and the Palit GeForce GTX 1660 Ti StormX. The EVGA cards come in a triple slot design with a seriously beefy heatsink and single fan cooler while the Palit variant comes in a dual-slot single fan design. The cards are said to launch officially of 22nd of February around the price points I previously mentioned below. The custom models are likely to cost a bit extra while giving you higher factory overclocks The latest leaks come from Videocardz who have not only managed to track some online listings but also got pictures of the first packaging of a custom design from an APAC AIB (Add-in-board) partner. The card in question is the GALAX GeForce GTX 1660 Ti which is a custom model offering dual fan cooler and OC capabilities. The card is mentioned to feature 6 GB GDDR6 VRAM, DirectX 12 support, ANSEL support and also has “Turing Shaders” which pretty much confirms that these cards will utilize the existing Turing GPU architecture.v

  19. You'll rarely see a Ford F-450 in the front of a showroom. A Chevrolet Silverado HD or Ram 3500 won't get a high-profile celebrity endorsement. But the heavy-duty pickups are ubiquitous at construction sites and in commercial fleets. They haul concrete, plow snow and rake in major profits. Ford says its commercial vehicle business — which also includes its Transit and Transit Connect vans — earned $10 billion in 2017 on $72 billion in revenue, for a profit margin of 14 percent. If it were a standalone company, it would be a Fortune 40 business bigger than Procter & Gamble. The big bucks spent in the heavy-duty segment have created a heavyweight brawl as the Detroit 3 race to gain a competitive edge by boosting their trucks' capabilities and adding technology once reserved for luxury brands. 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500-HD High Country Ford, the dominant player, showed a freshened Super Duty at the Chicago Auto Show that features advanced driver-assistance technology and new powertrains it claims will make the model its most powerful. GM, eager to eat into Ford's lead, is adding trims and options to its redesigned Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD lineups. And Fiat Chrysler Automobiles promised 1,000 pound-feet of torque along with lush interiors on its redesigned Ram 2500 and 3500 HD trucks that debuted at last month's Detroit auto show. “They don’t get as many headlines, but they’re really strong in terms of growth, in terms of market share, in terms of revenue generation and, most importantly, in terms of profitability.” Kumar Galhotra, Ford Motor Co. president of North America "These are kind of the unsung heroes of our portfolio," Kumar Galhotra, Ford's president of North America, said during a media briefing on the freshened Super Duty. "They don't get as many headlines, but they're really strong in terms of growth, in terms of market share, in terms of revenue generation and, most importantly, in terms of profitability." Super power Ford's Super Duty pickups — which include the F-250, F-350 and F-450 — have been steadily updated since their introduction in 1999. CONTENT FROM ZF Transform Cars Into Mobile Living Spaces: New Opportunities for Occupant Safety The launch of automated vehicle functions is transforming the way in which cars are designed and marketed and coincides with the introduction of electric drivetrains. Together, these technological step-changes will alter vehicle architectures in ways that will change the way people can use interiors. READ MORE The freshened 2020 model will debut the third-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel alongside a new 7.3-liter V-8 engine and updated 6.2-liter V-8. A new 10-speed transmission, which replaces a six-speed, is better for towing, Ford said, adding that the Super Duty will be the only vehicle in the segment to offer live-drive power takeoff, which allows the operator to engage snowplows and other equipment while driving. Although executives declined to offer specific figures, they said the new powertrains will improve power, payload and towing capability, critical stats for the companies that most use the brawny pickups. In the last 10 years, Ford's maximum towing capability has jumped roughly 10,000 pounds, a spokesman said. The 2019 F-450 can tow up to 35,000 pounds with its diesel engine. Ford would not get into specifics on the 2020 Super Duty, saying only that the rating would increase. Towing battle Rivals are just catching up to Ford's towing figure. GM's redesigned heavy-duty pickups, when equipped with an optional 6.6-liter diesel V-8 rated at 445 hp and 910 pound-feet of torque, will be able to tow up to 35,500 pounds — an increase of more than 50 percent from the outgoing models. The redesigned Ram, meanwhile, can tow up to 35,100 pounds. GM's heavy-duty pickups will offer a 6.6-liter gasoline V-8 with direct injection producing 401 hp and 464 pound-feet of torque. That's 11 percent more horsepower and a 22 percent increase in peak torque, resulting in 18 percent more towing capability — 17,400 pounds — according to GM. It replaces a 6.0-liter gasoline V-8 that delivered 360 hp and 380 pound-feet of torque. The Silverado models, when they arrive in showrooms midyear, will be available in five trim levels, including the loaded-up LTZ and High Country versions, across 22 cab, bed, chassis and driveline configurations. The Sierra HD lineup includes the high-end Denali and the AT4 version targeting off-roaders. Both vehicles will be offered in dual-rear-wheel and single-rear-wheel configurations. 2019 Ram Power Wagon Ram, meanwhile, is hanging its hat on its four-digit torque figure. The 1,000 pound-feet for the Ram 3500's new 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel engine is a milestone for the segment that bests GM's upcoming 910 pound-feet. Although Ford has not revealed the 2020 model's torque rating, Ram for the moment edges Ford's outgoing Power Stroke diesel V-8, which has a torque rating of 935 pound-feet. Technology updates In addition to capability, technology enhancements and interior improvements have made Detroit's heavy-duty pickups nearly as luxurious as some premium brands — and nearly as pricey. The trend began in the early 2000s when Ford added a leather-laced King Ranch trim to the Super Duty lineup. Ram has followed suit, adding ample leather and wood to its latest models, as well as a 12-inch touch screen option. Ford's newest Super Duty pickups will come with an optional pro-trailer backup assist feature that is used on the smaller F-150. The class-exclusive feature lets drivers steer a trailer via a reverse camera that can handle all styles, including fifth wheels and goosenecks. They also get lane-keep assist, emergency braking with pedestrian detection and blind-spot monitoring technology. The features are standard on XLT and higher trims and were designed specifically for vehicles meant to haul heavy loads. Ford also added new drive modes, including Eco, Slippery and Sand/Mud. The trucks come with an embedded 4G LTE modem and Wi-Fi. "Driver assistance technology is probably more relevant to our commercial customers than anyone else," said Mike Pruitt, Super Duty's chief engineer. "When your truck is your livelihood, its not just yourself you're protecting, it's your assets." Vince Bond Jr. and Michael Wayland contributed to this report. v
  20. British arts engineering company says it has created the world's first AI robot capable of DRAWING people who pose for it. The humanoid called Ai-Da can sketch subjects using a microchip in her eye and a pencil in her robotic hand - coordinated by AI processes and algorithms. Ai-Da's ability as a life-like robot to draw and paint ultra-realistic portraits from sight has never been achieved before, according to the designers in Cornwall. It is the brainchild of art impresario and galleries Aidan Meller.v Named after Ada Lovelace , the first female computer programmer in the world, Ai-Da the robot has been designed and built by Cornish robotics company Engineered Arts who make robots for communication and entertainment. In April 2018, Engineered Arts created an ultra-realistic robot to promote the Westworld TV show. Mr Meller said: "Pioneering a new AI art movement, we are excited to present Ai-Da, the first professional humanoid artist, who creates her own art, as well as being a performance artist. "As an AI robot, her artwork uses AI processes and algorithms. "The work engages us to think about AI and technological uses and abuses in the world today."
