  1. There has long been a debate as to whether wired or wireless mice are better. Therefore, in this post, we will answer this question. Ratón con cable vs ratón sin cable: ¿cuál es mejor? One of the most important peripherals and one that can totally improve the experience of using the computer is the mouse, since it allows you to move between the different interfaces of the operating system. Although, obviously, it is not exempt from flaws, since the mouse can present problems. But beyond that, there has always been a debate among users, who cannot decide whether a cable or wireless one is better. The eternal debate between wired and wireless mice seems to be endless, as some users enjoy the mobility offered by wireless models, while others prefer the autonomy of wired ones. Although for practical purposes, they serve the same purpose and you can optimize them by adjusting their movement speed. So, to try to put an end to this debate about the types of mice, we have prepared this post to tell you which is the best model, although this will not be easy. Features of wired mice To begin, we will address the characteristics of wired mice, or what is the same, their advantages and disadvantages, since they are not perfect devices. This is important to know before making a decision. Although it is impossible to deny that, despite the fact that we are in the age of everything wireless, wired mice are still widely used. This is positive, as it demonstrates its quality and, above all, reliability. Los ratones cableados nunca se quedarán sin batería ni te arruinarán una partida de juego When compared to wireless mice, one of the strongest points of the wired models is that they have a great autonomy, since they are connected at all times to the computer via the cable, they do not use a battery. In fact, as long as you have your computer or laptop on, you can also count on the mouse. This is something great, especially if you dedicate many hours of use to the computer, be it for work, leisure or play, because it will never run out of battery. This can be a deal breaker for many users. In addition to that, if you find yourself in the middle of a game, you will not suffer when your battery runs out and turns off, causing you to lose. The benefits of being connected directly to the computer This may seem silly, but many do not realize the important benefit of having this peripheral connected directly to the computer, and not to a Bluetooth module like wireless. In this sense, if at any time you have to access the computer's BIOS, for whatever reason, you should know that wireless peripherals will not work for you, but only those with cable. So if you want to navigate this interface, you must use a wired mouse. This is because the wireless models depend on the operating system to be recognized and the operating system was not loaded when entering the BIOS. You have limited use by wiring Obviously, one of the biggest problems with wired mice is that they are limited to the cable, even if it sounds logical. But this can be an indispensable factor for some users who prefer freedom of movement and scrolling at any distance, since usually with a wired mouse they are only about 80 or 120 cm long. Although this is something that has always been around, it is much more noticeable as a negative aspect now that wireless mice do away with this problem. Not to mention that if you do not take care of the USB cable and connector, it can be damaged. Features of wireless mice They have the best autonomy To begin, we must point out one of the most obvious advantages of wireless mice, such as being able to use it freely and without depending on the 80 or 120 cm that the wired model offers you. Since wireless mice work via Bluetooth, then you can use it on any surface and anywhere, within its range, but that is much more distance compared to wired models. If what you want is a model that allows you to move freely and without limiting yourself, then you can take a look at this type of wireless mouse. Autonomy is not its strongest point Wireless mice, not relying on cables, use rechargeable batteries inside to work. However, sooner or later, the autonomy will run out and you will have to put it to charge, which may not be a comfortable experience. Although it is true that these mice have improved to the point that they now offer up to 20 or 30 hours of use before charging, it can happen that it is discharged at the worst possible moment, such as when you are in the middle of a game. important. Therefore, before buying any model of wireless mouse, you must make sure of its autonomy, since, depending on this, you may have to put it to charge sooner or later. Wired or wireless mouse: which is better? A continuación, responderemos a la pregunta sobre cuál tipo de ratón es mejor Now that you know some of the strengths and weaknesses of wired and wireless mice, it's time to move on to trying to answer the question that's been debated for so long: which is better? Although it is true that this is a subjective answer, it will depend on each user and his needs, as well as his pocket, since wireless mice are usually a little more expensive than wired ones. Therefore, it is necessary that you analyze your situation and, based on that, you can make a decision. In our opinion, wireless mice are much more comfortable, as they have evolved to such an extent that they can offer even whole days of autonomy and their latency is very low, so you will not notice a delay between the movement you make and the time it takes to pointer to react. But if you can't afford one of these wireless models, don't worry, as the wired models also have many benefits, the main disadvantage being the little freedom they offer. https://www.mundodeportivo.com/urbantecno/tecnologia/raton-con-cable-vs-raton-sin-cable-cual-es-mejor
  2. he application software sector is undergoing profound and rapid change, with an inexorable shift away from on-premise software designed for traditional screen, mouse, and keyboard interfaces. Even the most conservative industries demand cloud as the default platform for new software products, while consumer applications are all mobile-first. The value was historically all in the application itself but is now driven by the integration of software. The cloud is an important model for IT resource delivery. The growth of application programming interfaces (APIs) has made sharing data easier and encouraged the development of new applications. Much of this new application development is cloud-based. A new wave of platform services, including low-code platforms, will use AI to increase operational efficiency and automate workflow controls. Advanced platforms will enable intelligent apps and improve user experience. Process automation refers to robotic process automation (RPA), in which new developer technologies help shore up various phases within the application lifecycle. RPA uses AI, low-code platforms, and software robotics to automate manual processes. Industrial IT providers will continue to invest in RPA innovation. For example, Siemens’ acquisition of Mendix in 2019 will strengthen both its new digital business unit and its RPA offering. Machine learning is a high priority for businesses everywhere. However, the market faces a skills gap. There are relatively few AI specialists, and developing a model is a time-consuming and resource-intensive process. As the market matures, enterprises will incorporate data from a variety of sources into their machine learning models. The data may reside on-premises, at the edge, in the cloud, or across multiple clouds. To overcome the skills gap, vendors are designing products specifically for people without data science skills. Vendors are offering translation services, speech-to-text, natural language generation, image recognition, and video analysis to non-AI specialists. Data will become a key differentiator. Conversational platforms employ a variety of technologies to enable human-like interactions with computer systems. Virtual personal assistants like Amazon’s Alexa or Google’s Assistant can schedule appointments, provide weather updates, and play music based on voice commands. In 2020, application platform providers will develop user interface (UI) tools to support advanced conversational platforms. These app components will include chatbots with a natural language UI. AI relies heavily upon open source (OS) technologies. Google’s machine learning framework, TensorFlow, is a prime example of this trend. Released via the Apache OS license in 2015, TensorFlow is currently available to developers across most public cloud platforms. Investment in OS AI technologies will proceed apace, particularly among vendors selling both open and proprietary technologies (e.g., Huawei released its own AI framework, MindSpore). AR allows the user to see the real world overlaid with a layer of digital content. Having come to worldwide attention in 2016 with Pokémon Go, the next two years will be pivotal for AR. Its chances of crossing over to the mass consumer and corporate markets will be determined by the richness and variety of AR content, the development of smartphone applications, and the arrival of all-in-one glasses. Apple CEO Tim Cook asserted that the iPhone is the best place for AR, but we do not expect to see Apple AR until the iPhone 12, by which time the tightly knit A-Series-iOS vertical stack will be fit for purpose and sufficient content will have been developed. During 2020, it may also become clear whether or not the 10-year, $2.6bn Magic Leap gamble has paid off. Its technology superimposes 3D computer-generated imagery over real-world objects by projecting a digital light field into the user’s eye. https://www.verdict.co.uk/application-software/

  4. Weekend PC Game Deals is where the hottest gaming deals from all over the internet are gathered into one place, every week, for your consumption. So kick back, relax, and hold on to your wallets. The Epic Games Store brought a game from the Warhammer universe as its latest freebie this week. The strategy experience Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War is free on the PC games store for an entire week. The game offers turn-based 4X strategy with a proper Warhammer twist, where diplomacy is nowhere to be found. As the Imperial Guard, Space Marines, Orks, or Necrons, you will be exploring, expanding, and exterminating all opposition for your empire. The freebie offer runs until March 23, and coming up next week is a copy of Chess Ultra and a World of Warships starter pack. If you have a passion for kart racing games, then Humble's latest bundle will be right up your alley. The Kart Club Bundle has two tiers, and the first brings along Garfield Kart: Furious Racing, Super Indie Karts, Zeepkist, Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2, Beach Buggy Racing 2, All-Star Fruit Racing, and Monster League for $10. The $20 tier only adds on one more game, that being Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway. Humble still has three other bundles running from previous weeks too, including the packed Heroines collection, as well as the Train Simulator and Bassmaster Fishing games bundles. Usually, free events calm down a little when big sales are ongoing, but not this weekend. First up is a free weekend for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II multiplayer, with access to six maps as well as one co-op raid being offered. Also having a limited-time free-to-play offer is Anno 1800, the Ubisoft developed hugely po[CENSORED]r city building and management game. The base experience is available to try out until March 23. Our highlights list is a little overwhelming from the choices but there are plenty to peruse: https://www.neowin.net/news/weekend-pc-game-deals-steam-2023-spring-sale-takes-over/
  5. sted May 28 Diablo 4 is just around the corner, and Blizzard's po[CENSORED]r collectible card game Hearthstone is celebrating with a couple of in-game events in June. A special Battlegrounds and Tavern Brawl will launch during the month, just after the launch of the next Hearthstone mini-set for traditional play. First, Diablo will return to Hearthstone Battlegrounds for a limited time, June 5-7. Diablo was first introduced in 2021 as a limited-time Battlegrounds hero. When one player selects Diablo, it makes that player a raid boss who takes on all seven other players simultaneously once every four turns, with the winners claiming specialized loot. Blizzard didn't detail any changes for this reemergence of Diablo. Plus, a special Diablo-themed Tavern Brawl boss battle is coming. This one will be unusual for Tavern Brawls as it will last for two weeks instead of just one, and your progression against the boss will be saved across each run. For your efforts you can snag a special card back. Before Diablo arrives though, it's the end of the world as we know it with the Audiopocalypse mini-set for standard Hearthstone play. The mini-set launching May 31 will add more cards to the latest expansion, Festival of Legends. Those will include new dual-class minions and spells and Remixed cards that get a shifting bonus effect in your hand. Check below for all the cards revealed so far. 6. A group of Tory MPs is calling on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to drastically cut migration, warning the failure to do so "risks eroding public trust". The New Conservatives have issued a 12-point plan to cut net migration by about 400,000 before the next election. The group of MPs recommend closing visa schemes for care workers, increasing salary thresholds, and capping refugee numbers. But critics say the proposals would have consequences for the UK economy. Mr Sunak's official spokesman said the government believes it is "striking the right balance between keeping migration as low as possible while providing staff for key areas". The UK's overall po[CENSORED]tion grew by more than 600,000 people last year, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics. The ONS said the rise was largely driven by more people from outside the EU arriving on student and work visas, and refugees fleeing conflict and persecution in Ukraine and Hong Kong. The sharp increase represents a huge political challenge for Mr Sunak and the Conservatives, who have repeatedly promised to reduce net migration since taking power in 2010. The party's 2019 manifesto committed to getting the number down, without setting a specific target, while former Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron once pledged to bring net migration below 100,000. Sunak says migration 'too high' as new record set Who is allowed to come to live in the UK? Moving target Tories keep trying to hit In a report launched on Monday, the New Conservatives say the British public "did not vote for mass migration and the social and economic harms it brings". "Without swift action to get migration under control, the Conservative Party will further erode the trust of hundreds of thousands of voters who lent the party their vote in 2019," the report says. The report was written by Tory MP Tom Hunt and backed by a group of like-minded Conservatives, including the party's deputy chairman, Lee Anderson, Miriam Cates and James Daly. At the report's launch, Mr Hunt, Ms Cates and Mr Daly insisted they were loyal to the prime minister, but felt his government could go further on cutting immigration. One of the report's main recommendations is closing temporary schemes that grant eligibility for worker visas to care workers. The report says this policy will reduce visas granted by 117,000, leading to a reduction in long-term inward migration to the UK of 82,000. Part of this proposed policy involves only allowing in skilled workers who earn £38,000 a year or more. A report by the Skills for Care charity said the number of vacancies in social care was at its highest rate on record, with 165,000 unfilled posts in 2021-22. Sam Monaghan, chief executive at Methodist Homes, said not being able to recruit carers from overseas would put more pressure on the sector. "Cutting off a key supply of care workers at a time when 500,000 people nationwide are waiting for care is not the answer," Mr Monaghan said. Mr Sunak's official spokesman said the government was not planning to remove care workers from the shortage occupation list. The government was "using the flexibility we have through our migration system to ensure we have sufficient staff in key areas" and "looking to boost the numbers of domestic care staff that are available", Downing Street said. link: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-66084962

  8. PETITION TARGET: New York Standing Committee on Environmental Conservation Lured by fake distress calls or bait, then gunned down indiscriminately with high-powered rifles by participants seeking to kill for cash or other prizes, hundreds of defenseless wild animals in New York each year are dying painful deaths without dignity — with their corpses often tossed like trash. Each year, New York is home to at least 29 wildlife killing contests, which award “prizes” to participants who kill the most animals, the heaviest animals, or the largest animals. Victims include coyotes, foxes, crows, bobcats, squirrels, rabbits and woodchucks, according to legislation that seeks to ban this brutal travesty by prohibiting any event whose objective is killing wildlife — whether for prizes or “entertainment.” The bills, A0219 and S04099, note there is no evidence that these killing contests are effective in “managing” wildlife po[CENSORED]tions — and, rather, run counter to science-based wildlife management principles. Meanwhile, wildlife killing contests are undeniably cruel — allowing participants to use unethical devices such as distress calls, lures, or bait, and leaving orphaned babies likely to die from exposure, predation, or starvation, according to the legislation. “Wildlife killing contests are a wanton waste of New York’s wildlife resources, which belong to all state residents,” the legislation states. “These organized competitions treat animals as disposable pieces in a game to win cash and prizes.” Eight other states have banned these gruesome contests, which glamorize and glorify the killing of sentient beings — and it’s time for New York to do the same. Sign our petition urging New York legislators to whole-heartedly support and quickly pass this legislation, which will save countless innocent lives while sending a strong message that killing — especially glamorized killing for people’s greed or “entertainment” — will NOT be tolerated. https://ladyfreethinker.org/sign-stop-cruel-wildlife-killing-contests-in-new-york/
  9. “Being able to watch the journey out of the cabin window, seeing France fade away and Spain come into view, you experience the travel and the journey itself as part of the trip, rather than it being a means to an end. We both really love that,” says Katie Nicholson, who recently became a digital nomad, setting sail with Brittany Ferries from the UK to Spain on a new adventure with her partner, Ciaran. “We rented out our flat and are now remote working from Spain and Italy for a few months, and doing this on and off for the rest of the year,” she says. “We got the ferry mid-April from Portsmouth to Santander. Even before we bought the car for the road trip – an old convertible Saab 93 – we planned on getting the ferry, aiming to fly less.” As more people seek out greener ways to head abroad compared with flying, demand for ferry travel is on the up. And many travellers, like Nicholson, are reaping the benefits of avoiding busy airports and cramped airline seats in favour of fresh air, good food and plenty of space to take a stroll. “It feels like you’ve started your holiday early. You don’t really relax when you’re in an airport or on a plane, whereas on the ship, it’s more like: ‘What shall we eat? What shall we watch? Shall we go and sit in the sun and read?’ – all very nice decisions to have to make,” says Nicholson, who last took a ferry on the same route with her family about 20 years ago. “We loved it. It was such a novelty for me and my sister.” Boarding the Brittany Ferries service to Santander at about 8.30pm for a departure time of 9.30pm, she describes the process as “genuinely seamless”, queueing for about 20 minutes before tickets are scanned and you are directed to your room. Once en route, the couple settled into their “newly decorated, spotless” four-berth cabin with outside view and en suite (there are dog-friendly and more spacious “deluxe” cabins also available). While the upper deck offered seating and stunning sea views, there was plenty to keep them occupied indoors too, with a complimentary selection of new films and TV shows in the cabin, as well as entertainment in the cafe-bar, including bingo, DJ sets, a pub quiz, and football games shown on the big screens. “There was also morning yoga, talks on whales and dolphins – and whale-spotting at certain times of year – as well as lighthouse watching, which took place along a specific part of the route that came close to the French coast, with a guide explaining them all,” says Nicholson. “It kind of felt like we went to France in a way. Given that everyone was speaking French on board – plus, in the cafe, we had one of the best croque monsieurs I’ve ever eaten.” The ship also had a more formal restaurant serving a mix of “beautifully plated” Mediterranean dishes, from gazpacho with fresh crusty bread, Iberico ham and padron peppers, to Greek stifado stew and rack of lamb. After two relaxing nights on board they arrived quayside in Spain at 8am, refreshed and ready for their road trip. “The whole thing was so smooth. We got in the car and we were out and into the sunshine in maybe 15 minutes,” she says. “On the first day we drove straight down to Seville, because we wanted to get there for the Easter festival. I think if we’d flown, there’s no way we would have been up for getting into a car for eight hours,” says Nicholson. “We arrived in the city for the hottest April on record. It was pretty full-on, but amazing to be there and soak it all in.” After the bustle of Seville, it was on to Frigiliana, a small inland village with just a few cobbled streets of whitewashed buildings with blue and green shutters. The clear sparkling waters around Nerja were only 10 minutes by car for a day at the beach. Then it was on to Valencia for football at Spain’s oldest stadium, Estadio De Mestalla, and sampling local produce at the food markets, from fresh seafood and charcuterie, to sweet Valencia oranges, juiced to order. They stayed in Valencia’s buzzy neighbourhood of El Carmen, home to historic architecture, a thriving street art scene, and independent shops and restaurants serving a variety of cuisines. “We actually had Nepalese curry one evening. Valencia has a more multicultural dynamic so we stepped outside the Spanish food culture and tapped into the rest of what the city had to offer,” says Nicholson. https://www.theguardian.com/ferries-for-hassle-free-holidays/2023/jun/27/next-stop-spain-how-to-start-your-european-road-trip-on-the-sea
  10. A masked doctor leans down into a black plastic body bag, and gently mani[CENSORED]tes the legs of the man inside. "First we determine age, sex and length," he explains. "He's in the putrefaction stage now, because of the water." In a hospital car park in the eastern Libyan city of Derna, the final details of one of its many victims are being carefully checked and logged. This is now one of the most vital jobs here, and one of the most distressing. The man is unrecognisable after spending a week in the sea. His body washed ashore that morning. Expert hands gently probe, looking for identifying marks and taking a DNA swab. That's important, in case there's a family still alive to claim him. More than 10,000 people remain officially missing, according to figures from the UN's Office for the Co-Ordination of Humanitarian Affairs. The Red Crescent has been issuing its own numbers. The UN says the death toll so far stands at some 11,300. The final total remains unclear - although the one thing that is certain is the sheer scale of this catastrophe. Mohammed Miftah knows in his heart his family are among the victims. When he went to find his sister and her husband at their home after the floods, it had been washed away. He's heard nothing from them since. He shows me a video he took as the torrent rose, brown water pouring in through his front door. A car is carried on the current and wedges into the open space, blocking it completely. "I saw cars coming down and I came out running," he recalls. "I thought that was it, that I was going to die. We could see our neighbours waving flashlights. In just a few moments, the lights went out, and they had disappeared. "That was the hardest thing." As international aid begins to arrive in earnest, the Health Minister of Libya's eastern government has announced that four Greek rescue workers were killed in an accident on the road to Derna. Fifteen more were injured. They were on their way to join teams already on the ground from France and Italy. Kuwait and Saudi Arabia have also flown in tons of extra supplies. The next step is making sure they're used properly and fairly. Abdullah Bathily, the Head of the UN's International Support Mission in Libya, told BBC Arabic the country now needs to create a transparent mechanism to manage all of its international donations. It's a concern borne from the well-known challenges of coordinating between the government in Tripoli which is internationally recognised, and the eastern Libyan government, which isn't. Back in the centre of Derna there are some points of light amid the mud and debris that has enveloped this city. On one street corner, hundreds of colourful clothes lie scattered in piles. Across the road a huge queue forms as fuel is handed out to survivors. As the donations keep coming, one man arrives and places a box of warm scarves at the feet of an elderly woman. He kisses her head tenderly, as she smiles and begins to choose one. These are Libyans helping Libyans in one of their worst moments of crisis. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-66838559

  13. A major Xbox leak has revealed the existence of a mid-gen refresh for Microsoft’s newest console and this probably means Sony at least has a design document for a new PlayStation 5 refresh lying around its offices somewhere. Despite seeming like the latest generation of gaming just arrived thanks to the time-warping effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and unprecedented console shortages, we’re already three years into the life of the PS5. Think back to the PlayStation 4 where the base model was released in 2013 and, three years later, both a PS4 Slim and a PS4 Pro were announced in 2016. This means we’re about due for some new PlayStations. Rumor on the street is that Sony is indeed readying some kind of PS5 Slim model, one with a detachable disc drive that could retail separately. And so far there are no real credible reports for what a PS5 Pro could entail. That said, here’s what I’d like to see for a mid-cycle PS5. Do you remember every mainline PlayStation console? Bring On Modular Consoles The one big rumor around the PS5 Slim, or whatever it ends up being called, is that the disc drive will not be included with the system. Instead, it will be sold separately and connected if needed. While the idea of buying a digital-only console to replace my disc-based system is a non-starter for me, I love the idea of modular hardware, whether it’s game consoles, phones, laptops, whatever! And I’m not just talking about boring stuff like batteries and disc drives. I want Sony to create some bonkers attachments for the PS5 Slim. Maybe custom stands to display official collector’s edition figures like the upcoming 19-inches of Venom statue in Spider-Man 2. Or, a screen projector to turn your PS5 into a device you can set up anywhere to game from. Are these unrealistic ideas? Sure, but unlike Xbox, there hasn’t been a major Sony leak for us to analyze so as far as I’m concerned the only thing holding back Sony from creating the ultimate, impractical, modular game system is their imagination. Slimmer, but Not Boring Here’s my big fear with any PlayStation 5 Slim – that Sony decides to make it boring. I love that my PS5 looks like something you might accidentally buy from Ikea. The curved, white face plates and aggressive, almost obnoxious size make it feel like an actual, premium sculpture that just happens to play games. Comments from friends and on the internet hint that some may wait for a Slim model, when Sony relents and creates a console in a more practical form factor. Cowards. The worst possible outcome would be a plain, white square of a system, and historically Sony’s slim models have always been the more boring of the two systems. The only exception that comes to mind is the PS3 Slim, which reigned in the excess of its base predecessor in a delightfully elegant console (let’s not talk about the PS3 Super Slim). But for every PS3 Slim there’s something like the PS4 Slim, which literally just lopped off a layer off the top of the PS4 Pro and called it a day Going by past PlayStation Slim designs, Sony typically saves space by removing some aesthetic elements of the current version of the console. And if that’s the case I imagine a smaller version of the PS5 will probably do away with the face plates that flare out, currently preventing you from putting it into one of the regular-sized (read: lame) partitions in your media center. Here’s another idea: Sony should make it smaller overall, but let you customize it in more ways. Imagine if it was a cube – I mean, Nintendo already proved it was the most perfect shape for a console – but with face plates on all sides, to mix and match colors and designs. If they’re already going modular for the hardware, it’s only fair to make it more customizable. No? Fine, enjoy your smaller console that can fit into tighter spaces. What About a Pro? A slim upgrade is not really for existing PS5 owners, it’s for the folks who didn’t buy the console the first time around and convince them to give the hardware a shot now that it’s smaller and maybe even a little bit cheaper. But what about a Pro? Sony and Xbox both introduced hardware upgrades last generation with the Xbox One X and the PlayStation 4 Pro, which offered 4K gaming (to varying degrees), a pretty notable enhancement that is now standard with the current-gen consoles. Was 4K gaming necessary in 2016? Yes and no, as the advent of 4K TVs caught console-makers by surprise I think. But for everyone else 4K was not a killer feature and that’s sort of why I think pro upgrades are on the whole kind of useless. Improvements to ray-tracing, framerate, and even maybe 8K resolution could all be nice to have down the line, but with 8K TVs retailing at 2,000 USD for the foreseeable future, the 8K revolution will not be catching Sony and Microsoft on the backfoot this time. If there is a Pro PS5 version coming out, I hope folks enjoy it. But for now, my 4K, ray-tracing, SSD-powered console will simply have to do, I say with the heaviest of sighs. Ultimately, the console life cycle continues and whether we’re ready for it or not, new mid-gen refreshes are on the horizon. But so long as Sony is brave, I’m sure we’ll get the modular, bold, slim console of my — I mean, our — dreams.
  14. It's not just eleven players on the pitch that contribute to a club's success. To some on the outside, winning in football might come down to the eleven players on the pitch and the manager. But, on the inside, how a club is managed from a business perspective is the recipe for success, and it starts at the very top with a club's owner. It can quickly go wrong if they don't invest cash in the right areas to protect their assets. Mohammed Hamdi is the former Director General of the Dutch team ADO Den Haag. He has first-hand experience in making critical decisions that impact the success of a club. He explained to Football Now that the most crucial decision is to select the right manager. "The head coach is the focal point for the media. He is the person helping to get better results. And he is also an ambassador for the team. It means that the key decision is to get the right head coach, someone who fits the philosophy, vision and strategy of the club." Brighton & Hove Albion is a club known for its exceptional management style. The south-coast side were promoted to the Premier League for the first time in their history in 2017. They have continued on a steady incline since. Unlike many clubs that struggle for survival upon finally reaching the top flight, Brighton has soared under several managers. The 2023/2024 season sees them making their debut in European competition after beating four times Champions League winners Ajax in the Europa League in October. So, how do they do it? The management team at Brighton & Hove Albion have the ability to scout 'unpolished gems' in the transfer market. The club has made five of its most significant player sales in the previous five years. They signed unknown players at the time, developed their talent, and sold them on for a considerable profit. According to TalkSeagulls founder Ryan Adsett, this has been the key to Brighton's sustained success since its promotion six years ago. "If you've got a good team off the pitch as well as on it, and everyone is trying to do the best for the business, it's going to work." Ryan Adsett Founder, TalkSeagulls "I think that situation is definitely happening at Brighton. When we do lose a player, someone's ready to step up. When you accumulate this amount of money, and you've been putting that into the academy since 2014, you're going to reap the rewards in 2023." Not all fans are lucky enough to see their clubs managed as well as Brighton. In fact, it's more common for most fans to be unhappy with their club owners. There are several reasons for this, but in most cases, negligence with investments is responsible for big clubs being lower down the football pyramid than they would like to be. Take FC Schalke, for example; they are Germany's third biggest club in terms of fan members, only behind Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Just 12 years ago, they reached a Champions League semi-final. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, they regularly made it out of the group stages of that competition and finished in the top four of the Bundesliga in most seasons. Now, they occupy the 16th spot in the 18-team Bundesliga second division. Contrary to Brighton, it's poor management of player sales that has caused them to end up in a position their 122,000+ members never imagined they would. German football writer Chris Williams told Football Now that it's due to a combination of errors made on and off the pitch. "Schalke's fall from grace has been remarkable. Financially, they've got themselves into a bit of a mess. So many good players used to play there: Joel Matip, Max Mayer, Leon Goretzka, Alexander Nübel. That was a lot of potential income they could've made by selling those players, anywhere between €110 - €150 million. Instead, all of those players walked out of the door for free." So what would it take to restore Schalke back to its former glory? "They've recently brought in a new coach; their 12th since 2019. They're going to have to go back to doing what they do best, which is bring players through their academy structure. It isn't an overnight fix. They need to find a new identity and a type of football that will get them out of the second division, no matter how." These are two very contrasting case studies that show how decisions made off the pitch affect your results on it. Brighton & Hove Albion continues to go from strength to strength while the sad story of Schalke continues to decline.
  15. Sarah Chrisman changed her life completely with a corset from her husband on her 29th birthday. To delve deeper into women's fashion from the Victorian era, she was inspired by the corset and began dressing specifically in this way. Over time, he adapted not only his clothing style but also his entire lifestyle to the requirements of the 19th century and even wrote a book about it. Chrisman described her later life in her book, "Victorian Secrets: What a Corset Taught Me About the Past, Present, and Myself." Women have evolved from being treated as property to being CEO of companies and having control of what they get to say or do or even think. Before women had rights they were owned by their husbands and were taught to do all the house work, including taking care of her husband first then the children. He could have as many mistresses as he wanted, yet if she even dared to look at another man he would beat her in front of whoever. The Victorian Era was a harsh time for women because of the way they were treated. In this essay I covering the abuse they took as wives, sisters, daughters, and workers, the roles they played back then verses the roles they play now, and how my vocation of choice would be different…show more content… In Lee Jackson’s “Dictionary of Victorian London”, the subject of woman and their clothing from the 1800’s struck me as interesting. More specifically, pockets in women’s clothing. Funny enough, as Paris is considered the fashion capital in our modern world, it was considered the same in the Victorian age. And as it is today considered a luxury to have clothing made in Paris, it was then too. Only the finest clothing was made in Paris with the finest jewels and jewelry. “Single girls wore few jewels, and their dresses, although flounced and bulgy, were usually of simple material.” Usually, when a woman was wearing a poor amount of jewelry, this was how it was advertised they were single. Usually, when woman were wed, their husbands would try to dress them in the nicest clothing to prove how they could provide for their wives. A large staple in woman’s fashion consisted of crinolines which were petticoats made from stiff material. Alfred Rosling Bennett states that, “When ladies had to sit close, as in a train or bus, or pass through a narrow doorway, something had to bulge, and hoops perforce became oval”. The material was so stiff that when standing it created a perfect circle around a lady’s body. In this time period, Woman would be ostracized if they showed too much skin. Hence, woman were forced to wear these ridiculous outfits with absurd amounts of material. Although, the excessive amount of material did give them one advantage, pockets. Not only did the adult women have pockets but so did the young girls. It was a big deal that woman could have pockets. In the 1800’s, only men’s clothing had pockets which represented superiority, and woman’s clothing now having pockets was considered to be a societal upgrade. I found it surprising that something as simple as pockets that seems so insignificant, were of huge significance for women of the 1800’s. Researching Victorian London: The Telephone AUGUST 30, 2015 ~ WYNNEB1 ~ 2 COMMENTS During the Victorian Era, England experienced an influx of reformations and developments. It was a technological upbringing where communication was blossoming in new and phenomenal ways. “The Victorian Dictionary” by Lee Jackson supplied information on communications in the Victorian Era, particularly the telephone. Women who held jobs as telephone operators worked diligently under strategic rules and etiquette. It was a highly organized occupation. Women received explicit training while attending telephone school where they practiced the skills of answering calls and general communication. While supervised by an experienced operator, women learned how to operate tasks on dummy switchboards and plugs. The training was strategic and complex, the methods of which demonstrated the progressiveness of the Victorian Era. Whilst practicing with fellow operators, the attending supervisor corrected mistakes that were made during practice calls. Etiquette and decorum was required as a telephone operator. The females had to make physical accommodations to maintain in good health. A company called The Postal Department required each girl be examined by a female physician; her eyes were checked and her teeth were fixed to ensure their would be nothing restricting her from working. They were required to be at least 5 ft. 2 in, “extra lightweights [were] rejected” (Thompson par. 12). They wore graduate gown’s of dark material. A photograph of the Post Office Central Telephone Exchange depicts women communicating on telephones in their drab, dark gowns appearing identical in their disposition and appearance. The Victorian Era woman was expected to appear formal and quaint. In the workplace they were required to wear gloves to “maintain the contour and complexion of their busily worked fingers” (Thompson par. 4 ).

Costa said in a nationally televised address that "in these circumstances, obviously, I have presented my resignation to the president of the republic." Costa's surprise announcement came hours after Portuguese police arrested his chief of staff while raiding several public buildings and other properties as part of a widespread corruption probe. The Supreme Court, the state prosecutor's office said, was also examining the suspects' "use of the prime minister's name and his involvement to unlock" the practices being probed. The 62-year-old Costa, Portugal's Socialist leader since 2015, defended his innocence. "I totally trust the justice system," he said. Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa is expected to accept his resignation.
