Banners erected in South Jakarta protesting the United States' decision to bar Indonesian Armed Forcers (TNI) Commander Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo to fly to the country were taken down on Monday. South Jakarta Public Order Agency head Ujang Hermawan was quoted as saying that the banners were taken down on the grounds that they were provocative. https://twitter.com/infohargasaham/status/922336039749816320/photo/1 A white banner erected at the Dukuh Atas pedestrian bridge on Jl. Sudirman read: “Kick out US Ambassador from the homeland!” In South Kemang, another banner read: “Send home US citizens from Indonesia!” Ujang told kompas.com on Monday, “Our officers have taken down the two banners. I will communicate with the Police [to investigate them].” He added that he had instructed his subordinates to check other locations in the municipality for similar banners. Gatot and his wife, Enny Trimurti, were set to fly on Saturday to Washington, DC for a conference. The TNI commander had all necessary travel documents, including a US visa and an invitation from the US Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, who had asked him to attend the Chiefs of Defense Conference on Countering Violent Extremist Organizations (VEOs) on Oct. 23-24. Gatot was already at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport when an Emirates airline official informed him that the US Customs and Border Protection Agency had barred him and his delegation from boarding the US-bound flight. The ban has reportedly been revoked. (fac)

If you want to know why people trust the Consumer Reports auto team so much, just take a minute exploring how the nonprofit agency works. Unlike basically every other reviewer, the organization: Buys the cars they test (some $2.1 million spent in 2017) Accepts no advertising (donation and memberships only) Has testers run the cars through 50 evaluations over several thousand miles While you shop for the highest rated used cars, you will have a hard time finding a more unbiased perspective. From our point of view, the nonprofit has no match when it comes to reliability ratings. In the latest round of surveys and road tests, Consumer Reports identified a few dozen cars, trucks, and SUVs that are worth buying yet cost less than $20,000 pre-owned. Here are 25 used models that got the green light for consumers in 2017. 1. Buick Encore For several years running, the Buick Encore small crossover has posted strong reliability ratings and solid owner satisfaction scores in Consumer Reports surveys. In 2017, it ranked third among entry-level luxury SUVs. New models can run consumers up to $30,000, but for a better deal look to a 2014 Encore. This edition scored above average in the key testing areas and sells for around $16,000 in front-wheel drive configuration. All-wheel drive editions push closer to $20,000.

There may be no greater symbol of the commercialization of the holidays than the annual Christmas Book from Neiman Marcus, which contains, among other things, a collection of particularly extravagant items that are too rare—or too big—to be sold at Neiman’s retail stores. In the past, such Fantasy Gifts have included a Boeing Business Jet, a submarine, a 25-carat Nam diamond, a walk-on role on a Broadway show, even a live Black Angus bull, with accompanying barbecue. And, of course, every year in recent memory, the catalog has featured at least one limited-production automobile, usually pimped out especially for Neiman Marcus, including seven 2008 Hennessey Venom “700NM” Viper, 100 custom 2015 Ford Mustang GT convertibles with 700-hp supercharged Coyote V8s, and 10 of the first Aston Martin Vanquish Volantes to appear in the United States for the 2014 model year. And for 2017, for the first time ever, a Rolls-Royce—or to be accurate, two Rolls-Royces—will be featured in the Fantasy Gift section, sold individually or proffered as pair of Yours & Mine 2017 Rolls-Royce Dawn drophead coupes. With custom fitments rendered by Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke division as directed by the fashion experts at Neiman Marcus, each of the two Dawns that will appear in this posh holiday catalog was inspired by a posh holiday destination. The Coniston Blue “Lago di Como” Dawn is named after northern Italy’s lovely Lake Como, only being a Rolls, it uses the lake’s far sexier-sounding Italian name. Inside, Selby Grey and black leather covers nearly every surface that’s not brushed metal, glass, or a button, and while its distinct paucity of wood trim is unusual for a Rolls, that’s somewhat justifiable for something named after a lake. The orange “Saint-Tropez Dawn” features an interior awash in light Seashell, Mandarin, and Dark Spice leather with Canadel open-pore wood veneers. Both models feature contrasting silver “bonnets” and silver folding fabric tops. While the Bespoke division’s modifications made to this duo of Dawns are mostly cosmetic, Fantasy Gift pricing still applies, with each Yours & Mine Dawn costing roughly a hundred grand more than the 2017 Dawn’s $343,875 base price. The Lago di Como Dawn is priced at $442,375 while the Saint-Tropez Dawn will set customers back $448,500. Rolls-Royce says that the cars may be further tailored by the customer once their orders are taken, but to do so would surely eat into what little change might be coming to them from their million-dollar bill with still so many other fantasy gifts one might indulge in, such as an $8000 doll house and a $35,000 helicopter tour and photo expedition over Malibu Beach with famed shooter Gray Malin. The more philanthropically inclined may prefer to make the $50,000 outlay for the construction of two water wells in communities in need, with the specific location to be determined by the buyer, preferably one with the good sense not to visit whilst at the helm of his or her new convertible Rolls-Royce.

WASHINGTON, U.S. - The feud between Democratic congresswoman Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson and U.S. President Donald Trump over Trump’s alleged statement to the widow of a fallen soldier during a condolence call has escalated. After Trump and his representatives denied the story - the congresswoman revealed that during his condolence phone call to the widow of a U.S. serviceman, Army Sgt. La David Johnson, who killed in an ambush in Niger, Trump spoke about the fallen soldier and told his widow, “He knew what he signed up for, but I guess it still hurt." Johnson was among the four U.S. soldiers killed by enemy fire in the ambush on October 4. Wilson said, “Basically, he (Trump) said, 'Well, I guess he knew what he signed up for, but I guess it still hurt.’ That's what he said. You know... that is something that you can say in a conversation, but you shouldn't say that to a grieving widow. Everyone knows when you go to war you could possibly not come back alive, but you don't remind a grieving widow of that. That is so insensitive. So insensitive." The President however denied Wilson's account of the condolence call, in both a tweet and a statement at the White House, creating a fresh political controversy over his response to the Niger attack. Trump told reporters, “I didn't say what that congresswoman said. Didn't say it at all. She knows it. And she now is not saying it. I did not say what she said." Referring to Wilson, the President added, "I'd like her to make the statement again because I did not say what she said." Wilson responded to Trump’s remarks on Twitter minutes later and said she still stood by her account, claiming, "Mr. Trump is crazy.” Earlier this week, Trump falsely claimed that former President Barack Obama didn't call families of fallen service members, later suggesting that reporters contact his chief of staff, John Kelly, whose son was killed in Afghanistan, to ask if Obama reached out to him. He said, “As far as other presidents, I don't know, you could ask Gen. Kelly, did he get a call from Obama? I don't know what Obama's policy was.” A day later, White House chief of staff, John Kelly delivered an emotional, personal defense of President Trump’s call and said he was "stunned" by what the Democratic congresswoman told reporters. Kelly, a retired Marine general whose son Second Lt. Robert Kelly was slain in battle in 2010, said he advised Trump on what to say before he called the families of the four fallen soldiers. He said he encouraged Trump to offer similar words that Gen. Joseph Dunford offered to Kelly when his own son was killed in Afghanistan. Kelly said, ”He was doing exactly what he wanted to do when he was killed. He knew what he was getting into by joining that 1%. He knew what the possibilities were because we were at war. And when he died he was surrounded by the best men on this earth, his friends. That's what the President tried to say to the four families the other day.” He added, “I was stunned when I came to work yesterday, and brokenhearted, when I saw what a member of Congress was doing. What she was saying, what she was doing on TV. The only thing I could do to collect my thoughts was to go walk among the finest men or women on this earth.” Late on Thursday, Trump tweeted, “The fake news is going crazy with wacky congresswoman Wilson [Democrat] who was secretly on a very personal call and gave a total lie on content.” Kelly too suggested Wilson eavesdropped on a highly sensitive call. Wilson meanwhile, a close friend of the Johnson family, pointed out she was in the car when the widow, Myeshia Johnson received Trump’s call.” The Congresswoman said, “I wasn’t listening in. Please don’t characterize it as that.” Wilson said Trump’s comments were “not a good message to say to anyone who has lost a child at war.” Adding, “You don’t sign up because you think you’re going to die. You sign up to serve your country. There’s nothing to misinterpret. He said what he said. I just don’t agree with it. I just don’t agree with that’s what you should say to grieving families.” In his press statement, Kelly Kelly also attacked Wilson for allegedly taking credit for securing funding from Barack Obama for an FBI field office, at a 2015 ceremony which he also attended. Wilson however clarified that she was not a member of Congress in 2009 when the funding mentioned by Kelly was secured. She said her role was in having the building dedicated to two FBI agents who were killed in a 1986 shootout in Miami. Wilson said of Kelly’s characterization, “That’s a lie. How dare he?” She added, “I feel sorry for General Kelly. He has my sympathy for the loss of his son. But he can’t just go on TV and lie on me.” Later on Friday, the SunSentinel published a video of Wilson’s remarks at the ceremony supporting the congresswoman’s account. The current White House chief of staff said, “We were stunned, stunned that she’d done it. Even for someone that is that empty a barrel, we were stunned.” On Friday, despite the video evidence proving the contrary, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders sidestepped questions about the validity of chief of staff John Kelly's claim that Wilson had bragged about securing funds for an FBI field office in 2015. Sanders said during Friday's White House press briefing, “[Kelly] said there was a lot of grandstanding. He was stunned she had taken that opportunity to make it about herself." When pressed as to whether Kelly could elaborate further, Sanders said he "addressed that pretty thoroughly yesterday." The reporter then noted that the money was secured before Wilson was in Congress, which prompted Sanders to invoke Kelly's military career. She argued, “If you want to go after General Kelly that's up to you but I think that if you want to get into a debate with a four-star Marine general, I think that's something highly inappropriate.”

WASHINGTON, U.S. - In yet another rant against the country’s media, U.S. President Donald Trump has slammed the ‘Fake Media’ for ignoring stories on an investigation involving the Russia uranium deal. The bombshell report emerged in The Hill on Wednesday and claimed that the FBI had uncovered a bribery scandal and had investigated officials in the Russian nuclear industry and the Clintons. The report said that FBI had proof that these officials were engaged in bribery, kickbacks and other dirty tactics to expand Moscow’s atomic energy footprint in the U.S. but that the Obama administration approved the uranium deal benefiting Moscow anyway. On Thursday morning, Trump tweeted, "Uranium deal to Russia, with Clinton help and Obama Administration knowledge, is the biggest story that Fake Media doesn't want to follow!" He also tweeted a quote from "Fox & Friends" minutes later, and said that Russia "sent millions to Clinton Foundation." On Wednesday, The Hill published a report by John Solomon and Alison Spann claiming that the FBI investigated the case before the Hillary Clinton-led State Department and Obama administration approved a 2010 deal giving Russia control of much of the U.S.’s uranium. Later in the day, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Chuck Grassley vowed at a public hearing to “get to the bottom of this issue,” saying the committee had opened a fresh inquiry into the matter. A report later stated that Grassley is seeking permission to interview the FBI informant who helped agents uncover the corruption. His lawyer Victoria Toensing was quoted in the report as saying that the informant was prevented from disclosing certain information to the courts and Congress after signing a non-disclosure statement and was threatened by Justice officials when he tried to reveal some information in a lawsuit last year. The expose comes at a time when several ongoing investigations are already on into Trump's own dealings with Russia. Currently, the FBI's special counsel, Robert Mueller, as well as the House and Senate intelligence committees are examining Russian interference in the 2016 election and whether any Trump associates played a role - leading to a constant string of news reports. Last year, on his campaign trail, Trump had claimed that the deal for uranium (an element needed for both nuclear power and weapons), had enriched the Clinton family because people with interest in the deal had donated to the Clintons' charity, the Clinton Foundation. However, Clinton has said that she was not personally involved in vetting the deal. The report in The Hill quoted a person who worked on the case as saying, "The Russians were compromising American contractors in the nuclear industry with kickbacks and extortion threats, all of which raised legitimate national security concerns. And none of that evidence got aired before the Obama administration made those decisions." Meanwhile, another report cited an American businessman, Solomon and Spann as saying that the Obama administration blocked him from testifying to Congress about "conversations and transactions he witnessed related to the Russian nuclear industry's efforts to win favor with Bill and Hillary Clinton and influence Obama administration decisions." It was further revealed that the investigation was conducted under the leadership of Mueller, who was then the director of the FBI. Meanwhile, on Thursday, Trump took another Twitter dig at the firm behind the controversial anti-Trump dossier, after Fusion GPS officials took the Fifth during an appearance on Capitol Hill on Wednesday. He said, “Workers of firm involved with the discredited and Fake Dossier take the 5th. Who paid for it, Russia, the FBI or the Dems (or all)?”

James Corden has apologised after making jokes about the Harvey Weinstein scandal at a charity event on Saturday night. The controversy continues to unfold by the hour as more and more members of the film industry speak out about the sexual abuse allegations made against the Hollywood producer. But, while hosting the AmfAR Gala in Los Angeles, Corden made several jokes about the producer that did not seem to go down too well in the room. "This is a beautiful room," Corden said at the Beverly Hills estate of investor and philanthropist Ron Burkle. "It’s a beautiful night here in LA. çtonight up to his hotel to give him a massage." Met by a mixture of groans and the odd laugh, he swiftly continued with, "I don't know if that groan is because you like that joke or you don't like that joke but if you don't like that joke you should probably leave now." He was not deterred by the lukewarm reception of his audience, however, and carried on. "It has been weird this week, though, watching Harvey Weinstein in hot water. Ask any of the women who watched him take a bath. Harvey Weinstein wanted to come tonight, but he’ll settle for whatever potted plant is closest." The monologue was shared on Twitter by a Hollywood Reporter journalist but official video footage of the event has not been released. The jokes have prompted criticism on social media, with many feeling that they were inappropriate. The comedian reacted to the criticism on Twitter on Sunday. "To be clear, sexual assault is no laughing matter. I was not trying to make light of Harvey’s inexcusable behavior, but to shame him, the abuser, not his victims. I am truly sorry for anyone offended, that was never my intention." This is also not the only time that Corden has been accused of acting in poor taste recently. Last month he admitted to being "disappointed" with himself after he was photographed kissing the cheek of former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer at the Emmy Awards. Among the many celebrities attending the gala, which was held to raise money for AIDS research, were Tom Hanks, Chris Martin, Sean Penn, Fergie, Melanie Griffith, Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson. During the event, Julia Roberts was presented with amfAR's Award of Courage by Hanks and, in a surprise appearance, Chris Martin performed a series of songs in tribute to the actress and her contributions to the fight against AIDS. "I'm here because I love Julia and I'm less keen on AIDS," said Martin when he arrived on stage to perform a set that included the songs Pretty Woman and the self-penned Smile, written about Roberts's famous wide grin and which included such lyrics as "That Julia Roberts smile / it stretches for half a mile / it never goes out of style".

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica: Oil and gas producers pulled staff from offshore platforms while Alabama, Florida and Mississippi declared states of emergency as Tropical Storm Nate twisted towards the U.S. Gulf Coast on Friday after killing at least 25 people in Central America. Nate is set to become a Category 1 hurricane, the weakest on a five-category scale used by meteorologists, by the time it hits the U.S. central Gulf Coast on Saturday night or Sunday. The storm is expected to brush by the edge of Mexico's Yucatan peninsula, home to beach resorts such as Cancun and Playa del Carmen, before heading into the Gulf of Mexico, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami. Nate was blowing maximum sustained winds of 60 miles per hour (97 kmh) and was about 80 miles (123 km) east of the Mexican resort island of Cozumel on Friday afternoon, the NHC said. In the United States, a state of emergency was declared for 29 Florida counties and states near Nate's path - Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi - as well as the city of New Orleans, devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu on Friday ordered a mandatory evacuation of some areas outside of the city's levee system, as well as a mandatory curfew as Nate approached. The NHC issued a hurricane watch from Grand Isle, Louisiana to the Alabama/Florida border. "By Saturday noon you should be in your safe place," Alabama Governor Kay Ivey told a news conference. "This is a fast-moving storm and we must begin preparing now." On Friday afternoon, Nate was moving north-northwest at 21 miles per hour (34 kmh), a fast pace which if maintained could mean the storm does less damage when it hits land. CENTRAL AMERICA DEATHS The storm doused Central America with heavy rains on Thursday, killing at least 12 people in Nicaragua, nine in Costa Rica, two in Honduras and two in El Salvador, local authorities said. Thousands were forced to evacuate their homes and Costa Rica's government declared a state of emergency. Costa Rican President Luis Guillermo Solis urged residents to remain vigilant, noting rains would likely resume. In Honduras, residents wondered whether they would have to flee. Norma Chavez and her two children anxiously watched a river rise outside their home in Tegucigalpa, the capital. "We are worried that it will grow more and carry away the house," said Chavez, 45. Through Monday, Nate is expected to produce 2-4 inches (5 to 10 cm) more rain in parts of El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua, two to four inches (5 to 10 cm) in eastern Yucatan and western Cuba and three to six inches (8 to 15 inches) in the U.S. central Gulf Coast. About 71 percent of U.S. Gulf of Mexico oil production and 53 percent of natural gas output is offline ahead of Nate's arrival, the U.S. Department of the Interior's Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) said on Friday. Oil companies have evacuated staff from 66 platforms and five drilling rigs, it said. Oil production equalling 1.24 million barrels of crude per day is offline, according to BSEE.

The total package includes $4.9 billion for a disaster relief loan account, $16 billion to address national flood insurance program debt and $576.5 million for wildfire recovery efforts. It also provided $1.27 billion for disaster food assistance for Puerto Rico. As the wildfires, that are expected to become the costliest in California history, rage on in the state’s wine country, the size of the bill too has grown. Even weeks after Hurricane Maria battered the island, over 80 percent of Puerto Rico still remains without power. Meanwhile, major cities in Texas, Florida and other gulf states continue rebuilding efforts following Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. In the months to come, Congress is likely to approve billions of dollars in additional disaster aid. On Thursday, Republicans who voted against the bill were protesting the increasing fiscal effects of disaster relief legislation. Rep. Mark Walker (R-N.C.), the head of the Republican Study Committee, has said that supplemental disaster relief should be offset with spending cuts. He said, “It is only a matter of time before the U.S. faces the next catastrophe. But for some reason, the government does not budget with this in mind. Instead, Congress waits for a crisis to happen and then hurries to pass an aid package afterward.” Rep. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) meanwhile said the debts would add up regardless of how good the cause of disaster relief was. He added, “If we don’t do something to begin to offset some of this, I think that in a matter of months or a matter of years people are going to look back at this Congress and say, ‘what were they thinking?’” Rep. David Schweikert (R-Ariz.), member of Sanford's fellow House Freedom Caucus has said that bailing out the Flood Insurance program without reforms amounted to throwing good money after bad. He said, “Emergency is emergency, but there are programs we’re going to have to deal [with], bite the bullet, and I think flood insurance is one of them, where you also have a moral hazard in its current design.” He added that federally-backed flood insurance results in payouts for people to rebuild property in flood-prone areas, only to have to file more claims when disaster strikes again. He said, “At a certain point, say you’re not going to keep building the same property. You’ve got to have an honest conversation. The subsidizing of putting homes in harm’s way, it’s not really great for society."
