  1. In the mid-90s, it became clear that certain groups needed guidance and someone who would emphasize their importance. That crowd was software developers, and the man who later yelled, “Developers, developers!” was Steve Ballmer. Now and many years before, developers are leading the industry that serves all of us. I don’t believe that a specific conference could make an instant impact, but it worked out that he wanted to highlight them or direct them differently, and now from this distance, that intentionally shows the managerial aim.Maybe they didn’t go at the specific platform that Steve Balmer wanted them to, but he still made some impact. Maybe his shouts are taken out of context, but he empowered developers. Do developers still deserve someone screaming their name? Absolutely! Are they in need of it? No, they aren’t, and there can be two reasons. 1. The IT industry has become so mature that it speaks for itself. Of course, that means for the people who work there, which means internal speakers. If we follow the concept of Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing, the industry is in the phase between Performing and Adjourning (more on the Adjourning stage), and we will understand why there is no need for another Steve Balmer. In addition to that, current developers are mostly millennials who are mostly led by ideas, so this super-performing industry suits them perfectly. 2. The other reason that might have happened is the switch toward a pool of people who are currently essential. Software development is a complex process that requires human professionals to translate developers' language into human language to build something valuable and to stay connected with clients. From raised awareness of software developers’ value, a clear path to new professions is created. The software management professions definitely silenced the crowd mentioned above. Despite the very bright prediction, that developers will increase at a pace of 24% between 2016 and 2026, I would stick to this second angle as my perspective and try to justify the winds of change that are unavoidable and more certain that it will happen again soon. (Software) project manager isn’t a new role. The Parthenon temple was a symbol of the power, wealth and elevated culture of Athens. It was the largest and most lavish temple the Greek mainland had ever seen. Today, it is one of the most recognized buildings in the world and an enduring symbol of Ancient Greece. Someone built and implemented that idea. The Parthenon was built under the general supervision of the artist Phidias, who also had charge of the sculptural decoration. The architects Ictinus and Callicrates began their work in 447 B.C., and the building was substantially completed by 432. It is less known whether artist Phidias had knowledge of the construction site or if he had the strength to move or roll those humongous pillars. But he had all those needed perspectives and was aware of processes. The process was always present, but to detect, capture and structure them is a whole new level. Looking from a side of the software lifecycle, this is a project and in charge of it is the project manager. Simply put, that is a set of tasks completed to achieve an outcome. If the project manager has to follow specific tasks (to determine key goalposts: project scope, timeline, budget estimates, etc.), it implies that the project manager is informed about the project. That is why extensive collaboration and communication with leadership and stakeholders are regular, and while they are subject to changes of opinion, the project manager always has to be prepared to create and maintain processes for changes in the project. Therefore, using proper tools is necessary, and the ability to use proper project management tools for keeping track of tasks and schedules is a must. With these skills (regardless if we're talking about ancient Greece or the 21 century), it is easy to make sure teams are collaborating well, sticking to a schedule and staying motivated. There are numerous examples of what software development management looks like: videos, stories, images and even construction. And they are more than welcome because knowing software means having a developer mindset. And not everyone is capable of this. I am emphasizing metaphors because making something abstract—something that was someone's idea—and bringing it to life and eventually making a profit off of it is extraordinary. How did this come so far? Well, from the beginning of programming, developers were cultivating “the Zen of coding,” which refers to calmness and the possibility to break a problem into the smallest steps possible and then methodically go through scripts line by line to root out the bug. Most importantly, they can't give up until it's done. Investigative approaches and solving complex problems are an upgrade of the knowledge of a full stack. Therefore, the software project manager needs an intuitive mind to assess, which will turn out to be the best link for working with a development team. From my point of view, as someone who identifies with a crowd of developers, managing, nurturing and placing that precious thing that we are developing is a work of gold. Those professionals are multiscale personas that no future generation would be ashamed of. Generation-Z is just around the corner, learning every new skill for predicting their future. They are eager to see what will happen and can learn from our mistakes. That’s why we have to work harder and try not to be afraid of failing. 2. In a new video(opens in new tab) on its YouTube channel, Intel has shared fresh benchmarks of the chipmaker's upcoming Arc A750 Limited Edition graphics card. According to Intel's 1080p and 1440p results, the Arc A750's performance is on the same level as Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3060, one of the best graphics cards. The cumulative results claim that the Arc A750 delivered up to 3% higher performance than the GeForce RTX 3060 at 1080p and up to 5% in 1440p across 43 DirectX 12 titles. The Arc A750 performed slightly faster than the GeForce RTX 3060 in games that use the Vulkan API as well. Intel recorded up to a 4% performance delta at 1080p and 5% in 1440p in favor of the Arc A750. Intel hasn't officially revealed the specifications for the Arc A750. However, the graphics card will likely come with 24 Xe cores, 3,072 shaders, and 12GB of GDDR6 memory across a 192-bit interface. In addition, the boost clock speed probably hovers around the 2,300 MHz mark. Meanwhile, Intel used EVGA's GeForce RTX 3060 XC Gaming for comparison, one of the faster custom GeForce RTX 3060 on the market, flaunting a 1,882 MHz boost clock.Intel benchmarked the Arc A750 and GeForce RTX 3060 identical systems powered by the Core i9-12900K, the current Alder Lake flagship. The testbeds also had 32GB of (2x16GB) Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB DDR5-5200 C38 downlocked to 4,800 MHz memory, MP600 Pro XT 4TB SSD. Intel used Windows 11 and the balance power plan for the tests. One thing to note is that the Arc A750 was on Intel's engineering driver, whereas the GeForce RTX 3060 used the GeForce 516.59 WHQL driver. Arc Alchemist's drivers are still a work in process, so that could be holding the Arc A750 back in the gaming benchmarks. Intel has admitted that Arc underperforms in older APIs, so the company only used DirectX 12 and Vulkan titles.Intel still has a lot of time to get its driver act together. The company hasn't committed to a specific timeframe for desktop Arc Alchemist's launch. However, the chipmaker stated in a recent blog post(opens in new tab), "Intel Arc GPUs are scheduled for release later this year." 3. Sony has launched a new section of the PlayStation website, this time dedicated to PlayStation games on PC. While this isn’t a surprise given the impending release of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered this week and more to come later this year, some of the wording on the website has players suspecting PSN account integration may be coming soon. PlayStation games on PC don’t need a PSN account… yet The new PlayStation games for PC section of the website lists all of the available games, such as God of War, Days Gone, and Horizon Zero Dawn, as well as the titles already announced for release this year. As spotted by Twitter user Alejandro LL. (thanks ResetEra), there’s also an FAQ section and one of the questions it answers is whether players need a PSN account to play PlayStation games on PC. The answer was: “No, you currently do not need a PSN account to enjoy PlayStation Studios games on PC,” and it’s the word “currently” that is confusing some players. The wording seems to imply that the requirement for a PSN account to play PlayStation games on PC might change in the future. Some are hoping that this would mean players could earn trophies for playing games like Spider-Man on PC rather than Steam achievements, as well as being able to communicate with their PSN friends while playing the game. Cross-play and cross-save progression are other features players are desiring, although the former will only really be applicable if Sony brings multiplayer titles to PC. Others are wondering whether this could mean Sony is working on their own PC game launcher, although this seems more unlikely. Whatever Sony may have planned, we’re probably not going to find out what it is for a little while yet. In other news, Sony has allegedly paid developers “blocking rights” to prevent their games from being included in Xbox Game Pass. Elsewhere, four more cast members have been revealed for The Last of Us on HBO. 12. Starfield Reddit has become a slightly arid place, as fans pick through scant rumours, details, and footage from the first gameplay trailer trying to find clues about Bethesda’s upcoming space RPG. They say if you deprive a society of just three meals, it will collapse. Perhaps it is also true that if you withhold news from a gaming subreddit, it will inevitably start debating sex.“We see this in, like, literally every big AAA RPG nowadays,” writes one Starfield fan, “from Mass Effect, Dragon Age to Witcher. Even that Terminator game has sexy scenes in it for you to choose. Yet I always found it funny that Bethesda continued to keep their games so PG-rated even until this day.” If you check out our guides to Starfield skills and Starfield traits, there are dozens of ways to customise your own, intrepid space person, though the possibility of ‘romance’, and how certain characteristics might affect that, has yet to be officially revealed. If we look over the Starfield mods that we want to see, admittedly, we haven’t included any that are related to – how should we say – going supernova, but fans might argue that some of the best Skyrim mods and best Fallout 4 mods are created specifically with that in mind. Nevertheless, that’s a far cry from Bethesda implementing zero gravity love as an official feature, and some Starfield fans are less than impressed with that possibility. “The only one that ever looked right was Liara in the first Mass Effect game,” explains one Starfield Redditor. “That blew my mind. Never seen something like that in a game. But every other game? Nope. Stiff, no emotion, no feeling.” “You claim it makes sense from a marketing standpoint,” argues another Starfield fan, “but it absolutely does not. Starfield will sell with no issue whether it has sex in it or not. The majority of gamers aren’t lonely people who rely on pixels to get any sort of gratification, that’s just an outdated stereotype.” Other commenters, however, are more open to the idea of Starfield sex, suggesting possible ways that it might be illustrated and deployed by Bethesda’s team of animators.“They should be like the ones in Fable 2,” says one Starfield Redditor, “fade to black and cheesy dialogue.” “I think the closest you’ll get,” replies another, “are the docking sequences when boarding another ship.” Whether or not the game will feature scenes of a passionate comportment, we are still waiting for news on the Starfield release date. In the meantime, we do, however, have a good idea about the RPG’s various locations, so be sure to check out our guides to Neon City and New Atlantis, two places where it’s possible you will find the romantic partner of your subreddit dreams.
